Resumen
The mathematical formulation of the problem of determining the coordinates of targets in the network of counter-battery radars is formulated. It has been established that the problem of estimating the coordinates of targets in the network of counter-battery radars for an excessive number of estimates of primary coordinates should be considered as a statistical problem. The method for determining the coordinates of the firing positions of roving mortars has been improved, in which, in contrast to the known ones, the coordinates of targets on the flight trajectory are coordinated with space and time and the information is processed by a network of counter-battery radars. The developed simulation mathematical model for determining the coordinates of the firing positions of roving mortars by a network of counter-battery radars. Simulation modeling of the method for determining the coordinates of the firing positions of roving mortars by a network of counter-battery radars has been carried out. It has been established that the use of a network of radars makes it possible to increase the accuracy of determining the coordinates of the firing means on average from 23 % to 71 %, depending on the number of counter-battery radars in the network. It has also been found that the appropriate number of counter-battery warfare radars in the network is three or four. A further increase in the number of counter-battery warfare radars in the network does not lead to a significant increase in the accuracy of determining the coordinates of artillery and mortar firing positions. In carrying out further research, it is necessary to develop a method for the spatial separation of elements of a group of targets and interfering objects by a network of counter-battery warfare radars

Resumen
Fighting in the Donbas, which has been going on for more than five years, shows that a skillful counter-battery fight is an important factor in achieving success in wars of this kind. Especially in conditions where for the known reasons the use of combat aviation is minimized. With the development of technical warfare, the task of servicing the counter-battery fight began to rely on radar stations (radar) to reconnaissance the positions of artillery, which in modern terms are called counter-battery radar. The principle of counter-battery radar is based on the detection of a target (artillery shell, mortar mine or rocket) in flight at an earlier stage and making several measurements of the coordinates of the current position of the ammunition. According to these data, the trajectory of the projectile's flight is calculated and, on the basis of its prolongation and extrapolation of measurements, the probable coordinates of the artillery, as well as the places of ammunition falling, are determined. In addition, the technical capabilities of radars of this class allow you to recognize the types and caliber of artillery systems, as well as to adjust the fire of your artillery. The main advantages of these radars are:  mobility (transportability);  inspection of large tracts of terrain over long distances;  the ability to obtain target's data in near real-time;  independence from time of day and weather conditions;  relatively high fighting efficiency. The purpose of the article is to determine the leading role and place of the counter-battery radar among other artillery instrumental reconnaissance tools, to compare the combat capabilities of modern counter-battery radars, armed with Ukrainian troops and some leading countries (USA, China, Russia), and are being developed and tested in Ukraine. The method of achieving this goal is a comparative analysis of the features of construction and combat capabilities of modern models of counter-battery radar in Ukraine and in other countries. As a result of the conducted analysis, the directions of further improvement of the radar armament, increasing the capabilities of existing and promising counter-battery radar samples were determined.

Resumen
The prediction of remaining useful life is an important function of battery management systems. Existing research typically focused on factors that determine the quantity of the remaining useful capacity, and are able to determine the remaining useful capacity several years before battery failure to counter hysteresis of variables of lead–acid batteries. These techniques are not suitable at the end of service-life for backup batteries. This paper proposes a linear-superposition–voltage-aging model with three improvements. First, the estimation of the deep-discharge of the proposed voltage model does not require the remaining useful capacity. Second, the internal resistance of the deep-discharge is predicted from the contacting resistance of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Third, a morphology correction factor of internal resistance is about to saturate at the end of battery service-life. The model accurately forecasts battery failure at the end of service-life in two groups of accelerated-aging experiments. The proposed method in this paper focuses on the factors that determine quality of remaining useful capacity to counter hysteresis of variables of lead–acid batteries and judge battery failure at the end of service-life.

