Brayer, Laure. "Dispositifs filmiques et paysage urbain : la transformation ordinaire des lieux à travers le film". Thesis, Grenoble, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014GRENH008/document.
Texto completoStarting from a consideration of the landscape, as it is configured daily by individual and collective practices which are supported by the landscape and from which the landscape is being shaped, this PhD thesis in architecture focuses on the ordinary transformation of places and questions the ways through which we can understand it in order to think out the becoming of these places. How can we take into account the dynamic of the ambiance in order to think about the design of a place? In that perspective, this research questions the scope of film (as a medium, as a practice and in its reception): what does filming allow us to understand of the ordinary transformation of places? This work investigates the potential of audiovisual images in terms of perception, representation and shared designing of urban public spaces. How can film facilitate the understanding of the states and transitions of the relationship between space and bodies – considering that bodies perceive and act at the same time? In order to study that question, a specific methodological protocol, open to heterogeneous uses of film for the understanding and the designing of cities, was worked out. It led us to the analysis of four frameworks: 1. Collecting and selecting existing films; 2. Observing a video project within the context of an urban study; 3. Filmmaking; 4. Experimenting film practice with architecture students. These four frameworks address the question of filmmaking in different ways: status and stakes of the use of film, involvement in fieldwork through film practice (involvement in space, in time and in relation with others), film postures and relations to the world. Secondly, our research raises the question of film reception. It is, then, from a collective experience of reception that film becomes the base of a dialogue between people who are invited to share and debate about their own experiences. The plurality of registers coming from the film reception and its discussion (what is sensible, perceptive, interpretive, critical and creative) becomes the base to work out a common design. From these considerations of the scope of film, it appears in the background that the sensible register and collective improvisations are of paramount importance in the understanding and designing of urban public spaces

Texto completoThe aim of this thesis is to study the making of a Christian landscape in Denmark during the period of Christianisation (8th-13th century), using a combination of textual, material, toponomastic and cartographic sources. The religious transition took place gradually, not imposed by the Christian neighbours, but by the gradual acceptance of the Christian faith by the elites. It involved social transformations that also had spatial consequences, modifying the form, practice and conception of spaces, places and landscapes. The aim of this research is to carry out a systemic analysis on a small scale, looking at historical Denmark in its entirety and breaking down the chronological and disciplinary boundaries (Protohistory and the Middle Ages; history, archaeology and geography) hitherto maintained in research. Divided into three chrono-thematic parts (missionary period, 'official conversion' and institutionalisation), the thesis sets out to understand the mechanisms and evolution of the establishment and sacralisation of places of worship and funerary sites, the forms of which vary from one period to another, as well as the development of pastoral territories. Ultimately, the aim is to determine whether the spatial and monumental expressions of Christianisation form part of a continuity or a break with the earlier pagan period, and whether there are similarities with the Christianisations carried out in Europe in previous centuries. This work is based on the development of several corpus of textual sources and inventories of monuments, objects and sites (ecclesiastical and funerary sites, liturgical objects, runestones with Christian characteristics, using cartographic production and GIS tools that place the sites in their context (biophysical occupation of the land and human occupation, roads, place names)
Dalmon, Sébastien. "Espaces et lieux de culte des nymphes en Grèce ancienne". Paris 7, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016USPCC105.
Texto completoThe common representation of the Nymphs often narrows them down to the condition of female deities of natural areas. This piece of work contemplates going beyond this somewhat reducing vision, by precisely assessing these deities’ relations with different types of places and spaces, and in doing so, tries to unfold their specific modes of action, including the mediation they operate within the ancient Greek polytheistic system. Part one endeavors to bring out various types of Nymphs and how they act in the spaces they inhabit in the traditional narratives known to literary sources, especially poetry (from the Archaic to the Hellenistic period, combining the Greek Anthology): water world (sources, rivers, wetlands, maritime space), rural spaces (mountains, caves, woods and forests, grasslands), remote locations (fringes of the world, underworld) or close to human beings (gardens, homes and the city space). Part two deals with Nymphs’ various places of worship (springs, caves, altars, urban and other sanctuaries), studying their diverse configurations, archaeological and epigraphic accounts, rituals put in context and divine associations one can discern (limited to mainland Greece up to Thessaly and the outstanding site of Delos). One may also have to look into the consistency–or occasionally, the disparity–of the Nymphs’ depiction in poetic sources, with the reality of cults and their location

