Kvinners deltakelse i arbeidsmarkedet blir ofte sett på som en transformerende faktor for å styrke deres stilling, bidra til økt velferd gjennom høyere inntekt og redu­sere ulikheter. Etiopias voksende fabrikkindustri står sentralt i landets plan for økt økonomisk vekst og jobbskaping, og kvinners arbeidsdeltakelse er spesielt trukket frem i denne sammenhengen. Vi rapporterer fra en studie der vi undersøker den kausale effekten av å få en jobb i fabrikkindustrien i Etiopia på kvinners inntekt, helse og tilfredshet. Vi finner at en fabrikkjobb gir lav inntekt, men på grunn av få alternative arbeidsmuligheter tjener fabrikkansatte mye mer enn en sammenlignbar kontrollgruppe. Videre finner vi noe negativ effekt på helse, men ingen effekt på generell tilfredshet. En stor utfordring i fabrikkindustrien er at mange av de ansatte slutter i jobben etter kort tid. Vi finner at blant 620 nyansatte var bare 251 ansatt etter syv måneder. Flesteparten av de som sluttet, ble arbeids­ledige, og mange gikk uten inntekt i lengre perioder. Hva er det som får så mange kvinner til å avslå en slik mulighet? Vi finner at lavt lønnsnivå, lange arbeidsdager og belast­ende arbeidsmiljø er hovedårsakene til høyt gjennomtrekk av ansatte i fabrikkindustrien i Etiopia. Så lenge ikke lønnsnivået økes og arbeidsmiljøet forbedres, vil fabrikkindustrien neppe ha den transformerende virkningen mange håper på.

Svako ko je selio domaćinstvo bar jednom u toku života, zna koliki stres selidba može da prouzrokuje, jer se stres ne odnosi samo na selidbu domaćinstvao, nego i na kreiranju nove životne rutine i novog životnog prostora. Zato je stres od selidbe prema naučnim istraživanjima pozicioniran na 5. mestu najstresnijih događaja u životu. Ako se napravi analogija sa selidbom fabrike, ona bi zauzela sigurno visoko mesto među najstresnijim poslovnim iskušenjima, koji vlasnici fabrike i učesnici u selidbi, mogu u toku svoje karijere da dožive. Jer u toku procesa selidbe domaćinstva, čovek paralelno nastavlja sa svojim životnim obavezama, dok u slučaju selidbe fabrike, fabrika staje sa radom i u tom periodu dolazi do pozpunoh zaustavljanja generisanje kapitala. Šta više, proces selidbe troši finansijske resurse sve više i više kako vreme teče. Selidba fabrike je veće kompleksnosti od izgradnje nove fabrike i potrebno joj je pristupiti sa posebnom brigom uzimajući u vide različite aspekte procesa selidbe. Posebno treba biti vođena briga o istrošenim delovima fabrike u toku celog procesa selidbe, zato štosu istrošeni delovi fabrike, čija je jačina i krutost u toku vremena oslabljena, podložniji oštećenju i lomu i čine proces selidbe samo po sebi još težim.

Resumen
This article presents readings of three American films that engage with American histories of deindustrialization: Gung Ho, Roger & Me and 8 Mile. Since the publication of Barry Bluestone and Bennett Harrison’s The Deindustrialization of America in 1982, much research has explored important economic and social-historical aspects concerning the waning number of industrial jobs in the U.S. and the impact of factory closings on many cities in the so-called Rust Belt. This paper explores a cultural side of that story, especially taking its cue from Sherry Lee Linkon’s The Half-Life of Deindustrialization (2018). The paper explores how Gung Ho’s comedic depiction of deindustrialization all but elides important class tensions, how Roger & Me, among other things, intervenes in discussions regarding priorities in leftist discourse in the U.S. and how 8 Mile explores a tension between industrial and creative work in the 1990s in Detroit. It closes by pointing to the relevance of further research into the cultural aspects of deindustrialization.

The lichen population in the vicinity of Domsjö factory, Örnsköldsvik, was studied since many common species seemed to be negatively affected. The first lichen inventory in Örnsköldsvik was done in 1960 and the last one was made in 1988. A connection between the effected lichen and the sulphur dioxide emission as well as the distance from Domsjö factory was then made. The purpose of this study was to investigate if any change could be found in the population of pendoulus lichen in the vicinity of Domsjö factory, Örnsköldsvik, since the last study dating back to 1988. This study investigated the following facts; which are presence, length, and at what height on the trees the lichen Alectoria sarmentosa, Bryoria capillaris and Usnea spp. Only lichen on spruce, with trunks bigger than 150mm at breast hight were also included in the inventory. The results are based on data from 42 sites. No connection between the Domsjö factory, and the presence of Bryoria capillaris could be made, while Usnea spp. still seem to be affected. The length and the height of the investigated lichen did not seem to be affected; by the distance from Domsjö factory nor by the inventoried tree structures. No samples of Alectoria sarmentosa were found in the inventory.

