Este artículo busca establecer un contexto para la obra del escritor bogotano Clímaco Soto Borda (1870-1919), y se preocupa especialmente por sugerir diversos elementos intertextuales que, presentes en Diana cazadora (1915), hacen de ella una novela en conexión con significativas obras de su época (incluso europeas) al mismo tiempo que una propuesta, por su irónico humorismo, de avanzada en la literatura colombiana. Palabras clave: Soto Borda, Clímaco; Diana cazadora; Ironía; Humor en la literatura; Intertextualidad. Abstract: The main concern of this article is to identify the literary context for Clímaco Soto Borda´s novel Diana cazadora (1915). The author points out how intertextuality permeates the novel, a fact that relates it to many other important contemporary novels, even European ones. Another aspect addressed here is the ironical humour used by Soto Borda which places his work as an avant-garde proposal for Colombian literature at that period. Resumen
This qualitative descriptive study aims to describe the representation of literal and nonliteral speech acts in the novel "Dear Allah" by Diana Febi. From a theoretical perspective, this research uses a sociopragmatic system or view. While the method or technique of data collection in this research is a documentation study or literature study, in this case, the literature review is in the form of texts contained in the novel Dear Allah by Diana Febi. The novel is the primary data source. Documentation or literature studies are carried out through direct appreciation and rational understanding of the meaning implied in the novel. The results of this study show (1) representative literal speech acts in Diana Febi's novel Dear Allah and (2) representative nonliteral speech acts in Diana Febi's novel Dear Allah. This research makes a scientific contribution, especially in linguistics, on the sociopragmatic aspect so that understanding the implied meaning of a novel can be understood as a whole in terms of social meaning.

In her novel Arabian Jazz, Diana Abu-Jaber attempts to explore the Arab American identity as something new; as an identity that exists related to, but ultimately separate from, the Arab and American identities from which it was originally created. This thesis discusses the emergence of the depiction of the Arab American female identity in the novel, examining how the characters explore issues of race, class, imperialism, and sex within both the Arab and the American cultures as those issues shape female identity. The thesis also presents a rhetorical analysis of the speeches that allow the characters a voice with respect to how identity is shaped and reshaped throughout the novel.

The thesis explores the work of the above four contemporary children's writers, in relation to post-1960s Western society. I concentrate primarily on depictions of children, adults and relationships between the two, and the way in which these depictions engage with changing social attitudes. I also place the novels in their literary-historical context, examining whether or not they continue the literary traditions of their predecessors in children's literature, or whether their central focus is on contemporary social engagement. I also consider whether literary traditions (particularly fairytale discourse) are re-worked and reinvented in accordance with contemporary social issues. In Western society, the post-1960s era has brought widespread social changes, which include the democratisation of childhood - 'children's rights' is now a well-used term, both legally and in everyday life. Despite this, however, today's society seems to be experiencing unprecedented confusion and uncertainty in its attitudes towards children, particularly with regard to child-liberation and various reactions against it. Nonetheless, the post-1960s era has witnessed an intense interest in childhood - the many debates and disagreements are evidence of this. Throughout the thesis, I examine the way in which Dahl, Fine, Jones and Rowling engage with (or react against) these contemporary childhood issues. Chapter one outlines the social context and provides information on the most prominent issues: children's rights; parenting advice and educational issues (both of which focus predominantly on liberalism versus strict control); children as a burden or a pleasure; freedom versus guidance; the death of childhood versus the prolonging of dependency; children as innocent angels or destructive demons. Chapters two to six go on to explore these issues in the literary texts: chapter two concentrates on family relationships; chapter three examines individual adult characters, while chapters four and five focus in detail on the portrayal of child characters, including their relationships with adults and the development of their potential. Chapter six investigates the depiction of magic, and the way in which it can be viewed as a form of psychological power for children (and so can feature in realist as well as fantasy texts). The thesis as a whole, therefore, examines the novels' relationship with both literary and social discourse, predominantly with regard to the adult-child relationship.

