Resumen
Engineering ethics is a vital topic in engineering education. Despite its importance, ethics is not much investigated in engineering education as compared to other disciplines. There is need to enhance understanding of undergraduate engineering student’s outlook on ethics at well-established levels to help them appreciate its importance. The study explores the assessment of freshman engineering students’ perception on engineering ethics by analyzing students’ perceptions qualitatively. Engineering ethics applies to every engineer and is very important in professional career which will impact lives. An open-ended survey was designed which was distributed to 23 freshman engineering students. Analysis of the students’ responses resulted in different themes: perceptions about ethics in engineering, ethical dilemma, role of ethics in engineering, morals and ethics, and training requirements on ethics. During the analysis the differences in students’ responses by discipline and gender were particularly examined. Responses from participants of computer sciences and its applied discipline showed relatively more detailed explanation on ethical values compared to other disciplines. Male participants’ responses were more elaborate and with better rationale than female participants. The output of this study will clarify undergraduate engineering students’ understanding on engineering ethics which could be used as a reference in introducing some workshops, webinars, courses, etc. related to engineering ethics to help advance students’ understanding. Resumen
Motivation to study engineering in undergraduate study is of great importance to students. It encourages undergraduate students to enroll in an engineering program and continue their studies without dropping out. Male students enroll in engineering programs with large numbers compared to female students in many parts of the world. In Saudi Arabia, there were limited engineering programs for female students. In this research, the motivation to study engineering is studied and compared between male and female students in the College of Engineering at Prince Sultan University, the first private university in Saudi Arabia. The study was conducted through a detailed survey distributed to 41 male engineering management students and 45 female architectural engineering students. These students’ performance and experience were considered and compared considering their gender to evaluate their persistence toward engineering study. According to the results obtained, the highest degree of the parents had a considerable effect on the selection of engineering major for male and female students. Most surveyed male and female students select an engineering major because of its positive impact on the community and its role in improving the way of life. Male students may differ in that they considered engineering in order to start their own business after graduation with a higher percentage compared to female students. There was a very limited role of the school in selecting engineering majors according to the surveyed male and female students. This role should be enhanced and utilized to encourage more female students to consider engineering majors in their college study.

Resumen
Background: Internet addiction generally refers to an individual’s incapability to control the use of the internet including any online-affiliated compulsive behaviour, which ultimately causes marked distress and functional impairment in daily life. The word “addiction” has usually been associated with substance but severe dependence and addictive patterns have led to the surfacing of the new word “Internet Addiction”. Internet addiction is a unique and attractive subject considered as a behaviour-based addiction in recent years. Objectives: To study and compare internet addiction among medical and engineering students. Methods: Cross-sectional study was conducted among students from local medical and engineering colleges, using the Youngs Internet Addiction Test, a reliable and valid measure of addictive use of the Internet, consisting of twenty items that measure the magnitude of Internet Addiction. Results: Among 514 medical students, 25% were normal, 48% had mild addiction, 23% has moderate addiction and 4% were severely addicted to non-academic purpose usage of the internet. Among 623 engineering students, 20% were normal, 53% had mild addiction, 22% had moderate addiction, and 5% were severely addicted. In our present study, engineering students showed more internet addiction than medical students. Conclusion: Poor academic activity, poor integration in extracurricular activities, and other problems due to excessive Internet use, require strategies to be developed and implemented to treat pathological Internet usage.

