Resumen
(1) Background: In addition to the major phytocannabinoids, trans-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), the cannabis plant (Cannabis sativa L.) synthesizes over 120 additional cannabinoids that are known as minor cannabinoids. These minor cannabinoids have been proposed to act as agonists and antagonists at numerous targets including cannabinoid type 1 (CB1) and type 2 (CB2) receptors, transient receptor potential (TRP) channels and others. The goal of the present study was to determine the agonist effects of the minor cannabinoids: cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabichromene (CBC), cannabitriol (CBT) and cannabidivarin (CBDV) at the CB1 receptor. In addition, the CB1 receptor antagonist effects of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabivarin (Δ9-THCV) were compared with its isomer Δ8-tetrahydrocannabivarin (Δ8-THCV). (2) Methods: CB1 receptor activity was monitored by measuring cannabinoid activation of G protein-gated inward rectifier K+ (GIRK) channels in AtT20 pituitary cells using a membrane potential-sensitive fluorescent dye assay. (3) Results: When compared to the CB1 receptor full agonist WIN 55,212-2 and the partial agonist Δ9-THC, none of the minor cannabinoids caused a significant activation of Gi/GIRK channel signaling. However, Δ9-THCV and Δ8-THCV antagonized the effect of WIN 55,212-2 with half-maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50s) of 434 nM and 757 nM, respectively. Δ9-THCV antagonism of the CB1 receptor was “ligand-dependent”; Δ9-THCV was more potent in inhibiting WIN 55,212-2 and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) than Δ9-THC. (4) Conclusions: While none of the minor cannabinoids caused Gi/GIRK channel activation, Δ9-THCV antagonized the CB1 receptor in an isomer- and ligand-dependent manner.

Resumen
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is increasingly promoted as the treatment of choice in the UK. The Layard Report (2006) recommended a massive expansion in the provision of CBT. We discuss what we believe to be a fundamental contradiction in the thinking behind the Layard Report. After briefly reviewing the evidence for CBT, we suggest it suffers from a similar philosophical contradiction in the way it is practised. In particular, we argue that CBT is often associated with a pathological, disempowering model of psychological distress. Whilst recognising the current pressure to be seen to be practising CBT, we argue that a broader Cognitive Behavioural Approach (CBA), based on fundamental cognitive principles avoids the contradictions inherent in the provision of rigid, manualised CBT. CBA is proposed as a basis for understanding psychological experience and distress, and identifies the cognitions that are fundamental as causes of ‘mental health problems’ regardless of traditional diagnostic categories. The implications of CBA for prevention and therapy are discussed.

Resumen
The effects of dietary Clostridium butyricum (CB) on growth performance, intestinal morphology, tight junction proteins, and immune-related gene mRNA levels in Pelteobagrus fulvidraco were investigated. The fish were fed with diets containing 0 (control, CB0), 4.8 × 10 6 (CB1), 4.5 × 10 7 (CB2), 5.1 × 10 8 (CB3), and 3.6 × 10 9 (CB4) CFU/kg Clostridium butyricum for 56 days followed by a 72 h ammonia challenge. The results showed that significantly higher final weight, specific growth rate, body length, and intestinal weight were observed in fish fed with CB diets ( P < 0.05 ). The fish fed with CB1, CB2, and CB3 diets had significantly higher intestinal length, propionic acid concentration, and alkaline phosphatase activity and significantly lower feed conversion ratio than those in CB0 ( P < 0.05 ). Significantly higher concentrations of butyric acid and valeric acid and significantly lower malondialdehyde content were observed in CB4 than in CB0 ( P < 0.05 ). Intestosomatic index, villus length, villus width, intestinal protease, Na+/K+-ATPase, and creatine kinase activities were significantly increased in CB2 or CB3 than in CB0 ( P < 0.05 ). Fish in CB2 or CB3 had significantly lower content of interleukin 1β and interleukin 6 and relative expression of interleukin 1 (Il-1), interleukin 8 (Il-8), and nuclear transcription factor-κB (Nf-κb) compared to that in CB0 ( P < 0.05 ). Dietary CB significantly decreased the relative expression of myosin light chain kinase (Mlck) (P <0.05). Significantly higher relative expressions of claudin-1, zonula occludens protein-1, and occludin were observed in CB2, CB3, and CB4 compared to CB0 ( P < 0.05 ). Fish in CB0 had higher CMR than that in CB2, CB3, and CB4 under ammonia nitrogen stress for 48 and 72 h ( P < 0.05 ). Dietary Clostridium butyricum improved growth performance and resistance to ammonia stress in yellow catfish by increasing intestinal short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) productions, upregulating genes encoding tight junction proteins, downregulating transcription of proinflammatory factors Il-1 and Il-8, and inhibiting the Mlck/Nf-κb signaling pathway.