This thesis investigates the function of representations of the Orient in fantasy literature for children with a focus on The Chronicles of Narnia as exemplifying its most problematic manifestation. According to Edward Said (2003:1-2), the Orient is one of Europe’s ‘deepest and most recurring images of the Other… [which]…has helped to define Europe (or the West) as its contrasting image, idea, personality, experience.’ However, values are grouped around otherness in fantasy literature as in no other genre, facilitating what J.R.R. Tolkien (2001:58) identifies as Recovery, the ‘regaining of a clear view… [in order that] the things seen clearly may be freed from the drab blur of triteness or familiarity.’ In Chapter One, it is argued that this gives the way the genre deals with spaces and identities characterized as Oriental, which in Western stories are themselves vested with qualities of strangeness, a peculiar significance. Specifically, new ways of perceiving the function of representations of the Other are explored in the genre of fantasy. Edward Said’s concept of imaginative geographies is then introduced and the significance of this concept in light of the fictional spaces of fantasy is explored. Next, fantasy’s links to representations of the Orient in Romance literature are explained, and the way in which these representations are determined by the heritage of Orientalist discourse is examined. Finally, the issue of children’s literature as colonial space and the implications of this in a fantasy framework are discussed. Chapter Two begins by introducing C.S. Lewis and explaining the ideology at work in The Chronicles of Narnia. The order in which The Chronicles should be approached is then established, and the construction of identity in the first three of The Chronicles is examined. Chapter Three focuses on The Horse and His Boy, the book in which the pseudo-Oriental space of Calormen most prominently figures. Chapter Four is devoted to the last two books of The Chronicles with emphasis on the role played by the Other in the destruction of Narnia in The Last Battle. In Chapter Five, I sum up the essential problems of representing the Orient as illustrated by my study of The Chronicles of Narnia. Representations of the Orient in The Chronicles are compared with pseudo-Oriental constructions in Castle in the Air, by Diana Wynne Jones, Emperor Mage and The Woman Who Rides Like A Man by Tamora Pierce and both Voices and The Earthsea Quartet by Ursula K. Le Guin. The similarities and differences evident in the representations of the Orient in all these works are traced and the implications of them are explored. Le Guin in particular is noted as an author who demonstrates some ways to break free of Orientalist paradigms of identity.

Though Quintilian introduced the term in loco parentis in his Institutio Oratoria by suggesting that teachers think of themselves as parents of a student's mind, composition scholars have let parenting as a metaphor for teaching fall by the wayside in recent discussions of classroom authority. Podis and Podis have recently revived the term, though, and investigated the ways writing teachers enact Lakoff's "Strict Father" and "Nurturing Mother" authority models. Unfortunately, their treatment of these two opposite authority styles reduces classroom authority styles to a mutually exclusive binary of two less than satisfactory options. I propose clinical and developmental psychologist Diana Baumrind's taxonomy of parenting styles as the ideal way to reform our thinking as a field about the authority model we should adopt in our writing classrooms. While Baumrind includes the inferior models Podis and Podis work from in her authoritarian and permissive parenting styles, she found that the authoritative style, which is both strict and nurturing, promises the best results for parenting children: autonomy and academic achievement. By applying her descriptions of authoritative parents and the outcomes for their children to the practices of composition instructors and their students, I reveal how useful Baumrind's taxonomy of parenting styles could be for a field that often uses nuanced terms for authority without either clearly defining them or backing claims with replicable, aggregable, data-driven (RAD) research. If our field chooses to adopt Baumrind's terminology and definitions, then, we will be able to communicate about classroom authority in terms anchored in a coherent paradigm and garner more respect for our field as we probe the outcomes of Baumrind's authoritative parenting style as a college composition teaching style through our own empirical research.

