Resumen
Abstract Monochromatic measurement of albumin by the bromcresol green method leads to overestimation of albumin in the presence of heparin. The interference seems to be caused by fibrinogen, which, in the presence of heparin, produces an almost constant increase of the measuring signal over the whole range of suitable wavelengths (550 to 700 nm). The albumin overestimation can be eliminated by using a bichromatic modification. An application of this procedure for the automated analyzer RAXT, RA-1000 (Bayer Diagnostik, Technicon) is presented. We recommend using only bichromatic methods for albumin determination with bromcresol green to avoid unexpected analytical artifacts.

Resumen
Abstract We investigated the analytical performance of fructosamine measurement in 33 routine clinical chemistry laboratories. We prepared 12 human control sera spanning a range of nondiabetic and diabetic fructosamine concentrations and assigned target values by using commercial reagents and a Cobas Bio centrifugal analyzer. Each control serum was analyzed by participating laboratories on two separate occasions. Averaged results were compared with target values, and systematic error was determined from slope and intercept regression coefficients. Overall, we found no significant (p greater than 0.05) slope or intercept bias, although slight nonlinearity was found with bichromatic instruments. Random error was determined from the standard error of estimate and from duplicate measurements. We found a median interlaboratory CV of 5.36% and similar analytical performance with all automated instruments used. The median random error with manual techniques was 18.1%. We conclude that fructosamine measurement as currently performed in routine laboratories is sufficiently accurate and reliable to function as an index of blood glucose control in diabetic patients.

Resumen
Abstract We compared the effects of specimen turbidity and glycerol concentration on nine enzymatic methods for triglyceride measurement. We assayed 51 specimens with triglyceride concentrations of 0.85-8.21 mmol/L (75-727 mg/dL) and turbidity at 420 nm equivalent to > or = 0.1 mmol/L (8.8 mg/dL) triglyceride (measured as part of our comparison method). The data were analyzed by multiple regression, which gave coefficients for the effects of glycerol concentration and the change in turbidity during the reaction. The effects of specimen turbidity and glycerol concentration were method-dependent and ranged from 6.20% to -15.67% of the measured result. The magnitude of the turbidity effect (in assays with a significant turbidity interference) was similar to that for glycerol (in assays with a significant glycerol interference). A triglyceride assay with a bichromatic measurement was less subject to interference from turbidity.

Resumen
Abstract The "Magnesium Liquid Stable Reagent Set" from Medical Analysis Systems, Inc., is evaluated. The method, which involves Magon dye binding and bichromatic absorbance measurements, was used in a Monarch centrifugal analyzer. Results were compared with those by atomic absorption spectrometry. The calibration curve for the Magon method is linear to 2.5 mmol/L, with a 2-microL sample volume. Analytical recovery of magnesium added to human plasma ranged from 95 to 102%. The working reagent is stable for at least five days at 15 degrees C. At concentrations of 0.54 and 1.20 mmol/L, the respective CVs were 2.15 and 3.60% within batch, and 3.13 and 3.24% between batch. We analyzed 150 clinical samples for magnesium by both methods. Absorbance readings at 520/600 nm rather than 520/690 nm improved the correlation (r = 0.9777 and r = 0.9428, respectively). Calcium, albumin, phosphate, or bilirubin did not significantly interfere.

Resumen
In situ melt pool monitoring is a set of technologies widely deployed on industrial, metals-based laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing (AM) systems. This study investigates the use of a calibrated tungsten ribbon lamp as a reference standard to calibrate a photodetector based, on-axis melt pool monitoring system. Calibration demonstrates two functions: (a) enable a reference for measuring and ensuring system repeatability, and (b) enable reference to physical temperature values based on the measured photodetector signals. The second function is explored in this paper. A regression-based model is derived based on bichromatic Planck thermometry theory. The calibrated tungsten lamp is then placed within a LPBF system, and resulting photodetector signals are measured at different lamp temperature set points to calibrate the model. Finally, several additional characterization tests and their results are presented verifying the temporal response of the lamp, measurement noise as a function of sampling time, and spectroscopic measurements of the LPBF optics and their potential effect on temperature calibration. A framework is also developed to normalize temperature readings across the build plate to remove location-dependent optical artifacts.

Resumen
Nonlinear interaction between the magnon mode and the mechanical mode in a magnomechanical system is treated analytically where the magnon mode is coherently driven by a bichromatic microwave drive field consisting of a strong pumping field and a weak probe field and that works within a perturbative regime. Using experimentally achievable parameters, we show that the magnonic second-order sideband is generated and can be considerably enhanced by increasing the power of the pumping field. The suppression of the magnonic second-order sideband generation at the resonance point is discussed. Furthermore, the efficiency of magnonic second-order sideband generation can be well controlled by adjusting the applied bias magnetic field strength, which is a particular feature compared to the optical second-order sideband. In addition to offering insights into the magnomechanical nonlinearity, the present results have the potential to pave the way for exploring practical applications for achieving high-precision measurement in magnonics.

