Resumen
<span lang="EN-US">Online learning has become an integral part of today’s educational system, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. In art and design classrooms, which usually require face-to-face critique as part of a cycle of action and reflection, students may face challenges with the rapid transition to online assessment and feedback approaches. Consequently, it is curial to investigate these challenges as well as students’ perceptions towards the online assessment and feedback methods that they have experienced. This student-oriented study investigated art and design students’ preferences, concerns, and challenges with online assessment and feedback strategies. Moreover, it explored the most effective online assessment and feedback tools and applications for art and design courses. The research adopted a quantitative method by conducting a questionnaire with 104 art and design students of a university in Bahrain and a university in Jordan. Based on the findings, the study seeks to ultimately provide art and design educators with insights and recommendations for the most effective art and design assessment practices.</span>

Resumen
In 1320, Pope John XXII launched a doctrinal enterprise of some import: the assimilation of practices of black magic into the crime of heresy. As was his custom, John sought the opinion of experts before taking a final decision that would entail, among other consequences, extending the jurisdiction of the inquisition to cover cases of black magic. In his recent study on medieval demonology, Alain Boureau has suggested that the question that truly concerned the pope was not witchcraft or ritual magic per se, but the role of the devil in these practices. Boureau based his thesis on a wide-ranging theory of late medieval representations of individual subjectivity and society, on the principle of “pact” or covenant between two free-willing parties. Away from old, static forms of social hierarchization, the fourteenth century favors a contractual structure that places the emphasis on the voluntary nature of the relation between individuals in society and between humans and God. Boureau develops his argument on the basis of the response offered by one of the members of the 1320 commission, the Franciscan Enrico del Carretto. Bishop of Lucca, Enrico had been among the experts in charge of judging the orthodoxy of the Franciscan Spirituals in 1318, and had also participated in the discussion towards the preparation of the bullCum inter nonnullos. We are thus in the presence of one of John XXII's curial cohort. Boureau accords particular value to Enrico's response because he is the only member of the commission who seems to draw attention to the real efficacity of demonic causality in black magic, thus offering the first explicit evidence of thetournant demonologiquetaking place in the medieval Church between the end of the thirteenth and the beginning of the fourteenth century.

Resumen
By 1190, King Richard I of England (1189-1199) had departed for the Third Crusade and had settled on William Longchamp, royal chancellor and bishop of Ely, as the chief justiciar, the king’s regent during the royal absence. But before Richard had even left the European continent, Longchamp’s justiciarship had provoked a powerful reaction from those subjected to it. The hue and cry lifted against the chief justiciar by leaders of the revolt that ousted him included accusations that Longchamp filled England and its offices with “foreigners and unknown men” and that he ruled without the appares, associates whom Richard had included in the regency to assist the chief justiciar. Recent research has shown that the latter charge is patently untrue but the former, utilizing foreigners and others unfamiliar with England and its government, was fundamentally true, at least with regard to justice and the shrievalties. Does Longchamp’s style of management repeat itself with castles and what were the implications for him, the kingdom, and the king? A cursory glance at events during his justiciarship shows that castles played a large role in the narrative, from the massacre of the Jews at York Castle to the arrest of Archbishop Geoffrey at Dover Castle. Though the evidence is of a more tentative nature than that for judicial activity and shrievalties, Longchamp employed in this critical position men close to him, both personal dependents and tested curial servants, a pattern of appointment markedly different from that of the king. Richard I’s practices benefited the baronage, but the chancellor’s determination to bring as many castles as possible under his direct control worked to alienate the chief justiciar from his subjects and disastrously eroded his power base.

