Texto completoThis thesis is at the intersection of musicology and artificial intelligence, aiming to leverage AI to help musicologists with repetitive work, such as object searching in the museum's manuscripts. We annotated four new datasets for medieval manuscript studies: AMIMO, AnnMusiconis, AnnVihuelas, and MMSD. In the second part, we improve object detectors' performances using Transfer learning techniques and Few Shot Object Detection. In the third part, we discuss a powerful approach to Domain Adaptation, which is auxiliary learning, where we train the model on the target task and an extra task that allows for better stabilization of the model and reduces over-fitting.Finally, we discuss self-supervised learning, which does not use extra meta-data by leveraging the adversarial learning approach, forcing the model to extract domain-independent features

Texto completoThe @title The Book of the life of the saints was chosen according to the lexicon adopted in the table of the collection of the manuscript and in the initial columns (sections) in each of the legends. These research works in edition of medieval texts consist of three parts : a first chapter is dedicated to a literary approach. It is about a study of the structure of the legendier having for objective to determine four sources to the original compilation which results from it (in six different sections), the place of the légendier in the whole of the collection, through the study of a logic of compostion (recruitment of the legends, the image conveyed by the holy selected players), the definition od a Christian message (manifestly female ?) A second chapter (shorter) is dedicated to the presentation of the language of the edited texts. It is about a linguistic study allowing to clarify the picarde's color of the scripta in the objective to familiarize a possible reader, to supply proportions of use of the raised linguistic phenomena and to establish links between texts stemming from diverse sources. The third chapter, which is the main one, dedicates itself to the edition of the text. It is introduced by principles and methods of edition which explain the editorial choices of the transcription towards the edition. Follows the current edition of twenty four legends, a glossary aiming not only at supplying a definition of the words and an exhaustive directory of their occurrences int he text, but also examples in context allowing to supply an immediate image of the meaning. A table of the proper nouns completes the work

Texto completoThe purpose of this thesis is to present a partial edition of a collection of pious salvation tales, known as « The Tombel de Chartrose » (tales n°1 to 15 and n°31). These texts were composed by an anonymous author, probably a secular clerc, between the years 1334 and 1337. They were dedicated to the Carthusian monastery of Bourgfontaine, located in Soisson’s diocese. The present work includes the study of the textual dossier (the first manuscript, which forms the basis of the edidtion, is kept in Avranches (n°244) and the second one in Paris – under quotation « New French Acquisitions 6835 »), the history of the monastery and a reflexion about collection notion. An analysis of the sources used by the author, with litterary references, are given in the notes. A glossary and a proper nouns index are also given to ease the reading of the text

Texto completoThis study focuses on the Regina Latina manuscript of 1363. It consists of a critical edition of L'Amant Rendu Cordelier a l'Observance d'Amours and a literary study. The critical edition is composed of various complementary stages : a presentation of the manuscript tradition; a study of the manuscript language (phonetics, morphology, syntax); an innovative lexical study; remarks concerning versification; a presentation of principles of the manuscript transcription (notably concerning the limited number of corrections, which reflects the quality of the chosen manuscript); variations of six other manuscripts; notes; a glossary; an appended transcription of a manuscript representative of the other group of manuscript (different from the edited one); an edition of the text following the R1 manuscript. As for the literary study, it first analyses the literary genre of the text which draws on the tradition of La Belle sans Mercy. This study considers the context, the combination of the sacred and the profane and medieval symbolism. Secondly, the literary study attempts to demonstrate the originality of the poem, operating beyond the limits of clichéd settings, codes of dialogue and stereotypical figures. Finally, the last part of the literary study highlights the aesthetic dimension of the poem which skillfully combines the "Je" and the "jeu" (that is to say the narrative voice, the speaker's position and the play of language), offering an innovative perspective, not only on the theme of love (love and relationships between men and women) but above all on poetic writing. All these elements contribute to making the poem resolutely modern and seductive
Leveque, Elodie. "Les reliures romanes de la bibliothèque de Clairvaux : étude archéologique et biocodicologique". Thesis, Paris 10, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020PA100027.
Texto completoThis research focuses on the study of Romanesque bindings from Clairvaux abbey’s library, which is the largest known Romanesque collection. Out of the 160 bindings studied, a series covered in sealskin drew our attention. While the Clairvaux collection retains the largest number of hairy chemises, the use of such material seems to have been widely employed by the Cistercian order during the 12th and 13th C. Although most of the collection would have been bound in the same way, only 18 Clairvaux bindings remain in their original state with their chemises almost intact. The chemises are described in modern catalogues as boar- or deer-skin. However, under magnified examination, the distribution of the hair follicle doesn’t match either animal. To try to identify the animal origin of the chemises we applied non-invasive proteomic and genomic analyses. Proteomic analysis identified the skins as belonging to pinnipeds. The use of seal skins in Champagne, at a considerable distance from the sea, is curious. In addition, there is no archaeological evidence of seal populations on the French coast in the middle ages. DNA sequences further resolved the geographical origin for six documents, suggesting an important trade in seal skins as a commodity, possibly at the Champagne fairs. The biocodicological study of the bindings helps us understand not only the extent of trading in which the Cistercians were involved but also the original physical appearance of the manuscripts. Clairvaux’s Romanesque collection also provides an opportunity to study bindings of external provenance, such as those made for Prince Henri in a city-based workshop, or limp travelling structures that give a broader idea of French Romanesque binding production of the time

