Texto completoThis thesis is in the context of measuring congestion on the network and the evolution of transport protocols. Changes are continually being made to meet the needs of users and new services. Congestion is one of the most critical issues because it has an impact on the performance of Internet networks, hence the need for congestion control algorithms to prevent or remove it. Today, no algorithm perfectly meets the expected requirements, and a lot of research is underway. Nevertheless, these new algorithms can affect network fainress since the behaviour of the transport protocol can change radically depending on the congestion control algorithm used in the endpoints. In addition, in recent years, transport protocols have undergone major changes. A recent significant exampleis Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC), a protocol introduced by Google, which aims to replace two widely used transport and security protocols, Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Transport Layer Security (TLS). QUIC is implemented in user applications (rather than in the operatingsystem kernel). It is designed to be resistant to ossification and therefore more versatile. This makes content providers, such as Google, hegemonic about the data rate of their users. Due to the progressive development of congestion control algorithms and the evolving nature of transport protocols, new challenges arise in fairness management. This is why, in this thesis, we focused on the development of a test platform to measure network fairness based on the flow rate of the different flows. In addition, in order to characterize fairness as perceived by a user, we focused on determining an impartial procedure for assessing fainress during an entire session of a transport flow (called Session Fairness Assessment(SFA) and Weighted Session Fairness Assessment(WSFA)). Based on these elements, we specifically analyzed the fairness of the protocols when TCP and QUIC flows coexist on a fixed and mobile network. In our fairness assessments, weidentified the impact of aspects of QUIC implementation such as: emulating multiple TCP connections, limiting the size of congestion windows and using the hystart option. The results show that these mechanisms have a strong influence on fairness on both fixed and mobile networks. Indeed,a wrong setting of the default parameters of these mechanisms or the activation of the hystart option can affect the performance of transport protocols and therefore fainress. With regard to the evaluation of congestion control algorithms, the results show that the fainress between two different algorithms depends on the network configuration. This conclusion demonstrates that a measurement procedure, such as the one presented in this thesis, is relevant to conducting the fairness assessment. In this thesis we can conclude that the lack of standardization, for example of emulating multiple TCP connections in QUIC, leads us to question more broadly how QUIC’s design philosophy takes fairness into account. In addition, the results obtained on the evaluation of the fainress of congestion control algorithms allow us to question the fainress evaluation of several contributions when it is not tested in enough network configurations

This study is trying to distinguish authority from power, as legitimacy from lawfulness, but also to suggest an explanation of the notion through axiology. This research intends to understand authority differently than a sole relation to others, and harvests both the ethical and moral fields however not through otherness. Furthermore, the way we consider childhood and understand parenthood nowadays does not fall far from considering authority itself. Thus, it seems of primordial importance to be able to determine the child's capacities as much as his or her parents's responsibility in order to carry out a proper research on the authority process throughout the child's upbringing. Just like restraint lies in everyone, we consider this process comes from self-control (no pathology included), which falls within human specificities. The last part of this work will focus on understanding how the child can be helped to carry out this authority and why it appears necessary to his or her development, particularly if we take into account the moral liberty this process seems to enable us with

