Resumen
Introduction. The use of various types and forms of communication in communication activities is of certain research interest and can be learned through appropriate procedures. Unlocking the potential of contextual communication for professional and personal communication is the subject of this article. Materials and methods. To carry out this research as an effective epistemological practice, a systemic and axiological approach was applied, as well as a set of modern methods for processing scientific information from various fields of social and humanitarian knowledge. These are various variations of the use of the analytical-synthetic method, making analogies and comparisons, mental movement in deductive and inductive ways, generalization of scientific data and theoretical abstraction. Research results. The work consistently reveals the goals, objectives, structure, essence and concept of contextual communication based on the need for its implementation in professional activities and other forms of human interaction. It is noted that the main characteristic of contextual communication is its indirectness from direct communication, when the role of “subject-object of an example” is a real-life person, his actions (deeds) or examples of erroneous decisions. Through the mediation of contextual communication, it is possible to effectively transmit goal settings, value formations or epistemological constructs. Discussions and conclusions. The construction of work communication processes and the increasing shortage of time resources for personal communication in modern reality actualizes the problems of using increasingly effective and quickly applied communication tools. Such a tool today also includes contextual communication, which is used purposefully or spontaneously both in business interaction between people and in personal subject-subject communication. Knowledge of contextual communication has great cognitive prospects, the achievement of which was carried out in this work.

Resumen
In general, students need to be able to interact and communicate with one another from all walks of life, whether they are in personal or professional settings. Therefore, it is essential to examine students’ communication skills to ascertain whether they have adequate competence or not. In this regard, this research endeavored to determine the contextual communication competence of 266 Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BA Comm) students in one prime state university in Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines. Through a quantitative-descriptive research design, one result revealed that BA Comm students are able to use their understanding of successful and appropriate communication patterns in public, meeting, group, and dyad situations with an average level of contextual communication competence. On the same level, BA Comm majors are committed to the field because they have the necessary communication abilities to adapt and improve various communication tactics when conversing with friends, acquaintances, and strangers. Lastly, compared to female BA Comm students, male students are more self-assured and open to communicating in various communication contexts, such as in public, meeting, group, or dyad contexts, as well as with strangers, friends, and acquaintances. Further, BA Comm students see a growth in their level of contextual communication competence as they move through their year levels because of their communication classes and social involvement. Recommendations are also included for future research directions.

Resumen
AbstractThis study investigates the relationships between humor (frequency and effectiveness), communication satisfaction (informational and relational), and employee job performance (task and contextual) in international joint ventures in Iran. Based on a survey of 375 employees and their supervisors in two of the biggest joint ventures in the automotive industry in Iran, the results indicate that the frequency of humor had significant positive effects on contextual and task performance as well as on informational and relational communication satisfaction. In addition, informational communication satisfaction was significantly related to both contextual performance and task performance, whereas relational communication satisfaction was related only to task performance. Finally, informational communication satisfaction mediated the relationship between the frequency of humor and job performance (task and contextual), while relational communication satisfaction mediated the relationship between the frequency of humor and task performance.

Resumen
The article reminds and introduces the work of Zdzisław Grzegorski (1930–2012), a theologian from Poznań, a lecturer of homiletics and the editor of the “Biblioteka Kaznodziejska” (Preachers’ Library), called the father of the Polish school of contextual homiletics. The contextual homiletics, which he created and popularized in numerous publications, deals with the relationship of the forms of religious messages to other forms of communication and makes the effectiveness of proclaiming the word of God relevant to communicating. The service of the word creates a peculiar channel of information, consisting of such elements as: theological awareness, disposition of the preacher, the attitude of the recipient, the closer and further context, the language. The communication act on the pulpit has various functions: cognitive, conative, phatic and prophetic. The preacher should check the functioning of the communication channel through the theological and postulative observation. Grzegorski’s concept was developed in a few national symposia and conferences. It had a significant impact on the contemporary Polish homiletic reflection. The communication and contex- tual orientation can be seen in several works of Polish preachers. Nevertheless, Grzegorski’s work demands further development and popularization, so that the contextual understanding and practice of communicating the word of God has been adopted in the Church.

