Resumen
Unilateral retinitis pigmentosa (URP) is a rare tapetoretinal dystrophy affecting only one eye. Criteria are necessary to make a correct diagnosis of URP: exclude all infective etiologies, check that the clinical signs of retinitis are present in the affected eye and the total absence of any signs or symptoms of retinitis pigmentosa in the fellow eye. Electroretinogram (ERG) and electro-oculogram (EOG) are useful for the correct diagnosis. In this paper we report one case.

Resumen
Adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy is a rare disease. It shares heritance features with Best disease. Its onset is in the 3rd and 5th decade, and it is characterized by subretinal deposition of yellowish material in the foveal area. Visual acuity ranges from 20/25 to 20/50, which can be seen in routine examination. Patient remains with good visual function throughout theirs lives. Typically the electro-oculogram may be normal or subnormal. We present a case of adult-onset vitelliform macular dystrophy, diagnosed in a patient with complaint of bilateral blurred vision.

Resumen
Bests disease is an autosomal dominant hereditary macular dystrophy characterized by the presence of auto-fluorescent vitelline deposits. We report a case of a vitelliform stage of bests disease in a 23-year-old female patient. The diagnosis was made based on the fundus appearance: egg yolk macular lesion, hypofluorescence in the early stages, OCT appearance and alteration of the electro-oculogram and the electroretinogram. The exact frequency of this condition is difficult to determine and varies according to the various studies. It is thought to account for 4% of all retinal dystrophies. Its management is an annual surveillance.

Resumen
Purpose To describe the clinical manifestations in a patient with Sjögren reticular dystrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium, and the evolution of the disease over a 20-year follow-up period. Case Report A 45-year-old woman with Sjögren reticular dystrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium was seen for the first time in 1983; the patient underwent 20 years of annual check-ups. Results Over the follow-up period, fundus photographs, computerized perimetry, electroretinogram, and electro-oculogram findings had either normal or slightly subnormal outcome. Conclusions The results confirm that this disease involves only the retinal pigment epithelium and should not be considered a central tapeto-retinal degeneration or late onset retinopathy.

Resumen
The results of an electrodiagnostic test, the electro-oculogram, recorded under standardized conditions, were compared. Recordings were obtained from 70 normal subjects in three European countries and 28 subjects in an Asian country. All subjects were 18–34 years old. Equal numbers of male and female patients were tested in each of six laboratories. There were no significant differences between the results of the European laboratories. There were, however, significant differences between the results of the European and the Asian laboratories, and between the results from the male and female subjects in all laboratories. This suggests the need for considering the possibility of male/female as well as local variations in normal control values when telemedicine is applied on a global scale.

Resumen
This study proposes an Eye input device by electro-oculogram (EOG) recognition for individuals with the motor neuron diseases (MNDs). In this study, the level of the unstable EOG signal is transformed into standard logic level signal by using the baseline tracing algorithm. The standard logic level signal is used as Morse code sequences which is recognized by the sliding fuzzy recognition algorithm embedded in a microprocessor. The result demonstrates that the unstable EOG signals can be successfully transformed into alphanumeric characters and the recognition rate is approximately 99% for the novice users. Accordingly, we designed an inexpensive user computer interface for helping the disabled persons to communicate with others, the user can input text with their eyes to access the computer and household appliances, such as lamps, fans and TV sets.

Resumen
Humans typically fixate on objects before moving their arm to grasp the object. Patients with ALS disorder can also select the object with their intact eye movement, but are unable to move their limb due to the loss of voluntary muscle control. Though several research works have already achieved success in generating the correct grasp type from their brain measurement, we are still searching for fine controll over an object with a grasp assistive device (orthosis/exoskeleton/robotic arm). Object orientation and object width are two important parameters for controlling the wrist angle and the grasp aperture of the assistive device to replicate a human-like stable grasp. Vision systems are already evolved to measure the geometrical attributes of the object to control the grasp with a prosthetic hand. However, most of the existing vision systems are integrated with electromyography and require some amount of voluntary muscle movement to control the vision system. Due to that reason, those systems are not beneficial for the users with brain-controlled assistive devices. Here, we implemented a vision system which can be controlled through the human gaze. We measured the vertical and horizontal electrooculogram signals and controlled the pan and tilt of a cap-mounted webcam to keep the object of interest in focus and at the centre of the picture. A simple ‘signature’ extraction procedure was also utilized to reduce the algorithmic complexity and system storage capacity. The developed device has been tested with ten healthy participants. We approximated the object orientation and the size of the object and determined an appropriate wrist orientation angle and the grasp aperture size within 22 ms. The combined accuracy exceeded 75%. The integration of the proposed system with the brain-controlled grasp assistive device and increasing the number of grasps can offer more natural manoeuvring in grasp for ALS patients.
