Resumen

The study was carried out on 25–34-year-old, British-born, married women, living on a south-east London housing estate. The reported early and current family relationships of 50 depressed and 40 non-depressed women were compared. Significantly more of the depressed women reported a poor early relationship with their mothers, but not with their fathers. This finding was confirmed by corresponding low care and high overprotection scores (for mothers only) on the Parental Bonding Instrument. On the basis of what the women and their husbands said, the marriages of the depressed women were rated as much poorer. This was confirmed by the women's and their husbands' scores on a Partner Rating Questionnaire and the Ryle–Scott-Heyes Marital Patterns Questionnaire. The depressed women reported a poorer current relationship with their mothers and a much poorer relationship with their husbands' mothers and fathers. Significantly more depressed women reported four or more poor family relationships.

Resumen

This paper proposes that remarried families who have a higher level of family ritual observance will also have a higher level of family functioning. This hypothesis was tested in a study involving 60 individuals comprising 30 couples remarried over two years, and with a stepchild under 13 years of age. Each partner responded to a questionnaire composed of family functioning measures (FACES Ill-Adaptability and Cohesion subscales, Family Satisfaction Scale, Quality Marriage Index) family ritual measures (Family Traditions Index, Family Celebrations Scale, Family Time and Routines Index), and demographic information. Data was examined using Correlation, Analysis of Variance, and Regression analysis. Results indicate that women experiencing a higher level of family routines also experience greater family satisfaction. Additionally, women who had counselling in the remarried family, report greater marital quality, and women who work outside the home report a higher level of adaptability. For men, a higher level of cohesion and family celebrations were found for men where the remarried family includes a child from the current marriage. These results suggest that awareness of family rituals present in remarried families and the effect of particular demographic variables can be useful information for both family therapists and the families themselves. Resumen

Problem: Family firms often comprise of a complex web of relationships between family and non-family managers that are active within the business. Family enterprises are also known for their closed communication and decision-making practices. It often occurs that families do not include non-family managers into important business-related discussions and do not consult their decisions with managers from outside of the family. At the same time, research in the area of family business defines that the relationships between family and non-family managers are highly linked to the success of a business. With these considerations in mind, this study investigates how family and non-family managers communicate in family businesses. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to create an understanding of the phenomenon of communication and information-sharing between family and non-family managers in small and medium-sized family firms in Sweden. In particular, we are investigating the distinctive characteristics of communication, the barriers to effective communication, and what business-related information that is not shared between family and non-family managers. Method: This study is conducted qualitatively, utilising multiple case studies. For the collection of empirical data, we conducted twelve semi-structured interviews with both family and non-family managers in three small and medium-sized family companies located in Sweden. Findings: Our findings show that there are multiple distinctive characteristics of communication in family firms. Additionally, we uncovered several groups of barriers that hinder effective communication between family and non-family managers in family companies. Additionally, we found out that there is numerous business-related information that is not shared between family and non-family managers. Contributions: Our findings contribute to the managerial and theoretical understanding of communication and information-sharing between family and non-family managers in family businesses. This thesis is of interest to any individual working in or with family companies, as well as, academics, who investigate the field of family business.

Resumen

The thesis consists of two volumes. Volume 1 comprises three chapters. The first, a systematic literature review of how positive relationships within families can support individuals experiencing psychosis. The second is a qualitative study investigating how families with one member with a first episode of psychosis have experienced their roles and relationships. The third chapter comprises a public domain briefing document which provides a plain language summary of the literature review and empirical paper. Volume 2 presents five Clinical Practice Reports (CPR). The first details a woman with a moderate learning disability who was experiencing anxiety, formulated from two psychological perspectives. The second is an evaluation of challenging behaviour guidelines for staff working in residential homes. The third report is an experimental design investigating the effectiveness of “Attentional Training” for a gentleman with health anxiety. The fourth report documents a case study of intervention with a male experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder. The fifth CPR is an abstract of a case presentation of a neuropsychological assessment of a young girl with a hypoxic-ischemic brain injury.

