Texto completoThe trend, in the french book industry of the nineteen nineties, is to grant an increasingly narrow place to literary creation - i. E. New works by known or unknown authors, who write their books themselves, and who devote care and thought to the creative quality of their writing and their style. This thesis analyses current thinking on literary creation and publishing (in the (medias and among publishers), in an attempt to identify and explain the mechanisms (especially the economic mechanisms) that are tending to eliminate literary creation from french book industry today

Texto completoAt the end of the Ming Dynasty, Baoweng laoren has selected forty tales of the three collections of Feng Menglong and two collections of Ling Mengchu to compile another anthology entitled Jingu qiguan 今古奇觀 (curious spectacles of today and of the past). This anthology was a huge success at the time of its publication, and is constantly reprinted for centuries until today. Today it is considered as a main representative work of Chinese literature in vernacular language. The reputation of Jingu qiguan has already exceeded the Chinese border since a long time. Since the 18th century, three tales of the Jingu qiguan were translated for the first time in Europe by a French Jesuit. Therefore, throughout the centuries, the Jingu qiguan has experienced a lot of partial translations, retranslations and adaptation across Europe. Only in French, there are about thirty translations, retranslations and rewrite of Jingu qiguan. So that leads us to wonder why these stories have constantly been translated and retranslated, or even rewritten. Who have translated them and how they have been translated? How these translations did had some influence in the local literature? This study is intended to cover all these issues
Lin, Chonghui. "Le théâtre de monologue (1900-1990) : une voie vers la création". Paris 4, 1996. http://www.theses.fr/1996PA040021.
Texto completoOut of the XXth century complete topsy-turvy theatre came the strange "theatre of monologue" whose main purpose was to get to a "true creation". The construction of the play is unusual: it moves off the classical way and turns to "tableaux" or "montages". The dramatist chooses a vague, nebulous and indefinable space and time setting to introduce an "anti-hero"- a mentally tortured, greatly distressed man who is actually an ego, the universal ego. The use of spoken language lays stress on the gloomy side of the nowadays man in a violent frenetical and coarse way. The monologue is in fact a rare speech drawn out the silence and the frenetical body movements show evidence of the anguish, oppression and torpor hidden behind that silence. So the theater of monologue may be regarded as an impossible search for a pure theatre. No art can exist without any strong desire for dream and without a frantic urge to create

Texto completoThe translation and reception of French monographs of comparative literature in China has been going on for a hundred years, it is an important part of the study on the translation of Western literary theories. This thesis mainly sorts out and describes the history, status quo and characteristics of the translation and reception of French monographs of comparative literature in China, trying to find out how the philosophy, core concepts and research methods of French comparative literature fit into the Chinese context, how they participate in the discipline construction of Comparative Literature in China, how they contact and merge with pluralistic Chinese literary creations, and how they are enriched and perfected in a brand new literary field. The thesis consists of two parts, including six chapters, the introduction and the conclusion. The introduction part emphasizes that the current research lacks a comprehensive review and theoretical reflections on the translation process of French comparative literature monographs. In view of this, this thesis attempts to describe the basic trajectory, development and characteristics of the translation of French comparative literature monographs in China, highlight the initiative and creativity of Chinese scholars in the process of translation and reception, show the dual value of theoretical travel to the recipients and the theory itself. The first part of the thesis consists of Chapter One, Chapter Two and Chapter Three, which correspond respectively to the first, second and third phase of the history of translation. Based on Edward Said’s “theoretical travel” and Anthony Pym’s method to construct the history of translation, the first part shows the context faced by the translation of French comparative literature monographs in different periods. The second part is composed of Chapter Four, Chapter Five and Chapter Six. Chapter Four focuses on the overall understanding and acceptance of French comparative literature in China, discusses the connotation of the term “French School”, the image and role of French comparative literature scholars, shows Chinese scholars’ identification for the main values of French comparative literature and the interpretation of the core concepts. To conclude, this thesis helps to reveal the important role of translation activities in the development, construction and reinterpretation of national literature, and shows the multiple appearances and possibilities of the same theory in the different cultural spaces and historical contexts. Among them, the translation and publication of related research by Chinesecomparative literature scholars in the French context constitutes the true dialogue and mutual learning. This thesis provides a reference for the mutual translation and learning of Chinese and French literature in the future

