Texto completoAs the largest French public utilities operator in the first half of the twentieth century in China, the Compagnie française de tramways et d'éclairage électriques de Shanghai (abbreviated to CFTE) is a representative case of successfully applying the concession model abroad. The Franco-Belgian capital agreement enabled the company to monopolize the parallel services of electricity, water, and public transport (tramway, trolleybus and bus) in the Shanghai French Concession. However, the financial and technical operations of CFTE have been no less challenged by a series of local and global events. This thesis aims to study the firm's performances throughout its operation. Firstly, CFTE's success is attributable to the support and protection of the French Concession's public authorities. Secondly, the pricing and adaptation strategies employed by the company are key to its good performances. Thirdly, CFTE has taken a policy that is both cooperative and competitive with its Chinese and Anglo-Saxon counterparts based outside its zone of influence. Compared with its "bold" Anglo-Saxon competitor, CFTE has not escaped a trend toward mericanization which is particularly reflected in the evolution of its structural organization

Texto completoListening comprehension is a key objective in the process of learning a foreign language. The Chinese students often find understanding oral French difficult.Based on this fact, this paper attempts to use the database CLAPI (Corpus de langues parlées en interaction) to propose some paths for teaching listening comprehension in the context of Chinese universities. This research begins with the presentation of educational and cultural context for interpreting the culture of teaching in China; then the paperconsists of a review of foreign language listening comprehension andthe contributions of the corpus; and then, we carry out this study in the context of Chinese universities, with students and teachers of French, in order to find advantages and limitations in the teaching and learning of listening comprehension. Based on the theories, the Chinese context of French teaching andthe results obtained in our study, we bring our reflections and proposals on the teaching of oral corpus for listening comprehension in Chinese context

Texto completoSilk industry played a central role in global commercial exchanges during the 19th century. Lyon, the historical capital of European silk industry, constitutes also one of the most important commercial centers of the continent, as early as in the roman period, again from the 16th century. In the 19th century, Lyon was renowned as one of the most important global silk business centers, mostly due to its close link to China, which was the biggest silk exporting country for the silk industry of Lyon. China, where the silk manufacturing techniques were invented during the Shang Dynasty, was an indispensable destination for silk manufacturers of Lyon. In fact, the opening of China to foreign trade, especially after the Second Opium War, which permits these silk manufacturers to establish and operate in the silk trade in China. To the mid-19th century, those silk trades were stepping up, with the establishment of the French concession in Shanghai as well as the opening of the direct maritime route between Marseille and Shanghai, Lyon’s silk entrepreneurs attempted, some of them by direct competition, others opting to work in partnership with well-established British trade houses in China, first to short-circuit the British monopoly and then to secure the silk supply by themselves. The efforts made by the silk entrepreneurs of Lyon made them predominant players in the global silk trad and contributed to the silk trade development between China and Europe during the 19th Century

Texto completoFrench literature has a pecular charm which makes the chinese people keep it in great esteem; besides, it is one of the foreign literatures most welcomed in my country. "reception of french literature in china" intends to study that chinese welcome between 1899 and 1949. I. E. From the first publication of french literature in china to the eve of the creation of the people's republic of china. That survey, based on translation files and catalogues gathered in the most important chinese and french libraries comprises: subject matters and their authors translated; translation method: translates and editors along with the historical conditions of that introduction. The final part is dedicated to the study of the french influence on the chinese novelists, tale-writers and poets, particularly the influence of maupassant, zola and the french symbolists. Not only the french literature strikes with wonder the chinese readers, but it also cultivates the taste and inspiration of the great chinese literati. Comprehension and borrowing between the two great literatures are quite likely to happen. Their love-match leads to the fact that modern times open the page of world literature