Resumen
Mechanical engineering is one of the popular university majors for engineering students, particularly female students. However, due to the social stereotypes and social stigma, female mechanical engineering students and professionals may face difficulties and discriminations due to their gender. Although women are always encouraged to apply for mechanical engineering programmes, only approximately 20% of the mechanical engineering student populations are women. There is a need to increase the student population, particularly for women students. Based on the Social Cognitive Career Theory, this study sought to understand why women would decide to join the mechanical engineering study and join the field for long-term development. The results indicated that the personal, academic, and career interests in engineering and science always drive their decision-making process. This study’s results enable engineering school leaders and department heads to reform their curricula and instructions for female students and their internship directions for students, from multiple perspectives. Resumen
An ongoing technological, economic, and societal change forces a new understanding of engineering and modifies the requirements for higher engineering education. Consequently, an educational approach based on the combination of blended learning and active learning promises great prospects for the enhancement of the knowledge and skills acquisition thanks to the flexibility it opens up. In this research, an attitude to study is first ever analysed from the standpoint of students enrolled in three various degree levels, namely, a Bachelor of Science program, a Master of Science program, and a new EuroTeQ program. The strengths and weaknesses of the blended and active learning combination are evaluated from didactic and methodological sides. It shows a fundamentally different approach to learning from students belonging to various degree programs. Most of the bachelor degree learners volunteered to participate in active learning, although a significant proportion of them was unable to succeed. In contrast, the learning of master students looks more circumspect and selective; they devote less time to study, but spend it more wisely, being more highly responsible for the outcomes than bachelors. The EuroTeQ participants did not push on many active learning activities, but demonstrated quite high motivation in quizzes, labs, and online consultations. As a result, the outcomes of the first academic year satisfied mainly the most strong of the EuroTeQ students.

Reading or interpreting non-verbal language is a learning skill that requires continuous practice. The present study is conducted on a sample of 100 engineering students and identifies a set of theoretical rules specific to this type of language. Observations have been analyzed in interactions with them in different situations, without knowing that they were being evaluated. Thus, the results of the study highlight elements related to how they are attentive to the surrounding environment, whether they are active observers or not, whether they can recognize and decode universal and private nonverbal behaviors. We have also analyzed clustered or successive types of behaviors, reasons of behavioral changes that can signal changes in thoughts, emotions, interests or intentions, and their way of identifying by nonverbal communication, detecting untrue or false nonverbal signals.

Resumen
Abstract The phenomenon of drop out studies appears in the current Romanian context as an acute problem of the national education system. In the present research we will try to identify how factors such as the average obtained in the baccalaureate exam, the place of provenance and the number of credits obtained at the end of the first year of study influence the abandonment. Using a bivariate analysis method, we followed the correlation between the variables "number of students expelled after the first year of study" in the case of students enrolled in the first year of study and having obtained a "grade less than or equal to 7 in the baccalaureate exam" and, respectively the correlation between the variable "number of students expelled after the first year of study" and the origin from urban or rural areas. As can be seen from the data collected, an obvious need to investigate the expectation of students at high risk of drop out - as regards the teacher-student relationship - can be presumed: what are the most effective ways of transmitting knowledge and what communication is acceptable by college students.

Resumen
Estimating from the steady declining rate of engineering students in Malaysia, the country is predicted to be short of 236,000 engineers and technical personnel to achieve its 2020 Mission. Hence, it has built the first technical MARA Junior Science College that introduced engineering to lower secondary students. However, there is yet a study on whether or not it helps the students to increase their interests in engineering. Therefore, in this paper, a survey has been conducted to first and foremost investigate the technical students’ interests in engineering as well as finding out the reasoning from those who are not interested in engineering. After that, a half day engineering program is introduced with a measurement on the interest in engineering before and after the intervention is held. Finally, the survey studies which field of engineering the students are most interested in. The results show that, before the program is introduced, only 8.47% of the technical students have shown high interests in engineering field with only 7.5% female students are interested in engineering compared to 18.42% for male students. After the program is introduced, as high as 33.05% students rated their interest in engineering field as ‘most interested’, with 39.47% in male students and 30% in female students. It proves that an engineering event is crucial in increasing students’ interests in engineering. It also concludes that EE is the most favourite field of engineering with percentage score of 38.98%, while EP being the least.