Texto completoThis work aims at improving the security linked to the use of Li-batteries electrolytes. First, we tested the use of redox shuttles as an electrochemical system of internal protection against overcharge. We studied the possibility of employing ionic liquids as electrolytes for Li-ion accumulator. Finally, we tested two fluoro-alkylcarbonates as flame-retardant additives. Three classes of molecules were studied as redox shuttles : metallic complexes, aromatic and radical systems. Only a few molecules of the radical system allow an efficient protection against overcharge of the cell Li4Ti5O12 / (EC/DEC) + LiPF6 / LiFePO4. These molecules are the TEMPO (tetramethylpiperidinyl-1-oxy) and the Cyano-TEMPO, they limit the recharge voltage to 3. 5-3. 7 V vs. Li+/Li. We chose two ionic liquids whose anion is the bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI-) ion and the cation N-trimethyl-N-hexylammonium (HTMA+) or N-trimethyl-N-propylammonium (PTMA+). Two electrolytes have been optimized regarding their transport properties and their thermal stability : HTMA+TFSI-/(EC:DEC) [ = 0. 3] + LiTFSI 1 mol. L-1 and PTMA+TFSI-/(EC:DEC) [ = 0. 25] + LiTFSI 1 mol. L-1 ( with the weight fraction of the ionic liquid in the mix). The electrochemical study shows that the electrolyte cannot be cycled on the graphite electrode. Cyclic voltammetry performed on the negative electrode demonstrates the absence of formation of the SEI and reveals the intercalation of ammonium cations into the graphene layers. The analysis of the electrode, after cycling, by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and NMR spectroscopy, confirms the insertion of the ammonium cations. To improve the cycling results, we replaced the EC by the Cl-EC (chloro-ethylene carbonate). Cl-EC allows the formation of the passivation layer that protects graphite against exfoliation, but does not prevent the intercalation of the ammonium cations. The cycling tests on the negative electrode Li4Ti5O12 and the positive LixCoO2 were conducted successfully. In order to improve the ininflamability of the electrolyte (EC/DMC/DEC + LiPF6 1 mol. L-1), we tested the use of two fluoro-alkylcarbonates as flame-retardant additives : the 2,2,3,3,4,4,4-hepatafluorobutyl methyl carbonate (FC2) and the 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-pentadecafluorooctyl methyl carbonate (FC1). These two additives were synthetized at the laboratory. The electrochemical study demonstrates that the FC1 compound does not modify the cyclability of the positive electrode LixCoO2. Nevertheless, it generates an important loss of capacity of the graphite electrode. The cycling tests conducted on the LixCoO2 cathode and the graphite anode show the good performances of the FC2 additive

Texto completoThe healthcare systems are paying a great interest to the patients’ perspective for the organization of health care provision. Healthcare system which is accountable and responsive of patients’ needs and preferences is a major issue for the quality and efficiency of care. In this thesis, we analyze the views of patients for the supply of GP care in using different complementary methods about patients’ experience, satisfaction, importance or preferences. These methods are applied to a sample of patients in GP and to a sample of chronically ill patients in order to identify current and future major issues for the reorganization of GP care from the patients’ perspective. The results show the main role of the doctor-patient relationship and especially of the information exchange between doctor and patient and between patient and doctor. However the quality of the doctor-patient relationship is not enough. The technical quality of care (i.e. thoroughness) and the coordination are of high importance for patients. This work highlights that it is necessary to take into account the patients’ experiences in the analysis of their perspective (e.g. preferences) to fully and appropriately understand the results, especially in terms of willingness to change. The systematic and regular screening of patient preferences in daily GP practice can improve the doctor-patient communication and the content of the provision of care from the perspective of patients

Texto completoThe field of 3D sound is experiencing rapid growth due to a combination of factors (standardization of new audio formats, equipment for cinemas, etc.). While mast of the work in this field has focused on 3D sound processing, creating 3D auditory content interactively remains a challenging task because il requires drawing and editing three dimensional trajectories to control the movement of audio sources in space. ln this thesis in Human-Computer Interaction (HGI), we consider the creation of audio source trajectories as a particular case of 3D modelling and propose the following contributions. On a conceptual level, we tirst present a design space of 3D trajectory creation techniques. We also propose a classification of existing camera controls in relation to the type of control and modalities. On an empirical level, we conducted five user studies in order to design a new interaction technique for orbital viewpoint control. This technique allows users to perform 360 wide rotations by leveraging head roll rotations. Finally, we propose an implementation of our interaction technique and present its integration with two applications: Blender, a well-known 3D modelling software, and Performer, which ls used by Radio France to place sound sources in 3D space during live events