Texto completoThis thesis aims at re-defining the French concept of« place of memory » as defined by Pierre Nora in the West Indian and African spaces through the relationship between literature and history. Indeed, slavery, colonisation and apartheid serve as a background to a wide range of representations of places of memory in West Indian and African literatures. This thesis is composed of three main sections. The first section provides some historical context that allows connecting Africa and Caribbean Islands. The second section scrutinizes the topographic aspect of the places of memory in various ways: toponymy, heterotopia, spaces of power and landscapes. The third section, which sheds light on the notion of figure of memory, focuses on the experiences of historical and fictional characters, which enable to define new kinds of heroism. To that extent, this study leads to think about the challenges of collective memory of people in a postcolonial background in which « memories war » spreads out
Souto, Egídia Marques. "Nuno Júdice ekphrastique : lieux, corps, paysage". Thesis, Paris 3, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014PA030109.
Texto completoNuno Júdice is one of Portugal's contemporary poets who has, during his entire literary career, held a privileged relationship with the arts. Even before his first published book, Noção do Poema(1972), the poet endeavored to communicate with the painted image. He establishes a subtle slippage between poetry and painting, but also between painting and poetry. He mines a universe of inseparable memories of the pictorial world. This singular and fecund dialogue with painting allows us to observe how ekphrasis becomes a process of transposition and a base for a profound reflection on the poetic 'how-to'. Our research thus concerns the ekphrastic relationships, which are woven through his whole work. We analyze, with a thematic approach, the means with which the poet brings painting to his writing in moving from one artist's studio to another. We start from two hypotheses: the first stipulates that for Nuno Júdice, painting is the means of linking the two arts, allowing the creation of an another painting from the poet's words; the second emphasizes that the practice of ekphrasis stimulates a possibility of retrieving memories. In our interrogation of the intersemiotic play and the poetry/painting analogies, we show that landscape, place and body articulate around one and the same principle. Is it perhaps, ultimately, about provoking feelings and reinventing the world?

Texto completoIn business law, contractual problems related to time often drew the attention of the lawyers but the location of contractual relations has rarely been subject to general and in-depth study. However, the extent of the subject is astonishing. Objectively, jurisdiction and applicable law are certainly the most obvious and not least interesting stakes in the contract’s places. Not generally known, the localisation of the various elements of the contract is reflected in the characterization of the whole of the contractual relation, and thus on the part of the obligations which it contains ; space even on which the contract takes effect influences the legal status of the events which proceed within its geographical area. Moreover, the contracting parties have an actual capacity vis-à-vis the places of their contractual relations, even if the freedom of expression of the parties’ will has many limits

Texto completoThis thesis deals with the making of urban public areas through the landscape focusing on two issues:- Through an epistemic approach of the landscaping project process, it intends to identify the conceptual founding principles characterizing a landscape-way of thinking the city, highlightening some paradigms that single it out: walk, map, garden.- Spotting out the risks and stakes involved in the “visibility crisis” that affects the public area nowadays in the double form of the co-presence modes that break down and of the dramatization of urban territories, it questions the new prospects opened by this new project culture to connect again political area and public areas. At the cross-road between aesthetics and politics, the making of public space can be the art to invent new processes of subjectification. The thesis considers the journeys and the tales, as raw materials to layout the areas establishing an emancipated audience; it explores some tactics of landscape writings

Texto completoThe sensitive and reasoned approach of the landscape makes it possible to reveal its functions, meanings and worth. From real places to imaginary horizons, from walking to the reading of archives, the landscape is looked upon, glanced at questioned and finally draw. Three approaches (industrial, domestic and local) are to be found in the last two centuries in the norman bocage ; the study each case and micro-scale are given greater importance, so as to save the utmost authenticity of human experiences in the places. The landscape of the bocage appears as the expression of a society and culture giving a greater importance to entrenchment. It also contributes to social reproduction, to the protection of the forbidden values, and to the own identification of this society

These texts deal with notions such as locus, landscape and nature. The mains purpose of this study are : 1) an exam of descriptions where these three notions seem to be associated with precises experiences concerning spatial reality : horizonq, i. E. Objects observed from a determined point at a specific moment in history. We try to define the organisation of spatial relationships between these objects. 2) the geographical approach, where observers try to recognize the spatial elements issued from the major physical constallations - human as well as natural -, is compared with others approaches. The structural qualities observed by geographers are diffenrenciated from those resulting from the analysis of less formalised ans more fragile spatial's unitites that allows to control emotional effects. 3) the critical evaluation of several transformations of the earth's surface resulting from the evolution of technical equipments - especially transports is considered through the modifications of vulnerable and subtle configurations such as landscape and locus