Resumen
This paper focuses on the fast characterization of automotive second life lithium-ion batteries that have been recently re-used in many projects to create battery storages for stationary applications and sporadically for embedded applications. Specific criteria dedicated to the second life are first discussed. After a short review of the available state of health indicators and their associated determination techniques, some electrical characterization tests are explored through an experimental campaign. This offline identification aims to estimate the remaining ability of the battery to store energy. Twenty-four modules from six different commercial electric vehicles are analyzed. Well-known methodologies like incremental capacity analysis (ICA) and constant voltage phase analysis during CC-CV charge highlight the difficulty—and sometimes the impossibility—to apply traditional tools on a battery pack or on individual modules, in the context of real second life applications. Indeed, the diversity of the available second life batteries induces a combination of aging mechanisms that leads to a complete heterogeneity from a cell to another. Moreover, due to the unknown first life of the battery, typical state of health determination methodologies are difficult to use. A new generic technique based on a partial coulometric counter is proposed and compared to other techniques. In the present case study, the partial coulometric counter allows a fast determination of the capacity aging. In conclusion, future improvements and working tracks are addressed.

An airport X-ray Screener Test Battery was developed to better understand how selected aspects of screeners' visual and perceptual capabilities, attentional and verbal processing, work schedule, medication use, work history, training, equipment knowledge, personal style, attitudinal characteristics, and job satisfaction are related to job performance. The Test Battery was administered to 92 X-ray screeners and analyses compared Test Battery performance with X-ray screening job performance. Analyses suggest that important factors related to X-ray screening performance include several aspects of perceptual and attentional processing; screeners' time on the job; screeners' work schedules; and their use of pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter drugs, and dietary supplements. Potential applications of the findings for improving screener performance through personnel selection, training, workforce management, and X-ray equipment design enhancements are discussed. Ongoing research is also outlined.

This project is to investigate the counter electrode material from two different carbon sources to fabricate dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC). The carbon sources are extracted from battery and pencil lead. The method to prepare the DSSC is through the conventional Dr.Blading method. The same method is also used for the counter electrode which uses carbon from recycle batteries, the carbon from pencil lead are scribbled onto the ITO glass to get a uniform coating. Both thickness of the counter electrode vary accordingly. The solar cells are then placed under outdoor solar irradiation and the output is taken every 10 minutes. Based on observation, the solar cells which have the carbon from batteries shows higher cell efficiency which is 8.2 % with lower FF of 0.78, compared to by using the pencil lead, the cell efficiency is only 7.23% but with a higher FF of 0.93.

Studies on Canadian Army military intelligence remain sparse in Canadian military historiography. This study is unique in that it focuses on the development, doctrine, and influence of intelligence within the I Canadian Corps throughout the Liri Valley battles during the Italian Campaign. It will be argued that I Canadian Corps intelligence achieved notable overall success in helping to break the Hitler Line by providing comprehensive and relatively up-to-date information on enemy dispositions and strengths which helped commanders and staff planners properly prepare for the operation. This success was attributable to three main factors: excellent intelligence personnel selection and training; the successful mentorship of I Canadian Corps intelligence by Eighth Army's intelligence cadre; and the overall effectiveness of 1st Canadian Infantry Division's intelligence organization which had been in the Mediterranean theatre since July 1943. Notwithstanding these successes, a number of faults within the Canadian Corps intelligence system must also be explained, including the poor performance of 5th Canadian Armoured Division's intelligence organization during the pursuit up the Liri–Sacco Valleys, and the mediocre execution of Corps counter-battery and counter-mortar operations. This study will demonstrate how an effective intelligence organization must augment existing army doctrine and how it can mitigate, though not completely eliminate, battlefield uncertainty. Further, it will also demonstrate that a comprehensive lessons-learned process must be undertaken to continually refine existing intelligence doctrine and procedures, with frequent training programs inculcating personnel in this doctrine. Taken as a whole, this study is unique as it is one of only several studies devoted solely to developing a greater understanding of a little-understood, and often forgotten, staff function within the Canadian Army during the Second World War.

Rukpakavong, Wilawan. "Energy-efficient and lifetime aware routing in WSNs". Thesis, Loughborough University, 2014. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/14497.