Texto completoThis work aims to help understand the importance of bibliophilia within literary creation between 1830 and 1920. From the publicising of the bibliophile to the publishing of poetry, to study bibliophilic literary practices is to shed light on both the writing process and the resulting production of books whose materiality is meaningful. A first part studies the beginnings of a bibliophilic literary practice and its figures, such as Charles Nodier or Bibliophile Jacob, to highlight the evolution of bibliophilia from a mere collection among others to an original writing process. Torn between social experience and lyricism of the object, bibliophilia progressively defines itself in response to its own caricature. A second part considers bibliophilia as a literary and mythical source: bringing real and imaginary libraries together, bibliophilia deeply changes the relationship to the materiality of books amongst writers such as Marcel Schwob, Remy de Gourmont or Alfred Jarry. A third part takes a closer look at the book as an object and at the conditions of its production and reception. From Mallarmé and Charles Cros' experiences to those of Apollinaire and Blaise Cendars, it appears that a new type of literature needs a new type of book, the combined result of (typo)graphic experimentation and bibliophilic tradition
Wang, Jiaqi. "Du chaos au chaosmos : pour une approche de la création littéraire et picturale d’Henri Michaux". Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017USPCA069.
Texto completoThis study consists in creating an original portrait of “Michaux described as unclassifiable”, by using two particular figures: “chaos” and “chaosmos”, applied for the first time to criticism on the whole of the literary and pictorial creation of Michaux. The term “chaosmos”, a Joycian oxymoronic neologism, taken up by critics and philosophers of the twentieth century, from Umberto Eco to Philip Kuberski, from Gilles Deleuze to Félix Guattari in a wider context of scientific and social life, refers, in essence, to a relation of “osmosis” between “chaos” and “cosmos”, a form of internal continuity between order and disorder, which give rises to a paradoxical, composed cosmos. This notion will make it possible to rebalance the overall vision of the work of Michaux, by making communication between the part that belongs to chaos, to the trouble side and the part of order, on the eastern side. In effect, Michaux constantly oscillates between these two opposite but complementary directions: On the one hand, he maintains an open relationship with chaos which becomes a factor of creation; on the other hand, from this dive into chaos, he strives to maintain an equilibrium, to acquire unity and consistency without losing anything from the infinite. This is how chaosmos takes shape in secret, appears implicitly and works discreetly in Michaux’s creation: it expresses the opening of a Whole and integrates heterogeneous movements within it; it seems sufficiently finite at every moment but capable of complementing itself to infinity; ultimately, it frees itself from any spatio-temporal reference and in this sense gains access to transcendence

Texto completoThe thesis aims at analyzing what is at stake in the writing practice and in the writer's destiny in the contemporary literary field. Writing is apprehended under its two complementary aspects : first, as the intersubjective experience of a creative subject; then, as the product of a social system that can promote the practice itself and acknowledge the writer. The thesis is built into two parts. The first volume sets the framewok of the research and retrospectively surveys the decisive moments in the history of the book and of the writer. A description of the contemporary literary field, of its rules and of the role of its many actors is completed by a sociological portrait of the writers who compose it. This portrait was elaborated with the help of the data of a questionnaire filled in by the writers themselves. The second volume analyzes the writing practice, its meaning, its form - material as well as symbolic - from the contents of a series of thorough discussions with recognized and prospective writers. The conditions required to become a writer- that is to say the stage leading to the publication of the text - constitute the last part of the research. This comparative approach of the two populations of writers enables us to boing to light the obvious and unconscious functioning rules of both the literary interaction and production
Canu, Emile. "La création collective de l'oeuvre romanesque sous la monarchie de Juillet". Rouen, 1995. http://www.theses.fr/1995ROUEL220.
Texto completoAs a rule, romantic creation is regarded as the final result of a personal and solitary action which is based on the use of the intimate aspects of the author's personality. Not a single novel, written under joint authorship, and claimed as such by the authors, was recorded before the 19th c. However, since the 1820s, the number of works written under joint authorship has been surprisingly high, and among them, many novels whose author's names have been famous ever since, such as G. Sand, J. Sandeau, A. Dumas, H. Monnier, A. Houssaye, Th. Gautier, Mme de Girardin, Mery, Ph. Chasles or Balzac. After grasping the notion of "literary joint autorship", many questions arise : what does this practise infer ? What can be done to understand, analyse and explain it ? Is it based on social, political, economical, cultural or artistic grounds ? Does romance express individualism, or has it on the contrary, at some point of its evolution, chosen to be written by two or more people ? This intellectual process lead to the following points of research : describing the increase of literary works written under joint authorship during the july monarchy ; studying how groups were formed ; analysing the methods of creation in joint authorship (the different steps that have been taken, the novelist's behaviour in the group) ; looking for the meaning and the use of joint authorship ; and finding out the consequences on the author's literary career. The novel written under joint authorship reflects its period and shows the novelist'attempts to give a satisfactory answer to the economical and cultural major changes of their time. Under the pretense of literary friendship, relationships tangle up. The novel written under joint authorship gives to a generation of young authors a working scheme close to the new models of handicrafts and of the artistic creation between 1830 and 1850