Texto completoThis thesis analyses firstly the setting up of space in the preparatory files of Les Trois Villes by Emile Zola. Thus we try to answer these following questions:According to which form is place set up? What are the transformations that space undergoes from one pre-text to another? What are the functions of that space and what is the relation between its setting up and the setting up of the characters and the plot? This study also aims at examining the displacement of characters in the final text of Les Trois Villes. This displacement takes place on different levels (local level, fictive level...) and by different means (look, speech, memory, imagination...). Finally, this thesis seeks to determine the different techniques of discribing places by analyzing the different "mecanisms" of the ambulatory description (mobile characters, figures of speech, enumeration...)

Texto completoThis thesis stems from the genesis at child age of the idea of Nature, a process that induces policies for land settlement, for space planning, or for the protection of nature. The first part accounts for the cultural dimension of the idea of nature, building upon a history of how nature has been taught about at school, the work of nature anthropologists, and a history of how landscape has been taken into consideration by town planning public research policies in France in the past 50 years. The conclusion of this part identifies the social demand for nature. The second part traces the genesis of the idea of nature in the child, who is totemist at his birth, then naturalist as soon as he feels himself loved, then animist when he thinks the world as finalized for the satisfaction of his needs. This part underlines the importance of education and living environment in the process of transformation of child’s naturalism into a less finalized representation of the idea of nature, and suggests it is of interest to accompany the affective foundation of the child’s representation of the world by a concrete and sensory practical experience. In the third and conclusive part, we invite the designers to walk down the path of living a wild idea of architecture and landscape planning and share it with their beneficiaries, in order to contribute to the necessary rebuilding of an idea of nature being territory-aware, concrete, and affect-responsible. This perspective is rendered by the proposal of setting up a National Landscape Plan aiming at building the landscape culture on new foundations, in particular for aesthetics

Texto completoThis dissertation reflects on nature writing in French-speaking contemporary literature. Drawing on a corpus of literary texts from Europe (Chevillard, Michon, Mingarelli, Ollier, Réda, Rouaud, Simon, Tesson, Trassard) and the Caribbean (Chamoiseau, Glissant, Maximin), the author examines how awareness of ecological peril determines literary geographies and the representation of space more generally. North-American ecocriticism offers a part of the theoretical framework, but recent findings in European ecopoetics prove to be more suitable to analyse literature in French. The study shows that ecological awareness entails a new worldview that invalidates pre-existing representations of space. Thus, exploring the wilderness does not longer lead the observer to celebrate the sublime landscapes that nature offers him. On the contrary, the encounter with the wilderness tends to be unsuccessful, and if it entails any sublime experience, it is equally a temporary and a fragile one. Likewise, the prehistoric narrative does not longer rely on the literary strategies of the traditional prehistoric novel: rather than to reconstruct a prehistoric time and to show the triumphant arrival of humankind as does the latter, the contemporary narrative conducts in the present an uncertain and troubled investigation regarding the significance of prehistoric human traces. Literary texts thus show the discrepancy between the relativity of human history and the permanence of geological time. They underline the need to reconfigure traditional representations of space and question the central position that humankind attributes to himself. Literature then promotes space as a plastic and mobile entity. The garden more precisely appears to be a motive that reconciles human efforts of planning and managing with the disorderly energy of nature. Contemporary literary aesthetics appear then to be determined by an ecopoetic mobility that signals a new empathy with the world

Texto completoThe study of the observatory of Toulouse, of its foundation in 1734 at the departure, in 1908, of Benjamin Baillaud, the director who completed the reforms of the third republic, allows to apprehend, through the various regimes of knowledge which are successively spread, the evolutions of a place of knowledge in its multiple dimensions. The changes of the figure of the astronomer, of the spaces of observation and the technical tools constitute a first axis of analysis to discern the historical process in progress. The examination of the scientific practices, of the gestures of the observer to the publication of the results, makes it possible to locate the processess of validation of the achieved results. Finally the Toulouse astronomers of the 18th and 19th centuries fit at the same time in the scientific community and the "garonnaise" city : by their will to be integrated into it, they reveal the access modes and the tensions which are established between science and the social request. The transition from a regime of knowledge to another is visible in each dimension of the place of knowledge. Partial continuities make it possible to establish the link and ensure the permanence of the observatory