Texto completoGuiron le courtois—a vast chivalric novel written in prose and composed of the Roman de Meliadus and of the Roman de Guiron—was copied, redrafted, compiled in various manuscripts since its creation spanning from 1235-1240 to the end of the Middle Ages. Its material allows all kinds of continuations which makes it a work with blurred outlines. The manuscript BnF fr. 340 (End of 14th-Beginning 15th Century) associates the Roman de Meliadus and the Compilation of Rusticien de Pise; it forms a whole in which can be seen wandering knights, namely the fathers of the great Arthurian heroes driven by violent fights and a desire to shed blood abundantly, but also by merry encounters and word exchanges. This thesis ends at analysing this lively community through the exploration of both text and imagery in the manuscript BnF Fr 340; this iconographic analysis leads to the study of new programs of manuscripts dating back to the same period
Deleville, Prunelle. "Métamophose des "Métamorphoses " : édition critique et étude littéraire des manuscrits Z de l’Ovide moralisé". Thesis, Lyon, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019LYSE2027.
Texto completoThe Ovide moralisé is the first French translation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. After each narration, the unknown author of the text offers a moralisation by giving allegories based on the four meanings of the Scripture. This text has been brought to us by almost twenty manuscripts, composed between the beginning of the 14th century and the end of the 15th century. A group among these manuscripts remarkably stands out: the group called Z in the stemma. It contains the followings codices: Berne, Burgerbibliothek, 10 (Z1) written after 1456; Paris, BnF, français 874 (Z2) produced in 1456; Paris, BnF, français 870 (Z3) composed around 1400 for the text and 1450 for the drawings; Paris, BnF, français 19121 (Z4) probably copied between 1390 and 1410. These four manuscripts present a real rewriting of the so called ‘original’ text. The new writer sometimes changes the narration of the fable, adds historical explanations and expresses a new conception of the Metamorphoses. The four manuscripts include all these changings, but Z3 and Z4 do not contain the religious and spiritual allegories, while these allegories have been reintroduced in Z1 and Z2.Our critical edition is based on Z3. It offers a linguistic, dialectical and metric study, an observation upon sources of the text, a glossary and an index. Our codicological work also helps to figure out who can read these manuscripts—with or without Christians allegories—and to understand the various shades of the intellectual and cultural life in the 15th century. Our literary commentary reveals the originality of this rewriting, in the esthetical, ethical and ontological ways. The rewriter rebuilds the text in order to expel the marks of spirituality. He insists on contemporarily appealing themes, proclaims his own opinion about love and women and tries to replace the ‘original’ author. Thus, his rewriting conveys the interests of a certain readership while it examines the kind of truth—concrete or spiritual—that can be accorded to the pagan narration of the Metamorphoses. Consequently, our work tries to sharpen our knowledge of the literary interests of the 15th readerships
