Resumen
I examined message appeal in green policy communication by clarifying the moderating roles of environmental hyperopia and individual differences in environmental locus of control. The results suggested that a guilt appeal had a greater effect in 2 conditions, that is, when a global issue was promoted to consumers with an external locus of control, or when a local issue was promoted to consumers with an internal locus of control. Guilt appeals were no more effective than nonguilt appeals when a local issue was presented to individuals with an external locus of control. The guilt appeal backfired in that, when a global issue was promoted to individuals with an internal locus of control, the nonguilt appeal was more persuasive than the guilt appeal. Implications for researchers, nonprofit marketers, and public policymakers are discussed.

Resumen
Students’ behavior related to environmental protection and conservation is very important to discuss. Action pro-environmental every people, through the change of daily habits and behavior, is needed to decrease environmental problems and promote a clean, healthy, and unpolluted environment. This study aims to analyze the locus of control’s effect and attitude toward pro-environmental behaviours’ effect on the students’ pro-environmental behavior. This study uses an online survey method. A total of 386 respondents were collected. Therefore, the sample in the study amounted to 386 respondents. We used quantitative and structural equation modeling methods to examine the hypotheses. The data were processed by Amos software version 23. This study found that locus of control affects the attitude toward pro-environmental behavior. The locus of control and attitude toward pro-environmental behavior also positively affect students’ pro-environmental behavior. We invented that attitudes toward pro-environmental behavior did not mediate the effect of students’ locus of control on the pro-environmental behaviours of the students. The suggestion to improving the students’ locus of control and attitude related to the environment to gain and enhance the students’ pro-environmental behavior. The originality or value of this study gives a new insight into understanding the interaction between students’ locus of control and attitude toward the environmental behavior of the students in Indonesia.

Resumen
The objectives of this study were to examine an interdisciplinary and experiential approach to environmental education by use of a youth gardening program for third through fifth grade students. In addition, this study evaluated the gardening program's effectiveness on promoting positive environmental attitudes and a high environmental locus of control with children. A questionnaire was developed from three existing instruments and was used to collect information concerning environmental attitudes, locus of control as it related to environmental actions, and demographic information of respondents. No statistically significant differences were found on either variable in comparisons of experimental and control group responses. However, students from both groups exhibited positive environmental attitudes. Demographic comparisons indicated that children with previous gardening experience scored significantly higher on the environmental attitude and environmental locus of control statements when compared with children without gardening experience. Girls scored significantly higher than boys on environmental attitude and environmental locus of control scores. Caucasians scored significantly higher when compared with African-Americans and Hispanics on environmental attitude scores, and Caucasians scored significantly higher when compared with African-Americans on environmental locus of control scores.

Resumen
Locus of control is a crucial factor in pro-environmental behavior. However, studies on pro-environmental behavior investigating the predisposing factors of internal locus of control are limited. Therefore, the objective of this study further explored the predisposing factors of locus of control and revealed that emotional stability may be a predisposing factor for internal locus of control and pro-environmental behavior. A questionnaire survey was conducted in Taiwan (n = 473) and the responses were explored using structural equation modeling path analysis. The results revealed that emotional stability can promote pro-environmental behavior through the mediation effect of internal locus of control, indicating that emotional stability is a predisposing factor for locus of control-generated pro-environmental behavior. Thus, the study results indicated that people with higher emotional stability and a stronger internal locus of control are more likely to engage in pro-environmental behavior. Hence, to promote pro-environmental behavior through environmental protection education, people’s self-control awareness must be strengthened to enable them to remain calm and peaceful.

