Resumen
This paper investigates the differences in the temporal heterogeneity of soil moisture between natural restoration ecosystem without disturbance (named as eco-1), restoration ecosystem with disturbance (named as eco-2) and shrubs ecosystem (named as eco-3) in red soil hillside fields. The probe soil moisture measured at 20 and 40 cm below the soil surface Hydrosense Portable Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) system. The results showed that: (1) Daily measurements during a growing season showed significantly temporal interactions between vegetation and water. Soils under eco-2 (restoration ecosystem with disturbance) and eco-3 (shrubs ecosystem) were wettest at the start of the growing season but dries at the end; (2) The coefficient of variation of soil moisture content over time during the growing season was significantly higher in eco-2 than in eco-1, and at two depths beneath the soil surface (20 and 40 cm).

Resumen
The eco-restoration was a very effective measure to solve the problem of environmental pollution caused by the exposed mine surface in the stone coal mine site. In this study, the dominant plant, Indigofera amblyantha Craib, was well adapted to the eco-restoration in stone coal mining area. The changes of nutrient elements, pH, heavy metals in substrate material, the biological concentration/transfer factor, and the distribution and diversity of bacteria and fungi in rhizosphere soil were investigated. The results show that the plant communities help slow down the loss of nutrient elements and the increase of the concentrations of heavy metals in the eco-restoration process. The Indigofera amblyantha Craib had the advantaged ability to enrich and transfer Cd, Cu, Mn, and its diversity index of microbial communities in rhizosphere soils was higher than that of other quadrats. These excellent properties found in this work help reveal the insight into the adaptability of Indigofera amblyantha Craib in the eco-restoration of stone coal mines. It is valuable to evaluate Indigofera amblyantha Craib for eco-restoration engineering of stone coal mine and extend the application in heavy metal contaminated sites.

With some examples given, the paper points out six main misunderstandings that exist in eco-waterfront practice under Chinese background. It brings forward restoration of ecology as the principle to guide the waterfront constructions, and also offers some concrete methods through several designs. Here “restoration” has two meanings: one is that original meaning or intention should be given back to the word “ecology”; the other is instead of human’s inventing something ecological, local ecology characteristics should be given back to urban waterfront.

Resumen
Mangroves offer a range of globally acknowledged advantages, yet they continue to be lost and degraded. Efforts to restore lost mangroves using conventional techniques in high-energy areas result in low success rates due to the removal of seedlings via wave action. We assessed the efficacy of using modified Riley Encasement Methods in the restoration of mangroves in high-energy areas in Gazi Bay, Kenya. Vegetation and soil baseline data were collected in 49 square plots of 100 m2, which were established along belt transects perpendicular to the shoreline. The following mangrove vegetation data was collected: species composition, tree height (m), and stem diameter (cm). From these, the importance value index (IV), basal area, and standing density (stems/ha) were derived. Sediment cores were made in the center of each square plot for carbon and grain size analysis. Mangrove (Rhizophora mucronata) planting adopted a randomized complete block design (RCBD) in which the planting area was divided into three blocks (A, B, C). Within each block, treatments (bamboo and different-sized PVC pipes) were randomly assigned locations. The results of the study reveal significant variations in survival and growth rates among treatments. Higher survival rates were recorded for seedlings grown within PVC encasements (43%), surpassing bamboo (1%) and control groups (4%). Our findings suggest that PVC pipes were efficient in supporting and protecting seedlings from external forces. We expound on the implications of the results and highlight potential enhancements for the effectiveness of encasement technique in mangrove restoration.