Aidara, Aminata. ""Exister à bout de plume". Un recueil de nouvelles migrantes au prisme de l'anthropologie littéraire". Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016USPCA070.
Texto completoThis research focuses on young people of immigrant background with the aim of investigating the distinctive manner in which this community relates to literature as a means of expression. The hypothesis we explore is that these young people, whose life tends to be especially permeated by history and contemporary global issues, may find in literature a third space of cultural expression, alongside family and society. As the various images arising from a collection of short stories created especially for this dissertation - Exister à bout de plume. Nouvelles migrantes – succeed one another, it emerges that fictional and autobiographical writing enables those who resort to it as a means of expression to find their own voice and gain deeper self-awareness. The first part of the dissertation is dedicated to field research, while the second part provides analyses of the short stories and the interviews of the authors. The analyses reveal how important it is to make visible the problems, struggles, feelings, hopes and claims of young people of immigrant background, especially in times in which the bitter fruits of the assimilationist model and the social fractures this model was unable to prevent become more and more apparent. The young amateur writers reclaim their cultural background and their appearance emphasising themes such as the search for personal identity, the obstacles and ambitions characterising their first steps into society, the search for legitimacy and the desire to narrate, more or less explicitly, the personal trajectories of their parents. The engagement of this community with the literary means appears to be motivated by the desire to reclaim themes that tend to be considered exclusive purview of dominant literary voices. The literary means seems to allow the authors to escape the role of mere object of sociological and anthropological investigation and become Subjects narrating themselves from their own point of view

Texto completoThis work studies the esthetical repercussions of the wagnerian revolution in France since 1883, especially the theories elaborated around or inside the Wagnerian Review under the impulsion of Dujardin and Chamberlain to explicit and impose the esthetical reflection of Wagner, considered as the paragon of modernity, but also the authentical creations in the fields of music and litterature. Corresponding to the meditation of Mallarmé and the theorisation of Ghil, one finds works trying to solve the conflict issued from the romanticism between music and poetry by bringing sensation to the one and sense to the other ; Chabrier, d'Indy, Chausson and Debussy change the concept of the opera in France by privileging the musical drama, while Bourges, Dujardin, and Péladan renew the litterary forms by adapting the wagnerian principles until in 1889 the wagnerism leaves the spheres of experimentation and intellectual reflexion to become a social occurrence

Texto completoThe aim of this thesis is to show that Lucan is an essential reference and he reveals the baroque age. As for the reception, the erudite editions are more and more numerous, the commentaries are plentiful in order to develop the encyclopedic aspects in the pharsalia or to consider the latin poet as an historian and as a defender of the liberties at a time in which it seems that the civil roman wars come back. Moreover, there is a debate about the style caracterized by the enargeia, which had begun with Quintilian. On the other hand, in the creation, the influence of Lucan is very important. With the centon, the ode (j. Dorat), the sonnet (du Bellay), the novel (urbain chevreau), and above all the tragedy (r. Garnier, p. Corneille), the pharsalia is the object of generic alterations which is made possible by the irregularity of the antic epic. Only les tragiques of Agrippa d'aubigne, the translation and, to a smaller extent, the parody of brebeuf mitate Lucan while remaining faithful to the epic genre

