Resumen
Objective There is growing recognition among health care providers and policy makers that when things go wrong, the patient or their families should be heard and participate in the incident investigation process. This paper explores how Dutch hospitals organize patient or family engagement in incident investigations, maps out incident investigators’ experiences of involving patients or their families in incident investigations and identifies the challenges encountered. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted with managers and incident investigators in 13 Dutch hospitals. Study participants (n = 18) were asked about the incident investigation routines and their experiences of involving affected patients or family members. Interview transcripts were coded and analysed using thematic content analysis. Results Our findings reveal that patient or family involvement in incident investigations is typically organized as a one-time interview event. Interviews with patients or their families were considered to be valuable and important in their own right and seen as a way to do justice to the individual needs of the patient or their family. Yet, the usefulness and validity of the patient or family perspective for incident investigations was often seen to be limited, with the professional perspective afforded more weight. This was particularly the case when the patient or their family were unable to provide verifiable details of the incident under investigation. Study participants described challenges when involving patients or family members, including in relation to the available timeframe for incident investigations, legal issues, managing trust and working with intense emotions. Conclusions We propose that by placing patient and family criteria of significance at the centre of incident investigations (i.e. an ‘emic’ research approach), hospitals may be able to expand their learning potential and improve patient-centeredness following an incident.

Resumen
Currently, there are more patterns of human behavior that are not in accordance with the norms that apply in society, so that many criminal acts occur, one of which is sexual violence against children by their immediate family. One of these cases occurred in the jurisdiction of the Polresta Padang. The problems discussed are regarding the implementation of investigations carried out by Polresta Padang investigators in handling cases of sexual violence in the family sphere, the obstacles faced by investigators in cases of sexual violence in the family sphere, and investigators' efforts to overcome the obstacles faced in cases of sexual violence in the family sphere. . This research uses an empirical juridical approach. The results of the research show that the implementation of the investigation process for perpetrators of criminal acts of sexual violence in the family sphere was carried out in stages, namely receiving reports, carrying out investigations, making arrests, summoning witnesses, making detentions, making confiscations, carrying out examinations of suspects and witnesses, and making requests for Visum Et. Repertum until the investigation is completed and submitted to the prosecutor's office. The obstacles faced during the investigation process were that it was difficult to obtain information, there were no witnesses who saw it directly, and the perpetrator ran away. Then the efforts made by investigators to overcome these obstacles were to ask for help from social workers from the Social Service to accompany the victim during the investigation process

Resumen
Abstract Patient and family involvement is high on the international quality and safety agenda. In this paper, we consider possible ways of involving families in investigations of fatal adverse events and how their greater participation might improve the quality of investigations. The aim is to increase awareness among healthcare professionals, accident investigators, policymakers and researchers and examine how research and practice can develop in this emerging field. In contrast to relying mainly on documentation and staff recollections, family involvement can result in the investigation having access to richer information, a more holistic picture of the event and new perspectives on who was involved and can positively contribute to the family’s emotional satisfaction and perception of justice being done. There is limited guidance and research on how to constitute effective involvement. There is a need for co-designing the investigation process, explicitly agreeing the family’s level of involvement, supporting and preparing the family, providing easily accessible user-friendly language and using different methods of involvement (e.g. individual interviews, focus group interviews and questionnaires), depending on the family’s needs.

Resumen
Abstract As a basic notion in algebra, closure operations have been successfully applied to many fields of computer science. In this paper we study dense family in the closure operations. In particular, we prove some families to be dense in any closure operation, in which the greatest and smallest dense families, including the collection of the whole closed sets and the minimal generator of the closed sets, are also pointed out. More important, a necessary and sufficient condition for an arbitrary family to be dense is provided in our paper. Then we use these dense families to characterize minimal keys of the closure operation under the viewpoint of transversal hypergraphs and construct an algorithm for determining the minimal keys of a closure operation.

