Texto completoThis work involves the deposition of single-phase or nanocomposite thin film by RF sputtering for use as materials for gas sensors. As a first step, we studied the influence of deposition conditions on the microstructure of spinel oxides thin films. Electron microscopy, ellipsometry and surface area measurements by the B. E. T. Method made it possible to characterize the films microstructure and to establish a model which describes the arrangement of grains and the microporosity at the nanometer scale. We were able to observe a strong increase of the porosity in the films prepared with deposition conditions favouring collisions between particles and, accordingly, a strong shadowing effect between the grains (high argon pressure and long target-substrate distance). In the second step, the reduction phenomena during the deposition process by RF sputtering from a delafossite CuFeO2 target led to the deposition of nanocomposite CuO/CuxFe3-xO4 thin films. This type of original material combining intimately oxides of "n" and "p" type seems promising for the detection of CO and CO2. We sought to optimize the sensitivity of thin layers of 50 nm thickness on different substrates. A maximum sensitivity of 97% and 60% could be obtained when tested in CO and CO2 at 400 and 250°C, respectively

Texto completoIn this thesis, two applications of nanomaterials are presented: the first concerns the use of the LSPR for the detection of molecular interactions and the second is devoted to the use of TiO2 and ZnO semi-conductive surfaces for photocatalysis in view of environmental remediation. The first part concerns the fabrication and characterization of plasmonic interfaces of ITO/Au NSs/ITO. These surfaces showed optical signals for thin as well as for thick ITO films. These interfaces allowed short and long-range LSPR sensing. The “click” chemistry was used to covalently link an alkynyl-functionalized CBPQT4+ unit to an azide-terminated LSPR interface. Tetrathiafulvalene was used as a model guest molecule to demonstrate the possibility to follow the complexation/decomplexation events by monitoring the change in the LSPR signal. The second part is devoted to photocatalysis. It is focused on the investigation of the effect of two different treatments of TiO2 and ZnO on their photocatalytic efficiency under visible light irradiation. We have first prepared and characterized quartz slides coated with a thin layer of TiO2 with different thicknesses with and without gold nanostructures under the thin layer of TiO2. The photocatalytic performance of these interfaces is not exceptional for the degradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation but these interfaces have the advantage of being very stable. The last part of the thesis consists on the preparation of ZnO and iodine-doped ZnO substrates by a hydrothermal chemical deposition, and evaluation of their photocatalytic performance. The substitution of oxygen ions by iodine ions introduces donor levels in the bandgap of ZnO, which are sufficiently shallow at room temperature. The activation of a sub-band gap transition in iodine-doped ZnO nanostructured substrates explains the better performance of these substrates for the photodegradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation. These results are very promising in view of various photocatalytic applications of the ZnO-based substrates

Texto completoThe preparation of cadmium free buffer layers is one of the major objectives in the medium term for the CIS solar cells field for two principal reasons : the toxicity of cadmium and limitations introduced by the CdS layer on the level of the optimal performances of the cells associated with the losses into UV region. This limitation could be overcome by using wider band gap buffer layers. The efforts of research in this field have been developed significantly these last years. The most promising results have been obtained by using zinc oxy-sulfide buffers prepared by chemical bath deposition. However, the understanding of both deposition mechanism and film properties is by far lower than what is the current status of chemical bath deposition of CdS. In a first part, a general presentation of CIS solar cells is done with a special focus on buffer layers. Then, the synthesis of zinc-oxo-sulfide films from aqueous solution is analysed from a thermodynamic point of view. The competition between the formation of ZnS, Zn(OH)2 and ZnO will be considered. The effect of temperature, leading to significant displacements of the deposition regions, will be treated by introducing its effect on the thermodynamical coefficients. In a third part, by means of microbalance analysis, the deposition mechanism are determined and deposition conditions are optimized. The next chapter is focused on films properties which allowed us to fix experimental conditions for the deposition of dense, compact and uniform ZnS films. Finally, device studies have been carried out on electrodeposited copper indium sulfo-selenide and co-evaporated copper indium-gallium di-selenide absorbers

