Resumen

This article is a sociolinguistic study conducted in Amman and Karak (Jordan) to investigate the linguistic variation in the speech of 48 Karaki informants who are originally from Karak and now living in Amman, and another 48 Karaki informants who still live in Karak. The [ki] variant of the (Vki) variable will be used as a basis to investigate this variation. The study shows that the [ki] is still preserved by the old in Karak and in Amman. It also shows that it is used by the young in a higher percentage than it is in Karak. The exaggeration of the use of it by the young, in contexts where the use of it is not preferable, for example in the presence of other people who do not use it, shows a strong desire to appear as local. It is also an attempt by the young to associate themselves with an area, namely the Karak area, which is known to be socially and politically important in Jordan. Appearing as local is not an aim in itself. It helps to achieve social aims. However, young females do not show the same desire. It disappears from their speech. Appearing as local is not the first priority by them. The rate of using it by them in Karak was in a low percentage. It becomes even lower in Amman. So, it is not uncommon to find women leads in linguistic change and to be innovative in this.

Resumen
Self-efficacy in tourist destination can influence the tourists’ level of satisfaction which may depend on how much the destination has fulfilled their needs. This research aims at investigating the relationship between gender preference and self-efficacy in tourist destination in Karo regency. Female tourists are usually significantly different, in which male’s self-efficacy tend to be higher than female’s. This research used a qualitative and quantitative method to obtain the varieties of perception, such as accessibility, comfort, confidence, and safety. The result reveals self-efficacy isindeed different for local male and female visitors; however, the male and female tourists from abroad do not indicate significant difference. The level of self-efficacy (LSE) for females is not always lower than males and, even, the activities cannot limit the LSE for males and females. The tourists’ activities in the masculine category proved that the females’ SE is higher than males. However, the males’ SE proved to be higher than females are only found among local people; however, the tourists’s SE between males and females look the same. In the development of tourism which is based on the tourists’ SE, preference of gender does not need to be considered; however, if it is done on the basis locals’ SE, then the preference of gender is really needed.

Resumen
Karos Goodnight & Goodnight, 1944 is the most diverse genus of the family Stygnopsidae. It contains seven micro-endemic species from the Huasteca region in eastern Mexico. In this paper, the new species Karos morronei sp. nov. is described based on the morphology of adults of both sexes. The new species is from Zacualtipán de Ángeles, Hidalgo State, which represents the southernmost record for the genus. Additionally, a reanalysis of the previous morphological phylogeny of the genus using both parsimony and maximum likelihood methods is provided. According to the morphological reanalysis, K. morronei sp. nov. exhibits an autapomorphy (males with femur IV thicker than females) and is the sister group of the clade that includes K. barbarikos, K. hexasetosus, K. monjarazi, K. parvus and K. singularis. Finally, information of barcoding (CO1) is provided for this new species.

Resumen
Scabies is an infectious disease of the skin caused by Sarcoptes scabiei. In the current study, investigation of scabies epidemiology was accompanied by Peshawar and Karak districts to assess the prevalence and main risk factors accountable for the transmission of scabies. A survey was reported on scabies at DHQ Karak and HMC Peshawar from January 2019 to January 2020. Data was collected every month from HMC Peshawar and DHQ Karak. The total reported cases were 571 during study time. The report showed that the frequency of scabies was high during December and January. While lower in August and October. Infestation rates were more in males than females while children and teenagers (1-20 years) were more prone to this condition. The infection was considerably more common in males (51.1%) than females (49.9%), in lower socio-economic levels (52.0%) than the upper (16%) and middle levels (32%), and in those communities living in uncemented houses (70.7%) than living in cemented houses (29.3%). Family size was of no significance. The present result showed that hands and genitalia were affected more as compared to other body parts. About 24% of patients showed scabies infection at more than two sites. During the study general information about scabies was provided to all patients to give them an idea about the severity of infection. Biopsy was also performed but distortion of mite due to itching made it impossible to study its morphology. It is concluded from the present study that scabies infestation is characterized by parasites that cause itching and scratching sensation at night. The findings scabies prevalence is influenced by seasonal variations, demographic factors, socioeconomic status, and housing conditions, and understanding these factors is essential for developing efficient prevention and control strategies to alleviate the scabies burden in affected populations.

Resumen
Introduction. Jordan is one of the Middle Eastern countries that is classified as a poor water resource country. People in Jordan consume any available water. In the south of Jordan, water resources are limited. The drinking water contains high levels of fluoride, which in turn leads to augmented danger of both skeletal and dental fluorosis. Aims. This study is focused on evaluating the pervasiveness of dental fluorosis among patients of Karak City and assessing the degree and distribution of fluorosis. Materials and Methods. This research focuses on 2,512 patients ranging from 12 to 52 years old seeking dental treatment in the Dental Department at “Prince Ali ben Al Houssin Hospital” in Karak City. Dental fluorosis status was assessed by using Modified Dean’s Fluorosis Index.” The data collected were subjected to statistical analysis. Results. The dental fluorosis prevalence within our sample was 39.9% in Karak City. Females were more influenced than males, and fluorosis was detected more often in those who drank tap water and was more common in a very mild and localized form. Conclusion. Fluorosis necessitates constant observation, and future study in terms of the intake in Jordan is recommended in terms of all sources. It would not be too soon to note that the supply of drinking water needs to be changed in South Jordan.

Resumen
The study aims to discuss the vowel formant of the Karo and Simalungun languages. This study uses qualitative methods with the data described as numeric tables. In collecting data, the researcher involved three native speakers from both sides. The native speakers are three females from the Karo and Simalungun areas between 17 and 45 years old. The data was obtained by recording in a convenient location, and the syllables were naturally uttered. This study found that the Karo language has six vowels such as /a/, /i/, /u/, /e/, /ə/, and /ɔ/, and is similar to the Simalungun language except vowel /ə/. To compare the vowels, the researcher placed similar vowels to compare the form between both languages. The syllables's position, /a/, /i/, /u/, and /e/, is put at the beginning to make the syllable manageable, and the syllable /ɔ/ is placed at the end of the word. This study uses the software Praat to measure the vowel formant. Afterward, the data are calculated using the F1 and F2 from the spectrogram in Praat software. The results data shows that the highest formant in vowel /a/, /i/, /u/, and /e/ comes from KL, and the highest vowel /ɔ/ from SL.