Resumen
Schizophrenia is a severe and chronic disorder in many cases. The illness can impact on the whole family. Family interventions are a psychosocial treatment for schizophrenia. A robust evidence base has developed supporting the use of family interventions, as reduced relapse and other clinical benefits can be produced. The majority of service users in forensic services suffer from schizophrenia. Yet little is known about the need, acceptability or feasibility of family intervention in forensic services. The over-arching goal of this programme of research was to review the literature for family intervention and conduct a comprehensive needs assessment, with a final aim to resolve the barriers of implementation of family intervention within forensic services. Meta-analysis indicated that the efficacy of family interventions resulted in positive outcomes in reduced relapse and psychotic symptoms, and improved knowledge and relationships. Family interventions were found to be applicable to the psychological needs of forensic service users. Problems were identified with staff training and supervision on forensic wards, with few wards providing family intervention as part of treatment for schizophrenia. Relatives of forensic service users expressed a need for family intervention. Staff highlighted that the barriers to family intervention were associated with insufficient time, poor support, lack of training, deficient information sharing, and geographic limitations between family homes and the forensic units. Staff offered solutions to implementing family intervention that related to revised policy and improved supervision. Relatives and staff held positive attitudes toward family intervention with open-minded attitudes towards the use of a web camera to facilitate family intervention in forensic services (e-FFI). The fourteen week web based family intervention (e-FFI) feasibility study generated reduced levels of stress, stigma and expressed emotion with improvements in the family’s knowledge of schizophrenia, personal health and an acceptance of forensic services. E-FFI was administered with ease achieving positive feedback from the family and the forensic service.

Resumen
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 171-184).
Affected members of the family investigated in this dissertation presented with photosensitivity and raised red cell protoporphyrin concentrations, indicative of protoporphyria. Further examination of this family revealed features that were atypical of erythropoietic protoporphyria. These included a highly penetrant disease, disease severity as expressed by more prevalent hepatic complications, a preponderance of protoporphyrin in its zinc chelated form, a therapeutic response to iron supplementation, and an absence of mutations in the ferrochelatase gene or haplotype markers associated with erythropoietic protoporphyria. We have reviewed clinical data from this family, established a ferrochelatase enzyme assay in our laboratory, and shown normal ferrochelatase enzyme activity in affected subjects.

Lawton, J. C. "Investigation of the cir multi-gene family of Plasmodium chabaudi". Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2012. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/1338585/.

Texto completo
Resumen
The pir genes comprise the largest multi-gene family in Plasmodium, with members found in P. vivax, P. knowlesi and rodent malaria species. Despite their almost universal presence, little is known about the functions of the PIR proteins. To investigate the role PIR proteins play during the erythrocytic stages of infection, the P. chabaudi model was chosen, where this gene family is termed cir. 198 cir genes were identified in the P. chabaudi genome, 86% of which clustered to form two major sub-families on the basis of sequence similarity. Quantitative RT-PCR and Illumina RNA sequencing were used to investigate cir transcription during P. chabaudi infection. Both methods detected many cir genes transcribed at low levels, as shown previously for other pirs. Three of the transcribed cir genes were selected for recombinant protein expression in the yeast Pichia pastoris: PCHAS_000100, PCHAS_070130 and PCHAS_040110. Soluble PCHAS_000100 was used for measurements of CIR secondary structure. Conserved and sub-family specific peptides were also synthesized. Antibodies present in the sera of P. chabaudi immune mice recognized all CIR proteins and peptides. Polyclonal antibodies were used to determine CIR localization by confocal microscopy and flow cytometry. Whilst most CIRs were located within the parasites, some CIRs were also found on the infected erythrocyte surface of mature trophozoites. In addition, CIRs were detected at the apical end of merozoites. These results imply that CIR proteins are exposed to the immune system during P. chabaudi infection and are antigenic, yet immunization with most CIR proteins and peptides did not protect mice from P. chabaudi infection. Upon P. chabaudi challenge of mice immunized with CIR sub-family specific reagents, increased levels of cir transcripts belonging to the other major sub-family were detected. This may explain why few differences in parasitaemia were observed. The exception was observed during P. chabaudi challenge of mice immunized with PCHAS_000100, which were able to clear parasitaemia earlier than controls.

