Les messages vocaux de WhatsApp n’ont pas les mêmes modalités d’utilisation que les messages écrits de cette application. Dès lors ce travail s’interroge sur les traits distinctifs des messages vocaux et tente de définir s’ils correspondent à un nouveau genre ou à une évolution d’un genre digital préexistant. Pour ce faire, six conversations WhatsApp ont été transcrites et examinées. L’analyse de ces messages met au jour les constantes suivantes : une exacerbation de l’aspect phatique des messages, un sentiment de présence connectée et une place importante accordée à la méta-réflexivité. Ces caractéristiques sont visiblement liées au fait que la communication médiée par les messages vocaux WhatsApp représente un genre hybride entre l’oral et l’écrit.

Cet article s’intéresse à l’acquisition du français par les locuteurs russes et polonais servant à la Légion étrangère. Le contexte d’acquisition du français est tout à fait particulier dans ce corps d’armée : plurilinguisme et communication exolingue produisent un input singulier, transformant la langue française en un hybride linguistique à définir, produit de jargon militaire, légionnaire, de mots empruntés aux langues fortement représentées à la Légion et de tournures stéréotypées dont les soldats ne connaissent pas la signification mot à mot. L’étude en cours tend à prouver l’existence d’un véritable légiolecte, permettant l’intercompréhension au sein des régiments, mais confrontant les recrues à de grandes difficultés de communication avec le monde civil. Dans l’étude d’énoncés de légionnaires, nous distinguerons les marques transcodiques de la langue maternelle des recrues des formes hybrides caractérisant le langage de la Légion.

Le nombre d’études s’intéressant aux éventuels bénéfices de la robotique pour les enfants présentant un trouble du spectre autistique ( tsa ) sont en forte augmentation depuis quelques années. Néanmoins, bien qu’intéressantes, ces études présentent souvent des biais méthodologiques et des partis pris théoriques qui rendent leurs conclusions difficilement généralisables. Dans notre étude, basée sur une approche longitudinale et menée en situation écologique, nous avons suivi l’évolution des comportements communicationnels d’enfants présentant un tsa lors de sessions d’interaction avec un robot hybride. Les résultats tendent à montrer que l’usage de ce robot hybride peut, dans le contexte spécifique auquel nous nous sommes intéressés, permettre un accroissement de certaines compétences communicationnelles liées à l’attention conjointe. Ces résultats, encourageants, méritent d’être approfondis par des études complémentaires.

L’offre de MOOC se caractérise aujourd’hui par une diversité de dispositifs qui se développent dans l’ensemble des espaces de formation (ex. écoles, entreprises, établissements d’enseignement supérieur, etc.). Cet article s’intéresse à l’un de ces dispositifs, récemment introduits dans le milieu universitaire : le MOOC hybride intégré dans une formation en présentiel. A partir d’une analyse de l’expérience des étudiants, nous cherchons à comprendre à la fois leurs motivations et leurs usages des ressources pédagogiques et des outils de communication (synchrones et asynchrones) mis à leur disposition. Il ressort, dans ce contexte particulier, que les étudiants qui ont réussi se distinguent de ceux qui ont échoué, par leurs motivations intrinsèques et extrinsèques et leurs utilisations des vidéos du live. Des pistes d’amélioration sont proposées en vue d’optimiser l’intégration d’un MOOC hybride dans un cursus académique.

À partir d’une perspective interactionniste et d’une recherche ethnographique documentant un modèle hybride de services d’accueil et de soutien à l’apprentissage du français mis en œuvre dans la région du Centre-du-Québec, trois modalités de communication reposant sur des configurations de rôles exercées par les acteurs et actrices scolaires participant·e·s et attribuées aux parents immigrants ont été documentées. La discussion propose d’aborder les relations (a)symétriques qui les traversent.