I den fluktuerande digitaliseringsvågen har den fjärde industriella revolutionen eller Industry 4.0 initierat inom tillverkningsindustrin vilket påskyndar företag att anpassa och förändra hela verksamheter för att vara fortsatt konkurrenskraftiga. Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) har blivit en central del av denna förändring för tillverkningsföretag och kan förklaras som företag som utnyttjar enheter för att samla data i realtid och i sin tur gå mer mot den smarta fabriken. En rad olika möjligheter kan genomföras för industrier med uppgången av IIoT, även om framgången med denna förändring kan variera mellan olika företag beroende på storlek, resurser och ekonomisk stabilitet. Parallellt med möjligheterna uppstår även utmaningar för företag, särskilt små och medelstora företag, då dessa saknar ekonomiska resurser och storlek för att kunna omfördela och omvandla sin verksamhet. I denna studie har målet varit att skildra hur medelstora tillverkningsföretag hanterar implementeringen av IIoT och den smarta fabriken för att anpassa sig till det ständigt föränderliga tekniska paradigm som Industry 4.0 har introducerat. Slutsatser har dragits utifrån kombinationen av en teoretisk ram och intervjuer med sex svenska medelstora tillverkningsföretag. Digitaliseringsstrategier för tillverkningsföretag varierar beroende på bransch. Det finns emellertid enighet om att insatser för en digitaliserad produktion måste ske för att förbli konkurrenskraftig där automatisering, övervakning och kontroll av processer inom IIoT är nyckelfaktorer för att förbli konkurrenskraftiga. Tidsplanen och implementeringsnivån kan också variera beroende på digital kompetens och motståndskraft mot förändring från personalen. Viktigt att poängtera är att sambandet mellan IIoT, digitalisering och ökad konkurrenskraft inte är de enda faktorerna som krävs utan det finns fler faktorer att beakta. Studien pekar även på att konkurrensfördelar sällan är det främsta skälet till att företag väljer att digitalisera och implementera IIoT.
In the fluctuating wave of digitization, the fourth industrial revolution or Industry 4.0 in the manufacturing industry, has begun that has accelerated industries and companies to adapt and change their whole business to maintain competitive. Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has become a central part of this change for manufacturing companies and can be interpreted as companies taking advantage of units to gather real-time data and in turn, lean towards the smart factory. A range of possibilities can be accessed by industries with the rise of IIoT, though the success of this change can differ between different companies depending on size, resources, and economic stability. Parallel to the opportunities, challenges arises for companies, especially small and middle-sized enterprises, that lack the economic resources and scale to redistribute and transform their business. In this paper, the goal has been to distinguish how middle-sized manufacturing companies handle the implementation of IIoT and the smart factory in order to adapt to the ever-changing technical paradigm that Industry 4.0 has introduced. Conclusions have been drawn from the combination of a theoretical framework and interviews with six Swedish middle-sized manufacturing companies. The digitization strategy for manufacturing companies varies from industries. However, there is a consensus that efforts towards a digitized production must take place in order to stay competitive where automation-, monitoring-, and controlling processes within IIoT are main factors to stay competitive. The pace and level of implementation can also differ depending on digital qualification and resistance to change from the staff. Important to note is that the relation between IIoT, digitization and increased competitiveness is not the only factors that are significant as there are more things to consider. The study also shows that competitive advantages are rarely the main reason why companies choose to digitize and implement IIoT.

