Resumen
As several generations of politicians successively acted as leaders of the Romanian National Party (PNR) in Transylvania, particularly the tribunists (1884-1892) and the new activists or “steel-hardened young men” (1903-1914), the economic, cultural, and political life of Romanians in Transylvania became more similar to that of Romanians in the Kingdom of Romania. From an economic perspective, both theorists in Transylvania and Romania were fostering the idea of a liberal “Ourselves alone” doctrine after 1900. Economic policies were established based on the resolutions adopted following the proceedings of the Economic Congresses in Iași, between 1882 and 1884. Fundamental assumptions were derived from banking and financial arguments based on the numerous and meaningful business relationships established between the National Bank of Romania and the Solidaritatea Banking Union in Sibiu, comprising almost all the Romanian banks in Transylvania.

Resumen
AbstractDespite the difficulties of the economic environment and the challenges encountered, family businesses in Romania are drivers of economic growth. The tumultuous history and the cultural differences have impacted the way businesses are conducted and how decisions are made, especially in family-run companies, influencing how the family aspect is being portrayed and turned into a competitive advantage. The purpose of this paper is to determine how these contextual factors are influencing the promotion of the family aspect in the family business brand. The methodology of this paper is the exploratory qualitative interview-based study. Empirical data has been collected by way of in-depth semi-structured interviews with eleven Romanian family business owners or managers selected through non-probability purposive sampling, further analysed using content analysis technique. Results suggest that Romania’s cultural background directly affects family businesses and the way they promote their family image, identity and reputation. Although this has a positive effect, few Romanian family businesses are active and promote themselves on the marketplace as a family business. Romanian families have a high degree of autonomy and accountability in relation to local communities which can help or impede the development of a family brand because both families and communities require transparency and there is a high degree of uncertainty which can impact both the business and the family owners. The reference to current literature primarily relates to the position of the family in the business but most notably to branding. The role of family members is drawn to limit actions in certain aspects of promotion and branding, as a direct result of high-conservative views.

Resumen
Abstract Research and Development investments are critical to fostering innovation, driving economic growth, and achieving sustainable development goals. Horizon 2020 is the largest European Union research and innovation program, which has funded numerous R&D projects across different countries. This paper presents a comparative study of R&D investments in Romania and the EU, based on insights from Horizon 2020 projects. Using a composite indicator approach, we assess Romania’s performance in the R&D sector and compare it with other EU countries. The paper provides an overview of the number of projects and entities that participated in Horizon 2020, with a focus on the Romanian business sector. Our findings indicate that the success rate of Romanian projects is slightly higher than the EU average, and there is a significantly higher percentage of Romanian business sector entities that have participated in Horizon 2020 than in the EU. Moreover, some limitations of the Romanian R&D sector are highlighted, such as the low level of R&D expenditure, one of the lowest in the EU, and the low involvement of the business sector in funding R&D, despite being the primary sector under Horizon 2020. The comparative analysis sheds light on the opportunities and challenges for Romania in improving the performance of its R&D sector. By providing a comparative analysis of the performance of Romania and other EU countries in Horizon 2020 projects we can gain insights which can be useful for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners in developing and implementing policies and strategies to improve R&D investments.

Resumen
Abstract This study aimed to validate the I-ADAPT scale to assess the individual adaptability to work within the Romanian population. Both a pilot study and a main study were conducted on a total sample of 966 Romanians. Following the application of standard scale validation procedures, the results of our study indicated that the I-ADAPT measure of work adaptability has good psychometric properties on the Romanian population. Our findings provide evidence that I-ADAPT continues to explain the unique variance in adaptability to work even if work patterns in the Covid-19 pandemic context moved more and more from a traditional to a virtual work environment. ROa I-ADAPT measure has excellent properties concerning convergent, discriminant, and criterion-related validity. One main finding was that the “Physical” dimension of adaptability to work had no empirical support in the Romanian population. Moreover, our results indicate that the “interpersonal adaptability” and the “cultural adaptability” dimensions cannot be empirically separated in the Romanian population. To our knowledge, this is the first validated instrument that can be used to assess the individual adaptability of Romanians in the context of work. Our study is relevant for decision-makers in Romania and such actors in other EU-member countries where Romanians represent the largest group of working-age EU citizens.

