Resumen
Despite the variety of approaches and tools studied, face recognition is not accurate or robust enough to be used in uncontrolled environments. Recently, infrared (IR) imagery of human faces is considered as a promising alternative to visible imagery. IR face recognition is a biometric which offers the security of fingerprints with the convenience of face recognition. However, IR has its own limitations. The presence of eyeglasses has more influence on IR than visible imagery. In this paper, a method based on Log-Gabor wavelets for IR face recognition is proposed. The method first derives a Log-Gabor feature vector from IR face image, then obtains the independent Log-Gabor features by using independent component analysis (ICA). Experimental results show that the proposed method works well, even in challenging situations.

Resumen
Educational benefits of collaborative learning have been demonstrated in several studies and various systems have been developed to date. Numerous efforts have been made to enhance these benefits by supporting collaborative learning with information and communications technology. These efforts have primarily involved support for constructing collaborative learning groups, for collaborative learning in e-learning environments, and for collaborative learning analysis. This study aims to develop a computer-supported collaborative learning system that supports instructors in real time to facilitate collaborative learning in a face-to-face environment with multiple learners at the same time to provide enhanced support. Both the learner and instructor have one tablet terminal and conduct collaborative learning in a single classroom. Herein, the learner can use the tablet to save an educational log and freely browse the educational log of another learner. By referencing the educational logs, learners can learn through face-to-face communication. Additionally, the instructor can determine (1) who is viewing whose educational log and to what extent and (2) which learner is struggling to achieve targets. Herein, an overview of the proposed system is provided and the results obtained using the proposed system are reported to evaluate its effectiveness.

Resumen
This paper introduces an effective face detection method based on log-Gabor filters. First, Information contained in the log-Gabor transformations is analyzed. Next, 5-scale and 8-orientation log-Gabor filters are constructed to extract feature vectors. Then, a three-layer feedforward network is created for feature classification. After training the network, we test 80 samples. From the experimental result, log-Gabor filters based method has comparable detection performance with Gabor filters based method. Therefore, log-Gabor filters can encode the images more efficiently.

Resumen
Wearing surgical face masks for a long time has a number of physiologic and psychological consequences, as well as the potential to reduce work efficiency. Physical side effects of long-term usage of surgical masks include headaches, trouble breathing, acne, skin breakdown, rashes, and reduced memory. It also obstructs eyesight, communication, and thermal balance. The objective of this research was to investigate the effects of bacteria growth and type of bacteria morphology present on the face mask. Serial dilutions were used to calculate the concentration of microorganisms. As it would usually be impossible to actually count the number of microorganisms in a sample, the sample was diluted and plated to get a reasonable number of colonies to count. Since the dilution factor was known, the number of microorganisms Log CFU per mL was calculated. The CFU count results clarify the growth curve pattern of bacteria formed on agar plate surfaces and revealed some details of bacterial life after their adhesion onto surfaces in the presence of agar. This growth curve exhibited distinct phases: the lag phases, the exponential (log) phases, the stagnant phases and the dead phases. Gram staining and hanging drop method was used to identify the gram positive, gram negative and the bacteria morphology. This study provides insightful on the investigation of bacteria present on surgical face masks which is little available in literature.

Resumen
Humans readily form social impressions, such as attractiveness and trustworthiness, from a stranger’s facial features. Understanding the provenance of these impressions has clear scientific importance and societal implications. Motivated by the efficient coding hypothesis of brain representation, as well as Claude Shannon’s theoretical result that maximally efficient representational systems assign shorter codes to statistically more typical data (quantified as log likelihood), we suggest that social “liking” of faces increases with statistical typicality. Combining human behavioral data and computational modeling, we show that perceived attractiveness, trustworthiness, dominance, and valence of a face image linearly increase with its statistical typicality (log likelihood). We also show that statistical typicality can at least partially explain the role of symmetry in attractiveness perception. Additionally, by assuming that the brain focuses on a task-relevant subset of facial features and assessing log likelihood of a face using those features, our model can explain the “ugliness-in-averageness” effect found in social psychology, whereby otherwise attractive, intercategory faces diminish in attractiveness during a categorization task.