Texto completoIn plants, the processes of global development and of developmental plasticity are controlled by epigenetic mechanisms. Polymorphism in DNA methylation (leading to epialleles) is a possible source of biomarkers for the selection of genotypes of agronomic interest. Until now, however, the search for such biomarkers has not been undertaken. Against this background, our objectives were to develop a strategy to investigate the existence of epigenetic control during a developmental process in sugar-beet (Beta vulgaris altissima) and to search for associated epigenetic biomarkers. The strategy was first applied to three sugar-beet cell lines, where we were able to established a relationship between the level of DNA methylation and the morphogenetic statue of the lines, and thus to identified a number of biomarkers for in vitro morphogenesis. We then applied the same strategy in planta in the same species and demonstrated the existence of epigenetic control (DNA methylation) during vernalization and devernalization in several sugar-beet hybrids that differed for bolting susceptibility. We propose that the scale and kinetics of epigenetic modifications control the induction and the rapidity of bolting, confirming the role of DNA methylation in this process. We have identified a number of target loci for these changes in DNA methylation during vernalization, and by screening these have been able to select several potential epigenetic biomarkers for bolting susceptibility, which may prove useful in future beet improvement programmes

Texto completoTo construct a device for controlling the blinking of nanocrystals, it was necessary to create a solid-state active material that can be integrated in such an apparatus. To this end, we have encapsulated cadmium-based quantum dots (QDs) in a crystalline matrix of a hybrid lead-bromide perovskite. This manuscript describes all the steps that have been undertaken to achieve the creation of this new composite. We have developed a synthesis of QDs that are resistant to encapsulation in an ionic matrix by means of an organic-inorganic ligand exchange that allowed us to integrate nanocrystals into the matrix while conserving their luminescence properties. We were thus able to document efficient encapsulation and a coupling between the QDs and the matrix. These two characteristics are favorable for using this composite in a control device which ultimately aims at optically following the luminescence of the BQs and applying an electric field to extract and evacuate the excess charges responsible for the nonemissive state. The successful completion of this step will enable us in the future to study the phenomenon of blinking and, more importantly, to construct a stable on-demand single-photon source

Texto completoIn this thesis work, we deal with the problem of scan planning and we also address the problem of 3D point clouds alignment. These problems can be studied and globalized to meet the needs of many fields of study. In this manuscript, we answer the following question: how to automatically control a mechanical part during machining? Or more precisely: how to obtain a good representation of the part so as to check its good conformity during the machining process? The first contribution to this study is the development of an automatic algorithm for planning the digitization of the part according to the controls to be carried out on it. The approach allows to adapt to any optical digitizing device. In our study, we show the results of this method on several fringe projection optical sensors and on several industrial parts. The proposed method is general and allows to adapt to any industrial environment in which the part to be controlled is positioned. The second contribution focuses on the specific case of data from optical sensors, i.e. 3D point clouds. From the scanning plan, we develop a strategy for aligning point clouds between them. We address the problem of cases where the alignment of point clouds is not possible and try to solve this problem. Finally, we show several industrial applications of these algorithms, and we study the precision of the methods on these cases. We propose several openings on the continuation of this work, in particular on the specific cases of non-alignable parts or on large parts. Ideas for improvement and robustification of the algorithms are discussed

Thus, the leaves of these foliations are foliated by holomorphic manifolds. In order to study this foliations, we introduce the notion of overfoliation. In particular, we said that a Levi-flat foliation is an overfoliation of its complex part. Then, we characterize the existence of an overfoliation in terms of holonomy. We calculate the holonomy of codimension 1 holomorphic foliations admitting an overfoliation. Hence, we classify the real codimension 1 overfoliations of some holomorphic foliations with isolated singularities. With the help of a classification by E. Ghys, we study the codimension 1 Levi-flat foliations on complex torus with holomorphic complex part and at last the real analytic Levi-flat foliations on these manifolds