Texto completoStudying the living conditions in the French settlement of Shanghai over a period of hundred years gives the possibility of observing a crucial moment of the confrontation between two equally rich cultures, Western and Chinese, cultures which evolved along side each other without any interpenetration. Differences in outlook become apparent, along with all their potential to produce instability; contrast between clean and dirty producing a seemingly moral appreciation and laying the foundation for a form of racism; incapacity to put into practice humanistic principles as expressed in the Declaration of Human rights, basis of any true democracy, resulting in escaping one's responsibilities by creating feelings of inferiority and drawing attention to the other's shortcomings; in this logic of fault-finding, benefits of education are perverted into propaganda, drawing those who seek the truth into an impasse. It is in this way that the Western vision of the world which sets up as rivals the north and south facing slopes of one unique mountain, the yin and the yang, considered logically by the Chinese as complementary, finds its most virulent form of expression

Texto completoIf the classical image of the french imperialism defined by lenin requires a reexamination and if it reflects the characteristics of the french policy towards china and the big enterprise of the banque industrielle de chine realized by the berthelot brothers are in this respect typical detectors. The tentatives of the chinese modernization started since 1895, gave the great powers a golden opportunity for their economic, financial and politic penetration. In front of the rivals, france which, since the 1850's had pursued in asia the expansion policy, wasn't possessed of many favorable factors : want of competitive price, timidity and narrow-mindedness of the french capitalists, etc. , with the exception of her accumulation of capital (financial arm). Philippe berthelot, vice-director of asia, hit on the plan of foundation ofan ideal bank (french chinese bank) and asked the banque de l'indochine, quasi-national bank, to realize his plan. But this bank, which had been under the control of five big banks at paris, objected to it strongly. It was andre berthelot, ex-deputy, that carried out in 1913 the plan of his brother in spite of their objection : hence the rivalry and the antagonism between the two banks. Thanks to the supports of the chinese and french governments, the new bank developed very rapidly and constituted a trump card of the french expansion in china

Texto completoThis thesis lies within the scope of the "Convention Industrielle de Formation par la Recherche" (CIFRE), in collaboration with a company from the Rhone-Alps region (Montabert). The research has been centred around a research-intervention strategy, carried out by means of a case study, which is a concrete ground, on the analysis of the international development strategies of the manufacturers of construction equipment, and more precisely, that of the hydraulic accessories sector in China. From a scientific point of view, the work concerned itself with two key areas: the first key area is related to the analysis of general and abstract research tasks, in the field of strategic management, of the strategy in an international framework, and on specificities of the Chinese environment. The second key area is related to the empirical analysis of the process followed by Montabert in establishing operations in China: the integration of principles related to the market environment; the formulation of codes of conduct in strategic decisions; the path followed for strategic change of the company. From a practical point of view, the intention was to begin in the role of a researcher taking part within the day-to-day operations of Montabert. At the request of the leaders, the objectives aimed to: provide a clear idea of the situation of the company in the Chinese market; solve the distribution network issue; bring solutions allowing the company to optimize its presence in China. From a methodological point of view, the approach has been based on research-intervention, in the framework of CIFRE within an industrial context: several investigations were carried out in the field, with the involvement of the various actors of the company; results obtained by a qualitative research based on thorough discussions and interviews; useful conclusions and recommendations were made which contributed to the improvement of the development of a French company in China

Texto completoThe French concession of Hankow, the fourth and last French settlement established in China, was part of the five foreign settlements created in this city along the Yangtze River. Narrating the history of this neighbourhood from the first attempts at its creation to the retrocession through to the present shows the evolution of its place in urban space and of its representations. Its place being left poorly defined in the city confers to the concession a complex and ambiguous status. After the revocation, the district was neglected and discourses stigmatized the concession phenomenon. After disappearing from the preoccupations of urban development, this space reappears in the reflections of urbanists. Meanwhile, the political instrumentation of the concession's history changed radically. Discourses moved from denouncing imperialist invasion to bringing forward the precocious openness of the city. The perception of the concessions has changed. The phenomenon of rejection surrounding the concession has been replaced by its integration in the city's history. The analysis of historiographical production and heritage protection policy clearly demonstrates the passage of the concession from political instrumentation to economical exploitation