Texto completoThis research project aims to analyse the links between drama critique and political commitment, manifest in a number of reviews from the mid-1960s to the early 1980s. This investigation focuses on a corpus of articles published in Les Temps Modernes, Esprit and La Quinzaine Littéraire, most often signed by, respectively, Renée Saurel, AlfredSimon, and Gilles Sandier. This critique’s politicisation is most evident in four main areas, namely: its conception of the social function of theatre; in the selected criteria used to analyse performances; in its active involvment in the artistic and intellectual debates of the time; as well as in the very act of critical writing. The particular form of theatre critique emerging from these reviews tends to differ both from the journalistic column and from the scholarly commentary. These reviews’ publishing frequency allows this form of critique toremain topical in regards to contemporary french (and particularly public parisian) theatre; however, these texts also seek to break away from the traditional model of the theatre review and its impressionist mode. This critical movement attempts to explicate its criteria of appraisal by basing itself on the theoretical issues raised by Marxism, brechtism and/or structuralism. In so doing, it opens up its focus to include new controversial areas, such as debates on cultural policies. Despite aknowledging some form of autonomy to aesthetic issues, this critique analyses writing and mise-En-Scène through the lens of political efficiency, as a means to develop a genuine popular theatre. These reviews, considered here both as materialised spaces for intellectual debate and as objects of symbolic authority, become fertile loci in which to foster a new form of critique aiming to combine the development of theoretical frameworks with political commitment

Starting with the analysis of the legitimation and consecration’s process that rules, from the XX century’s second half, literary camp’s mediatization, we propose to study consequent peri-phenomenon, as well as the possible co-relation between this circumstance and the creation itself. Our study is focused on the production of three paradigmatic French expression contemporaneous writers from Europe, whose mediatization follows the popularity: the French Michel Houellebecq, the Belgium Amélie Nothomb and the Romand Swizz Jacques Chessex. We question the possible relations between this mediatization instruments and the effects on these three authors writing options. Attentive to the tranfrontier projection of writers and writings, a convergence’s result of certain mediatization factors, but also to the particularities of the cultural and literary memory where the respective literatures inscribe themselves (in a progressive legitimation process from the peripheral literatures face to the Franco-French centrality), our reflection also tends to contribute to a recontextualisation of the French literary canon in the contemporaneous mediatic society’s context with which the writers in question are engaged.

Texto completoNicolas of Verona was a 14th Century Franco-Italian poet, courtier to Nicolas Ist of Estonia, to whom, in 1343, he dedicated one of his works. He wrote 3 epic poems identical in their metrical form but each of profoundly different inspiration: La Pharsale (3166 verses) speaks of the military war between Caesar and Pompey of Thessaly for the control of Rome, la Prise de Pampelune, or Continuation de l’Entrée d’Espagne (6116 verses) is an account which relates to the traditional adventures of Roland and of Charlemagne of Spain prior to the defeat at Roncesvalles and the Passion (994 verses) narrates the last days of Christ. These 3 chansons de geste were written in Franco-Italian, a purely hybrid literary language which was probably never spoken but which enabled Italian authors to adapt la geste and French heroes for a already pre-humanist North Italian aristocratic and bourgeois audience. Each draws its content from clearly identifiable sources: The Fet des Romains, a French compilation of 12th Century ancient history, l’Entrée d’Espagne a Carolingian epic about an anonymous man from Padua, The Chronicles of Turpin and The Gospels to which it would be proper to add certain apocryphal captions commonly used in the middle ages. The set of themes are classical and the military struggle plays an important role but the setting of the adventures which are told is particularly innovative in that it only keeps a minimal and purely ornamental role for the supernatural elements of traditional epic: The divine is reduced to insubstantiality and God is a hidden God.This stems from the fact that the spirit of the chanson de geste was re-interpreted insofar as was possible in the pre-humanist conception. Henceforth the epic hero had similarities to storybook characters and the psychological depth he acquired conferred him a new status that of a man placed in the centre of the world. The political project of Nicolas of Verona was of an astonishing modernity and advocated a true democracy in the image of the freedom of the Roman Republic. The moral sense of the work reserves a central role for caution by making it the foundation of every fair and just action. The philosophical sense of the text is in itself totally original: the author reconciles classical Christian virtues and neo-stoic wisdom. Thus, humility becomes ascesism and the heroic death of the martyr for his faith is allied to that of an ancient sage. The demand for restraint and the determination to be surprised by nothing (nihil mirari), far from the epic fortitudo, as well as the respect for the nature of man appear as new imperatives. Nicolas of Verona doesn’t deny the difficulty of such an ideal and sets it along side that of the absolute virtue of the sage for purely human domestic wisdom and a parenetic. The moral is of the essence

