Resumen
We investigate the effect of four-dimensional matrix transformation on new classes of double sequences. Stretchings of a double sequence is defined, and this definition is used to present a four-dimensional analogue of D. Dawson's copy theorem for stretching of a double sequence. In addition, the multidimensional analogue of D. Dawson's copy theorem is used to characterize convergent double sequences using stretchings.

We measured the mean and variance of end-to-end length in short DNA fragments in solution and reported evidence of DNA stretching that is cooperative over more than two turns of the double helix. Becker and Everaers suggest that the structural fluctuations we observed arise from bending motions of the DNA, rather than stretching. We present three experimental tests of this bending-based explanation.

Resumen
The interest in complex plasmas is increasing due to the multiple applications they target (astrophysics, plasma fusion, industry, etc.). A crystal with two vortexes made of spherical microparticles that levitates in an rf plasma interacts with a gas jet. The crystal is displaced in the jet propagation direction due to the neutral pushing force, maintaining its vortex structure. The crystal shift also involves a change of its shape, especially at the level of the two vortexes. One vortex is stretched, and the other one is compressed. During the three phases of modification of the shape of the crystal, its length is approximately constant, about 12.5 mm, this being a consequence of the fact that electric forces and ion drag forces are preserved. The orderly structure of the crystal lasts until the particles begin to fall on the bottom electrode. The changing of the vorticity in the crystal regions can be attributed to the neutral push force.

Mathew-Fenn et al. (Reports, 17 October 2008, p. 446) reported unexpected distance fluctuations in short end-labeled DNA constructs and interpreted them as evidence for cooperative DNA stretching modes. We show that when accounting for a subtle linker leverage effect, their data can be understood within standard noncooperative DNA elasticity.

Resumen
Multiple biological processes involve the stretching of nucleic acids (NAs). Stretching forces induce local changes in the molecule structure, inhibiting or promoting the binding of proteins, which ultimately affects their functionality. Understanding how a force induces changes in the structure of NAs at the atomic level is a challenge. Here, we use all-atom, microsecond-long molecular dynamics to simulate the structure of dsDNA and dsRNA subjected to stretching forces up to 20 pN. We determine all of the elastic constants of dsDNA and dsRNA and provide an explanation for three striking differences in the mechanical response of these two molecules: the threefold softer stretching constant obtained for dsRNA, the opposite twist-stretch coupling, and its nontrivial force dependence. The lower dsRNA stretching resistance is linked to its more open structure, whereas the opposite twist-stretch coupling of both molecules is due to the very different evolution of molecules’ interstrand distance with the stretching force. A reduction of this distance leads to overwinding in dsDNA. In contrast, dsRNA is not able to reduce its interstrand distance and can only elongate by unwinding. Interstrand distance is directly correlated with the slide base-pair parameter and its different behavior in dsDNA and dsRNA traced down to changes in the sugar pucker angle of these NAs.

Resumen
Raman spectra of solutions of alkali metal perchlorates in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in the Cl—O, C—S, and S=O stretching regions, as well as of perchlorates in aqueous solutions in the Cl—O stretching region are reported. The results are discussed in terms of half-bandwidths, relative intensities, and depolarization ratios. For H2O the half-bandwidth of the Cl—O stretching band at ~935 cm−1 is almost double the value in DMSO solutions. Solutions of perchlorates in DMSO show two symmetric bands in the Cl—O stretching region, whereas in aqueous solutions only one band is observed. The half-bandwidths in perchlorate solutions in DMSO for the C—S stretching band increase with increase in concentration of perchlorate compared to that of liquid DMSO. The band contours in the S=O stretching region in DMSO solutions also show significant changes. These observations are explained on the basis of formation of ion pairs of metal perchlorates in solutions of DMSO and ion hydrates in the case of aqueous solutions.

