Resumen
Over the past decade, an increasing number of linguists have been turning their attention toward the plight of endangered languages. We are realizing that most of the small indigenous languages of the world are in great danger of disappearing over the coming century, if they have not already disappeared. Nor are linguists alone in their concern; the media have become interested in the issue, as have international organizations – like UNESCO, the European Union, and even national governments that have in the past been instruments of the demise of indigenous languages. Clearinghouses are being set up (e.g. the International Clearing House for Endangered Languages at Tokyo University), and funds such as the Endangered Languages Fund. Most active in fighting language extinction are members of the affected communities themselves, who are working on their own, or forging new kinds of partnerships with linguists, in an effort to reverse language shift. In the context of these movements, this excellent book is a welcome and crucial resource. The volume gathers together a set of valuable articles by a group including some of the best scholars in linguistics and some of the best native language teachers: Nancy Dorian, Nora and Richard Dauenhauer, Kaia'titahkhe Annette Jacobs, Colette Grinevald, Marianne Mithun, Ken Hale, Christopher Jocks, Anthony Woodbury, Carol Myers-Scotton, and Nikolai Vakhtin. It is a must-read for anyone – native, linguist, teacher, or policy maker – who is involved with issues of language loss, maintenance, or revitalization.

Resumen
To inaugurate our series of conversations with scholars in journalism studies with a view to securing some useful insights into the history and practice of journalism education, Prof. Richard Lance Keeble appeared an obvious choice. Now an Honorary Professor at Liverpool Hope University, Prof. Keeble was first director of the International Journalism MA, then director of the Journalism and Social Science BA, at City University, London (1984-2003). He was then appointed Professor of Journalism (2003-present) at Lincoln University where he also became acting head of the Lincoln School of Journalism (2010-2013) and later a Visiting Professor at Liverpool Hope University (2015-2019). Prof. Keeble has been the recipient of prestigious and distinguished prizes, namely the National Teaching Fellowship Award (2011) and the Lifetime Achievement Award for services to journalism education (2014), the latter bestowed by the Association for Journalism Education in the UK. Parallel to his academic career, Prof. Keeble has always been a practising journalist. On completion of his studies in Modern History at Keble College, Oxford University (1967-70), he started a career in journalism, first as sub editor at the Nottingham Guardian Journal/Evening Post (1970-73) and then at the Cambridge Evening News (1973-77). He was deputy editor, then editor, of The Teacher, the weekly newspaper of the National Union of Teachers (1977-84). His dual pedigree in journalism, as a practitioner and a professor, led him to take on many editorial responsibilities. He is emeritus editor of Ethical Space: The International Journal of Communication and Ethics and joint editor of George Orwell Studies and is also on the board of an impressive number of journals, among which are Journalism Studies, Digital Journalism, Journalism Education, International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics, Media Ethics, Journalism: Theory, Practice & Criticism, to name just a few. Prof. Keeble was also Chair of the Orwell Society1 (2013-2020) and has authored or edited no less than 44 books. They include Ethics for Journalists and The Newspapers Handbook,2 respectively on their second and fifth editions, as well as several volumes on George Orwell, investigative journalism, and the British media. It was an honour and privilege to talk to Prof. Keeble in a phone interview on March 25, 2021. The conversation was transcribed while some passages were edited for clarity. I hereby express my immense gratitude for his time, generosity, expertise, and humour. It is such a thrill to start our series of interviews in a way that only makes us want more such conversations.