Resumen
Objectives The purpose of this study is to develop the practice program of ‘Establishment of marketing strategy based on field research’ for the face-to-face and non-face-to-face 「Principles of Marketing」 PBL classes, respectively. Methods After developing a practice program according to the meaningful learning experience-oriented course design method, it was operated for 4 years (2 years of face-to-face class, 2 years of non-face-to-face class), and has been improved through action research. The researcher's participant observation log (reflection diary), student's learning log and interview data were analyzed using content analysis methods. Causal chains analysis and class structure analysis were also applied. Results The practice program used two linked PBL modules: From the perspective of a company, each team 1) finds consumer pain points based on field research results and 2) establishes marketing strategies that can resolve/improve them. The face-to-face class program focused on problem-solving practice based on field research data. The non-face-to-face class program was structured around the use of CIT (critical Incident Technique) and mini-survey in connection with ZOOM-based interviews instead of participant observation. In the final non- face-to-face 「Principles of Marketing」 class to which this method was applied, the result of the lecture evaluation portrayed a high satisfaction level (98.8/100 points). Conclusions The final completed non-face-to-face class and face-to-face class practice program was presented using the ‘course structure diagram’ to make it easier to understand the overall structure. Methods of application in mixed classes (classes using both face-to-face and non-face-to-face instruction), which are expected to increase in the future, are also presented.

Resumen
There is an increasing demand for biometric security systems in several fields. This study presents a highly accurate facial recognition method that uses high-speed transformation and facial morphing using region-limited log-polar transformation based on a center point calculated from the coordinates of both eyes and corners of the mouth. Log-polar transformation is limited to the region, so that the region including the feature can be suppressed to the minimum range, thereby facilitating high-speed transformation. Additionally, after facial morphing, the shapes of the eyes and mouth are altered based on the outline of the face, enabling high-precision facial recognition. The efficacy of the proposed method is verified experimentally. Therefore, we can confirm that 91.72% of images using the color FERET database and 96% of images using the FEI face database can be recognized using our method.

In the era of big data, the biometric identification process is growing very fast and is increasingly being implemented in many applications. Face recognition technology utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to recognize faces that are already stored in the database. In this research, it is proposed to design an online academic login system at the National University using real time face recognition used OpenCV with the Local Binary Pattern Histogram algorithm and the Haar Cassade Classification method. The system will detect, recognize and compare faces with the stored face database. The image used is 480 x 680 pixels with a .jpg extension in the form of an RGB image which will be converted into a Grayscale image., to make it easier to calculate the histogram value of each face that will be recognized. With a modeling system like this it is hope to make it easy for user to log into online academics. Keywords:Face Recognition, Haar Cascade Clasifier, Local Binary Pattern Histogram, Online Akademic, OpenCV.

Resumen
The use of two-piece billets in aluminium extrusion is often viewed as a necessary evil. A heating system that provides two-piece billets to the press can provide better ingot utilization than a heater which provides single-piece billets. The issues associated with the handling and extruding of two-piece billets are accepted as the price of improved ingot utilization. With the rotary welder, the end of each log segment is joined to the front of the following log by friction welding. The combination of the rotation of the short piece and the pressure applied creates a bond that will maintain one-piece integrity as the billet is conveyed to the press and loaded into the container. The handling issues associated with two-piece billets are eliminated. A unique re-cut cycle removes contaminants from the two weld faces immediately prior to welding. The two ends are precisely aligned and the saw makes a cut that removes the face of the remaining piece and the face of the following log. This re-cut removes debris, oxide and potential trapped air from a less than perfect cut at the cast house. The welding is then performed with the two freshly cut faces. The metallurgical performance is improved by the removal of debris and oxide on the faces. This allows the use of welded billets in some applications that previously required single-piece billets to achieve the necessary structural integrity.

Resumen
Background:Low levels of physical activity and high levels of sedentary behavior (SB) are major public health concerns. This study was designed to develop and validate the 7-day Sedentary (S) and Light Intensity Physical Activity (LIPA) Log (7-day SLIPA Log), a self-report measure of specific daily behaviors.Method:To develop the log, 62 specific SB and LIPA behaviors were chosen from the Compendium of Physical Activities. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with 32 sedentary volunteers to identify domains and behaviors of SB and LIPA. To validate the log, a further 22 sedentary adults were recruited to wear the GT3x for 7 consecutive days and nights. Results:Pearson correlations (r) between the 7-day SLIPA Log and GT3x were significant for sedentary (r = .86, P < .001), for LIPA (r = .80, P < .001). Lying and sitting postures were positively correlated with GT3x output (r = .60 and r = .64, P < .001, respectively). No significant correlation was found for standing posture (r = .14, P = .53).The kappa values between the 7-day SLIPA Log and GT3x variables ranged from 0.09 to 0.61, indicating poor to good agreement. Conclusion:The 7-day SLIPA Log is a valid self-report measure of SB and LIPA in specific behavioral domains.