Resumen
Abstract The research objective is to study how Romanian and Dutch organizations’ business models have changed under COVID-19 conditions. The role of digitalization in adapting business models and business practices is studied. The theoretical background reviews literature about business models and their dimensions. Literature review investigated digitalization in Romanian and Dutch organizations. Research questions were: To what extent do Romanian and Dutch organizations use: • more digital methods in their offer to their clients now than before the crisis? • more digital methods in their business processes now than before the crisis? • more digital methods in communicating with their clients now than before the crisis? To what extent are there any significant differences between Romanian and Dutch organizations regarding the use of digital methods? Using qualitative and quantitative methods, conclusions show that Romanian and Dutch organizations adapted their business models to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis by applying digitalization in their value creation and value delivery using different digital methods. The frequency and choice of specific digital methods are in line with digitalization levels of Romania and The Netherlands as per the DESI index. In both countries, digitalization helped business models resilience although the level of digitalization in the organization’s country were significantly different.

Resumen
The sustainable consumption and integration of digital solutions with respect to sustainable consumption have been encouraged by the new European circular economy action plan. Digital adoption has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic; companies have been challenged to rapidly adapt to the constant evolution of consumer needs and expectations, leading to valuable insights into the advancement of green business practices and a consequent rethinking of their business model. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the major shifts in sustainable consumer behavior on the Romanian retail market within the context of the Green European Deal, and retailers’ priorities in agilely adapting to these significant evolutions. Based on a comprehensive literature review on these major shifts and significant evolutions at the national and international levels, a quantitative study was carried out to evaluate the Romanian retail market and identify the major challenges faced by retailers in dealing with the new set of priorities. The data collection was conducted via a survey used in the retail environment, applied within a Romanian supermarket chain. The Romanian retail sector has a particular configuration, which may have an impact upon the study’s generalizability. Located in Central and Eastern Europe at the crossroads of the EU, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), and the Middle East, Romania is a leading destination for foreign direct investment, and it is recognized for the similarities of its distribution and sales channels, the range of its retail outlets, and the local retail market dominance on the Big Box segment by reputed major retailers. A spectacular evolution is recorded in Romania’s e-commerce market, including from the point of view of the long-standing and memorable traditional relationship between Romania and China which was confirmed more recently by Romanian consumers who prefer to buy online from stores in China. Our consumer research provides retailers with deep consumer insights with regard to their priorities in their agile adaptation. According to our research, Romanian consumers are environmentally concerned consumers, displaying an increased awareness about the important role they play with respect to impacting sustainable production and consumption by adopting green purchase behavior. Our study also points to the fact that retailers, although faced with challenges in targeting consumers with customized messages to reinforce their brand perception on sustainability issues, do pay considerable attention to sustainability as a personal value embraced by consumers and are willing to focus on digitizing their business processes to enable new, sustainable business models.

AbstractThe paper analyzes transnational Romanians’ stories about their first trip abroad. The concept of physical mobility is seen in a broader framework for understanding transnational and cosmopolitan behaviours as well as international migration. In order to distinguish between different types of travelling for the first trip abroad the article is constructed keeping in mind the structural changes and constraints regarding physical mobility for Romanian citizens. During the process of transition from a communist country to the status of EU member, Romanian citizens’ stories about travelling abroad for the first time fundamentally changed. Labour migrants, asylum seekers, business travellers, students or tourists left the countries with different expectations and faced different problems at destination. Their attitudes toward origin and destination framed their images about the first trip abroad. Using a qualitative approach and samples of Romanians who live in Denmark, Germany, Italy, Romania, Spain and the United Kingdom, the analysis emphasizes certain differences between different types of travelling for the first time abroad and reconstructs how Romanians started their transnational careers

