Resumen
In dialogues between robots or computers and humans, dialogue breakdown analysis is an important tool for achieving better chat dialogues. Conventional dialogue breakdown detection methods focus on semantic variance. Although these methods can detect dialogue breakdowns based on semantic gaps, they cannot always detect emotional breakdowns in dialogues. In chat dialogue systems, emotions are sometimes included in the utterances of the system when responding to the speaker. In this study, we detect emotions from utterances, analyze emotional changes, and use them as the dialogue breakdown feature. The proposed method estimates emotions by utterance unit and generates features by calculating the similarity of the emotions of the utterance and the emotions that have appeared in prior utterances. We employ deep neural networks using sentence distributed representation vectors as the feature. In an evaluation of experimental results, the proposed method achieved a higher dialogue breakdown detection rate when compared to the method using a sentence distributed representation vectors.

Resumen
Conversational search is a relatively young area of research that aims at automating an information-seeking dialogue. In this article, we help to position it with respect to other research areas within conversational artificial intelligence (AI) by analysing the structural properties of an information-seeking dialogue. To this end, we perform a large-scale dialogue analysis of more than 150K transcripts from 16 publicly available dialogue datasets. These datasets were collected to inform different dialogue-based tasks including conversational search. We extract different patterns of mixed initiative from these dialogue transcripts and use them to compare dialogues of different types. Moreover, we contrast the patterns found in information-seeking dialogues that are being used for research purposes with the patterns found in virtual reference interviews that were conducted by professional librarians. The insights we provide (1) establish close relations between conversational search and other conversational AI tasks and (2) uncover limitations of existing conversational datasets to inform future data collection tasks.

Resumen
Purpose The purpose of this study is to describe the construction of leadership through authentic dialogues at work and leaders’ actions as contributors to dialogic leadership. Design/methodology/approach The authors collected the data by recording the organisation’s meetings and discussions and used content analysis of dialogic leadership and typifying of critical moments as analytical methods. Findings On the basis of the findings, this paper suggests that dialogic leadership begins with a startup critical moment and progresses through the different positions by manager and employees through democratic interaction. Individual and collective level learning of participants and the formation of new knowledge were used in decision- or conclusion-making. The manager promoted the construction of dialogic leadership in conversation by creating important critical moments, which enabled a dialogue to start or contributed to already ongoing dialogue. Originality/value The study proposes concrete actions that can be applied in working life. This study provides a new understanding of the leader’s activities in promoting dialogue.

Resumen
Dialogue understanding has always been a bottleneck for many conversational tasks, such as dialogue response generation and conversational question answering. To expedite the progress in this area, we introduce the task of conversational aspect sentiment analysis (CASA) that can provide useful fine-grained sentiment information for dialogue understanding and planning. Overall, this task extends the standard aspect-based sentiment analysis to the conversational scenario with several major adaptations. To aid the training and evaluation of data-driven methods, we annotate 3,000 chit-chat dialogues (27,198 sentences) with fine-grained sentiment information, including all sentiment expressions, their polarities and the corresponding target mentions. We also annotate an out-of-domain test set of 200 dialogues for robustness evaluation. Besides, we develop multiple baselines based on either pretrained BERT or self-attention for preliminary study. Experimental results show that our BERT-based model has strong performances for both in-domain and out-of-domain datasets, and thorough analysis indicates several potential directions for further improvements.

Resumen
How can a method of dialogue stimulate the learning of dialogic principles and practices in a virtual environment and contribute to the confrontation of social polarisation? This was the question that motivated the analysis and discussion of a project developed in Brazil during the months of May and June, 2020, which were characterised by the creation of three dialogue groups in a virtual environment (Google Meet). Throughout eight meetings, lasting one hour and a half each, the seventeen participants could learn and practice dialogue, through a method developed by the first author of this paper, based on the ideas of David Bohm, William Isaacs, and Paulo Freire. To analyse the results, three categories were recognized: learning dialogue; dialogue and the virtual environment; dialogue, social isolation, and polarization. The results found indicated that virtual dialogues seem to encourage the learning of dialogic principles and practices and the promotion of the transformation of interpersonal relations with people of different points of view, showing the possible contribution of such a proposal to the confrontation of polarisation. We emphasise that this article is a first qualitative approximation regarding the method, and there is still a long way to go of scientific deepening in the field of dialogue studies in order to ascertain its effects and challenges. Therefore, we suggest future research on the method, in different application contexts.