We take issue with the idea that this skill is individualistic and must be selected for at some different level than System 1 skills. Our case redraws System 1/2 boundaries, and reconsiders the relationship of competence model to skill.

Resumen
This study hypothesized a multilevel model to examine the contextual effects of gender norms, exposure to health-related radio programs, interpersonal communication, and social capital on family planning behavior in Uganda. The results of hierarchical linear modeling showed that all of the four variables were significant predictors of family planning behavior. The authors found that gender norms as a contextual factor significantly interacted with the individual-level perceived benefit. The significant cross-level interaction effect was also observed between individuals' interpersonal communication and contextual variation in listening to a health-related radio program. Practical implications for family planning communication campaigns are discussed.

This article analyzes U.S. news media coverage of foreign disasters, using a new data set on disasters, and incorporates variables representing several possible contextual influenceson the amount of coverage. The most notable aspect of the results produced in this analysis is that when the magnitude of the event is controlled for, the only contextual influence that demonstrates the expected relationship with the amount of coverage is the distance from the United States. Several of the other contextual factors that have been argued to be significant determinants of international flows of news are not significant in the analysis.

Resumen
AbstractThis paper explores stakeholder perspectives on the drought discourse in the UK, where climate change is predicted to increase drought risk. This study took a co-productive, mixed-methods approach to investigate drought risk communication issues through repeated engagements with local advisory groups in seven catchments across Britain and a national stakeholder competency group. These data were enriched by in-depth interviews with 17 statutory and non-statutory stakeholders working in a variety of capacities from water supply to habitat management. Codes were divided into contextual factors (cultural or drought specific factors) and individual factors (individual attributes relating to the person receiving the communication or factors within the control of communicators). The paper considers the implications of these contextual and personal factors for approaches to, and the framing of, drought risk communication (DRC). We conclude by proposing a framework for thinking about DRC in maritime climates where drought risk may not be readily perceived by some publics. This framework explores the role of heuristics in risk perception, and proposes a way of conceptualising publics that may more readily engage with DRC. In proposing the framework, we seek to stimulate new ways of thinking about DRC.

Resumen
This paper explores the intricate relationship between contextual cues and the interpretation and dissemination of metaphors in social networks. Utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach that combines insights from linguistics, cognitive psychology, and communication studies, we investigate how various contextual cues, such as visual elements, hashtags, and social signals, shape the way metaphors are understood and spread in digital environments. Through a comprehensive review of literature and analysis of case studies, we highlight the dynamic interplay between metaphor interpretation and dissemination, revealing how the same metaphor can evoke different interpretations and dissemination patterns depending on the surrounding context. Our findings underscore the complexity of metaphorical communication in social networks and its implications for online discourse. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of our study, emphasizing the importance of considering contextual cues in the effective use of metaphors in social media communication. Finally, we suggest future research directions to further explore the role of contextual cues in metaphorical communication in social networks.

Resumen
Mathematical communication skills is important to develop in students, because they have an important role in understanding a problem. Mathematical communication skills can be improved by learning Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) based on ethnomathematics with learning concepts that help teachers relate learning materials to students' real world situations. This study aims to develop indicators of mathematical communication skills and ethnomathematical-based Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning steps that can improve students' mathematical communication skills. The research method used in this study is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. This method identifies, examines, evaluates, and interprets existing research. Based on the literature review, several indicators of students' mathematical communication skills were found, namely interpreting pictures into mathematical ideas, expressing mathematical ideas in the form of pictures and expressing mathematical ideas in their own statements. The ethnomathematical-based Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model can improve students' mathematical communication skills. Keywords: mathematical communication, CTL, Ethnomathematics