Resumen
This study is built upon the living conditions and life history of the maroon community of Curiaú de Dentro, in the Brazilian State of Amapá. These conditions manifest themselves in beliefs, values, symbols and representations, which conform and signify the eating practices as bodily and emotional needs. The subjects of this study are the women, men and children of this village, and the object their food habits and beliefs and all the values that speak of food, the body, everyday life and nutrition. The methodology is built on the anthropological, social and anthropometric approaches, making use of participatory observation, application of questionnaires, gathering of anthropometric data. In Curiaú de Dentro, the eating practices reflect the interaction of the afro-descendent culture with the environment, establishing themselves as a strategy to face hunger and periods of food scarcity and abundance. The reflection of the daily food practices of the families can be seen in the high prevalence of acute malnutrition in the children below six years of age, as an indication of the level of food and nutritional insecurity faced by the community, a consequence of the seasonal difference in access to food, the absence of food supplementation programs, inadequate sanitation, and low coverage of health services. The emotions values, perceptions, beliefs and the eating practices perceived in the study reflect the degree of social exclusion in which the inhabitants of Curiaú live.

Resumen
Article 184 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code has limitedly determined legal evidence according to the law, however, in the last few years, the Indonesian Court of Justice has emerged Amicus Curiae. In this study, it will be discussed the legal basis for judges to apply the Amicus Curiae as evidence of a crime in positive law in Indonesia today (ius constitutum) then the second issue will discuss the Amicus Curiae as evidence development in the KUHAP in the future come (ius constituendum). The research method used is normative juridical or library research related to normative legal substances, to find the truth based on scientific logic from the normative side by examining library materials or secondary data consisting of primary and secondary legal materials. Amicus Curiae is a legal concept that is not well known in Indonesia which adheres to the Civil Law legal system. The legal concept of Amicus Curiae is indeed only practiced in the traditions of countries that adhere to the common law legal system. The proof using the Amicus Curiae concept has been found in many cases in Indonesia. However, legally the Amicus Curiae has not been regulated in positive law in Indonesia.

Resumen
The judicial system in Indonesia is dynamic and adaptive to the development of science and law, not least within the scope of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, one of which relates to the amicus curiae (friends of the judiciary). In practice, amicus curiae are generally presented in cases or trials that get public attention and the livelihoods of many people, such as the environment, land, labor, and so on. Nevertheless, there is no regulation or Supreme Court Regulation on the application of amicus curiae in the trial, but various practices have occurred within the court. This paper will discuss: (a) how the concept of amicus curiae is in the justice system in several countries, (b) the practice and application of amicus curiae in the judiciary in Indonesia, and (c) the opportunity for the Supreme Court to issue regulations or circulars that seek to regulate the implementation of the amicus curiae as part of legal developments in Indonesia. This writing uses a qualitative method with a normative juridical approach. The results of this paper conclude that amicus curiae have become a good practice in the judicial system in Indonesia, especially in public cases, and the Supreme Court has the authority to make arrangements through PERMA as a foundation and procedure guide for all judicial personnel and society in Indonesia.

Resumen
Abstract The ancient sources frequently mention heated debates during meetings of the Roman senate under the early empire. Such debates could become so intense they might even threaten to impede the Senate’s decision-making abilities. Nevertheless, senatorial debate in the curia was not necessarily dysfunctional: in fact, it had a crucial instrumental function. Potential dissent among members of the senate could be discussed and settled before voting began, taking it out of the decision-making process proper. The symbolic dimensions of senatorial altercationes were if possible even more important, because the existence of communicative dissent showed that discussions still happened in the curia: proof that the Senate was still a functioning political entity. A combined agent-centred and institutional-historical methodological approach allows us to track not only individual practices of dispute, competition, and raising one’s profile, but to perceive more clearly the impact and the function disputes had for the Senate’s debating culture as a whole.

The revolutions of 1848 shook the Principality of Monaco. After seceding, Menton and Roquebrune became part of France in 1861, in exchange for financial compensation and road access. More than ever reduced to a confetti state, but now free from any protectorate, the Principality regained real independence at a time when the trend was towards national unifications. But to be viable, the small country needed to be rebuilt. The rebuilding was first and foremost economic, as demonstrated by the boom in winter tourism. It was also diplomatic, and Monaco, like any traditional power, endeavoured to become part of the "concert of nations" by developing consular and diplomatic representations and signing treaties. It was also an institutional overhaul, supported by the construction of a state apparatus, which led to the granting of a constitution in 1911. Finally, it was a cultural revival, of which the Monte-Carlo Opera, Monaco's participation in Universal Exhibitions and Prince Albert I's personal involvement in the Sciences are the most remarkable examples. For the Princes of Monaco, it was a question of asserting a fragile sovereignty, since it was not based on commercial or military power. While multiplying the legal and symbolic attributes of power, they developed a brilliant social life, as well as a court life designed to serve as a relay and quench their thirst for representation. From a personal point of view, in this context of change, the challenge for Charles III and Albert I was not only to consolidate their regime, but also to maintain their position