In this paper we consider the ip operation for combinatorial pointed pseudotriangulations where faces have size 3 or 4, so-called combinatorial 4-PPTs.We show that every combinatorial 4-PPT is stretchable to a geometric pseudo-triangulation, which in general is not the case if faces may have size larger than 4. Moreover, we prove that the ip graph of combinatorial 4-PPTs is connected and has diameter O(n2), even in the case of labeled vertices with fixed outer face. For this case we provide an Ω(n log n) lower bound.

Resumen
Abstract In cut-to-length logging, the harvester operator adjusts the bucking in accordance with visible defects on processed stems. Some of the defects, such as a sweep on the bottom of the stem, decrease the yield and quality of sawn products and are difficult for the operator to notice. Detecting the defects with improved sensors would support the operator in his qualitative decision-making and increase value recovery of logging. Predicting the maximum bow height of the bottom log in Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) with log end face image and stem taper was investigated with two modelling approaches. A total of 101 stems were selected from five clear-cut stands in southern Finland. The stems were crosscut and taper measured, and the butt ends of the bottom logs were photographed. The stem diameter, out-of-roundness, and pith eccentricity were measured from the images while the max. bow height was measured by a 3D log scanner at a sawmill. The bottom logs with an eccentric pith had higher max. bow height. In addition, a highly conical bottom part of the stem was more common on the bottom logs with a large max. bow height. Applying both log end face image and stem taper measurements gave the best model fit and detection accuracy (76%) for bottom logs with a large max. bow height. The results indicate that the log end face image and stem taper measurements can be utilised to aid harvester operator in deciding an optimised length for logs according to the bow height.

Resumen
Abstract We present a list of 220 face-on, almost bulgeless galaxies assumed to be counterparts to the objects from the Reference Flat Galaxy Catalogue (RFGC). We selected the Sc-, Scd-, and Sd-type galaxies according to their apparent axial ratio log(r25) < 0.05 and major standard angular diameter log(d25) > 0.90 as defined in HyperLEDA. The sample objects are restricted by the radial velocity $V_{\mathrm{ LG}} \lt 10\, 000$ km s−1 and a declination of above –30 deg. The morphological composition of our sample is quite similar to that of RFGC. We notice the following common properties of face-on bulgeless galaxies. About half of them have bar-like structures occurring in the whole range of the absolute magnitudes of galaxies: from −17 to −22 mag. An essential part of our sample (27–50 per cent) exhibit distorted spiral patterns. The galaxies do not show significant asymmetry in numbers of the ‘S’- and ‘Z’-like spin orientation. The mean (pseudo-)bulge-to-total mass ratio for the sample is estimated as 0.11. Due to a negligible internal extinction, low-light background, and small projection effect, the face-on Sc–Sd discs are suitable objects to recognize their central nuclei as moderate-mass BH candidates. About 40–60 per cent of the galaxies have distinct unresolved nuclei, and their presence steeply depends on the luminosity of the host galaxy.

Resumen
We study the XAI (explainable AI) on the face recognition task, particularly the face verification. Face verification has become a crucial task in recent days and it has been deployed to plenty of applications, such as access control, surveillance, and automatic personal log-on for mobile devices. With the increasing amount of data, deep convolutional neural networks can achieve very high accuracy for the face verification task. Beyond exceptional performances, deep face verification models need more interpretability so that we can trust the results they generate. In this article, we propose a novel similarity metric, called explainable cosine ( xCos ), that comes with a learnable module that can be plugged into most of the verification models to provide meaningful explanations. With the help of xCos , we can see which parts of the two input faces are similar, where the model pays its attention to, and how the local similarities are weighted to form the output xCos score. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method on LFW and various competitive benchmarks, not only resulting in providing novel and desirable model interpretability for face verification but also ensuring the accuracy as plugging into existing face recognition models.

