Nantes, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997NANT3025.
Texto completoThis research, conducted among a working class population in the nantes-saint-nazaire area, concerns working practices referred to as "de bricole", carried out on the fringe of regular paid employment. Following a lexicographical study making it possible to point out a category of thought and experience relating to the "travail de bricole" (almost to potter, to tinker), in turn followed by a rereading of monographic sources from the last century aiming at situating from a historical standpoint certain marginal forms of work discernable today, the author analyses the construction of a field of leasure in witch these practices were classified in the do-it-yourself category. This effort on elaboration answers a questionning formulated between the two world wars in literature dealing with working class leasure activity, in light of the evolution of working class living conditions and industrial labor. This concern encounters a sociological reflection on working class labor wich herein forms the subject of a critical examination. The end result is a definition of do-it-yourself/ odd jobs as a leasure activity, exempt from productive constraints and operating against the tide of professional life. The analysis of currently observed practices overturns this viewpoint. Indeed, it is shown that professional labor constitutes a matrix of do-it-yourself practices by those people concerned wich mobilizes, while reconstructing them, industrial logic and knowledge in the private sphere. They in turn reestablich a "productive order" and widen the scope of work

Texto completoIn my thesis, I studied the genetics of adaptation. Certainly, mutations are randomly generated, yet evolutionary relevant mutations are not randomly distributed; why? Can we define some principles that determine the most favorable genetic paths, in the light of evolution? Would these principles sometimes limit the range of possible adaptations? Are mutations that feed emergence of a new character and diversification or refinement of an existing character the same? To answer these questions, I studied fruit flies with black spots. In particular, fruit flies from the melanogaster group, whose ancestor evolved a black spot on the tip of its wing, about 20 million years ago. This spot has been inherited through generations, and diversified dramatically in some lineages.I first tried to uncover the logic of genetic tinkering underlying the emergence and diversification of the spot. Our results suggest a general model in which the two sides of adaptation, emergence and diversification, correspond to two distinct genetic tinkering.Second, I focused strictly on the emergence of this spot. This ongoing work has identified some general genetic features of the regulatory module underlying the development of this spot.Overall, my thesis contributes to a better understanding of the genetics of adaptation

Texto completoThis article explores the institutional bricolage process developed in a native community, which derives in the creation of a water user’s association. Based on a historical review, the article identifies the borrowing dynamics from previous arrangements, such as family relationships and meetings, in order to make sense of the new institutional frameworks promoted by development projects, such as cooperative work and the payment of a water tariff. The argument proposes that this is a process of institutional alteration, because it does not led to the creation of a qualitatively different organism, but rather it reproduces previously stablished logics and agreements.

This work aims at presenting ethnographically called historic center of São Luís - Maranhão, World Heritage since 1997. Anthropology focuses on this category showing the region delimited as the historical center from multiple possibilities of understanding. The city has an ancient urban layout with a core of civil architecture from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, whose characteristics, mostly from colonial origin, were maintained: irregular urban layout, churches, houses, properties of domestic and commercial use. To IPHAN the brand's historic center is the maintenance of urban layout and the preservation of "mansions". For people who live transit and appropriate other issues relate to the conflict marked by heritage. In this place, are direct relationships with property issues on which we can realize appropriations, senses of places, sociability. On the other hand, the memories lead to understanding of a plural place, thus the DIY category is used as a tool to make sense of the present experiences of place in the historic center. Also apprehends the idea of a polyphonic place through the list of names given by the speakers: Praia Grande, Revive and historic center. These categories are used to show that the place used, subverted and even recollected, too, is one of places, a polyphonic discourse.