Resumen

The purpose of the study was to qualitatively investigate love in religious family relationships. Participants were from the American Families of Faith Project, a qualitative study on religion and family life with participants from 198 Christian, Jewish, and Muslim families (N = 478) across the United States. The primary research questions of present study were (a) what does love mean for families? (b) why do individuals and couples in families love? (c) how is love experienced? (d) what are the related processes of love? (e) how does religion influence love in religious families? and (f) what are the reported outcomes of love for individuals and families? Interview data was analyzed through a three-phase approach: feasibility study, codebook development, and grounded theory coding. The first phase conducted by two coders, excluding the author, concluded that there was sufficient data to conduct further analysis. The second phase was conducted by four coders, excluding the author and the two previous coders, who developed a codebook and organized data into four relational domains (marital, parental, children’s, and divine) and six categories, which were based on the research questions (meaning, motivation, process, experience, influence, and outcome). In the third phase, the author analyzed the intersections between domains and categories through matrix coding and numeric content analysis. Then, using modified grounded theory approaches, themes were developed and presented as findings with illustrative participant quotations. Finally, findings, limitations, future directions, and implications for therapists and educators were discussed.

The non-victimized siblings in incestuous families have often been ignored in research, literature, and treatment. This study explored these siblings' 1) relationship to the victim, 2) attribution of blame, and 3) adjustment. Participants were 30 non-victimized siblings of incest victims, between the ages of 8 and 14. They completed the Sibling Relationship Questionnaire, the Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale, the Self-perception Profile for Children, the Children's Depression Inventory, and a questionnaire developed for this research. Participants' scores were compared with the normative sample scores on several measures. Siblings perceived little warmth and closeness in their relationships to their victimized sisters. Rivalry and conflict were within normal limits. Siblings blamed victims and other family members less than expected, with the greatest amount of blame attributed to perpetrators. Adjustment was impaired. Males demonstrated less athletic competence, less global self-worth, more worry and oversensitivity than normative samples. Females showed a tendency toward less global self-worth and heightened general anxiety. Siblings' overall level of emotional distress was higher than most of the normative samples.

Resumen

This study is an analysis of the social construction of lesbian and gay identities within the immediate family. The analysis draws on the insights obtained from in-depth interviews conducted with 39 individual lesbian and gay respondents and 22 parents. The thesis is organised into six chapters. In Chapter 1, I review past work on lesbian and gay identity formation and the disclosure of a lesbian or gay identity to members of the family. I argue that past research on lesbian and gay identity formation has not paid sufficient attention to the influence of the family on sexual identity construction. I also argue that past research on lesbians and gays and the family has only focused on initial disclosure of sexual identity to parents. I suggest that we can proceed beyond these limitations by examining the social construction of lesbian and gay identities in the family by focusing on two research themes: the internal theme which explores individual sexual identity formation, coming out to parents and developments in familial relations from initial disclosure to the present; and the external theme which examines lesbian and gays experiences beyond the family, for instance, the lesbian and gay communities and work. It also considers how lesbian and gay involvement beyond the family affects parents. The research is then related to a broad theoretical framework concerning the construction and negotiation of identities in postmodernity. The methodology for the research is explored in Chapter 2. I review etiological and structural approaches to lesbians and gays and the family and argue that if we are to consider sexual identity and family relationships, then it is best achieved through a qualitative approach based on grounded theory. This approach would focus on meaning, interaction and the negotiation of relationships between lesbians and gays and their families. The design and uses of the research tools, the sampling procedure, the pilot and main studies and data analysis are also outlined. The findings of the research are reported in Chapters 3,4 and 5. Chapters 3 and 4 examine the internal theme of the research. Chapter 5 explores the external theme. Finally, three conceptual themes are identified in Chapter 6, based on the findings reported throughout the thesis. This is consistent with the grounded theory approach, which seeks to theorise on the basis of empirical data. Firstly, I suggest that individuals are active strategists in the production of postmodern identities; secondly, family relations are constructed through discourse and social practices; lastly, familial and sexual identities and relationships are constructed in wider contexts beyond the family. The chapter ends by attempting to make some recommendations for further research.