Resumen
Abstract Negative emotions within the context of environment such as eco guilt and eco grief help individuals understand their impact on the environment and motivate them to act favorable to the environment. Antonovsky’s Salutogenic theory, specifically the sense of coherence model consisting of 3 components, namely, Comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness has been used as a foundation for explaining the concept of eco-guilt, eco-grief, environmental locus of control and pro-environmental behavior in adolescents. This paper aims to examine the relationship between eco-guilt, eco-grief, environmental locus of control and pro-environmental behavior among adolescents. The Eco guilt questionnaire, Eco grief questionnaire and Adolescent Internal Environmental Locus of Control Questionnaire were administered to the subjects to measure the prevalence of eco guilt, eco grief, and environmental locus of control, respectively, and General Ecological Behavior scale was used to assess pro-environmental behavior. Upon analysis, it was found that eco-guilt, eco-grief, and environmental locus of control shared a positive association with pro-environmental behavior among adolescents. Moreover, eco-guilt, eco-grief, and environmental locus of control were found to predict pro-environmental behavior among adolescents. Further investigation may be conducted to deepen the understanding of the relationship between eco-guilt, eco-grief and environmental locus of control and pro-environmental behavior.

Resumen
This study tested a model in which pro-environmental attitudes mediate the association between personality traits (locus of control and future orientation) and pro-environmental behavior. Two hundred and thirty participants completed measures of the above concepts and provided information about demographic variables known to be associated with pro-environmental behavior. Path analysis supported a double mediation model in which future orientation and pro-environmental attitudes (in this order) mediate the association between locus of control and behavior. Of the demographic variables, only age was directly associated with behavior. The results are discussed in light of the theory and previous findings. Keywords: future orientation, locus of control, mediation model, personality, pro-environmental behavior.

Resumen
Food waste is one of the most abundant materials contributing to landfills in the United States. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates 96% of uneaten food ends up in landfills. Food and other organic wastes generate potent greenhouse gases in the atmosphere precipitating global climate change. College campus cafeterias generate a large amount of food waste and some universities are making efforts to capture and compost food waste. The purpose of this study was to measure the relationship between participation in a university composting program and students’ environmental attitudes, environmental locus of control (refers to the belief that an individual’s actions play a direct role in the result of any affair), compost knowledge, and compost attitudes. Undergraduate and graduate students were given a survey, which included an environmental attitude scale, an environmental locus of control inventory and sections where students reported their composting habits, knowledge of the composting process, and how composting made them feel. A total of 660 surveys were collected from two universities, one that acted as the treatment and the other as the control group. The results indicated a statistically significant difference between the school with a composting program and the school without a composting program on the variables of environmental attitudes, environmental locus of control, and composting knowledge. Furthermore, composting attitudes were positively related to environmental attitudes, environmental locus of control, and compost knowledge at the university with a composting program. Demographic comparisons found differences within the treatment group on the composting attitude and knowledge and environmental attitude inventories but not locus of control.

Resumen
SummaryPromoting environmentally conscious behaviour requires an understanding of the complex cognitive mechanisms by which people decide to act environmentally. Research suggests that locus of control (LOC), or the extent to which a person feels his or her own actions can produce broader change, is an important predictor of environmental behaviour; however, little is known about how LOC interacts with other cognitive motivators. This study uses a nationwide survey from China to test whether LOC moderates the effect of environmental attitudes on behaviour. Respondents with external LOC (i.e., those who believe personal actions cannot produce change) reported lower pro-environmental behaviour than those with internal LOC (i.e., those who believe personal actions can produce change). In addition, the influence of environmental attitudes on pro-environmental behaviour was stronger among respondents with external LOC than those with internal LOC. These results support efforts to promote conservation in China by promoting internal LOC and add a novel suggestion that attitude-based messaging is more efficacious among audiences with external LOC.

In the present study was examined the effects of locus of control and task complexity on perceptions of task characteristics by 110 business undergraduates. Individuals with an internal locus of control perceived more skill variety, task significance, autonomy, and feedback than individuals with an external locus of control when working on a complex task. It is argued that external scorers are less responsive to environmental cues under conditions of high task complexity.