Cette thèse est centrée sur la réalisation de protocoles d'information quantique utilisant conjointement les approches à variables discrètes et à variables continues de l'information quantique optique. Nous détaillons tout d'abord les protocoles utilisés pour la génération d'états hautement non classiques tels que les photons uniques, les chats de Schrödinger optiques et enfin l'intrication hybride entre variables discrètes et continues. Nous évaluons le potentiel de cette ressource innovante en détaillant son utilisation dans un certain nombre de protocoles. Nous commençons par envisager la réalisation de tests de Bell utilisant l'intrication hybride et rapportons l'observation expérimentale d'une violation d'inégalité de Steering, pour la première fois dans un contexte hybride. Enfin, nous détaillons l'état d'avancement de l'installation d'une nouvelle expérience de téléportation quantique entre variables discrètes et variables continues. Nos résultats prouvent l'intérêt de suivre une approche hybride et ouvrent la possibilité de réaliser des réseaux d'information quantique hybrides liant des systèmes de différentes natures
There are two traditionally-separated approaches to optical quantum information: the continuous- and discrete-variable strategies respectively linked to the wave-like and particle-like nature of light. This thesis work is focused on the novel hybrid approach aiming to join the capabilities of both strategies into single systems. Using hybrid methods, we report on the use of optical parametric oscillators and superconducting-nanowire single-photon detectors to generate highly non-classical non-Gaussian states such as high-purity single-photons, Schr\"odinger cat states and finally hybrid entanglement of light between continuous- and discrete-variable encoding. The potential of this resource is studied in a number of protocols. We first consider non-locality tests with hybrid entanglement such as Bell inequality violation and experimentally demonstrate the violation of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering inequalities. We finally report on the progress made towards the implementation of a new setup for the demonstration of hybrid quantum teleportation between continuous and discrete-variable encodings. Our demonstrations prove the versatility of this hybrid resource and open the possibility of implementing scalable quantum networks linking systems of dissimilar nature

Les avancées des dernières décennies dans le domaine de l'électronique ont permis l'intégration plus facile des dispositifs de commande à base de convertisseur sur un plus grand nombre d'applications. L'utilisation de ces dispositifs de commande offre des avantages importants au niveau du dimensionnement et de l'efficacité énergétique, mais, en contrepartie, leur modèle dynamique présente une complexité accrue en particulier à cause des dynamiques hétérogènes des différents composants. Ainsi, en général, on retrouve une dynamique très rapide liée au changement de fonctionnement des composants et une dynamique du reste du système plus lente par rapport à la première.
Les travaux de cette thèse abordent les problèmes de la modélisation hybride de ce type de systèmes. Un des points importants des travaux effectués est la mise en place d'en ensemble d'outils et de méthodes permettant d'obtenir un modèle automate hybride équivalent d'un système physique avec des interrupteurs. Dans l'approche proposée l'automate hybride est obtenu par la composition des équations du système issues de l'approche bond-graph commuté et des contraintes introduites par les interrupteurs.
La méthodologie proposée est ensuite utilisée pour définir un modèle de simulation sous Simulink.
Le problème de la commande est abordé dans le cadre particulier du démarrage d'un convertisseur à double résonance issu d'une application en imagerie médicale.