Resumen
Our world is quickly moving towards the fourth industrial revolution including mobile, big data, AI, IoT, cloud computing, VR, etc. Recently, South Korea has been emphasizing convergence education to university. Thus, university has begun doing convergence education on their own by linking major subjects and liberal arts courses or linking different departments. In this paper, we analyzed learners’ satisfaction for operating convergence education effectively to increase education satisfaction and developed convergence curriculum and convergence skills required by society. for this study, a satisfaction survey is conducted for students majoring in engineering colleges. And the students’ experiences are collected through interviews and questionnaires for suggesting improved the convergence curriculum operation. We also did interviews and asked students about the meaning convergence education had for them, the impressions they had after taking the classes, and any opinions for further improvements. As a result of the analysis of student's satisfaction and satisfaction of convergence curriculum, it was analyzed as “approximately satisfied” with 3.6. Additionally, the correlation between student satisfaction and convergence curriculum satisfaction was analyzed, and the correlation coefficient showed a significant correlation with 0.732. In other words, it can be seen that students with high-student satisfaction are also highly satisfied with the convergence curriculum. Based on the result of the research and the student’s opinions, we would like to suggest that there should be subject development that is connected to careers or job searching for senior students, and additional research of practical educational methods are also needed.

The educational process changed significantly in the context of the pandemic generated by the Coronavirus. University students had to move from the traditional classes and laboratories to the online platform. As extant research shows, this shift to online education has both advantages and drawbacks. The objective of this research is to analyze the advantages of online lectures as perceived by engineering students from a Romanian technical university in Bucharest. The analysis has been done on a sample of 109 university students. The results revealed two kinds of benefits: educational and personal. The most important educational benefits were the online participation and the possibility to record and review courses or seminars any time and from anywhere. The most important personal benefits were time-saving, comfort, and money-saving. Overall, the perceptions of engineering students are suggesting a relative acceptance of the online lecture format which contrasts with the results of similar studies in the literature

Resumen
In higher education there seems to be a ‘gap’ between the levels of undergraduate student expectation of being confronted by ethical issues in engineering work, and the amount of effective ethics education. Within this context, the purpose of this empirical research is to investigate engineering students’ views on two issues: a) How vital professional ethics are in their field, and b) whether they believe that professional ethics must be a part of the syllabus in their School. Findings indicate that teachers should make special reference to and strongly emphasize in class the value of an engineer's ethical responsibility. Furthermore, they need to spend a number of teaching hours on tackling problems in professional ethics as well as organize conferences, workshops, lectures and discussions, where the main speakers would be experienced engineers and academics. This way the technical and technological education incorporates more the responsibility of building professional integrity that can guarantee the much needed social goods of progress and prosperity, along with safety.

Resumen
In literature it was not possible to find a proven valid and reliable scale to measure students’ attitudes towards engineering profession and engineering education. The objective of present research is to provide a valid and reliable scale for measuring students’ attitudes towards engineering profession and engineering education. The sample group is composed of 650 students for the first application and 113 students for the second. In order to detect the validity of the scale, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, item factor total correlations, corrected correlations and item discriminations were conducted. In order to assess the reliability of the scale, the level of internal consistency and the stability levels were calculated. EEAS a five-point Likert-type scale and includes 17 items with two factors. The analyses provided evidence that EEAS is a valid and reliable scale that can be assuredly used to identify students’ attitudes towards engineering profession and education they receive.

Resumen
The development of research abilities is a necessary competency for students of Engineering and Science. Regardless of the engineering field of interest, the development of global competencies influences their professional performance. In the present work, we describe the impact, from the students' perception, of the early approach in research activities that involves critical thinking, innovation, problem-solving, self-direction, leading, and written communication abilities. To introduce the students to Research-Based Learning (RBL), we asked them to develop a solution to a problem presented in a first-semester science class in a university focused on developing technical and transversal competencies. This work proposes a teaching methodology based on RBL, which includes the appropriate use of search tools, data analysis, and writing skills, taking advantage of the institution's resources. Simultaneously, we looked for an effective research methodology to build a solid theoretical framework relevant to their experimental results. Moreover, we aimed to link the theoretical course contents to the student's engineering field through RBL activities. The sample under study had 98 students taking an experimental physics and statistical analysis course; 49 in an experimental group (class) were guided using RBL, and the other students were in the control group. The evaluation of the learning outcomes was carried out comparing the pre-and-post surveys, using a 5-point Likert scale (ranging from strongly disagree to strongly agree). The statistical analysis of the experimental guided group results showed an increase in critical thinking, innovation, problem-solving, and self-direction compared to the control group students. However, the leadership competency did not show any improvement in both groups. We concluded that implementing the RBL methodology for students in the early stages of engineering education promoted and reinforced the development of technical and transversal competencies