Cette thèse étudie des œuvres littéraires arabo-américaines contemporaines écrites par des femmes, plus spécifiquement les écrits d’Evelyn Shakir tels que Bint Arab, ainsi que plusieurs autres romans dont Arabian Jazz et Crescent de Diana Abu Jaber, The Inheritance of Exile de Susan Muaddi Darraj, The Night Counter d’Alia Yunis, et Once in a Promised Land de Laila Halaby. Elle montre comment ces œuvres construisent des univers où peuvent être interrogées les notions d’identité, de culture, d’ethnicité, et de genre. Les conflits quotidiens autour de l’identité sont traités en se fondant à la fois sur les œuvres critiques des femmes arabo-américaines et sur les études psycho-sociales du biculturalisme. De plus, ce travail met l’accent sur la formation de solidarités entre les femmes de couleur, en élargissant le concept de « conscience des zones frontalières » d’Anzaldua pour inclure les œuvres des écrivaines arabo-américaines. Les théories développées après la colonisation, particulièrement les études sur l’orientalisme à la suite d’Edward Said, sont également invoquées pour remettre en question le modèle oriental de la féminité. This dissertation analyses contemporary Arab-American literary productions by female writers, specifically, Shakir’s collection of memoirs Bint Arab and her two short stories “Oh Lebanon” and “Name Calling,” as well as a selection of novels, Abu Jaber’s Arabian Jazz and Crescent, Darraj’s The Inheritance of Exile, Alia Yunis’s The Night Counter, and Laila Halaby’s Once in a Promised Land. It shows how these works construct a space which enables them to investigate questions of identity, culture, ethnicity and gender. Identity conflicts around everyday matters like physical appearance, color, dress codes, veiling, chastity, and marriage are addressed by drawing upon critical works by Arab-American female writers and psycho-social studies on biculturalism. Moreover, this work emphasizes coalition-building with women of color by extending Anzaldua’s concept of the “consciousness of the borderlands” to encompass works by Arab-American female writers. Theories by post-colonial thinkers, particularly Said’s studies on Orientalism, also contribute to the dissertation’s questioning of the Oriental model of womanhood. Finally, this dissertation envisages critical works that study storytelling and its role in creating a surrogate home for “exilic” identities, with special emphasis on the Scheherazadian narrative. This project views literary productions as an appropriate way to investigate social, political, cultural and ethnic issues. It shows how writings by Arab-American women contribute to exploring inner identity conflicts, how they connect with other minority groups, and how they create a new sense of home

A literatura de autoria feminina nas sociedades pós-coloniais é considerada por Gayatri C. Spivak um processo metonímico da saga das mulheres usado como ferramenta de denúncia, que possibilita a quebra de mitos e preconceitos há muito reforçados pelo discurso patriarcal. Dentre as mulheres que encontraram sua voz e se fizeram ouvir, deixando de ser consideradas apenas informantes nativas das histórias orais de sua cultura, merecem destaque as cabo-verdianas Dina Salústio, Vera Duarte, Fátima Bettencourt, Orlanda Amarílis e Dulce Almada Duarte, e as moçambicanas Paulina Chiziane e Lília Momplé. O objetivo desta tese é investigar nos romances A Louca de Serrano e O alegre canto da perdiz, de Dina Salústio e Paulina Chiziane, respectivamente, como se constrói a temática da loucura, representada pelas mulheres africanas (e personagens) Louca de Serrano e Maria das Dores (louca do rio), que pode ser compreendida como uma voz carregada de solidão, dor, negação, rebeldia e inconformismo e como marca de resistência à marginalização feminina nas e pelas práticas sociais hegemônicas.
The female literature in the post-colonial societies is considered by Gayatri C. Spivak as a process of metonymic saga of women used as a complain instrument, which allows the myths and the prejudices failure a long time reinforced by the patriarchal discourse. Among the women who found her voice and spoke up, no longer considered as only native informants of oral histories of their culture deserve mention the Cape Verdean Dina Salústio, Vera Duarte, Fátima Bettencourt, Orlanda Amarilis and Dulce Almada Duarte, and the Mozambican Paulina Chiziane and Lilia Momplé. The objective of this work is to investigate in the Dina Salústios and Paulina Chizianes novels A Louca de Serrano and O alegre canto da perdiz, respectively, how the insanity theme is built, represented by the african women (and characters) Louca de Serrano and Maria das Dores, which can be understood as a voice full of loneliness, pain, denial, rebelliousness and nonconformism and as a resistance mark to the women marginalization into and by the hegemonic social practices.