Un rôle important des C-ITS est d'élargir la perception des usagers de la route afin d'éviter les accidents de la route. Une telle perception étendue est construite par l'échange d'informations entre les véhicules, les piétons et l'infrastructures à l'aide de différents types de messages, notamment le message CAM et le message de perception collective (CPM). Bien que les données transportées par ces messages soient critiques, elles consomment beaucoup de ressources. Actuellement, les CAM et les CPM sont diffusés périodiquement avec une fréquence minimale de 1 Hz. De plus, leurs fréquences peuvent être adaptées en fonction de la dynamique du véhicule (vitesse, accélération,...) et en outre avec l'état du canal sans fil lorsqu'une fonctionnalité de contrôle de congestion distribué (DCC) est activée. Cependant, il peut être vital pour un véhicule de transmettre ses informations à un débit élevé dans les zones critiques, telles que les intersections, même si cela peut entraîner un taux d'occupation de canal (CBR) plus élevé. Au contraire, les véhicules à faible risque de collision peuvent réduire leur fréquence de transmission pour éviter une charge inutile sur le canal. Par conséquent, la diffusion de tels messages doit être effectuée de manière efficace afin que les exigences d'application de la sécurité routière soient garanties et que l'utilisation des ressources soit optimisée.Cela nécessite que la communication soit contextuelle, capable de contrôler les paramètres de communication en tenant compte des exigences de l'application, de la disponibilité des technologies de communication et des ressources radio ainsi que des conditions environnementales (configuration des routes, densité du trafic, présence d'infrastructures en bordure de route, etc.) . Par conséquent, établir des contextes qui caractérisent les informations collectées environnementales et non environnementales est un défi majeur pour la communication contextuelle.La thèse vise à étudier et à développer une communication contextuelle pour les applications de sécurité routière. L'objectif principal est de concevoir des algorithmes capables d'optimiser la communication V2X sur la base d'une reconnaissance des contextes, notamment la disponibilité des ressources radio, les conditions environnementales et les exigences de l'application. Le travail comprend deux phases. Dans la première phase, nous présentons une architecture de communication contextuelle et nous modélisons des contextes en termes d'exigences applicatives (contexte1) et de contexte environnemental (contexte2). Le premier contexte vise à définir les exigences de l'application et à évaluer les performances des stratégies de diffusion des messages CAM par rapport aux exigences. Le contexte environnemental particulièrement la disponibilité de l'infrastructure permettant une communication I2V qui peut remplacer la communication V2V dans cette zone locale, ce qui améliore la perception collective et réduit la charge du canal grâce à sa plus grande couverture de communication et son plus large champ de vision de capteurs. La deuxième phase vise à concevoir et développer des algorithmes qui contrôlent le contenu des messages en tenant compte des contextes préalablement modélisés tout en assurant un haut niveau de perception/conscience collective
An important role of C-ITS is to extend perception of individual road users so that traffic accidents are avoided. Such an extended perception is built by information exchange among vehicles, pedestrians, and infrastructure using different types of messages including cooperative awareness message (CAM) and Collective Perception Message (CPM). While data carried by these messages are critical, they are resource-consuming. Currently, CAMs and CPMs are broadcasted periodically with a minimum frequency of 1Hz. In addition, their frequencies can be adapted based on vehicle dynamics (speed, acceleration,...) and further with wireless channel condition when a distributed congestion control (DCC) functionality is enabled. However, it might be vital for a vehicle to transmit its beacons at a high rate in critical areas, such as intersections, even if this may result in higher channel busy ratio (CBR). On the contrary, vehicles with a low risk of collision may reduce their transmission frequency to avoid unnecessary load on the channel. Hence, dissemination of such messages must be made in an efficient way so that road safety application requirement is ensured and resource utilization is optimized.This requires the communication be context-aware, being able to control communication parameters by taking into account application requirements, availability of communication technologies and radio resources as well as environmental condition (road layout, traffic density, presence of roadside infrastructure, and etc.). Hence, establishing contexts that characterize environmental and non-environmental collected information is a key challenge for context-aware communication.The thesis targets at studying and developing context aware communication for road safety applications. The main goal is to design algorithms that are able to optimize V2X communication based on a recognition of the contexts particularly radio resource availability, environmental condition and application requirements. The work consists of two phases. In the first phase, we present context aware communication architecture and study/model contexts in terms of application requirement (context1) and environmental context (context2). The first context aims to define application requirement and evaluate performances of Cooperative Awareness Service strategies against requirements. Environmental context consists on infrastructure availability allowing I2V communication that may replace V2V communication in that local area resulting in improved collective perception and reduced channel load thanks to its larger communication coverage and sensor field of view. The second phase intends to design and develop algorithms that control/select message data contents taking into account contexts previously modeled while ensuring a high level of collective perception/awareness

