Resumen
AbstractThis study’s purpose is to capture the skills of Earth science data managers and librarians through interviews with current job holders. Job analysis interviews were conducted of 14 participants—six librarians and eight data managers—to assess the types and frequencies of job tasks. Participants identified tasks related to communication, including collaboration, teaching, and project management activities. Data-specific tasks included data discovery, processing, and curation, which require an understanding of the data, technology, and information infrastructures to support data use, reuse, and preservation. Most respondents had formal science education and six had a master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences. Most of the knowledge, skills, and abilities for these workers were acquired through on-the-job experience, but future professionals in these careers may benefit from tailored education informed through job analyses.

Resumen
We generalize the bulk-synchronous parallel (BSP) processing model to make it better support agent-based simulations. Such simulations frequently exhibit hierarchical structure in their communication patterns which can be exploited to improve performance. We allow for the creation of temporary artificial network partitions during which agents synchronize only locally within their group in a way that does not compromise the correctness of a simulation. We have built a distributed engine, CloudCity, which uses this idea to improve the locality of computation, communication, and synchronization in such simulations. We experimentally evaluate the performance of our system on a benchmark of simulation workloads and compare it against other popular BSP-like systems, obtaining insights into the impact of various system design choices and optimization on simulation engine performance.

Resumen
We live in a time of rapid growth of information technology, which is firmly entrenched in our daily lives. It is simply impossible to imagine a modern person without social networks, because they perform a communicative and informational function, namely: communication, information retrieval, news exchange, etc. Five hundred million tweets are posted daily, making Twitter a major social media platform from which topical information on events can be extracted. So, there is a lot of information available to the user, which is difficult to identify something specific and necessary in the usual way viewing. Accordingly, there is a need for technologies that can quickly process large amounts of data and highlight only the information that is useful to a particular user. This technology called recommender systems. It automatically suggest items to users that might be interesting for them. Due to the desire to unite people with common interests, it is relevant to develop a recommendation system based on social networks that help in personification of the user and compilation of his psychotype using his profile. The paper has description and results of the creation of recommendation system. The basis of this work is one of the algorithms used in recommendation systems – the recommendation system is based on content filtering. It analyzes users’ Twitter posts and calculates their interests. If we consider all the words, our model will not have good results and do not pay attention to what is important to use. Therefore, the most important step is always filtering data, so the number one task is to speed up the time of filtering text and retrieving data from the social network for further processing. The feature of this system is that this algorithm uses parallel calculations and frequency analysis of the text.

Resumen
The performance of operating systems like computers requires the proper functioning of the computer language interpreter. This interpreter follows various types of programming languages that make the performing of computer programming easy and effective. The application of the programming language of Java helps in processing multiple tasks at once. This research analyzes the novelty of Java-based data communication models in advanced computing services. This performance makes the saving of the resources used for the development of the programming language. All these development includes the performing of the multiple threads communication data processing. These multiple threads help distribute the single processed input in the multi-channel language processing, thus helping the work competition in time. It also reduces the cost of maintaining the programming languages reduced. Thus, the implementing cost of resources required for programming performance is reduced. Therefore, this implementation impacts the programmer to become more indented to use the language transformation process of Java. Moreover, it creates a more effective representation of the audio or visual content represented by a multi-tasking operating system. In this process of development in the language transformation of the operating system, the ability of the operating system for data processing improves. The systematic process of this language transformation helps in systematically transforming multiple programs at once.

Resumen
The paper sheds light on big data analytics, the science of machine learning viz. data science and how it can be used in today’s automobile industry. Data science is a new field that has emerged out of the coupling of computer science and statistics. The ‘what?’ and ‘how?’ of data sciences are explained thoroughly. After defining what Big Data and Data Science are, the job market of data science is explored. This includes the jobs data scientists undertake and the skills acquired by them viz. machine learning and natural language processing to find patterns in this data and make predictions. Furthermore, the future of big data analytics in manufacturing and production is analyzed, particularly in connected vehicular systems. Today, with the advancement of technology, much media attention has been focused on an area where big data and automobiles intersect: Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication collectively referred to as Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication. This paper focuses primarily on data science in driverless cars and the advent of Internet of Things (IoT) in automobile technology.