Texto completoENGLISH ABSTRACT: This thesis investigates adults who play. Through my investigation, I discovered that play for adults is not distraction or a waste of time as is generally accepted. It is a basic need and necessary for survival. Although there are different forms of play, such as sport matches, hobbies and gambling, I specifically focus on play where objects can be created. This type of play is inherently more creative and stimulates lateral thinking. In play there is a freedom and safe environment which is not necessarily tied to reality. At the same time it is a self-reflective discovery process which stimulates brain activity. In my practice I use plastic bags as an accessible and malleable material to design and make contemporary jewellery. It is a way to act as an active agent in the world, rather than a passive consumer. The discussion of my art pieces forms the primary research of the thesis and is supported by theoretical research. In the process of making a deeper understanding and knowledge is extracted, which can be established through ritual play. New connections are formed in the brain and contrasting ideas can be linked which would otherwise not have happened. Play has value because it does not only stay in ‘play state’. It can spill over to the confrontation, questioning and uniting of the sociological, economical, cultural and political contrasts in my immediate South African environment. Consequently play contributes to our ability to adapt, process everyday contradictions (such as social inequality) and find creative solutions. Furthermore, it possesses the potential to contribute to our social wellbeing, happiness, trust, the will to share and to live empathetically.
Thesis, Le Mans, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013LEMA3016.
Texto completoThis study sets out to consider Jarry’s works entirely as a deformation of texts written by others, whether direct or indirect. In order to describe and analyze the various aspects of this “creation at secondhand” and establish a typology of its forms and practices, we have approached it from the dual angle of the intertextual and the historical. In the first case we can discern both an allusive form and a dynamic form of Jarry’s writing: rewriting as a linear product and bricolage as a patchwork product, uniting various elements. In the second case we have situated Jarry’s work in the specific time and place of their appearance. Despite Jarry’s very individual personality, his texts cannot be taken out of the context that binds them to the end of the nineteenth century. It is impossible to understand the real issues underlying his literature of allusion without taking his many references to occult science, idealism and the prevailing archaizing aesthetics into account, to say nothing of the politics of “faits divers’’, the newspaper sensations of the day

Costa, Hulda Silva Cedro da. "UMBANDA, UMA RELIGIÃO SINCRÉTICA E BRASILEIRA". Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Goiás, 2013. http://localhost:8080/tede/handle/tede/758.
Texto completoThis thesis analyzes the Umbanda religion and its consolidated training process through a continuous syncretism that began in the late 17th Century, with the first black religious communities, mostly Bantu s origin. This formation process of Umbanda presented four phases. The first one began with the Calundu, in the 17th Century, advancing to Cabula, in the early 19th Century, the Macumba, in the middle of this same century, resulting in Umbanda, which emerged in the early 20th century, and has become the fourth phase of this syncretic religious and continuous process. The research is intended to open a discussion about the formation process of the structural basis of The Umbanda Religion, which origin comes from the fusion of several elements of African origin, the Spiritualism of Kardecista, the elements of indigenous origin and even the elements of Catholicism. This way, it characterizes a highly syncretic process, and because of its approach to Christianity, a significant separation from its African headquarters occurred. Nowadays, some theorists do not want to use the term syncretism, relating it to situations of domination, as something impure, and therefore, relegated as a negative term, considered a pejorative concept, such as bringing in its essence, a conception of the mixture, thus denying the originality and identity of the African s descent people. Thus, some researchers prefer to use the terms hybridity and bricolage(DIY), stating that these terms are different from the term syncretism. As a result of this debate, we can clearly identify in which parts of the discussion these authors either match or differ in their points of view, and how different and distant they are in their theories about these terms, in order to verify the applicability of the Umbanda Religion. We approach the search process of its legitimation as a Brazilian Umbanda religion, and to be accepted by the ruling class. Accordingly, we analyze its passage by the Vargas era, its relationship with the Catholic Church and the military dictatorship, when it reached its zenith. We analyzed its precipitous decline, from the 1980s on, with the growth of neo- Pentecostal movements. Since then, the Umbanda has been in decline, but revived in the 21st. century, represented by three major religious segments namely: Initiative Umbanda, Holy Umbanda and Cross Line Umbanda.

This work was developed from the research field in the Museu C?mara Cascudo (MCC) and the theoretical research in Museum Studies, enlarging the idea of museum while ambience of culture. We believe that the MCC, located in the city of Natal RN, is a relevant sociocultural institution because it is a university museum, because it was created two years after the foundation of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, and because it develops researches and studies about man on his physical and cultural aspects. Thus, this work is made up by a reflection on the transient and mobile aspect of culture living culture to understand the role of the museum in contemporary society. The MCC analysis, including its history, its functioning, its main activities, and its expositions, illustrates one part of our investigation. The other part is composed by theoretical consideration made from the reading of authors such as Bauman, L?vi-Strauss, Morin, Kristeva, Foucault, Le Goff, among others