Texto completoMyth, an essential element in zola's world, is well known to specialists; on the contrary, the study of landscape is usually neglected, or intepreted only from the stand point of relationship between literature and the history of art (zola as an impressionnist or an expressionnist artist). Following on the writer's declarations about the irruption of nature in his work, we first noticed, in the early writings and in the contes et nouvelles, under the title of loci zoliani, some archetypes (sea and sea shores, country sides, gardens, etc), associating feminine and masculine images, affectivity processes, feelings of happiness or anxiety. Then, in a second part entitled microcosmes, we tried to study in detail a more limited corpus, vomposed of seven literary landscapes, of which the characteristics would be, on the representational level, enclosure, intense role of vegetation, complex design, and itinerary of the characters; and which, on the symbolic level, would constitute prohibitive areas, where those crossing them are separated from each other by society, religion, incest taboo, ordeath. After having analysed topology and signification of space in the inconscious, we have finally organized our conclusions around four themes: constitution of space, progression through space, symbolism of space, and role of space, not only as an "actant" and as a place of mythical resolution of conflicts, but also as a means of catharsis for the writer

Texto completoThis investigative work explores how Glissant’s words combine with the plastic lan-guage. Édouard Glissant's relationship with the visual arts is intimate, sensitive. In La Cohée du Lamentin (2005), for example, the writer offers his reflections on artists from Latin Ameri-ca and the Caribbean, whose aesthetics he has studied or who personally frequented : the Cu-bans Wifredo Lam, Agustín Cárdenas and Jorge Camacho ; José Gamarra, the Uruguayan ; Roberto Matta, the Chilean ; Seguí, the Argentinean ; Pancho Quilici, the Venezuelian. For Glissant, artistic creation is reflected in a poetic relationship to the space-world, through a topographic dimension where dream or real places are printed. The poet invites us to think of creation in relation to the primordial energies, where the sites of genesis and of digen-esis keep traces, memories, passages, the contacts of the imaginary, from which the unpredict-able, which initiate novelty. The imaginary of the world is created, develops in a complexity where the senses, the visions of the world are mixed together, through the multiple sensitivi-ties. We discover that the poet’s writing echoes the field of the plastician, but his writing is also developed through contact with paintings and sculptures or through exchanges with his plasticians friends. Writing is consistent with the plasticity of shapes, colors, materials, creat-ing a sensitive, even fusion, relationship to places and landscapes

Texto completoBecause of the discordancy between the chromatic architectural strategies put forward in Iran during two of its most recent phases of modernization and Iran’s broader geographic and cultural context, I have set out to question the specificity of the sense of colour and its role in Persian spatiality. Can colour still be considered a structural factor in a city faced with the current trend towards uniform built environments? If I have focused my analysis on Ispahan from a historical and theoretical point of view, it is because traditional urban planning as well as the contemporary transformations of the city encompass a significantly broad and transversal sample of the entire Persian and Iranian society. If the point of departure of my work has been to analyse the sense and value of the relationships between contemporary Persian colour(s) and architectural and urban spaces, my point of arrival, and main thesis after many years of research, consists in saying that the optic and haptic effects of colour in architectural and urban spaces depend fundamentally on the interpretation that is given to depth. How can we understand this complex concept and its urban development usage in a Persian cultural context? It is following this logic that I will try to develop a new perspective on the third dimension and its expression by means of the use of colour, within both the understanding of Ispahan’s inhabitants, and the city’s actual urban development projects

Texto completoMy thesis questions the links that may bind different kinds of movies together following a certain type of space : the place. As such, I will base my research on the works of historians, geographers and art historians in order to establish a link between representations of places and monuments, and the apparition of cinematograph. This link is functional and discursive: many intellectuals see in the nascent cinematograph the apt media for the production of patrimonial pictures. Henceforth, this work would like to question new works, among which the movies of John Ford directed in Monument Valley, those directed by Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet from 1975 to 1980, along with the movies of Tariq Teguia, are to be found. My objective is to understand the way this patrimonial « cultural series » could be reinvested in very different corpuses. The iconological method, applied to spatial representations, will allow me to show figurative and conceptual links in movies that belong to different historical contexts