Resumen
PurposeEvaluation and measurement (E&M) remains a critical and debated topic among communication scholars and practice. Substantial research and professional efforts have been devoted to discussing what should be measured and which methods should be applied. Most of the E&M models seem to carry a positivist imprint. But, in real-life, organizations could not have clear aims, enough resources, or adequate informative systems to support E&M. Moreover, several contextual factors could affect the implementation of E&M management processes. The communication literature rarely highlights these factors. To fulfill this gap, the purpose of this paper is to theorize the contextual factors relevant to the management of the evaluation process.Design/methodology/approachA scoping literature review was carried out exploring the role of contextual factors and impact of contextual factors on E&M management processes. More specifically, the review examines the contribution provided by program evaluation and performance measurement (PM) fields of research.FindingsThe paper provides a scoping review of program evaluation and PM approaches. Additionally, it explains how both streams of thought argued the importance of contextual factors, such as organizational, relational, cultural and communicative factors, for the success of any evaluation processes. The study underlined that the main evaluation models used in the field of communication have overlooked these studies and put on evidence the role of contextual factors in effectively executing communication E&M.Originality/valueThe paper enriches the dominant rationale concerning the E&M management processes by incorporating literature on: program evaluation; and PM. The analysis could provide useful insights also from a professional perspective, by helping practitioners for a contextual assessment of strategic communication programs and activities.

Resumen
The study of context-based leadership practices has gained currency during the last decade. This study aims to complement the recent efforts of researchers in identifying the context-based leadership practices of successful school leaders, and deliberating how these practices are enacted within their own unique contexts. An in-depth case study was conducted in a successful school in northern Malaysia using a combination of case study methods and grounded theory. Case study methods were used for data collection from multiple sources, employing a semi-structured interview protocol derived from the one used in several studies conducted under the International Successful School Principalship Project. The findings of the case study reveal that strong interpersonal skills, people-centered leadership, clear communication of vision and goal, focus on academic achievement, co-curricular activities, developing people and creating a positive work environment are all vital constituents of successful leadership. The findings will attempt to add to the scant literature on context-based leadership practices from Malaysia. Implications for practice can be drawn for policymakers, who must resist overreliance on borrowed leadership models, while practitioners need to prioritize their practices based upon the contextual requirements to succeed.

Resumen
National culture is frequently used as the dominant influential factor when intercultural business communication differences are explained. Leaning on theories about other contextual factors from the field of pragmatics, a dataset containing metapragmatic comments from interviews with forty-one Japanese and Norwegian business executives has been analysed in order to find what contextual factors are believed to influence Japanese and Norwegian communication with special attention to degree of directness and formality. The analysis indicates that the claim that the Japanese are less direct and more formal than Scandinavians (Norwegians) is highly dependent on contextual factors such as power, distance, the number of participants, message content, interactional/social roles, activity type, individual and organisation variation, language, the interlocutors’ expectations, and business tactics. National culture as the sole explanatory factor is only used to a limited extent. Thus, a one-sided focus on national culture as the main contextual factor in intercultural communication should be cautioned and alternative approaches found.

Abstract The translator’s role and responsibility are high in any act of interlingual communication, and even higher when irony, an indirect and deliberately elusive form of communication, is involved in the translation process. By allowing more than one possible interpretation, irony is inevitably exposed to the risk of being misunderstood. This paper attempts to capture the complexity of translating irony, making use of theoretical frameworks provided by literary studies and translation studies. It analyses if and how the types of irony, the literary genres and the cultural, normative factors, perceived as potential contextual constraints, have an impact on the translator’ choices in rendering irony in translation, taking illustrative examples from Jonathan Swift, Oscar Wilde, Aldous Huxley and David Lodge’s works.

Resumen
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Number Head Together (NHT) learning model with a Contextual approach to describe the mathematical communication skills of class VIII students based on Self Confidence. The method used in this study is a mixed method. Data was collected through tests, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that (1) the NHT learning model was more effective on mathematical communication skills which could be seen from the results of the experimental class mathematical communication ability test which was greater than the control class, (2) The pattern of mathematical communication skills in terms of Self Confidence varied. Of the 31 students there are students who fall into the less positive, positive and very positive categories. Therefore, this research can be an alternative in learning mathematics, especially the use of contextual approaches and mathematical communication skills that can be applied in learning with the NHT and Self Confidence models of students. Resumen
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to make a case for contextual interpretivism in managing diversity in organizational settings, specifically in its bearing on internal communication, going against the dominating functionalistic stance of venerated and ubiquitous approaches. Design/methodology/approach – Qualitative and quantitative methodologies were employed to explore the potential of contextual interpretivism within the mining and construction industries of South Africa, due to the fecund diversity context of its employee population. Findings – This paper points to the enriched understanding that could result from following a contextual interpretivistic approach to internal communication for diversity management, and in so doing discusses the ways in which this could take hold in organizations through the application of germane theoretical assertions of revered internal organizational communication literature, specifically the excellence theory and communication satisfaction. Research limitations/implications – The main limitation to this research is the restricted generalizability of its empirical research. Further research is required for the exploration of the central premise in other organizational contexts. Practical implications – The paper provides insights into the ways in which organizations could approach its diversity management so as to speak to more than just the functional aspects thereof, and rather to the importance of nurturing an understanding of employees’ interpretation of the organization’s diversity endeavors. Originality/value – The implications of applying a new approach to diversity management in organizational settings is discussed and argued, offering an empirical application thereof, which gives way to practical, data-driven recommendations for use in organizational settings.