Les systèmes embarqués sont de plus en plus présents dans l'industrie comme dans la vie quotidienne. Une grande partie de ces systèmes comprend des applications effectuant du traitement intensif des données: elles utilisent de nombreux filtres numériques, où les opérations sur les données sont répétitives et ont un contrôle limité. Les graphes "flots de données", grâce à leur déterminisme fonctionnel inhérent, sont très répandus pour modéliser les systèmes embarqués connus sous le nom de "data-driven". L'ordonnancement statique et périodique des graphes flot de données a été largement étudié, surtout pour deux modèles particuliers: SDF et CSDF. Dans cette thèse, on s'intéresse plus particulièrement à l'ordonnancement périodique des graphes CSDF. Le problème consiste à identifier des séquences périodiques infinies d'actionnement des acteurs qui aboutissent à des exécutions complètes à buffers bornés. L'objectif est de pouvoir aborder ce problème sous des angles différents : maximisation de débit, minimisation de la latence et minimisation de la capacité des buffers. La plupart des travaux existants proposent des solutions pour l'optimisation du débit et négligent le problème d'optimisation de la latence et propose même dans certains cas des ordonnancements qui ont un impact négatif sur elle afin de conserver les propriétés de périodicité. On propose dans cette thèse un ordonnancement hybride, nommé Self-Timed Périodique (STP), qui peut conserver les propriétés d'un ordonnancement périodique et à la fois améliorer considérablement sa performance en terme de latence
One of the most important aspects of parallel computing is its close relation to the underlying hardware and programming models. In this PhD thesis, we take dataflow as the basic model of computation, as it fits the streaming application domain. Cyclo-Static Dataflow (CSDF) is particularly interesting because this variant is one of the most expressive dataflow models while still being analyzable at design time. Describing the system at higher levels of abstraction is not sufficient, e.g. dataflow have no direct means to optimize communication channels generally based on shared buffers. Therefore, we need to link the dataflow MoCs used for performance analysis of the programs, the real time task models used for timing analysis and the low-level model used to derive communication times. This thesis proposes a design flow that meets these challenges, while enabling features such as temporal isolation and taking into account other challenges such as predictability and ease of validation. To this end, we propose a new scheduling policy noted Self-Timed Periodic (STP), which is an execution model combining Self-Timed Scheduling (STS) with periodic scheduling. In STP scheduling, actors are no longer strictly periodic but self-timed assigned to periodic levels: the period of each actor under periodic scheduling is replaced by its worst-case execution time. Then, STP retains some of the performance and flexibility of self-timed schedule, in which execution times of actors need only be estimates, and at the same time makes use of the fact that with a periodic schedule we can derive a tight estimation of the required performance metrics

Au coeur de la recherche sur les logiques institutionnelles, l’objectif de cette thèse est d’apporter un nouvel éclairage sur l’identification des logiques et de leur cohabitation dans les organisations hybrides. La question de l’identification est centrale pour comprendre les logiques, leurs interrelations et leurs implications dans les organisations hybrides, soumises à l’influence d’une pluralité de logiques. Grâce à la prise en compte de données à la fois textuelles et visuelles, nous contribuons à l’analyse des informations contenues dans ces données et leur rôle dans la diffusion des logiques. Il en résulte que pour favoriser la cohabitation des logiques, les organisations hybrides utilisent les textes et les visuels au sein de différents supports. Cette recherche se concentre sur une étude de cas, l’organisation des Scouts et Guide de France. Nous y développons plusieurs analyses de contenu, qualitative et quantitative, textuelle et visuelle, pour capturer les logiques et comprendre leurs interactions
The purpose of this thesis is to bring new insights on the identification and cohabitation of institutional logics in a hybrid organization. The question of the identification of logics is the main concern to then be able to understand the inner workings of logics, their relationships and implications in hybrid organisations, under the influence from a plurality of logics. By taking into account both textual and visual data, we contribute to consider the information contained in these data, as their role in the diffusion of logics. To support the cohabitation of logics, hybrid organizations use texts and visuals in different support. Focused on a case study, the organisation of Scouts and Guides of France, we develop several content analyses, qualitative and quantitative, textual and visual, to capture logics and understand their relationships

Les phénomènes d'hybridation en sciences de l'information et de la communication. Analyse discursive des communications de recrutement des armées professionnelles françaises de 1996 à 2012. La décision de suspension du service national en 1996 a contraint les armées professionnelles à communiquer pour recruter. En 2012, cela a fait seize ans que le ministère de la défense diffuse des communications qui ont pour objectif de recruter leurs personnels militaires. À partir d'un travail d'investigation effectué sur les dix-neuf campagnes de recrutement diffusées en 1996 et 2012 par l'Armée de Terre, la Marine Nationale et l'Armée de l'Air, cette thèse se propose d'analyser le discours de recrutement militaire en postulant sa polyphonie énonciative. Quelles sont les différentes formes discursives qui s'enchevêtrent dans le discours de recrutement militaire ? Existe-il des phénomènes de tensions ou de complémentarités dans l'énonciation de ce discours de recrutement ? Comment aménage-t-il une place aux destinataires dans cette hybridation des formes discursives ? En définitive, que nous dit cette hybridation des discours dans la compréhension des communications de recrutement militaire ?
Hybridization occurences in information and communication sciences. Discourse analysis of recruitment communications and campaign for the professional French armies from 1996 to 2012.The suspension of the conscription with its obligatory national service in 1996 has led the professional armies to communicate to recruit their military personnel. In 2012, it has been sixteen years that the Ministry of Defense has released communications for that purpose. Following a work of investigations carried out on the nineteen recruitment campaigns released between 1996 and 2012 by the French Army, the French Navy and the French Air Force, this thesis analyzes military recruitment discourses by postulating their enunciative polyphony. What are the different discursive forms that are entangled in the military recruiting speech? Is there any form of tensions or complementarities in the enunciation of this recruitment speech? How does it make a space for recipients in this hybridization of discursive forms? Ultimately, how does this hybridization of discourses help us with the understanding of military recruitment communications?