Resumen
Sentiment analysis in dialogues plays a critical role in dialogue data analysis. However, previous studies on sentiment classification in dialogues largely ignore topic information, which is important for capturing overall information in some types of dialogues. In this study, we focus on the sentiment classification task in an important type of dialogue, namely customer service dialogue, and propose a novel approach which captures overall information to enhance the classification performance. Specifically, we propose a topic-aware multi-task learning (TML) approach which learns topic-enriched utterance representations in customer service dialogue by capturing various kinds of topic information. In the experiment, we propose a large-scale and high-quality annotated corpus for the sentiment classification task in customer service dialogue and empirical studies on the proposed corpus show that our approach significantly outperforms several strong baselines.

Resumen
This paper explores proposing interpreting methods from explainable artificial intelligence to address the interpretability issues in deep learning-based models for classroom dialogue. Specifically, we developed a Bert-based model to automatically detect student talk moves within classroom dialogues, utilizing the TalkMoves dataset. Subsequently, we proposed three generic interpreting methods, namely saliency, input*gradient, and integrated gradient, to explain the predictions of classroom dialogue models by computing input relevance (i.e., contribution). The experimental results show that the three interpreting methods can effectively unravel the classroom dialogue analysis, thereby potentially fostering teachers' trust.

The field of natural language processing has had success in analyzing sentiment and topics on written text, but similar analysis on dialogue is more difficult due to the fragmented and informal nature of speech. This work explores sentiment and topic analysis on data from the Switchboard dialogue corpus, as well as a dataset of recorded dialogues between parents and children while reading an interactive e-book. The goal was to be able to identify the emotion and mood of the dialogue in order to make inferences about what parents and children generally talk about when reading the book because conversations between an adult and child while reading a book can greatly contribute to the learning and development of young children.

Resumen
The problem area addressed within this research is the processing and understanding of natural English dialogue by computer. The presented work fundamentally constitutes the development of a theory for modelling natural dialogue, and the practical implementation of that theory. There are two major aspects of consideration within the theory: the modelling of dialogue structure is balanced against certain individual factors. The structure of the dialogue is modelled via the mechanism of the Dialogue Structure Models and its constituent parts, accounting for situational context, participant motivation, participant role(s) and other contributory factors. The individual factors, on the other hand, are peculiar to the dialogue currently in progress, and cannot be pre-determined in the way that structure can. These factors include:1. The personal characteristics of the participants (their personalities, backgrounds, interests and belief systems); 2. The overall mood of the participant (how (s)he is feeling today; the emotional state of the participant); 3. Instantiation factors relating to the events and circumstances of the particular dialogue in progress. (For example, how a participant reacts intellectually or emotionally to what the other person has just said).A description of the implementation of this theory is presented, followed by a discussion of the testing techniques used to ensure that the original criteria for success have been met.

Resumen

The purpose of this interpretive phenomenological study was to explore the lived-experiences of students participating in interfaith dialogue at the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) Interfaith Leadership Institute (ILI) in Atlanta. The lived-experiences of the participants were explored though the following research questions: (1) How do participants define interfaith dialogue in their own words? (2) How do participants experience interfaith dialogue? (3) What do participants perceive that they learn or gain through participation in interfaith dialogue? A purposive sample of eleven participants who self-selected to attend the ILI were recruited through the assistance of the IFYC staff. The researcher conducted a brief face-to-face screening in Atlanta with each participant, followed by a semi-structured interview via Skype or phone. Data was analyzed using an interpretive phenomenological approach, inductively looking for themes to emerge. Results demonstrated that the lived-experience of interfaith dialogue was characterized by: (1) the role of the environment, (2) the value of individual relationships through sharing and storytelling, (3) holding an ecumenical worldview, which led to the (4) strengthening of the individual's faith or non-faith tradition. The results of this study support past research on curricular intergroup dialogue and serves as a vehicle to translate similar outcomes to a co-curricular format. Recommendations include: intentionally creating environments to foster interfaith dialogue, expanding formats of interfaith dialogue to include co-curricular options and experiential opportunities, and increasing religious literacy through education and training. In addition, expanding the faith discussion to include the secular and others that do not fit with the current paradigm of religion must be explored.

Resumen
With the surge of services offering video-on-demand through streaming and the increased competition in the field, the need for the provider of the service to be able to fit its content to its users is important. Machine learning can be utilized to in an automatic fashion find user or movie patterns by looking at features from its data.In this project I create a model with weighting schemes to find affective content from small texts and then explore the potential to also do this for movies by extracting affective features from the movies subtitles. The affective content is determined by using a dictionary with affective labeled words to in a Bag-of-Word fashion score sentences by a dimensional approach with three dimensions called Valence, Arousal and Dominance (V,A,D). The project also consist of a data gathering where two separate datasets are gathered with already V,A,D labeled data, one dataset is found online and the other is self-gathered. These datasets are then used for validation of the affective model and to find the best weighting schema. The best weighting schema is then used to determine affective content during the duration of a movie and utilized to find interesting segment in a movie but also to compare movies and find similarities.I find that the performance of my model is somewhat decent with best scores on the dimensions Valence and Arousal and that there are small difference based on which weighting schema is used for the model. I find that the model shows potential in the movie domain, by finding interesting segments in a movie but also finding scene-similarities between movies. It does however have its limitation by not being able to distinguish genres and missing affective content expressed through visual or audio cues. Finally I argue my model could be incorporated into a larger machine learning model to determine similarities in movies or find user patterns but it also requires similar models to determine affective content from the audio and visual in the movie