Given that the end-customer has become more demanding, the retailer has to deliver products according to the market demands, which have forced manufacturing companies to constantly search for new opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency. It is, therefore important to choose suppliers that are able to compete with the market demands.The market demands in the textile industry have lead to shorter product life cycles, which have caused manufacturers to deliver flexibility with high technology to compete successfully on the global market. To achieve the market requirements the underlying factor is to be aware and optimally use and control time. New technology can have a major influence in the production development, if the company choose to take benefit of the advantages, by optimal allocation of the internal resources the productivity and efficiency will increase, to accomplish a competitive advantage. One way to achieve this is by investing in a Unit Production System.In our thesis we have questioned what the main driving forces for an apparel manufacturing company is when it chooses to invest in new technology. Our previous knowledge says that manufacturing companies are forced to invest in a UPS to deliver to the market demands; therefore our sub-question investigates whether market demands impact the investment in new technology.In our theory we have concluded aspects in our study which is important for the reader to have an understanding of. We describe the textile industry from the view of Porters value chain and elaborate some concepts and their definitions, which will be used as a basis throughout our thesis. Finally we present a model of Five forces that determine industry competition made by Porter, to use as an analysis method when investigating whether an UPS may bring a competitive advantage.Our field study has been carried out in South India, where we have visited five textile factories and interviewed managers. We have questioned their decision-making judgment about implementing or choosing not to implement a UPS. Other production factors and general information about the companies have been asked to have an understanding of underlying factors. We have also had the opportunity to observe their manufacturing handling systems and seen how they have chosen to use this in an optimal way.Our previous knowledge of this subject has routed to that our research will be performed in a hermeneutics scientific approach. Our role as researchers has during the study been open-minded, subjective and committed according to a hermeneutics view.

The aim of this Master Thesis was to investigate the energy flows in the bleachery at Domsjö Fabriker AB and to create a calculation model that could be used in the future for energy audits. The main goal with this energy audit was to identify energy savings suggestions. To investigate the energy flows data has been analyzed from different measuring devices in the bleachery. The measuring devices measured mass flows, temperatures and the amount of solids in the flows. Assumptions where done together with knowledgeable engineers at the factory when data was lacking. To validate the energy flows a balance of mass flows where done to ensure that no unknown filtrate had been income or outcome from the bleachery. When the energy flows where determined a deeper investigation was done for the steam flows to identify energy savings. It resulted in two suggestions: recycle the steam condensate to reduce the steam flows and to liquidate the adding of lye in three big pumps to save electric energy.   The idea to recycle the steam condensate is to buy a heat exchanger that exchanges the steam condensate toward a flow with resin. Today the resin flow is heated with steam and the steam condensate leads to a drain. To determine if this was possible two cases where done. One case was when the pressure of the steam condensate was atmospheric and one case when the pressure was 7 bars. The result shows that this suggestion was possible for both cases. When the pressure was atmospheric extra steam needed to added but still the saving was around 200 000 SEK/year. When the condensate flow was 7 bars no extra steam needed and the savings was more than 485 000 SEK/year. The idea to liquidate the adding of lye in three big pumps is instead to lead the mass flow past the pumps. Instead the lye will be added in an existing centrifugal pump (MC-pump). To ensure that enough mixing obtained a chemical mixer could be purchased. This suggestion would increase the steam flow but save a lot of electric energy. The saving would be at least 1,06 million SEK/year. The conclusion would be that if Domsjö Fabriker decide to recycle the steam condensate and liquidate the pumps the saving would be 1,5 million SEK/year.

Der gegenwärtig vorhandene Gebäudebestand prägt entscheidend unsere urbane Umwelt und bestimmt maßgeblich deren Qualität. Darüber hinaus binden Bestandsgebäude wertvolle stoffliche und energetische Ressourcen, welche für deren Errichtung eingesetzt wurden. Der verantwortungsbewusste und zukunftsorientierte Umgang mit unserer Umwelt gebietet generell die Erhaltung dieser Ressourcen. Darin eingeschlossen sind die Meisten der zahlreich vorhandenen Bauwerke, die gegenwärtig ungenutzt brach liegen. Dies gilt in Ostdeutschland insbesondere für Fabrikgebäude. Es bedarf des grundsätzlichen Nachweises des diesen Gebäuden innewohnenden Wertes, welcher im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit geführt wird. Dabei werden auch bislang in der üblichen Betrachtung unberücksichtigte, allerdings wesentliche, Gebäudewerte qualitativ dargestellt, sodass damit eine Brache exakter und förderlicher bewertet werden kann. Darin kann der Schlüssel für eine zukünftig erfolgreichere Weiternutzung von Brachen liegen. Für eine erfolgsorientierte Projektentwicklung im Bestand ergibt sich mit der neu eingeführten „Methode des Strukturabgleichs“ zur Findung bestandskonformer Weiternutzungen eine neue praxisorientierte Herangehensweise. Beispielhaft werden dazu erste verschiedene Fabrikarten in ihrer Funktionsweise einschließlich der daraus resultierenden statischbaukonstruktiven Ausformungen analysiert und so Gebäudetypen definiert. Über die Festlegung maßgebender struktureller Gebäudeparameter werden für die typisierten Bestandsgebäude die zugehörigen Strukturdaten ermittelt, sodass der Abgleich mit den hauptsächlichen Eigenschaften heute nachgefragter Nutzungsanforderungen erfolgen kann. Die auf wesentliche Strukturdaten reduzierte und daher einfach handhabbare „Methode des Strukturabgleichs“ erlaubt Aussagen zur wirtschaftlich optimierten Bestandsaktivierung und ist damit auch eine Grundlage zur Minimierung statischbaukonstruktiver Eingriffe in die Bausubstanz. Die vorliegende Arbeit leistet damit einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Ermöglichung bestandskonformer Weiternutzungen brach liegender Fabrikgebäude und trägt so zur Erhaltung wertvoller baulicher Ressourcen sowie zur Verbesserung der urbanen Qualität unserer Umwelt bei.

