Resumen
In this paper we present an optimized software implementation (sFFT-4.0)of the recently developed Nearly Optimal Sparse Fast Fourier Transform (sFFT) algorithm for the noisy case. First, we developed a modified versionof the Nearly Optimal sFFT algorithm for the noisy case, this modified algorithm solves the accuracy issues of the original version by modifying theflat window and the procedures; and second, we implemented the modifiedalgorithm on a multicore platform composed of eight cores. The experi-mental results on the cluster indicate that the developed implementation isfaster than direct calculation using FFTW library under certain conditions of sparseness and signal size, and it improves the execution times of previous implementations like sFFT-2.0. To the best knowledge ofthe authors, the developed implementation is the first one of the Nearly Optimal sFFT algorithm for the noisy case.

Texto completo
Resumen
Software Defined Radio (SDR) is a relatively new approach to develop wireless communication systems. SDR presents a framework for developing flexible, reconfigurable devices intended to alleviate some of the issues arising from the evolution of wireless technology. The Software Communications Architecture (SCA), developed by the Joint Tactical Radio System program of the US Department of Defense, is an open architecture for implementing SDR, relying on commercial technology, standard interfaces, and well-known design patterns. Although the SCA is intended to provide easier, faster development of flexible applications that are upgradeable and maintainable, the acceptance of the architecture has been limited in part by traditional radio engineers' lack of understanding modern software engineering techniques. Because of the steep learning curve, some developers face frustration and serious delays when first introduced to the SCA. This work presents a comprehensive tutorial which introduces radio engineers to the SCA and the techniques used in it. Another concern for accepting the SCA are the performance, size, cost, and power consuption difficulties faced in early implementations of the architecture. Traditionally, SCA implementations have been developed for platforms based on General Purpose Processors. This approach, while believed to be the easiest to implement, does not make the best out of available processor technology. In order to provide a more efficient implementation of radios based on the SCA, we present the design and development of an SCA Core Framework version 2.2 for a homogeneous TI C64 DSP platform. This framework is implemented by leveraging the existing implementation of the Open-Source SCA Implementation::Embedded (OSSIE) by porting it to the C64 platform. Two sample waveforms are developed and deployed to demonstrate the functionality of the framework. Preliminary performance and memory footprint profiling results are provided.

Resumen
Current cryptographic algorithms pose high standards of security yet they are susceptible to side-channel analysis (SCA). When it comes to implementation, the hardness of cryptography dangles on the weak link of side-channel information leakage. The widely adopted AES encryption algorithm, and others, can be easily broken when they are implemented without any resistance to SCA. This work applies state of the art techniques, namely Secret Sharing and Secure Multiparty Computation (SMC), on AES-128 encryption as a countermeasure to those attacks. This embedded C implementation explores multiple time-memory trade-offs for the design of its fundamental components, SMC and field arithmetic, to meet a variety of execution and storage demands. The performance and leakage assessment of this implementation for an ARM based micro-controller demonstrate the capabilities of masking schemes and prove their feasibility on embedded software.

Resumen
Real time convolution has many applications among others simulating room reverberation in audio processing. Non-uniformly partitioning filters could satisfy the both desired features of having a low latency and less computational complexity for an efficient convolution. However, distributing the computation to have an uniform demand on Central Processing Unit (CPU) is still challenging. Moreover, computational cost for very long filters is still not acceptable. In this thesis, a new algorithm is presented by taking advantage of the broad memory on Graphics Processing Units (GPU). Performing the computations of a non-uniformly partitioned block convolution on GPU could solve the problem of work load on CPU. It is shown that the computational time in this algorithm reduces for the filters with long length.