Resumen
The phenomena of indirect communication (namely contextual-situational indirect speech acts) which are typical for the situations of the Russians’ everyday communication: situations of addressing, attention attracting; acquaintance; greeting; farewell; congratulation; wish; gratitude; apology; request; consent, permission; disagreement, objection, refusal; invitation; offer; council; consolation, sympathy, condolence; compliment, approval, praise have been described in this paper. Direct and conventional indirect speech acts, realizing the aforementioned intensions, have been specified from the speech etiquette point of view. The system research of indirect, contextual-situational oblique speech acts in the given situations of communication has not been practically carried out. Considering the cooperativity zone (zone of communicators’ benevolent relations), the author has picked out and described the main types of contextual-situational indirect speech acts (including hints and manipulation; syncretic and transposed forms), demonstrated their combinatory peculiarities in the structure of indirect speech genres. Creation of typology related to contextual- situational indirect speech acts (as well as other phenomena of indirect communication) in cooperative situations of the Russians’ everyday communication makes a certain contribution to the development of indirect communication theory and has also a culturological value. The use of given research results can be valuable both for further study of everyday converse, cross-cultural communication, speech genres, speech etiquette and in practical activities of teachers who are taking up the problems of communication and language teaching (including Russian as a foreign language). The ability related to indirect realization of communicative meanings, their operation and correct decoding promotes effective com- munication and is necessary for comprehension and interpretation of texts from fiction and publicistic literature, as well as for translation activities.

Resumen
The communicative dimension of corporate social responsibility has been identified as a ‘double edged sword’ for companies. Although prior literature recognises the value of communication in CSR implementation, there are also established complexities in how to make CSR actions known and recognised by stakeholders. This study explores the seeming challenges encountered by a multinational CSR frontrunner in Ghana in communicating social responsibility activities to its stakeholders. The qualitative study focused on semi-structured interviews with CSR communication managers and other key stakeholders in the company who have in-depth knowledge about CSR. The empirical results demonstrate that unique contextual conditions are major sources of complexities and tensions in CSR communication. Findings revealed key CSR communication challenges including cost of communicating CSR, ‘cash cow’ perceptions of multinational companies, high stakeholder expectations and demands for CSR initiatives, and intransigent media landscape. The literature suggests that there is sparse research that examines specific challenges in communicating corporate responsibility. The study therefore advances the CSR communication scholarship by providing insights into unique challenges faced by multinational companies in host countries, particularly within a sub-Saharan African context, Ghana, along with the strategies adopted to overcome the challenges. Being cognisance of how cultural diversity and local situations influence communications about CSR can provide both theoretical and practical implications for researchers and practitioners.

Resumen
We study the problem of federated contextual combinatorial cascading bandits, where agents collaborate under the coordination of a central server to provide tailored recommendations to users. Existing works consider either a synchronous framework, necessitating full agent participation and global synchronization, or assume user homogeneity with identical behaviors. We overcome these limitations by considering (1) federated agents operating in an asynchronous communication paradigm, where no mandatory synchronization is required and all agents communicate independently with the server, (2) heterogeneous user behaviors, where users can be stratified into latent user clusters, each exhibiting distinct preferences. For this setting, we propose a UCB-type algorithm with delicate communication protocols. Through theoretical analysis, we give sub-linear regret bounds on par with those achieved in the synchronous framework, while incurring only logarithmic communication costs. Empirical evaluation on synthetic and real-world datasets validates our algorithm's superior performance in terms of regrets and communication costs.