Resumen
A previous investigation studied the use of advanced response types and non-linear dynamic inversion (NLDI) control to improve handling qualities for shipboard operations from a moving ship deck with unsteady airwake. The results showed potential for ship-relative Translation Rate Command (TRC) control modes to significantly reduce pilot workload, at least in mild sea states. The paper extends the investigation to better understand the bandwidth and the disturbance rejection requirements of the NLDI controller (and for rotorcraft control characteristics in general), when operating in a range of sea states and airwake conditions. The US Army's rotorcraft handling quality specification, ADS-33E-PRF, provides no specific design guidance on bandwidth or disturbance rejection properties for maritime operations. A family of controllers was developed to test varying levels of bandwidth and disturbance rejection proper-ties of Attitude Command / Attitude Hold (ACAH) and TRC control modes. The controllers gain sets were baselined at the minimum Level 1 ADS-33 requirements for response to pilot inputs and the 45° / 6-dB stability margins recommended by standard flight control design specifications. Piloted simulation tests were conducted to evaluate the handling qualities of the family of controllers in the midst of higher sea states and a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model for airwake turbulence. Simulations used the GENHEL-PSU UH-60 model integrated with the Penn State rotorcraft flight simulator. A maritime mission task element (MTE) was flown to evaluate handling qualities ratings (HQR) using the various response types and gain parameters. Results indicate that ACAH can improve HQRs over the conventional rate command mechanical control. HQRs with ACAH were still Level 2, and results indicate that the required ACAH bandwidth is significantly higher than that currently specified in ADS-33E-PRF. Results indicated that level 1 HQR could be achieved with ship-relative TRC in sea state 5, but that handling qualities were sensitive to rise time, with the required rise time at the low end of the range recommended by ADS-33E-PRF.

Resumen
The study presented in this paper investigates bandwidth and disturbance rejection requirements for a new kind of vehicle, namely the Personal Aerial Vehicle (PAV). PAVs are here meant as augmented rotorcraft that can be safely flown by pilots after a training comparable in length to that necessary to learn how to drive a car. Therefore, the control augmentation system should ensure both stability and disturbance rejection properties while meeting handling qualities suitable for minimal-trained pilots. The investigation is conducted by designing a family of controllers to achieve different trade-offs between stability, handling qualities and robustness requirements. The goal is to evaluate which control design provides the best characteristics to help minimal-trained pilots when operating in turbulent conditions. The evaluation is conducted by means of a pilot in-the-loop experiment in the Max Planck Institute CyberMotion Simulator. The experiment is conducted with 21 participants with no prior flight experience divided into three groups. Each group has to perform the same control task maneuver but with a different augmented helicopter dynamics. The performance analysis is carried out by considering both objective metrics and subjective evaluations. Results show that the design with improved disturbance rejection properties helped the participants achieve better performance and workload levels in turbulent conditions. However, a relaxation of the stability margins is necessary to achieve these properties and must be taken into account for an actual implementation in a helicopter.

Resumen
We have found 11 new members of the Hobson asteroids family: (537249) 2015 HM190, 2007 EH116, 2007 HC54, 2008 WV149, 2010 GN203, 2011 SU302, 2015 FV225, 2015 HV138, 2015 OP104, 2015 PM156, 2019 PS30. We estimated the Yarkovsky semimajor axis drift rate, the Hill sphere’s radii, and the escape velocity for all asteroids of the family. Simulation of the dynamic evolution of asteroids with allowance for the Yarkovsky effect has been carried out. Based on the simulation results, estimates of the asteroid pairs’ age included in the amily are obtained. The age of the Hobson asteroid family is about 400 kyr.