Texto completoThese past years, a change of attitude towards mining territories can be felt. Long seen as derelict or even ruined, those territories are now perceived as important historical witnesses and are, therefore, preserved as heritage landscapes. In 2012, for example, the Nord-Pas de Calais Mining Basin was included in the World Heritage List as an organically evolved cultural landscape. Having unique characteristics, mining landscapes are also requalified, in certain regions , as touristic attractions. They then become , just as natural landscapes are today, vectors of economic growth. The mine, harnessed for its natural ressources, is now assigned new values and, as well, new roles. Indeed, who would have thought that it would one day be managed and planned the same way beautiful landscapes are ? Conveying this new attitude towards mining sites , more and more photographers, from all backgrounds, represent them as landscapes. Artists , for example, showcase their wide range of shapes through esthetic images. With the advent of the digital era and online photography sharing, the amateur photographer , who is always searching for spectacular places to photograph , reclaims this type of representation. Disseminated on the web in an ever - increasing number, these photographies do not only attest of a new way of seeing mining territories as landscapes, but without a doubt also shape their perception. This research aims mainly at better understanding the spread of a new way of perceiving mining sites as landscapes . Since the photographic image stands as a witness and possibly as an actor of this phenomenon , it is used as the connecting piece to examine how mines can become landscapes. Focusign on the province of Quebec , this thesis analyses the practices through which mining sites are modeled and converted into landscapes, like patrimonialization, tourism development and nature restoration. These pratices, taking part in a process called empaysagement minier (mining landscaping), are then examined through photography and the landscape archetypes it produces. The photographic image quickly reveals itself as influencing not only the way we see mining sites, but it also seems to guide the way they are reappropriated and inhabited once they are perceived as landscapes . Therefore, photography and planning of mining territoires both reveal themselves as being more and more landscape oriented .

Texto completoMohsin Hamid and Hari Kunzru have been widely acclaimed figures of the transnational literary scene since the 2000s, and their fictions have often converged since then around the experience of place. This thesis proposes to read this shared writing pattern as a po/ethics, involving both poetics and ethics, in the sense that it demonstrates the two novelists’ desire to confront within works of fiction the real-life events that have upended the relation to place in the early twenty-first century – from 9/11 to Brexit, but also migration and climate change – while simultaneously playing on narrative voice, metalepsis and overlapping to represent the ubiquity of the contemporary sense of place. In doing so, they also relentlessly question the categories of nation or origin ascribed not only to imaginaries of place, but to the writers themselves, and accordingly display inspirations from a variety of sources in the British, American, as well as Pakistani and Indian literary canon. Because they often resort to dialogic forms, these narratives also seem to interrogate readers constantly about their own relations to place and their own role in the making of common places. These also include literary common places – topoi – in the sporadic references to the fable, to horror or, more frequently, to speculative fiction. From Pakistan to London via Berlin and the Mojave Desert, these narratives of globalisation offer new perspectives for a situated, attentive reading of the multiple attachments formed and reformed with place. The analysis focuses on the entirety of the two writers’ fictions to date, and also includes interviews conducted with Hari Kunzru

Texto completoThis dissertation examines American Civil War photography, notably its relationship with the environment. The images from the conflict are placed into their cultural context and are considered as elements of non-discursive rhetoric. One part looks at the difficulty of photographing the Wilderness region of Virginia. Another chapter looks at the possibility of making a portrait by substituting a landscape for an absent body. The dissertation also investigates the use of these images after the war, raising issues of memory and photographic truth. A final chapter concerns the photography of ruins and tries to understand how these ruins establish a lasting manner of looking at destruction

Texto completoThe aim of this thesis is to understand political power in Mauritania by studying its spatial patterns. Moorish tribes who control the state are all linked to a place in the country. Their power is based on their ability to bring these places nearer to political centers. Political power results from relationships between tribes within state institutions. The capital Nouakchott is a central place for such institutions but it is not a center ruling over a periphery. Since the position of tribes in state institutions fluctuates, spatial location and situation of the places to which they are attached are also mobile. Thus, the ability to modify space is a way to control political power just as the control of political power makes it possible to alter space