The promises of additive manufacturing processes for metal parts are numerous: designing complex geometries, controlling mechanical properties, reducing the amount of raw material needed... Yet, laser-based additive technologies still struggle to establish themselves in the industrial field. The stability of the melt pool, the molten area created by the laser where material deposition occurs, is a critical element in mastering these processes. This thesis work focused on monitoring the melt pool in two different ways. First, using an RGB camera to perform surface thermal measurements of the pool via the bichromatic method. Then, through the implementation of a mobile experimental setup for X-ray inspection. The use of autoencoders, a type of neural network for image analysis, made it possible to identify the melt pool in the radioscopies

Resumen
AbstractWe consider photo-ionization of randomly oriented chiral molecules with bichromatic fields of frequencies $$\omega $$ ω and $$2\omega $$ 2 ω linearly polarized perpendicular to each other. Our symmetry analysis reveals a new type of enantio-sensitive signal in the photoelectron angular distribution which does not change its sign upon reversal of the two-color relative phase, i.e. upon reversal of the instantaneous ellipticity of the field. We provide a numerical estimate of the effect in methyloxirane, and propose an experimental setup for its measurement.

Resumen
We report our results on measurement of the total fluorescent power radiated by two-level atoms excited by a 100% amplitude modulated or bichromatic laser field. For the case of single-frequency excitation, it is well known that the total fluorescent power monotonically saturates as the intensity of the field is increased. This occurs because the inversion of the atoms approaches zero at high field strengths. In contrast, when the field is bichromatic the total fluorescent power displays resonant peaks as the strength of the driving field is increased. This occurs because there is enhanced absorption when the modulation frequency coincides with the Rabi freqeuncy or one of its subharmonics.

Resumen
Amounts of transverse chromatic aberration (TCA) and chromostereopsis were measured in normal view for nine subjects at two levels of illumination. Vernier acuities associated with the TCA measurements for a split bichromatic target were worse than those associated with measurements using monochromatic targets at both low and high illuminance. The reduction in vernier acuity can be shown to be due to chromatic aberration because the effect disappears when a Maxwellian view system is aligned with the achromatic axis of the eye. Thus for vernier alignments of bichromatic targets, chromatic aberration introduces both a bias and reduction in acuity. Chromostereopsis will introduce a bias in the depth alignment of targets of differing spectral composition. However when measurements were made of the amount of chromostereopsis for the same subjects, the associated stereoacuity was not reduced as much as expected. This result, combined with the lack of correlation between TCA and chromostereopsis for some subjects, suggests a difference in monocular and binocular processing in hyperacuity tasks.

Resumen
We present experimental measurements on a high-Q rhodamine 6G ring dye laser which was found to exhibit bichromatic emission with splittings of the order of 15–80 Å while operating in the range of 2–6 times above threshold in the bidirectional mode. Experiments were performed with the insertion of a low loss Faraday isolator (loss < 1%) in order to examine the effects of saturation gratings on the bichromatic emission. The results showed that even though the intracavity power went up, owing to the elimination of spatial hole burning, the bichromatic emission was completely eliminated in the operating range between 1 and 10 times above threshold. In addition the sidelight fluorescence of the jet was spectrally examined in order to search for sideband splittings similar to those found in Na atoms in a strong resonant field. No evidence of splittings or fluorescence shape change was found when the laser was 1–10 times above threshold. When a weak reflection from an intracavity element was allowed to make a single pass through the active part of the jet in a direction opposite to that allowed by the Faraday rotator, bichromatic emission was recovered at high pump powers (2–5 W). This is believed to be a consequence of a Bragg grating which appears when the weak beam is sent through the active medium. We describe the experiments and the results which we obtained, as well as offer a theory which consistently explains our observations and perhaps those of others.

Resumen
An experimental campaign is reported on the slow-drift motion of a rectangular barge moored in irregular beam seas. The 24 m long false bottom of the basin is raised and inclined at a slope of 5%, from 1.05 m below the free surface to 0.15 m above. The barge is moored successively at 4 different locations, in water-depths ranging from 54 to 21 cm. The measured slow-drift component of the sway motion is compared with state-of-the-art calculations based on Newman approximation. At 54 cm depth good agreement is obtained between calculations and measurements. At 21 cm depth the Newman calculation exceeds the measured value. When the flat bottom setdown contribution is added up, the calculated value is 2 to 3 times larger than the measured one. A second-order model is proposed to account for the shoaling of a bichromatic sea-state propagating in decreasing water-depth. Application of this numerical model to the scale-model tests shows that in shoaling conditions the setdown contribution to the slow-drift excitation can counteract and not necessarily add up to the Newman component.

Resumen
Abstract. Directed energy deposition (DED) is an additive manufacturing process with growing industrial interests. Nonetheless, its industrialization will not be possible until it is fully mature. Such maturity lies in the upstream research to optimize and control it. In DED, process parameters, physical quantities and parts properties are interrelated which makes it a complex process. To have a better understanding of these relations, the experimental approach of instrumentation has been chosen. Multi-sensor method has been implemented for its more extensive possibilities in comparison to single-sensor methods. A bichromatic pyrometer was coupled to an IR camera to measure the temperature distributions in real time. Post-process characterizations of the aspects and geometries of the parts were related to the sensors’ measurements and consequently, to the process parameters. Twelves sets of parameters were tested to conclude that the energy input impacts the size of the melting pool and the temperature distribution. High energies lead to defects such as edge defects and layer thickening but can mitigate surface roughness. Both the pyrometer and camera proved to have a relevance in this study for the enhancement of the DED process.