[Watermark not visible] This project describes the results from the use of durability index tests as a tool for the investigation of the concrete curing practice in the Cape Town area. The object of the tests was to determine the effect environmental conditions have on the physical properties of the outer skin of concrete. The laboratory work involved the exposure of three concrete strengths to various relative humidities. The site work involved testing the cured outer surface of concrete at 28 days on six construction sites. The oxygen permeability and water sorptivity tests were used to investigate the outer surface of concrete. The laboratory work showed that curing at a relative humidity of 90 had a beneficial effect on the durability index values, while curing at 60 relative humidity was less effective. The permeability and sorptivity of the site results remained constant as the actual strength increased. Furthermore, permeability and sorptivity increased as the average evaporation rate increased.

CAPES
This thesis discusses the presence of Faustino Ribeiro Junior in Bahia - a white 'healer', educated and member of a traditional family - intending to show the impact that he caused on the society of the time. When he was in the State of Bahia in 1903, in the context of urban and health reforms, the elites of Bahian society lived in a constant search for what was understood as "civilized", "progressive", "modern" according to the ideology of the recent Republic. In this scenario, the presence of Faustino has made the local newspapers linked to political groups use their image to try to project themselves in the political game. The curator was seen by the Hygiene Inspection as an element what represented delay for the local society, chasing him and mobilizing the devices available at the time to coerce the "healer". This text aims to present and analyze, in the hostile scenario to healing practices, how health, legal, political and social issues have permeated Faustino's action. We seek to discuss such questions in order to understand the relationship between the Hygiene Inspection, the government and Justice.

This research aims to reflect on the cultural and religious universe of women healer and man healer from the town Governador Mangabeira, Recôncavo Southern Bahia, from 1950 to 1970 decades, emphasizing their role in the communities where they live. These historical subjects make part of working and black classes, who, forced by economic necessities, were inserted into the working world yet in the childhood. Due to racial factors, most of them were allocated in the post- abolition second generation, which made them perambulate through the region in search of a better life, because migrations through Recôncavo Southern Bahia were very intense until 1950. Thus, by elucidating everyday experiences, especially in terms of working and religious blessing practice aspects, this work aimed to reflect on individual and collective identities built in the process. The permanency of cultural elements presented in the blessing practice extent reveals particularities of people regarding relations they firm to the supernatural, the sicknesses and cures, their expectations, feelings and the possibility to transcend from the tough reality. The following sources were used in this study: periodicals Folha do Norte and Jornal A tarde and oral testimonials of the historical subjects involved in the historical context under discussion.

The actual dissertation aims to reflect about the popular practices of healing and medical science in the state of CearÃ, Brazil, during the second half of the 19th century. The book âMedicina Caseiraâ (organized in 1919 by Juvenal Galeno) was taken as analysis source and object, because it showed itself as a disturbing production, since it deals with homemade recipes, popular practices of healing during that period, in a moment that medical science in Cearà was beginning to structure itself as a legitimating science of health and disease. Througt the process of investigation, some points of convergence and divergence were found out among the practices of healing that are related with scientific and popular knowledge. Such a perception allowed us to think about how these popular practices of healing are found at the present time and even, in some cases, were appropriated into the scientific medicine in its processo of affirmation while intervening practice in the social arena and in its search of institutionalization.