Texto completoThe diversity of life derives mostly from the variety of proteins coded in genomes. How did evolution produce such a tremendous diversity ? The classical theory postulates that this diversity results both from sequence divergence and from the combinatorial arrangements of a few thousand primary protein domain types. However this does not account for the increasing number of entirely unique proteins as found in most genomes.In this thesis, we study the evolution of proteins from the point of view of their domain decomposition and rely on three databases : HOGENOM (homologous protein families), Pfam (manually curated protein domain families) and ProDom (automatically built protein module families). Each protein family from HOGENOM has thus been decomposed into Pfam domains or ProDom modules. We have modelled the evolution of these families using a Bayesian network based on the phylogenetic species tree. In the framework of this model, we can rigorously reconstitute the most likely evolutionary scenarios reflecting the presence or absence of each protein, domain or module in ancestral species. The comparison of these scenarios allows us to analyse the emergence of new proteins in terms of ancestral domains or modules. Pfam analysis suggests that the majority of protein innovations results from rearrangements of ancient domains, in agreement with the classical paradigm of modular protein evolution. However a very significant part of protein diversity is then neglected. On the other hand ProDom analysis suggests that the majority of new proteins have recruited novel protein modules. We discuss the respective biases of Pfam and ProDom underlying these contrasting views. We propose that the emergence of new protein modules may result from a fast turnover of coding sequences and that this module innovation is essential to the emergence of numerous novel proteins throughout evolution

Texto completoThis study pertains to students' personal work in mathematics in French business school preparatory classes. Our aim was to explore the links that exist between the institutional and the personal organization of study in order to determine how these institutions explicitly shore up their students. This study's first concern was to examine the evolution of the different aspects of students' personal work throughout the first year of preparatory classes. We then focused on the factors which contribute to this evolution. In that respect, we considered the institutional functioning, starting at a macro level of the global business school preparatory classes' institution, and then reaching a more local level of a teacher's class, looking for ways through which the institution determines and transforms the working habits of its students. On the first hand, we examined the institutional organization of study and the teaching devices implemented by the teachers and compared those of two tracks; on the other hand, we studied social relationships which are established among students and those built between teachers and students. Finally, we tried to identify work modalities that are specific to students who achieve good results and to understand what favors them, both at the institutional and interpersonal levels. Several instruments were combined through a mixed methods design to collect data in order to better answer our research questions. Texto completoUpper limb amputation, although quite rare, induces enormous loss of autonomy for patients in most daily life activities. To overcome this loss, current myoelectric prosthesis offers a multitude of possible movements. However, current controls of these movements are typically non-intuitive and cognitively demanding, leading to a high abandon rate in response to the long and tedious learning involved. In this thesis, we aimed at identifying difficulties and gaps associated with myoelectric controls when compared to natural sensorimotor control, with the long term goal of informing the design of better solutions for prosthesis control. To do so, we manipulated several experimental conditions in a simplified human-machine interface, where non-amputated subjects controlled a cursor on a computer screen from isometric contractions, i.e. muscle contractions produced in the absence of joint movement. This isometric condition was designed to get closer to a situation in which an amputee controls a myoelectric prosthesis using electrical activity (EMG) of his/her residual muscles, without movement of the missing limb. During aiming movements, we demonstrated the benefits of adapting the decoder that translate muscle activities into cursor movement in conjunction with the own subject’s adaptation of the planned movement direction in response to oriented perturbations. Furthermore, these benefits were showed to be even more important as the artificial decoder adaptation was inspired by the modeled adaptation of a human. In reaching and tracking movements toward fixed and moving targets, which increasingly involve online movement regulations, we revealed the importance of an immediate congruency between sensorimotor information and the cursor position on the screen for timely and efficient corrections. For conditions in which the level of noise associated with the control signal is relatively low, such as when using force that is more stable than the usual EMG signal used, this congruency partly explains the better performance obtained with zero order control (i.e. position) when compared to first order control (i.e. velocity). However, when the noise level increases, as is the case with EMG signals, the filtering property associated with the integration involved in a velocity control elicits better performances than with a position control. Taken together, these results suggest that intuitive and adaptive decoder, that supplies and judiciously complements natural sensorimotor feedback loops, is promising to facilitate future prosthesis controls