Surgiram nas últimas décadas muitos movimentos sociais que têm questionado os padrões estabelecidos pelo sistema patriarcal, levando-nos a discussão em torno das novas masculinidades e feminilidades, da relação entre os gêneros, da crise do masculino e da promoção das mulheres. Em Cabo Verde, essas temáticas também têm sido constantemente discutidas por toda a sociedade, encontrando na literatura espaço para representação de vários modelos de masculino e feminino. A partir da análise de três obras ficcionais: Estátuas de Sal (2003), de Evel Rocha, Estórias de dentro de casa (1998), de Germano Almeida, e Mornas eram as noites (1994), de Dina Salústio, com base num corpus teórico diversificado e interdisciplinar, que trata de temas como a construção social da masculinidade, a dominação masculina, as relações entre o masculino e feminino, entre outros, além de documentos e relatórios que contextualizam a situação do país, buscaremos demonstrar como o discurso literário tem expressado essas novas masculinidades e feminilidades, desde estruturas mais tradicionais a novas possibilidades para os gêneros e caminhos possíveis para as transformações das relações.
Many social movements have emerged in recent decades which have questioned standards set by the patriarchal system, leading us into a discussion around new masculinities and femininities, the relation between genders, the crisis of the masculine and the advancement of women. In Cape Verde, these themes have constantly been discussed by society, finding in literature a space for the representation of masculine and feminine models. From the analysis of three fictional works, Estátuas de Sal (2003) by Evel Rocha, Estórias de dentro de casa (1998) by Germano Almeida, and Mornas eram as noites (1994) by Dina Salústio and based on a diverse theoretical and interdisciplinary corpus that deals with themes such as the social construction of masculinity, male domination, the relationship between male and female, among others, besides documents and reports that contextualize the situation of the country, our work aims at presenting the way in which the literary discourse has expressed these new masculinities and femininities, ranging from the more traditional structures to new possibilities for genders and possible paths towards transforming these relations.

Uncovering the feminine myth has been the topic of numerous studies. In recent years, research has focused on the return of ancient images of the goddess as the primary metaphor for the feminine myth. Utilizing feminine typologies from Jungian archetypalists and feminist scholars, this study summarizes the research on the archetypal feminine in order to analyze Diane di Prima's Loba poems. An analysis of the poems is undertaken and reveals patterns of feminine images which are consistent with other revisionist literature by women. The analysis is then used to frame a production of poems as a ritual celebrating the Loba as goddess. As Christine Downing suggests in The Goddess, women need images of the goddess to recognize the divine in themselves. The adaptation of the Loba poems for performance creates such an image. It also creates a theatre piece with what Sue-Ellen Case calls "woman as subject." As a result of this study, the goals of feminist archetypal theory are advanced as well as the goals of feminist theatre.

Resumen
The first information in Russia about the Yi-jing (易經, Canon of Changes) was published by the first Russian sinologist, German historian and philologist-polyglot G. S. Bayer in the two-volume Museum Sinicum (St. Petersburg, 1730) in Latin. In Russian, the primary information about Yi-jing became available to the reader half a century later thanks to the coryphaeus of Russian sinology of the 18th century A. L. Leontiev. In 1782, he published an illustrated and commented translation of a fragment from Yi-jing (named Convenient Base) as an appendix to his translation of the Manchu text of the Statutes of the Great Qing (大清會典, Dai-Qing hui-dian). A. L. Leontiev called the French abbot, who visited St. Petersburg in 1769, the initiator of his appeal to the Yi-jing, but did not indicate his name. P. E. Skachkov after V. S. Kolokolov decided that he was the famous French Jesuit missionary and versatile scientist A. Gaubil. However, he died ten years earlier. Most likely the interlocutor of A. L. Leontiev was a well-known theologian and economist-physiocrat, French abbot N. Baudeau, who held confidential negotiations with Catherine II in 1769 in St. Petersburg about the situation in Poland. The secrecy of this mission on the eve of the first partition of Poland fully explains the concealment of his name in 1782, when he was still alive and brewing the second partition. Apparently, a look at the Yi-jing of the French enlighteners and physiocrats, reported by N. Baudeau to A. L. Leontiev, prompted him to link the ancient canon with Statutes of the Great Qing.