Resumen
Objective To retrospectively review our experience with the diagnosis and treatment of carotid bifurcation tumors (CBFT). Methods This was a retrospective study of 60 patients with CBFT who underwent surgical and conservative treatment. The patients’ clinicopathological features, imaging examination findings, treatment strategy, and prognosis were analyzed. The surgical grade, blood loss, tumor size, operative time, and postoperative complications were analyzed by Spearman’s correlation. Results Resection was performed in 52 patients with 53 tumors. The mean tumor volume, operative time, estimated blood loss, and follow-up time was 47.62 ± 65.28 cm3, 176.1 ± 86.55 minutes, 231.3 ± 354.0 mL, and 44.42 ± 29.30 months, respectively. Pathological examination showed that the number of carotid body tumors (CBT; paraganglioma), neurilemmoma, mesenchymal tissue tumor, and angioleiomyoma was 42, 8, 1, and 1, respectively. Of the CBT group, the rate of Shamblin Type I, II, and III was 11.9%, 59.5%, and 28.6%, and three cases were malignant CBT with lymph node metastasis. Spearman’s correlation analysis showed that complication grade was significantly related to surgical difficulty grade and operative time. Conclusion CBT is the most frequent lesion in CBFT, and CBT may be treated safely by surgical management. The severity of surgical complications is significantly correlated with surgical difficulty.

Resumen
AbstractBackgroundCompulsive buying behavior (CBB) is receiving increasing consideration in both consumer and psychiatric-epidemiological research, yet empirical evidence on treatment interventions is scarce and mostly from small homogeneous clinical samples.ObjectivesTo estimate the short-term effectiveness of a standardized, individual cognitive behavioral therapy intervention (CBT) in a sample of n = 97 treatment-seeking patients diagnosed with CBB, and to identify the most relevant predictors of therapy outcome.MethodThe intervention consisted of 12 individual CBT weekly sessions, lasting approximately 45 minutes each. Data on patients’ personality traits, psychopathology, sociodemographic factors, and compulsive buying behavior were used in our analysis.ResultsThe risk (cumulative incidence) of poor adherence to the CBT program was 27.8%. The presence of relapses during the CBT program was 47.4% and the dropout rate was 46.4%. Significant predictors of poor therapy adherence were being male, high levels of depression and obsessive-compulsive symptoms, low anxiety levels, high persistence, high harm avoidance and low self-transcendence.ConclusionCognitive behavioral models show promise in treating CBB, however future interventions for CBB should be designed via a multidimensional approach in which patients’ sex, comorbid symptom levels and the personality-trait profiles play a central role.

Resumen
There are anecdotal reports that some Cannabis preparations may be useful for bladder dysfunctions. Here, we investigated the effect of a number of non-psychotropic phytocannabinoids, namely cannabidiol (CBD), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabidivarin (CBDV), Δ9-tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) and cannabichromene (CBC) on mouse bladder contractility in vitro. CBG, THCV, CBD and CBDV, but not CBC, at concentration ranging from 10−8 M to 10−4 M, decreased (with similar potency), the contractions induced by acetylcholine without significantly modifying the contractions induced by electrical stimulation. The rank order of efficacy was CBG=THCV>CBD>CBDV. In depth studies on CBG showed that the effect of this phytocannabinoid on acetylcholine-induced contractions was not affected by CB1 or CB2 receptor antagonists. Additionally, CBG also reduced acetylcholine-induced contractions in the human bladder.