Texto completoIn order to reach their target, guided artillery projectiles need some steering capability. Folding and adjustable control surfaces are thus necessary. However, mounting adjustable rudders on a shell is a difficult task, mechanically speaking. Indeed, during the gun launch, the onboard equipment undergoes significant acceleration so that robust mechanical joints have to be designed between the rudders and the body. This technique performs very well on large-caliber projectiles, but becomes more complicated when it has to be embedded in small- or medium-caliber ones. Nevertheless, under supersonic flight conditions, shock waves interacting with solid surfaces are likely to strongly modify the pressure distribution. This principle made it possible to imagine a way of steering small-caliber vehicles using shock waves generated by means of small disturbances created by a cylindrical-shaped micro-actuator, also called micro-pin. As lift forces exerted on a body are mainly due to the pressure applied to large surfaces, a finned configuration has been chosen. To simplify the study, the work has been conducted on the Basic Finner, a well known academic reference projectile.Experiments were first performed in the ISL supersonic wind tunnel on a flat plate on which a pin and two vertical projectile-like fins were mounted in order to validate the capability of steady RANS numerical simulations to predict both the pressure footprint of such an actuator and the flow velocity in its vicinity. Pressure and velocity distributions have been measured by using optical methods called Pressure-Sensitive Paint (PSP) and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) in order to be compared with the calculation results. A parametric study was then conducted with these RANS simulations so that the optimum location for which the pin is the most effective over the complete flight envelope of the projectile could be determined. Using this optimum position two specific no-roll momentum configurations were studied numerically and compared in terms of effectiveness. By using the aerodynamic coefficients resulting from this work, 6-Degree-Of-Freedom (6-DOF) trajectory simulations were performed with the NATO BALCO code on one of these configurations in order to determine the potential deviation which can be obtained with such an actuator. These 6-DOF simulations as well as the pin effect on the projectile could finally be validated during a free-flight campaign that took place at the ISL open-range testing site

Texto completoThe purpose of this thesis is to develop a methodology of treatment for logical consistency checking in a Geographical Information System (GIS), in order to ensure the migration of the data in the case of a technological change of system and re-structuring. This methodology is then applied to a real GIS installed in the Urban Community of Lyon (the SUR). Logical consistency is one of the quality criteria that are commonly allowed within the community of producers and users of geographical data, as well as precision or exhaustiveness for instance. After a presentation of the elements of quality and metadata in GIS, a state of the art is given concerning various works of standardization within these fields. The different standards under development (those of the CEN, the ISO and the FGDC among others) are analyzed and commented. A methodology of detection and correction of geometrical and topological errors is then detailed, within the framework of existing geographical vector databases. Three types of errors are identified, namely structural, geometrical and semantic errors. For each one of these families of errors, methods of detection based on established theories (integrity constraints, topology and computational geometry) are proposed as well ideas for the correction are detailed. This approach is then implemented within the context of the SUR databases. To complete this application, a specific mechanism was developed to deal also with the errors in tessellations, which were not taken into account by the methodology (which uses binary topological relations). Finally to ensure the consistency of the corrections, a method was set up to spread the corrections in the neighborhood of the objects under corrections. Those objects can be located inside a single layer of data as well as between different layers or different databases of the system