Resumen
In the mining industry, smart surveying and exploration operations for the minerals are essential during mining missions. Usually, these missions are performed in remote areas that do not have a wireless communications infrastructure. This paper proposes to use the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as a relay communication node between the exploration team and the ground control station (GCs). UAV can act as a relay node to provide mobile, flexible, and reliable communication links in remote environments and complex topologies. In this work, the pathloss models in millimeter-wave technology are considered because they provide massive data rates for line of sight scenarios. The optimization problem of identifying a 3D location and trajectory of the UAV relay node is formulated to maximize the total team members’ data rate. Because the problem is non-convex, the particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve it and determine an efficient location and trajectory of the UAV.

Resumen
From the standpoint of visual elements, this article investigates the use of visual information technology in visual communication design. At this time, information visualization and data visualization are widely used to display visual form, which greatly facilitates people’s use, provides a solid application foundation for visual communication design, and promotes its development. The image presentation of data is a common encoding process, and the reading of image content is the corresponding decoding process from the perspective of encoding and decoding. The combined efficacy of data encoding and image decoding determines the effectiveness of data visualization. It is worth noting that when it comes to “encoding and decoding,” it has been established that the design mode of data visualization and visual communication is not a process of copying images but rather an external form of human thought. Then, there is the unmistakable presence of something unseen in the encoding and decoding processes. It also serves as the encoding and decoding key in the human brain. The image is as follows. From the standpoint of encoding and decoding, this article employs the data visualization self-encoder method to obtain visual data. Design pattern representation for perceptual communication can effectively support users’ rapid motion analysis during the browsing process.

Resumen
Background. The need to use permutation decoding tools in radio communication systems is explained by the increased error correction capabilities of this method. In this case, complex matrix calculations during the search for equivalent codes according to the classical scheme of permutation decoding are replaced by a list of ready-made solutions. These solutions are calculated a priori and entered into the cognitive cards of the decoder processor, which makes the method a convenient tool in the procedure for ensuring information reliability when controlling, for example, unmanned vehicles via radio channels. In fact, matrix calculations on board are replaced by searching the list of cognitive maps for the right solution corresponding in real time to the current permutation of reliable character numerators. However, data processing in the decoder’s cognitive map requires a special description. Aim. The study of methods for identifying permutations of character numerators of code vectors in order to effectively transform them in a system of cognitive maps of a permutation decoder. Methods. The paper reveals the subtle structure of cognitive maps of productive and unproductive permutations of numerators, which allows on a regular basis to obtain an alternative solution for switching to a set of productive permutations when the receiver receives an unproductive permutation, thereby excluding the use of trial and error. Results. The efficiency of the permutation decoder increases due to the implementation of permutations that were originally included in a set of solutions introduced into the cognitive map of unproductive permutations. Conclusion. A family of microcontrollers is proposed to implement the principle of interaction of cognitive maps with a system of alternative solutions.

Resumen
This study suggests one direction of theoretical and methodological coupling of communication research with the digital trace data, utilizing its differences from the traditional social science approach (e.g., sampling vs. population, normal distribution vs. power–law distribution, generalization vs. simulation, deductive vs. inductive, and perceived vs. actual). We propose specific examples of (i) combining communication research with trace data methodologically and theoretically; (ii) collaborating with linguistic psychology complemented with the automated content analysis and natural language processing techniques; and (iii) creating new theoretical inquiries by configuring the granular level of interactivity and underlying dynamics, observing the longitudinal change of interactions, and discovering the neglected presence of outliers and the invisibles. We expect the direction suggested by this study contributes to deepening our understanding of human communication behavior.

Resumen
Processing-in-memory (PIM), where the compute is moved closer to the memory or the data, has been widely explored to accelerate emerging workloads. Recently, different PIM-based systems have been announced by memory vendors to minimize data movement and improve performance as well as energy efficiency. One critical component of PIM is the large amount of compute parallelism provided across many PIM "nodes'' or the compute units near the memory. In this work, we provide an extensive evaluation and analysis of real PIM systems based on UPMEM PIM. We show that while there are benefits of PIM, there are also scalability challenges and limitations as the number of PIM nodes increases. In particular, we show how collective communications that are commonly found in many kernels/workloads can be problematic for PIM systems. To evaluate the impact of collective communication in PIM architectures, we provide an in-depth analysis of two workloads on the UPMEM PIM system that utilize representative common collective communication patterns -- AllReduce and All-to-All communication. Specifically, we evaluate 1) embedding tables that are commonly used in recommendation systems that require AllReduce and 2) the Number Theoretic Transform (NTT) kernel which is a critical component of Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) that requires All-to-All communication. We analyze the performance benefits of these workloads and show how they can be efficiently mapped to the PIM architecture through alternative data partitioning. However, since each PIM compute unit can only access its local memory, when communication is necessary between PIM nodes (or remote data is needed), communication between the compute units must be done through the host CPU, thereby severely hampering application performance. To increase the scalability (or applicability) of PIM to future workloads, we make the case for how future PIM architectures need efficient communication or interconnection networks between the PIM nodes that require both hardware and software support.