Resumen
Purpose – Marketers have realized the importance of assessing consumers’ willingness to pay (WTP) before introducing green products across different target audience. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relative influence of consumers’ pro-environmental behaviours (PEBs) and environmental locus of control (ELOC) on their WTP for green products. Design/methodology/approach – The study sample consisted of 256 Indian consumers which were recruited with the help of convenience sampling. A structured questionnaire was administered with scales that were well established and that have been used in previous research. Data were analysed with the help of CFA and structural equation modelling to test the relationship of ELOC and PEB anon WTP. Second, clustering respondents according to their PEB and ELOC has been done to find its differential effect on WTP with the help of multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). Findings – Findings of the study highlight that WTP for green products is significantly predicted by two variables which are in following order: PEB and ELOC. Results of cluster analysis and MANOVA revealed that WTP differ significantly with the level of intensity of ELOC and PEB among Indian consumers. Research limitations/implications – It advances the body of knowledge centred on the interplay of the PEB and ELOC to WTP for green products. Additional work is clearly required to consider the wide range of potentially relevant variables like brand image, prices, advertisements and product quality that ensures the generalizability of findings. Practical implications – The hypothesis framed, tested and inferences made can form a basis of extremely valued toolkit for those green marketers who take caution when planning their marketing and communications strategies to stimulate the WTP by conveying a reason and motivation to act environmentally. Originality/value – In this study, an understanding of WTP for green products is developed. The much required knowledge gap in terms of interplay of ELOC and PEB on WTP has been filled with the help of the present study. It has been identified that those consumer groups who displays higher PEB and ELOC forms the primary target audience for green product marketer.

This study aims to identify how certain factors, such as internal environmental locus of control and environmental insight, can influence pro-environmental behavior. The research method used involved collecting data through questionnaires distributed via Google form to 100 students from tertiary institutions in the city of Surabaya. The sample in this study was selected through an accidental sampling technique, which means that the respondents were selected by accident according to their availability. The data obtained from the questionnaire will be analyzed using multiple linear regression techniques. Multiple linear regression is used to identify the relationship between several independent variables (in this case, internal environmental locus of control and environmental insight) to the dependent variable (pro-environmental behavior). The results of multiple linear regression analysis can provide information about the significant influence of the internal environmental locus of control and environmental insight on pro-environmental behavior

Resumen
BACKGROUND Students from various backgrounds and places join graduation courses in Dentistry. The environmental influence on them is varied. Academic self-concept also has been found to be a significant predictor of students’ academic achievement in the college resulting in an increase in the grade point average of the students. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between the student and their academic relationship to the environment in the dental school which is the internal and external locus of control. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study. The method of collection of data is through a questionnaire. The questionnaire had details related to the demographic data of gender and year of study in the dental school. Questions on locus of control have been adapted from the Rotter’s Locus of Control Scale. Statistical analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS version 23. Chi square test was used to test the associations between the variables and a value of < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS 402 participants including students from 2nd year to internship filled the survey questionnaire. In general, majority of the participants displayed a higher external locus of control. CONCLUSIONS The study participants who responded showed more external locus of control compared to the internal locus of control. Strategies should be planned and tailored to improve student support and student education. They should include a very comprehensive orientation to the students including both long term and short-term objectives. Resumen
Training in the neurolinguistic programming techniques of shifting perceptual position, visual-kinesthetic dissociation, timelines, and change-history, all based on experiential cognitive processing of remembered events, leads to an increased awareness of behavioral contingencies and a more sensitive recognition of environmental cues which could serve to lower trait anxiety and increase the sense of internal control. This study reports on within-person and between-group changes in trait anxiety and locus of control as measured on the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Wallston, Wallston, and DeVallis' Multiple Health Locus of Control immediately following a 21-day residential training in neurolinguistic programming. Significant within-person decreases in trait-anxiety scores and increases in internal locus of control scores were observed as predicted. Chance and powerful others locus of control scores were unchanged. Significant differences were noted on trait anxiety and locus of control scores between European and U.S. participants, although change scores were similar for the two groups. These findings are consistent with the hypothesis that this training may lower trait-anxiety scores and increase internal locus of control scores. A matched control group was not available, and follow-up was unfortunately not possible.

