Texto completoThis work envisages Jewish religious and social reactions to ruptures that have upset the history of the Jewish people since the debut of the Christian era. Ruptures, that is to say events, that have concerned the complete Jewish population and have obliged a redefinition of its identity. The research starts from the destruction of the second temple (that left the Jewish people "to fend for itself"), and ends at the emancipation to the Jews of Europe to "return to history"). This invitation has since brought each Jew to determine the "identity price" that he is ready to pay for his integration. The great contemporary ruptures that affect the Jewish world (sionism and shoah) have purposely not been studied. Nevertheless, we hope that this research will be an element for the study of these events
Horel, Catherine. "Les Juifs de Hongrie : 1825-1849 : problèmes d'assimilation et d'émancipation". Paris 1, 1993. http://www.theses.fr/1993PA010697.
Texto completoBetween 1825 and 1849, the history of the hungarian jews is submitted to the most noticeable evolution, which makes this population one of the most dynamical element of the hungarian nation at the end of the 19th centuty. At the beginning of our period, the jews of hungary are still a marginal, almost illiterate and extremely poor group. The 1830's and 1840's reveal deep political, economical and social changes. What we may call the tacit alliance between the new liberal hungarian leaders and the most progressive jews arises at this time. This parallel evolution allows the exceptional development of the capitalism, mostly initiated by the jews, of the jewish public schools and finally the emergence of an intelligentsia these characteristics appear clearly during the revolution of 1848, which far from being a failure, despite the repression, establishes the existence of a jewish patriotism and shows the irreversible nature of the evolution of the hungarian jews all this years long
Iancu, Carol. "L'évolution du statut juridique et politique des juifs en Roumanie 1913-1938". Aix-Marseille 1, 1991. http://www.theses.fr/1991AIX10025.
Texto completoThis work begins with an analysis of the long fight for the emancipation of the jews in romania, which entered its critical stage after the balkan wars and took shape at the paris peace conference (1919). Both its internal dimension (efforts of the union of native jews, socialists and zionists) and its international one (measures undertaken by western hewish organisations and the great powers) are taken under consideration. The situation of the jews in gretar romania in the period between the two world wars is to be understood in the light of all the laws and regulations that governed their lives. Particular attention is paid to ideologie and to actions of the anti-semitic movement and its most important organizations (the national christian defense league, the legion of the archangel michael, and the iron guard), as well as the attitude of government authorities that determined the position of jews in romanian society. The political reaction of the jews is examined by a study of their representative organizations (the union of roumanian jews, the jewish party, and the central council of roumanian jews) and the progress of the zionist movement. The evolution of the legal and political status of the jews between 1919 and 1938 (the year the anti-semitic government of goga-cuza began the gradual removal of citizenship from its jewish inhabitants. .

Texto completoThe aim of this study is to evaluate the rejection of the above mentioned communities within european history, and progressively to subject this rejection to a critical analysis within the history of france. Having first explored the roots de this phenoemnon in antiquity (slavery, citizenship, sociability, religion), the investigation continues with an analysis of spain at the beginning of the 15th. Century : at the time when the moslins were expelled and moderns forms of antisemitism were "invented", while in the empire, through that destruction of the caribbean indians, the slave-trade and the exploitation of black slaves, european racism was constructed at the center of new forms of domination. This process which is progressively placed in the context of france, the french revolution and the enlightenment, is followed by an analysis of jewish emancipation and the "jewisk question", and a return to the historical conditions that dictated the abolition of slavery. Throughout this period, marked henceforth also by the concept of citizenship, modern forms of racial and antisemitic