To improve the marketing activity and brand management and justify the most effective marketing decisions, organizations should implement different information technologies, mathematical methods and models into the marketing decision support system (MDSS). The goal of this paper is to form an architecture of an MDSS, the model base of which is developed on Data Science tools, in particular regression analysis and machine learning methods. The proposed MDSS is a multi-agent information system comprising nine intellectual agents (market environment monitoring, data processing, marketing mix modeling, price policy support, portfolio management, strategic analysis, forecasting, customer segmentation, and customer classification). The functionality of these agents is realized through Data Science, which allows for the optimization of marketing activities (e.g., an effective brand management strategy and its elements (portfolio strategy, price policy, and media strategy) or solving the problems of attracting new and retaining current customers with the maximal return on marketing investments). The MDSS analyzes the marketing environment, media activity, and business indicators by constructing different models and forecasting various combinations of marketing factors to select the best one. The joint work of MDSS agents provides decision-makers with interactive reports. The research findings offer a scientific basis for making effective marketing decisions based on data, and the proposed MDSS can become part of an intelligent system for planning marketing activities.

ABSTRACTThis study addresses the need for a shared understanding of humanities data to enhance data curation. Through interviews with 27 scholars, it identifies two ways scholars conceptualize data ‐ by format or role in research. It highlights three unique aspects: diverse requirements of materiality and processing levels, significance of authorship and perspective, and the dual role of tertiary sources. The study suggests prioritizing provenance, facilitating data documentation, curating tertiary sources for wider use, and establishing scholarly communication mechanisms for effective data curation.

Resumen
Optimizing scheduling and communication of distributed data processing for resource and data characteristics is crucial for achieving high performance. Existing approaches to such optimizations largely fall into two categories. First, distributed runtimes provide low-level policy interfaces to apply the optimizations, but do not ensure the maintenance of correct application semantics and thus often require significant effort to use. Second, policy interfaces that extend a high-level application programming model ensure correctness, but do not provide sufficient fine control. We describe Apache Nemo, an optimization framework for distributed dataflow processing that provides fine control for high performance and also ensures correctness for ease of use. We combine several techniques to achieve this, including an intermediate representation of dataflow, compiler optimization passes, and runtime extensions. Our evaluation results show that Nemo enables composable and reusable optimizations that bring performance improvements on par with existing specialized runtimes tailored for a specific deployment scenario. Apache Nemo is open-sourced at https://nemo.apache.org as an Apache incubator project.

Resumen
The capacity to understand and control one’s personal data is now a crucial part of living in contemporary society. In this sense, traditional concerns over supporting the development of ‘digital literacy’ are now being usurped by concerns over citizens’ ‘data literacies’. In contrast to recent data safety and data science approaches, this article argues for a more critical form of ‘personal data literacies’ where digital data are understood as socially situated and context dependent. Drawing on the critical literacies tradition, the article outlines a range of salient socio-technical understandings of personal data generation and processing. Specifically, the article proposes a framework of ‘Personal Data Literacies’ that distinguishes five significant domains: (1) Data Identification, (2) Data Understandings, (3) Data Reflexivity, (4) Data Uses, and (5) Data Tactics. The article concludes by outlining the implications of this framework for future education and research around the area of individuals’ understandings of personal data.

Resumen
Although parallel computing is used in the existing numerical solutions ofN-body problem, tons of communications betweenNparticles render the parallel efficiency extremely low. Despite the fact that domain decomposition based on short-range interaction is used, whenNis exceedingly large and lots of communications exist between particles in adjacent areas, the parallel efficiency remains terribly low. This paper puts forward adjacent zero communication parallel cloud computing method forN-body problem with short-range interaction domain decomposition. According to this method, the adjacent subblock data are exchanged and redundantly stored without acquiring data from other subblocks in the parallel processing, so the waiting time for data transmission can be saved and hence the parallel processing efficiency can be enhanced substantially.