On this thesis we can see four parts : the first part draw up a balance sheet to have an advantage by internet on the contraction and release muscular suggest a range of techniques for bibliographical searchs on the web, to access of search's motors, guides and general portals in the strict context of the present subject. For this work, we were used neuro-sciences and their physical applications, that seems more familiar when people means his pioneers Bob Anderson and Brad Appleton. On the second part, we speak about an experimentation on the hamstring muscles realized by Sihvonen in 1997, but for the same experienc"e precursors were Floyd and Siver in 1951. We checked a part, of their works but with a different population constituted by young and supple female subjects because we can watch better the role of the elastic componentes.
This thesis investigates the properties and behavior under stress of a class of non-Newtonian fluids known asviscoelastic fluids. These fluids are composed of high-molar-mass molecules, giving them both viscous and elasticcharacteristics. Their extensional deformation reveals complex dynamics, such as the formation of the "beads-ona-string" structure.A specific application of this study focuses on the multiple interactions between expiratory events and salivaparticles within a human oral cavity. These interactions can lead to the formation of bead-on-string structures andresult in the ejection of viscoelastic particles, in various forms, out of the oral cavity. To model and study these interactions, an experimental setup was designed. This setup simulates the doublestretching of viscoelastic fluids prepared from polyethylene oxide in a controlled environment. It allows for statisticalstudies on the extensional properties of the fluid, as well as the exploration of the disruption of viscoelastic fluidparticles by an air flow. The high repeatability of the experiment enabled tracking of particle movements with hightemporal resolution.Furthermore, the nature of the fluid particle deformations necessitates the use of three-dimensional imagingmethods. To this end, a digital holography setup was developed and calibrated. Particular attention was paid tocharacterizing the holography system to avoid measurement biases during the localization and description of objects.Additionally, an innovative method for detecting the focal plane was developed. Based on the phase distribution ofthe complex amplitude, this method enhances the accuracy of 3D object localization

Resumen
In the introduction to his great work of 2005, Framing the Early Middle Ages, Chris Wickham urged not only the necessity of carefully framing our studies at the outset but also the importance of closely defining the words and concepts that we employ, the avoidance ‘cultural sollipsism’ wherever possible and the need to pay particular attention to continuities and discontinuities. Chris has, of course, followed these precepts on a vast scale. My aim in this chapter is a modest one. I aim to review the framing of thirteenth-century England in terms of two only of Chris’s themes: the aristocracy and the state—and even then primarily in terms of the relationship between the two. By the thirteenth century I mean a long thirteenth century stretching from the period of the Angevin reforms of the later twelfth century on the one hand to the early to mid-fourteenth on the other; the reasons for taking this span will, I hope, become clearer during the course of the chapter, but few would doubt that it has a validity.

Resumen
Since the rise of analytical philosophy, the relation of philosophy and its past is more hotly debated among philosophers than ever. Some scholars analyse historical texts without reference to current debates and their terminology, while others pursue first-order philosophy by focusing on problems instead of doxography—that is, without reference to their predecessors. A growing group, though, doubts that philosophy can be studied effectively on the basis of this sharp division. But does the study of the history of philosophy contribute to current philosophy? And, if it does, what precisely is the contribution? Does making such a contribution depend on using a specific method which determines how the historical perspective is related to systematic philosophy and philosophy in general? More generally, how do our assumptions about the relationship between historical and systematic perspectives affect our methodology and metaphilosophy or philosophy of philosophy? This volume presents and debates answers to these questions, which deserve to be addressed in their own right and not just as an adjunct to other discussions. The contributors of this volume provide diverse answers based on historical references, stretching from ancient philosophy to the most current debates, and also refer to various philosophical sub-disciplines.

Resumen
Abstract When discussing the Middle East’s digital turn, it is essential to recognize inherent disjunctures between the predigital and the digital: between “old” media that clings to print publications, radio stations, and satellite television and “new” media that embraces and promotes the use of software, portals, social media, and streaming services. Yet all these media share overlapping dynamics, varying by specific sectors, demographics, and infrastructure. As the digital turn unfolds, the predigital and digital continue to overlap and blur rigid demarcations, often creating tensions stretching into everyday life. This chapter captures manifestations of these tensions within three categories: national and regional infrastructure, governance and investments, and publics and users.

