Resumen
This study is a review article. Gerontology literature was reviewed and issues of latent aging were systematically formed. According to the results of the study, latent aging consists of perceptual diagnosis, research, adoption, and reactive actions.Reactive actions include the social, psychological and physical effects of latent aging. The social effects of latent aging are the decline of social relations and social isolation. Depression, stress, anxiety, traumas and cognitive decline are among the psychological effects. Chronic musculoskeletal pain, sleep disorders, premature mortality, and suicidal ideation were determined as physical effects. The detection of latent aging is important in the prevention of chronic diseases. It was revealed that latent aging has the following four main processes: perceptual diagnosis and coding, research and comparison, adoption and reactive actions. Furthermore, this aging approach has three significant effects: social, psychological and physical.

Resumen
ABSTRACTA symposium on ageing research was held at the 7th Australian Developmental Conference in July 1992. The theme of the symposium was the effect of ageing on cognition. Empirical and theoretical papers presented evidence for cognitive decline in late adulthood. However, discussion of the modifiability of cognition tempered the pessimistic view of cognitive ability in old age. Interdisciplinary studies such as the Berlin Aging Study provide hope for the discovery of factors affecting successful ageing by examining the interaction between health, personality, social factors, and cognition.

Resumen
With the aim at controlling cellulose degradation phenomena, the natural aging of Whatman paper samples was simulated through different artificial aging processes: thermal oxidation in air at constant temperature, photo-oxidation under Xenon arc lamp, accelerating ageing in climatic chamber, and chemical oxidation with sodium methaperiodate. The cellulose degradation was studied by means of viscosimetric, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and wide angle X-ray scattering (WAXS) techniques together with thermogravimetric (TGA), mechanical, and optical analyses. All the treatments carried out were found to significantly modify paper structure and properties, the extent of the deterioration effects depending upon the aging kind. Direct correlations were, nevertheless, assessed among level of cellulose molecular degradation, formation of carboxyl, and/or carbonyl groups and paper strain at break.

Resumen
Asphalt aging occurs both in the construction period and in the service period of asphalt pavement. It is believed that aging could have a big influence on the rheological mechanical and adhesion characteristics of the asphalt. Asphalt aging is a process associated with a lot of factors as heat, rays, oxygen, and ozone. In the aging process, some chemical compositions of asphalt are subject to be activated by these factors and undergo some chemical changes. A theoretical analysis at a chemical reaction level to the asphalt aging mechanism is presented in this paper. Asphalt aging can be sorted as thermal oxidation aging, ray oxidation aging, and ozone oxidation aging. The thermal oxidation aging usually occurs in the components with chains and double bonds in their molecules. The ray oxidation aging can be found in components with one carbonyl or more carbonyls. Those components with a π key in their molecular structures are prone to the ozone oxidation aging.

Resumen
In this paper, carbon fiber reinforced resin matrix composites were produced by stacking eight pieces of carbon fiber woven plain fabric and subjected to accelerated ageing. Accelerated ageing was carried out in oven at 180°C for three different time intervals (60 hours, 120 hours and 180 hours). The influence of different ageing time intervals at 180°C on tensile properties of laminated composites was examined, compared with the composites without aging. The appearance and damage forms of these laminated composites were investigated. The results revealed that the tensile strength of the laminates declined significantly after long term accelerated aging at 180°C. The average tensile strengths of composite samples aged 60 hours, 120 hours, and 180 hours period of time at 180°C are 80.36%, 79.82%, 76.57% of average tensile strength of composite samples without aging, respectively. The high temperature accelerated aging makes the resin macromolecular structure in the composites changed, and then the adhesive force between fiber bundles and resin declines rapidly which result in the tensile strength of composites aged decrease. This research provides a useful reference for long term durability of laminated/epoxy resin composites.

Resumen
Nowadays, most of asphalt used in pavement construction is produced from petrochemicals through refining process of crude oil. When evolves with time, asphalt become stiffer and brittle due aging process. In this paper, the rheological effect of short-term and long-term oxidative ageing of asphalt binder modified with montmorillonite (MMT) was studied using SuperpaveTM rotational viscometer (RV), dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) instruments. The results indicate the addition of MMT increased the viscosity. Based on dynamic mechanical analysis with DSR, MMT modified binder has a potential to increase rutting and fatigue resistance. In terms of FTIR test, it appears that the chemical bonding had changed in the asphalt binder before and after RTFO and PAV aging which suggest that the additional of MMT could delay the aging process.