The present study has as starting point the arrest of the Spanish occult Jose Maria Dominguez y Dominguez, accused of practicing illegal medical practice. From the narration of this event we seek to understand who this person was and what were the practices of healing and representation used during the period in which the process was open between 1923 and 1928 for him. Decreasing the scale of observation, attribute of micro -history, helped us to see the sociocultural universe that individual. In times when the sources cannot give us the answers sought, we make use of the concept of |likelihood| of Natalie Davis, looking historically determined the possibilities for the study period. The concepts of representation and appropriation practices were used according to the definition made by Roger Chartier. Dominguez had a practice of healing hybrid, formed by traditional medicine, modern medicine and magical practices of the occult, who became a mediator between different cultural forms. The notion of |mediator| was used by Peter Burke to understand the role of subjects alternate between |literacy| and |traditional oral culture|, in which case we studied is the healing practices used by academic and medical practices popular cure. The |civilizing| project of the Brazilian government sought the end of some of these practices. The actions that sought to modernize Aracaju agreed with this project. At a time of transformation, Dominguez, fighting for the survival of their practices, finding footholds in social and cultural settings that participated.

The goal of this work is to map religious healing and myth-magic practices, pointing them at the present time on Ilha de Santa Catarina. The text runs around the hypothesis that they reveal world views which, like in the second half of 20th century, remains in the memories of many inhabitants of the Island in 19th century. The evaluated corpus is constituted, basically, of written texts and ads featured in local newspapers, such as in almanacs, pamphlets, and printed and handwritten prayers, photographs, pictures from the period corresponding to the second half of 20th century and to the beginning years of 19th century. The argument presented in this essay tries showing that, in that period s Ilha de Santa Catarina , there is an written texts production which is intended to be read from and to a specific amount of the population as an attempt to civilize the body-healing practices through reading

The aim of this thesis is to correlate slavery and health in the Ilha de Santa Catarina, between 1850 and 1888. The intent is to demonstrate the significant presence of Africans and their descendants as slaves, freed or free people of color amongst the whole population of this geographic locality. This research uncovers the modalities of their work, as well as their strategies to survive in a context of exploration of slave labor and increasing movements for emancipation and abolition. From the perspective of health, it intends to show how doctors, surgeons and pharmacists, who graduated in universities created after Brazilian independence, stood against the popular healing practices of Africans and their descendants. Moreover, it points to the frequency wherewith health professionals resorted to the knowledge and practices of black healers, within a society that likewise accepted those kinds of popular health treatments. To debate the discourses about health and slavery in Brazil and in the Ilha de Santa Catarina elucidates the contradictions that mark the discourses of both the intellectuality and the press in the nineteenth century. Considering the precarious living conditions of enslaved people besides the free and emancipated Africans and their descendants, also submitted to frequent violence this research questions the level of interaction between social medicine and slavery. In this sense, this thesis considers how health and disease issues were thought in relation to them, and to which level they embraced the official medicine of the period.

Resumen
This volume collects the outcomes of the conference Art – Law – Restoration, that was held at the University Ca’ Foscari of Venice in July 2021. Through the studies outlined by several international scholars, crucial aspects of the history of the heritage protection and restoration in sixteenth- to nineteenth-century Europe are reconsidered, combining different disciplines and geographical contexts into a comparative perspective. The systems elaborated in the early modern States to safeguard artefacts, monuments, and antiquities are evaluated following multifarious approaches – including archaeology, art history, history of law, social history, and the history of museums. Particular consideration is given to the practices established in the Kingdom of Naples, Spain, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Greece, Prussia, the Papal States, Portugal, and the Scandinavian Countries to protect what they thought of as ‘heritage’ respectively. The project LawLove and the publication of this volume are supported by the European Commission (Marie Skłodowska-Curie project no. 837857).