Les réseaux satellites DVB-S2/RCS représente une solution alternative dans les zones reculés ou non couvertes par les réseaux filaires. Cependant, vu leur coût élevé et les caractéristiques qu'ils présentent, ils doivent être utilisés en complémentarité avec les solutions terrestres, constituants des réseaux intégrées ou hybrides (satellite/terrestre), en support du multiservice, avec ce que cela entraine en termes d'exigences liées aux nouveaux usages (accès généralisé et transparent). La première contribution consiste à l'analyse d'un système réel afin de caractériser le lien satellite. Cette démarche permet une éventuelle configuration d'un système émulé et s'avère le meilleur moyen pour bien paramétrer ce dernier. Par la suite, nous avons procédé à un ensemble de tests d'évaluation de plusieurs versions de TCP en utilisant l'émulateur SATEM. Vu les caractéristiques que représentent ces nouvelles versions de TCP, nous avons abouti à une proposition originale consistant à utiliser sur le segment satellite ces versions sans autre artifice architectural. Nous avons aussi proposé une solution qui permet d'améliorer le contrôle de congestion sur la voie aller DVB-S2 avec l'ACM pour les applications streaming, en utilisant le DCCP. Enfin, nous proposons une solution d'adaptation au niveau transport, qui s'avère efficace pour les handovers dans les réseaux hybrides satellites/terrestres et qui vient étayer nos résultats obtenus sur le segment satellite.

Le contenu de marque désigne des contenus éditoriaux qui sont produits par les marques. Ce format de communication va à l’encontre des codes habituels : le produit n’est pas mis en avant et la marque se montre désintéressée pour mieux séduire son audience. Notre recherche vise à comprendre la nature de la pratique (ses motivations, ses effets, ses acteurs), le processus de formation de la stratégie et les logiques animant ses parties prenantes. Vingt entretiens individuels (annonceurs et publicitaires) et deux études de cas (voyage-sncf.com et Louis Vuitton) ont été menés. Nous proposons une conceptualisation du contenu de marque, ainsi qu’une typologie des pratiques existantes. Nous expliquons le caractère hybride de la stratégie ainsi que sa formation. Nous montrons qu’il existe des stratégies de contenu de marque planifiées (ou délibérées) et des stratégies émergeant d’initiatives non planifiées (émergentes). Nous relevons les tensions survenues au cours de la formation de la stratégie et nous expliquons leur résolution. Nous contribuons ainsi à la fois aux travaux relatifs à la marque et à son management, ainsi qu’au champ de la strategy as practice
Brand content refers to editorial contents that are produced by the brand itself. This form of communication appears to be disruptive compared to traditional advertising as it does never mention the product and thus does not appear to intend to sell anything to the consumer. The objective is more to seduce the audience with an interesting and entertaining content. Our research aims at understanding brand content strategies, as well as its actors and logics.Twenty individual interviews with communication experts and two brand case studies have been implemented.We propose a conceptualization of brand content, as well as a typology of existing practices. We explain the formation of the strategy and the logics of actors participating to the formation. We illustrate the fact that strategy can be formalized (deliberate) or that it can also arise from non-planned initiatives. We finally present the tensions emerging from the strategy formation.Our research contributes to both brand management and strategy as practice literatures

ZusammenfassungProtest ist vielfältig, spielt sich in unterschiedlichen Räumen ab und deckt eine ganze Bandbreite an Formen, Aufwand und Motivationen ab. Im folgenden Kapitel sollen zentrale Begriffe dieser Arbeit geklärt werden und eine Zusammenfassung des Forschungsstandes zu Protestpartizipation erfolgen. Nach der Definition der Begriffe Protest, Soziale Bewegung, Internet, Social Media und Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), werden verschiedene Protesträume mit ihren Eigenschaften und Bedeutungen beschrieben: Straße, Massenmedien, Internet und hybride Protesträume. Darauf aufbauend folgt eine Vorstellung von Hybrid-Organisationen und der Strategie des Grassroots-Campaigning, bevor sich der letzte Teil dieses Kapitels dann explizit mit gegenwärtigen Trends in der Protestpartizipation befasst. Hier werden Eigenschaften und gesellschaftliche Konsequenzen von netzbasierter Kommunikation, Social Media und neuen ICTs erläutert und die Kritik des Clicktivism vorgestellt. In Konsequenz ergeben sich im Bereich des zivilgesellschaftlichen Engagements Tendenzen der Niedrigschwelligkeit, Individualisierung, Personalisierung und Kreativität.