Resumen
Interest of prospective students toward engineering courses both in public and private universities keep decreasing. Data shows that only 14% of students choose engineering courses. In smaller scale, in one private university, students interest taking the engineering course are only 25% compared to student interest on taking the social courses. Purpose of this research was to conclude the reasons why student’s interest toward engineering courses are low, and to comprise some proven solutions, related theories, in order to help solving the problems. Method used in this research is descriptive quantitative. Data used comes from new student’s quisionaire, and related data with student’s number studying engineering course in Kopertis III and in the internal of ABC University. Data analysis showed that current engineering courses which have more students, are engineering courses with social senses such as Architecture, Regional Planning, and Design Product. Along with the theory of 4 (four) aspecs behind the popularity of a figure, all caused by the current trend of prospective student’s interest towards the social study attractiveness which leads to problem soving, the existence of success’s public figures, and industry branding. Direct workshop between lecturer and prospective students, and doing open house in the university could be strategies to increase the numbers of prospective student who want to take engineering course.

Resumen
The inclusion of ethics education in engineering courses has been recognized as fundamental. However, in Portugal this training component is present only in a small number of courses. Teachers are mainly responsible for building the curriculum, but students are the ones most affected by this absence of ethics education. In this context it is necessary and important to understand students´ perspective, because their role is vital in the curriculum construction´s success. It is in this framework that this investigation listened to engineering students' voice as a factor to consider in the rethinking of engineering course curriculum in the ethics education area. This study highlights the concept that students have of engineering action, their perspective about the possibility of their courses to include ethics training and its practical implementation. This research is part of a case study and research-action. The results indicate that students are very receptive to this training component, and they consider that it should be included as mandatory in engineering courses. The results also show that students prefer a more practical training with ‘prescription’ characteristics and that their perspective of engineering action consequences is very limited. These results reinforce the need for ethics education that promotes a wide scope critical reflection.

Resumen
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a crisis that has critically affected higher education institutions. With the sudden shift to emergency remote education during the pandemic, students’ online experiences have become a growing concern among teachers. This study aims to gain insights into students’ experiences of online activities in a hybrid learning approach. A total of 80 students enrolled in undergraduate programs at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, responded to an open-ended online questionnaire. This study used the content analysis to find out the positive and negative experiences in online learning, the preference for continuing instruction in a certain format and the reason for choice. The results showed that students' resources and skills played an important role in terms of positive or negative study experiences: cost and time effectiveness, easy access to many study materials and good distance learning skills helped to cope with this pandemic, while little or no interaction with colleagues and teachers and too many hours on screen caused difficulties and dissatisfaction among other students. Despite these issues, most students are interested in continuing their online instruction, but also face-to-face or hybrid activities. This study can provide recommendations derived from the interpretation of participant feedback for improvements in future online learning experience

Resumen
Learning is more concerned in engineering education as students need to do deep learning to understand the engineering principles for practice. Engineering is a practicing profession. Therefore, providing learning environment is required for the subjects of engineering disciplines to enable students to learn in depth. By knowing this phenomenon, field study was conducted as a group study for the civil engineering subject of building construction allowing students to learn and gain knowledge by observing construction activities in construction projects in addition to the lectures in usual classroom. At the end of the study, it is found that field study is useful for learning and students acquire knowledge and understand the application of theory at real situation. In addition, students develop skills for working as a team by organizing their works, sharing knowledge, discussing with relevant technical personnel at work site and achieving the targets within the given time frame. It is realized that teacher’s role is vital to make the study successful in the ways of organizing field study, conducting discussion classes to assist students, monitoring the progress and giving the feedback of the students’ performance during the course of field study producing excellent results while satisfying the objectives of both teacher and students.