Resumen
Eco-product value realization and eco-industry are in a rapid development stage, but the eco-product value realization mechanism is still unclear. Strengthening research on eco-industry and eco-product value realization not only helps to coordinate the relationship between regional ecologies and the economy but also contributes to regional sustainable development. This study conducted a systematic literature review based on related articles retrieved from the Web of Science database and China National Knowledge Infrastructure database. The results showed the following: (1) Regarding time series, the average annual number of published works in the literature from 2000 to 2017 is less than 4, while the average annual number of published works in the literature from 2018 to 2022 is more than 97. The overall study on eco-product value realization and eco-industry has shown a year-on-year growth trend. (2) The research content primarily involves five aspects, including the connotation and extension of eco-products, eco-product supply, eco-product value accounting, eco-product value realization, and eco-industry. (3) It is essential to deepen the study on the improvement mechanism of the eco-product supply capacity, eco-products property rights, evaluation system for eco-product value realization, ecological compensation mechanism, driving mechanism for eco-products to eco-industry, and coupled development of ecological restoration and eco-industry. Based on the above research, this paper presents an enlightment of the forest ecosystem services in the karst ecological restoration area from three aspects: enhancing the supply ability of eco-products, improving the compensation mechanism of forest ecological services, and coordinating the development of ecosystem services and eco-industries.

Service learning with ecological restoration projects can positively affect participants’ attitudes, behaviors, and learning, but little is known about the longevity of these effects. Furthermore, urban green spaces are an understudied, yet increasingly important, context for eco-restoration service learning. This study examined the persistence of student outcomes of eco-restoration service-learning experiences in an urban woodland. Undergraduate courses from the Departments of Biology and Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies at Indiana University partnered with the Bloomington Urban Woodlands Project (BUWP) to restore native woodland habitat and conduct public outreach. Phenomenological analysis of student interviews demonstrated that service-learning experiences improved learning outcomes and encouraged and reinforced pro-environmental attitudes up to 14 months later. Results also demonstrate the applicability of an environmental interpretation behavior change model to college-level instruction.

Resumen
The rational allocation of ecological and economic water is a topic of high interest for water resource sciences. Taking into consideration the difficulties to maintain the basic ecologic functions of rivers, we propose a calculation model for compensation for agricultural economic losses by restoration of the healthy eco-hydrological sequences of rivers. Firstly, healthy eco-hydrological sequence of rivers was constructed by assessing the response relationship between hydrological processes and ecological functions of ecological base flow of rivers. Following, the ecological water shortage was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Finally, the compensation for agricultural economic losses caused by restoration of healthy eco-hydrological sequence of rivers was calculated. Taking the Baoji section of the Weihe River as a case study, compensation for agricultural economic losses caused by the recovery of the healthy eco-hydrological sequence of rivers were calculated and further analyzed. The results show that the current water diversion in the area of study is excessive and the ecological water shortage is relatively obvious. The compensation for agricultural economic losses caused by the recovery of healthy eco-hydrological sequence of rivers mainly focus on the non-flood season, which is up to 218 million yuan for 2009 year.

Resumen
Abstract Ponds rehabilitation projects for the purpose of eco - rehabilitation following significant anthropogenic impacts or degradation are becoming more frequent but not always successful. Therefore, the experience of the restoration of the Lebyazhye system lakes in Kazan city (Russia) is interesting. Previously, the lake system used to consist of four ponds, but due to water catchment area reduction, the area of the lake system also decreased, and only one lake remained. The restoration of the Lebyazhye system lakes was carried out in 2017 and included the deepening of the basin of the Bolshoe and Svetloe Lebyazhye lakes to 4 m, the sealing of the bed of future ponds with bentonite mats, supplying water from Izumrudnoye lake through a pressure water conduit and filling the basin of the lakes with water. The research is devoted to the study of the restoration of zooplankton communities in the Lebyazhye system lakes. For this purpose, the indicators of zooplankton communities before and after eco-rehabilitation measures were compared. After the implementation of eco-rehabilitation measures, significant changes in environmental parameters were observed: the salinity of water decreased, the oxygen content in the water, pH increased. In zooplankton communities, the species richness and diversity increased, new species appeared, as well as those that lived in the lake system earlier before eco-rehabilitation measures were taken.