Resumen
This study assessed the effects of a one-day environmental education program on sixth-graders’ environmental literacy at a nature center in eastern Taiwan. In this program, the use of role play and games for teaching about Formosan black bear and forest conservation was adopted. A nonequivalent control group design was used to collect data. The experimental group (N = 100) received the one-day environmental education program and the control group (N = 73) did not receive any environmental instruction. The ANCOVA results indicated that students’ environmental knowledge and locus of control were effectively improved by the end of the program. Besides, students in the experimental group showed a lower utilization preference than students in the control group. One month after the end of the program, the present study discovered retained effects on students’ environmental knowledge, environmental responsibility, locus of control, and environmental action. Moreover, students in the experimental group showed a higher preservation and a lower utilization preference than those in the control group in the follow-up test. Based on this study, implications for program development and instructional practice were presented.

Resumen
Environmental problems cause threats to the environment, such as global warming, urban air pollution, clean water crises, environmental noise and loss of biodiversity. This problem is caused by human behavior. Resolution of environmental problems can be done by community or private components, one component of community is students. The effort that can be done is to increase intention to act on the environment. This study aims to determine the effect of locus of control and personality on students' intention to act. Research conducted at SMA Negeri 31 Jakarta on the Semester I of the 2019/2020 school year. The method used is the survey with quantitative-causal causal approach and path analysis. The samples used were 99 students of class XI IPA. The reliability coefficient of Locus of control (X1) is 0.680, Personality (X2) is 0.759, and Intention to Act (X3) is 0.878. Based on the results, it can be concluded that personality is not good as a mediator variable between the locus of control and intention to act. Resumen
Purpose The purpose of this study is to segment young millennials in an emerging economy based on their environmental attitudes and purchase intentions. The study also attempts to describe the segments and highlight their differences in terms of happiness, frugality, environmental locus of control, and environmental knowledge. Design/methodology/approach The study sample consisted of 227 Turkish undergraduate students. A two-step cluster analysis was performed on environmental attitudes and purchase intentions scores. The differences among the clusters were then examined according to happiness, frugality, environmental locus of control, and environmental knowledge variables. Findings A two-step cluster analysis identified three clusters, namely, “non-greens”, “reluctant greens” and “true greens”, all of whom differed in terms of environmental attitudes and purchase intentions. Non-greens (n = 16) and true greens (n = 121) yielded the lowest and the highest scores for environmental attitudes and purchase intentions, respectively. Three clusters also differed significantly in terms of frugality. Environmental knowledge levels of non-greens differed from those of reluctant greens and true greens. There is no significant difference regarding happiness and environmental locus of control among clusters. Practical implications Local and international companies interested in marketing green products to young millennials in emerging economies may enhance their understanding of non-green and green young millennials in the target markets and differentiate their marketing strategies for each segment. Originality/value Given the need for a better understanding of young millennials’ environmental behavior in an emerging economy, the current study contributes to the literature by segmenting young Turkish millennials based on their environmental attitudes and purchase intentions, further describing the consumer segments with different variables such as happiness, frugality, environmental locus of control and environmental knowledge.

Resumen
The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the application of professional ethics and locus of control to auditor performance either by internal auditors within a company or auditors at a Public Accounting Firm. This research uses the Systematic literature Review (SLR) method. This method is carried out by reviewing several national and international standard journals. The results showed that the quality of auditor performance audit results is dominantly influenced by several situational factors and characteristics of an auditor, for example professional ethics and locus of control that exist for all auditors. This internal locus of control has a positive effect on audit quality, the more internal the locus of control, the higher the audit quality. The external locus of control has a negative effect on audit quality and audit quality decreases. Certified auditors who have good professional ethics will have a positive impact on the auditor's performance. The better the professional ethics of an auditor, the better the auditor's performance will be. An auditor's internal locus of control will behave ethically compared to the auditor's external locus of control which tends to behave unethically.