Resumen
This chapter reviews models which describe the elastic properties of stretched polymers—the Kratky–Porod, Freely Jointed Chain (FJC), and Worm-Like Chain (WLC) models—and the effect of self-avoidance on results derived from these. The models are compared with double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) stretching experiments. Dynamics of a single polymer in the presence (Zimm model) or absence (Rouse model) of hydrodynamic interactions between its segments is described, and results on the dynamics of dsDNA and ssDNA of various lengths are discussed. Theoretical and experimental behaviour of twisted DNA is described, deducing the molecule’s torsional modulus and its coupling between stretching and twisting. After discussing the braiding of two DNA molecules and simulation of the twisting and stretching of DNA molecules, this chapter describes the results of stretching experiments on ssDNA and RNA, where self-avoiding and base-pairing interactions contribute to elastic behaviour.

Abstract The Maldives are a double chain of islands in the Indian Ocean stretching for almost 1000 km south of Sri Lanka (74,75). There are more than 1200 islands (only 202 are inhabited), grouped into 19 atolls. The word atoll itself comes from Dhivehi, a Sinhalese dialect which is the language of the Maldives, and means an administrative district (4). The name Maldives is believed to have originated from the Sanskrit word malodheep, meaning garland, presumably from the appearance of the chain of islands from the deck of a ship. Marco Polo called the Maldives ‘the flower of the Indies’.

The current study was carried out to determine the wavelengths (λmax) and frequency in Lablab purpureus (L.) (L. purpureus) leaves by using molecular spectroscopic technics (FT-IR spectroscopy and UV-Vis Spectrophotometry). A series of extracts were prepared by using solvents (polar and non-polar solvents) and Lablab purpureus dried leaves powder. The polar (double-distilled water, ethanol, and ethyl acetate) and the non-polar solvent extracts (carbon tetrachloride and hexane) were put into the FT-IR spectroscopy and UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. The FT-IR spectra give various peaks at different frequencies in synthesized extracts showing a different functional group with stretching frequencies which represents the carboxylic acids, amides, esters, etc. And also obtained absorbance values corresponding wavelengths from UVVis spectrophotometer. From the spectral results, the presence of absorption peaks may be arising due to active biomolecules in the leaf extract with various solvents. According to all wavelengths, highly conjugated molecules are present

Resumen
Abstract ‘It’s night already and I’m still sat at the trading desk, staring at the screen where the price history of the past twenty or so trading periods zigzags so teasingly. Now the trading frenzy is at its most intense, I have just scored five consecutive successful trades, a feat I never achieved previously during the whole day. I feel euphoric and invincible now, for the first time after countless hours’ numb sitting I can stretch my aching neck and back, savouring the prospect of getting the upper hand of the seemingly indomitable market. In hindsight I might blame my previous bluntness on my own miscalculations: wasn’t that moving average line stretching far out of the previous range, and I failed to react, for wanting to play contrarian? That double-shoulder on the trading chart was full of warning bells of imminent perils, but I stuck obstinately to my position. I saw that mini-crash coming and should have gotten out of my position way before ... had I not been too greedy! Yet invincible I feel now, even though I’m still under for the day, having suffered huge losses during the afternoon session, and on a few times I was on the brink of being wiped out entirely of my authorized loss limit. My rival traders are invisible, for me they are just emotionless professionals ready to prey on any mistakes on my part, and on their fellow traders. But as my last straight winning track shows, I finally see through their schemes. The price history indicates that we have just come out from one of the characteristic volatility clusters—currently the slow, steady upward trend confirms my gut feeling that finally I can outsmart those cunning, bastard traders on the other side.

