Resumen
This is truly an international gathering, as befits the IAU. We have a wide range of educational backgrounds. Most of us hope to adapt each others’ ideas to suit our own needs. That adaption will be much easier if we appreciate each others’ individual circumstances, and especially if we know something about each others’ different educational systems. To ease the exchange of information, I shall outline two very different educational schemes. I shall call them the “traditional” and the “U.S.” system. I suspect that about half of us will identify more closely with the traditional system, and half with the U.S. system.

Resumen
The Printed Circuit Board (PCB) accommodates various Integrated Circuit (IC) components arranged in a specific layout of bond pads, lines, and tracks. Throughout the manufacturing process, irregularities or defects often occur during drilling, etching, stripping, and other stages, impacting the performance and functionality of the circuit board. Many of these defects are related to soldering pads and copper balance, identifying them through manual inspection is time-consuming and error-prone. This necessitates the use of Automated Optical Inspection (AOI). Practices like template matching often require two identical PCBs, which are compared using mathematical algorithms to detect differences. However, they are not resilient to viewpoint variations and non-rigid deformations. The current inspection process primarily focuses on rectifying PCB images captured with tilts ranging from 0 to 84 using homography principles. This correction process operates within a maximum run time of 7.96 s. The adjusted images then undergo analysis via a pattern-matching unit, where the system receives images of the same PCB pattern, each exhibiting different defects. Structural information mapping is performed using various spatial-domain feature-based matching algorithms. When evaluated using SSI and MSE metrics, the model achieved high matching percentages of 99.67%, 99.75%, and 99.30%, and low error rates of 0.343%, 0.358%, and 0.721% for three different types of PCB designs considered. Additionally, the model excels in precisely identifying the location of defects in the PCB images without using bounding boxes, in accordance with the description of the co-images through a segmentation approach. Overall, the proposed system effectively corrects skew, accurately detects abnormalities and outperforms traditional assessment systems.

Deduction theorem and its weak forms in classical mathematical logic system, Łukasiewicz logic system, Gödel logic system, product logic system, and the fuzzy logic system ℒ* are discussed and compared. It is pointed out that the weak form of deduction theorem in ℒ* has a clear structure and can be employed to define the concept of consistency degrees of finite theories. Moreover, it is clarified that the negation operator of Gödel type is too strong and is therefore unsuitable for establishing fuzzy logic systems.

Resumen
The authors of this paper share a common background from the Northern Norway region, a rural county and the largest and least populated county of Norway. The region is characterised by high out-migration, lower educational levels, and higher drop-out rates from secondary education than in other regions of Norway. Limited educational provision makes it necessary for many young people in rural areas to leave home to take a secondary education. Large geographical distances make it difficult to commute on a daily basis. Historically, this area has been the most culturally diverse in Norway, as the domicile of the Sámi Indigenous people and the national minority, the Kven, and the Norwegian ethnic group. This Arctic region is characterised by the encounter with three ethnicities, and traditional industries such as fishing, farming and herding, combined with modern industry and knowledge-intensive enterprises. Despite this multi-ethnic and geographically diverse society, the schools are still struggling with the unit-oriented curriculum, ignoring the diversity among the pupils. When the multi-ethnic society is not embedded in the education system, nor given in the adolescents’ hometown, the education system will be exogenous and will appear foreign. In this paper, we use available public statistics and a literature review, inspired by autoethnographic methodology—whereby authors use their experiences as a person and a long-time researcher in a field to describe, analyse and understand the phenomenon—to argue for a local- and contextual oriented schools to make meaningful and practical improvements to rural education.

Resumen
This paper studied the dynamic behavior of the fractional order hyper-chaotic Lorenz system and the fractional order hyper-chaotic Rössler system, then numerical analysis of the different fractional orders hyper-chaotic systems are carried out under the predictor–corrector method. We proved the two systems are in hyper-chaos when the maximum and the second largest Lyapunov exponential are calculated. Also the smallest orders of the systems are proved when they are in hyper-chaos. The diverse structure synchronization of the fractional order hyper-chaotic Lorenz system and the fractional order hyper-chaotic Rössler system is realized using active control method. Numerical simulations indicated that the scheme was always effective and efficient.

Resumen
The value of large amount of location-based mobile data has received wide attention in many research fields including human behavior analysis, urban transportation planning, and various location-based services. Nowadays, both scientific and industrial communities are encouraged to collect as much location-based mobile data as possible, which brings two challenges: (1) how to efficiently process the queries of big location-based mobile data and (2) how to reduce the cost of storage services, because it is too expensive to store several exact data replicas for fault-tolerance. So far, several dedicated storage systems have been proposed to address these issues. However, they do not work well when the ranges of queries vary widely. In this work, we design a storage system based on diverse replica scheme which not only can improve the query processing efficiency but also can reduce the cost of storage space. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to investigate the data storage and processing in the context of big location-based mobile data. Specifically, we conduct in-depth theoretical and empirical analysis of the trade-offs between different spatial-temporal partitioning and data encoding schemes. Moreover, we propose an effective approach to select an appropriate set of diverse replicas, which is optimized for the expected query loads while conforming to the given storage space budget. The experiment results show that using diverse replicas can significantly improve the overall query performance and the proposed algorithms for the replica selection problem are both effective and efficient.