In this thesis, we study the design of multivariate cryptosystems, which are resistant against classical and quantum computers. In particular, we study two digital signature schemes that I submitted to the NIST Post-Quantum Cryptography standardization process: GeMSS and DualModeMS. These schemes are based on the HFE family. We propose security parameters based on a state-of-the-art of twenty years of intensive cryptanalysis. Then, we select secure parameters which maximize the practical efficiency. We measure this with a new library: MQsoft. MQsoft is a fast library in C which supports a large set of parameters for HFE-based schemes. Its performance outperforms all existing libraries. We explain in this thesis how we obtain this result. Whereas GeMSS is a scheme which has a large public-key but a very short signature, DualModeMS is based on a transformation inverting this trade-off. However, its security is based on the assumption that the AMQ problem is hard. We demonstrate that this assumption is verified, and we confirm our results with experiences using Gröbner basis. Finally, we propose the first implementation of DualModeMS. We study how to implement it efficiently, as well as how to optimize the choice of security parameters. We also extend DualModeMS to the Rainbow cryptosystem instead of HFE. This allows to have interesting key sizes and signature sizes

Resumen
The purpose of this master thesis was to investigate which of the two methods, resolution and tableaux, that is the most appropriate for automated theorem proving. This was done by implementing an automated theorem prover, comparing and documenting implementation problems, and measuring proving efficiency. In this thesis, I conclude that the resolution method might be more suitable for an automated theorem prover than tableaux, in the aspect of ease of implementation. Regarding the efficiency, the test results indicate that resolution is the better choice.

In this chapter, we will present the technical aspects of atomistic spin dynamics, in particular how the method can be implemented in an actual computer software. This involves calculation of effective field and creation of neighbour lists for setting up the geometry of the system of interest as well as choosing a suitable integrator scheme for the SLL (or SLLG) equation. We also give examples of extraction and processing of relevant observables that are common output from simulations. Atomistic spin dynamics simulations could be a computationally heavy tool but it is also very well adapted for modern computer architectures like massive parallel computing and/or graphics processing units and we provide examples how to utilize these architectures in an efficient manner. We use our own developed software UppASD as example, but the discussion could be applied to any other atomistic spin dynamics software.

Resumen
We present a series of software implementations of the Fantomas block cipher in resource-constrained ARM devices like the Cortex-M3 and Cortex-M4; and more powerful processors such as the ARM Cortex-A15 and modern Intel platforms. Our implementations span a broad range of characteristics: 32-bit and 64-bit versions, side-channel resistant and vectorized code for NEON and SSE instructions. Our implementations of the algorithm improve the state of the art substantially, both in terms of efficiency or compactness, by making use of novel algorithmic techniques and features specific to the target platform. In particular, our unprotected 32-bit implementation achieves speedups from 35% to 66% in the ARM Cortex-M architecture, while consuming considerably less code size. The vectorized implementations improve performance over the state of the art by 40% in the ARM Cortex-A15 and 50% in the Core i7 Ivy Bridge, setting new speed records for the implementation of the block cipher.

Resumen
The emergence of quantum computers is pushing an unprecedented transition in the public key cryptography field. Conventional algorithms, mostly represented by elliptic curves and RSA, are vulnerable to attacks using quantum computers and need, therefore, to be replaced. Cryptosystems based on error-correcting codes are considered some of the most promising candidates to replace them for encryption schemes. Among the code families, QC-MDPC codes achieve the smallest key sizes while maintaining the desired security properties. Their performance, however, still needs to be greatly improved to reach a competitive level. In this work, we focus on optimizing the performance of QC-MDPC code-based cryptosystems through improvements concerning both their implementations and algorithms. We first present a new enhanced version of QcBits' key encapsulation mechanism, which is a constant time implementation of the Niederreiter cryptosystem using QC-MDPC codes. In this version, we updated the implementation parameters to meet the 128-bit quantum security level, replaced some of the core algorithms avoiding slower instructions, vectorized the entire code using the AVX 512 instruction set extension and introduced some other minor improvements. Comparing with the current state-of-the-art implementation for QC-MDPC codes, the BIKE implementation, our code performs 1.9 times faster when decrypting messages. We then optimize the performance of QC-MDPC code-based cryptosystems through the insertion of a configurable failure rate in their arithmetic procedures. We present constant time algorithms with a configurable failure rate for multiplication and inversion over binary polynomials, the two most expensive subroutines used in QC-MDPC implementations. Using a failure rate negligible compared to the security level (2^{-128}), our multiplication is 2 times faster than the one used in the NTL library on sparse polynomials and 1.6 times faster than a naive constant-time sparse polynomial multiplication. Our inversion algorithm, based on the inversion algorithm of Wu et al., is 2 times faster than the original and 12 times faster than the inversion algorithm of Itoh and Tsujii using the same modulus polynomial (x^{32749} - 1). By inserting these algorithms in our enhanced version of QcBits, we were able to achieve a speedup of 1.9 on the key generation and up to 1.4 on the decryption time. Comparing with BIKE, our final version of QcBits performs the uniform decryption 2.7 times faster. Moreover, the techniques presented in this work can also be applied to BIKE, opening new possibilities for further Improvements.

