Resumen
El presente trabajo, al poner en valor el famoso San Bruno de Ribalta expuesto en el Museo de Bellas Artes y procedente de la Cartuja de Porta Coeli, subraya la incidencia de la imagen conceptual de esta pintura en otras obras posteriores. Entre ellas la escultura de I. Vergara de la capilla de la Universidad, la estampa debida a Vicente López para ser grabada por Vicente Capilla, así como el lienzo de San Bruno, existente en el Múseo de de la Ciudad, que presidió la capilla a él dedicada en la misma cartuja. Para la determinación de la autoría de este cuadro a favor de Vicente Castelló y Amat ha resultado clave verificar la correspondencia con el boceto perteneciente al Museo Lázaro Galdiano, adquirido, con otros veinticinco, a los herederos del pintor. Tambien se ha podido constatar, documentalmente, otros encargos realizados por dicho Castelló y Amat para la citada cartuja, lo que permite asegurar asimismo ser éste el autor del fresco de dicha capilla de San Bruno. Tributario de la tabla de Ribalta, así como de la estampa de López, y por tanto, del lienzo de Castelló y Amat, resulta ser también un interesante cuadro de F. Mártinez Yago prácticamente desconocido.

Resumen
This article examines the ara coeli legend, a tale in which the Tiburtine Sibyl showed Emperor Augustus a vision of a virgin holding a child proclaiming the child’s greatness. Based on both texts and art works, mainly from the Holy Roman Empire, it argues that the legend owed its widespread popularity to the way in which it was grafted onto the fifteenth-century Marian cult. While flourishing in coexistence with the humanist reconsideration of the Sibylline heritage, this incorporation into popular belief ultimately led to the legend’s decline during the Reformation, as reformers and later Catholic theologians revised Mary’s role in the unfolding of Christian salvation. In the face of Protestant and post-Tridentine theology, the ara coeli legend thus subsided into religious irrelevance, giving way to political, mythological, and gendered interests in the Sibyls.

Resumen
La Cartuja de Porta Coeli conserva un claustro gótico que, pese a sus reducidas dimensiones y aparente sencillez, destaca por su belleza compositiva y sofisticada manufactura de cantería. Es, además, una obra especialmente singular en el contexto de la arquitectura medieval valenciana. El carácter eremítico de la orden Cartujana alejada de todo contacto con el mundo exterior, ha mantenido prácticamente intacto hasta nuestros días este exquisito ejemplo arquitectónico donde conviven la tradición de la cantería con la albañilería estructural. El presente texto muestra los resultados del análisis gráfico y documental realizado, restituyendo por medio del levantamiento, las leyes compositivas y la traza como método gráfico de diseño. El artículo, pues, plantea un primer estudio sobre este espacio arquitectónico, situándolo en el contexto de la cantería valenciana, en el momento de los grandes maestros canteros, y, además, pretende realizar un acercamiento fundado al descubrimiento de su autoría.

Resumen
Fundada en 1585 en el pueblo de El Puig (Valencia), la cartuja de Ara Christi es fruto de una larga historia constructiva que se dilata desde el año 1620, fecha en la que se realizan sus trazas, hasta finales del siglo XVIII. Gracias a la abundante documentación conservada (crónicas históricas y libros de gastos de la obra) se ha podido describir el proceso de edificación de este monasterio, en cuya fábrica trabajaron los maestros de obras y artistas más renombrados de la Valencia de los siglos XVII y XVIII.

Resumen
The sacristy of the monastic Church of St. Francis (Sveti Frane) in Zadar, held by the Franciscan Province of Saint Jerome, holds a painting by Lazzaro Bastiani, a Venetian painter of the early Renaissance. The painting is venerated as a depiction of the Virgin of Mercy (Ara Coeli). The upper section of the painting features the Blessed Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus. The Virgin is shown sitting in a mandorla made of angels with a crescent beneath her feet. God the Father is placing a crown on her head. Two angels are holding the ends of her outspread cloak, in front of which are saints: the men on the right and the women on the left. A church is depicted against the backdrop of a hilly landscape. It is positioned on a mound, with a railing ending in a staircase leading to it. The lower section of the painting features three groups, all genuflecting: men to the left, children in the middle, and women to the right. The group of men is dominated by the figure of Pope Sixtus IV (1471‒1484). Even after 175 years of research, the following questions remain contested: • the dating of the painting and the date of its arrival in Zadar • the identification of the patrons and the interpretation of the painting’s symbolism • the identification of the shrines depicted in the painting, and, finally • the identification of the historical figures featured. The aim of the authors is to try to elucidate, at least in part, the theological and historical context of the painting’s production, and to identify the historical figures and the shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary depicted therein.