Resumen
Since ancient times India has been a multilingual society and languages in India have thrived though at times many races and religions came into conflict. The states in modern India were reorganised on linguistic basis in 1956 yet in contrast to the European notion of one language one nation, majority of the states have more than one official language. The Linguistic Survey of India (LSI) conducted by Grierson between 1866 and 1927 identified 179 languages and 544 dialects. The first post-independence Indian census after (1951) listed 845 languages including dialects. The 1991 Census identified 216 mother tongues were identified while in 2001 their number was 234. The three-language formula devised to maintain the multilingual character of the nation and paying due attention to the importance of mother tongue is widely accepted in the country in imparting the education at primary and secondary levels. However, higher education system in India impedes multilingualism. According the Constitution it is imperative on the “Union to promote the spread of the Hindi language, to develop it so that it may serve as a medium of expression for all the elements of the composite culture of India … by drawing, wherever necessary or desirable, for its vocabulary, primarily on Sanskrit and secondarily on other languages.” However, the books translated into Hindi mainly from English have found favour with neither the students nor the teachers. On the other hand the predominance of English in various competitive examinations has caused social discontent leading to mass protests and cases have been filed in the High Courts and the Supreme Court against linguistic imperialism of English and Hindi. The governments may channelize the languages but in a democratic set up it is ultimately the will of the people that prevails. Some languages are bound to suffer a heavy casualty both in the short and long runs in the process. References Basil, Bernstein. (1971). Resumen
Ladd's Intonational phonology is a substantial addition to an area that has only recently ‘arrived’. Fortunately for the field of intonational phonology, the past two decades have seen a number of seminal contributions from phonologists, including Mark Liberman, Gösta Bruce, Janet Pierrehumbert and Ladd himself. Work on intonation, which has advanced in sync with modern linguistic theory, can also look back on quite a number of rather specific studies by phoneticians and rather general descriptive accounts by linguists and English teachers on this continent and in Europe. The book's basic goal is to present the subject matter of intonational phonology to the non-specialist linguist. The material is not only summarised but also accompanied by critical comments. Ladd's goal of keeping the book accessible to the non-specialist may limit the depth of the presentation of the basic material and the definitiveness of the critical comments, but for many this will be a reasonable price to pay for breadth of coverage.

In this paper, we present and explore the case of the Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU), an independent, directly democratic, and feminist labor union at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. Operating continuously since the 1970s, we argue that TSSU is an important example of the ways in which gender and class have intersected within the history of the Canadian labor movement, and a fascinating case of a longstanding socialist feminist union. We also argue that alongside the historical relevance, exploring the constraints and possibilities of a feminist nonhierarchical organizational structure can offer important lessons for organizing in the twenty-first century. Adopting a socialist feminist framework, we speak from our experiences serving as TSSU executives, as graduate students, and as teachers within the larger academic machine. Marking its fortieth year in 2018, this active, young, and angry labor union can provide the labor movement and academics with a case study to reflect on how we can conceptualize social movement unionism; organize around and toward equity, diversity, and justice; and maintain a deep commitment to both feminist and class struggle.

Resumen
The study examined the extent of collective bargaining in fostering teachers’ welfare in public primary schools in Moshi Municipal, Tanzania. Guided by systems approach theory by Burtalanffy in 1937, the study employed convergent research design whereby the target population included 791 public primary school teachers and 15 teacher’s union leaders in Moshi Municipality. Stratified sampling and simple random sampling techniques were used to select 78 teachers while 5 teacher’s union leaders were purposively included in the study to make a total sample of 83 respondents. Questionnaires, document analysis guide and interview guide were used to collect data. Quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics such as frequencies, means, and percentages and presented in tables with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23. Validity of instrument done by two experts in education administration from Mwenge Catholic University. Reliability of qualitative data done by use of Cronbach-alpha and coefficient is 0.932, for qualitative instrument the aspect of conformability employed. The qualitative data were analyzed by developing themes from research questions and presented in narrative form and direct quotations. The study found that teachers union averagely uses collective bargaining to negotiate the benefit of its members as it is expected by its members as the union negotiate for increase of allowances, promotion of teachers, better pay of housing allowances to its members, workshops and training to teachers, adequate compensation on accident and injuries. The study concluded that teacher’s union normally uses collective bargaining to negotiate the benefit of its members as expected by her members. The study recommends that teachers’ union should ensure the security of workers and effective communication should be encouraged between management and employees.

Resumen
In higher education, evaluating educational service quality from students’ perspective is vital to pinpoint institutional strengths and identify areas for improvement. The main purpose of this study was to examine students’ perspective towards education service quality of a public University in Ethiopia. Using qualitative case study design, the study employed purposive sampling technique to select participants including regular undergraduate students, student union representatives, teachers, department heads, college deans and student service directorate director. Semi-structured interview was conducted with twenty participants, consisting of six teachers, four student union representatives, five department heads, four college deans and one student service directorate director. Meanwhile, focus group discussion was conducted with twelve purposefully selected students. The thematic qualitative data revealed that students’ perception towards educational service quality of the University was found to be poor. This study further uncovered that poor provision of educational services affects students’ learning. Based on the findings, conclusions, recommendations and directions for further studies were forwarded.