Texto completoIn the wake of the introduction of Buddhism in the West in the XXth century, as sudden as successful, a new hyphenated religious posture has emerged: the “Jewish Buddhists”. In the current context of religious individualism and globalization, this constellation of individual stances claiming to be both Jewish and Buddhist is one of the creative outcomes of the emergence of a Western Buddhism. Mostly known in the states under the label “jubu”, where an estimate of 6 to 30% of the Western Buddhist practitioners would be of Jewish descent, the phenomenon of Jews in Buddhism is however a global phenomenon. How does it play in France and in England, two other essential loci of the Jewish diaspora and of Western Buddhism? How to account for the success of Buddhism in Israel today? Why do Jews become Buddhists, and how do they articulate this choice with their Jewish identity? The phenomenon of the Jewish Buddhists, mostly known as a post-Shoah phenomenon, is first and foremost a product of the post-Enlightenment Jewish Ashkenazi modernity. In this research, combining a sociology of the reception of Buddhism and of individual religious trajectories based on interviews and life-narrative analysis collected via a multisite longitudinal ethnographic fieldwork conducted between 2008 and 2018 between the United States, England, France and Israel, I will attempt to offer a comparative, diachronic panorama of the phenomenon of the Jewish Buddhists, aiming at shedding light on its global tendencies, its local specificities, and its evolution, from the Counter-Culture of the sixties till today.Because it rejects the term « conversion » and expresses itself under the shape of bricolages of identity and belief, the posture of Jewish Buddhist highlights the connections between religious individualism and the group, and calls for rethinking the concept of syncretism in the context of the contemporary religious globalization

Texto completoSustainable development is perhaps the most prominent topic of our time and challenge for businesses. Today, we are facing both social issues, such as an ever-increasing population, and environmental issues, like climate change. We are thus suffering from ozone depletion, destruction of biodiversity, loss of living species, overpopulation, overtourism, and the need of individuals who are able to deal with these challenges through their entrepreneurial behaviour is more than urgent. The serious consequences of environmental degradation have been pointed out for decades, and the current situation requires us to recognize that resources, especially our natural ones, are finite. The thesis focuses on the drivers of sustainable entrepreneurial behaviours aimed at resolving environmental degradation and achieving sustainable development. Through an exploration of environmental passion, environmental bricolage and authenticity, the thesis sets a foundation for developing future thought-provoking studies.

The rising of the New Age movement, from the countercultural movements of contestation that emerged in the 1960s, represented the emergence of a “new religious conscience” in the contemporary Western world. In Alto Paraíso de Goiás, place of new age convergence, this alternative religiosity continues to relate to the counterculture, especially under its hippie version. This environment becomes the stage for religious experimentations of alternative Christian groups, who, through elective affinities perceived between the neoesoteric world, which includes the rastafari group, and Christianity, make their negotiations of meaning towards a religious living capable of conjugating the Christian message with the alternative and neoesoteric style. The negotiations of meaning happen through the Christian presence in the boundary environment of Alto Paraíso and through the personal and daily contacts between the evangelical and neoesoteric groups. The ethnographic research aims to show how these negotiations are made between the evangelical and neoesoteric groups, as well as the ritual and aesthetic experiences which combine elements from these two cultural universes. The bricolage, in this case, is oriented by a sensibility which imposes limits to the possibilities of evangelical appropriation of the neoesoteric contents and symbolic elements.

Texto completoThe dissertation studies how actors implement contemporary adjustments in listed buildings without disrupting their embodied Heritage. The listed building’s legitimacy relies on its authenticity whose respect by actors is essential to maintain the institutional protection, as it is the material representation, or instantiation, of the Listed-Buildings Institution. However, intervention works to change such an artifact lead to various debates among actors, as the majority of current listed buildings were not originally constructed to last, i.e. to be transmitted to future generations. One debate during intervention works tackles the issue of what needs to be or not to be considered in terms of Heritage. Through a constructivist grounded-theory methodology, the dissertation allows the understanding of how actors succeed in producing one unique outcome. I propose the instantiation construction process in which both symbolic but also material constructions are emphasised. And to do so, I intertwine Scandinavian Institutionalism and Collective Bricolage. Indeed, actors need first to design, with the help of the three institutional pillars, a shared interpretative frame to select relevant building materials. They could thus modify an existing building in regards to what building’s authenticity deserves to be respected. This frame acts in fact as a preliminary step to implement a simultaneous two-level dialogue enabling the materialisation of the intangible ideas: 1) between actors and the frame to test the material solutions actors suggest and 2) between each actors’ “resources at hand” repertoires by means of six selection criteria that help them to make decision on which material is relevant to use or not