Resumen
Network lifetime is an important performance metric in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Transmission Power Control (TPC) is a well-established method to minimise energy consumption in transmission in order to extend node lifetime and, consequently, lead to solutions that help extend network lifetime. The accurate lifetime estimation of sensor nodes is useful for routing to make more energy-efficient decisions and prolong lifetime. This research proposes an Energy-Efficient TPC (EETPC) mechanism using the measured Received Signal Strength (RSS) to calculate the ideal transmission power. This includes the investigation of the impact factors on RSS, such as distance, height above ground, multipath environment, the capability of node, noise and interference, and temperature. Furthermore, a Dynamic Node Lifetime Estimation (DNLE) technique for WSNs is also presented, including the impact factors on node lifetime, such as battery type, model, brand, self-discharge, discharge rate, age, charge cycles, and temperature. In addition, an Energy-Efficient and Lifetime Aware Routing (EELAR) algorithm is designed and developed for prolonging network lifetime in multihop WSNs. The proposed routing algorithm includes transmission power and lifetime metrics for path selection in addition to the Expected Transmission Count (ETX) metric. Both simulation and real hardware testbed experiments are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed schemes. The simulation experiments run on the AVRORA simulator for two hardware platforms: Mica2 and MicaZ. The testbed experiments run on two real hardware platforms: the N740 NanoSensor and Mica2. The corresponding implementations are on two operating systems: Contiki and TinyOS. The proposed TPC mechanism covers those investigated factors and gives an overall performance better than the existing techniques, i.e. it gives lower packet loss and power consumption rates, while delays do not significantly increase. It can be applied for single-hop with multihoming and multihop networks. Using the DNLE technique, node lifetime can be predicted more accurately, which can be applied for both static and dynamic loads. EELAR gives the best performance on packet loss rate, average node lifetime and network lifetime compared to the other algorithms and no significant difference is found between each algorithm with the packet delay.

Abstract The purposes of this study were to examine how battered women in Nantou County perceive the needs and satisfaction of protective services and the related factors. Data were obtained from face-to-face administered self-reported questionnaires completed by a clinical sample of 121 battered women in Nantou County. Research results included three major findings. First, the battered women had more needs and assistances of protective services in external system and macro-system levels. Particularly, they needed more services of changing everyone’s attitude to domestic violence, police rescue, medical care and protective laws. They were also assisted in those services they needed. In terms of satisfaction, participants were satisfied with social worker’s attitude, values and escort services. Regarding all protective services, roughly 1/3 of participants answered “satisfied,” “somewhat satisfied,” and “not satisfied,” respectively. Second, women who needed more formal resources were more assisted by the protective services, including police rescue, medical care, protective laws, and social worker’s assistances. Besides, the more they were assisted, the more they were satisfied with the protective services. Third, women who experienced more severe violence showed more needs of protective services. In addition, women who had better informal social support were more assisted by the protective services, which manifest the importance of social support. Key words: battered women, protective service, needs, assistance, satisfaction.

Resumen
Excessive unobserved firepower expenditures by Allied forces during the Vietnam War defied the traditional counterinsurgency principle that population protection should be valued more than destruction of the enemy. Many historians have pointed to this discontinuity in their arguments, but none have examined the available firepower records in detail. This study compiles and analyzes available, artillery-related U.S. and Allied archival records to test historical assertions about the balance between conventional and counterinsurgent military strategy as it changed over time. It finds that, between 1965 and 1970, the commanders of the U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV), Generals William Westmoreland and Creighton Abrams, shared significant continuity of strategic and tactical thought. Both commanders tolerated U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and Allied unobserved firepower at levels inappropriate for counterinsurgency and both reduced Army harassment and interdiction fire (H&I) as a response to increasing budgetary pressure. Before 1968, the Army expended nearly 40 percent of artillery ammunition as H&I – a form of unobserved fire that sought merely to hinder enemy movement and to lower enemy morale, rather than to inflict any appreciable enemy casualties. To save money, Westmoreland reduced H&I, or “interdiction” after a semantic name change in February 1968, to just over 29 percent of ammunition expended in July 1968, the first full month of Abrams’ command. Abrams likewise pursued dollar savings with his “Five-by-Five Plan” of August 1968 that reduced Army artillery interdiction expenditures to nearly ten percent of ammunition by January 1969. Yet Abrams allowed Army interdiction to stabilize near this level until early 1970, when recurring financial pressure prompted him to virtually eliminate the practice. Meanwhile, Marines fired H&I at historically high rates into the final months of 1970 and Australian “Harassing Fire” surpassed Army and Marine Corps totals during the same period. South Vietnamese artillery also fired high rates of H&I, but Filipino and Thai artillery eschewed H&I in quiet areas of operation and Republic of Korea [ROK] forces abandoned H&I in late 1968 as a direct response to MACV’s budgetary pressure. Financial pressure, rather than strategic change, drove MACV’s unobserved firepower reductions during the Vietnam War.