The project has explored the topic Smart factory with main focus on the future production staff. The project aims to investigate how the production staff is affected by Volvo Cars Skövde Engine Plant (SkEP) becoming a Smart factory, in the era of Industry 4.0. The definition of the Smart factory is a demand of Mobile- and wireless technologies, Human-oriented, pursue a Flexible production with Sustainable manufacturing, as well as utilization of CPS (Cyber-Physical Systems), IoT (Internet-of-Things) and Cloud storage. The current situation and the future five to twenty years were examined in order to define the future production staff. This by conducting an observational study and several interviews. The studies’ results were that SkEP cannot be regarded as smart since several demands are inadequate by definition. Five years are considered too short of a time for the plant to fulfill the demands. However, according to the interviews and literature, SkEP are expected to become smart in twenty years after time refinement of existing technologies and implementation of new ones. The authors estimate Leadership, Information, IT and Production lay-out to be the areas that require the most effort. The future production staff are expected to be flexible with workplace, working hours and able to manage multiple variants. They should be included in self-supporting teams where every individual possesses an expertise, are motivated and participating. Production staff should perform complex, varied jobs with more responsibility by endorsement of decision support systems. The staffs’ competence should consist of technical education, high basic and lay-out knowledge and the ability to contribute to the collection of information and analyses. Interaction with technology is expected to expand and the personnel must therefore have a well-established comprehension of technology. The concept Smart factory is extensive and relatively new, which means that it is constantly evolving. Thus it is important for SkEP to be updated and adjust to the impact from the outside world.

This study examines the experiences of work related problems in regards to physical and mental health among industrial workers, and the experiences of how companies handle these problems. In this study, two industrial workers from one company have been interviewed, and they have shared their different, but intertwined stories. Prior research has shown that satisfaction with one’s job is important for the physical and mental well behind of the workers. It has also been shown that the general conduct of bosses and employees, in regards to work harassment, insults and rumours, can affect the workers’ health and motivation to perform well. The results from the interviews will show that the two participants’ stories corroborates what is being presented in previous research.

En uppförandekod är ett antal riktlinjer som ett företag eller en organisation ställer upp i syfte att tillse att deras verksamhet bedrivs på ett etiskt, socialt och/eller miljömässigt föredömligt sätt. Många företag använder sig av uppförandekoder för att implementera CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility)-arbete i den egna organisationen. För att CSR-arbetet ska bli trovärdigt måste uppförandekoderna även implementeras i leverantörs- och distributionskedjorna. När företag söker lägre produktionskostnader och använder sig av underleverantörer i låglöneländer, kan svårigheter med denna implementering uppstå. Svårigheterna beror till stor del på att företagen är separerade geografiskt, vilket i sin tur leder till affärskulturella, sociala, politiska, ekonomiska och legala skillnader. Trots detta bör detta CSR-arbete leda till att arbetsvillkoren för anställda i låglöneländer, såsom Kina, förbättras. Syftet med uppsatsen är att utreda vilken effekt implementerandet av västerländska uppförandekoder i en kinesisk fabrik har på de anställdas arbetstider. Arbetet omfattas av en teoristudie och en empirisk undersökning. Teoristudien behandlar uppförandekoder samt metoder och svårigheter vid implementering av dessa i asiatiska leverantörskedjor. Empirisk data har samlats in genom en kvalitativ fallstudie på en affärsuppgörelse. Affären är mellan en tysk stor varuhuskedja och en svensk leverantör med produktion i Kina. De metoder som används för implementering av uppförandekoder i leverantörskedjan är bland annat att upprätta skriftliga krav på underleverantören och kontrollera att dessa krav efterlevs. Interna och externa fabriksinspektioner är ett vanligt verktyg för detta. I den fallstuderade processen använder sig det tyska företaget av ett externt företag för att kontrollera att fabriken lever upp till villkoren i en global uppförandekod. Den empiriska studien bekräftar svårigheterna som beskrivs i teorin, affärskulturella skillnader gör systemet bristfälligt i ett kortsiktigt perspektiv.
Does the implementation of Western Codes of Conduct in Chinese factories, decrease the employees’ excess working hours? A code of conduct is a set of guidelines that a company or an organization set up in order to ensure that their operations are conducted in an ethically, socially and / or environmentally exemplary manner. Many businesses are adopting global Codes of Conduct to implement CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility)-work in the own organization. For the work to be credible, these Codes of Conduct must also be implemented in the supply and distribution chains. When companies seek lower production costs and turn to subcontractors in lowwage countries, difficulties may arise with this implementation. These difficulties are mainly a consequence of the companies being separated geographically, which in turn leads to business cultural, social, political, economic and legal differences. Nevertheless, these CSR activities should improve the working conditions for employees in low-wage countries, such as China. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate if the implementation of Western Codes of Conduct in Chinese factories has an effect on employees´ working hours. The thesis includes a study of existing theory and an empirical investigation. The theory covers Codes of Conduct, methods for implementing them in Asian supply chains, and the difficulties with this process. Empirical data were collected through a qualitative case study of a business deal. The transaction is between a German chain of “Do-it-Yourself”-stores and a Swedish supplier with production China. A common method for implementing Codes of Conduct in a supply chain is to establish written requirements for the subcontractor and verify compliance with these requirements. Internal and external factory audits are accepted tools for this verification. In the studied case the German company uses an external firm to verify that the Chinese factory meets the conditions of a global code of conduct. The empirical study confirms the difficulties described in the theory, businesscultural differences makes the system inadequate in short term.

