Her name was not as ovation as that of other Nobel Prize winners since their method of working, X-ray crystallography for the analysis of complex molecules was still pioneering and little disseminated among laboratories of the time. It was the search for exact solutions to difficult problems that motivated Dorothy to overcome wartime, experimental setbacks, marriage demands, maternity, and persistent physical pain to become one of the greatest scientists of the century. In this work we will briefly present the life of Dorothy, her childhood far from her parents and rich in cultural experiences, her youth and the difficulties that preceded her entrance into the University and her life as a researcher, and more specifically, we will talk about her collaboration for the solution of molecular structure of penicillin in the scene of World War II. Our goal is to present the Doroty works, anchored in her original published and her biographies in order to contribute with the dissemination of history of women in science. Keywords: Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin; Penicillin; Women in Science.

Resumen
Abstract Food practices (preparation and consumption) have long been viewed as mere domestic routines, and thus, often dismissed for being too “frivolous [a] realm” to receive the same scholarly attention as “great topics” such as “politics, economics, justice and power” (Shapiro 2). Emerging during the 1970s, food studies owe their theoretical model to research in fields of enquiry such as anthropology, sociology, structuralism, or women's studies, which have highlighted the aesthetic value of food and its transformative implications for the intermediation of social relations with others. Accordingly, food occasions various socio-cognitive activities that help an individual achieve a sense of attachment and belonging to a community. Based on the premise that food is instrumental in social relations, as well as in expressing a wide range of values, experiences and emotions, the present analysis gives an insight into the epistemic potential of food to attribute new meanings to Dorothy Wordsworth's Grasmere memoir. Laura Shapiro's non-fictional account, What She Ate: Six Remarkable Women and the Food that Tells their Stories Laura Shapiro's What She Ate consists of the biographies of six notable female figures from different centuries and continents and highlights the importance of food in making them “recognizable” throughout history (7). Shapiro's collection of these women's personal stories and struggles gives insight into the more subtle meanings of food and its capacity to restore the balance of power between genders. In each story, food shapes the character's mind and body through evocations of endurance, resilience, internalized oppression, political statement or trendsetting dietary habits. serves as a useful starting point for the present reading of Wordsworth's Grasmere Journal as food narrative that has family relations, daily experiences and emotions constantly mediated through food. In brief, The Journal represents an intimate record of Dorothy's life, household activities and personal observations of the (natural and social) world surrounding Dove Cottage, which she shared with her famous sibling, Romantic poet, William Wordsworth, between May 1800 and January 1803. In this sense, I propose a constructivist-relational approach to Dorothy's narrative as interconnected with food, with the primary aim to explore how her numerous food references in the Journal contribute to the construction of her personal narrative and identity. As posited here, The Grasmere Journal offers a glimpse of Dorothy and William Wordsworth's dietary, social and writing routines, but also projects an image of Dorothy in a position of power, a woman ahead of her time, with a progressive stance, which goes beyond the societal expectations with regard to women's domestic role during the Romantic period.

Resumen
The article presents an analysis of the genesis of the genre of animal autobiography in English literature at the turn of the 18th–19th centuries. The emergence, formation and evolution of the genre is considered in three contexts. The ideas of Adam Smith and David Hume together with the pedagogical teachings of John Locke and Sarah Trimmer form the central philosophi cal concepts of the new genre: sentimental feeling, sympathy, concern for the well-being of another living being. Comparison of the animal autobiography with “novel of circulation”, a popular in the XVIII century type of novel about adventures of a thing, focuses readers atten tion on animate and inanimate narrator which leads to the didactics of a new genre. Auto biographical narratives such as “The Life and Perambulations of a Mouse” of Dorothy Kilner, “Adventures of a Donkey” of Arabella Argus, and “Black Beauty” of Anna Sewell are studied in the context of the 18th and 19th century novel culture and since the authors of such autobiogra phies were predominantly women, who were responsible for caregiving and education, within the female narrative strategies in biographies. Written over two centuries ago by women who appropriated the voices of animals and spoke of their well-being, animal autobiographies are studied in terms of ecofeminist critique and human-animal studies. It is concluded that this genre may be regarded as an enlightenment project, which had and still has not only a didac tic, but also an emancipatory function.

Resumen
The article presents an analysis of the “Life” of Mrs. Dorothy Lawson made by her chaplain, Jesuit William Palmes in the mid–17th c. (1646–1650). The “Life” of Mrs. Lawson was intended for the women of the English Catholic community, nuns and lay-women. The text revealed a post–Trident model of religious life adopted for the realities of the life of Catholics in England. It is shown that to describe the devotional practices of Dorothy Law-son, her biographer had to picture the actions of women that set them on collision course with secular and ecclesiastical authorities, and also contradicted the accepted gender stereotypes. The article is followed by a Russian translation of the “Life”, with commentaries.

Griffin, Connie D. "eX-centricities: A geo/graphics of self-re/presentation in the autobiographics of Dorothy Allison, Minnie Bruce Pratt, and Kim Chernin". 1998. https://scholarworks.umass.edu/dissertations/AAI9841876.

Texto completo
Resumen
Working at the intersections of various disciplinary axes, this dissertation brings together contradictory elements to create a postmodern feminist critique of the "autobiographics" of three American women writers, Dorothy Allison, Minnie Bruce Pratt, and Kim Chernin, whose works enter into current conversations about the contemporary subject, story, and representation. This study explores thirteen self-representational works that cross numerous genres to examine how these writers foreground the mediating role of language in self-construction, but refuse to surrender the self to language. Close readings of selections from these texts suggest that, although socio-cultural symbolic systems are often motivated by efforts to control, social scripts are continually under processes of revision, as are histories and individual subjects. Drawing on Thomas Kuhn's scientific theory or shifting paradigms, this study illustrates how apparently fixed structures and systems are in fact fluid forms always in the process of change. The concept of "eX-centricities" that is worked with in this dissertation is linked to the politics and possibilities of moving beyond (as in time) and outside (as in space) traditional cultural and literary "centrist" thinking. It suggests a perspective that is in concert with contemporary physics, which suggests that all systems are dynamic, multifaceted, interdependent, and mutually influencing. Such a perspective argues that postmodern tropes do not arrive on the contemporary landscape as abstract theory, but from the lived reality of plurality, marginalization, annihilation, mobility, and partial positionality within constantly changing configurations. Within such systems, "universal truths" are problematized, and although patterns do arise, difference and diversity become as significant as sameness and commonality. In deconstructing the cultural matrices of dominant socio-symbolic systems, Allison, Pratt, and Chernin fracture those frames that have been constructed to contain some self-representational stories while privileging others. By foregrounding what has been in the background, these "autobiographics" create a geo/graphically transformative shift in perspective that brings the invisible into view. By seizing authority for self-representation, these writers show that "the subject" who has purported to be "universally representative" has in fact been merely another eX-centric point of view.