Resumen

The purpose of this qualitative research is to provide an in-depth exploration of the impact that a diagnosis of a terminal illness has on family functioning. The goal is to gain insight into adult children's personal experience when a parent is diagnosed with a terminal form of cancer. This study explores how families respond, adapt and cope when this specific family member is diagnosed with a terminal illness. It also explores any significant changes in relationships within the family and any shifts in the roles of the members and how they adjusted to such shifts. The study is informed by a phenomenological paradigm and used an explorative, qualitative design, which included semi-structured interviews. Participant text and "found poetry" is used in order to present a more accurate account of the participants' experiences. Found poetry provides an opportunity to hear the participant's voices by taking direct quotes from their transcripts and forming them into a poem. Themes of denial, anger, helplessness, hope and anticipatory grief/mourning are portrayed in the findings of this study. The difficult emotional dilemmas and tensions that people have to work through when faced with a family member dying are discussed. The realization of the loss of future relationships will be identified as one of the greatest impacts of the illness. This study shows the lack of professional supports and resources that are available for each participant's family in being faced with the diagnosis of a terminal illness, and will address a needed consideration for social work practice.

Resumen

The most beautiful, but also the most complicated period in a person�s life is adolescence, because at this age, a series of transformations take place, making the transition from childhood to adulthood. Most teenagers, if they do not have the right guidance in life, can get lost in the thicket of emancipatory opportunities of today�s world, which give them the illusion of freedom, independence and personal autonomy in all aspects of life. A decisive role for the adolescent�s integrative education has always been played by the family, which prepares him to face all the challenges of this world. In contemporary society, we are witnessing to an increasing degree a reversal of the values and principles of a healthy life, whose reality and benefits are proven both by the humanities and medical sciences, but also by the spiritual experiences of man. In the secular world, it is observed that teenagers are encouraged to view their relationship with their parents on an equal footing, in other words, the parents are seen as �friends� and the word �parent� is not used anymore. Specialists in psychopedagogy draw attention to the fact that such an approach creates a vacuum in intrafamily relationships, a confusion with major implications in the life of the teenager, who can slide down the wrong path in life and get lost, because no entourage will be able to take the place of their mother and father or provide them with parental safety, love and understanding. In this study, we used experiential methods, such as case study, making a comparative analysis of the ways of approach in the relationship between parents and adolescents.

Resumen

Named Entity Recognition problem’s objective is to automatically identify and classify entities like persons, places,organizations, and so forth. That is an area in Natural Language Processing and Information Extraction. NamedEntity Recognition is important because it is a fundamental step of preprocessing for several applications like relationextraction. However, it is a hard problem to solve as several categories of named entities are written similarly andthey appear in similar contexts. To accomplish it, we can use some hybrid approaches. Nevertheless, in this presentstudy, we use linguistic flavor by applying Local Grammar and Cascade of Transducers. Local Grammars are used torepresent the rules of a particular linguistic structure. They are often built manually to describe the entities we aimto recognize. In our study, we adapted a Local Grammar to improve the Recognition of Named Entities. The resultsshow an improvement of up to 7% on the F-measure metric in relation to the previous Local Grammar. Also, we builtanother Local Grammar to recognize family relationships from the improved Local Grammar. We present a practicalapplication for the extracted relationships using Prolog.