Texto completoStatically, in Haute-Saône, vine growing in today a marginal culture. Nevertheless that region is full of vine prints like micro-parcels for hobby; front trellised vines, vine grower architecture or constructions, feasts, lieux-dits or local dictum in relationship with vine ... Taking ail those vine prints into consideration leads to believe that vine growing is not such a marginal culture. As a matter of fact, vine vestiges or sorne practices of everyday Iife remains to an important vine-producing past. Until the beginning of the XXè century, it used to take an important place in those countries. Vine producing economy's disappearing is often explained as a consequence of phylloxera. ln fact, it is necessary to examine dynamics that leads to a no longer valid production system. Vine growing turns away from commercial production to specialize in subsistence farming production. It is still an essential component of everyday life for those countries' inhabitants. As for as knowhow and practices which have reference to vine are full of remembrance, of things which have been lived through, and of an emotionallink, it enables to built a sort ofidentity for people of this area. At last, this object of study, even if it looks Iike marginal, opens on values of identity, remembrance and territory

Texto completoOur thesis studies the landscape and the poetic image at Ilarie Voronca, Benjamin Fondane and Henri Michaux, by following the common thematic elements and the artistic specificities of those writers from the perspective of the comparative literature. The first part of our thesis, "Composition / decomposition of the self by the image" presents the distinctive features of the self (changeable, multiple) and its influence on the poetic images. The self is ambiguous and its discontinuity transmits to the text a tension which reaches its maximum when associated with the emptiness. The second part "The eternal and impossible voyage" concerns the numerous values of the movement which governs the constant change of the poetic landscape, the motivations of the choices related to the voyage and the evolution of the imagination according to this topic. We also study the relation voyage-life-text and some figures of representative travellers for the texts of the three authors - Plume, Robinson, Ulysses. The voyage is made in different regions of the real and the imaginary world, with temporary incursions into the memory and it appears in various forms, as the escape, the simple discovery or the adventure. The third part, “Ways of living, ways of looking at” approaches the problem of the image in a more theoretical way, with the analysis of several related terms and their impact on the texts. A fundamental relationship is the one established between the landscape and the space, at the physical and psychic levels. The glance becomes a creative agent of the literary text, functioning as an organ of perception and as a genuine aesthetic filter

Texto completoThis thesis aims to analyze the various strategies of religious and secular actors in their process of production of sacred spaces in Beirut, Lebanon. The eighteen Lebanese religious communities present in the country each mark Beirut’s urban landscape with religious symbols and signs that are also very often politically charged. Our assumption is that religious space cannot be limited to just religious buildings; in Beirut, it is expressed by taking over public spaces, transforming easily accessible secular loci into sacred space that imposes rules and specific codes of behaviour. In the city, religious events are expressed through spiritual, cultural, social and architectural venues. Beirut is a marked space with ideological symbols merging politics and religion with both leading to the sacred. The use of religion by the media working for political parties is a common practice for each and every community; thus, each quarter of the city is marked by a particular political ideology that reflects the religious identity of its inhabitants through specific codes and signs. They vary according to their position and time-frame. The religious affiliations of the majority of the inhabitants of a particular region impose religious codes that mark particular public spaces. This geography is rendered more complex by the particular religious calendars observed by each religion. Sacredness begins and ends on specific dates for each religion, producing specific spaces produced, recognized and used differently by the various segments of the city’s population. These would lead to confirm that the city is a cleaved space observable at all scales

Texto completoThe subject of this thesis refers to durassian fiction, her novels of the asiatic cycle : "Un Barrage contre le Pacifique", "Le Ravissement de Lol. V Stein", "Le Vice-Consul", "L'Amant / L'Amant de la Chine du nord" and the cinematographic produce "India Song". These texts have their setting in India-China or Indian where the teller has lived during her girlhood. But this study is not a bibliographical investigation. No matter if Marguerite Duras's writings tell truth or litterary lie. We are interested about the real space's transposition in the novels ; how has M. Duras distributed every places in the fiction's spaces ? How and why has she figured child's world samehow or other ? So this thesis try to prove that the space's figuration or metaphorization in the asiatic cycle novels frequently uses the ravishing's topic. We can also call it, rape, rapture, delight, even ecstasy. All the durassian spaces are showed through these different matters being ravished or teared away. It appears that M. Duras has created a veritable rhetoric of the ravishing with her descriptions, using many figures of speech, like metaphor or a style of allegory. Seas, rivers, mountains and forests symbolise destruction, loss, ruin and failure. In this asiatic space, there's a figure, a character which makes oneself prominent : the mother. M. Duras has been affected by this woman, feme covert. How could we discover the durassian production by forgetting the great character of the mother ? It's impossible. Marguerite Duras's texts, concerning this epoch, tell the sad and pathetic story of the "mother of china" , like the teller used to say. The space's representation keep inside the disastrous, the calamitous mother's action: daming a sea, fighting against the Pacific in order to help and give rice to the chinese population and all the children which were starving in the plain. The motherly image means both cruelty and softness , love and hate. That is why the durassian writing is so complicated and doubtful. Finally this subject will induce us to understand her personal mythe, by exploring her "camera obscura" : something that becomes violent and silent, like a travel in a wild country