Resumen
In 2003, the Romanian National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology inaugurated National Integrated Meteorological System (SIMIN), consisting of a network of stations and instruments for measurement and detection of hydro and meteorological data, a specialized communication network, a forecasting network, and a dissemination network. With a setup cost of $55 million and a national priority role, SIMIN (implemented by Lockheed Martin) is relatively black boxed even today, using proprietary technology and software. Few institutions have direct access to the data it provides. In this paper, we present the design of a web-based software application built on open source software that allows easy access to and processing of data available in SIMIN.

Resumen
An important role of display visual design is advertising and advertising communication, which is an integrated medium, that is, a medium for communicating information. Visual communication design is the most direct way of information transmission in modern society. In today’s increasingly complex and diversified information, visual communication design has been more and more widely used in terms of form and function. On the display platform, the use of visual elements and the expression of visual communication design allows us to examine the different spatial experiences that visual communication design brings to people from a new perspective and adjust the way it is communicated, so as to find a scientific expression. This paper focused on the role of visual communication in display design and discussed its specific application in display design. The use of visual elements in the display space provides a new visual platform for spatial information, making the space design more connotative and cultural. For the smooth experience of media fusion design, it is necessary to ensure that information can be transmitted quickly and smoothly in every link of its processing. In the data write throughput experiment of the microperceptual data layer, the maximum write speed increased by 85.2% compared with the direct write method using the TSBPS method. The findings demonstrated that the IOT-HSQM model’s strategy of first queuing and then segmentation writes may more effectively fulfill the demands of high bandwidth than straight data transmission to HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System).

Resumen
From 21st century, it is hard for traditional storage and algorithm to provide service with high quality because of big data of communication which grows rapidly. Thus, cloud computing technology with relatively low cost of hardware facilities is created. However, to guarantee the quality of service in the situation of the rapid growth of data volume, the energy consumption cost of cloud computing begins to exceed the hardware cost. In order to solve the problems mentioned above, this study briefly introduced the virtual machine and its energy consumption model in the mobile cloud environment, introduced the basic principle of the virtual machine migration strategy based on the artificial bee colony algorithm and then simulated the performance of processing strategy to big data of communication based on artificial bee colony algorithm in mobile cloud computing environment by CloudSim3.0 software, which was compared with the performance of two algorithms, resource management (RM) and genetic algorithm (GA). The results showed that the power consumption of the migration strategy based on the artificial bee colony algorithm was lower than the other two strategies, and there were fewer failed virtual machines under the same number of requests, which meant that the service quality was higher.

Resumen
Purpose Particularly in volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) business conditions, staff in supply chain management (SCM) look to real-time (RT) data processing to reduce uncertainties. However, based on the premise that data processing can be perfectly mastered, such expectations do not reflect reality. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether RT data processing reduces SCM uncertainties under real-world conditions. Design/methodology/approach Aiming to facilitate communication on the research question, a Delphi expert survey was conducted to identify challenges of RT data processing in SCM operations and to assess whether it does influence the reduction of SCM uncertainty. In total, 14 prospective statements concerning RT data processing in SCM operations were developed and evaluated by 68 SCM and data-science experts. Findings RT data processing was found to have an ambivalent influence on the reduction of SCM complexity and associated uncertainty. Analysis of the data collected from the study participants revealed a new type of uncertainty related to SCM data itself. Originality/value This paper discusses the challenges of gathering relevant, timely and accurate data sets in VUCA environments and creates awareness of the relationship between data-related uncertainty and SCM uncertainty. Thus, it provides valuable insights for practitioners and the basis for further research on this subject.

Resumen
Data security is the science of protecting data in information technology, including authentication, data encryption, data decryption, data recovery, and user protection. To protect data from unauthorized disclosure and modification, a secure algorithm should be used. Many techniques have been proposed to encrypt text to an image. Most past studies used RGB layers to encrypt text to an image. In this paper, a Text-to-Image Encryption-Decryption (TTIED) algorithm based on Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black (CMYK) mode is proposed to improve security, capacity, and processing time. The results show that the capacity increased from one to four times compared to RGB mode. Security was also improved due to a decrease in the probability of an adversary discovering keys. The processing time ranged between 0.001 ms (668 characters) and 31 s (25 million characters), depending on the length of the text. The compression rate for the encrypted file was decreased compared to WinRAR. In this study, Arabic and English texts were encrypted and decrypted.