Resumen
This book is concerned with the modes and procedures of Anglo-papal diplomacy in the period 1305–60, when diplomatic affairs between England and the papacy intensified following the transfer of the papal curia to southern France in 1305 and on account of the on-going Anglo-French hostilities, which resulted in the outbreak of the Hundred Years’ War in 1337. On the one hand, the book investigates how diplomatic and administrative practices developed in England and at the papal curia from a comparative perspective, whilst, on the other, it questions the legacy and impact of international and domestic conflicts on diplomatic and administrative practices. In Part I, the book explores how foreign and diplomatic relations, conducted through both official and unofficial diplomatic communications among polities, prompted the need to adapt and ‘translate’ different traditions in order to forge a ‘shared language of diplomacy’. This was achieved thanks to the adaptation of house styles, formularies, and ceremonial practices, as well as through the contribution of intermediaries and diplomatic agents acquainted with different diplomatic and legal traditions. Part II of the book further assesses the impact of political change and conflict on administrative and diplomatic practices by means of four relevant case studies.

Resumen
This chapter examines one of the most underestimated areas of proof in investor-state arbitration—the proof of law. The first evidentiary principle governing proof of law is the maxim of iura novit curia, or the tribunal or court knows the law. The principle is fraught with difficulty when applied to investor-state arbitration. The practice of investor-state arbitration on its face disproves the assumption that tribunals know the law in a non-trivial sense. This difficulty does not mean, however, that iura novit curia is wholly inapplicable to investor-state arbitration. Rather, as the chapter shows, the principle must be carefully circumscribed in order to avoid potential annullable error.

Resumen
Abstract This introduction describes how the Rome Statute and the War on Terror influenced each other. The statute created a new field of practice providing power to the ICC prosecutor. His office and other relevant actors made specific legal decisions to launch or prevent the international criminal justice’s intervention in sovereign states. The book labeled this new field as jus ad Curiam to facilitate a dialogue between legal and international relations experts. It builds on the well-known distinction between jus ad Bellum and jus in Bello. Jus ad Bellum establishes the conditions under which states may resort to war or the use of armed force in general. Jus in Bello governs the conduct of parties engaged in an armed conflict, regardless of whether the hostilities’ initiation was just. Following the same logic, jus ad Curiam comprises the political and legal decisions determining an international criminal justice intervention in specific situations. Jus in Curiae could be defined as the substantial and procedural body of law regulating the actors engaged in litigation to prove the defendant’s responsibility. The Office of the Prosecutor applied the jus ad Curiam norms consistently, and still, its contribution to the prevention of crimes varied. The range is the result of the activity of many other actors. More than a century ago, Leo Tolstoy explained in War and Peace: “The movement of nations is caused not by power, nor by intellectual activity, nor even by a combination of the two as historians have supposed, but by the activity of all the people who participate in the events.”

Resumen
Abstract Moderate to severe loss circulation problem encountered while drilling is a major economic burden that increases the total well construction cost dramatically in some cases. This study will focus on best practices to mitigate curing losses in terms of prevention of potential loss by pre-treatment, locating and identifying the losses, identify the mechanism of losses and severity, curing losses strategies and their best drilling practices. In addition, the study will detail typical curing losses materials and their limitations. Finally, selected examples of recent developments in curing losses materials are detailed. The examples are activated nanoparticles dispersed fluid, Epoxy polymer resins, and sodium acid soluble cement solutions. Pre-treatment of loss circulation zone with proper size of bridging materials can reduce and eliminate mud losses into porous formations. The choice of bridging agents will depend on the formation characteristics. The moment of the occurrence (while drilling, circulating or tripping), the severity of the loss (seeping, partial or complete) and the exposed formations are the key factors to identify the best remedy for loss circulation. Losses to reservoir zones are handled differently than non-reservoir zones, wherein only acid soluble or non-damaging material is used in the pay-zone. Seepage losses occur in any formation type when the particle size distribution of the bridging agents is not optimum enough to create an effective seal. This paper describes three different types of novel loss circulation materials to control moderate to severe losses. The paper describes the development of a novel nanoparticle-based chemical treatment composition for its potential use as a loss circulation material. The gelation times were evaluated at different temperatures up to 300°F. The effects of pH and different concentration of activators on gelation times of the new treatment fluid has also been studied. Second example of LCM described in this paper is a novel resin composition comprising an epoxy resin and chemical activator to treat moderate to severe losses. The effect of the chemical activator concentration on the setting time of the resin composition was investigated to accomplish a controlled and delayed polymerization. The third example of LCM described in this paper involves a formulation consisting of an acid soluble cement and a sodium silicate gel that has a high potential to control moderate to severe loss circulation problem. The objective of this acid soluble loss circulation system technology was to design a solution to cure lost circulation in reservoir zones. This is the first study to discuss and detail such topics related to curing losses.