Texto completoThrough the thesis Back view(s) : photography as identity and creation space, I question my photographic practice through the phenomenology of the gaze, while facing an obsession, the desire to see my own back and the back of the others. Starting from my own body as a source of experimentation, I express the need to exist in a different way through this part of my body that remains invisible to my own gaze. This search for recognition leads me towards developing artistic protocols, to face the other from the back. While I am traveling through space and meeting the unknown, I create different spaces of reflection. The back becomes the subject being photographed and observed, the starting point of my theoretical and aesthetic research, as well as the foundation that I build with the world of art and the others. As an interface, the view of the back seems to provide a look onto an anthropological and artistic place or territoriality, suggesting another way of being, seeing and thinking the world

Texto completoComing from the world of landscape practice, I could not ignore the dialectical movement that develops between the physical experience of space and its representation. The research is organized from trips and detours about concrete spaces and sometimes external theoretical proposals from the field of landscape practice. It is through this dual component that the landscape and its representation in situ : the garden, or its representations, will be explored. The approach is not culturalist, in the sense that this word has taken in the debate of contemporary ideas. It is nonetheless articulated to a strong presence of culture in understanding the phenomena related to the landscape. This position allows both the criticism of a formalism pressed ona powerful "picturialism", and a new naturalism just born and alreadyacademic who tries, unsuccessfully, the criticism of it, and fall however intothe same trap of a form declined from a dogma, geometric on one side andecological on the other, without consider the relationship of the applicationof this dogma to the bodies that inhabit spaces. The initial input by the picturesque category is not abandoned. In fact, unknown to us more often, the picturesque's features give us the foundation for our aesthetic judgment on pictorial or gardened representations of nature. Contemporary forms of the picturesque are then described as operators to our space practices. Today it is the link between experience and representation that I try tobring to light to show what I have called "le libre parcours."

Texto completoEngaging reflection on places or space, in a novel, is very important, but also very difficult, because it is at all textual levels. It is to approach a system of relations in which all the elements which forge it are interdependent and whose functioning creates meaning. This is why, when we try to understand a novel. We must not simply describe the places; we must go beyond and grasp what organizes space and gives it meaning. It must be recognized that the designated place is never a neutral or insignificant element. This evidence appears strongly in the reading of the art work. Talking about places at Le Clézio, it is to speak of a complex space, with multiple dimensions, it is, in fact, reflect on the relations that the text institutes between all its elements and which contribute to give meaning to the narrative. From this point of view, there emerges from the Leclozian work a recurrence from one book to another of a few places drawn from the experience of the writer. Bearing testimony of a time and described in a poetic way. These places can be divided into three spaces: the Desert, the City, the Sea. These are the obsessional themes of Le Clézio that can be found by browsing his literary production. These three subjects would carry in them a duality: nature opposed to civilization. The Clézio is attracted by the vast expanses, by the immense and unlimited spaces, these original places, where everything is pure, unused by the duration of time and not marked by human action: it is the desert, it is the sea.To these mythical spaces is opposed the western civilization incarnated by urban society, a society depicted negatively: space divided, divided into neighborhoods, urban society, that is to say the city, reflects social divisions and inequalities. It represents the place where men are confined, deprived of contact with nature and with others, and where the dislocation of the person who enters or feeds himself is organized this dichotomy between two worlds suggests that there can be no compromise between nature and humanity except through the abandonment of all social responsibilities and characteristics. But nothing is less certain. On the contrary, we believe that the Leclesian thought has several levels of reading and raises a dichotomy between two worlds, which suggests that there can be no compromise between nature and humanity except at the price of the abandonment of all responsibilities and social characteristics. But nothing is less certain. "Is it true that Le Clezio tries to introduce us into a universe split in two: one good, the other bad? - Do we rather assume a poetic approach to places? - Is not the purpose of Le Clézio to paint his vision of the world? - And if the Leclozian work is finally an autobiography. It is the object of this work to bring an answer to these questions