Resumen
This study investigated the prevalence of voluntary self-practice of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) by accredited CBT practitioners, and explored the ability of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to predict intentions to engage in CBT self-practice. A TPB questionnaire was constructed by implementing the protocol devised by Francis et al. (2004), with content specific items generated from an elicitation exercise to obtain salient beliefs regarding CBT self-practice. A sample of 177 accredited CBT practitioners completed an online survey which included demographic items and the TPB questionnaire. It was found that 46.4% of participants intended to self-practice CBT more than once a week over the following month. While the TPB predicted intentions to self-practice CBT (R2 = .445, p < .001), structural equation modeling revealed that the theory of reasoned action (R2 = .473, p < .001) was the best model fit of the observed data (RMSEA = .00, CFI = 1.00). It was concluded that a substantial proportion of CBT practitioners intended to regularly engage in CBT self-practice, with intentions predicted by subjective normative beliefs and attitudes towards the behaviour. Implications are discussed, with calls for the study to be replicated. Potential future research is considered, with suggestions to explore the role of CBT self-practice to promote therapist wellbeing.

Resumen
Collaboration between therapist and client has been put forward as a core element of successful therapeutic encounters. There has been debate as to the nature of collaboration in cognitive behavioural therapy. In the UK this debate has intensified since the introduction of Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) in 2008 as CBT is the favoured therapeutic modality within IAPT. Collaboration in CBT has been conceptualised in dichotomous ways. From one perspective it is constructed in positivistic terms, in which the therapist implements manualised protocols with little consideration for the therapeutic relationship; from the other perspective collaboration is constructed in dialogic terms, in which therapist and client use CBT interventions to consider new meanings that the client deems to be relevant. The current study used a discourse analytic methodology to investigate how CBT therapists construct collaboration in their therapeutic practices. The aim was to explicate interpretive repertories that participants used in the construction of collaboration. Semi-structured interviews were used with 8 CBT therapists. Questions related to the arguments for and against the nature of collaboration in CBT. A client choice interpretive repertoire was used by all participants. It was constructed in various ways in line with either positivistic or dialogic perspectives or elements of both. Individual participants constructed client choice from both perspectives suggesting that the dichotomy in perspectives on collaboration in CBT may not be clear-cut. There is an implication for counselling psychology practitioners to reflect on their use of dichotomous perspectives to conceptualise their professional identities.

Gunn, Anthony. "The automated CBT psychologist: the development and trial of an online cbt treatment program for stuttering adolescents". Thesis, The University of Sydney, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/2123/12745.

Texto completo
Resumen
Introduction: This thesis took a successfully trialed, fully automated Internet based CBT (iCBT) program for treating socially anxious stuttering adults, known as CBTpsych (see Helgadottir, Menzies, Onslow, Packman & O'Brian, 2009b), and adapted it for stuttering adolescents. This saw the development and phase I trial of a fully automated iCBT program that targets social anxiety in stuttering adolescents, and does not require clinician involvement. Method: The adolescent iCBT program used algorithms to tailor treatment to each user’s specific issues relating to social anxiety. All seven modules in the iCBT program were designed around Clark and Wells’ (1995) model of social anxiety. Twelve stuttering adolescents presenting for stuttering treatment at the Australian Stuttering Research Centre (ASRC) were offered iCBT program access for five months. Participants were not allowed access to a psychologist during the trial. Results: Of the 12 participants enrolled in the study, three never started the iCBT program. Nine participants used the iCBT program, and 44% (n = 4/9) completed it. Only four participants returned their post-treatment assessment booklets. Post-treatment analysis revealed reductions in assessment scores for those who completed the program. Post-trial phone interviews with five of the nine participants who used the program suggested: (1) a positive response to iCBT; (2) that time constraints and school pressures act as a serious barrier for this age group accessing Internet based treatment. Conclusion: In line with earlier findings on this age group, stuttering adolescents were shown to be a difficult population to engage, evident by the high non-completion rate of the iCBT program (42%, n = 5/12) and the high non-completion rate of post-trial assessment booklets (67%, n = 8/12). More research is needed to find ways of lifting adolescent completion rates with Internet based treatment.

