Texto completoThis study aims to investigate the consequences for feminist sex therapy that it is promoted as an alternative to a mainstream approach. Analytically I focus on the relation between normativity, claims to knowledge and professional legitimacy. I study sex therapeutic academic texts, and the material is approached through a framework developed by combining Donna Haraway’s concept of situated knowledges with elements from Karen Barad’s agential realism
My analysis starts in feminist sex therapists’ criticism of how masculine norms in mainstream sex therapy lead to a flawed theory of sexual matters. Feminist sex therapists, however, allege that it is specifically feminist norms that grant a more complete theory of sex and sexual problems within feminist alternatives in sex therapy. To that effect, feminists discern sexual problems in relation to the impact a patriarchal society has on particularly women’s sexualities, and treatment is articulated as seeking to liberate women from constraints associated with gendered social positions.
In mainstream sex therapy, allegedly value-neutral insights into human physiology are called upon for the establishment of professional legitimacy. Nevertheless, normative investments are relied upon implicitly to discern sexual problems and sexual well-being with the consequence that sexual problems are understood as conditions that interfere with the ability to have sex, largely equated with coitus, and with the motivation to form coupled sexual relations. By alleviating sexual problems, these abilities and motivations are allegedly restored in the form of natural, already present, capacities for sexual functioning. Comparing my analysis to feminist critiques, I argue that the latter have not fully theorized the significance of normative investments, and have left unchallenged assumptions in mainstream therapy that enable a restorative and liberationist construal of sex therapy’s objective.
Although feminist alternatives contain a markedly different theorization of sexual problems, they have retained, from the mainstream approach, the notion that sex therapy seeks to liberate its clients. This notion stands in conflict with feminist theorizations of sexual problems, and in my conclusion I argue that feminist sex therapy would benefit from abandoning its liberationist element.

Neste ponto, a Teologia Feminista contribuiu solidamente.
This research is based on the application of Music Therapy to treat the emotional damage resulting from domestic violence, based on theories, concepts and methods of Feminist Theology. The opening sentence of the title Deconstructing Amelia was inspired by the song of the same name, composed by Pitty and Martin (2008). Many women who have suffered domestic violence go through this process of deconstructing their Amelias interiors, then to rise again as free women, selfconfident, independent, strong and empowered in all her femininity to be just women, without any label or stereotype. To account for the proposed theme for this dissertation was made a bibliographical research and social research. In terms of methodology, the research can be defined as an action research of a qualitative nature, approved by the Ethics Committee of the Colleges EST, as required by resolution 196/96 of the National Health Council. Its main objective was to investigate how Music Therapy and Feminist Theology can reframe the emotional damage resulting from domestic violence. Specifically, we sought to investigate the extent to which funds Music Therapy are effective to minimize or cure depression and anxiety states of women in situations of domestic violence, as well as investigate the extent to which Music Therapy can be applied to raise self-esteem and fostering the autonomy and re-socialization of the target population of this research. Finally, we sought to understand the religious discourse and its relation to the behavior of women who experienced domestic violence. It was found that Music Therapy can be an effective tool to treat the emotional damage in women due to domestic violence. The particularity of music as nonverbal language assists a lot in the process, because the trauma in an unconscious way. However, to make use of Music Therapy as a tool for emotional rehabilitation of women who have experienced domestic violence, you should always be with a look directed to gender issues, making it a Music Therapy with feminist perspectives. At this point, Feminist Theology contributed solidly. It was also concluded that participants who receive spiritual advice obtained only negative or omission of his Church, had worse outcomes than participants who received support from their spiritual leaders or just did not look for any Church.

Texto completoENGLISH ABSTRACT: The transition to motherhood represents a critical period in a woman's life. It presents the mother with the opportunity for personal development, while simultaneously rendering her vulnerable to psychological problems. The South African low-income mother faces additional challenges in having to contend with a host of poverty-related stressors. The mother's at-risk status extends to her infant, who depends on her for the fulfilment of its needs. Current mental health policy does not consider the special needs of mother-infant dyads, despite its orientation to prevention. The current paper seeks to explore the potential of group therapy with low-income mother-infant dyads. It outlines the possible theoretical underpinnings for psychotherapeutic group work with low-income mothers and infants, by making use of attachment theory, feminist theory and community psychology. It reviews the theories' individual contributions and explores their compatibility in considering group therapy with low-income mother-infant dyads. Further, it reviews empirical studies and interventions with mother-infant dyads, with a particular emphasis on group therapy interventions. It argues that group therapy may be a viable and effective approach to psychological work with low-income mother-infant dyads.

Proper assessment of the pelvic floor muscles is essential for the correct pelvic floor dysfunctions treatment. However, currently there is not a method considered as the gold standard assessment. Therefore, this thesis aimed to evaluate the reliability of different methods to normalize pelvic floor muscles electromyography (EMG) and the determination of the correlation among vaginal palpation, vaginal squeeze pressure, EMG and ultrasonographic variables of female pelvic floor muscles. For the first aim, we evaluated 30 women aged (23,9 ±3,2 years), nulliparous, with no reports of pelvic floor dysfunction. For EMG normalization, signals were acquired during four different tasks were performed with the vaginal probe in situ: pelvic floor maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) and three daily activities with increased intra-abdominal pressure (coughing, Valsalva maneuver and abdominal contraction). The results showed that the normalization of pelvic floor muscles EMG by either peak RMS of pelvic floor MVC or mean and peak RMS of abdominal contraction has excellent reliability. To analyze the correlation between the different methods of pelvic floor evaluation we evaluated 80 women and it was carried out the digital palpation, perineometry, EMG and ultrasound. It was observed that there is a positive strong correlation between digital palpation and vaginal pressure, besides positive moderate correlation between the function and vaginal pressure contraction and RMS normalized by abdominal contraction (0.59 and 0.63, respectively), and between movement of bladder neck in relation of pubic symphysis (0.51 and 0.60, respectively). In conclusion, the results demonstrated that the normalization of pelvic floor muscles EMG by the mean and peak RMS of abdominal contraction and by the peak RMS of pelvic floor MVC should be indicated in studies involving EMG evaluation of pelvic floor muscles in young, nulliparous and free from pelvic floor dysfunction women. In addition, the moderate to weak correlation between the evaluation methods indicates that using more than one method can be positive in the assessment of pelvic floor muscles.
