Resumen
Most psychology departments offer field placements that allow undergraduates to learn practical skills and test career options. The psychology curriculum should encourage community service placements because they are consistent with psychology's values, good for students, and beneficial to the community. To close the acknowledged gap between good intentions and volunteer action, our department has developed two models of community service: elementary school tutoring within a child psychology course and credit for individual placements in a variety of settings. We describe procedures followed, decisions made, and lessons learned in setting up these courses. Student testimony about the value of these experiences is offered. Encouraging volunteerism is well worth the effort of psychology departments.

Resumen
Codes of ethics have been found inadequate for community psychology because of the emphasis on the relationship between the professional and individual clients rather than on the relationship with the community. Explicit value statements and guidelines for resolving dilemmas of conflicting views are often lacking. For purposes of discussion, possible revisions of the preamble and the major principles of the codes of ethics of the American and Canadian Psychological Associations are presented. Vignettes of ethical dilemmas in community psychology and an approach to decision making are also provided. Community psychologists are urged to develop more definitive guidelines.

Resumen
Thirty two years after Gillham (1978) and as the profession of educational psychology finally embraces the principles ofcommunity psychology (Bender, 1976; Orford, 1992, 2008) a model of leadership has emerged that has the potential to support educational psychology services make the shift to ‘community educational psychology practice’ that truly represents the breadth and range of work undertaken by educational psychologists. This article argues that a community-based ethical model of leadership could provide our profession with a framework for reflecting on the vision that will accompany the challenge of bringing the reconstructing era to a positive conclusion (positive identity and distinctive role) for the 21st century within an era of austerity, high level accountability, and a redistribution of limited resources towards community enablement.

Resumen
This paper seeks to reassert the foundation of educational psychology as community psychology. It argues that the historical continuity of the profession and its pioneering aims can only be achieved by embracing this community vision, and that there can be no future for educational psychology within the narrow boundaries of special educational needs and the servicing of bureaucratic educational functions. It asserts that the needs inspiring the ideals of community psychology are greater than they were previously but that the achievement of these ideals is further removed from the profession than ever. However, it also highlights developments within educational psychology in Britain that herald a reaffirmation of the profession as making a holistic contribution within the settings of home, school and community, and argues that it is time to combine evidence-based practice with a commitment to values in science, to pursue a meaningful and broad agenda of social and psychological welfare and to establish educational psychology as a true community psychology.