Texto completoLow energy electron diffraction (LEED), Auger spectroscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) have been used to study ultrathin films of alkali atoms deposited on Si(111)-v3´v3R30:B surface. An alkali-induced surface state of s-pz symmetry has been evidenced by photoemission being maximum close to the saturation coverage of 1/3 monolayer. A quantitative IV-LEED study evidences the H3 alkali adsorption site as predicted by ab initio calculations. High resolution ARPES data presented in this work evidence a band-folding, a large alkali-dependent semi-conducting gap and a narrow bandwidth. The Cs- induced surface band is shown to present a smaller gap together with a non-zero spectral weight at the Fermi level. These results are a priori consistent with the correlated nature of these materials, the Harrison criterion U/W>>1 being fulfilled for these half-filled surface bands. Moreover, a novel 2v3´2v3 lattice and charge ordering has been discovered below 300 K characterized by a quadrupling of the unit cell and a net energy gain for the surface band. In addition, the temperature dependence of the ARPES spectra suggests these materials are characterized by a strong electron-phonon coupling. High resolution core-levels photoemission spectroscopy recorded at the CASSIOPEE beamline (synchrotron SOLEIL) evidence a local charge ordering at surface in both phases. The corresponding band mapping agree well with the 2(v3´v3) symmetry also for both phases. All these experimental results sign a strong interplay between the charge and lattice degrees of freedom which have never been predicted for these semiconducting surfaces. Therefore, a scenario assuming a charge density wave at surface in the strong electron-phonon coupling limit is proposed. As a striking point, the bi-polaronic insulating ground state is proposed to be reached making these alkali/Si(111) semi-conducting surfaces model systems to study polaronic signatures on the physical properties of low dimensional strongly correlated materials

Texto completoIn this work we interested in the development and characterization of binary materials with n-type conductivity TiO2 and SnO2 for gas sensor applications. We have chosen these materials because of their availability and their structural, morphological, optical and electrical characteristics, which are suitable for gas sensor applications. TiO2 and SnO2 thin layers have been deposited by spray pyrolysis in ambient air. Using the classical method, we studied the effect of certain factors on TiO2 and SnO2 physicochemical properties. The samples were analyzed using various techniques such as XRD, Raman, EDS, SEM, UV-Visible and the two-tip method. The results of these studies showed that the SnO2 and TiO2 thin films are well crystallized in anatase and rutile phases respectively, with preferential orientations along the (101) and (110) planes. Raman spectroscopy confirmed the purity of these materials by the presence of peaks characteristics of these phases, while UV- Visible was proved the semiconducting properties of SnO2 and TiO2. The L9 Taguchi table method was used to optimize the number of experiments in order to determine the right processing conditions leading to the best properties of TiO2 and SnO2 in thin films. The results of the Taguchi method showed a significant improvement in the SnO2 and TiO2 properties compared with the conventional method. Our gas sensors prepared on the basis of TiO2, SnO2 and Ti⁴⁺ doped SnO2 thin films respond to NO2 at room temperature, and the SnO2-based sensors respond better than TiO2 to this gas. The sensor made from a thin layer of SnO2 doped with 5% Ti⁴⁺ and operated at 200°C had the highest sensitivities to the low concentrations of H2S

Texto completoDans l'objectif de développer un laser compact pompé électriquement, des films minces de Cr2+:ZnSe ont été élaborés à température ambiante par pulvérisation magnétron radiofréquence d'une cible de SiO2 recouverte de morceaux de ZnSe et de chrome sous plasma d'argon pur, sur des substrats de verre, Si et GaAs.
Quelque soit le substrat, les films déposés sont constitués de ZnSe cubique quasi-stoechiométrique et présentent une structure colonnaire avec une forte orientation préférentielle dans la direction 111. Le recours à l'analyse combinée par diffraction X a permis de résoudre simultanément la texture, la structure et la microstructure d'un des films déposés. Le spectre de PL des films à température ambiante dans le domaine 2-3 µm, comparable à celui des cristaux de référence de Cr2+ :ZnSe, a été obtenu d'une part par excitation directe des ions Cr2+ (1.85 µm) et d'autre part par excitation indirecte en utilisant un laser visible. Les paramètres de dépôt (puissance radiofréquence, pression d'argon, quantité de chrome) ont été optimisés pour obtenir des films présentant une intensité de PL maximum dans le MIR.

Texto completoThis thesis reports the study of the properties of transparent conductive films obtained from carbon nanotube dispersions. The dispersion formulation is a key step in order to obtain uniform films with good opto-electrical properties. In particular, the formation of attractive interactions between dissolved carbon nanotubes allows the modification of the rheological behavior of the dispersions and the improvement of their deposition in thin layer by coating. Also, the influence of the interactions on the carbon nanotube network morphology is presented. The structural changes of the networks are then related to both electrical properties and thickness of the films. Finally, the use of semiconducting polymers was analyzed in order to improve the fabrication and the properties of transparent conductive films