Resumen
Dropshipping means online trading through a supplier that delivers on behalf of your company. The supplier is the one who handles all the physical activities, respectively storage, warehousing, packaging and delivery. The selling company only has to deal with the actual sale of the products, the creation of an online store, the conception of a brand and the promotion. Thinking about the Romanian market, in the context in which companies like Amazon or similar are not yet active, one may fall to the conclusion that dropshipping in Romania could be a huge opportunity. By dropshipping you can introduce new products on the local Romanian market and you can experience a new business model that does not involve as many risks as traditional business models. In this paper, our main goal was to identify a business model for the Romanian market, one that involves multiple advantages, such as: - Less spending with a lower risk. - An easy and cheap way to start a business - There is no financial experience and expertise is required. • You can keep in check your business quite easily. - You can build a real brand through a relatively safe method, with limited risks. As for methodologies, I used the SWOT analysis, wanting to find out whether this type of business fits the Romanian economic climate. The research conclusions highlighted the undisputed opportunities of dropshipping, but also the fact that there is a feeling of distrust in this type of business, given the fact that in Romania it is at the beginning of the road.

Resumen
The study investigates the Romanian entrepreneurial education training program emphasizing the secondary education student entrepreneurial intents included in technical and professional Vocational Education Training (VET) programs, in order to identify its role in increasing student intention in the process of choosing a career as an entrepreneur among graduates of the vocational and technical Romanian education system. The study research methodology was based on the interpretation of two questionnaires consisting of 23 questions, which were applied to a population of 253 and 159 respondents. The survey period was conducted between 2019 and 2020. The respondents were students from the vocational and technical education system in Romania, mostly from the Central Region of Romania, but the results of the study could be extended to the entire Romanian education system. The data were processed using SPSS software, and the results of the study revealed direct, positive, and significant links between psychological and behavioral traits and entrepreneurial intentions of the student surveyed, moderated by the entrepreneurial education acquired through the school curriculum. These results could also be the basis for developing future policies and programs to encourage entrepreneurial behavior, especially for secondary education students from the Romanian education system, specifically on pre-university education.

Resumen
Romania is one of the main countries of origin for intra-European migration. The national authorities recently implemented the first major program —Diaspora Start-up—to support the business initiatives of Romanian citizens who live abroad and who are interested in opening a business in their home country. This scheme was developed in parallel with a broader program—Romania Start-up Plus—which was designed to support the entrepreneurial initiatives of individuals residing inside the country. These programs have already supported over 8,600 non-agricultural start-ups created in urban areas. This study conducted a comparative analysis of the two programs based on different criteria and explored their regional dynamics regarding the emergence of start-ups and the prevalence of creative industries companies. The analysis highlighted important regional differences within Romania and revealed that the Diaspora Start-up program registered a statistically significant lower level of businesses registered as part of the creative industries. The results support the formulation of a hypothesis of negative selectivity within the programs designed to support Romanian migrants’ entrepreneurship, but further research is needed to test this hypothesis.

Resumen

Developing countries are quite attractive destinations for foreign investments in various economic sectors.Whether an MNC can successfully enter these markets embodies the aptitude to understand the external macroeconomic and social environment of the host country. An MNC must adjust their competitive stance, decipher adequate market potential and uncover the relevant entry strategy to acquire operational success. We have built a framework surrounded by essential operational strategy. This concerns matching a firm's resources and capabilities to the opportunities that arise in the external environment. In most common literature, emphasis lies within identification of profit opportunities in the external environment of the firm. Imperative emphasis shifts from the interface between strategy and the external environment; towards the interface between strategy and the internal environment. In this context, the concentration of the organization's resources and capabilities is targeted to combat turbulent external environments and devise a secure foundation for long term strategy. To understand why the resource-based view has had a major impact on strategy assessment, a preceding glimpse for strategy formulation can be considered. Conventionally, firms have answered the question “who are our customers?” “What are their needs we're seeking to serve?” “Who are our Competitors?” “How can gain a competitive advantage?” Through answering these questions in conjunction with macroeconomic analysis are inevitable prerequisites for pinpointing the key success factors (KSF) for the individual market segments. The KSF are the factors within the company's market environment that determine its ability to prosper and survive exploiting its core resources.