Tract housing has earned its position as the overwhelmingly dominant paradigm of home building and ownership in America because it's such an efficient and therefore cost-effective system. Custom-designed housing has provable benefits over a one size-fits-all approach, but has remained unreachable for the vast majority of home buyers (or at the very least not worth it) due to the price/time/hassle disadvantage of its inefficient production systems. In attempting to make customized housing competitive with the tract home on a price/time/hassle graph, this thesis searches for efficiency through using bricolage; nonstandard, ambiguous components; the principles of object-oriented programming; and the consumer-centric standard practices of e-commerce. A paradigm and accompanying software are created to allow a custom house to be designed in hours rather than months, enabling architects to design by arranging pre-designed multi-room components, as selected from a searchable database, into a single structure that uniquely fits a client's needs. Sample houses are designed and economic estimates are made to gauge the potential competitiveness of such a system with tract housing, as well as the system's potential effect on the overall economy of architecture.

Texto completoOver the past two decades, university reforms have been known around the world. Vietnam's higher education cannot isolate itself. It is obliged to change to adapt to a globalisation and integration. Yet, in the context of a developing country, when the law on higher education was promulgated only in 2012 and recently amended in 2018, it can be said that education in general and higher education in particular in Vietnam still has many defects.Based on a comprehensive method - through targeted interviews, direct observation and analysis of reference documents - this thesis answered the question of how Vietnamese universities are transforming since 1986, and what is the leadership for this transformation. The thesis then distinguished three different degrees of transformation of Vietnamese universities in the process of integration: limited transformations, beginner transformations and profound transformations. As a result, the thesis has shown a different operating logic between public and private universities and a large distance between the fields of social sciences and humanities and natural sciences in higher education. It is therefore necessary to involve the actors concerned so that higher education in Vietnam can come closer to the advanced level of the world’s higher education

Texto completoThis PhD thesis focuses on the implementation of an ERP in a group of small subsidiaries through a multi-cycle canonical action research conducted by the researcher, ERP project manager for two years. Subsidiaries face multiple challenges : deploying a standard ERP while preserving their flexibility, reconciling the group constraints and local constraints, making do with means at hand given the limited resources. This context is an opportunity to deepen the theory of bricolage, little mobilized in the ERP literature. The results show multilevel collective bricolage processes: intra-affiliates, inter-affiliates and group. These bricolage processes allow continuous improvement of the ERP and its appropriation, and ultimately lead to the design and use of solutions that are difficult to imitate, which generates a competitive advantage. These collective bricolage processes assume favorable initial conditions and an evolution from a constraining symbolic (standard ERP, best practices) to an enabling symbolic. Along the way, bricolage contributes to developing thecreative reservoir and capacities, which in turn increases the potential of bricolage, while simultaneously promoting technological and managerial innovations

There is in Minas Gerais, Brazil, a medium that distinguishes himself from the traditional spiritism. More precisely in Belo Horizonte, the medium Robson Pinheiro has been developing a work whose cosmological visions presents itself as a combination of elements of umbanda, candomblé, pentecostalism and new age’s mysticism. From this object the following questions may be formulated: Does the medium practices a post-spiritism that diverges and breaks up from the traditional spiritism’s doctrine or is it responsible for the development of a new current within Brazilian spiritism? Robson Pinheiro is the author of more than forty psychographed works and is a publishing success of the segment. His literary production mixes spiritual realities and presents an unseen version of spiritism. The medium experiences this cosmology in his practices and rituals performed in groups and institutions that he has founded. In these places, the characters of his books possess mediums and interact with the public. A practice of spiritism that does not obey the conventions of Brazilian spiritism. In this sense, because of the repercussions of his performances, works and presence, the medium Robson Pinheiro can be considered as one of the newest expressions within the spiritism movement. This fact originates a rejection by traditional adepts of the segment that consider his works inadequate. On the other hand, some of his followers regard him as a reformer and perceive his practices as the closest to the ones described in the original codification of European spiritism. In order to answer the questions presented, this work aimes to analyze the biography, novels and rites practiced in the groups created by the author.