Communication via satellite is the only method for communicating between the ocean and land. However, present commercial satellites cannot provide sufficient bandwidth to transmit the requisite volume of data. The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) conducted broadband satellite communication experiments with the Wideband Inter-Networking engineering test and Demonstration Satellite (WINDS). Using WINDS, the tele-operation of a hybrid remotely operated vehicle (HROV), Otohime, was also carried out successfully.

VLC (Visible Light Communications) technology represents nowadays a new paradigm that could have a significant impact on future wireless communications. Although this technology has many advantages, one of the most common problem generated by the use of optical communication systems (based on the light in the visible spectrum), is the increased degree of disruption of the communication channel under the direct sunlight influence. The purpose of this article is to present the technological developments specific to the VLC/IR-RF (Visible Light Communication / Infrared - Radio-Frequency) hybrid system developed in the framework of a scientific research project started in 2017, which were recorded during the first half of 2019. This system based on multiple sensory devices such as temperature, motion, light intensity, dust, IR and microbolometer sensors will present the ability of intelligent monitoring and control of indoor environments (houses, office buildings, universities, campuses, etc.). From the point of view of the final purpose of the project, this will result in a hybrid bidirectional optical communication system capable of supporting high transfer rates, increased resistance to the specific sunlight disturbance, and the possibility of transmitting sensory information over long distances. The previous experimentation activities undertaken during the project were based on the use of the Arduino UNO development boards. Currently, it has been chosen to replace them with the development boards based on the ARM Cortex-A53 processor, in order to improve the system's performance. The Arduino development boards have limited the performance of the communications system from the point of view of the transfer speeds and distances. The new Raspberry Pi development boards, being a complete operating and control system, presents high operational performances that can be used in favor of the final goal of the project.

Resumen
This work presents a deep analysis of na embedded system to detect free on-street parking slots by using wireless cameras. To allow distributed processing and the communication, intelligent boards were embedded in the cameras. Three different system architectures are considered: sentralized, hybrid and embedded. Each architeture was simulated considering the variation of the communications radius size, the amount of cameras and the amount of concurrent system queries. The results of simulation revealed that the performance of embedded proposal is better than the hybrid one in all scenarios. Additionaly, the embedded proposal was evaluated considering eventual cameras failure. It was observed that these failures influence directly the answer time of system.

The development of improved citrus and scion rootstock cultivars has been limited by several factors, including complex reproductive biology, extended juvenility, and a lack of support and continuity of long-termed conventional breeding programs (Gmitter et al., 1991). Most commercially important scion and rootstock cultivars have arisen from the selection of bud-sport mutations within existing clones or by chance seedling selections. However, there are a few important scion and rootstock cultivars that were developed by conventional breeding. Such scion cultivars are mandarin hybrids developed by USDA breeders, primarily tangelos (mandarin x grapefruit hybrids) and tangors (mandarin x sweet orange hybrids) including ‘Minneola’, ‘Orlando’, ‘Nova’, ‘Page’, ‘Robinson’, ‘Fairchild’, ‘Sunburst’ (Saunt, 1990), and more recently ‘Fall Glo’ and ‘Ambersweet’ (C.J. Hearn, personal communication). Important rootstock cultivars developed by conventional breeding include Swingle citrumelo (grapefruit x trifoliate orange hybrid) and Carrizo and Troyer citranges (sweet orange x trifoliate orange hybrid). Because of renewed interest and the development of improved breeding parents, sexual hybridization will play an increasingly important role in citrus cultivar improvement. The integration of emerging biotechnologies with conventional breeding methods will facilitate and expedite citrus cultivar improvement. Paper published with permission.