Resumen
This study conducted land cover classification and inversion analysis to estimate land surface temperature, soil moisture, specific humidity, atmospheric water vapor density, and relative humidity using remote sensing and multi-source mining data. Using 1990–2020 data from the Shendong mining area in Inner Mongolia, China, the eco-environmental evolution and the ecological cumulative effects (ECE) of mining operations were characterized and analyzed at a long-term scale. The results show that while the eco-environment was generally stable, mining activities affected the eco-environment at the initial stage (1990–2000) to a certain degree. During the rapid development stage of coal mining, the eco-environment was severely damaged, and the ECE were significant at the temporal scale. The absolute value of the change rate of ecological parameters was increasing. Due to an increased focus on ecological restoration, starting in 2010, the environmental indicators gradually stabilized and the eco-environment improved considerably, ushering in a period of stability for coal mining activities. The absolute value of the change rate of ecological parameters became stable. Analysis of the change in eco-environmental indicators with distance and comparison to the contrast area showed the ECE characteristics from mining disturbance at the spatial scale. This study shows that remote sensing technology can be used to characterize the ECE from mining operations and analyze eco-environmental indicators, providing crucial information in support of ecological protection and restoration, particularly in coal mining areas.

Abstract. River wetlands are heavily impacted by human intervention. The degradation and loss of river wetlands has made the restoration of river ecosystems a top priority. How to rehabilitate rivers and their services has been a research focus. The main goal of it is to restore the river wetland ecosystems with ecological methods. The Gudong River was selected as a study site in Chaoyang city in this study. Based on the analysis of interference factors in the river wetland degradation, a set of restoration techniques were proposed and designed for regional water level control, including submerged dikes, ecological embankments, revegetation and dredging. The restoration engineering has produced good results in water quality, eco-environment, and landscape. Monthly reports of the Daling River show that the water quality of Gudong River was better than Grade III in April 2013 compared with Grade V in May 2012. The economic benefit after restoration construction is 1.71 million RMB per year, about 1.89 times that before. The ratio of economic value, social value and eco-environmental value is 1:4:23.

Resumen
The current state of the environment caused by irrational nature management necessitates the search for new approaches in the field of restoration and protection of biotic and landscape diversity. The new strategy for its protection is an ecological network that is being developed in Ukraine according to European requirements at the national, regional, and local levels. An integral part of the national eco-network is the territory of Podillia, for which an important topical issue is increasing the productivity of ecosystems and stabilising the ecological balance. One of the ways to optimise the regional eco-network of Podillia is to search for promising territories and include them in structural elements that will ensure its spatial integrity and representativeness. The most common objects of mining and industrial landscapes are quarrydump complexes that are original in their origin, structure, conditions, natural properties, spatial location, features of the geological structure, the nature of the biotic-landscape structure, and economic development. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify and describe the specific features of mining and industrial landscapes that require a set of measures for renaturalisation (reclamation, restoration of natural vegetation, reintroduction, etc.) within the latitudinal Buzhotsko-Buzko-Vovksko-Smotrytskyi eco-corridor of the regional eco-network of Podillia. General scientific (analysis, synthesis), laboratory and field methods, monitoring, comparison and statistical processing methods were used in this study. Factors of influence for the restoration of disturbed ecosystems of mining and industrial landscapes of Podillia were determined on the example of the Andriikovetskyi sand quarry and dump complex. It is established that edaphic conditions, elemental composition and organic matter content in the newly formed substrate, atypical relief, which differs sharply from the natural one, have the greatest influence. With the implementation of a set of measures for renaturalisation, the proposed quarry-dump complex can become a centre of zonal biodiversity as a renewable site – as a structural element of the regional eco-network

Resumen
This study investigates the impact of forest area mining on reclaimed limestone mined areas in Sahastradhara, Uttarakhand, India. Initiated in 1989-90, eco-restoration efforts aimed at rehabilitating the mined areas resulted in restoration ages of 25, 24, and 23 years across different sites. The study comprehensively examined vegetation and soil physicochemical properties at various depths, revealing the dominance of species like Murrayakoenigii, Acacia catechu, Vitex negundo, Eupatorium adenophorum, Grevillea robusta, and Lantana camara. Soil analyses unveiled variations in moisture content, bulk density, and coarse fragment percentage across the sites, a rise in organic carbon, phosphorous, and nitrogen levels, showcasing soil improvement post-restoration. Correlation analyses unveiled interrelationships between soil properties, emphasizing the importance of organic matter in influencing soil acidity. Vegetation analyses at different sites revealed evolving plant communities, with prominent species contributing to the ecological richness. The Importance Value Index (IVI) and Shannon Weiner Index (H') provided insights into species dominance and biodiversity. The results showed that the soil pH was slightly basic, and the available phosphorus and nitrogen levels were within the optimal range for plant growth. However, the bulk density and electrical conductivity values were higher than the recommended range. This study contributes valuable insights into the intricate interplay between mining activities, vegetation dynamics, and soil health, guiding future ecological restoration endeavors in similar contexts. The study concluded that the eco-restoration work carried out in the area has been successful in restoring the vegetation, but further assessment is required to ensure the long-term success of the restoration efforts.