Yuan, Yuan. "Réception et création : les littératures féminines française et chinoise au XXe siècle". Besançon, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010BESA1015.
Texto completoThis study aims at probing, measuring and describing the relationship between the Chinese and French female literature of the twentieth century. It concentrates particularly on the most representative female writers from both countries and their works that reflect female consciousness. The Chinese female writing in the 1920s-1940s shows strong feminist thought, similar to French female writing of the period. However, there was no direct communication between these two female literatures and the influence of French literature on the first generation of contemporary Chinese female writers came from males writers. The French feminist literary theory formed during the 1970s has become the theoretical pivot and practical model for the Chinese female writing in the 1990s, yet continually influenced by Chinese female writing in the 1920s-1940s. The use of the comparative method helps to show that Chinese contemporary female literature is “the fruit” of the combination of the development of Chinese female literature herself, the influences of western feminist theories and western literature, especially French literature

Texto completoThe reflection undertaken in the thesis offers an archaeology of the collective representations relating to the writer’s domestic space and work, by means of a socio-criticism of the texts in which they materialise. From the notion of “house-museum”, the writer’s house-museum is considered a real place, as well as a mental and material structure where « images of the writer » are invented, organised and displayed. Albeit varied, even heterogonous, these images define a coherent imagination and imagery of the writer’s figure. In the thesis, the discursive dimension of the writing place′s “paratopia” is put into perspective with scenographic and postural approaches that are centred on the figure of the writer. To that end, the study predicates that the arrangement of objects in house-museums is based on these ‘‘sceno-mythographies,’’ which are then transposed into the museum space thanks to various display devices. Right from the start, the thesis shows that the writer’s stagings perpetually constitute an essential lever of the writers’ collective memorial appropriations and their works because they crystallise successful mythical representations, which are actualized in the spirit of the age. More broadly, they take part in writing the literary history that is institutionalised in the 19th century: they put the emphasis on certain writers, on a mythology of the literary creation, and on works that came to life in “high literary places.” Finally, the thesis tackles the issues of poetics and reception that link the writers’ houses to their literary work

Texto completoCommonplace within the historiography of this artistic and literary movement. By moving the chronological cursor towards the 1789-1830 period, that is between the end of Ancien Régime anglomania and the accepted date of the romantic triumph in France, this dissertation deals with the conditions of appearance of hundreds of artworks borrowing their subjects from within a corpus of more than forty British authors, from Macpherson and Smith - who unveiled Ossian’s poems to Europe - toLord Byron, Sir Walter Scott and William Shakespeare. Many of these works of art could have been localised, or are known through various testimonies, and their study allows us to observe the heterogeneousness of the relevant artists’ profiles, trainings and motivations. By applying an analytical pattern designed to use tools forged by reception studies, translation theory and comparative literature, it is possible to determine that the reception of literary texts in the visual arts proceeds through four phases :diffusion, adaptation, appropriation and repercussion. Placing this artistic production within the sociocultural and economical context of its time reveals a less idealized image of some «gothic» romanticism, the deep complexity of the contemporary French artistic scene which sees the birth of bothromantic imagination and imaginary romanticism