Resumen
We analyze the relationship between the lung cancer mortality and the indoor radon intensity from the viewpoint of nonlinear mathematics. We conclude that their relationship is governed by the proportionality law where the cumulative lung cancer mortality Y is negatively proportional to the cumulative radon intensity X; or specifically, the nonlinear change of nonlinear face value (qYu – qY) is negatively proportional to the nonlinear change of nonlinear face value (X – Xb). The author obtained a set of data from late Professor Cohen on the lung-cancer mortality rate versus indoor radon level collected from 1,597 counties and territory of the USA. We initially presented the data as various primitive elementary graphs; then extended them to the primary graphs, leading graphs, and the proportionality graphs. The article emphasizes the building of a straight-line proportionality relationship for the dose-response data in a log-linear and/or log-log graphs. It demonstrates a straightforward methodology for solving the key upper asymptotes (Yu) for the proportionality equation using the Microsoft Excel via determining the “coefficient of determination”. (Note: q = log, Yu = upper asymptote of Y, Xb = bottom asymptote of X)

Let [Formula: see text] be a set of n (possibly intersecting) line segments in the plane. We show that the arrangement of [Formula: see text] can be stored implicitly in a data structure of size O(n log 2n) so that the following query can be answered in time O(n1/2 log 2 n): Given two query points, determine whether they lie in the same face of the arrangement of S and, if so, return a path between them that lies within the face. This version of the implicit point location problem is motivated by the following motion planning problem: Given a polygonal robot R with m vertices and a planar region bounded by polygonal obstacles with n vertices in total, preprocess them into a data structure so that, given initial and final positions of R, one can quickly determine whether there exists a continuous collision-free translational motion of R from the initial to the final position. We show that such a query can be answered in time O((mn)1/2 log 2 mn) using O(mn log 2 mn) storage.

Resumen
Fast determination of mineral nutrition contents of fruit trees is essential for orchard precision fertilizing management. A multi-spectral imaging system was developed and tested for the measurement of leaf nitrogen content of fruit trees in the study. Images taken using this system included visible images(R-G-B) and near-infrared image(NIR). These images were further processed into several indices such as RVI, NDVI, GNDVI, -log(R) and –log(G). Total 185 leaf samples were picked from Huang-hua pear trees which were planted in three orchards with different nitrogen fertilizing levels. Among them, 135 samples were randomly sorted out as calibration set with the remaining 50 as prediction set. A SPAD-502 chlorophyll meter was used for nitrogen reference measurement. In calibration modeling, leaf front and back faces were photographed respectively. Calibration models were developed based on single variant as well as multiple variants. The result shows that calibration models based on leaf front face are better than those based on leaf back face. Among others, R and G are the most important factors for nitrogen determination with less contribution of B and NIR. Based on the images of leaf front face, R, G, RVI, NDVI, GNDVI, -log(R) and –log(G) were found significantly correlated with nitrogen content with correlation coefficients of prediction (r_pre^2) of 0.7516, 0.7396, 0.7332, 0.7220, 0.7588, 0.7598 and 0.7379 respectively. The linear combinations of R-G-B-NIR, RVI-NDVI-GNDVI and NDVI-GNDVI achieved better prediction accuracy with r_pre^2 of 0.8157, 0.7775 and 0.7661 respectively. To further improve the prediction accuracy, a three-layer BP-ANN was developed with the three combinations as its input data. The result shows that BP-ANN has an excellent performance to predict nitrogen contents. BP-ANN with the input of R-G-B-NIR performs best with r_pre^2 of 0.9386 and maximum error of 3.52(SPAD). The study suggests that multi-spectral imaging system integrated with prediction model of BP-ANN with original reflectance intensity of R-G-B-NIR channels as its input data is promising for in situ measurement of nitrogen content of fruit tree.