Resumen
CONTEXT: According to estimates, 3-7% of the world’s population suff ers from congenital diseases, however the true percentage may differ substantially because cases in developing countries are sometimes not reported. Fetal autopsies are crucial for confi rming fetal congenital anomalies despite antenatal diagnostic techniques. In order to categorize congenital defects systemically and correlate these lesions with radiological results, the current investigation is being conducted. AIMS: The present study is undertaken to study and categorizing the various congenital anomalies according system wise involvement and to correlate these lesions with radiological findings wherever available. SETTINGS AND DESIGN: Cross sectional study. METHODS AND MATERIAL: The retrospective study was carried out at the Pathology department. The request form was used to collect clinical and radiological information, and each case was reviewed in accordance with protocol. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED: SPSS software was used for the statistical analysis. Descriptive statistics like frequency, mean and median were calculated. Finally, anomalies were categorized system wise. RESULT: The study comprised 85 cases with a 1.9:1 male to female fetal ratio. The most frequently affected system was a central nervous system. An unusual case of Patau and Down syndrome was identifed. CONCLUSION: Fetal autopsy aids in the detection of a number of congenital malformations as well as the provision of information regarding the likelihood of these anomalies recurring in the future. Regular antenatal check-ups with specific diagnostic test help to avoid congenital anomalies in subsequent pregnancies.

Resumen
Chemical synthesis generally requires labor-intensive, sometimes tedious trial-and-error optimization of reaction conditions. Here, we describe a plug-and-play, continuous-flow chemical synthesis system that mitigates this challenge with an integrated combination of hardware, software, and analytics. The system software controls the user-selected reagents and unit operations (reactors and separators), processes reaction analytics (high-performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, vibrational spectroscopy), and conducts automated optimizations. The capabilities of this system are demonstrated in high-yielding implementations of C-C and C-N cross-coupling, olefination, reductive amination, nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr), photoredox catalysis, and a multistep sequence. The graphical user interface enables users to initiate optimizations, monitor progress remotely, and analyze results. Subsequent users of an optimized procedure need only download an electronic file, comparable to a smartphone application, to implement the protocol on their own apparatus.

Resumen
ABSTRACT With an obligate intracellular lifestyle, Alphaproteobacteria of the order Rickettsiales have inextricably coevolved with their various eukaryotic hosts, resulting in small, reductive genomes and strict dependency on host resources. Unsurprisingly, large portions of Rickettsiales genomes encode proteins involved in transport and secretion. One particular transporter that has garnered recent attention from researchers is the type IV secretion system (T4SS). Homologous to the well-studied archetypal vir T4SS of Agrobacterium tumefaciens, the R ickettsiales v ir homolog (rvh) T4SS is characterized primarily by duplication of several of its genes and scattered genomic distribution of all components in several conserved islets. Phylogeny estimation suggests a single event of ancestral acquirement of the rvh T4SS, likely from a nonalphaproteobacterial origin. Bioinformatics analysis of over 30 Rickettsiales genome sequences illustrates a conserved core rvh scaffold (lacking only a virB5 homolog), with lineage-specific diversification of several components (rvhB1, rvhB2, and rvhB9b), likely a result of modifications to cell envelope structure. This coevolution of the rvh T4SS and cell envelope morphology is probably driven by adaptations to various host cells, identifying the transporter as an important target for vaccine development. Despite the genetic intractability of Rickettsiales, recent advancements have been made in the characterization of several components of the rvh T4SS, as well as its putative regulators and substrates. While current data favor a role in effector translocation, functions in DNA uptake and release and/or conjugation cannot at present be ruled out, especially considering that a mechanism for plasmid transfer in Rickettsia spp. has yet to be proposed.

Resumen
Combining multiple classifiers is considered as a general solution for classification tasks. However, there are two problems in combining multiple classifiers: constructing a diverse classifier ensemble; and, constructing an appropriate combiner. In this study, an improved multiple classifier combination scheme is propose. A diverse classifier ensemble is constructed by training them with different feature set partitions. The ant system-based algorithm is used to form the optimal feature set partitions. Weighted voting is used to combine the classifiers’ outputs by considering the strength of the classifiers prior to voting. Experiments were carried out using k-NN ensembles on benchmark datasets from the University of California, Irvine, to evaluate the credibility of the proposed method. Experimental results showed that the proposed method has successfully constructed better k-NN ensembles. Further more the proposed method can be used to develop other multiple classifier systems.