Resumen
With the first commitment of the Kyoto Protocol commencing in 2008, many signatory governments have identified bio fuels as a favoured response to the problem of fulfilling their countries' pledges to reduce total greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels. Despite the tendency for pressure over climate change to expedite the commercialisation process, detailed evaluation of the claimed benefits, likely efficacy or environmental impact of bio fuels in New Zealand in the form of the Bio fuels Sales Obligation policy (BSO): a mandate place on the Oil Companies to supply a percentage of bio fuel. Systems thinking propound the notion of complex interrelatedness: a pivotal concept in our current understanding of the cumulative effects of greenhouse gas emissions and their relationship to climate change. It also recognizes that the multiple ways in which different stakeholders perceive a contentious question are an integral feature of any problematical situation. By applying systems concepts to qualitative research, Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) is therefore particularly suitable for the analysis of multiple stakeholder discourse in this situation. The present study employs SSM to examine stakeholder opinion through the construction of conceptual models in the form of rich pictures and root definitions. The researcher invited diverse stakeholders to ‘see what they were thinking’ and reflect upon the beliefs and assumptions that informed their views with respect to New Zealand bio fuels development. With reference to official documentation arising from the policy development process and through a series of interviews and a focus group, the research examines perceptions of the consultation process on bio fuels development and its contribution to informed decision-making. The study data indicates that the scope of enquiry tended to be restricted by early presuppositions regarding the consultation process and its desired outcomes, which consequently shifted the focus of consultation the enquiry from an assessment of the desirability of bio fuels to an appraisal of the feasibility of government policy. However inadvertently, communication was distorted. The research examines the basic assumptions that shaped the discourse and enabled already established opinions to prevail. Furthermore, the thesis explores how using SSM to surface tacit assumptions and challenge proposed models of intervention can help improve the reflexivity of discourse and decision-making. By ensuring open communication remains at the centre of discourse, SSM could provide a means of establishing productive conditions for learning and co-creative dialogue. Consequently the study has important implications for how the ‘health’ of public discourse in New Zealand might be sustained when addressing other similarly complex issues.

I discuss the methodology and conclusiveness of the corpus-based historical linguistics and analyze two formal models predicting the language-internal variation in Early Old Russian syntax. Linguistic models claiming a rigid distribution of grammatical features like ± overt realization of agreement markers activate hidden corpus characteristics such as profiles of text genres, chronology, vector of change, ± impact of L2, ± presence of supra-dialect features. In this case they can be valued and checked on text samples, where genre features are stable, while location and time vary.

Resumen
The corpus study of grammatical variation is not considered a complex task anymore. However, the corpus annotations used to solve the task are based on specific theoretical assumptions which do not necessarily cover all possible variants found in empirical material. On the example of the German preposition wegen and its variation in case government this article shows why available tools in corpus managers can be insufficient. An experiment is presented in which data obtained from annotated corpora are automatically labeled using a developed algorithm. An analysis of the corpus material showed that the preposition wegen primarily governs the genitive (about 60% of all uses). The dative, which is recognized by modern linguistics as a conventional variant, is relatively rare (5%). Additionally, the analysis also revealed that for 35% of nouns following wegen case cannot be determined, a phenomenon which is not mentioned in the corresponding dictionary entries of all lexicographic sources known to us. Thus it is not possible to identify the proportion of such underdetermined instances of case government using only the existing annotation of the analyzed corpora, since it did not include tags for nouns with no clear case assignment.

Modern applied linguistics includes a substantial amount of spoken language analysis, and current Natural Language Processing techniques allow working with large amounts of audio data. This article demonstrates a method for conducting primary research of late bilinguals' speech, which is particularly relevant in the context of modern globalization. Using a small sample as an example, the paper presents the methodology testing the informants' speech, including technical approaches for speech collecting, processing, and interpretation. The dataset for the analysis is the interview recordings, which took place after the informants watched a silent film.

Resumen
This paper describes a solution for the RUSSE Detoxification competition held as part of the Dialogue 2022 conference. The paper presents experiments based on autoregressive and non-autoregressive models. The following approaches are described in this paper: 1) Detoxification as a special case of the text style-transfer problem and the use of modern approaches to solve this task in Russian. 2) Using the Automatic Post-Editing algorithm as a task of translation from toxic to normative Russian text. The article provides an analysis of the listed models, their results in detoxification of sentences, as well an analysis of errors and reasons why the models gave such a diverse result.