Феномен денег изучается с древнейших времен. Многие мыслители рассматривали деньги в своих трудах. Георг Зиммель в своей работе детально разобрал значение денег и связал его с системой ценностей, позже его мысли продолжил Серж Московичи. В отношениях человека с другими людьми происходит обмен ценностями, приходится чем-то жертвовать и получать что-то взамен. В процессе эволюции возникает такой инструмент, как деньги. Постепенно они превратились из монет в пластиковые карты и виртуальные средства. Деньги стали некоей субстанцией, способной материализовать любые наши желания. В современном обществе СМИ внушают человеку искусственные потребности. В погоне за новыми объектами желаний человек зацикливается на жажде денег. Городская среда обезличивает человека, он теряет свою индивидуальность. Деньги для него становятся самоцелью. В семейных отношениях деньги – это одна из самых распространенных причин конфликтов. Невидимые денежные связи тянутся между родителями и детьми. Молодожены тратят деньги, опираясь на опыт своих родителей, традиции и обычаи. Многие браки распадаются ввиду отсутствия взаимопонимания, из-за различий во взглядах на то, каким должен быть семейный бюджет. В обществе боятся затрагивать тему денег, существует определенное табу. У каждого из членов семьи может быть свое 131 мнение по поводу справедливого распределения финансов. Деньги могут быть как причиной проблем, так и средством их решения. Деньгами можно возместить причиненный моральный или физический вред, компенсировать недостаток своего внимания. С помощью денег человек может проявлять свою любовь к другим членам семьи. Деньги – это энергия, которая пронизывает все семейные отношения и является одним из главных инструментов их регулирования.

The Canadian Research Institute for Law and the Family began a study of perceptions of polyamory in Canada in June 2016. The project is only midway through its course, but the data collected so far have important implications for law and policy in the coming decades, as the meaning of family continues to evolve. The term polyamory is a mash-up of the Greek word for much or many and the Latin word for love. As these roots suggest, people who are polyamorous are, or prefer to be, involved in more than one intimate relationship at a time. Some polyamorists are involved in stable, long-term, loving relationships involving two or more other people. Others are simultaneously engaged in a number of relationships of varying degrees of permanence and commitment. Still others are involved in a web of concurrent relationships ranging from short-term relationships that are purely sexual in nature to more enduring relationships characterized by deep emotional attachments. Polyamory The practice or condition of participating in more than one intimate relationship at a time. It is usually not related to religion and it is unrelated to marriage. Polygamy The practice or condition of having more than one spouse, typically a wife, at one time, usually for religious reasons.

Resumen

Over the past half-century, fatherhood in Canada has evolved dramatically as men across the country adapt and react to social, economic, cultural and environmental contexts. Throughout this period, men have had diverse employment experiences as they manage their multiple roles inside and outside the family home. These experiences have been impacted by a variety of factors, including (but not limited to) cultural norms and expectations, family status, disability and a variety of demographic characteristics, as well as women’s increased involvement in the paid labour force. While many fathers in previous generations acted exclusively as “traditional” breadwinning father figures, modern fathers are increasingly likely to embrace caring roles and assume more household management responsibilities. In doing so, dads across Canada are renegotiating and reshaping the relationship between fatherhood and work.

Review question / Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to find the quality of life among family caregivers of children with disabilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Condition being studied: Quality of life is a broad-ranging concept affected in a complex way by the person’s physical health, psychological state, level of independence, social relationships, personal beliefs, and their relationship to salient features of their environment. A family caregiver is an unpaid individual who assists in caring for disabled children in activities of daily living, transfers, etc., and also aids in regular follow ups with doctors and rehabilitation professionals. These type of efforts affects the physical health, psychological state, and social relationships of caregivers, thereby reducing the quality of life of the family caregivers. Families in Saudi Arabia are family oriented, committed to family commitments, and respect family values; therefore, family members involve in caring for disabled children.

When workplaces and schools closed in March 2020 to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, family life across Canada was profoundly affected. These unique circumstances increased pressure on couples, many of whom found themselves together 24/7 – sometimes with children – while quickly adapting their homes into shared workspaces and/or learning environments. In addition to ongoing uncertainties and anxieties related to the coronavirus itself, these sudden and major adjustments in work and family life led some to wonder whether the impacts of COVID-19 might lead to increased rates of separation and divorce. Millions of families stayed at home for weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For many parents of school-aged children, this meant homeschooling their children while also working from home, with everyone sharing resources (e.g. desk space, Internet bandwidth). For others, it meant facing unemployment and/or reduced income while spending far more time than usual with their partner or spouse. Among heterosexual couples, inequality in gender roles within the household could also be magnified in a context where they are spending more time together: conflicts over the distribution of paid and unpaid work could thereby arise, particularly for those homeschooling children while continuing paid work from home.