Resumen
This chapter examines the publication of images depicting violence against people engaged in acts of nonviolent resistance, suggesting that these acts are deliberately choreographed dramatizations of racial injustice. It links the overarching goals of the civil rights movement to the enduring struggle for black humanity in America by focusing on the violence encountered during nonviolent actions and the aesthetics of their visual documentation through photography and documentary footage. The chapter highlights the strategy of nonviolent direct action that was taken up during the freedom rides, lunch-counter integrations, and marches of the 1960s as stark illustrations of the infringements upon black humanity and freedom of expression endured and indeed endorsed in the southern United States.

Resumen
The Indian Army was not very successful in Gallipoli and Salonika. In the Gallipoli Campaign, the Ottoman infantry made the same mistake that the British and French infantry committed in the Western Front: launching mass infantry charges against entrenched enemy positions defended by barbed wire and machine guns. This probably saved the Allied bridgeheads. The Allied infantry assault at Gallipoli faced the same problem that the Allied infantry encountered in the Western Front till 1916: the inability of the artillery to support the advancing assaulting infantry as it neared the hostile defensive positions. The Gurkhas displayed their expertise in mountain warfare, but in general Indian infantry failed to develop flexible infantry–artillery coordination in a mobile battle. At Gallipoli, Indian artillery also learnt the techniques of indirect fire, counter battery bombardment, harassing fire, and so on.

Efforts to mitigate air pollution and noise are a complex endeavour as they involve addressing their sources, which vary depending on the country and region of the world and complex economic and geopolitical considerations. Measures such as mandatory or voluntary greenhouse emissions or fuel efficiency standards, shifting to lower-carbon fuels, legislating the use of motorized vehicles/kilometres driven, introduction of electric mass transit, congestion pricing/taxes, vehicle and fuel taxes, and advanced vehicle technologies (e.g. battery electric cars, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fuel cell cars) may help simultaneously alleviate air and noise pollution and climate change goals.

Resumen
This chapter traces the breakdown of the medieval vocabulary of justification that was characterized by certain knowledge on one hand (scientia) and probable belief on the other (opinio). Terms associated with scientia such as “certainty” and “demonstration” came under intense attack by nominalists such as William of Ockham in the fourteenth century, and these nominalist suspicions were reinforced by the discovery and dissemination of ancient skeptical writings a century later. Whereas terms associated with opinio such as “probability” and “authority” were battered by the forces of the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation. In the place of a shared language of cognitive appraisal, Europeans encountered multiple and contending methods of justification.

Resumen
Hybrid car sales in Ecuador in the last 10 years are very promising. The presence of hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) in the country generates an increase in nickel metal hydride batteries used (NiHm), these batteries do not follow an adequate recycling and disposal process. Several studies show that these batteries have energy levels and that they can be reused in other applications outside of the car as a power supply. This option of using recovered batteries is known as the second life of the battery (SLB). The reuse of batteries generates options to supply power on a large scale and with this reduce the pollution that these batteries can generate, especially in our country that does not have an optimal recycling process. This chapter presents the design of a methodology for the implementation of second life in Ecuador considering the use of NiHm batteries in HEV. For the design of the methodology, two possible scenarios for its implementation are analyzed. Scenario 1 is the use of NiHm batteries to supply energy to laboratories of a University in the city of Cuenca and scenario 2 shows the use of NiHm batteries as an additional energy source at the Airport of Santa Cruz present in the Galapagos Islands.

Resumen
This chapter investigates the vexed question of the ‘Condition of England’ via an examination of ‘England’ as an entity in the period's poetry, its non-fiction topographical and nature writing, and lastly in that most Edwardian of literary forms, the country-house novel. It first traces the contested notions of England and Englishness that appeared in Edwardian verse. While the characteristic mode of the era's poetry is pastoral and nostalgic, writers such as Kipling defined a model of England that might provide a rallying cry to stimulate the defence of a battered and vulnerable post-war nation. The chapter then explores the ways in which topographical writers repackaged England for a largely armchair urban audience. Finally, the chapter examines one of those key classes of Englishness: the country house, which was used to explore the question of England's inheritance.