Resumen
<p>We can identify human faces using a web Camera which is known as Face Detection. This is a very effective technique in computer technology. There are used different types of attendance systems such as log in with the password, punch card, fingerprint, etc. In this research, we have introduced a facial recognition type of biometric system that can identify a specific face by analyzing and comparing patterns of a digital image. This system is the latest login system based on face detection. Primarily, the device captures the face images and stores the captured images into the specific path of the computer relating the information into a database. When any body tries to enter into any room or premises through this login system, the system captures the image of that particular person and matches the image with the stored image. If this image matches with the stored image then the system allows the person to enter the room or premises, otherwise the system denies entry. This face recognition login system is very effective, reliable and secured. Resumen
In research work, human face recognition is an essential biometric symbol persistently continued so far due to its different levels of applications in society. Since the appearance of the human faces can have many variations due to issues like the effect of illumination, expression and face pose. These differences are correlated with one another, which results in a helpless ability to recognize a particular person's face. The motivation behind our work in this paper is to give a new framework for face recognition based on frequency analysis that contributes to solving the distinguishing proof issues with enormous varieties of boundaries like the effect of illumination, expression, and face pose. Here three algorithms combined for provable results: i) Difference of Gaussian filtered discrete wavelet transform (DDWT) for feature extraction; ii) Log Gabor (LG) filter for feature extraction; and iv) Multiclass support vector machine classifier, where feature coefficients of DDWT and LG filter are fused for classification and parameters evaluation. The evaluation of our experiment is carried out on a large database consisting of 15 persons of each 200-face image which are captured using a 5-megapixel low-resolution web camera and yielding satisfactory results on various parameters compared to existing methods.

Resumen
This article presents a novel approach for illumination and rotation invariant texture representation for face recognition. A gradient transformation is used as illumination invariance property and a Galois Field for the rotation invariance property. The normalized cumulative histogram bin values of the Gradient Galois Field transformed image represent the illumination and rotation invariant texture features. These features are further used as face descriptors. Experimentations are performed on FERET and extended Cohn Kanade databases. The results show that the proposed method is better as compared to Rotation Invariant Local Binary Pattern, Log-polar transform and Sorted Local Gradient Pattern and is illumination and rotation invariant.

Resumen
This article advances knowledge by trying to understand online courses from student behavior. This article analyzed student participation in 15 online courses during the years 2012–2015. The sample includes 106 students and their detailed log-on minutes and grades. The author applied a descriptive analysis, a one-way ANOVA, and a simple regression model. The empirical evidence suggests that student attention is substantially discounted in an online learning environment as evidenced by the much lower-than-expected log-on minutes. Students do not seem to treat online courses as equivalent to their traditional on-site counterparts. They tend to “review for assignments.” It is doubtful that students would achieve the same level of learning outcomes as in a conventional face-to-face instruction. The results help to understand how college instruction can best use the Internet.

Resumen
The complex light conditions, and this is one of the most important and difficult problems in practical face recognition, in this paper, we propose a new deep learning-based method to solve the problem of the effect of the light of the changes in the facial recognition process. First, the primary treatment of the lighting can be used to improve the negative effects of intensive changes in the lighting of a photo of a face, and for a second, the Log-Gabor filters in order to get the images used in the Log-Gabor features at different scales and in different directions, and then, the LBP (Local Binary Pattern) features on the image subblock is obtained. Finally, the histogram of the texture of the features of the formation and the visual layer of the deep belief network (DBN) to drop, and then the classification and the recognition is done with a deep-learning-DBN. The experimental results show that superior performance can be obtained in the application of the strategy in comparison to some of the modern technology.

Resumen
Engagement with web-based interventions is both generally low and typically declining. Visits and revisits remain a challenge. Based on log data of a web-based cluster randomized controlled trial conducted in vocational schools, the present secondary analysis aimed to identify influencing factors on initially logging in to a health promotion platform among young adults and to examine the engagement over the course of an eight-week intervention. Data of 336 students (62.2% female, age span 18–25) from two intervention arms (web-based intervention and web-based intervention with an additional initial face-to-face contact) was included. Binary logistic regression and log-data visualization were performed. An additional initial face-to-face contact (odds ratio (OR) = 2.971, p = 0.005), female sex (OR = 2.237, p = 0.046) and the health-related skill “dealing with health information” (OR = 2.179, p = 0.030) significantly increased the likelihood of initially logging in. Other variables showed no influence. 16.6% of all potential users logged in at least once, of which 57.4% revisited the platform. Most logins were tracked at the beginning of the intervention and repeated engagement was low. To increase the engagement with web-based interventions, health-related skills should be fostered. In addition, a strategy could be to interlink comparable interventions in vocational schools more regularly with everyday teaching through multi-component interventions.