Resumen
The publication under review is the outcome of a Princeton University conference entitled “Unemployment's Effects” held in 1997. The themes of the chapters extend widely. Some authors focus on broad discussions of the possibilities for the “European model” to survive in a global economic setting, while others look at specific relations, for example, between unemployment and trade union strength, in just one European country. Some chapters have clear theoretical objectives, while others have a focus on empirical detail and statistical analysis. On the other hand, the majority of the chapters are related by a general positive view on the sustainability of the European model, even in the seemingly hostile environment of the global economy. Although the European welfare states and labor markets are often accused of being inflexible and hampered by “institutional sclerosis,” they may also foster the development of a soft and kind capitalism—or organized managed economy—as Nancy Bermeo puts it in her introduction to the book.

Objectives and Requirements for the IGCSE, AS and A Level in Some Coursebooks Designed for These Exams. The IGCSE, AS and A level Spanish exams are exams of different language levels that belong to the Cambridge curriculum. Romanian students and not only, in some private secondary schools, can choose either this type of exam or the national high school exam, both of which offer the possibility of university entrance. In addition to the syllabus, Cambridge provides teachers and students with materials for preparation, assessment and self-assessment. Likewise, teachers have training courses and interaction with other teachers. The Cambridge coursebooks used in a private school in Romania, Transylvania College, are analyzed, the purpose of this study being to observe how they are reflected and if the objectives and requirements of the curriculum are met in the content of the manuals studied. Regarding the content and activities proposed in the manuals, we intend to check how they meet the needs of the students and finally, how they prepare them for those exams. Keywords: objectives, requirements, content, Cambridge, manuals, syllabus

Resumen
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has affected higher education. Students now receive new tools that optimize the performance of current tasks. Universities have also begun implementing AI technologies to help university teachers and improve the quality of educational services and solve the Sustainable Development Goal 4. Hypothetically, it is possible to replace university teachers by using AI technologies. This is a hidden conflict of Sustainable Development Goal 4 and Sustainable Development Goal 8. This research aimed to examine the perceptions of Eastern European students about the possibility of replacing university teachers through AI technologies. The authors used an information study with a bibliometric analysis of 2000 sources, planning the experiments and compiling the questionnaire, surveying 599 students using an electronic questionnaire and cloud technologies, statistical processing questionnaires using Excel tables, and verifying statistical hypotheses. Verification of statistical hypotheses for replies of 599 respondents showed that more than 10% of the surveyed students from Eastern European universities are confident that AI will replace university teachers in five years. It was shown that the opinions of students in the 1st stage (undergraduate study) from the countries of the European Union and countries outside the European Union have significant differences. The obtained results were proven using one-sided testing and standard hypothesis testing level, α = 0.05. The article was completed with multilevel managerial and pedagogical recommendations. These recommendations are designed to increase higher education’s sustainability in AI implementation.

Resumen
Summer 2023 began with the NATS voice pedagogy trip to England that began with a mini-conference that brought together 110 voice teachers from eight countries. Our tour group visited three music preparatory schools and two music universities. Celebrating the English choral tradition, we heard rehearsals or services at Eton College, St. Paul’s Cathedral, King’s College, Cambridge, and Trinity College, Cambridge. Overlapping the Pedagogy Trip, the NATS Intern Program was held at West Chester University, where five Master Teachers worked with sixteen Interns. Next, the NATS Board gathered in Florida for our annual meeting. In late June, the inaugural NATS Science-Informed Voice Pedagogy Institute was held at Utah State University where clinicians presented a wealth of information to fifty-five attendees. July 7–9, we gathered in San Diego for the Summer Workshop. Sessions focused on a variety of repertoire; in addition, the 2023 NSA Finals were held. In mid-July, the South Africa NATS Chapter held their first conference at Stellenbosch University in Cape Town.