Marine vessels have been recently considered for redesign with a view towards autonomous operation. This brings forth a number of safety concerns as regards malware attacks on intra-vehicle communications systems as well as on sensor based communication with their environment. Designing suitable hybrid systems or cyber physical systems as the above, which are data driven, involves a challenge by way of difficulty in abstraction. The current modeling paradigm for cyber physical systems is based upon the abstract idea of a hybrid automaton which involves discrete as well as continuous mathematical models for the physical device (marine vessel/s) Incorporating statistical inference techniques to introduce an element of autonomy in this has been recently proposed in literature. An engineering situation is explored in which a pair of marine vessels is being deployed to navigate avoiding collision with the help of deterministic control as well as with a particle filtering state estimator. A security intrusion is considered to occur in the communication channels and the robustness of the system is studied with the state estimation. Such intrusions can indeed be expected to defeat the collision protection design if sufficiently intense. However, better protection is offered by such Bayesian estimation based intelligent control as compare to statistical learning base control. Our results suggest that the hybrid automaton modeling paradigm with autonomy incorporated needs to be suitably abstracted in order to better design their defence against cyber-attacks.

Resumen
The author characterized the Ukrainian national values, national interests and national goals. It is emphasized that national values are conceptual, ideological bases, consolidating factors, important life guidelines on the way to effective protection of Ukraine from Russian aggression and building a democratic, united Ukrainian state. Author analyzes the functioning of the mass media in the context of educational propaganda of individual, social and state values, the dominant core of which are patriotism, human rights and freedoms, social justice, material and spiritual wealth of Ukrainians, natural resources, morality, peace, religiosity, benevolence, national security, constitutional order. These key national values are a strong moral and civic core, a life-giving element, a self-affirming synergy, which on the basis of homogeneity binds the current Ukrainian society with the ancestors and their centuries-old material and spiritual heritage. Attention is focused on the fact that the current problem of building the Ukrainian state and protecting it from the brutal Moscow invaders is directly dependent on the awareness of all citizens of the essence of national values, national interests, national goals and filling them with the meaning of life, charitable socio-political life. It is emphasized that the missionary vocation of journalists to orient readers and listeners to the meaningful choice of basic national values, on the basis of which Ukrainian citizens, regardless of nationality together they will overcome the external Moscow and internal aggression of the pro-Russian fifth column, achieve peace, return the Ukrainian territories seized by the Kremlin imperialists and, in agreement will build Ukrainian Ukraine.

Resumen
This study is a detailed, qualitative exploration of the role played by a South African migrant radio programme, SANZ Live, in supporting its audience to create a sense of place in Auckland, New Zealand, through a range of on- and off-air activities. The thesis concludes that SANZ Live contributes to the creation of opportunities for South African migrants to find a sense of place through producing media content, participating in face-to-face communication through the off-air activities of SANZ Live, participating in SANZ Live social media and perpetuating aspects of South African culture through various programme-related activities. This multi-layered participation works to establish a new routine and a hybrid culture that enables South African migrants to establish new individual, group, and collective identities – becoming ‘South African Kiwis’ – in their new home of choice.In her exploration of this important topic, the author has used a wide range of relevant academic and industry sources to outline the role of Auckland community radio, and the station SANZ in particular, in creating a new hybrid sense of identity for the city’s South African community. It builds on earlier work elsewhere that has explored similar topics (Downing, 2001, 2003; Downing & Husband, 2005; Forde et al, 2009). But importantly, the study has revealed the critical role of being played by the radio programme in smoothing South African immigrants’ transition into New Zealand society – an important dimension of the settlement process.

The accelerating impacts of climate change, the need to adapt to changing economic and political realities, and the recent energy crisis have made the green transition something that most Nordic citizens acknowledge. However, especially rural areas and their communities are at risk of being reduced to passive instruments of national green transition measures featuring heavy land-use. These conditions make it very difficult to create a sense of justness in green transitions, leading to growing sense of alienation and resentment and putting the national climate goals in danger. From this starting point, the case studies of the research project “Just Green Transition on Rural Areas: Local Benefits from Value Creation” set out to examine what kind of benefits would generate value from green transition measures in the direct impact zone of new energy projects. The case studies took place in three Nordic countries and six locations: in Northern Ostrobothnia and Northern Central Finland of Finland, involving wind power and land use planning; in Nord-Fron and Nord-Odal in Norway, involving both wind power and strategic sustainability work; and in Skive and Bornholm of Denmark, involving a hybrid mix of renewable energy sources in the context of industrial park development. The results highlight the importance of local involvement and trust in green energy transitions in Nordic rural areas. Neglecting local needs can cause resistance to renewable projects. Early engagement, transparent communication, and ensuring local benefits are vital. While monetary benefits attract attention, relying solely on them can create community divisions. A blend of community engagement, environmental benefits, and local ownership of projects fosters trust and a deeper sense of justice in these transitions.