Texto completoAcute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a clonal hematopoietic disorder characterized by the accumulation of malignant hematopoietic progenitor cells with an impaired myeloid differentiation program. The molecular basis of AML is thought to be associated with the acquisition of at least two types of critical cooperating mutations occurring at the hematopoietic stem or committed progenitors level. Class I mutations, affecting tyrosine kinases receptors and key components of cellular signalling pathways, confer growth and proliferative advantages. They are associated with class II mutations, affecting transcription factors thus leading to impaired normal differentiation program. In this study, we were first interested in CHK1, a protein kinase involved in preserving genome integrity by playing a critical role at the intra-S and G2/M cell cycle checkpoint activated in DNA damage response. We have shown that activation of CHK1 was sustained in immature cell lines, leading to a more stringent G2/M checkpoint in response to DNA damage, thus impairing illegitimate entry into mitosis in presence of unrepaired DNA damage and participating in their resistance to genotoxic agents. In a second study, we have demonstrated an abnormal activation of the CHK1 kinase in a large panel of AML patient samples, associated with the presence of constitutive DNA damage in absence of genotoxic stress. Moreover, the level of CHK1 activation is significantly correlated with unfavourable cytogenetic samples, particularly with complex karyotype phenotype. CHK1 inhibition by the pharmacological inhibitor UCN-01 or by RNA interference was found to decrease the clonogenic capacity of the AML progenitors, and to induce a chemosensitisation to ara-C. In contrast, growth of normal hematopoietic progenitors, which do not display constitutive DNA damage, was not impaired by such treatment. Overall, all these results underline the dual role of CHK1 kinase in AML pathology in the chemoresistance of immature leukemic cells and in the establishment of the genomic instability observed in complex karyotype AML. These findings could have major pharmacologic consequences, because they open a therapeutic window for new compounds targeting the cell cycle checkpoint machinery in AML and more particularly in the worst prognostic group with complex karyotype

Texto completoThe first part is devoted to an epistemological study of critical, narratological, semio-linguistical and hermeneutical approaches which, in the french studies, have dealt with the question of the point of view (=POV, or narrative focalization). The conclusions of this historico-critical approach lead to a constrained definition of POV, and to configurations of semio-linguistical marquers of POV. These are the aims of the second part, which deals with a corpus limited to heterodiegetic narrations. The first section is devoted to a study of the basic structure of the POV and to its textual manifestations. The POV corresponds to the expression of a subjectivity corefering to the third person, independant of the reported speech, whithin narrative and descriptive sequences. The lingusitic bases of the POV are the represented perceptions and/or the represented thougts related to the former, when these perceptions and/or thougts are thematized in backgrounds, most of the time with "imparfait". These represented perceptions and thougts are under the syntactic dependance of a subject and a process of perception mentioned in foregrounds, and/or under the only semantic dependance of an agent or a process which is not explicity mentioned and which the reader infers. According to the various semio-linguistical criteria, these thematization markers may corefer either to the saillant character (=C's POV) or to the narrator (=N's POV). Both subjects of the POV adopt internal or external visions towards diegetic objects. Thus the analysis distanciates itself from the traditional three-way typology of focalizations and accounts for the "external focalization" in terms of external vision of a textual object focalized by C's POV or N's POV. The second section analyses some essential characteristics of these visions. They have a different nature, and a different depth of perspective. Propositions in favour of a scale of depth question the ontological and psychological analyses which were the bases of the narratorial omniscience, and the restricted perception of the character. The third section deals with some aspects concerning the expression of the POV :expression more or less subjective or objective, dissonant or consonant ; initial or final markers of the POV

Texto completoThis thesis will propose a reading of the efficiency of Home-Based Social Care Intervention from a multi-dimensional perspective. The point of view of parents of children identified as the subject of the intervention is the predominant focus of exploration in this work. However, certain issues touched on as part of this research are illustrated with reference to service-professionals. This study will therefore highlight the sense given by the actors in the helping relationship in considering the inter-subjective representations of efficiency. The development of this research has been accompanied by changes in legislation, which have re-positioned the service-user in child-protection interventions. Will this changed position, together with new role-attributions in the helping relationship, influence the perceived efficiency of a Statutory Order? What is efficient help, for parents of children who are the designated subjects of Statutory Orders? To what extent are perceptions of efficiency congruent between parents and professionals? Efficiency appears as a complex circular phenomenon, operating retrospectively in relation to notions of skills and change. Does the service-user discourse have an evaluative function? If yes, then what place is that discourse allotted in the process of assessment, which itself, constitutes one of the key processes in the social-caring intervention?