The challenge of autonomous off-road operations necessitates a robust understanding of the relationships between remotely sensed terrain data and vehicle performance. The implementation of statistical analyses on large geospatial datasets often requires the transition between multiple software packages that may not be open-source. The lack of a single, modular, and open-source analysis environment can reduce the speed and reliability of an analysis due to an increased number of processing steps. Here we present the capabilities of a workflow, developed in R, to perform a series of spatial and statistical analyses on vehicle and terrain datasets to quantify the relationship between sensor data and vehicle performance in winter conditions. We implemented the R-based workflow on datasets from a large, coordinated field campaign aimed at quantifying the response of military vehicles on snow-covered terrains. This script greatly reduces processing times of these datasets by combining the GIS, data-assimilation and statistical analyses steps into one efficient and modular interface.

Humpage, Sarah D. Benefits and Costs of Electronic Medical Records: The Experience of Mexico's Social Security Institute. Inter-American Development Bank, junio de 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0008829.

Resumen
Electronic medical record (EMR) systems are increasingly used in developing countries to improve quality of care while increasing efficiency. There is little systematic evidence, however, regarding EMRs' benefits and costs. This case study documents the implementation and use of an EMR system at the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). Three EMR systems are now in operation for primary care, outpatient and inpatient hospital care. The evidence suggests that the primary care system has improved efficiency of care delivery and human resources management, and may have decreased incidence of fraud. The hospital systems, however, have lower coverage and are less popular among staff. The greater success of the primary care system may be due to greater investment, a participatory development process, an open workplace culture, and software appropriately tailored to the workflow. Moving forward, efforts should be made to exploit data housed in EMRs for medical and policy research.

van der Mensbrugghe, Dominique. The META 21 Integrated Assessment Model in GAMS and LHS Sampling. GTAP Working Paper, mayo de 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.21642/gtap.wp95.

Texto completo
Resumen
The META 21 Integrated Assessment Model (Dietz et al., 2021) represents a fairly comprehensive climate change simulation model incorporating a number of features: (a) a recent simple climate model; (b) down-scaling of temperature change to the country level; (c) integration of a number of bio-physical tipping points linked to rising temperatures; and (d) economic damages linked to rising sea levels and temperature using recent country-level estimates from the literature. The original implementation of META 21 was in Excel and linked to the @Risk Excel add-in for performing Monte Carlo-type analysis. This paper reflects a translation of META 21 into GAMS. One of the key purposes is to allow for ready incorporation of many of the features of META 21 into other models—notably CGE-based IAMs. To replace the features provided by the @Risk Excel add-in, this paper also introduces a software package that produces random deviates—and, similar to @Risk, uses the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) approach, which is a stratified sampling technique intended to cover the entire sampling space efficiently and, in addition, orders the sample to reflect a desired correlation matrix for the sampled random variables.