Resumen
Batam’s waters are a very busy sea lane and important for regional and international trade. High maritime activity, including the traffic of cargo ships, tankers, cruise ships, and passenger vessels, is an integral part of the economic and transportation life of the region. However, as a consequence of heavy maritime activity, the risk of ship accidents increases and is often a serious concern for those involved in the shipping industry and governments. Ship accidents can cause oil spills, dangerous chemicals, and other waste that can pollute waters, and beaches, and affect marine animal and plant life. This research uses normative research methods with qualitative analysis. This research aims to determine the application of the eco liability principle in marine pollution due to ship accidents in Batam waters. One of the concepts proposed to address the environmental impact of ship accidents is eco-liability, which is environmental responsibility.A method that focuses on comprehending and rebuilding marine ecosystems is needed to apply the notion of eco-liability to combat marine pollution caused by ship accidents. The concept of eco liability focuses on environmental restoration so that each polluter is responsible for providing compensation for environmental restoration efforts carried out through coordination between the central government and regional governments. To compensate for damage caused by oil pollution sufferers and control civil liabilities brought on by pollution accidents, international treaties have been formed.

There was less vegetation on the bare slope of mountainous area due to sterile soil in Beijing than other places. Soil and water loss was so serious that vegetation restoration became important one of ecological engineering. So experiment was executed to plant eco-grass on the bare slope in Miyun reservoir watershed and Guanting reservoir watershed, and study effect of eco-grass on soil and water conservation. The results indicated that vegetation restored quickly on the bare slope of mountainous area after eco-grass planted for a year, roughness length on the earth’s surface increased, and soil and water loss reduced clearly. Meanwhile soil bulk density reduced, and soil infiltration and available nutrients increased obviously. So soil physical and chemical properties improved batter in a short time than no eco-grass.

Resumen
The restoration of historical monuments using eco-friendly materials such as geopolymer is a good aspect that is being developed for a more sustainable approach. It takes into account several factors such as cultural heritage preservation, durability, and environmental sustainability [1]. While providing excellent durability and strength properties when submerged in different environmental conditions, the use of geopolymer material in the restoration of old sandstone rocks can significantly reduce the carbon footprint associated with traditional construction materials. This approach can support the preservation of cultural heritage by maintaining the monument’s original aesthetics and offering a long-term solution for its restoration [2]. Overall, a sustainable restoration approach that incorporates geopolymer material can be environmentally friendly while assisting in the long-term preservation of cultural assets.

Resumen
The Forestry Ecological Restoration Program (FERP) aims to restore the world’s degraded forest landscapes to restore biodiversity and mitigate climate change. Scientific evaluation of eco-efficiency of forestry restoration programs (EEoFERPs) is the basis for developing and implementing inclusive and sustainable development policy measures. We take the world’s largest FERP—China’s Sloping Land Conversion Program (SLCP)—as an example. Using 314 county-level panel data in the Loess Plateau, the core area for the implementation of the SLCP, during 2002–2015, this study aims to evaluate the eco-efficiency of the Sloping Land Conversion Program (EEoSLCP) based on a DEA model and to measure the eco-efficiency dynamic changes through a Malmquist index model. The results show that: (1) The overall EEoSLCP of the Loess Plateau is at a low level, with an average efficiency of only 0.357 from 2002 to 2015. EEoSLCP is on an overall upward trend, mainly influenced by technical efficiency. (2) There are significant spatial differences in EEoSLCP among counties on the Loess Plateau, with an overall decreasing distribution trend from south to north and from southeast to northwest. (3) The Malmquist index of the EEoSLCP grew at an average annual rate of 17.7%, with technical efficiency changes being the most important factor driving its growth. Our results suggest that in the future, when implementing or designing FERPs, it is necessary not only to select the appropriate restoration plan precisely while respecting the laws of nature, but also to improve the management and technical level of FERPs accordingly.