Texto completoThe current crisis of purchasing power, a very pressing problematic at the present time, contributed to the rise and success of low-price retail in various sectors of the economy (food, hardware retail, rail and train transportation), self-promoted as « low-cost » and described as a major commercial innovation, with its low margins, reduced assortment and services, and generally its low production costs. This business model, never before studied in sociology, is the object of the present work, which purpose is to illustrate the different forms taken by exploitation and capitalism, and their effect on the workforce, in a context of economical crisis. The analysis angles itself mainly on work, and was nourished by an ethnographic study in two stores and warehouses of a low-cost hardware retail chain business, that we will call « Bricostock ». We show that the activity of these « low-cost » hardware retail stores, which has similarities with other production models, is characterized by simultaneously managing a very high flow of goods with an accelerated stock rotation, and a fast customer flow, whose interactions with the salespeople therefore have to be reduced. The workers' multi-tasking activities allow an important reduction in workforce numbers, compared to the other businesses of the sector. We also show that this type of organization is based on the work of individuals with specific social characteristics : management and subaltern workers alike are more socially vulnerable than in other firms and have to accept work conditions. Lastly, from the perspective of doing a sociology of the work group's structuration, we study different configurations of the group's social relations. Peer groups, despite the work and employment conditions that could keep them from existing, are present, and they are structured by various principles of division and cohesion. We will show in which situations work peer groups seem relevant to the actors or might be made redundant by other situations : for exemple, if men are dominant in the organisation and in the work group (men make up 83 % of the sales workforce in the firm we studied, one of the highest rate in the sector of hardware retail), there are gender-mixed sociabilities based on the workers' seniority, on age, on a shared position or on common adversaries, such as management and customers. This study deals with the dynamics of reproduction or transformation of social relations in low-cost retail and with the diffuse forms of conflictuality in this type of organisation

Texto completoThis research asks permission to enter in houses of bricoladores, people who make their homes with their own hands, using found fragmentary material, collected, diverted from their original functions, adopting creative procedures and dealing directly with the random and unexpected. Bricolage operates without a pre-designed project, featuring a tactical process of invention which appropriates and reframe available elements of different origins. Inspired by the concept of rhizome and its multiples entries, this study articulates essays that dialogue between themselves, creating ramifications and displacements. Theoretical referential follows the texts to design crossings between images, processes, places and meanings. Trying image beyond the illustrative function, a visual essay proposes sensitive approaches to the houses. Through cartography, a mapping of the landscape and its accidents and transformations, bricolage talks reveal subjectivity productions which emerge from the movement's own power.

Texto completoThis research study examined the relationship between entrepreneurial bricolage and environmental dynamism, contributing to the knowledge base of the resource-based theory. Specifically, this study examined the influence perceived environmental dynamism has on entrepreneurial bricolage while controlling for the firm’s annual revenue, number of employees, age, industry and business experience, and educational level. Prior research has identified firms with higher levels of entrepreneurial bricolage overcome resource limitations through innovation, a primary component of competitive advantage. Prior research has also identified firms that function efficiently in rapidly changing environments demonstrate stronger dynamic capabilities and higher levels of innovation. In addition, previous research has identified entrepreneurial bricolage and environmental dynamism, separately, positively impact innovation; however, no identified research has examined these constructs together within the parameters of this research study. This research study utilized multiple linear regression to analyze the data used to test the hypotheses related to the research questions. The primary research question examined in this study was to what extent does Environmental Dynamism Index (IV) explain variations in the Entrepreneurial Bricolage Index (DV), controlling for Annual Revenue (CV), Number of Employees (CV), Firm Age (CV), Industry Experience (CV), Business Experience (CV), and Education Level (CV). The population for this study included businesses located in the United States in the business services sector (SIC 73) with fewer than 100 employees and annual revenue below $5 million. Results identified perceived environmental dynamism was a statistically significant predictor of entrepreneurial bricolage; no statistically significant relationship was identified between all control variables (annual revenue, number of employees, firm age, business experience, and education level) and entrepreneurial bricolage. Findings of this study suggested that firms operating in environments of greater perceived environmental dynamism demonstrated greater use of entrepreneurial bricolage. This research study was limited in population and did not include all constructs of the Environmental Dynamism Scale; further research is recommended examining the relationship between environmental dynamism and entrepreneurial bricolage in various industries and cultures. In addition, future research is recommended examining these constructs using all constructs included in the Environmental Dynamism Scale.