Texto completoChina and France have two different approaches concerning the law of unfair competition; where China has established a special legislation, France depends only on the civil liability law. This thesis is a comprehensive study of the legal system in China. The examination of the law of unfair competition in terms of French and other European rights will be considered in two aspects: theory and regime. It would be advantageous to study the Chinese text of 1993, which is recent but continues to pose a number of problems when put into practice. Thus, there is a need to revise the law and the process leading to a revision is currently underway. Through this study, the major differences between the Chinese and French laws will be demonstrated, but some common ground will also be pointed out. It will also consider the possibility for the Chinese law − under the opportunity of revision and facing the new anti-monopoly Law of 2007 to develop the system of unfair competition in China, permitting an effective enforcement against unfair competition in its national and international dimensions

Texto completoThe Chinese culture and methods are still unknown for the non-Asian world. Besides, the Chinese banking system is a merge of culture and ancient traditions and modern methods and concepts imported from abroad. This particular mix is difficult to characterize. The objective of this thesis is to ascertain if the current Chinese banking system, heart of the country's financial system, can be considered as the core of a model of capitalism as defined by the Regulation Theory - today or tomorrow- through an analysis of its history, structure and evolution up to the implementation of Basel III and Wenzhou’s reforms. Many experts agree that the banking system requires deep reforms, including the withdrawal of state control and a greater openness. However, this type of reform would transform deeply the institutional relationships. If the government allows a much more powerful market institution then the core of the current banking system would be changed beyond recognition. Recent Chinese reforms show a real political will to liberalize the Chinese financial sector, but they also highlight the obstacles faced by actors of the system. Besides, the implementation methods don’t suggest characteristics of a model or culture but a strong willingness of the state to remain the dominant institution

Texto completoThe majority of the chinese jurists hold the opinion of enforcing the constitutional review, in order to build a limited governement and to reduce the tension between the citizens and the governors. This thesis investigated why this system of constitutional review should be better evolved and how to improve its efficiency ? In order to answer these questions, this study of the constitutional review in China is trying to elucidate the relationship among the value, norms and reality of the Constitution. This study discussed the rule of law and the democratic transition which are the main constitutional values and exigences but have yet been penetrated into the norms because of some political objections. Therefore, we studied the development of the constitutional review in two scenarios. Firstly, we discussed designing a special organ and improving the procedural justice within the actual system; Secondly, we argued the possibilities of the establishment of a constitutional court in China with the affirmation of constitutionnal jurisprudence, as well as commented on the major ideas and suggestions related to it. The last scenario seems to be ambitious, but we might be able to find some roots in chinese judicial order

Texto completoBetween 1958 and 1969, during the Presidency of General de Gaulle, the French Government had to reevaluate the policy towards the People's Republic of China. After the difficult times of the war in Algeria, the new policy was initiated by President Edgar Faure. France and China decided on January 27th, 1964, to exchange diplomatic missions. The new policy of Paris was very ambitious, France wanted to be present in cultural, economic and political affairs. The dramatic events of the Cultural Revolution (1966-1969) killed the hope of a new era in the French-Chinese relations
Meng, Hua. "Voltaire et la Chine". Paris 4, 1988. http://www.theses.fr/1988PA040068.
Texto completoThe history and civilization of ancient China can be traced back to remote antiquity. In the eighteen century, there arose general admiration of the Chinese civilization in Europe, which considerably influenced a certain number of writers in the age of enlightenment among whom there was Voltaire. The evolution of Voltaire’s attitude toward China can be divided into three principal period: - before 1740, Voltaire, indifferent to spiritual China, simply followed the then fashionable enthusiasm for China for its exotic treasure; - not until his first retirement to Cirey, influenced by Mme Chatelet's opposition to "The History of the world" by Bossuet, did he begin a serious study of the Chinese history and form quite an objective image of China in his works. All his views on China were formulated in this period; - however, it was at Ferney that he used China as a weapon in his fight against the intolerance and fanatism of Christianity. In order to sharpen this weapon, he even made an effort to purify his relatively impartial image of China. Thus in his words after 1755, one can find an ideal China. Voltaire surpassed the other philosophers of his time because of his erudition as a historian and his thorough assimilation of the essentials of Confucianism: the humanism. These two points constantly enriched his enthusiasm for China so that he more or less mentioned China in a large quantity of his works that he left to us. .

