Texto completoIn a confrontational climate marked by an unprecedented warlike evolution, the UN Security Council is struggling to impose peace in Iraq, Syria and Libya. The Middle East traces the incompatibilities and inadequacies that international law faces. For nearly two decades, the chronic instability has gradually taken hold of our three-case analysis to deliver an elusive transnational terrorism. Its indefiniteness is complex to encompass the aspirations of every layer of society, but even more so the intrusion of third states into internal practice.Observe the decline of Iraq, Syria and Libya is to adopt a wide angle of view to recognize the transition of these formerly rogue states to the advent of their bankruptcies. Western interventionism is consubstantial, we can refer to the illegal 2003 intervention in Iraq, but other factors come protean increase the security failure of the mentioned states.Indeed, the census of conflicts in Iraq, Syria and Libya demonstrates an asymmetrical practice naively opposing the weak to the strong. However, the observed asymmetry is drowning in the meanders of a regional interventionist and warmongering practice. In other words, the proxy struggle of the various regional and international blocs takes the form of an asymmetrical opposition without recognizing the substance. In addition, the asymmetrical conflictuality in Iraq, Syria and Libya is only the praise of contemporary Realpolitik, where the non-state actor becomes the instrument of a regal power. In this world where the drift is customary, where the UN system seems fragmented, it emerges a grid of neuralgic analysis to the full capture of the contemporary stakes in the Middle East: the politico-legal approach

Texto completoThe main purpose of this thesis is to study, peace negotiations between Lebanon,Syria and Israel from 1991 to 2000, via their coverage in two Lebanese news papers An-Naharand As-Safir. This was a tense period in the recent history of Lebanon; it was marked by thepolitical influence of Syria on Lebanon, and a strategic period during which the peace processbetween Israel and Arab countries began. It consists primarily in an analysis of the changingnature of the coverage and discourse of two major Lebanese daily newspapers - An-Nahar andAs-Safir. The “copy” here analyzed related to a sensitive geopolitical issue affecting Lebanese independence and relations between Syria and Israel. The survey spans à decade: it is limited to front-page coverage of each newspaper. In order to examine the subject scientifically, aspecific software was specially designed and developed for this purpose. A matrix fororganizing and analyzing textual information and media production was devised. First thestudy was affected horizontally, in order to compare various actors and their related newspaper coverage. Then the study was elaborated in a vertical manner, i.e. by handlingeach newspaper and each author separately, in order to establish the evolution of different discourse. This was achieved by cross-comparing differences and similarities in the discourse, and constants and variables over time

Texto completoAt a time when population concentration in urban spaces is increasing and cities continue to grow into huge urbanised areas, issues related to management planning for these “ new ” territories is of interest. Such spaces which undergo deep mutations give rise to new stakes and challenges for territorial planning. Occasionally, due to lack of compatibility between the respective actors’ standpoints with respect to high stakes arising from divergent interests, conflicts emerge. Indeed, conflicts that originate from a territorial project are no longer the exception. This thesis strives to better understand the relationships that bind together territorial specificities and the dynamics of conflict activity in terms of its spatial frequency, duration and intensity. The current work uses a quantitative procedure that seeks to understand conflict dynamics by means of a spatial approach. The basis of this research is a database made up of conflicts which occurred in Quebec City over the period from 1989 to 2000. The 199 conflicts considered herein have been collected from the regional press (the newspaper daily Le Soleil). The conceptual framework proposed addresses the conflict through the prism of territorial decision-making processes. We also join in the territorial decision is geographic spaces: action space, consequences space and stakeholders’ space. It is through these spaces and, more particularly throught the stakeholders’ one that a spatial representation of conflict activity is made possible. Statistical analysis indicated that (1) the tendency of individuals to regroup around local associations and community organisations along with their ability to make their voices heard, as (2) the nature of the social composition seemed to be fundamental components both of the emergence and unravelling of the protesters’ approach. The study of the effects of local contexts suggests that conflicts are longer though not necessarily more intense or more frequent in the area where (1) the ability of individuals to come together and take the floor is moderate and (2) the population is both the most easily mobilizable and the better off at the regional level. We believe that these are the conditions that lead to a conflict activity with long duration, ie individuals with time and resources, but not well equipped in terms of action strategies in times of conflict activity.

Texto completoDuring the last decade, the political use of the Internet and Social Network Sites (SNS) has tremendously increased. Using networks such as Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Skype, Instagram, etc., has become a must for both political actors and ordinary citizens. Using as a framework the Syrian crisis in 2011, this research will follow the evolution of the political use of SNS in addition to the logics of mobilization and the production of the political speech in these networks. Through the analysis of the Facebook Page the Syrian Revolution 2011, it will question the possibilities that these SNS provide to the users to create mobilizations spaces and collective interaction. Our analysis covered two periods of time: the first one from January 18th to March 14th 2011, and the second from March 15th to April 30th 2011. This will help us better understand the change from one operational mode to another based on the change of the political context and on the degradation of the dramatic situation in Syria. Our research questions the place of the political discussion online and its parts on the creation of collective actions frames. It shows that these frames are activated, adopted and spread in ways that are specific to the social and technical practices provided by the SNS. From this perspective, we hope that our study can bring an original contribution in the analysis of the SNS field. It shows how these networks can be an area for mobilization of information that would help users develops various communication practices

Texto completoAs an overlooked piece of Peru’s nation building process, the High Marañón region was mainly populated by indigenous, Awajún and Wampís populations until it was designated a Christian mission land in the middle of the XXth century. This Amazonian territory, located on the northeastern part of the country on the border with Ecuador, has been in diplomatic dispute since the early republican era. As a result, it became the focus of projects whose aim was to integrate the High Marañón into the nation and whose outcome was a number of new phenomena such as a process of “internal colonization” by peasants of mixed race, a series of subsoil explorations for mining extraction, and the institutionalization of activities related to education and health. From a forlorn land made invisible by the limitations of peruvian state apparatus, the High Marañón region became a battleground in the progression of global dynamics. This research aims to narrate the history of the “encounter” of two cultural areas, the indigenous one and the global one, from the arrival of the Jesuit mission in 1946 to the Baguazo event, so-Named after a bloody conflict between indigenous activists and police forces in the city of Bagua which took place in 2009. This research demonstrates that far from limiting itself to a mere absorption of a margin by a nation, this encounter has aroused the interest of Peruvian civil society, and partially called into question the historical nation-Building paradigm, in which socio-Racially biased logics have thusfar prevailed
