Resumen
This paper analyzes the current relationship between Peruvian teenagers and television. The information accessed from various sources concluded that adolescents are consuming television extensively, especially the poorer within the country. Teens appreciate the cable television as a source of learning, and its variety and ability to relate it with the world. The interest in cartoons, movies and series –fiction genre in general– affirms the value of this media in society as well as the possibility to make them more familiar with their environment. Information about what happens beyond their localities is a source of reference in their perception of the country. Beyond the cultural conflict from which is generally assessed from the effects that television may have on the rural world, television has a positive sign for the visual deterritorialization, which dissolves the natural relationship between culture and territory. In rural areas, parents and teenagers evaluate television positively because it offers more than just the school itself. In the midst of academic and professional criticism on television, adolescents do not distinguish between traditional media and new media, they are all integrated into their daily lives.

XXI Century television is undergoing a process of transformation. New actors, new products and new ways of consuming television are on the lookout. Interactivity will make the traditional concept of television disappear. Television viewers can design their own grids independently of the operator’s schedule. The convergence of television and computer, Internet, telephone and video games bring us a new concept of television. Television faces two big transformations: digital transformation and that of the concept of «general public». The computer, the computer screen, has the calling of turning into a reception screen in which both computer and television functions fuse. Latest generation mobile telephony is integrating itself is this multimedia complex, in connection with television. Future television cannot dissociate from the Internet.

Immediate access to patient data is essential to support good clinical decision making and support. However, away from the surgery, the doctor is currently unable to have any access to the clinical database. Solutions exist to support remote access, such as modems or radio data networks, but these are slow, with typical speeds in the 2–10 kbaud region. We propose a novel solution, to use the TV cable already installed in many homes. Using this technology, a suitably equipped computer (RF modem) is capable of connecting at speeds in excess of 500 kbaud and will run applications in exactly the same way as if connected to a surgery network: the cable TV becomes a LAN, but on a metropolitan scale. Brunei University, in collaboration with the Cable Corporation, has been piloting such a network. Issues include not only levels of service, but also security on the network and access, since the data are being effectively received in every home. However, close scrutiny of channel use can create closed networks reserved for specific users. The technology involves use of an RF modem to transmit data on a reverse channel (based at 16 MHz) on each subnet to a router at the head end of the cable network. This frequency translates the packet and retransmits it to all the subnets on a forward channel (based at 178 MHz). Each channel occupies the bandwidth normally allocated to one TV channel. Access is based on a modified CSMA/CD protocol, so treating the cable network as single multiple access network. The modem comes as a standard card installed in a PC and appears much as an ethemet card, but at reduced speed. With an NDIS driver it is quite able to support almost any network software, and has successfully demonstrated Novell and TCP/IP. We describe the HomeWorker™ network and the results from a pilot study being undertaken to determine the performance of the system and its impact on working practice.

Resumen
This essay explores the production, content, and reception of Nickelodeon’s sitcom Taina (2000–01). Created by Maria Perez-Brown, a Latina pioneer in cable television, Taina ran for two seasons and foregrounded a Puerto Rican teenage girl at a performing arts high school in New York City. Guided by an intersectional feminist media studies analysis, I argue that Taina presages the rise of girls’ tween and teen shows on cable television and paved the way for contemporary representations of Latina girlhood in mainstream broadcast, cable, and streaming television. Taina is rarely cited in the history of Latina/o television or children’s television. This essay re-centers Taina as a critical intervention into children’s television and as a leading forerunner in Latina television production. I also highlight the labor of fans in shedding light on Taina’s obscured history, creating new ways of engagement with television of the past, and demanding new representations of Latinas.

Resumen
We measure the welfare distortions from endogenous quality choice in imperfectly competitive markets. For US cable television markets between 1997–2006, prices are 33 percent to 74 percent higher and qualities 23 percent to 55 percent higher than socially optimal. Such quality overprovision contradicts classic results in the literature and our analysis shows that it results from the presence of competition from high-end satellite TV providers: without the competitive pressure from satellite companies, cable TV monopolists would instead engage in quality degradation. For welfare, quality overprovision implies cable customers would prefer smaller, lower-quality cable bundles at a lower price, amounting to a twofold increase in consumer surplus for the average consumer.

A comparison of television viewing in the 1982–1989 years shows a steady decline of network news viewers, especially among those with pay television. A comparable decline is not found for local broadcast news. The increase in viewing of CNN and the related Headline News was steady, but mostly accounted for by the general expansion of cable, now in about 60% of American homes. One could argue that cable either merely diverts audiences from the traditional networks or that cable services actually win over audiences from the networks in head-to-head competition, and this study finds some evidence that cable is winning the competition.

This study assessed the relationship between broadcasting and the attendance of minor league hockey games in terms of 5 media forms: cable television broadcasting, commercial television broadcasting, radio broadcasting, broadcasters, and overall broadcasting media. A random sample of spectators (N= 2,225) responded to a survey on attendance level and media use conducted in the arena during the intermissions of games from 6 second-half 1994-1995 season home games of an International Hockey League (ML) team. CM-square, f-test, and regression analyses revealed that viewing home games on cable television and away games on commercial television, listening to games on radio, and the quality of television and cable broadcasters were all positively associated with attendance, with approximately 6-11% game attendance variance explained. It is concluded that the current broadcasting arrangement is positively related to game attendance in providing information for and increasing the interests of spectators.