There are many steps involved with securing a cloud system and its applications (SaaS) and developed ones in (PaaS). Security and privacy issues represent the biggest concerns to moving services to external clouds (Public). With cloud computing, data are stored and delivered across the Internet. The owner of the data does not have control or even know where their data are being stored. Additionally, in a multi-tenant environment, it may be very difficult for a cloud service provider to provide the level of isolation and associated guarantees that are possible with an environment dedicated to a single customer. Unfortunately, to develop a security algorithm that outlines and maps out the enforcement of a security policy and procedure can be a daunting task. A good security algorithm presents a strategy to counter the vulnerabilities in a cloud system. This chapter covers the complete overview, comparative analysis of security methods in Cloud Applications in STEM Education and the introduction of a new methodology that will enforce cloud computing security against breaches and intrusions. Much light will be shed on existing methodologies of security on servers used for cloud applications in STEM education and storage of data, and several methods will be presented in addition to the newly developed method of security in cloud-based servers, such as the MIST (Alkadi). Not only can cloud networks be used to gather sensitive information on multiple platforms, also there are needs to prevent common attacks through weak password recovery, retrieval, authentication, and hardening systems; otherwise hackers will spread cyber mayhem. Discussion of current security issues and algorithms in a real world will be presented. Different technologies are being created and in constant competition to meet the demands of users who are generally “busy”. The selling point of these technologies is the ability to address these demands without adding more to any workloads. One of the demands often discussed is that users want to have their digital information accessible from anywhere at any time. This information includes documents, audio libraries, and more. Users also demand the ability to manage, edit and update this information regardless of physical location. Somewhat recently, mobile devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones have provided these abilities. This is no small feat as vendors and providers have reduced the size of these devices to increase mobility. However, as the amount of personal information that users are wanting to access has grown exponentially, manipulation and storage of it require more capable devices. To meet increased demands, increasing the capabilities of mobile devices may be impractical. Making mobile devices more powerful without technological advancement would require that the device be larger and use more resources such as battery life and processing power to function properly. Storing all of a user's information on a mobile device that travels everywhere also adds vulnerability risks. The best technical solution to having a user's information accessible is some sort of online storage where there is the convenience to store, manipulate and retrieve data. This is one of the most practical applications for the concept of cloud computing in STEM education. As storage capabilities and Internet bandwidth has increased, so has the amount of personal data that users store online. And today, the average user has billions of bytes of data online. Access is everywhere and whenever is needed. As everyone started doing so, people want their data safe and secure to maintain their privacy. As the user base grew in size, the number of security issues of the personal data started to become increasingly important. As soon as someone's data are in the remote server, unwanted users or “hackers” can have many opportunities to compromise the data. As the online server needs to be up and running all the time, the only way to secure the cloud server is by using better passwords by every user. By the same token, the flaws in the password authentication and protection system can also help unwanted users to get their way to other people's personal data. Thus, the password authentication system should also be free from any loopholes and vulnerabilities.

Once the PI is concluded, Peace Corps officials struggle with how to inform volunteers and others on the status of the case. Not only are the facts coming out of the PI extremely damaging to Bill’s case, but the Peace Corps also continues to be battered by complaints from volunteers and others that Bill has been abandoned. Because the prosecution presented its case at the PI, but the defense did not, the only public details available are damning ones presented by the prosecution. Deputy General Counsel Tony Essaye and others prepare memos on the facts, the legal and medical issues, and what needs to be done. The memos are sent to Peace Corps Washington, where further responses and analysis are provided. These memos will serve as an important framework for the trial preparation to come.

Resumen
Recently, development of a small size and high efficient heat exchanger, which is utilized in a fuel battery and a heat pump system for CO2 refrigerant and so on, is strongly required. In author’s previous studies, the prototype of the stacked high pressure resistance microchannel heat exchanger manufactured with diffusing bond technique has been proposed. The objectives of the present study are to reveal flow and heat-transfer properties of counter-flow microchannel heat exchanger and to reveal the heat transfer mechanism with condensation in a microchannel. As the results, it is found that heat transfer rate of the present heat exchanger with high- and low-temperature water as working fluids is approximately 8 kW which is 2 kW higher than that of the existing heat exchangers. It is suggested that the flow pattern in a microchannel transits from annular flow to injection flow, and finally it becomes bubbly flow.