Resumen
Background: Family businesses are shaping the world’s economy through contributions to establishing jobs, creating wealth, and competitiveness, correspondingly being influenced by the quality of the business environment. Family business branding is useful to understand how to leverage their unique resources and create a competitive advantage, these being shaped by the context. The historical events and economic factors of Romania are influencing the decision of family firms to portray their family in their branding endeavours in order to become more competitive. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to understand the reasoning behind the Romanian family companies’ decision to promote their family aspect in their brand and how do family business identity, image, and reputation relate to the brand in the context of Romania. For guidance, two research questions were developed in order to gain valuable and significant insights for this thesis. Method: Ontology – Relativism; Epistemology – Social constructionism; Approach – Inductive; Design – Exploratory; Methodological choice – Qualitative; Time Horizon – Cross-sectional; Strategy – Case-study; Data collection – In-depth Interviews; Sampling – Non-probability Purposive Samples based on criteria (eleven respondents); Data Analysis – Content Analysis. Conclusion: From findings, it can be concluded that the context of Romania has a direct impact on family businesses and on how they are conducting their family brand promotion. Even though it is considered to have a positive impact, few Romanian family businesses actively market themselves as a family business. The predominant factors affecting the decisional processes, which are shaped by the contextual effects according to the three brand dimensions, have been comprised in a model of influential factors.

Texto completo
Resumen
The present PhD thesis focuses on a series of unexpected consequences arising from the post-1989 policies for the parliamentary representation of small national minorities in Romania. These unexpected consequences – brought together by the media under the label of ‘ethno-business’ – include controversial practices whereby political entrepreneurs attempt to use the existing legal framework for the protection of national minorities in order to obtain material, financial or political gains. This topic is to date largely unresearched – the existing literature on cases of ‘ethno-business’ in Romania includes a handful of studies, some of which of problematic academic standard. The unexpected outcomes of the post-1989 policies for the political representation of national minorities in Romania fall principally under three categories: (a) the extreme fragmentation of the political environment of several national minorities; (b) the case of non-minority leaders, whereby political entrepreneurs who are not members of a national minority contest elections on a national minority mandate; (c) attempts by political entrepreneurs to re-construct ethnic identities largely assimilated, so as to enable them to stand for election on a minority mandate. This research addresses two main areas of concern. First, it seeks to clarify the causes which led to the emergence of the unexpected consequences outlined above, locating them in a historically instrumental approach of the Romanian state towards minority rights policies, as well as in a specific set of policies set up after 1989. A further aim of this research is to assess the effects of these unexpected consequences on the political representation of small minorities. Using Hanna Pitkin’s theory of representation as a framework of analysis, each of the three types of unexpected consequences will be analysed in relation to relevant case studies. Such an interpretation seeks to refine existing theories concerning ethnic parties and the political representation of national minorities in post-communist contexts.

Resumen
In Romania, the consideration that politicians use their influence to control the public procurement market is axiomatic. It is no surprise that the country ranks high in perceptionbased surveys or the low participation of firms on the procurement market. The more difficult task is to demonstrate the existence of restrictions to procurement contracts in order to benefit preferred companies. That is, to measure the extent to which the market is captured by favored companies. Employing data on all public procurement contracts in Romania for the period 2009 – 2015, this paper examines government favoritism in public procurement exerted by political parties. Using a dynamic panel data approach (Dávid-Barrett and Fazekas 2019), the companies are classified based on their winning pattern with respect to government change. Favoritism is observed if winning companies within the government period are also associated with a higher risk of corruption measured by two alternative approaches. The findings confirm that procurement market is captured in a low to moderate proportion (24%) and that the market display patterns of systematic favoritism. This may signal certain progress registered by Romania to combat political corruption. Arguably, the insensitivity of perception indicators with respect to this progress is, at least partly, due to media coverage of the on-going corruption investigations related to the past.