Suku Sunda merupakan suku terbesar di provinsi Jawa Barat. Jawa Barat sendiri merupakan salah satu provinsi yang mengalami evolusi pada bidang arsitektur. Banyaknya jenis rumah pada arsitektur sunda sangat menarik untuk dikaji. Secara umum konsep perancangan pada arsitektur sunda ialah menyatu dengan alam. Salah satunya di kawasan Kampung Naga yang terletak di Desa Nelgasari, Kecamatan Salawi, Kabupaten Tasikmalaya. Merupakan kampung yang masih di huni oleh masyarakat yang kuat kepercayaannya dengan adat istiadat leluhur. Tujuan dari pembahasan ini adalah memengetahui bagaimana konsep arsitektur berkelanjutan yang sebenarnya diterapkan dalam permukiman Kampung Naga. Metode pembahasan dalam tulisan ini didasarkan pada observasi lapangan, kajian literatur, dan informasi dari beberapa narasumber. Hasil pembahasan merupakan kesatuan antara arsitektur Kampung Naga dengan karakter tapak dan iklim dimana membuktikan bahwa arsitektur pada permukiman Kampung Naga yang masih erat dengan budaya sudah menerapkan konsep arsitektur berkelanjutan. Resumen
1.Objetivos: El presente trabajo pretende revisar la literatura existente sobre el cannabidiol (CBD), componente habitual en el cannabis, como posible herramienta terapéutica en el trastorno bipolar. 2. Material y métodos: Se ha realizado una revisión narrativa de las revisiones publicadas en la base de datos Pubmed con la siguiente sintaxis: "CBD" AND "bipolar" OR "affective. De la misma, 45 estudios se obtienen como resultado. Los criterios de inclusión para la elección de artículos fueron los siguientes: 1) que el artículo incluyera al CBD como herramienta terapéutica, 2) que el trastorno bipolar se incluyera como diana terapéutica, 3) que el artículo fuera una revisión (tanto narrativas como sistemáticas), 4) que el artículo fuera publicado a partir de 2010. Con dichos criterios, se encontraron 9 distintas revisiones sobre el tema en cuestión. 3. Resultados y conclusiones: El cannabidiol (CBD) emerge como una posibilidad terapéutica en los trastornos afectivos, aunque con una evidencia limitada (grado evidencia C) y como coadyuvante junto a las líneas de tratamiento habituales. La mayoría de revisiones apuntaron a la necesidad de nuevos artículos, especialmente ensayos clínicos aleatorios en los que el CBD se utilizara en uno de los grupos de tratamiento, para poder afirmar con mayor claridad el beneficio de su utilización. Sin embargo, dado el potencial del otro componente principal del cannabis (THC) como factor de riesgo en la generación de episodios psicóticos y afectivos, el CBD se discute en varias revisiones como un posible sustituto del cannabis habitual en aquellos pacientes con patología dual de trastorno por consumo de cannabis y psicosis/trastornos afectivos en los que el abandono del cannabis no se considera como una opción viable.