Resumen
In this paper I argue that the epistemology of trust and testimony should take into account the pragmatics of communication in order to gain insight about the responsibilities speakers and hearers share in the epistemic access they gain through communication. Communication is a rich process of information exchange in which epistemic standards are negotiated by interlocutors. I discuss examples which show the contextual adjustment of these standards as the conversation goes on. Our sensitivity to the contextual dimension of epistemic standards make us more responsible communicators.

Resumen
Personalization, or the tailoring of content to meet users’ unique needs, is considered a desirable feature of digital media, particularly websites, because it results in content that is highly relevant to the user. However, it is not always possible to provide personally relevant content. Under such circumstances, the best that a system can do is provide contextually relevant peripheral content (e.g., ads) based on the topic of the main content (e.g., search-engine output). This raises an important question: Does context relevance have the same positive effects on user perceptions of websites as personal relevance? If context relevance can indeed make up for the lack of personalization, then boosting it via ad content on the site should serve to enhance appeal even when the main content is not personalized. Using a 2 × 2 factorial experiment (N = 60), we investigated whether perceptions of a website and the ads themselves varied as a function of the presence of personalized site content and ad relevance to website context. Results indicate that personal relevance and context relevance are fungible in contributing to user attitudes toward the site. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Resumen
It is prudent to take a unified approach to exploring how contextual social determinants of health (SDoH) relate to COVID-19 occurrence and outcomes. Poor geographically represented data and a small number of contextual SDoH examined in most previous research studies have left a knowledge gap in the relationships between contextual SDoH and COVID-19 outcomes. In this study, we linked 199 contextual SDoH factors covering 11 domains of social and built environments with electronic health records (EHRs) from a large clinical research network (CRN) in the National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network (PCORnet) to explore the relation between contextual SDoH and COVID-19 occurrence and hospitalization. We identified 15,890 COVID-19 patients and 63,560 matched non-COVID-19 patients in Florida between January 2020 and May 2021. We adopted a two-phase multiple linear regression approach modified from that in the exposome-wide association (ExWAS) study. After removing the highly correlated SDoH variables, 86 contextual SDoH variables were included in the data analysis. Adjusting for race, ethnicity, and comorbidities, we found six contextual SDoH variables (i.e., hospital available beds and utilization, percent of vacant property, number of golf courses, and percent of minority) related to the occurrence of COVID-19, and three variables (i.e., farmers market, low access, and religion) related to the hospitalization of COVID-19. To our best knowledge, this is the first study to explore the relationship between contextual SDoH and COVID-19 occurrence and hospitalization using EHRs in a major PCORnet CRN. As an exploratory study, the causal effect of SDoH on COVID-19 outcomes will be evaluated in future studies.

Resumen
This research is motivated by the low mathematical communication ability of students in expressing ideas and relating the knowledge students have to real situations. This study aims to determine the contextual learning model influences students' mathematical communication ability better than the direct learning model. This research is a quasi-experimental research. The population of this study were all fourth grade students at SDN 050660 Kwala Bingai, Stabat, which consisted of three parallel classes with a total of 89 students. The sampling system used was cluster random sampling with classes IVA and IVB classes being sampled. Class IVA as the control class consisted of 30 students and class IVB as the experimental class consisted of 27 students. Data analysis was performed by two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that the contextual learning model had a better effect on students' mathematical communication abilities compared to the learning model. This shows that the contextual learning model provides a good change in developing students' mathematical communication ability.

Resumen
Emphasizing the cruciality of the communicative aspect of accounting, this research investigates the contextual setting within Kuwaiti banks’ earning conference Q&As and examines structural barriers that guide discourse but also hinder effective accounting communication. However, while prior accounting studies take the contextual structure of this discursive session for granted, this research uncovers and ultimately addresses the structural practices that hinder effective communication. The research employs a grounded theory approach and a content analysis method, via which it analyzes Kuwaiti banks’ quarterly earning conference transcripts (from 2018 to 2022) and reviews their annual reports. Four contextual barriers prevail: constraining accounting information users’ interactions by having textual enquiries in a verbal communication setting; ending the Q&As before reflecting on all accounting users’ concerns; having limited involvement from CEOs; and disregarding some language barriers. This research culminates in detailed recommendations for policy makers to enhance accounting communication.