Resumen
OBJECTIVE: To assess the relationship between locus of control and knowledge, attitude and practice regarding pill and condom use among university students. METHODS: The inquiry was developed in Campinas, a city in Southeastern Brazil, in 2006. A total of 295 adolescent newcomers to a public university answered a structured questionnaire and Levenson's multidimensional locus of control scale. The scores of the dimensions of locus of control were calculated and Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to assess their correlation with knowledge and practice concerning pill and condom use. In order to assess the relationship between the dimensions of locus of control and sociodemographic variables and variables related to the individuals' sex life, Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used. RESULTS: Male adolescents had higher scores of powerful others externality when compared to female adolescents (p=0.01). Students living alone had lower internality (p=0.01). When locus of control was compared to condom use in the first intercourse, considering only the 102 students who informed the age of the beginning of sexual activity, greater internality was found among male adolescents who did not use condoms (p<0.05). When the locus of control scores were correlated with contraceptive knowledge and practice, it was found that the higher the powerful others externality locus, the lower the adequate use of contraceptive methods (r = -0.22, p=0.03). CONCLUSIONS: The powerful others externality locus influences the practice of contraceptive use in this group of adolescents.

Resumen
This study examines the influence of environmental concern and locus of control on the relationship between personality traits and the intention to implement green budgeting. Data was gathered through questionnaires distributed to 269 managers of regional organizations in Bali Province. The analysis utilized the partial least squares method. The findings indicate a positive impact of personality traits on the intention to implement green budgeting. This relationship is fully mediated by environmental concern, openness to experience, extraversion, and neuroticism. Additionally, the personality trait of conscientiousness is partially mediated by environmental concern. Furthermore, locus of control partially mediates the influence of personality trait agreeableness on the intention to implement green budgeting. In light of these results, increasing environmental awareness, especially with regard to individual factors like agreeableness (interpersonal harmony) and locus of control from the budget holders, can enhance the intention to implement green budgeting. This can be achieved through education and self-development programs. The implications for budgeting policies are to provide recommendations for strategy and program planning that contribute to the enhancement of environmental quality.

Resumen
Responsible environmental behavior is assumed to be significantly affected bay one’s knowledge of the environment, the local wisdom, locus of control motivation farming. The study reported here aimed to examine how the four independent variables actually affected the level of farmers’ responsible behavior towards environment. The causal and multidimensional social study was conducted in the Soppeng Regency of South Sulawesi from July 2009 to October 2009, trough a survey to the paddy farmers in the Liliriaja District. A sample of 120 farmers was made up 30 randomly selected farmers from each of the four purposefully selected sub districts in Liliriaja: Appanang, Galung, Rompegading and Jampu. The data of each variable were collected separately with a questionnaire. A path technique, which was preceded by normality and variance homogeneity tests, was employed to analyze the data descriptively and inferentially. The results proved that the farmers’ farming motivation and their responsible environmental behavior, respectively, was directly affected by their knowledge of the environment, the local wisdom, and the locus of control. The three independent variables also indirectly affected the farmers’ responsible environmental behavior through their motivation in farming. These findings suggest that the variables of environmental knowledge, local wisdom, locus of control and the farmers’ motivation in farming are important determinants of their responsible environmental behavior. Variation in the farmers’ responsible environmental behavior may therefore be minimized by improved knowledge of the environment, local wisdom, locus of control and farming motivation.

Resumen
Acquiring a better understanding of what drives pro-environmental and sustainable behaviour is important for both researchers and practitioners alike. The purpose of this paper is to explore the moderating role of locus of control and self-construal on the relationship between pro-environmental beliefs and pro-environmental consumer behaviour. We explicitly model the endorsement of the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) as a predictor of three specific types of environmental behaviour—travel, purchasing and day to day activities. The results show a positive and significant association between the endorsement of NEP and a person’s pro-environmental traveling behaviour, purchasing behaviour and day to day activities. Moreover, we find that the effects are moderated by a person’s locus of control, specifically, it remains positive and significant only for people with an internal locus of control. However, we found no moderating effect of a person’s self-construal on the association between NEP and pro-environmental behaviour. The findings are important in the continuing work to understand what is limiting consumers to behave according to their beliefs. Practical and theoretical implications of the results as well as suggestions for future research are presented.