Resumen
Population ageing affects the entire world population. Also at world level one can observe a sharp increase in the proportion of older people. The challenge posed by population ageing translates into ensuring that the extra years of life will be as good as possible, free from high-cost dependency. Omega-3 fatty acids are now generally recognized as potential key nutrients to prevent the pathological conditions associated to the aging process. Ageing physiological process, its association with quality of life and the impact of omega-3 fatty acids intake and/or status is the focus of the present review. This report deals with the effects of omega-3 fatty acids on normal aging of older adults ( ≥ 65 years) mainly on the effects such as nutritional status itself, cognition, bone health, muscle tonus, and general health status. The preliminary broad search of the literature on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids on normal aging yielded 685 citations. Forty two full text papers were checked for inclusion and thirty six studies were finally included in this review. It may be concluded that paradoxically even though the elderly population is the largest one, the number of studies and the methodology employed clearly lacks of sufficient evidence to establish definite conclusions on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids on aging metabolism without pathological conditions and on quality of life.

Resumen
Objective: To investigate anti-aging effects of deoxyschizandrin in rats and its mechanisms. Methods: D-galactose (120mg • kg-1 • d-1) was subcutaneously injected daily for 6 weeks to build a rat aging model, and deoxyschizandrin (50,100 and 200 mg • kg-1 • d-1) was consecutively administered daily for six weeks from the second day. Morris water maze was used for the observation of learning and memorizing abilities of the rats; spectrophotometry was applied to detect malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities, Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-ATPase activities in the rats’ brain tissues. Results: The results showed that moderate-dose and high-dose deoxyschizandrin could improve learning and memorizing abilities of D-galactose-induced aging rats, enhance SOD, GSH-Px, Na+-K+- and Ca2+-ATPase activities, and reduce MDA levels in the rats’ brain tissues significantly (P <0.05 or P <0.01). Conclusion: deoxyschizandrin can improve rats’ learning and memorizing abilities, and its mechanisms may be associated with the increase in antioxidant enzymes such as SOD and GSH-Px in the body, the decrease in the production of MDA, the enhancement of ability to scavenge free radicals and inhibit lipid peroxidation to protect the brain cells from the damage by free radicals.

Resumen
Abstract Objectives Partnership status is a central predictor of loneliness. The strength of this predictive relationship, however, may decrease in the course of aging and over historical time. Moreover, there may be aging-related and historical changes in the satisfaction with partnership and singlehood. Method Longitudinal data from the German Ageing Survey (DEAS) assessed in 2008 and 2014 (N = 6,188, age range: 40–85 years) was analyzed with multigroup structural equation models to disentangle aging-related and historical changes in the relationship of partnership status and loneliness and in the average level of satisfaction with partnership and singlehood. Results With advancing age, partnership status became less predictive of loneliness and the satisfaction with being single increased. Among later-born cohorts, the association between partnership status and loneliness was less strong than among earlier-born cohorts. Later-born single people were more satisfied with being single than their earlier-born counterparts. There was no indication for an aging-related or historical decrease in partnership satisfaction. Discussion The relevance of partnership status as a predictor of social well-being is neither universal nor stable but appears to change in the course of aging and across historical time.

Resumen
Biological ageing is a process that changes living systems over time, causing impairments in their structure and function. Studying the individual biomarkers of ageing is regarded as the most plausible current theory of age-related inflammatory processes (inflammageing). According to this theory, slightly pronounced chronic aseptic inflammation develops during ageing, which is the basis for the pathogenesis of age-related syndromes and diseases. A key role in implementing different cellular interactions and in regulating the type of an inflammatory response is assigned to the cytokine status (nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1 (IL-1) and IL-6) in an elderly patient with age-related diseases, such as osteoarthritis (OA) and diabetes mellitus (DM), developed in the altered background. Anti-inflammatory drugs include chondroitin sulfate (CS) that, in addition to directly affecting the severity of pain syndrome in OA, also has a modulating effect on the level of systemic inflammation. Pharmaceutical CS plays an important role in tissue remodeling, cell proliferation, migration, and differentiation, apoptosis, activation and deactivation of chemokines and cytokines, by increasing the synthesis of hyaluronic acid and proteoglycans, by suppressing the synthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), IL-1, and IL-6 and the expression of cytokines and NF-κB. CS belongs to anti-aging drugs.

Resumen
In real practice, adhesively bonded structures are usually exposed to cyclic environmental conditions. However, cyclic ageing processes are relatively unexplored. The aim of this study is to consider the effect of cyclic ageing on the rate of water uptake and the drying process in an epoxy-based adhesive. Fick’s law was considered to estimate the water diffusion coefficients for the ageing and the drying steps at different cycles. Different cyclic ageing times have been considered in the ageing procedure. Dogbone shape specimens were also manufactured and subjected to cyclic aging to investigate the tensile properties of the tested adhesive as a function of aging cycles. The gravimetric results showed that the rate of water uptake and drying is mainly a function of the level of water uptake of the first ageing cycle. Tensile test results showed that the maximum water content increases with each subsequent ageing cycle. It was also found that the Young’s modulus and the tensile strength of the adhesive decreased significantly after the initial ageing cycle, but all subsequent ageing cycles have considerably less influence on the mechanical properties of the adhesive.