The propositus, a 2 1/2 year old boy, was found to have splenomegalia at a routine control, but was otherwise in good health. He had in his neonatal period had osteomyelitis in his left leg, compl. with sepsis and shock. His mother had had DVT in her left leg extending to the iliac vein in the puerp. Investigation of the boy and his mother showed a decrease of plasma plasminogen to about 50% of the normal both when assayed immunochem. and amidolyt. using the chrom. subst. S-2251 after activ. with SK. The same was found when using UK as the plasminogen activ. Investigation of 23 other members of the family showed another 11 members with the same defect but none of them had had DVT. The defect was inherited in an autosomally dominant way. Plasminogen was purified from plasma withdrawn from the mother of the propositus on a lysine Sepharose column. A normal aff. to lysine was noticed but the yield was low (43 mg/l plasma). The purified plasminogen showed the same spec, activ. as normal plasminogen purified in the same way (8.4 CTA u/mg and 8.7 CTA u/mg resp.). SDS-PAGE and crossed immunoelectrophoresis in tandem with the patient’s plasminogen and normal purified plasminogen revealed no difference between the two plasminogens. Furthermore, the same kinetic constants for the activ. by UK were found for both plasminogens. It is concluded that the plasminogen found in this family with a low incidence of DVT seemed to be normal. The reduced plasma concentration may be the result of a decreased synthesis of a normal protein.

Resumen
The Third Five-Year Plan (1961–66) aimed at reducing the crude birth rate in India to 25 per 1,000 population by 1973, however this goal has not been achieved. Several other demographic goals were set later, to be achieved by specified years, but they were deferred or revised. One major reason for the failure to achieve these goals was thought to be the lack of adequate infrastructural facilities for the family welfare program, thus it was decided to improve the institution–population ratio. The primary objective of this study is to assess the quality of interaction between clients and providers, and the quality of family welfare services. More specifically, the study examines how family welfare program personnel interact with clients in a given setting, the quality of interaction, how frequently such interaction takes place, the provider's view of, and satisfaction with, the information and quality of family welfare services provided, and the client's view of, and satisfaction with, the information and quality of family welfare services received. The focus of the investigation is on the family welfare program—the maternal and child health and family planning programs.

Kerber, Steve. Study of the Effectiveness of Fire Service Vertical Ventilation and Suppression Tactics in Single Family Homes. UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute, junio de 2013. http://dx.doi.org/10.54206/102376/iwzc6477.

Resumen
Under the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program, Underwriters Laboratories examined fire service ventilation and suppression practices as well as the impact of changes in modern house geometries. There has been a steady change in the residential fire environment over the past several decades. These changes include larger homes, more open floor plans and volumes, and increased synthetic fuel loads. This investigation examined the influence of these changes to the fire behavior and subsequent impact on firefighter tactics relative to horizontal and vertical ventilation and suppression. It is anticipated that the results of this investigation will be incorporated into improved firefighting tactics and decision making to reduce firefighter injuries and fatalities. Vertical ventilation has been used successfully but also resulted in firefighter fatalities in the past, as it is not easily coordinated with suppression and other fire ground tasks such as horizontal ventilation. It is not straightforward for firefighters to train on the effects of vertical ventilation since fire service training structures and props do not allow for ventilation-limited fire conditions with representative fuel loads and floor plans that will be encountered on the fire ground. Thus, guidance on the effectiveness of vertical ventilation comes from experience gained during real incidents, but under many different fire ground conditions. This has made it difficult to develop comprehensive guidance on the coordination of vertical ventilation with other firefighter tactics, and how these tactics may influence the fire dynamics in the burning home. The purpose of this study was to improve the understanding of the fire dynamics associated with the use of vertical ventilation so that it may be more effectively deployed on the fire ground. Two houses were constructed in the large fire facility of Underwriters Laboratories in Northbrook, IL. The first house was a one-story house (1200 ft, three bedrooms, one bathroom) with a total of 8 rooms. The second house was a two-story house (3200 ft, four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms) with a total of 12 rooms. The second house featured a modern open floor plan, two-story great room and open foyer. A total of seventeen experiments were conducted varying the ventilation locations and the number of ventilation openings. Ventilation scenarios included ventilating the front door and a window near the seat of the fire (with modern and legacy furnishings) to link to the previous research on horizontal ventilation, opening the front door and ventilating over the fire and remote from the fire. Additional experiments examined controlling the front door, making different sized ventilation holes in the roof and the impact of exterior hose streams. The results from the experiments led to identification of tactical considerations for the fire service to integrate into their education and fire ground strategies and tactics where applicable.