Resumen
An in situ study of stress evolution of germanium as a lithium-ion battery electrode material is presented. Thin films of germanium are cycled in a half-cell configuration with lithium metal foil as counter/reference electrode, with 1M lithium hexafluorophosphate in ethylene carbonate, diethylene carbonate, dimethyl carbonate solution (1:1:1, wt. %) as electrolyte. Real-time stress evolution in the germanium thin-film electrodes during electrochemical lithiation and delithiation is measured by monitoring the substrate curvature using the multi-beam optical sensing method. Germanium thin film undergoes extensive inelastic deformation during electrochemical lithiation and delithiation similar to silicon. The peak compressive stress during lithiation in germanium was 0.6 GPa, which is almost half of the peak compressive stress of lithiated silicon. The tensile stress of lithiated Ge on the other hand was almost same as that of lithiated silicon, 1 GPa of peak stress. The stress response of the first cycle was slightly different from that of the second cycle, which is an indication of irreversible structural changes in the Ge electrode during the first cycle. The Ge thin films survived stresses as high as 1 GPa of tensile stress without developing any cracks while the Si films under same conditions showed extensive cracking, consistent with previous observations which claimed lithiated Ge to be tougher than lithiated Si.

Resumen
Motivated by the long term target settings for research and innovation in Europe and in North America, initial investigations of parallel hybrid electric power plant systems have indicated significant fuel reduction potentials for short range air transport. While an electric motor assists the gas turbine in suppling mechanical power to the gas turbine within the classical parallel hybrid topology, in the present paper, a more sophisticated variant, namely the Cycle-Integrated Parallel Hybrid (CIPH) is considered. More specifically, the design and performance implications of a CIPH power plant architecture are investigated with regard to an advanced turboshaft (TS) engine application for helicopters. For this purpose, an array of compressor stages of the baseline TS power plant are decoupled from the turbine section, and are driven mechanically independently by means of electric motors. The baseline power plant of the investigated concept is derived for a 12-ton-helicopter accommodating 19 passengers on a 450nm mission. It consists of an axi-centrifugal compressor powered by the high pressure turbine as well as a free low pressure (power) turbine delivering a maximum shaft power of 3300 kW. For the presented CIPH concept, the axial compressor section is electrified with the help of linear electric motors mounted at the blade tips. Due to typical design characteristics of electric motors, counter rotating stages are considered most appropriate for the targeted TS power plant application. The electric motor power supply is realized through a Power Management And Distribution system featuring proper levels of redundancy. For the electrical energy storage, advanced battery technology is taken into account. Hybrid electric Energy and Propulsion Systems (EPS) can be characterized meaningfully by the degree of power hybridization, HP, being defined as the ratio of the installed electric power to the total power. For the presented CIPH application, a best and balanced HP of 19.7% has been identified. In typical part load operation, this may lead to relative Power Specific Fuel Consumption (PSFC) improvements of up to 45% and overall efficiency has been almost doubled compared to the TS reference. With the implementation of electric power within the cycle, additional degrees of freedom for power plant operation and control can be established. At vehicular level, a retrofitted version of the reference helicopter equipped with the CIPH TS propulsion system faces more than 50% reduced range, but simultaneously reduces total energy consumption (fuel plus electrical) by 28% and CO2 by 42% compared to the reference vehicle at identical reduced range.

Resumen
Since the early 1900’s demand for fuel efficient vehicles has motivated the development of electric and hybrid electric vehicles. Unfortunately, some components used in these vehicles are expensive and complex. Todays consumer electric vehicles use dangerously high voltage, expensive electronic controllers, complex battery management systems and AC motors. The goal of this research at BYU is to increase safety by lowering the operating voltage and decrease cost by eliminating expensive controllers and decrease the number of battery cells. This paper specifically examines the use of a Ward Leonard Motor Control system for use in a passenger vehicle. The Ward Leonard System provides an alternative control method to expensive and complex systems used today. A Control Factor metric was developed as a result of this research to measure the Ward Leonard System’s ability to reduce the size and cost of the electronic controller for application in an EV or HEV. A bench top model of the Ward Leonard system was tested validating the Control Factor metric. The Ward Leonard system is capable of reducing the controller size by 77% and potentially reducing its cost by this amount or more. This work also provides performance characteristics for automotive designers and offers several design alternatives for EV and HEV architectures allowing a reduction in voltage, the use of AC inverters, AC motors, expensive controllers and high cell count battery packs.