With the continuous development of the times and the continuous development of science and technology, embedded technology is constantly improving and more and more innovative methods have broken the situation of traditional multimedia use and combined visual language with design models, which has promoted the development of culture and the development of science and technology. The purpose of this experiment is to design a new structure by combining it with an image processing system based on embedded technology. In the experiment, we will use the QT graphics interface to connect with another same system interface, according to the characteristics of embedded technology data and image processing, design a new interface model, make the image binary, and then use calculations to prove the new feasibility of the way. In this report, we showed some of the programming steps and fully explained the design and results of the model, but it took a long time. The result of the test is that the embedded technology has a long-term experimental value and application value because the system can process images in real time and collect and store data faster; the resolution of the obtained images is also higher, and less energy is lost.

Resumen
Cities are characterized by the presence of a dense population with a high potential for interactions between individuals of diverse backgrounds. They appear in parallel to the Neolithic revolution a few millennia ago. The advantages brought in terms of agglomeration for economy, innovation, social and cultural advancements have kept them as a major landmark in recent human history. There are many different aspects to study in urban systems from a scientific point of view, one can concentrate in demography and population evolution, mobility, economic output, land use and urban planning, home accessibility and real estate market, energy and water consumption, waste processing, health, education, integration of minorities, just to name a few. In the last decade, the introduction of communication and information technologies have enormously facilitated the collection of datasets on these and other questions, making possible a more quantitative approach to city science. All these topics have been addressed in many works in the literature, and we do not intend to offer here a systematic review. Instead, we will only provide a brief taste of some of these above-mentioned aspects, which could serve as an introduction to the collection ‘Cities as Complex Systems’. Such a non-systematic view will lead us to leave outside many relevant papers, and for this we must apologise.

Resumen
Compared to frequency bands below 6 GHz, 5G millimeter waves offer several advantages, including a large bandwidth, minimal null delay, and flexible null port configuration. To comprehend the channel characteristics of 5G millimeter-wave technology, conducting channel measurements on it is essential. Hence, to ensure precise 5G millimeter-wave channel measurements and facilitate channel modelling, this study recommends utilizing a phased array antenna-based method for the channel measurement. The experimental outcomes demonstrated that the shadow fading term of the actual measurement data follows a normal distribution in both line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight scenarios. Additionally, the K-S test confirms that all Boolean variables are equal to 1 and all numerical variables are greater than α. The line-of-sight scenario produces a logarithmic mean delay extension of –7.4 and a standard deviation of 0.12, based on actual measured data. Meanwhile, the 3GPP shows a logarithmic mean of –7.4 and a standard deviation of 0.15. In the non-line-of-sight scenario, the logarithmic mean delay extension is –7.3 with a standard deviation of 0.17, while the 3GPP produces a logarithmic mean of –7.4 and a standard deviation of 0.19. The data presented closely adheres to the 3GPP model. It is evident that the channel measurement method, proposed within the study, effectively measures the parameters within the delay domain. Concerning the prolonged pitch angle and azimuth angle ranges, they measure 14°–31° and 14°–29° in the line-of-sight situation, and 21°–33° and 19°–37° in the corresponding non-line-of-sight situation. Additionally, the logarithmic mean and standard deviation for both the pitch angle and azimuth angle in the line-of-sight scenario are 1.32 and 0.09, respectively. The logarithmic mean and standard deviation of the azimuth angle of arrival are 1.35 and 0.08, respectively. The above results show that the method proposed in the study enables the measurement of 5G millimeter-wave channels and is important for millimeter-wave channel modelling.

Resumen
The still widely used 4G networks are not able to adequately meet the constantly emerging new needs of users for mobile services. In their attempts to meet the needs and requests of subscribers, the operators faced a number of problems, namely: the lack of flexibility of communication networks, their complexity, and the increase and constant increase in the cost of operating communication networks. The technology of super-dense 5G networks allows to solve these problems and eliminate shortcomings to some extent, thus becoming a logical development of mobile communication networks. However, 5G, with all its advantages and development prospects, both within the framework of the network architecture and the variety of services provided, faces the problem of a large array of processed data, or rather their analysis – a method of data processing to improve the quality of service of 5G communication networks.