Resumen
Although evidence-based treatments (EBTs) often perform well in research settings, when EBTs are delivered in practice settings they sometimes fail to outperform usual care (UC). One reason for this could be that therapists in practice settings may not follow the EBT protocol as closely or may deliver more therapeutic interventions that align with other treatment domains. I tested this possibility in the context of cognitive-behavioral treatment (CBT) for youth anxiety by comparing how CBT was delivered in practice (i.e., community-based clinics) and research (i.e., lab) settings. A diverse sample of youth (aged 7-15) received one of two treatments to address primary presenting problems of anxiety: CBT in a lab (N = 51), CBT in clinics (N = 18), or UC in clinics (N = 22). The extensiveness of therapeutic interventions delivered was measured using the Therapy Process Observational Coding System for Child Psychotherapy – Strategies Scale (McLeod & Weisz, 2010). Two coders independently coded the same available sessions. Analyses investigated mean-level differences in interventions session-by-session, over time between the three groups. Results indicated that CBT delivery differed across groups, over time. Future researchers should use this characterization to further implementation and process-outcome research, and eventually either enhance quality control efforts or alter aspects of EBT protocols (Garland, Hulbert, & Hawley, 2006).

Resumen
Internet-based Cognitive Behavior-Therapy (CBT) programs may be a solution for the ever-growing demand of mental health treatment services. This thesis describes the usability testing process of Arjenhallinta internet-based CBT program in development. Arjenhallinta was evaluated using Cognitive Walkthrough and usability testing methods in order to find usability issues in the current version of the program. Found issues were communicated to the customer and recommendations were given to address the issues in future versions of the program. Qualitative data from user test observation and gathered feedback served as a basis for the recommendations. Arjenhallinta being both marketing website of the therapist as well as an internet-based CBT program, the most critical issues found were related to website navigation and CBT homework exercise instructions, latter which is associated with treatment outcome. Users had problems navigating from the marketing website back to the CBT program and the instructions to the CBT exercises were frequently missed and found inadequate by test participants. The usability testing activities were found feasible by the customer therapist Martti Puttonen. Identifying and addressing usability issues early contributes to the development of internet-based CBT program that is well received by its users. Positive user perception has an effect on the usage and the effectiveness of online mental health program.

Abstract SCADA optimization platform is implemented to monitor and evaluate well performance. For Sucker Rod Pump, SCADA Optimization Software can be used to monitor the unit balance and gearbox torque. In some ways, not all required well configuration data for SCADA Optimization Software to do a calculation of counterbalance torque (CBT) for pumping unit balance and gearbox torque evaluation are available. Standard field Counterbalance Effect (CBE) measurement might be performed to calculate the CBT value. However, this standard procedure is limited to well that run on balance condition. For well with unbalance condition, the measured CBE needs to be adjusted by a correction factor which the equation will be presented in this paper. The corrected CBE value from the new equation is then inputted to the SCADA Optimization software to perform day-to-day real-time monitoring of pumping unit balance and gearbox torque. Derivation of the CBE correction factor equation is presented. Validation upon this new equation is performed by comparing the result with electrical measurement on the pumping unit motor. Using the calculated CBT from the new equation, SCADA Optimization Software performs gearbox torque and pumping unit balance analysis based on every collected dynamometer card. Calculated CBT from the new equation provided results in gearbox torque distribution pattern that match with measured electrical parameter distribution along the stroke. This CBT value assists SCADA optimization software to calculate pumping unit balance and gearbox torque. Alarm in the SCADA optimization software that coming from an anomaly on pumping unit balance and gearbox torque help operator to do preventive maintenance so that pumping unit component especially the gearbox could have longer run life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has been established as the most common used psychotherapy approach in the realm of psychotherapy, well known for its evidence-based practices and wide range of applicability when treating psychological health disorders. CBT originated from the ground-breaking work of Aaron T. Beck and Albert Ellis and offers a structured framework for identifying and addressing the continues association between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This paper offers a comprehensive overview of CBT, pinpoints the main principals and how it can be applied to treat psychological disorders particularly substance misuse disorders. The role of CBT in substance misuse disorder found to be highly crucial as when the role of CBT in treatment and prevention of substance use is examined, the necessity and utility of using CBT as one of the complementary treatment approaches were proven by numerous studies. By applying the foundational principles of CBT and integrating recent technological and scientific developments into the CBT approach, they promise an empowering treatment journey and long-lasting recovery especially for the individuals who have substance misuse disorders.