Resumen
Abstract. Conventional concrete has a low tensile strength, constrained ductility and little protection from crack propagation. The inward miniaturized scale of cracks, prompting weak disappointment of concrete. Investigations have been carried out in many countries on various mechanical properties, physical performance and durability of cement-based matrices reinforced with naturally occurring fibers including sisal, coconut, jute, bamboo, and wood fibers. Raised natural mindfulness and an expanding worry with an unnatural weather change have invigorated the search for materials that can supplant traditional engineered fiber. Characteristic fiber, for example, sisal strands show up as one of the great options since they are accessible in sinewy structure and can be separated from plant leaves, stalk, and products of the soil at exceptionally low expenses. In this work, the impact of sisal strands on the quality of cement for M25 evaluation has been examined by shifting the level of filaments in concrete. Fiber substance were shifted by 0.05%, 0.10%, 0.15%, 0.20%, 0.25%, 0.30%, 0.35% and 0.40% by volume of cement. Cubes, Cylinder and Prism were cast to assess the Compressive, Split Tensile and Flexural Strength test. Every one of the samples was tested for a time of 28 days curing. The results of fiber reinforced concrete for 28 days curing with a varied percentage of fiber were studied and it has been found that there is significant strength improvement with addition of sisal fiber in concrete.

Resumen
Abstract. Geopolymer composites made from sustainable ingredients which are used to make ecofriendly concrete in the infrastructure sector. The dramatic increase in infrastructure growth around the world demonstrates the daily demand for cement production. This study provides an overall view of research on the use of materials and the performance of geopolymer matrix based on strength and durability. Unlike cement, the reutilization of industrial by-products reduces greenhouse gas emissions during manufacture. Hence geopolymers can contribute to a better alternative to Portland cement. Natural raw materials, agricultural waste, and industrial waste by products from diverse industries are used as composite filler / binder materials in geopolymer matrix to improve workability , durability and reducing geopolymer concrete manufacturing costs. With the help of various curing procedures, the compressive strength of geopolymer concrete can be increased in a short amount of time. It has also been discovered that adding fibres to geopolymer concrete improves tensile strength, lowering the cost of structural maintenance.

Resumen
This research is a choreographic practice. It is a choreo-lingual exercise that dwells with notions of language, context and displacement as experiences of transition(ing). As a journey towards (and around) home, this trans-national study engages with logics and theoretical positions from Latin America alongside with Aotearoa (New Zealand). As part of my practice-led doctoral research, I propose a choreographic process that is crafted around the notion of an invitation poétics. In this practice, notions of host-guest relationships and the context of art residencies are the orientation devices for discussing issues on hospitality, the position of the “other” and counter-colonial approaches to dance practice, curationship and the locality of art/pedagogy. For this conference, I will focus on the discussion of Art residencies as curatorial terrains of be-longing, stepping into counter-colonial practices of curation. Valuing pluralist, poly relations that engage in response to a situated territory, I navigate with quilombola philosopher and quilombo historian Antonio Bispo dos Santos (2015) and Beatriz Nascimento (2018) to envision curatorial practices as experiences of confluence. To emphasise cura within the notion of curation is, amongst other things, to bring attention to care as the operative practice of election, one that operates less in the realms of selecting and vibrates more through the notions of healing and enchantment – curative exercises of making kin. I will share how, finding in art residencies a fertile ground for exploring invitation poétics, I have invited (and responded to invitations from) a range of people – amongst dancers, non-dancers, artists and non-artists – in extremely different contexts – schools, libraries, houses, churches, villages, studios, streets – and for disparate reasons, or with very distinct focuses – aesthetical, social, pedagogical and so on; and how these experiences led me to learn from notions of aquilombamento, provoking me to think of curatorial practices that value ecosystems of care, learning, experimenting, conversing and co-curating as a re:pairing practice that experiments through sensing belonging with place, time and relations through bio-interaction and cosmophilia.