Resumen
Archival data processing consists of cleaning and formatting data between the moment a dataset is deposited and its publication on the archive’s website. In this article, I approach data processing by combining scholarship on invisible labor in knowledge infrastructures with a Marxian framework and show the relevance of considering data processing as factory labor. Using this perspective to analyze ethnographic data collected during a six-month participatory observation at a U.S. data archive, I generate a taxonomy of the forms of alienation that data processing generates, but also the types of resistance that processors develop, across four categories: routine, speed, skill, and meaning. This synthetic approach demonstrates, first, that data processing reproduces typical forms of factory worker’s alienation: processors are asked to work along a strict standardized pipeline, at a fast pace, without acquiring substantive skills or having a meaningful involvement in their work. It reveals, second, how data processors resist the alienating nature of this workflow by developing multiple tactics along the same four categories. Seen through this dual lens, data processors are therefore not only invisible workers, but also factory workers who follow and subvert a workflow organized as an assembly line. I conclude by proposing a four-step framework to better value the social contribution of data workers beyond the archive.

Resumen
Purpose As increasing amounts and types of speech data become accessible, health care and technology industries increasingly demand quantitative insight into speech content. The potential for speech data to provide insight into cognitive, affective, and psychological health states and behavior crucially depends on the ability to integrate speech data into the scientific process. Current engineering methods for acquiring, analyzing, and modeling speech data present the opportunity to integrate speech data into the scientific process. Additionally, machine learning systems recognize patterns in data that can facilitate hypothesis generation, data analysis, and statistical modeling. The goals of the present article are (a) to review developments across these domains that have allowed real-time magnetic resonance imaging to shed light on aspects of atypical speech articulation; (b) in a parallel vein, to discuss how advancements in signal processing have allowed for an improved understanding of communication markers associated with autism spectrum disorder; and (c) to highlight the clinical significance and implications of the application of these technological advancements to each of these areas. Conclusion The collaboration of engineers, speech scientists, and clinicians has resulted in (a) the development of biologically inspired technology that has been proven useful for both small- and large-scale analyses, (b) a deepened practical and theoretical understanding of both typical and impaired speech production, and (c) the establishment and enhancement of diagnostic and therapeutic tools, all having far-reaching, interdisciplinary significance. Resumen
Abstract. In spite of significant progress in the development of new devices for magnetic measurements, mathematical and computational technologies for data processing and means of communication, the quality of magnetic data accessible through the data centres (for example, World Data Centres or INTERMAGNET) still largely depends on the actual conditions in which observation of the Earth's magnetic field is performed at observatories. Processing of raw data of magnetic measurements by observatory staff plays an important role. It includes effective identification of noise and elimination of its influence on final data. In this paper, on the basis of the experience gained during long-term magnetic monitoring carried out at the observatories of IKIR FEB RAS (Russia) and CSIR-NGRI (India), we present a review of methods commonly encountered in actual practice for noise identification and the possibility of reducing noise influence.

Resumen
Science learning should involve the use of active representation as a medium of communication between teachers and students. This is because representation becomes a medium of communication in the processing of science concepts provided by teachers, and the abilities produced by students themselves during science learning. This study aims to explain class discourse in science learning at SMPN 1 Jetis, based on the focus of discussing the relationship between knowledge representation, and communication patterns. The instruments in this study are questionnaires, and representation ability tests. The data obtained is tabulated in Microsoft Excel, then it is analyzed descriptively. The results showed that science learning at SMPN 1 Jetis was mediated with three types of existing representations, namely active, iconic, and symbolic alternately and simultaneously. The representation ability of students of SMPN 1 Jetis during the learning of the concept of material pressure, reached a score of 81.25 in the category of excellent representation ability; and 2) the shift of the three patterns of combination of representations that exist in science learning at SMPN 1 Jetis directs learning to dialogical, and authoritative communication patterns.

Resumen
Visual Communication Design is one of the design sciences that studies graphic processing procedures to convey messages visually. Visual Communication Design is also a major in tertiary institutions, both public and private. In Indonesia itself, the term DKV was popular in the 80s where DKV was popularized by Gert Dumbar. The aim this research is to find out whether PAR research can be used in the science of Visual Communication Design by giving examples of the application of PAR research in the science of Visual Communication Design. Like other lecture majors that are closely related to research, Visual Communication Design has many choices of research methods that can be used to research and design. One of the research methods that can be used in the science of Visual Communication Design is applied research or Participatory Action Research (PAR). This research is one of the qualitative research methods in which this research involves participation in its implementation. When Visual Communication Design is associated with Applied Research, the question arises whether Applied Research can be used in Visual Communication Design scholarship. By using a qualitative descriptive method, these two things become interesting topics to discuss. Through a qualitative descriptive method by collecting data through written sources in the form of books and online journals as well as describing and explaining the results of the research. After conducting research, the authors conclude that Applied Research can be used in Visual Communication Design science because there are other researchers who use this method.