The act of logging the events (transactions, errors, intrusions, etc.) happening within an information system is about the same age as the system itself. Mining these historical records, however, is a recent demand to support robotic process automation initiatives. Our goal is to create an RPA solution for heavily overloaded customer services and we now face the problem of getting logs with different syntax and structure. This paper presents the standard event log formats and reviews the steps of transforming the most frequent non-standard log formats into a uniform formalism.

Resumen
Multimodal biometrics technology has recently gained interest due to its capacity to overcome certain inherent limitations of the single biometric modalities and to improve the overall recognition rate. A common biometric recognition system consists of sensing, feature extraction, and matching modules. The robustness of the system depends much more on the reliability to extract relevant information from the single biometric traits. This paper proposes a new feature extraction technique for a multimodal biometric system using face–iris traits. The iris feature extraction is carried out using an efficient multi-resolution 2D Log-Gabor filter to capture textural information in different scales and orientations. On the other hand, the facial features are computed using the powerful method of singular spectrum analysis (SSA) in conjunction with the wavelet transform. SSA aims at expanding signals or images into interpretable and physically meaningful components. In this study, SSA is applied and combined with the normal inverse Gaussian (NIG) statistical features derived from wavelet transform. The fusion process of relevant features from the two modalities are combined at a hybrid fusion level. The evaluation process is performed on a chimeric database and consists of Olivetti research laboratory (ORL) and face recognition technology (FERET) for face and Chinese academy of science institute of automation (CASIA) v3.0 iris image database (CASIA V3) interval for iris. Experimental results show the robustness.

Resumen
Due to COVID-19, the importance of non-face-to-face counseling is increasing as the face-to-face counseling method has progressed to non-face-to-face counseling. The advantage of non-face-to-face counseling is that it can be consulted online anytime, anywhere and is safe from COVID-19. However, it is difficult to understand the client's mind because it is difficult to communicate with non-verbal expressions. Therefore, it is important to recognize emotions by accurately analyzing text and voice in order to understand the client's mind well during non-face-to-face counseling. Therefore, in this paper, text data is vectorized using FastText after separating consonants, and voice data is vectorized by extracting features using Log Mel Spectrogram and MFCC respectively. We propose a multi-emotion recognition model that recognizes five emotions using vectorized data using an LSTM model. Multi-emotion recognition is calculated using RMSE. As a result of the experiment, the RMSE of the proposed model was 0.2174, which was the lowest error compared to the model using text and voice data, respectively.

We show that for⌊d/2⌋≤k≤d, the relative interior of everyk-face of ad-simplexΔdcan be intersected by a2(d−k)-dimensional affine flat. Bezdek, Bisztriczky, and Connelly's results [2] show that the conditionk≥⌊d/2⌋above cannot be dropped and hence raise the question of determining, for all0≤k,j<d, an upper bound on the functionc(j,k;d), defined as the smallest number ofj-flats,j<d, needed to intersect the relative interiors of all thek-faces ofΔd. Using probabilistic arguments, we show thatC( j,k;d)≤(d+1k+1)(w+1k+1)log(d+1k+1), where w=min(max(⌊j2⌋+k,j),d). (*)Finally, we consider the functionM(j,k;d), defined as the largest number ofk-faces ofΔdwhose relative interiors can be intersected by aj-flat. We show that, for largedand for allksuch thatk+j≥d,M(j,k;d)≤f⌈3j/4⌉−1(d+1,j), wherefm(n,q)is the number ofm-faces in a cyclicq-polytope withn-vertices. Our results suggest a conjecture about face-lattices of polytopes that if proved, would play a useful role in further studies on sections of polytopes.

This paper proposes hybrid approaches based on both feature level and score level fusion strategies to provide a robust recognition system against the distortions of individual modalities. In order to compare the proposed schemes, a virtual multimodal database is formed from FERET face and PolyU palmprint databases. The proposed hybrid systems concatenate features extracted by local and global feature extraction methods such as Local Binary Patterns, Log Gabor, Principal Component Analysis and Linear Discriminant Analysis. Match score level fusion is performed in order to show the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed schemes. The experimental results based on these databases reported a significant improvement of the proposed schemes compared with unimodal systems and other multimodal face–palmprint fusion methods.