This dissertation consists of three stand-alone substantive chapters. It examines how various aspects of globalisation - openness to international trade, inflows of foreign direct investment and exposure to foreign demand shocks - affect economic performance through their impact on individual firms. The first substantive chapter presents a theoretical model of international trade with heterogeneous firms that differ not only by their productivity but also by the distortions they face. For a particular distribution of productivity and distortions, it shows that the distortions which affect the domestic and export sales in the same way and are correlated with productivity reduce the welfare gains from trade, while the distortions affecting only domestic sales tend to increase them. In addition, it documents that correlated distortions lead to a bias in an influential recent method for estimating the gains from trade. The following chapter empirically examines the link between the presence of multinational companies and the export sophistication of domestic firms in an emerging economy. The analysis is based on the matched firm and customs panel data from Romania covering the period 2005-11. The results show a positive relationship between the unit values of goods exported and imported by Romanian firms and the multinational companies' presence in downstream (input sourcing) industries. These results are consistent with quality upgrading being an additional channel through which local suppliers benefit from contacts with their multinational customers. The last chapter examines how Romanian manufacturing firms reacted to a dramatic drop in the export demand during the global trade collapse of 2008 and 2009. The exogenous effect of a fall in exports is identified by instrumenting exports with a firm-specific index of foreign demand. The results indicate that exporting firms were unable to redirect their sales to the domestic market and were forced to abruptly reduce their employment, material expenditure and investment, passing the shock to their suppliers. The results suggest that the export status of a firm may be a poor predictor of its vulnerability to a negative foreign demand shock.

1998 förvärvades företaget Urbis Security i Rumänien. Urbis Security blev sedermera införlivat i dotterbolaget Assa Abloy Romania.

Entrepreneurship has become a much discussed subject in the past years when the business world together with universities discovered that one of the factors that will help the national economy, level of innovation are the entrepreneurs. And even though there are different attitudes towards whether entrepreneurs are born or made, everyone agreed that the role of academic education is important in the creation of new entrepreneurs and developing them. Now the question is whether the universities in the way that they are conducting studies are able to offer the appropriate environment for an entrepreneur to develop or national culture has a more powerful impact on the young graduates’ entrepreneurial initiatives. The study attempts to understand how culture and education influence students to go towards an entrepreneurial career rather than preferring the security of a job. A qualitative research was conducted with groups of students from two different countries in order to better see the effects culture has, as it is an abstract concept. First, a literature review was conducted in order to clarify different concepts and to create the basis for the analysis and interpretation. Next, gathering the data- focus groups and interviews conducted with students- was an important step in being able to understand how culture and entrepreneurial education interact to each other. Afterwards, the analysis was made and the data gathered was examined through the theory previously chosen. The results lead to a framework, developed by the author, which explains the relationships between entrepreneurial education, culture and new venture creation- entrepreneurial intentions. Further research and recommendations were added at the end of the study to guide the future studies.

The international literature in this field argues that there is not a conventional definition nor a universally tested theory that can explain all forms of foreign-owned production (see, among others, Dunning, 1988b and 1993a, Ietto-Gillies, 2005 and 2007). In this complex context, a large amount of Italian literature has been published around the theoretical framework of internationalization of production of Italian companies abroad (Tattara, Corò and Volpe, 2006, Mariotti and Mutinelli, 2005, et.al.). Nevertheless, a limited number of quantitative studies are available about the topic of Italian firms “migration” in Romania - as a particular expression of productive internationalization of our companies in this Country (Majocchi, 2002, Unimpresa Romania, 2005 and Antenna Veneto Romania, 2005). Thus, in order to investigate it by an industrial policy perspective a multilevel modelling approach has been applied. In particular, a two level model has been used to determine the effects of Romanian regions (romanian judets) in which Italian manufacturing firms internationalized the production in 2009 on their industrial performance. Based on a business register-based survey a business register of the Italian business community in Romania has been created. The data on Italian manufacturing firms located in Romania in 2009 have been selected from this register. The dataset used for the analysis includes 796 cases of firms internationalized in Romania. Therefore, a two level model has been carried out in order to determine the effects of intra-industry characteristics of these firms (i.e. Firm size and Firm Industrial specialization) on their industrial performance in 2009 both at individual and area level. The model results have shown that: as the firms dimension increase they have to be extremely sensible in the choice of the romanian region in which they want to (de)localize the production. Furthermore, the choice of the romanian region of productive delocalization has to be chosen by firms according to their sectors of activity.