This chapter explores new innovation for libraries in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic: SWOT. It highlights various areas in which the pandemic is stretching the thinking of libraries to embrace new innovations. Thereby, it creates a new environment for libraries to work. It also outlines the SWOT of COVID-19 for libraries, especially the intensive, drastic adoption and deployment of technological innovations that have been under-utilised over the years. It is no doubt that new innovation for services delivery were birthed in the lockdown globally by libraries and other organisations. Similarly, it evaluates the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) associated with the new innovation for libraries in era of the COVID-19 pandemic. Useful recommendations were made.

Resumen
The triumph of liberal constitutionalism in Europe after 1989 appeared to herald the end of a hard, limiting (nation) statehood and thereby to increasingly suspend the key function of citizenship—the granting of political affiliation, security, equality, and freedom. Human rights-based protections of individual freedom, as well as the legal consolidation and geographical expansion of European integration, call for new transnational concepts and institutions of political affiliation, which find their focus in European Union citizenship. However, this chapter, stretching from 1989 to the present, analyses how new, conflict-laden disputes about the borders of nation-states and their political affiliation are reviving old rivalries, particularly in the eastern states of the “New Europe.” The return to a protective concept of citizenship defining political affiliation according to imperial motives or ethnic criteria justifies doubts about the influential thesis claiming convergence in citizenship policy in Europe. The crises of Brexit, anti-immigration populism, and Covid instead remind citizens of Europe of their nationality.

Resumen
The morphology of the current transformation of the 21st century can be examined with the tools of Polanyi's analysis of the great transformation (TGT). The previous profound socio-economic transformation was connected to the Industrial Revolution that created industrial-urban societies. The first Industrial Revolution was localized as the most eloquent example in England 1750-1850, overarching only a century and followed by further waves of industrial revolutions stretching the new socio-economic system toward a globalized order. There is no doubt that the changes of the 21st century are unprecedented and far-reaching. The considerations about which changes exactly are transforming our global realities are manifold but can be grouped at least into two main strands: those concerned about the transformation of socio-economic systems to preserve and to redefine ecological systems and those that focus on the impact of the digital or platform economy reformulating fundamental institutions, such as markets, governance, and ownership.

Resumen
In the late 20th century, a time when many Europeans protested against the corporate conquest of their food shops and farmlands, the sentiments expressed above were no doubt commonplace. The quotation, however, dates back to the 1889 International Hygiene Conference in Paris. Then as now, scientific and technological innovations and the expanding reach of “merchant companies” were stretching the geographic and biological limits of food supply, and sowing controversy along the way. On one hand, food was getting cheaper, more abundant, and more varied, especially in cities. On the other hand, food was coming from farther away and passing through more hands, and national governments could not assure that it was safe or truthfully marketed. As the conference-goers acknowledged, national borders were not stopping either epidemics or the trade in “falsified products.” The period between the mid-19th and early 20th centuries bears further examination not simply because it saw anxieties and controversies over food remarkably similar to those of the turn-of-the millennium period. In addition, events and developments of this era set the stage for contemporary food globalization through diverse and culturally distinctive commodity networks. With Europe’s colonization of Africa came the establishment of enduring relation ships of trade, aid, and investment in African food production. With the emergence of the bureaucratic welfare state, corporate food processing and retailing, and new food sciences and technologies, it became possible to provide the mass market with reasonably safe and wholesome food; with growing consumer awareness and activism, it became both economically and politically necessary. With the emergence of an urban bourgeois society devoted to gastronomy— the “science of taste”—both the French state and French farmers realized food’s power as an expression of natural and national distinction—a distinction that strengthened national consciousness around food on both sides of the Channel. In short, this era saw what turned out to be a number of pivotal debates and struggles over how to define and best provide for food safety and quality. It was also an era when metropolitan elites looked to their expanding overseas empires not just to enrich national economies but also to consolidate nationhood.