Texto completoAt the beginning of the 20th Century the most important Jewish community in Europe, - Russia non included - is at home in the Habsburg Empire. Their members are well-educated and very wealthy. Their wealth and their good education make them all the more vulnerable to anti-Semitism. During the 68 years of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph, Austrian anti-Semitism is held in limits by the sovereign. But after his death and the destruction of the Monarchy anti-Semitism gets the upper hand and eventually destroys Austrian Judaism. Our study should enable the reader to become aware that Judaism in Austria-Hungary is an integral part of Austrian history. Their presence in the country is first acknowlegded by official writings in 906, long before the Empire itself was created. The reader will get acquainted with the daily life of this population in cities as well as in villages. It will therefore be easier for him to understand why Austrian Jews consider the reign of Joseph II as their period of emancipation and the reign of Franz Joseph I as their golden age. Here he will find the roots of the very warm dynastic feelings of the Habsburg Jews and their staunch faithfulness to the Monarchy
Cadelo, Maria. "Modèles féminins de bienfaisance comparés à l’époque de l’émancipation juive : les institutions caritatives de Rome et Turin". Thesis, Université Paris sciences et lettres, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020UPSLP016.
Texto completoThis work traces the historical story of some charities, operating in Rome and Turin between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century, through the archival papers that have so far remained unexplored. Attention was paid to the female role, a decisive result in shaping the activity of these bodies. The exclusion of women from community life enshrined in tradition did not prevent a gradual reduction of the traditional separation of roles during the phase of emancipation of religious minorities. This aspect is related to the need often felt by the woman to contribute to the economic support of the family. The increase in poverty was also the engine of the initiative of the bourgeois women who were increasingly involved in philanthropic activities, therefore work dimension and charity activities were the privileged paths from which the female made its entry into the social dimension. The history of the institutions, reconstructed mainly through the Pinqasim, is part of a network system of charity that takes on particular significance in the phase following Jewish emancipation. The philanthropic model underlying the educational intervention incorporates the traditional concept of tzedakah, but also fulfills the crucial function of preserving the bond of cohesion between the internal members of the community. The history of the associations is a starting point for understanding the economic and social situation of the Roman and Turin universities and its complex relations with the external reality

Texto completoThrough my study on Saint-Simonism in 19th-Century France, l pinpoint the socio-political and religious problems that emerged within the Saint-Simonian group in terms of conflicting gender discourses. L outline how some Jewish members of this group, who were also part of the Parisian Jewish intelligentsia, took steps towards developing their own understanding of gender. They were linked to some exponents of the Haskala, such as the Mendelssohns in Berlin. In 1831 and 1832, Saint-Simonian messianism inspired a utopia of salvation, whose principal theme was the idea of aIl God's people made incarnate in a single Jewish Woman, the "female messiah", a fictive figure who was actually worshiped by the Saint-Simonian sect. The female hypostasis shaped by some Jewish Saint-Simonians was incompatible with that conceived by the rest of the group, exemplifying the conflicts and the « structural amnesia » accompanying the socio-political entry of French and German Jewry into the Modern Age
Ayoun, Richard. "Typologie d'une carrière rabbinique en France et en Algérie au XIXe siècle : l'exemple de Mahir Charleville". Paris, EPHE, 1990. http://www.theses.fr/1990EPHE5010.
Texto completoThe study of the career of Mahir Charleville enables to show, on one hand, the main features of the rabbinic career in France and in Algeria during the 19e century and, on the other hand, what can be, after the emancipation, the life and the work of a rabbi. Though this biography, we discover a century that definitively marks the Jews' story in France by allowing them to know, thanks to the emancipation and his consequences, a legal and political situation which was totally new. The reference's institution that represents the consistory since his creation is emphasized. The rabbi Charleville searches his way between a Jewish peculiarity which risks to divide the Israelite from the other French people, and the total opening on the values of the French civilisation, with the social and economical insertion that it enables them to have in the civil society. By unifying the religious, laic and political waves, by asserting the peculiarity and the universalism of Israel, and by accepting an “other” assimilation, the consistory and, with him, Charleville, have permitted to expect better times

Electronic Thesis or Diss., Sorbonne université, 2024. https://accesdistant.sorbonne-universite.fr/login?url=https://theses-intra.sorbonne-universite.fr/2024SORUL045.pdf.
Texto completoThe main goal of this dissertation is to analyse the influence Kantian philosophy had on the writings of Lazarus Bendavid (1762 - 1832) and his philosophy of Judaism. With this dissertation we introduce the first complete biography of Lazarus Bendavid and his life between Berlin and Vienna. We also offer the first thorough examination of his Haskala-project in order to shed light on his vision of an individual and autonomous Judaism, as well as his important role within Jewish Kantianism et his impact on the development and evolution of a German-Jewish identity and, lastly, the foundation of Wissenschaft des Judentums. This research project hence revolves around the intersection of philosophy, history and Jewish studies and, through examining the Enlightenment movements in Berlin and Vienna, researches the life and works of one of it's intellectuals who has, thus far, been neglected in Haskala-research: Lazarus Bendavid