Resumen
Down syndrome ditemukan awalnya ditahun 1932 oleh dokter di Inggris yang bernama Dr. John Langdon. Down syndrome terjadi karena kegagalan sepasang kromoson yang saling memisahkan diri saat terjadi pembelahan. Peningkatan anak down syndrome di setiap tahunnya terjadi peningkatan, terutama di Indonesia. Beberapa orang tua yang sudah malu memiliki anak down syndrome hanya mengurung anaknya di rumah dan tidak membiarkan mereka keluar. Namun mereka lupa bahwa anak yang dibiarkan untuk pasif dan terisolasi di rumah, besar kemungkinan akan mengalami autisme sebesar 30%. Tujuan dari penulisan ini adalah membangun kriteria ruang ramah anak penyandang down syndrome dengan pendekatan sensory stimulan. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dimana berfokus pada stdi literatur dari jurnal penelitian dan landasan teori, serta mempelajari dan memahami teori dari beberapa sumber jurnal, buku dan penelitian. Hasil dari penelitian ini terkait dengan 7 indra pada penerapan sensory stimulan. Diantaranya penglihatan dari bentuk geometri yang berbeda-beda serta warna pada fasad, indra penciuman dan perasa dari vegetasi yang aroma wangi, indra pendegaran dengan mendengarkan gemercik air kolam, indra peraba dengan membuat berbagai macam material, skeleton untuk mengetahui jarak berdasarkan material pedestrian, serta proporsi jarak atau ketinggian pada material di dalam ruang terapi indoor. Introdução: Lectinas são moléculas bioativas presentes em diferentes organismos, que atuam em processos biológicos relevantes, incluindo atividade antimicrobiana, antifúngica, antioxidante, antitumoral, bem como na defesa vegetal. Estudos recentes relatam que a família de Kinases Receptoras de Lectinas do tipo L (LecRK) possui papel no desenvolvimento vegetal e na resposta a estresses ambientais, sendo diferencialmente expressas durante o crescimento vegetal e em resposta a diferentes estímulos. O feijão-caupi (Vigna unguiculata L.) é uma espécie de grande interesse social e econômico para o Brasil, que tem sido alvo de diversos estudos genéticos nas últimas décadas. No entanto, ainda se conhece pouco sobre o papel das LecRKs nesta espécie, especialmente em condições de estresses abióticos e bióticos. Objetivo: Este trabalho teve como objetivo realizar uma prospecção das LecRKs presentes no genoma do feijão-caupi. Material e Métodos: Dessa forma, foi realizada uma busca por sequências sonda no banco de dados Uniprot. A ferramenta HMMER3 foi utilizada para a análise de homologia das sequências contra o genoma de referência do feijão-caupi, depositado no banco de dados Phytozome. A busca por domínios completos foi realizada no Batch CD-search do NCBI, assim como foram preditos o ponto isoelétrico (p.I) e peso molecular (p.M) pelo JVirGel 2.0. Para a verificação da localização subcelular utilizou-se o Cell-Ploc 2.0. Adicionalmente, foi avaliada a presença de peptídeo sinal no SignalP e pontes dissulfeto no DiaNNA. Resultados: Foram obtidas 27 sequências candidatas que continham o domínio LecRK, com p.I variando de 3.93 a 9.05 e p.M. de 26,27 a 76,14, e todas as sequências foram localizadas no núcleo, corroborando ao verificado na literatura. Desse total, dez sequências apresentaram peptídeo sinal e 11 exibiram padrões distintos de pontes dissulfeto, indicando possíveis mudanças na estrutura tridimensional de proteínas da família LecRK. Conclusão: Os resultados contribuíram para a seleção de LecRKs promissoras para avaliação do perfil de expressão in silico em transcriptomas disponíveis no nosso grupo de pesquisa e posterior validação por PCR quantitativa em tempo real (qPCR).