Resumen
Abstract Biological cells are known to respond to mechanical forces. Diverse biological phenomena such as tissue development and cancer are regulated by mechanical forces acting on cells. One such mechanical loading found in various tissues such as alveoli, pericardium, blood vessels, and urinary bladder is biaxial stretching. To study the effect of such a loading pattern, it is necessary to develop mechanical tools that can apply controlled biaxial stretching on cells. Here we present the design for such a device, a compliant micromechanism for biaxially stretching single cells. We first designed a compliant, double-input, biaxial stretching mechanism based on re-entrant structures. Various stretch ratios, defined as the ratio between deformations in orthogonal directions, could be obtained by changing the dimensions of this mechanism. Next, we derived an analytical expression relating the geometric parameters to the stretch ratio. This analytical expression was verified using finite element analysis. By numerically solving this expression, multiple designs for a desired stretch ratio were obtained. Furthermore, we converted our design into a single-input mechanism by coupling the double-input biaxial stretcher to a single-input gripper mechanism. Finally, we demonstrate the functioning of our design using a macroscale, 3D-printed version.

Resumen
In this study, static deflection and Instability of double-clamped nanobeams actuated by electrostatic field and intermolecular force, are investigated. The model accounts for the electric force nonlinearity of the excitation and for the fringing field effect. Effects of mid-plane stretching and axial loading are considered. Galerkin’s decomposition method is utilized to convert the nonlinear differential equation of motion to a nonlinear algebraic equation which is solved using the homotopy perturbation method. The effect of the design parameters such as axial load and mid-plane stretching on the static responses and pull-in instability is discussed. Results are in good agreement with presented in the literature.

Resumen
Flame stretching in a room with a ceiling vent will be discussed in this short note. A small model was constructed with a pool fire placed inside. Another pool fire of the same size and amount of fuel was burnt outside the model. The flame lengths of the two fires were measured and compared. It is observed that the flame length of the pool fire inside the model was higher than that outside. The value was even double at the later stage of the fire.

Resumen
Fiber optic Fourier transform spectrometer(FTS) may find its applications in gas sensing, space astronomy, etc. because of its compactness, low cost, etc.. Similarly, Fiber optic double Fourier interferometer is very attractive for double Fourier interferometric imaging(DFII) with telescope array. In both fiber optic FTS and fiber optic DFII, all optical operations are carried out with guided optics(optical fiber and directional coupler). Beams are transported in fibers. Beam splitting and combining are performed by directional couplers. Optical path delay is generated by stretching fibers(or, probably with combination with optical switchs) which are usually wrapped onto piezoelectric(p/z) tubes driven by high voltage.

Resumen
Preparing highly vibrationally excited molecules by vibrational-overtone excitation and probing them or their reaction products spectroscopically provides new information on the interaction of high- and low-frequency modes. We use three different approaches in which we probe the excited molecule by laser-induced fluorescence, by monitoring unimolecular reaction products spectroscopically, or by photodissociating the vibrationally excited molecule and probing the dissociation products spectroscopically. The "action" spectra coming from these measurements show the influence that the excitation of stretching vibrations has on other vibrations in the molecule. One example is the interaction of the O-H stretching vibration with the torsion in hydroperoxides (HOOX), such as hydrogen peroxide (x = H) and t-butyl-hydroperoxide (x = t - bu). Our analysis shows that the height of the lower barrier in the double-minimum potential of these molecules increases with increasing-O-H stretching excitation.

Resumen
Traditional pulse stretcher/compressor systems [1,2] have relied on high-groove-density gratings (~2000 l/mm) for systems operating in the 800-nm wavelength regime. These highly dispersive gratings provide significant stretching and compressing of >100-fs pulses in a relatively compact system. In addition, high-groove-density gratings are very efficient, typically yielding a 70% net throughput for a double-passed compressor. However, while these gratings work well for stretching and compressing >100-fs pulses, the alignment sensitivity of traditional high-groove systems makes them almost unusable for pulses shorter than 100 fs. Here we present a novel high-groove-density grating compressor which has relaxed alignment tolerances and can be used with ultrashort pulses.