Texto completoAppropriating literary works for year 11 / 10th grade french students Here, appropriation metaphorically refers to the process by which readers make a literary work their own. The expression also refers to the result of this process: the inscription and expansion of the work within each individual memory. The active participation of each reader is required throughout the hermeneutical process, from the open mindset needed to absorb a new reading until the point when it becomes registered in one’s “interior library”. Appropriation can be regarded as the final step of the reading process and the vanishing point of any analysis on the way literature is perceived and received. Personal appropriation of literary works by students is at the backdrop of any curriculum for teaching French and all research in didactics of literature. Maybe it should be granted more emphasis than it is in the French school system today, particularly in year 11 / 10th grade. This is my thesis statement, in the light of modern research on the reader as a subject. I shall first consider the notion of appropriation from the point of view of modern hermeneutics and reception theories, in compliance with the French official educational standards, and define the discursive spaces where appropriation of literary works occurs. I shall then analyze the findings of an exploratory research carried out in a number of year 11 / 10th grade classes: students were submitted to five successive experiments which placed them in the position of subject readers, within the story of a specific and individual relationship to literature. The findings are interpreted in two main axes. First, leaving room for a personal encounter between students and literary works during lessons permits to successfully address a number of current issues on the transmission of literature. Then, I consider several hypotheses concerning the appropriation process in class, more particularly, the link between subjective impressions, more objective readings and the acquisition of the expected academic standards, but also the acquisition of an ethical posture and the inscription of the works in students’ memories. I shall finally examine the pedagogical changes implied by such an approach in the management of class participation, of timing; in the positioning of the teacher and the learning strategies developed by students

Texto completoThe problematic of this thesis lies at the crossroads of postcolonialism and postmodernism. Investigating the poetics of six autobiographies unveils the literary strategies the writers deploy to accommodate into their writing both an experience of violence and resistance against it. An analysis of the thematics and textual functioning of the texts reveals how they transform, through textual violence, an identity inherited from colonial and patriarchal discourses in order to construct a new subjectivity that escapes existing power relations. This research, through its evaluation of the oppositional force of this intrinsically postmodern corpus, enacts a rapprochement between postcolonial and postmodern theories. The nomadic writers deterritorialise inherited ethnic and sexual identities, creating for themselves Deleuzian lines of flight towards a new conception of identity anchored in a community of origin and in female memory: the identity of a subject group, invested with becoming

Texto completoIn our introduction, we study the historical contacts and the system of intercultural exchanges between Egypt and France. Then we discribe the French-speaking circle and justify the choice of the French language in Egypt. In the first part, we give a summary of the French-speaking press in Egypt and the monograph of two Egyptian literary reviews : La Revue du Caire (1938-1961) and La Semaine Égyptienne (1926-1951). These publications are considered as diffusion canals of French literature in Egypt and an efficient means of cultural transfer. The second part, headed "The dialectic of the relation between the East and the West in the Egyptian novel at the beginning of the XXe century", is centered on the study of tension forces who accelerate the complex and evolving cultural interactions. To do so we analyse three novels : The recovered soul (1933) and The bird of the East (1938) of Tawfiq Al-Hakim and Adib (1935) of Taha Husayn. The conclusion emphasises the dialogue between the two cultures. A reciprocal appreciation and comprehension of the cultural values of the two countries are necessary to secure this dialogue

Texto completoThis research is centered on the idea and practice of a French intimist, cinematic modernity, of an autobiographical nature, inscribed in a cultural tradition where literature is essential in the path to creativity. This work proposes to evaluate the liberation or tension regarding the codes of representation of love at work in certain films, representative of the New Wave, that open an original path to modernity. In France, an entire philosophical and cinephilic movement is founded on the question of modernity: Gilles Deleuze, Alain Bergala, Jean-Louis Leutrat, Jacques Aumont. This study also takes into account the findings of T. Jefferson Kline and the work of Giorgio De Vincenti concerning film that treats literature as a material. Therefore, approaches sometimes considered opposite are presented here as complimentary, seeking to conjugate the aim of Anglo-Saxon and cultural studies (the analysis of the representation of women and the relationships between men and women) with the aesthetic in order to reveal a French characteristic in the modernity of the New Wave – that perhaps goes against the myth of a quasi-documentary « cinéma brut » of improvisation (close to Italian neorealism) – thus a French distinction by their attachment to (or the surpassing of) codes, motifs and topoï of love, to a rhetoric coming from a literary tradition belonging to the French cultural heritage, and by a more profound tendency of these directors to film the intimate, to film women and to film their lives, filtered and revealed by literary « screens »

Texto completoThis research has been done through a synchronic study of the literary life in 1869, through the perusal of Paris daily press as well as analysis of novels, plays and poems from that period. First and foremost, we tried to take stock of the literary production taking into account the historical, economic, scientific and artistic context of the time. Why chose 1869 ? Because this date is both a sign and an inevitable landmark. Just one year before the war broke out between France and Prussia and the third republic was proclaimed, 1869 was marked by the opening of the Suez canal, the centenary of Napoléon I But also by the results general election that revealed already the weakness of Napoleon III reign. From a literary viewpoint, 1869 is a transition year when Balzac's entire works were republished, the framework of the Rougon-Macquart cycle was set up and were published the Education sentimentale, l'Homme qui rit, Madame Gervaisais, Vingt mille lieues sous les mers or Les Chants de Maldoror