Resumen
The article updates the activities of regional broadcasters in the information space of the Luhansk region, where numerous enemy information attacks preceded the invasion of the Russian occupation forces. Main objective of the study - mass media activities of the Luhansk region’s television companies in the pre-war and post-war periods and the specifics of the integration of the (pro) Russian agenda into the region’s information space. The study was done out using a descriptive, classification, comparative-historical method, which made it possible to consider the regional telespace in the context of historical transformations and highlight stages in development, identify system-forming factors, which made it possible to move from the consideration of certain elements to the analysis of the system. Conclusions. The mass communication activities of the Luhansk region’s television companies in different historical periods have shown their ability to maintain the regional media field, the diversity and variety of content. However, the media sphere was not devoid of Soviet party ideology (1958-1991), with its subsequent post-Soviet modification and political layering (1991-2004) of anti-Ukrainian forces; with the saturation (2004-2014) of the information space with non-Ukrainian information flows and the promotion of symbols, worldview and philosophical concepts of the updated Soviet ideology – the «Russkiy mir» and its further functioning (2014-2022) in the conditions of real military operations in the East of Ukraine. Significance. During the ongoing war, Ukraine’s experience can be used in research on Russian information interference, inciting enmity, hatred between peoples, promoting narratives in the Ukrainian and international information space, verifying the criteria for distinguishing between information destructive to democracy and a valid expression of freedom of speech, and creating an international platform for exchange information about threats, misinformation, narratives and their rapid leveling. Resumen
We present a systematic investigation of computational approaches to the modeling of granular materials. Granular materials are ubiquitous in everyday life and in a variety of engineering and industrial applications. Despite the apparent simplicity of the laws governing particle-scale interactions, predicting the continuum mechanical response of granular materials still poses extraordinary challenges. This is largely due to the complex history dependence resulting from continuous rearrangement of the microstructure of granular material, as well as the mechanical interlocking due to grain morphology and surface roughness. X-Ray Computed Tomography (XRCT) is used to characterize the grain morphology and the fabric of the granular media, naturally deposited sand in this study. The Level-Set based Discrete Element Method (LS-DEM) is then used to bridge the granular behavior gap between the micro and macro scale. The LS-DEM establishes a one-to-one correspondence between granular objects and numerical avatars and captures the details of grain morphology and surface roughness. However, the high-fidelity representation significantly increases the demands on computational resources. To this end a parallel version of LS-DEM is introduced to significantly decrease the computational demands. The code employs a binning algorithm, which reduces the search complexity of contact detection from O(n2) to O(n), and a domain decomposition strategy is used to elicit parallel computing in a memory- and communication-efficient manner. The parallel implementation shows good scalability and efficiency. High fidelity LS avatars obtained from XRCT images of naturally deposited sand are then used to replicate the results of triaxial tests using the new, parallel LS-DEM code. The result show that both micro- and macro-mechanical behavior of natural material is well captured and is consistent with experimental data, confirming experimental observation that the primary source of peak strength of sand is the mechanical interlocking between irregularly shaped grains. Specifically, triaxial test simulations with a flexible membrane produce a very good match to experimentally observed relationships between deviatoric stress and mobilized friction angle for naturally deposited sand. We then explore the viability of modeling dynamic problems with a new formulation of an impulse based LS-DEM. The new formulation is stable, fast, and energy conservative. However, it can be numerically stiff when the assembly has substantial mass differences between particles. We also demonstrate the feasibility of modeling deformable structures in the rigid body framework and propose several enhancements to improve the convergence of collision resolution, including a hybrid time integration scheme to separately handle at rest contacts and dynamic collisions. Finally, we extend the impulse-based LS-DEM to include arbitrarily shaped topographic surfaces and exploit its algorithmic advantages to demonstrate the feasibility of modeling realistic behavior of granular flows. The novel formulation significantly improves performance of dynamic simulations by allowing larger time steps, which is advantageous for observing the full development of physical phenomena such as rock avalanches, which we present as an illustrative example.
