Texto completoDuring the late Qing dynasty, a multitude of French engineers embarked on journeys to various regions of the Chinese Empire, assuming diverse and evolving roles in Franco-Chinese relations. Despite their diverse backgrounds, they were typically youthful and shared some common professional traits. They often enjoyed substantial compensation and prestigious honors throughout their careers, leading to remarkable upward social mobility. Their numbers witnessed significant growth from the mid-19th to the early 20th century. Initially, military engineers held dominance, but they gradually ceded ground to engineers from the state civil corps and civilian engineers who assumed multifaceted roles in commerce and industry. Concurrently, many military engineers entered private commercial ventures, which were expanding and diversifying. The enduring presence of French engineers in China was predominantly composed of civil engineers, drawn by factors such as marriage, religion and culture. Within the Chinese Empire, France leveraged its technical expertise to compete with other industrial powers. These engineers accomplished impressive infrastructural projects within the Chinese Empire, leaving behind them a rich historical legacy. Although not always synonymous with economic success, their achievements showcased both their technical expertise and the technological prowess of the French industrial landscape during the 19th and 20th centuries. Their written works, encompassing reports, blueprints, narratives, and familial correspondences, alongside photographic records and archives they amassed, serve as invaluable resources for historical research. Despite their role in technology transfer, historical constraints limited their impacts

Texto completoIn our days, the role of a development pole lies in the fact that this pole can exercise impulsion effets on it's environment and serve as engile for the development of a given unity. In order to succeed in applying the theory of development poles in the developping countries, on the one hand, the poles should be closely linked to their milieu; on the other hand, there should be volontary and coherent action for diffusing the impulsion effets producted by the poles. For more than thirty years, china has won tremendous success in her social and economic development; but, on the whole, the chinese economy has been still badly acticulated. The initial growth has produces little reaction; the modern industry development and the industrial urban centres development haven't brought about a correlative development in the other sectors and in the rural areas. In the future, china should aim at an integrated development

Texto completoThe main part of the thesis is to describe the Chinese economic growth, to study the shift of system and institutions. In the first part, we study the evolution of system from the soviet model to the Chinese model which with the characteristic of the leading role of the budgetary policy in the income distribution and in the investment allocation. Then, we study the impact of reform at the economic system ; these reforms have followed the decentralized model, concerning many economic fields. The evolution of Chinese economic system then is inserted two important phenomenon : the rural industry and the zes. The evolution concerns, off course, the behaviors of organization. We take up particularly the behaviors of three enterprises subject to investment, because of the importance of this grandeur in Chinese economy

Texto completoSince the beginning year of the 1990s, inflows of foreign investment to developing countries have increased rapidly. As a developing country as China has collected a mass foreign investment, particularly foreign direct investment due to the economic reform which orients the country to a market economy. A developing country can profit from the foreign investment, because it can relieve the difficulties of capital shortage, stimulate a rapid growth of its economy, improve the living standards of its people and raise the competitiveness of their firms either in domestic markets or in international markets. Nevertheless, some foreign investments may take some negative effects to the economy of a host country. . .

Texto completoThe last two five-year plans, the Chinese government puts the development of rural areas at the forefront of its priorities. The development strategy relies heavily on industrialization and urbanization, which on one hand, does not take into account the characteristics of rural areas, and on the other hand, is in contradiction with the objectives of environmental protection and social stability in the rural areas. Rural development has seen as the spread of urban development. This thesis sought ways to achieve socially sustainable development projects in rural China. Assuming that sustainable techniques and sustainable economic Systems exist, the central problem is to find ways to apply them within the Chinese context. The second objective is to determine which player is able to develop a model of sustainable development in this context, and how it can justify its actions with existing players such as local governments and entrepreneurs. The thesis describes an action-research. The field work was located in a village in Hebei province called Zhenbiancheng, where projects were launched to rehabilitate cultural heritage through tourism, guest houses, and promotion of local products. Cultural heritage is put at the center of the village developmental capacity. These initiatives provide an opportunity to study the reaction of the population and local government. This first set of actions prepared the next level of intervention of the next area of five surrounding villages. This development proposal is discussed through a comparison with other alternative models of development, such as the one expressed by the "New Rural Reconstruction Movement", whose projects are mostly limited in term

Texto completoThe reform implemented in china since 1978 has substantially transformed its economic geography. The province of Guangdong played a pioneering role in this unprecedented change. This thesis describes Guangdong’s economic development since 1978 and analyzes the impact of its growth on the restructuring of china's economic space. In the first section, the historical and geographic background of Guangdong is explained. Understanding its humble beginnings emphasizes the dramatic nature of progress made there. The extent of its geographic (seaside, southern and peripheral) and human (Cantonese diaspora) impact is given. The second section covers its development: agriculture, industry, exportation, foreign investment, infrastructure, training and research. The third section breaks down the spatial impact of rapid development: - as a province: acceleration of urbanization; creation of a large-scale urban network on the pearl river delta in the south of the province ; spatial and economic integration with Hong Kong ; and creation of an economic center with great potential. - as a seaside region : the role of Cantonese stimulation in the rapid growth of two additional areas of growth - one on the Yangtze river delta with shanghai as the center, the other around the golf of Bohai with both Beijing and Tianjin as centers. - as a nation acceleration of seaside development and aggravation of disparities between the three main regions of the country : the east, the center and the west. Does the Chinese government still have a policy for land management ? To conclude, pursuant to a brief overview of the various theories on development, the economic and spatial transformation is analyzed over long-term. In light of the switch in economic centers of gravity in Chinese history, it is better understood why Guangdong’s growth played such an exceptional role. The coexistence of three growth centers in the seaside region has never been done before in China

Texto completoSince the third plenary session of the eleventh central committee of the Chinese communist party held in 1978, the relations between the state and the intellectuals have changed. The state legitimized the intellectuals' role, the intellectual libery and their economic interests. Moreover, the state encouraged their participation in the political and economic institutions. Nevertheless, the reform-minded intellectuals asked for more liberty, political, and economic reform. The state is confronted with the claim of the intellectuals for the democratization of the political system

Texto completoThis thesis proposes an analysis on the different trends of diversification in rural China during the reform period (1978-2001). After a detailed review of the national and regional evolution of the three diversification trends, namely crop diversification, agro-forestry diversification and agro-industrial diversification, the thesis explores the different determinants of the diversification, with a particular attention paid to two kinds of factors, commercial and climatic risks and institutional reforms. Empirical analysis with a provincial panel dataset (29 provinces between 1985-2001) shows that the observed diversification is, on one hand, a rationale response to the abundant risks in rural areas, and on the other hand, the result of the many institutional reforms such as the market development. .