Resumen
The aim of this research is to assess the corruption impact on the Romanian economy, reflecting the reality in which the Romanian business develops its activities. Corruption, a term used by a large part of citizens, can be found in the public sector, as well as the private sector, influencing the smooth development of the economy. Regardless of the modern economy which is permanently evolving, the corruption is still the principal participant of a phenomenon who has an important influence despite of the continual strategies for limitation. In Romania, in the last 30 years of democracy, corruption developed faster and found new ways of appearance, which have slowed down the process of economic evolution of the Romanian society, creating a feeling of distrust in the state institutions and in the business environment. Also, with an anti-corruption legislation at global, regional and national level, who supposed to limit the fraud, it remains a clear point the fact that corruption couldn't be stopped, especially in business environment of Romania. The results of the study shown us that there are significant losses for the businesses and a disturbing of the economic cycle of the country. At the same time, we can approve the fact that businesses are an area of a predisposition to corruption. There are numerous possibilities for unethical behaviors that come with a numerous consequences who can affect the government and the citizens. It is therefore necessary to analyze the impact of corruption on business development.

Resumen
Social economy is essential for local or regional development. In Romania, social business is trying to scale, promoting the development of an alternative model of social inclusion for vulnerable groups. The establishment of a social enterprise represents a benefit both for the area in which it will carry out its activity and for the national economy as well, developing along with increasing the level of education and living of the population. Globally, in April 2023, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution “Promoting the Social and Solidarity Economy for Sustainable Development” (A/77/L.60) which provides an official definition of social and solidarity economy and it can contribute to the achievement and localization of sustainable development goals. Therefore, this paper aims to come up with proposals to empower Romanian entrepreneurs to develop social businesses in order to carry out activities that will represent a real gain for the community and an important step in solving various problems.

Resumen
The crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic around the world, including in Romania, accelerated processes that had been started for a long time, but which were progressing slowly. The representatives of the business environment hope for an emphasis on the digitization of the fiscal administration, for a new perspective on business models. Romania's startups are lagging in adopting digital technologies, according to DESI 2020 report. The biggest gaps are in the digitalization of internal organizational processes. Businesses with the highest level of digitization and digitalization secure opportunities at twice the rate of the least digitized ones. We conducted a study to identify the implications of social platforms and digitization in the development of entrepreneurship among young people. The researched aspects were the motivations for using the Internet and social platforms, the impact of digitalization on collaborative platforms in Romania and the connection between the Romanian entrepreneurial ecosystem and digitalization.

Texto completo
Resumen
As a trend of evolution, the labor force in the Romanian forestry sector is part of trajectory registered by the European Union, as a whole, because many of the member countries are still oriented on the traditional methods of administration, harvesting and processing. However, there are also developed countries with large forested areas (Finland, Sweden) that have embraced new technologies and adjusted management and production processes. This issue aimed, among other things, at reducing the number of people employed in the forestry sector. In Romania, increasing the number of the employees, based on the quantitative increase of jobs as result of the gross exploitation of resources, will slow down by adopting new technologies, reducing the consumption of natural resources, but also as an effect of economic shocks generated by the pandemic. For these reasons, according to our study, the low-skilled workforce will suffer, this being the most vulnerable category, as technological developments need employees with higher skills and abilities. Equally, the informal sector must be taken into account because it employs four times people more. Romania have to adopt those appropriate measures in order to help the incorporation of the labor force released from the forestry sector of resource exploitation into adjacent sustainable activities.