Resumen
Unconventional remaining oil and gas resources such as tight oil, shale oil, and coalbed gas are currently the focus of the exploration and development of major oil fields all over the world. Therefore, to make best understand of target reservoirs, enhancing the vertical resolution of well log data is crucial important. However, in the face of the continuous low-level fluctuations of international oil price, large scale use of expensive high resolution well logging hardware tools has always been unaffordable and unacceptable. In another aspect, traditional well log interpolation methods can always not realize high reliable information enhancement for crucial high frequency components. In this paper, in order to improve the well log data super-resolution performance, we propose for the first time to employ Locally Linear Embedding (LLE) technique to reveal the nonlinear mapping relationship between 2-times-scale-difference well log data. Several super resolution experiments with well log data from a given area of Daqing Oil field, China, were conducted. Experimental results illustrated that the proposed LLE-based method can efficiently achieve more reliable super-resolution results than other state-of-the-art methods.

AbstractWe present the properties of a large sample (12,282) of nearly face-on low surface brightness disk galaxies selected from the main galaxy sample of SDSS-DR4. Those properties includes B-band central surface brightness μ0(B), scale lengths h, distances D, integrated magnitudes, colors and some resulted relations. This sample has μ0(B) from 22 to 24.5 mag arcsec−2 with a median value of 22.44 mag arcsec−2. They are quite bright with MB taking values from −18 to −23 mag with a median value of −20.08 mag. The disk scale lengths h are from 2 kpc to 19 kpc. There exist clear correlations between log h and MB, log h and log D. Both the optical-optical and optical-NIR color-color relations show most of them have a mix of young and old stellar populations.

Resumen
At present, the synthesizing faces of different ages does not emphasize on feature alignment and rectification of twisted images. If these situations do happen, they might cause failure and inaccuracy on synthesizing images. In this paper, we propose a reversible human facial aging/rejuvenating synthesis system which is implemented by Active Shape Model (ASM) integrated with Log-Gabor Wavelet, which can be used to search for the dementia elderly. First, we use AdaBoost and ASM algorithm to extract the feature set of human face, and rectify them by the concept of facial geometric invariance. The invariant concepts are the distance between inner corners of both eyes and the distance between the nose and chin. Then, we find manually one target image which is similar to the test image from the database, and analyze age texture of this human image by Log-Gabor wavelet in order to retrieve decomposition maps. Finally, we can effectively simulate human facial images of people of different ages by controlling the number of decomposition map of images and objectively judge the results via the density of wrinkles.

Resumen
The processes of adsorption of sulphate anions onto the (111) face of silver have been investigated by analysis of the cyclic voltammetry and potentiostatic pulse results. It was shown, by fitting the experimentally recorded ?-E dependences, that the adsorption of anions follows Frumkin adsorption isotherm. The adsorbed structure was found to be less dense than expected for the dense packed anion monolayer and the process was characterized by high value of the interaction parameter and the Gibbs energy of adsorption (f = 16.5 and ?G o ads, ??0 = -64 kJ mol-1). From the slope of the E p,a -log (c0) dependence it was concluded that complete charge transfer between the adsorbed anions and the silver substrate occurs. This is supported by the E p,a -log v linear dependence in the region of high sweep rates (v > 10 V s-1 ) with rational value of line slope (?60 mV dec-1 ) which is possible only if the complete charge transfer reaction occurs. The electrosorption process of sulphate anions was found to be complex electrochemical reaction, taking place through three steps. It was proposed that the rate-determining step is the second step, i.e., the electrochemical formation of (SO4)ads species.

Resumen
Illumination variation makes automatic face recognition a challenging task, especially in low light environments. A very simple and efficient novel low-light image denoising of low frequency noise (DeLFN) is proposed. The noise frequency distribution of low-light images is presented based on massive experimental results. The low and very low frequency noise are dominant in low light conditions. DeLFN is a three-level image denoising method. The first level denoises mixed noises by histogram equalization (HE) to improve overall contrast. The second level denoises low frequency noise by logarithmic transformation (LOG) to enhance the image detail. The third level denoises residual very low frequency noise by high-pass filtering to recover more features of the true images. The PCA (Principal Component Analysis) recognition method is applied to test recognition rate of the preprocessed face images with DeLFN. DeLFN are compared with several representative illumination preprocessing methods on the Yale Face Database B, the Extended Yale face database B, and the CMU PIE face database, respectively. DeLFN not only outperformed other algorithms in improving visual quality and face recognition rate, but also is simpler and computationally efficient for real time applications.
