Texto completoThis work is concerned by the links between economy and biology in order to understand why economists use biological theory of natural selection. In the first part, we have studied the nature and the function of metaphor and examined links between metaphor and economic models. We have not omitted the relations with the philosophical literature about the cognitive force and linguistic structure of metaphor. And so, we have explained why the gary Becker's model of altruism is perfectible. In the second part, we have studied the links between the theory of games and the evolutionary theory. And we have shown the evolutionary stable strategy can be used in economy and biology

Texto completoApplication of the evolutionary biology concepts to socio-economic reality issues is not any new theme, even if this inspiration in socio-economic geography and especially in regional development is more recent and is based, in general, on already realized applications, mainly in economics. The main objective of the PhD thesis is thus an identification of hitherto non-applied evolutionary concepts, or to this time neglected biological aspects of already applied concepts and an attempt of their application to the selected themes of regional development without the intermediary role of other disciplines. In the first place, the attention is paid to the search of an appropriate theoretical approach and of the summary of already applied evolutionary concepts to the social sciences. Second part presents some evolutionary biology concepts where a potential for applications (based on the mediator role of analogies and metaphors) to the selected regional development issues was identified. Individual applied concepts were divided into four more complex thematic units – adaptation, co-evolution, selection and speciation. The application of the last concept could probably be considered as the most valuable contribution of the PhD thesis. It is based on the hypothesis that some analogical traits can be identified among socio-economic concepts of path dependence and lock-in and biological concepts linked with speciation and that the biological concepts can provide the general inspiration for identification of certain types of socio-economic barriers of development of regions and for an attempt to classify them

Texto completoThe thesis continues the work of Evolutionary Game Theory. This theory is a framework for modeling the dynamics of populations interactions betwcen agents are modeled by the classic dilemmas from Game Theory. The agents interaet with their peers. Best behaviors spread. less suecessful ones tend to disappear. Evolutionary Game Theory prondes conditions upon which cooperative behaviors can survive and cooperative equilibriums can appear. Assuming that each agent does not interact with all the others but only with a fixed group of neighbors greatly increases the number of possible dynamics. The relations between agents form a social network. Limitation of contacts between agents favors cooperative equilibrium and biodiversity. Nevertheless, formal approach to the models is no longer possible and they are studied through massive computer simulations. The thesis continues the study of the impact of social networks. lt introduces networks of communities, a new model where commnnities are networked rather than agents. This model exhibits new forms of eooperative convergence and new conditions to persistent biodiversity. The thesis also shows the possibility of convergence of markets towards non-competitive equilibriums and the survival of behaviors collectively able to reach cartel equilibrium, a particular form of cooperative equilibrium

Texto completoThe manosphere is a collection of antifeminist men's groups. They are united by their enthusiasm for Darwinian evolution, especially around issues of sex differences. This research examines U.S. and English-speaking manosphere appropriations of evolutionary science from three angles. Firstly, it assesses the scientific literacy of manospherians with a survey, revealing relatively high levels of college science education and scientific literacy. Secondly, through qualitative discourse analysis, it thoroughly reviews the appropriations of evolutionary science found in the manosphere. Overall, manospherians tend to disproportionately apply biological theories to women, making for a uniform and strongly deterministic view of female behavior. Moreover, they also create their own evolutionary hypotheses to make sense of the world through a Darwinian lens. Yet, appropriations of evolutionary science vary between manosphere communities, depending on their political aims and narratives. Running through all these appropriations however is a presence of misogynistic biases, as well as exaggeration and simplification of academic research results. To understand this phenomenon better, this work finally explores scientific knowledge circulation and acquisition in the manosphere

Texto completoSystems biology has developed enormously over the 10 last years, with studies covering diverse biological levels (molecule, network, tissue, organism, ecology…). From an evolutionary point of view, systems biology provides unequalled opportunities. This thesis describes new methodologies and tools to study the evolution of biological systems, taking into account the multidimensional properties of biological parameters associated with multiple levels. Thus it addresses the clear need for novel methodologies specifically adapted to high-throughput evolutionary systems biology studies. By taking account the multi-level aspects of biological systems, this work highlight new evolutionary trends associated with both intra and inter-process constraints. In particular, this thesis includes (i) the development of an algorithm and a bioinformatics tool dedicated to comprehensive orthology inference and analysis for hundreds of species, (ii) the development of an original formalism for the integration of multi-scale variables allowing the synthetic representation of the evolutionary history of a given gene, (iii) the combination of this integrative tool with mathematical knowledge discovery approaches in order to highlight evolutionary perturbations in documented human biological systems (metabolic and signalling pathways...)