Resumen
As eco–environmental effects have become important considerations in the construction and planning of production, living, and ecological spaces, we used a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze the eco–environmental effects’ spatiotemporal evolution and present appropriate ideas for ecological restoration based on the land use data. The results show that during the research period both an improvement and degradation of the regional eco–environment occurred simultaneously. In the earlier period, the ecological environment tended to be worse, while in the later period, the eco–environmental quality was dramatically enhanced. Pasture ecological land in the study area had the strongest positive impact on the eco–environmental quality, while the negative effect of agricultural production land was severe. The quality of the regional eco−environment was enhanced (degraded) due to the extension (contraction) of ecological land. The construction of an ecological environment is a complex engineering task. Although the eco−environment in most areas of the study area showed an improving trend, the overall eco–environment remains relatively fragile. In the course of supporting high–quality regional social and economic growth and pursuing high–level environmental preservation strategies, we should take corresponding measures to protect and repair the regional ecological environment.

Resumen
Quantitative assessment of ecological vulnerability is of great significance for ecological protection and restoration in ecologically vulnerable regions. Here, the ecological vulnerability of the northern sand prevention belt (NSPB) of China was assessed using an ecological pressure–sensibility–resilience model from 2000 to 2015. Results showed that the ecological vulnerability index (EVI) displayed low values in the eastern part and high values in the western part of the study region. The EVI ranged from 0.29 to 1.32 in 2000, with the mean value of 0.88, whereas it averaged 0.78 in 2015, ranging from 0.21 to 1.26. Decreasing EVI from 2000 to 2015 indicated that the ecological status has been improved. Moreover, the area proportion of moderately, heavily, and extremely ecological vulnerability levels occupied approximately 87% in both 2000 and 2015, indicating a high ecological vulnerability level. Furthermore, the change in area proportion of different ecological vulnerability levels were associated with the change in the spatial distribution of vegetation coverage, indicating that eco-environmental protection projects were indeed effective. These findings indicated that differential strategies in different restoration zones should be adopted, especially in the western parts of the study region, and eco-environmental protection projects should be reinforced to improve the ecological restoration.

Resumen
Ecological imbalance is now a global concern for the last few decades. It’s a multi-facet problem that includes climate change, loss of biodiversity, the decline in food production, and decline in quality of soil, air, and water. The UN adopted ‘The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,' where it has set up 17 goals as the instruments for attaining sustainable development. It is an inclusive and integrated developmental approach. So, every stakeholder of the society should be incorporated to attain the goal of sustainable development. Unfortunately, the tribal communities, the men of nature, are the most neglected ones in the planning process. This research paper prospecting the possibilities that how pooling the tribal ecological knowledge from different tribal communities and infusing those in modern scientific knowledge for the production of new knowledge can be instrumental in attaining the goals of sustainable development.

Resumen
Evaluation and dynamic evolution of eco-efficiency of resource-based cities is of great significance for ecological restoration, industrial transformation and sustainable development of resource-based cities. Based on the data of 40 resource-based cities from 2012 to 2017, we first study eco-efficiency of resource-based cities from both static and dynamic aspects by super-efficiency DEA and the Malmquist index. Additionally, then, we analyze its dynamic evolution trend by Kernel density estimation. The main results are as follows: First, the eco-efficiency shows a steady growth trend; growing cities are the highest, followed by regenerative cities and mature cities, declining cities are the lowest. Second, technological progress has the greatest contribution to growth of eco-efficiency, and scale efficiency restricts its growth. Third, efficiency distribution of resource-based cities with different life cycles show different characteristics of evolution, and the regional gap is narrowing gradually. Finally, management implications are put forward based on the empirical conclusions.