Resumen
The purpose of this report is to investigate the effects of family background factors in determining the intergenerational transmission of poverty in Latin America, drawing on a review of recent studies and empirical work done for this study. Based on the findings of this investigation, the report discusses policy implications and government programs to break the ITP process. The empirical results are based on a sample of Peruvian families that were interviewed in 1985 and 1994 and on the analysis of sixteen countries' cross-sectional data sets obtained from sample surveys in those countries.

Resumen
According to the communis opinio, prince Kawab is a son of Cheops. This assumption is primarily based on G. A. Reisner’s conclusions about the location of mastabahs and queen’s pyramids in the East Field and on three relief fragments from mastabah G 7110/20, which W. S. Smith ingeniously assigned to a scene naming Kawab and his mother Meretites. Early after G. A. Reisner had published the first part of his view on the history of the royal family of the Fourth Dynasty, substantial critique was brought forward by W. Federn. Following the latter, Kawab should be considered a grandson of Sneferu because, apart from mastabah G 7110/20 in Gizah, another mastabah at Dahshur bears witness of him. Even though it is now safely determined that the two are neither one and the same person nor contemporaries, W. Federn’s review has been taken as a starting point for further critical investigation by some scholars who came to the conclusion that Kawab was rather a son of Sneferu.

Resumen
The subject of this article is a wooden stela (AAd6) kept in the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen. By iconographical and typological criteria, this object is datable to the 22nd Dynasty and probably comes from the Theban area. The stela displays several particularities, among others, one of the longest genealogies preserved on this object type. Alongside a careful investigation of the different iconographical elements and a new translation of the text, this contribution looks into the onomastic and the prosopographical material, examining different titles such as “ḥnk-nw.w-priest in southern Heliopolis” or “wab-priest in chief of the estate of Mut, the great one, the mistress of Isheru.” This study not only reconstitutes the family tree but also connects this object with three others, that are datable to a timeframe from the 21st Dynasty to the beginning of the 26th Dynasty. An excursus focusing on the painting sequence of the text and depictions contributes to a better understanding of the creation of wooden stelae in the Third intermediate Period.

EIWO’s methodological approaches: A field report of the qualitative interviews in EIWO project III. Linköping University Electronic Press, marzo de 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.3384/9789180750585.

Resumen
This field report provides detailed information on the methodological approach as well as on the process of data collection and analysis in EIWO project III – “Mechanisms and Origins of Late Working Life Exclusion”. EIWO project III is part of the qualitative part of the EIWO programme and is – together with EIWO project VI, VII, and VIII from phase II – one of the four projects in which primary data is collected. EIWO uses a mixed-methods approach in its nine sub-projects, so that quantitative and qualitative methods are used in combination to investigate – from a life course perspective – the topic of late working life and the potential of extension of working lives on different levels (micro, meso and macro level). Due to the different methodological approaches, results from some projects provide evidence for further investigations in other sub-projects, whereby, for example, results of the qualitative investigations can be validated using large data sets. In projects in the field of life course research, a mixed-methods approach is widely used because it allows for a detailed investigation of the structural, institutional and individual factors influencing the life course. EIWO project III focuses in particular on the micro level by taking the perspective of individuals and thus provides a basis on which quantitative analyses, e.g. in EIWO project IV, can be built on. “The main aims of project III are to analyse the nature and sources of inequalities in late working life employment/retirement and to identify individual/family responses and coping strategies” (Application EIWO programme). Based on these aims, the following research questions were formulated for EIWO project III: What events and circumstances can be identified over the life course that lead to social inequalities/exclusion in late working life employment from the individual perspective? What are the explanatory mechanisms? How are exclusion risks and inequalities assessed on the individual level in late working life? Do persons experience social inequalities/exclusion? If they experience exclusion/inequalities: What coping strategies are/were used to reduce inequalities/exclusion? What can be learned from individual responses as to how meso-level organisational policies and macro-level social policies help or hinder transitions? In the following, it will be described why a qualitative research approach was chosen for this project and what characterises this approach. Then, the research instruments and the inclusion criteria for the sample will be explained. The third chapter illustrates the field phase, including the recruitment phase, the final composition of the sample and the conduct of the interviews, as well as challenges that arose during the field phase and the chosen approaches. Finally, the data analysis method is discussed and the report is concluded with a short summary.
