Resumen

Abstract This research focuses on analyzing Clarence Michael James Dennis's character and works that illustrate the atmosphere of natural beauty and romance in Australia when during and after the war. In this paper also explained that the development of literary works in the UK affect the development of literary works in Australia. The works sampled in this study are the works of C.J Dennis made before World War 1, until after World War 1 was completed. The values of humanity, the atmosphere of war, and romance became the cirikhas of C. Dennis's poems. The study concludes that C. J Dennis is a world writer thanks to his synchronized work and is relevant to the issues that can be absorbed by the world community, as well as explaining how the first world war from the standpoint of the army world. ---Penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis tokoh dan karya Clarence Michael James Dennis yang menggambarkan suasana keindahan alam dan percintaan di Australia ketika saat dan setelah perang. Pada paper ini juga dijelaskan bahwa perkembangan karya sastra di Inggris mempengaruhi perkembangan karya sastra di Australia. Karya-karya yang dijadikan sample pada penelitian ini adalah karya-karya C.J Dennis yang dibuat sebelum perang dunia 1, hingga setelah perang dunia 1 selesai. Nilai-nilai kemanusiaan, suasana perang, dan percintaan menjadi cirikhas dari sajak-sajak C.J Dennis. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa C.J Dennis merupakan sastrawan dunia berkat karya-karyanya yang sinkron dan relevan dengan isu yang dapat diserap oleh masyarakat dunia, serta menjelaskan tentang bagaimana perang dunia pertama dari sudut pandang dunia tentara.DOI : 10.15408/bat.v24i1.7005

Resumen

A biodiversidade do Pantanal é praticamente desconhecida, principalmente em relação aos fungos. Em conseqüência da devastação pelo avanço da pecuária, grande parte da vegetação natural em áreas de fácil acesso foi suprimida, restando fragmentos de cerrado, extensas pastagens e leiras formadas pelo acúmulo da madeira derrubada. Em alguns locais, como na região do Pantanal do Rio Negro, parte da vegetação nativa foi relativamente preservada e nela, durante o ano de 2006, foram realizadas cinco excursões de coleta de fungos, nos períodos mais secos. Cinqüenta e seis espécies de Basidiomycetes e uma de Ascomycetes macroscópicos foram identificadas. Todas as espécies estão sendo citadas pela primeira vez para o Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul e região do Pantanal, e Collybia bakeri Dennis, Entoloma cerussatum Pegler, Epithelopsis fulva (G. Cunn.) Resumen

The article examines the sources and specifics of the first attempt at a systematic description of Chinese folklore for comparative purposes. The index of Chinese folk tales in the 12th chapter of NB Dennis’s monograph “The Folklore of China” (1876) was based on a scheme by S. BaringGould, attached to the collection of English folklore by W. Henderson (1866). In turn, Baring-Gould improved the model created by J.-G. von Hahn that was published in the first volume of the Greek and Albanian tales’ collection (1864). The 1876 index is shorter than its predecessors: it has 15 “roots” (approximately corresponding to the tale types), 9 of which Dennis identified himself; von Hahn had 40 such types, and Baring-Gould had 51. If von Hahn and Dennis in their constructions considered the position of migrationists, Baring-Gould proceeded only from the early ideas of the mythological school about a single ancient source of IndoEuropean folklore. Dennis had a broader perspective that allowed him in his book to take into account the parallels between the mythological traditions of all inhabited continents; however, in the index, he compares Chinese tales mainly with Indo-European, which reflects the influence of the “Sino-Aryan” movement, popular among Sinologists in the 1870s

_ In 1997, JPT debuted a monthly feature that represented an unconventional approach in meeting SPE’s goal of disseminating technical information to its members. Soon titled “Technology Focus,” the feature brought together subject-matter experts (SMEs) in a range of important industry topics to review technical-paper abstracts gathered from the previous year of SPE meetings, as well as the Offshore Technology Conference. Its architect, engineer, and pilot was Technology Editor Dennis Denney, who would become a familiar presence to SPE members and staff alike over a 17-year career, although his industry roots extended to his college days. Dennis helped recruit SMEs for review service; sent them hundreds of abstracts and full papers (monthly, that is; the cumulative count of papers he handled is likely a six-digit figure); answered their questions and concerns with prompt, supportive guidance; and then, once papers had been selected, synopsized them for publication in the magazine with the longtime help of Assistant Technology Editor Karen Bybee. As this writer well knows, condensing a 10,000-word paper on, say, distributed quasi-Newton derivative-free optimization methods for field development optimization into a 1,500-word summary that captures the novelty and technical sophistication of its authors’ work can be a daunting task. Applying his own background as a petroleum engineer to methodically analyze and trim each chosen paper, Dennis did just that dozens of times a year, transforming these texts into svelte packages that included only one table or figure to deliver the highest possible quantity of quality to JPT readers. When Dennis retired in 2013, I initially split his eyebrow-raising workload with fellow Technology Editor Adam Wilson (now JPT’s Special Publications Editor). It was immediately clear from the way that reviewers spoke about Dennis, and his contributions to the magazine and SPE itself, that he was held in the same high regard outside of the organization as he was within it, a testament to the reputation he had earned while working with so many members and SMEs. It was entirely fitting that, for JPT’s 75th anniversary celebration, we caught up with Dennis to reflect on his achievements in the industry and with the groundbreaking Technology Focus feature he created. Dennis lives with his wife Linda in Rockwall, Texas—not too far from SPE headquarters in Dallas, but not too close, either!—enjoying his retirement and his family. (Note: For more on the development and history of the Technology Focus features, read the companion piece to this article, “Technology Focus Topics Reflect Industry Growth, Evolution Over 25+ Years.”) Why did you decide to go into the field of petroleum engineering? I worked several years as an engineering tech, testing gas wells, tracking well and reservoir pressures, and writing computer programs to analyze pressure data. The department manager encouraged me to finish my degree and become a petroleum engineer. So, after I received a scholarship from J. Harold Dunn (at age 28), my wife and I sold our house, packed our things into a U-Haul truck, and loaded two young kids into the car to move to Bryan/College Station to attend Texas A&M University.