Introdução: A agenesia de clitóris e pequenos lábios é uma anomalia congênita pouco frequente, que pode ser encontrada isoladamente ou associada a outras condições em diagnósticos sindrômicos. As alterações na genitália externa feminina podem levar a distúrbios da continência urinária, fertilidade, sexualidade e implicações psicológicas em razão da cada vez mais constante padronização estética da vulva. Além disso, as malformações de clitóris são relatadas por alguns autores como tabu na literatura médica, o que prejudica a identificação básica das alterações no exame físico da genitália externa. Relato de caso: Paciente do sexo feminino, 11 anos, sem comorbidades, foi ao ambulatório de ginecologia infanto-puberal acompanhada pela mãe, para avaliação de anomalia de genitália externa vista em consulta de pediatria. A história fisiológica evidencia telarca aos nove anos e pubarca aos 10 anos, porém ausência de menarca até a data da avaliação. A história patológica pregressa não foi digna de nota. A avaliação de idade óssea é compatível com a idade cronológica de acordo com a radiografia de mãos e punhos, e a ultrassonografia de abdome total apresenta-se sem alterações ao exame, com útero presente com mensuração normal. O exame físico evidenciou genitália externa feminina com agenesia de pequenos lábios e de clitóris, hímen pérvio não roto, vagina mensurada em torno de 7 cm, mamas em estágio M3 pela classificação de Tanner, e não foi possível realizar avaliação adequada do estágio de pilificação por causa da tricotomia. O restante do exame físico foi normal. Mãe e filha foram orientadas oportunamente e informadas de que a atitude seria expectante. Conclusão: A ausência do clitóris pode ser congênita ou adquirida. Entre as causas adquiridas, encontram-se o líquen escleroso levando à atrofia genital, o apagamento de pequenos lábios e de clitóris, mesmo em meninas jovens. Sobre as causas adquiridas, as mutilações genitais encontradas em tribos da África Subsaariana e o torniquete de cabelo são causas de amputação de clitóris. A agenesia ou hipoplasia isolada de clitóris é menos comum do que a associação com outras síndromes ou outras alterações de estruturas da genitália externa. Neste relato de caso, a genitália interna mantém-se inalterada, reforçando a hipótese de a origem desse tipo de alteração ocorrer no tubérculo genital. Excepcionalmente rara, a hipoplasia da genitália externa congênita já foi descrita anteriormente, principalmente como parte de síndromes complexas. Por serem raras, é possível que as agenesias de clitóris sejam subdiagnosticadas e acarretem implicações à saúde infanto-puberal, bem como futuramente na mulher adulta. Esse caso ratifica a importância de realizar exame genital de rotina emcrianças e adolescentes e da correta orientação aos responsáveis e à paciente, de acordo com seu nível de compreensão, evitando a busca por procedimentos cirúrgicos ou condutas desnecessárias e mantendo o acompanhamento em conduta expectante de rotina.

Recent large-scale epidemics and pandemics have demonstrated the importance of engaging communities as partners in preventing, detecting and responding to public health emergencies. Community-based surveillance (CBS), which relies on communities to report public health information, can be an important part of effective, inclusive and accountable responses to humanitarian and public health emergencies, as well as long-term disease control. This brief offers key considerations for CBS programming to guide policymakers, public health officials, civil society organisations, health workers, researchers, advocates, and others interested in health surveillance. It is based on a rapid review of CBS guidance and social science literature. It was written by Jennifer Palmer and Diane Duclos (both London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, LSHTM) with contributions by Mariam Sharif (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, EHESS). On 6 February 2023, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale brought destruction to southern Türkiye and northern Syria. The official death toll exceeded 50,000, with more than 7,000 fatalities occurring in Syria.1 An estimated 12 million people were affected by the earthquake in total.2 While international aid from the UN and member countries started reaching government-held areas in Syria soon after the earthquake struck, equitable access to humanitarian assistance faced multiple barriers. International support to areas not controlled by the government was markedly delayed, with the first UN delegation arriving on the fifth day after the earthquake. Despite this, several good practices were documented in the local response in Northwest Syria. Equipped with over 12 years of experience in a chronic conflict, many Syrian non-governmental organisations (NGO) and grassroots organisations were quick to respond, forming new alliances and consortia. If these were developed further to cover a variety of local actors, they could act as a vehicle for international aid. Such a model would enable sustainable interventions to address the impact of the earthquake and long-term vulnerabilities, increasing community resilience. This brief examines the humanitarian response to the earthquake in Syria – specifically in the health sector – with the aim of identifying best practices, highlighting gaps and exploring new approaches to strengthen the response. It draws on academic and grey literature, including reports from leading NGOs and government agencies. The evidence is backed up by consultations and informal conversations held with stakeholders involved in the earthquake response in Syria. The brief was requested by SSHAP and was written by Dr Abdulkarim Ekzayez (King’s College London), with support from Diane Duclos (the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) and Soha Karam (Anthrologica).