Resumen
In typical applications, genetic algorithms (GAs) process populations of potential problem solutions to evolve a single population member that specifies an ‘optimized’ solution. The majority of GA analysis has focused on these optimization applications. In other applications (notably learning classifier systems and certain connectionist learning systems), a GA searches for a population of cooperative structures that jointly perform a computational task. This paper presents an analysis of this type of GA problem. The analysis considers a simplified genetics-based machine learning system: a model of an immune system. In this model, a GA must discover a set of pattern-matching antibodies that effectively match a set of antigen patterns. Analysis shows how a GA can automatically evolve and sustain a diverse, cooperative population. The cooperation emerges as a natural part of the antigen-antibody matching procedure. This emergent effect is shown to be similar to fitness sharing, an explicit technique for multimodal GA optimization. Further analysis shows how the GA population can adapt to express various degrees of generalization. The results show how GAs can automatically and simultaneously discover effective groups of cooperative computational structures.

Resumen
The ambiguity suppression is a technical challenge for the present generation of spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems since this kind of suppression does not take the high spatial resolution and wide coverage into account simultaneously. The transmitting scheme based on the waveform diversity technique is a promising candidate for the conventional (one transmit, one receive channel) SAR systems and has been widely discussed, because it has almost no extra system costs and the ambiguity suppression performance is not closely related to pulse repetition frequency (PRF). However, the accurate method to evaluate the ratio of the intensities of the ambiguities to that of the signal is still a gap. To this end, starting from the precise signal model formulated in this paper, the ambiguity evaluation for spaceborne SAR with waveform diversity has been analyzed in detail. Particularly, the modified azimuth ambiguity-to-signal ratio (AASR) and range ambiguity-to-signal ratio (RASR) formulas are given for the single polarization SARs and quadrature-polarimetric (quad-pol) SARs, which contributes a lot, for the system designer, to precisely evaluating the ambiguity performance. Finally, detailed simulation experiments exploiting the system parameters of the LuTan (LT-1) system are carried out to corroborate the theoretical developments.

Resumen
Unlike most biofuel species,Jatropha curcashas promise for use in marginal lands, but it may serve an additional role by stabilizing soils. We evaluated the growth and structural responsiveness of youngJ. curcasplants to diverse soil conditions. Soils included a sand, a sandy-loam, and a clay-loam from eastern Mexico. Growth and structural parameters were analyzed for shoots and roots, although the focus was the plasticity of the primary root system architecture (the taproot and four lateral roots). The sandy soil reduced the growth of both shoot and root systems significantly more than sandy-loam or clay-loam soils; there was particularly high plasticity in root and shoot thickness, as well as shoot length. However, the architecture of the primary root system did not vary with soil type; the departure of the primary root system from an index of perfect symmetry was14±5% (mean ± standard deviation). AlthoughJ. curcasdeveloped more extensively in the sandy-loam and clay-loam soils than in sandy soil, it maintained a consistent root to shoot ratio and root system architecture across all types of soil. This strong genetic determination would make the species useful for soil stabilization purposes, even while being cultivated primarily for seed oil.

Resumen
The effects of crop rotation and management system on annual variability in weed communities and crop yields were assessed in a 4-yr study in Michigan. Variability of the weed community and corn yields were assessed using the coefficient of variation (CV) and a multivariate dissimilarity index (Bray-Curtis) that accounted for changes in both weed species abundance and composition. The treatments included two rotations: continuous corn and a corn–corn–soybean–wheat rotation, and two management systems: conventional (CONV) and organic-based (ORG). Weed biomass was significantly higher in the ORG system; however, there was no effect of crop rotation on weed biomass or number of weed species in a treatment (species richness). Annual variability in weed community composition and structure was affected by both crop rotation and management system and was highest in the ORG rotation. In contrast to the weed community, variability in corn yield was highest in the least-diverse cropping system (CONV monoculture), despite that system having a more constant weed community. Corn yield in the ORG rotation was not significantly different from that in the CONV monoculture. Results of this study suggest that management aimed at increasing cropping system diversity may have additional effects on weed communities and crop yields beyond those commonly reported, and these may have important implications for the development of more efficient and sustainable weed and crop management practices.

Resumen
The rapid advancement of battery technology has led to an increasing interest in the utilization of various battery types for a wide range of applications. To optimize the performance, efficiency, and safety of these batteries, the implementation of an effective battery management system is imperative. Within the scope of this study, the battery management system responsible for overseeing the management of battery packs in electric vehicles is examined in terms of its utilization for monitoring fundamental conditions such as current, voltage, and temperature of batteries. Furthermore, the applicability of this battery management system in different types of battery packs is evaluated. With the aim of advancing the sustainability and efficiency of management systems capable of overseeing single-type batteries, the focus of attention lies in the capacity to manage diverse battery types. The developed battery management system is subject to testing on a variety of battery types, thereby investigating the methods by which these batteries can be optimally managed. The resultant data is collected within a computer-based environment, and analyses are conducted to derive findings from this information. This study illustrates the adaptability of the battery management system to varying current, voltage, and temperature parameters, enabling its effective deployment across different battery types. In this context, the potential to mitigate environmental pollution is envisioned through the implementation of more sustainable battery management systems.