Texto completoNondestructive testing (NDT) by acoustic emission (AE) allows the detection of the formation or the evolution of defects. It relies on the use of one or several sensors that can be permanently attached to a large structure to listen to AE events that can happen. In the framework of the development of a tool for simulating NDT/AE, this thesis aims at modeling the measurement of arbitrary elastic wave field by AE sensor. An exact formulation, then an approximate one which derives from it, are obtained from the electromechanical reciprocity principle, of the response of an AE sensor to elastic waves. It is demonstrated that the accurate calculation of these responses cannot be made under the usual simplifying hypotheses which lead naturally to one-dimensional model. Rather the opposite, it is demonstrated that for standard sensors conceived to be highly sensitive over a large bandwidth, complex vibration modes together with the sensor case influence fundamentally their response. A finite element model is proposed, experimentally validated and used to conduct parametric studies helpful for an operator choosing a sensor, for a manufacturer to optimally conceive sensors. A representation of AE sensor sensitivity is proposed, far more complete than what is usually known about sensors. A simulation strategy is developed relying on the formation of a database of sensor sensitivities

Texto completoThe first decade of the 21st century marks a transition in the history of the representations ofaging and old age. In the 2000s, Hollywood started offering new images of aging : less alarmist, less stereotypical, they are, all in all, more positive. As he is no longer pushed in the background,the aging character finds his way amid Hollywood heroes. In those films, which are carried by an old hero, aging is no longer concealed, but it is put in the spotlight. By their mere presence and visibility in such commercial cinema, these new aging characters signal a major shift : in the2000s, aging has become bankable, especially since its new portrayals speak to a generation which stands out on many different levels, the baby boomers. Besides, a wider social transformation shows through these innovative representations of aging, that of a new relationship to aging. “New aging” thus discards ageist clichés and the idea that aging isdeclining, and supplants these conceptions with a positive discourse on aging. This study revolves around popular Hollywood movies released between 2000 and 2010. It offers to shed a light on these new Hollywood representations of aging and on the way cinema has thus echoed innovative discourses on the matter, while attempting to offer its own version of a new outlook on aging

Texto completoThis research project deals with the learning of consecutive interpretation with french and korean as the working languages. An analysis is made of the interpreting process, bearing in mind the essential aim of this process: the transmission of a message from a speaker to his listeners. Such an approach orients professional methodology toward the application of one basic principle: the satisfactory performance of the act of translation is dependent upon the interpreter's understanding and his faithful and intelligible re-expression of what the speaker wishes to get across. The existence of significant linguistic differences between one language and another does not determine the degree of difficulty of the interpreting task. Such differences simply require the mastery of technics suited to the specificities of each language. The methods for acquiring these technics are the same for the french-korean combination as for combinations of european languages. While linguistic specificities do not constitute insurmountable difficulties in interpreting, they do nevertheless call for knowledge which must be perfectly assimilated by the interpreter. In interpreting, linguistic difficulties are distinguishable from the difficulties involved in the acquisition of professional technic. As far as language is concerned, there are no difficulties of interpretation; rather, any difficulties encountered will have to do with interpreter, i. E. Lack of sufficient linguistic knowledge on his part. If the interpreter has un adequate linguistic and cognitive background, if he has mastered the specific interpreting technics, and if he has the proper cast of mind for this type of work, then linguistic specificities will not be an obstacle to the transmission of the message, since the knowledge of these specificities will have become second nature. The principles and methods for acquiring the professional interpreting technic are therefore identical whatever the pair of languages involved and the difficulties resulting from the specificities of some languages are therefore easily solved through the use of specific technics