Resumen
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) T 23 standard provides instructions for making and curing concrete test specimens in the field. However, further research is needed to compare the strength of the field-cured specimen with the strength of the actual in-place concrete item. The purpose of this research is to build an understanding of the current state of the practice for field-curing methods. Specifically, the research team conducted a literature review and questionnaire survey to identify the selection criteria and details of field-curing methods. The results of the literature data and survey outcomes indicate most transportation agencies use field-cured cylinders, followed by the maturity method, to decide when to open pavement to traffic or remove formwork or falsework. The most commonly used field method found among transportation agencies was curing the test specimens near (or on) the cast concrete in the same manner as the concrete item represented. The cylindrical specimens are mostly field cured in insulated boxes such as a cooler or under burlap/insulation near the concrete item. In contrast, beams are mostly field cured in a damp sandpit or under burlap/insulation near the concrete item. Other field-curing technologies used by agencies are match curing, SureCureTM cylinder-mold system, piezoelectric sensors, calorimetry, and penetration-resistance tests.

This article explores the evolving landscape of digital authoritarianism in Turkish cyberspace, focusing on the deceptive strategies employed by the AKP regime through AKtrolls, AKbots and hackers. Initially employing censorship and content filtering, the government has progressively embraced sophisticated methods, including the weaponization of legislation and regulatory bodies to curtail online freedoms. In the third generation of information controls, a sovereign national cyber-zone marked by extensive surveillance practices has emerged. Targeted persecution of critical netizens, coupled with (dis)information campaigns, shapes the digital narrative. Central to this is the extensive use of internet bots, orchestrated campaigns, and AKtrolls for political manipulation, amplifying government propaganda and suppressing dissenting voices. As Turkey navigates a complex online landscape, the study contributes insights into the multifaceted tactics of Erdogan regime’s digital authoritarianism.

Resumen
A healthy democracy requires that every citizen has an equal and effective vote. Further, all voters should be able to express their preferences easily and be confident that every effort has been made to record and count those preferences accurately. Unfortunately, poor ballot design hampers citizens’ ability to express their preferences. Inaccessible voter education materials limit voters’ ability to learn the information vital to participating in elections. Conversely, effective ballot and voter education design can lower ballot rejection rates, decrease the number of ballots that require curing, decrease the time it takes to vote, increase voter turnout, and ensure that every voter’s ballot is counted. This report reviews current policies across multiple states, including three states of interest: Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. We summarize nationwide best practices and suggest a series of evidence-based recommendations to improve ballot design, language and disability accessibility, and voter education materials.

Resumen
The Israeli isolate of Tomato yellow leaf curl geminivirus(TYLCV-Is) is a major tomato pathogen, causing extensive crop losses in Israel and in the south-eastern U.S. Yet, little is known about the molecular mechanisms of its interaction with tomato cells. One of the most interesting aspects of such interaction is how the invading virus counteracts the RNA silencing response of the plant. In the former BARD project, we have shown that TYLCV-Is V2 protein is an RNA silencing suppressor, and that this suppression is carried out via the interaction of V2 with the SGS3 component of the plant RNA silencing machinery. This reported project was meant to use our data as a foundation to elucidate the molecular mechanism by which V2 affects the SGS3 activity. While this research is likely to have an important impact on our understanding of basic biology of virus-plant interactions and suppression of plant immunity, it also will have practical implications, helping to conceive novel strategies for crop resistance to TYLCV-Is. Our preliminary data in regard to V2 activities and our present knowledge of the SGS3 function suggest likely mechanisms for the inhibitory effect of V2 on SGS3. We have shown that V2 possess structural and functional hallmarks of an F-box protein, suggesting that it may target SGS3 for proteasomal degradation. SGS3 contains an RNA-binding domain and likely functions to protect the cleavage produces of the primary transcript for subsequent conversion to double-stranded forms; thus, V2 may simply block the RNA binding activity of SGS3. V2 may also employ a combination of these mechanisms. These and other possibilities were tested in this reported project.

