Texto completoThis research articulates the analysis of State constructed social representations of the father and the effect of apparently father-supportive public policies on individuals. In order to evaluate the impact of policies, namely the paternity register (livret de paternité), the paternity leave and the new ceremony of prenatal acknowledgement, I analysed the social practices of those targeted by these measures. I finally showed the dialectical articulation between a model of paternity underlying these measures, and the actual representations and practices of fathers

Texto completoThis thesis focuses on fathers who have stopped or cut down their professional activity to focus on raising their children. The heart of the research consists in a qualitative survey, based on interviews of fathers. I have also met their partners. The analysis led shows the relation between the decision made by those men with the other parameters of their life (family situation and family projects, academical and professional backgrounds, social origins, family history. . . ). It also shows how couples share and manage their professional, parental and household agendas. Confrontations between on one hand mens practices and theirs of their partners’, and on the other hand has parental role’s representations allow us to detect progress concerning gender equality but also logics of resistances which reinforce male and female respective characterïstics

Texto completoThis thesis focuses on how men become caregivers when they take a full time parental leave in France in the 2010s. It asks under which conditions fathers in a heterosexual relationship take a parental leave and how they are socialized while on leave.Based on an investigation mainly focused on interviews with fathers who took a full time educational parental leave and/or a full rate family benefit (the Complément de libre choix d’activité). A secondary investigation was made among other parents (also interviewed) : fathers on parental leave’s partners, mothers on parental leave, fathers who didn’t take parental leave and had children of preschool age, fathers on part time parental leave. The life paths of fathers on full time parental leave show that the leave-taking is mainly due to contextual factors, despite the impact of previous socializations. There is no single trajectory leading those men to take a parental leave, but rather a diversity of them. This diversity of paths affects leave time allocation between family, work-related and personal time. This diversity mustn’t hide a shared temporal socialization of men on parental leave (at least when they don’t use a full time childcare service). While on leave, parents learn or master skills and knowledge needed to be a caregiver. However, being a caregiver doesn’t mean the same responsibilities for mothers and fathers

Texto completoFamily policies in Europe have undergone significant changes in the last few decades, improving the well-being, functioning, and responsibilities of families with children. This thesis aims to investigate how paternity leave policies impact parental mental health as well as explore how Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) impacts children's socio-emotional development throughout childhood. The first article of this thesis examines the relationship between paternity leave uptake in France and mothers' and fathers' post-partum depression two months post-birth, using data from a nationally-representative birth cohort. Fathers who took paternity leave as well as fathers who intended to take paternity leave had lower odds of PPD compared to fathers who did not take paternity leave. Conversely, mothers whose partner took paternity leave had higher odds of PPD.The second article of this thesis explores the relationship between different types of ECEC attendance (centre-based childcare, informal childcare, and exclusive parental care) prior to primary school on children's internalizing and externalizing symptoms from 5-13 years across five European countries. The study found that children who attended centre-based childcare have slightly lower internalizing and externalizing symptoms between 7-13 years, but children who attended informal childcare had higher internalizing and externalizing symptoms between 7-13 years. This thesis highlights the importance of considering aspects such as mental health and children's development when developing family policies. Further research is needed to understand the effects of a longer paternity leave on mother's PPD. Additionally, policies that enhance access to affordable, subsidized centre-based childcare prior to primary school can be one step in improving children's socio-emotional development
Bubote, Eugène. "La paternalité Kongo en changement : l’exemple des pères migrants en France". Thesis, Bordeaux 2, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010BOR21757/document.
Texto completoThe object of our research is to observe the change which takes place in the Kongo’s fatherhood. The life of migrants in France is one of the situations which testify of these fathers’ reality. The sample of population is made of people coming from a mother bared society in Congo Brazzaville. These fathers currently live in a context in which they are confronted to the practice of a second culture, different from the first one. Adjustments prove to be necessary, in particular on the level of the three axes of the fatherhood (exercise, experience and practice). Collecting and analyzing the narratives which show their positioning with their children make it possible to locate the capacities of the fathers to establish bonds with the last subjective experience of their own childhood or other events of their history marked by separations particularly the migratory event. Theoretical approaches turned towards anthropology, interculturaly and psychology adequately back up our study. The clinical, the thematic and the textual analysis of the data collected have enabled us to give an objective validity to our hypotheses
