Texto completoWe analyze in this work the determinants of the energy source for heating choice and its impact on the households living in France energy consumption and expenses. This thesis is written in five chapters. In the first we show the lack of data relative to home's energy consumption and we present a set of descriptive statistics showing some features of the energy consumption and expenses in the French dwellings. In the second chapter we describe in details the utilization of energy for heating in the French residential park and we make use of a discrete choice model to determine the factors intervening in the choice of heating equipments. In the third chapter we analyze the determinants of the energy demand for heating and the overall energy expenses in all the French dwellings by estimating a series of econometric models inspired by Dubin and Mcfadden (1984) used to deal with the selection biais. In the fourth chapter we concentrate on the rental sector to determine its singularities on the one hand, and, on the other hand, to find out the features which distinguish the social sector from the private sector concerning the heating equipment choice and the energy consumption and expenses levels. And last but not least, the fifth chapter is dedicated to lay the foundations of a theoretical model formalizing the behavior of all the agents toward energy when the heating bill is collective. It is worth noting that so far, there isn't any model dealing with this question

Texto completoThis thesis is a sociological examination of concrete problems that result from energy savings in group housing. It is based on inductive research conducted by means of field surveys involving residents as well as housing and heating professionals. The central idea is to show how, beyond technical and economical factors, energy consumption in housing is a social and organizational construction. From an ethnographic description of practices in the home that involve energy consumption — particularly heating practices — it shows that many constraints limit the leeway that people have in the domestic sphere. The organizational analysis of heating management in public housing and energy renovation in co-ownership shows conflicts of interest among the professionals in the field of energy savings. A real reduction in energy consumption is possible when residents are able to participate in collective decisions concerning their building

Texto completoIn a context of strong increase of fuelwood demand in the collective sector, the supply issue becomes central to all stakeholders, raising many issues relating to land and forestry planning, local development, environment ... Meanwhile, questions emerge: how much energy can be mobilized sustainably? Does the spatial and structural configuration of forests influence the supply process? Do we seek to minimize transport distances? Can we observe spatial competition between the boilers ? To understand the current organization of supplies, we analyzed two sets of data traceability of wood chips. Then, we have developed a model of local supply basins, considering constraints of renewability of the resource, and conflicts of use, by combining various information sources: vegetation index derived from satellite imagery, forest mapping and production tables. The objective of this approach was dual : to determine the quantity of forest chips workable on a territory, and to highlight the spatial competition between the different basins supply, and the contribution of different tree species. This has enabled to show the importance of the energy potential of isolated trees, to our knowledge not previously evaluated in a sub-regional scale

Texto completoIn the current environmental and economic context, it is crucial that each individual has the tools to manage their heating consumption while maintaining a satisfactory level of comfort. However, obstacles can limit this control over energy and comfort. For example, in buildings with collective heating in France, the distribution of charges between apartments is traditionally based on the proportional surface area, which may discourage the adoption and maintenance of energy-efficient behaviours. To address this, the Élan law aims to individualize heating costs to encourage households to save energy. However, studies conducted on certain dwellings and buildings have shown that the distribution of heating costs is not the only obstacle to greater energy efficiency. Thus, this thesis first aimed to identify and understand the barriers to better control of heating consumption and comfort in French dwellings equipped with collective heating, representing around six million households. To achieve this, a survey was conducted. The results showed that heating bills are often difficult to access and understand, as is the distribution of heating costs. Additionally, respondents expressed the need for additional information, such as personalized advice or data on the environmental impact of their consumption. The results also revealed that the absence of remote programming and control systems for radiators discourages occupants from adopting and maintaining energy-efficient behaviours.Next, the work of this thesis focused on overcoming these barriers. To this end, a methodology was developed to improve both the technical and informational environment for users. Traditionally, to encourage individuals to save energy, one or more interventions are implemented. However, few studies propose an approach that targets relevant interventions based on individual characteristics. To determine the interventions to be used, a behavior change model was employed due to its suitability for energy management. The evaluation of the psychosocial factors constituting this model helped identify the most appropriate interventions for each individual. Moreover, the information provided as part of these interventions was personalized according to the occupants' habits and interests, encouraging them to engage with it. To improve the ease of use of the technical environment, connected thermostatic valves were installed, allowing remote control and programming of radiators at a low cost. These devices transmit data on the ambient temperature and the setpoint applied by users, enabling personalized advice on heating usage. This advice also included an estimate of the savings achievable by following the recommendations. To reliably calculate these potential savings, as well as those already achieved, dynamic thermal simulation models were developed. Finally, the methodology was tested on two families during the 2023-2024 heating period. The evaluation of this experiment considered changes in psychosocial factors, behaviour, comfort and energy savings achieved

Texto completoThe introduction of new low capacity absorption chillers opens new prospects for the multifunction multisource solar systems (MFSSYS) which exploit the full potential of the solar energy for heating, cooling and production of domestic hot water (DHW) purposes. The solar combisystems (SCS), which preceded the MFSSYS, lacked an adapted procedure for the sizing of their main components: the solar collector and the solar thermal storage tank. From the point of view of the energy and investment cost, a sizing method based on the peak load may fail if the energy source is not guaranteed to be stable. An optimization of the main components by simulation may be then a key solution for an optimal sizing of the MFSSYS. An initial hydraulic schematic is elaborated for the MFSSYS based on information found in the literature about the SCS and the data made available by the chiller manufacture. The modeling of this schematic is complex as redundant simulation and modification were necessary in order to eliminate the potential problems of solution convergence. From this experience, a method of simulation aided design is elaborated. Parametric runs were carried out on the MFSSYS model. They offer needed information for the comparison of the optimization algorithms which are tested later on. The outcome of these parametric runs is a response surface which represents the cost of the MFSSYS as a function of the solar collector surface area and the volume of the solar thermal storage tank. In order to reduce the number of simulations required by a complete parametric runs method, the use of optimization algorithm become a necessity. An optimization algorithm based on the design of experiments (OptDOE) is developed; its performance is compared with the one of a hybrid optimization algorithm in two cases: a reference function of Rosenbrock and the model of the MFSSYS. Compared to the hybrid optimization algorithm, OptDOE has showed good performance. The number of simulations is reduced and the optimized values, found by this method, are close to those of the parametric runs. The main advantage of OptDOE is to describe the behavior of the cost function in the neighborhood of the optimum. This information is valuable especially when the cost function has a valley-like form, which is the case for the systems we studied. In this case, the cost has approximately the same value for a large variation range of the optimized parameters