Resumen
arbon dioxide (CO₂) has a negative impact on the climate, but it also has several practical areas of use. Many industrial processes emit CO₂ in high concentrations, which could be captured to mitigate emissions while also creating valuable products. One example of such a process is biogas upgrading – a process separating renewable gases, where methane is taken care of for use as vehicle fuel or industrial energy carrier, while CO₂ is released into the atmosphere. The aim of this project has been to chart alternatives and technologies for taking care of green CO₂ from biogas upgrading, so-called carbon capture and utilization (CCU), and to investigate the conditions for applying these in a Swedish context. The work has been guided by the following research questions: * How large is the current and future potential for CCU from biogas production? * What are the possible areas of use for CO₂ from biogas production? * What factors influence the choice of areas of use for CO₂ from biogas production? * How large is the environmental benefit of CCU from biogas production? To answer these questions, calculations of potentials, a multi-criteria assessment and a life cycle assessment were carried out, based on the Swedish biogas production. A reference group comprising representatives for large Swedish companies within biogas production and biogas upgrading technology was used to enable coproduction and networking between the research group and the business sector. The production of CO₂ from biogas was estimated to 160,000 ton/year in 2020, with potential to increase to 540,000 – 840,000 ton/year in a few years and 790,000 – 1,230,000 ton/year in a longer perspective, as a consequence of an expected increase in the Swedish biogas production. A large share of the CO₂ is however produced at relatively small upgrading facilities, which could limit the feasibility for CCU due to high costs for investment and operation. Adding hydrogen to transform all the CO₂ into methane could potentially increase the methane production from biogas from 2 to 3 TWh/year in a short-term perspective and from 11 to 17 TWh/year in a long-term perspective, given sufficient access to hydrogen. Other ways of utilizing CO₂ from biogas include production of biomass or chemicals, concrete curing, pH control of process water and use as a refrigerant. The choice of CCU options can be influenced by environmental, technical, economic and policy-related aspects. From the biogas producers’ perspective, methanation is the option that is the most compatible with the existing production system and business model, while other solutions usually involve another actor taking care of the CO₂. Hydrogen is required for methanation as well as for production of chemicals. Another limiting factor are the high purity requirements on all CO₂ that is distributed and sold on the market. The geographical distribution of the production plants can also be a challenge. Several CCU options can improve the environmental performance of biogas by replacing fossil-based products. The potential climate impact is the lowest if the CO₂ is methanized with renewable hydrogen or mineralized in concrete, but other forms of environmental impact can also be reduced by applying these or other CCU options. For comparison, permanent storage of CO₂ in geological formations (carbon capture and storage, CCS) only reduces the climate impact, while it increases other forms of environmental impact. Furthermore, permanently storing biogenic CO₂ can make it difficult to reduce the use of fossil CO₂ and transition to a more sustainable society. The need for carbon in many essential processes and products suggests that biogenic CO₂ should be utilized and not stored.

Beliefs and practices about reproductive tract infections: Findings from a series of Philippine FGDs. Population Council, 1997. http://dx.doi.org/10.31899/rh1997.1012.

Texto completo
Resumen
The past decade has been characterized by increasing concern about the medical, social, and economic problems associated with reproductive tract infections (RTIs). The goal of preventing and curing RTIs is now being prioritized by public health agencies in the developing world. Very little research has been conducted on the problem of RTIs in the local context, and it would be helpful for program managers if the knowledge and beliefs now being held about RTIs were more clearly delineated. Knowing more about the way in which these illnesses are viewed by the community, about traditional practices for preventing and curing RTIs, and about the results of ongoing public health initiatives designed to deal with these conditions is also needed. The present study, as this report states, utilizes a qualitative research technique known as focus group discussions as a means of stimulating people to speak up on this subject. While the study won’t provide precise statistical profiles of study respondents, it should allow a first-hand glimpse of the ways in which RTIs are perceived and responded to by a group of "typical" Filipinos.