Resumen
In this work, we investigate machine learning methods to predict the failures of progressive cavity pumps (PCP). The PCPs are located in a biogas plant, Den Magiske Fabrikken, in Norway, which is transforming food waste and animal manure to biogas and biofertilizer. Available measurements were pump on-signal, speed, current, torque and control signal, inlet flow, inlet pressure and outlet pressure, and several vibrations derived signals.Five categories were defined to categorize the operation of the pumps as: “stopped”, “normal running”, “7 days from failure”, “1 day from failure” and “1 hour from failure”. The objective was to train a Machine Learning model to predict these categories. The data was pre-processed to clean gross outliers and scale the signals using different techniques.This paper presents results from the same Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model using two different approaches for scaling the data. The results are evaluated using confusion matrices where one scaling method clearly improves the results when testing on new data points. Further work is presently being carried out to implement the selected methods in real-time and to generalize the model (Holm, 2022).

Gegenwärtig ist der Automobilkomplex in unserem Land im Großen und Ganzen durch eine große Anzahl schädlicher Emissionen von Fahrzeugen in die Atmosphäre gekennzeichnet (vergessen wir nicht die Fabriken, in denen sie hergestellt werden), die sich nachteilig auf die ökologische Umwelt des Planeten auswirken . Da der Verkehrskomplex eine dominierende Rolle in den Wirtschaftsbeziehungen der Welt spielt, kommt es nicht darauf an, ihn zu ersetzen oder zu beseitigen. Dies bedeutet, dass die einzig wahre Lösung für uns darin besteht, Motoren (die Hauptschadstoffe der Umwelt) umweltfreundlicher zu verändern und zu verbessern. Dieser Artikel untersucht die schädlichen Auswirkungen von Motoren und zeigt, wie dieses Problem gelöst werden kann.

Buchhalter und Wirtschaftsprüfer sind die wichtigsten Berufe der modernen Wirtschaft. Kein Unternehmen kann auf einen Buchhalter verzichten: Sowohl kleine Unternehmen als auch große Fabriken müssen Buchhaltungsunterlagen führen. Die Prüfung trägt dazu bei, die finanzielle Stabilität des Unternehmens sicherzustellen, Rechnungslegungsfehler zu identifizieren und zu beseitigen. Der Artikel konzentriert sich darauf, was unter Buchhaltung zu verstehen ist, warum Buchhaltung für Unternehmen wichtig ist und so weiter. Im Verlauf der Diskussion wurden die Vorgänge, die sich auf die Rechnungslegung von Unternehmen auswirken, die Ziele der Rechnungslegung, die Methoden zur Ermittlung des Gewinns geklärt und die Frage „Was ist unter Rechnungslegungspflichten zu verstehen?“ Wurde ebenfalls zu einer wichtigen Frage. Als Ergebnis der Untersuchung des Artikels wurde herausgefunden, was Buchhaltung ist. Es wird auch festgestellt, dass Buchhaltung und Buchhaltung im Alltag austauschbar sind.