Resumen
The probing methodology allows one to obtain a partial representation of linguistic phenomena stored in the inner layers of the neural network, using external classifiers and statistical analysis. Pre-trained transformer-based language models are widely used both for natural language understanding (NLU) and natural language generation (NLG) tasks making them most commonly used for downstream applications. However, little analysis was carried out, whether the models were pre-trained enough or contained knowledge correlated with linguistic theory. We are presenting the chronological probing study of transformer English models such as MultiBERT and T5. We sequentially compare the information about the language learned by the models in the process of training on corpora. The results show that 1) linguistic information is acquired in the early stages of training 2) both language models demonstrate capabilities to capture various features from various levels of language, including morphology, syntax, and even discourse, while they also can inconsistently fail on tasks that are perceived as easy. We also introduce the open-source framework for chronological probing research, compatible with other transformer-based models. https://github.com/EkaterinaVoloshina/chronological_probing

Resumen
Argumentation analysis is a field of computational linguistics that studies methods for extracting arguments from texts and the relationships between them, as well as building argumentation structure of texts. This paper is a report of the organizers on the first competition of argumentation analysis systems dealing with Russian language texts within the framework of the Dialogue conference. During the competition, the participants were offered two tasks: stance detection and argument classification. A corpus containing 9,550 sentences (comments on social media posts) on three topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic (vaccination, quarantine, and wearing masks) was prepared, annotated, and used for training and testing. The system that won the first place in both tasks used the NLI (Natural Language Inference) variant of the BERT architecture, automatic translation into English to apply a specialized BERT model, retrained on Twitter posts discussing COVID-19, as well as additional masking of target entities. This system showed the following results: for the stance detection task an F1-score of 0.6968, for the argument classification task an F1-score of 0.7404. We hope that the prepared dataset and baselines will help to foster further research on argument mining for the Russian language.

Resumen
This article describes our solution for the RUSSE Detoxification 2022 text automatic detoxification competition held as part of the Dialogue 2022 conference. Our approach consisted in filtering the p rovided training data set, fine-tuning the pretrained ruGPT3 model and selecting examples of detoxified (neutral) sentences generated with its help based on their cosine proximity and ROUGE-L to the input toxic sentence for their subsequent processing using the ruPrompts library for ruGPT-3. The final stage of processing the generated neutral comments was carried out using the Delete method - an uncontrolled detoxification model based on rules, which deleted all the remaining coarse and absentee words stored in the dictionary provided by the organizers. At the Human Evaluation stage, the system received a chrF metric value of 0.455; at the Automatic Evaluation stage - 0.505, and took eighth place at Manual Evaluation. We conducted a review and analysis of examples of detoxified sentences obtained using our model. The analysis showed that some of the generated neutral sentences in most cases lose the meaning of the original toxic sentence, and also retain either a full negative connotation or a partial one.

Resumen
On the basis of scientific analysis the article authors develop a scheme that allows planning and organizing the process of learning foreign languages with the use of dialogic didactic means during foreign language training of future miners. The article gives a definition of „educational dialogue‟, observes its structure, and defines its stages: modeling (a future educational dialogue model designing and ways of its implementation at a lesson); motivational (identifying problem, task for solving which encourage further active learnsearch activity of educational dialogue participants); searching (finding out/discovering an effective or new method of problem solving; searching answers to the question); disputing (presenting and discussing results, different positions, viewpoints); concluding (analyzing results, summarizing, substantiating the best chosen way of solving tasks, versions, and opinions). The authors give recommendations for dialogic interaction organizing in the process of forming a foreign professionally oriented speech competence of mining students

Resumen
This document makes an assessment of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement (PDCA) between Cuba and the European Union (EU) in its four years of validity, and of the evolution of political and economic relations between both parties. The analysis is structured in five headings that address the background, determinants and significance of the PDCA between Cuba and the EU; the main elements discussed in the political dialogue —and in thematic dialogue— between the two parties since 2018, and the central aspects of trade, investment and cooperation relations between Cuba and the EU. The report concludes that, unlike the United States, the EU is able to support the complex process of economic and institutional transformations underway in Cuba, in four fundamental areas: i) technical assistance and advice for the design and implementation of public policies, macroeconomic management, decentralisation and local development; ii) cooperation to fight climate change and transform Cuba’s productive and technological structure; iii) the promotion and encouragement of foreign investment flows from Europe, targeting key productive sectors; and iv) the exploration of financial opportunities for Cuba through the European Investment Bank (EIB) under the current PDCA.