Resumen
This study examines the effect of the internal environmental locus of control, which includes green consumers, environmental activists, environmental advocates, and recyclers, in regard to the green image of edible insect restaurants. This study additionally investigates how the green image of edible insect restaurants affects the willingness to pay more. Lastly, this study explores the differences of the internal environmental locus of control, which were based on the demographic characteristics. A total of 448 samples were used for the final statistical analysis. The results of the data analysis indicate that two dimensions of the internal environmental locus of control, which include recyclers and environmental activists, have a positive influence on the green image of edible insect restaurants, and they in turn positively affect the willingness to pay more. In terms of difference analysis, all four concepts of INELOC indicated statistical differences according to age. In addition, significant differences of the mean value of recyclers and environmental advocates were found in age. There were also significant differences in the education level for the groups of green consumers. There were significant differences in green consumers, environmental advocates, and environmental activists based on marital status. Lastly, there were significant differences of the mean values of environmental advocates in monthly income.

Resumen
The present study examined Rotter's Internal-External (I-E) locus of control (LOC) concept in relation to life satisfaction and death anxiety in an aged population. Age and sex of the individual were also considered. In the case of life satisfaction, a strong sex and a strong locus of control effect were found. For death anxiety, again a strong sex effect was found, but there was also a significant interaction between locus of control and age. The article suggests the need for a life span developmental perspective in LOC research. Studies which explore the influence of life experiences, situational and environmental variables, and their effect on control orientation are also needed.

(1) Background: The aim of this study was to explore the role of perceived stress and the health locus of control in Crohn’s disease and their influence upon the development of flare-ups of this disease. (2) Methods: Stress and the external locus of control were evaluated in a sample of 64 Crohn’s patients (flare-up phase versus latency phase). The perceived stress scale (PSS-14) and the multidimensional health locus of control scale were the measurement instruments used. (3) Results: The results indicate that the patients have high stress levels during a flare-up (26.13; 27.44; 28.79; 29.67); high stress levels (28.07; 29.67; 27.44; 28.07) if they have a high external locus of control; and that the external locus of control and stress levels have a significant influence upon the existence of flare-ups in those patients with low external locus of control levels (χ2 = 11.127; df = 1: p < 0.001). (4) Conclusions: Actions aimed at reducing stress and external locus of control levels are necessary in Crohn’s disease.

Resumen
Aims. This study examined the associations of social support, loneliness and locus of control with depression and help-seeking in persons with major depression.Methods.Twelve-month help-seeking for emotional problems was assessed in a cross-sectional 2006 Estonian Health Survey. Non-institutionalized individuals aged 18–84 years (n = 6105) were interviewed. A major depressive episode was assessed using the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview. Factors describing social support, social and emotional loneliness and locus of control were assessed, and their associations with depression were analysed. The associations with reported help-seeking behaviour among people identified as having a major depressive episode (n = 343) were explored.Results.Low frequency of contacts with one's friends and parents, emotional loneliness, external locus of control and emotional dissatisfaction with couple relations were significant factors predicting depression in the multivariate model. External locus of control was associated with help-seeking in the depressed sample. Interactions of emotional loneliness, locus of control and frequency of contacts with parents significantly predicted help-seeking in the depressed sample.Conclusions.Depression is associated with structural and functional factors of social support and locus of control. Help-seeking of depressed persons depends on locus of control, interactions of emotional loneliness, locus of control and contacts with the parental family.

Resumen
The concept of vulnerability has been widely used to explain the empirical relationship between certain sociodemographic characteristics and anxieties about criminal victimization. Building upon this conceptual base, the present study proposes a psychological operationalization of vulnerability. Specifically, the relationship between locus of control and worry about crime is explored through an analysis of data generated from a survey of urban residents. Attention is focused upon two particular issues. The first concerns the extent to which locus of control scores mediate the relationships involving sociodemographic indicators of vulnerability and worry about crime. The second issue relates to an investigation of the mechanisms that provide the theoretical and empirical linkage between locus of control and worry.