Resumen
An experimental technique called Continuous-Bending-Under-Tension (CBT) can produce elongations over two times that of a standard tensile test by preventing the necking instability from occurring. This is achieved by superposing plastic bending on tension along the gage length of the material using three rollers. The specimen is kept under tension as the rollers apply the three point bending and cyclically transverse along the gage length. This localizes the plastic deformation by subjecting the specimen to bending-under-tension. Details on the design of the unique CBT machine and some preliminary results for the CBT research being conducted are presented here. These results include CBT tests where the roller depth was varied to demonstrate the increased elongation compared to the traditional tension test, CBT repeatability, and a modified friction test using the CBT machine.

Resumen
Core body temperature (CBT) is an important health indicator that denotes the temperature of the body core, and maintains brain and organ function. Invasive methods of CBT measurement pose challenges in assessing and monitoring human health. To address this, estimation of tympanic membrane temperature using multiple biological parameters often referenced for CBT has been attempted in previous studies. Our research focused on machine learning-based CBT estimation using hand-measurable biological data. Furthermore, while various studies have investigated machine learning models and the impact of information acquisition environments, few have compared the estimation accuracy of different biological parameters or assessed optimal feature combinations. Our proposed method entails the evaluation of indices in both normal scenarios with all variables and patterned scenarios with varying combinations of reduced explanatory variables. The comparison results reveal that when estimating the CBT based on skin conductance and pulse wave intervals excluding skin temperature, the mean absolute error, coefficient of determination, and root mean square error were 0.17 °C, 0.71, and 0.24 °C, respectively. This suggests that our approach is a feasible CBT estimation method that does not rely on skin temperature, although accuracy concerns persist. Furthermore, the estimation of the difference between CBT and skin temperature suggests that the estimation method may have accounted for individual variations within the data. Implementing the proposed method in increasingly popular smart rings and watches could facilitate the acquisition of CBT in daily life.

Resumen
A ubiquitous experiment to characterize the formability of sheet metal is the standard uniaxial tension test. Past research [1–3] has shown that if the material is repeatedly bent and unbent during this test (termed Continuous-Bending-under-Tension, or CBT), the percent elongation at failure increases significantly (e.g., from 22% to 290% for an AISI 1006 steel [1]). However, past experiments have been conducted with a fixed stroke of the CBT device, which limits the formability improvements. This phenomenon has also been empirically observed in industry; the failure strains of a sheet which is passed through a drawbead (i.e., that has been bent and unbent three times before entering the die) are higher than those of the original sheet. Thus, the residual formability of the material after a specified number of CBT passes is of interest, to determine if multiple drawbeads would be beneficial in the process. Also of interest is the localization of the deformation during the process as this will provide a better physical understanding of the improved formability observed. In this paper, numerical simulations are presented to assess these effects. Results show that the formability during CBT is dictated by the uniaxial response of the material until the standard elongation at failure is exceeded. This limit can be exceeded by the CBT process. However, failure then occurs as soon as the CBT process is terminated. Also, the deformation is more uniformly distributed over the entire gauge length during the CBT process which leads to the increased elongations observed.

Resumen
Effectiveness of Group based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was investigated in a sample of 23 Iranian migrants living in Austria for an average 14 years and suffering from Major Depressive Disorder. The participants were randomized to: (1) individual CBT, (2) group based CBT and (3) wait-list control groups. Although the results showed a significant decrease in depression symptoms, no significant group differences were observed. The findings from this study suggest that the effectiveness of group based CBT may be influenced by Iranian socio-cultural characteristics.