Resumen
In this research, the authors are investigating the way how the governmental authorities in Romania approached in the first decade of the interwar period the problem of reforming the pre-university education system. Its reorganization was very important for two basic reasons: it had to ensure the national unitary character of the state and, at the same time, it had to have a decisional influence for the development direction of the new state: conservative-traditionalist (peasant) or progressive (industrialized). The principles that stood at the base of the educational policy in Romania during the discussed period, debated and analyzed by the politicians of that time, by the decision-makers, teachers, parents, specialists etc., is an important concern in today's society, given the urgent need to achieve a profound change in today's Romanian pre-university education system. The importance of the study resides from the wish to stretch those Romanian educational traditions necessary to project and implement of a curricula reform today, which should correspond both to the expectations of students, parents and the economic and social needs of contemporary society. Investing in the education system was a matter of national priority because the school was considered a tool for building the Romanian nation in the new geopolitical context. There have been massive investments in expanding the school infrastructure in terms of primary and secondary education, but also in increasing the number of teachers. In 1922 the share of public education expenditures in the state budget expenditures was 10.1%, and in 1928 it rose to 13.4%.

Resumen
Innovation, the engine of well-developed economies, is crucial worldwide. Even in times of disruption, as the last years confirmed, the companies that continued to have innovation in the focus were better prepared for facing challenges and identifying new opportunities for future positive development. Innovation can make the difference between a well-run business and one that is driven by inertia. It is obvious that innovative activities can improve business development, but it is unclear how to build an efficient innovation system or strategy. In order to study the way innovation is approached in food organizations, in Romania, we have conducted an exploratory research, structured on 5 important topics: how organizations are defining innovations, what kind of innovations are developed, how innovation is implemented and managed, what measurement methods are used, and which is the strategy for innovation management. An additional topic was focused on companies’ concerns towards sustainability. After conducting the exploratory empirical research, a SWOT analysis was developed, to uncover the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the Romanian food industry’s approach to innovation. The aim of the paper is to point out the opportunities and beneficial elements of innovation management in Romania’s food sector, but also the weaknesses and threats in order to identify ways of surpassing them. The purpose of the research is answering the following questions: What is the importance of innovation management, sustainability, and quality management in the Romanian food companies? Is there a common definition and a common approach for innovation management in food industry? What measurement methods are used for measuring the impact of innovation? Which is the strategy for innovation management? The structure of the research, with practical implications, offers an additional novelty and originality approach for studying the innovation management in Romania’s food sector. According to National Statistical Institute Innovation data, big organizations are driving the most consistent part of the economic growth, therefore, in the present paper, the authors could reveal important aspects to be considered for an Innovation Management Model which could fit all food companies, no matter the size

Resumen
Traditional products represent an opportunity for the Romanian producer and a market niche which can be accessible at European and national level. This paper puts forth an analysis of the Romanian potential in the development of the traditional products, an evaluation of the degree of concentration and of the factors of market influence. The study used information provided by governmental organizations, national and European statistical database. The collected data was processed, graphically represented and analyzed. Herfindahl-Hirschman and Gini-Struck indexes were used to analyze the market concentration. The research results showed an uneven distribution of the traditional products on regions and counties in Romania. The national market is characterized by a high concentration level, most registered products coming from Central and North West regions. The South Est region is modestly represented at national level, but covers roughly 40% of the European traditional registered products in the eAmbrosia database. The local investors’ entrepreneurial spirit is a more important factor than the tradition in the development of the traditional foods. In Romania there is an insufficiently capitalized potential for the development of the traditional foods. The analyses performed is useful to the business environment and the

In the current difficult economic and social situation in Romania and worldwide characterized by the health crisis caused by the evolutions of the SARS CoV-2 pandemic, the present study aims to highlight the amplitude to which the risk of occupational health and safety influences the continuity and sustainability of business in Romania. The research methodology adopted by the authors was based on the research highlighted in the specialized literature and by considering firstly the analysis of the results of the survey realized by applying a questionnaire to the employees from different fields of activity during the period February 29 - March 15, 2020. Secondly, the authors considered the analysis of the determinants of the risk of occupational health and safety at the level of the employers with an impact on the continuity and sustainability of the Romanian organizations, especially the businesses. The results of this research reveal how the working hypotheses in the second level of the analysis were confirmed or not regarding the impact of occupational and healthy risks on the sustainability of Romanian organizations under the SARS-COV-2 pandemic.