Resumen
With the historical televised first presidential debates of John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon, television made its national debut as a political influence. Television became a third player in the debates in the way it filmed the candidates. Kennedy and Nixon respectively served as models of effective and ineffective presentations of oneself on the electronic screen. Because of this event, “The Image” emerged as part of the sensibility for any public figure as well as an intrinsic part of the political lexicon. Kennedy, as President, also developed a model of his frequent usage of television as an outreach connection to the public. A few years later television became the dominant media when it presented the Vietnam War to the viewers’ living rooms. This sparked a series of protests not only anti-draft but from other movements: civil rights, black protest, student rights, women’s rights in a society that was becoming part of an unprecedented information age. Television not only reported these events, it repeated its visual imagery which helped to reinforce changing norms in our society. Fifty-five years later, Donald Trump, known for his television celebrity as well as his reputation as a successful businessman, became an unusual marker of reality about public tolerance and acceptance, largely helped by cable television and its effect after fifty-five years of viewers and the additional factor of hundreds of cable channels. Kennedy, Nixon and Trump serve as bookends for television’s prominent and definitely mediated influence on American history.

Resumen
Before the recent adoption, by the Council of Ministers of the EEC, of a directive concerning EEC ‘television law’, technical developments in the European television industry were definitely outpacing legal ones. The emergence of cable and satellite television encouraged both broadcasting companies and advertisers to start operating on a European, instead of merely on a national level. This happened at first in a legal void which was eventually partly filled by the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Communities. Amongst others the relevant cases are the Sacchi Case and Debauve Case. The former established inter alia that the articles of the Treaty of Rome governing the free provision of services, also apply to television transmissions. The latter states that the same applies to cable television services.

The rise of online video-sharing has been surrounded by discourse about the decline of broadcast television's role for content delivery and advertising revenue. Amidst discussions of ‘piracy’ and debates about new audience measurement techniques and user-generated content, official and unofficial platforms for the distribution of television content have emerged. Some of these sites — like ‘internet TV’ projects such as the Participatory Culture Foundation's Miro TV player — have positioned themselves directly in opposition to television itself, orienting themselves as alternatives or replacements for the broadcast-and-cable-delivered-to-your-set experience. Others — such as CBS's Innertube — attempt to reapply network logics to the online space. Interrogating how the term ‘television’ succeeds or fails to describe these services helps to contextualise the object of television itself, as well as exploring the insights new services provide into audiencehood, national broadcasting and the community-forming roles television has traditionally played.

Resumen
The article surveys the results of the third edition of the “Great Digit”, a national award for the achievements in the sphere of cable and satellite broadcasting, which enables us to analyze the trends of their development. Despite the considerable increase in the number of new digital channels their limited budgets lead to the absence of fiction content on commercial television. This fact affects both the competition in the commercial TV segment and their opposition to ground broadcasting setting promising prospects for developing “niche” television.

Resumen
Alfred D. Chandler, Jr., observed that under managerial capitalism, salaried managers tended to pursue policies that promoted the long-term stability and growth of their enterprises. The U.S. cable television industry provides a case study of how managers responded when stability and growth were mutually consistent objectives, and when they were mutually exclusive. From the late 1950s through the early 1980s, agent-led newspaper publishers and television broadcasters invested aggressively in the cable business. Beginning in the mid-1980s, however, investing in cable implied a tradeoff between stability and growth objectives. As a wave of mergers swept the cable industry, agent-led companies avoided acquisitions that might dilute earnings and depress stock prices. Confronting an increasingly turbulent competitive environment during the first half of the 1990s, agent-led companies were much more likely to divest cable assets than owner-managed firms. In agent-led companies, managers believed that their cable units would require massive capital investments, and they were reluctant to “bet the company” on a business facing so much competitive, technological, and regulatory uncertainty. Owner-managers, emotionally attached to the cable industry and to the firms they had built, and often harboring dynastic ambitions, were more reluctant to sell: they were willing to gamble on growth.

Resumen
The virtual cable television network is a cable television system with virtual assets, users in the network may have different authentication mechanisms. In order to meet corporate users across heterogeneous virtual, trusted domain request service is required. This paper proposes a bill based on the access authorization authentication scheme across heterogeneous domains. The scheme is based on VCA certification model, the Kerberos AS and the PKI domain as the domain where the CA Enterprise Domain external authentication node, generate its extracellular domain users access, the domain resources authorization bill and the session key, and then realize PKI and Kerberos cross-domain authentication ,domain user and session key agreement. Article on the safety and efficiency of the program are analyzed. Analysis shows that this scheme can resist various attacks, with high security, and higher than the efficiency of alternative solutions for virtual cable television network, efficient resource sharing of cross-domain security provides an effective solution.

Resumen
As the televised Watergate hearings captivated the nation during the summer of 1973, they provided innovative programming that stimulated civic activism and taught Congress about the political power of television. Both of these developments ultimately boosted the fortunes of the cable television industry. The Senate hearings, which initiated a dramatic conclusion to a presidency that redefined the place of media in American political life, served to elevate a national conversation about the role of television in politics and to catalyze, across the political spectrum, a reconsideration of the structure of the broadcast network oligopoly. The post-Watergate era provided multiple opportunities to reimagine cable TV as a tool to assert political leadership, encourage civic engagement, and govern the public.