Texto completoHow did Xavier de Langlais participate in the life and survival of the Breton language during the 20th century? Breton personality, member of the Seiz Breur, he is a direct witness of the upheavals then affecting the Breton language and gradually leading to its decline. His artistic activity, such as his paintings, engravings, illustrations and even his frescoes have made him famous in Brittany and beyond. His work in the Breton language and in favour of it is less well known. This study attempts to understand the link he had with the Breton language and his activism in favour of it. He took it upon himself to learn the Breton language in a non-breton-speaking family background. He composed poems, novels, short stories, plays. He actively participated in the main literary journals of the time such as Gwalarn or Dihunamb. He took interest in the language of his environment in Vannes country by collecting songs, tales, phrases, proverbs in the field, in the region of Surzur. He fully embarked on a spelling reform which had become essential in his eyes so that the language could be taught in the school system and thus allow a transmission to future generations

Texto completoThe relationship between Zola and the visual arts has, of course, frequently held the attention of researchers. His friendship with artists, his relation to impressionism, his career as an art critic, the defence of painters of his time, the novel L’OEuvre and its character Claude Lantier have been the subject of numerous analyses. Yet, the role of art in all its aspects and in the global perspective of his complete work has not, so far, been considered. Despite the permanence of the artistic theme in his texts and the passion of the writer for images, no comprehensive study has been devoted to the visual arts in their relationship to the Zolian creation. To portray Zola as an artist – not only a painter but also a sculptor and an architect ‒, while also considering the entirety of his work – novels, short stories, plays, preparatory dossiers, critical writings, letters –, and using different methodological approaches – thematic, sociological, comparatist, aesthetic, genetic – in order to form picture library representative of the essential place of the visual arts in Zola’s oeuvre ‒ is the purpose of this work.We aim to understand the process of Zolian creation, which imitates the process of producing a work of art: to sketch, compose, and exhibit

Texto completoTo advance that the literary text has always played a part in the evolution of the practices of teaching/training of French as Foreign Language (FFL) is an obviousness. The place granted to it differs of course in time. However, it is at the moment when the handbooks were turning away from these texts that the didacticians, specialists in FFL, made use of the literature to work out new activities. The latter were to revolutionize the way of teaching and learning the matter. Worked out during the years of post-68, these activities modified the role of the teacher as well as the place of the learner in the class. Following the example of the literature which he taught hitherto, the first lost of its influence and turned into a benevolent instructor. As for the second, from then it became active and gained in autonomy. Released from the methods of the past, the two thorough parts with more personal investment were to also find more pleasure in their new roles. The literatures at the origin of this upheaval are known as «creative». Their modes of production rest either on techniques aiming at releasing the authors of the rules wedging their inventiveness or on constraints supporting the production of types based on prerequisites. It goes without saying that, applied to the FFL courses, the two ways of proceeding should lead learners in turn to produce texts known as «creative». The present research relates to the various literary techniques used and the exercises which they generated

Texto completoThe introduction defines the limits and openings of the subject, introduces the method of approach selected for the study of a "character" and justifies the overall content. The ain of the thesis is to assess sand's contribution to the work of rehabilitation of the 19th century artist, which stands half-way between conventionalism and originality in the pre- 1848 romantic, revolutionary and religious movement. Three main study lines allow the understanding of the artist in sand's novels: physiognomy : variety physiology : complexity philosophy : unity these three headings agree with lavater's theory, for whom man has an animal, moral and intellectual life, and they also coincide with the trinitarian thought favoured during the romantic era. They moreover illustrate sand's ideal of human fulfilment: the artist as a metaphor of beauty : physiognomy the artist as a metaphor of gift : physiology the artist as a metaphor of christ : philosophy the artist's rehabilitation stems from the image given by the novelist who creates it with a triple effect : one of exception, one of reality, and one of exemplarity. The first part of the study lists what sets artists apart and what also magnifies them