Texto completoSince 1978, china has begun a radical reform in all the domaines, including the sector of scientific and technical information : so far, china opens up thoroughly of forign countries. These mutations have led to the development of scientific and technical information of french in this country. The current task is to give a general idea about some analysis, interesting comments and significant reflections of general scientific and technical information, particularly the one of french in china. Compared to the strong predomination of scientific and technical information of english in china and in the world, the one of french also has its own place by forming its documentary basis, its way of circulation, its disseminators and its users. The current situation of scientific and technical information of french is relatively positive, however, its prospects are uncertain while facing the new technologies and intercultural communication of information. Il will expand completely only when the certain measures are taken, such as keeping and increasing the exchanges between china and french-speaking countres, promoting the education of french in china with various methods, making electronic products, setting up more french-speaking sites of scientific and technical information, giving the importance of studies in the problems of intercultural communication. .

Texto completo“I am well aware how very far the Chinese as a nation and as individuals are at present from the realisation of the high ideal of their civilisation. But at the same time I think it right to say here that even now, looking upon the present demoralised state of things in China, the Chinese civilisation, if one would take the trouble to interpret and look into the inside of facts, cannot be considered a failure. If you judge a civilisation by the extent to which men of means living under that civilisation can enjoy themselves, the Chinese civilisation in certainly a failure. But if you judge a civilisation by the standard of strength and effectiveness of the sense of moral obligation in the nation living under that civilisation, then I think I can show that the Chinese civilisation even now is not a failure, but, on the contrary, a wonderful success.”

Texto completoThe history of the spread of French in China finds itself at the intersection of multiple productive areas of research. To cite only the most important of them, consider the history of the opening-up of China, the overseas cultural action of France and the history of cultural relations. For some time now, these areas of research have been witnessing a true growth of strength within the field of international studies. As such, the francophony in China represents an area of inquiry which could contribute to enriching other branches of International Studies, which has traditionally been focused on the political and economic dimensions and on the nations in a position of power. The spread of French in China is the fruit of interaction between Chinese and French initiatives. Granted, the first French programs were created by French missionaries in the middle of the 19th century. Nevertheless, initiatives on the part of Chinese multiplied and soon made their importance felt. The French language had actually been bound up with the dream of Chinese of achieving national revival across the fields of military, economy, politics and culture. Indeed, highly noteworthy is the fact that thanks to the efforts of Chinese, higher education programs taught in French were made available as early as the beginning of the 20th century – the institution in question was Tongwen guan [Governmental School of Foreign Languages], which in its turn was merged into Jingshi Daxuetang [Imperial Capital University, predecessor of Peking University] in Beijing in 1902. Benefitting from a generally favorable environment in China, French cultural action kept renewing itself. Spanning 100 years without interruption over the period 1849-1949, it offered both religious and non-religious programs, restricted, however, almost entirely to primary and secondary education. After 1949 however, largely because of cold war and the Cultural Revolution gripping China in 1966-1975, such French initiatives were absent for several decades and did not make their come-back until the opening-up policy of China at the end of the 1970s. Henceforth, on the basis of reciprocity and leveraging the attractive force of France to Chinese college students, the French authorities have been deepening ties with China. At the same time, they rely heavily on l’Alliance Française, which has been expanding rapidly in China thanks to both its ability of adapting to local circumstances and the diversification of the overseas study destinations of Chinese college students
Luo, Tian. "La Chine théâtrale en France au XVIIIe siècle". Paris 4, 2004. http://www.theses.fr/2004PA040011.
Texto completoFrom the end of the seventeenth century to the French Revolution, the “chinoiserie” and the passion for drama were developing in coexistence. Did these two social phenomena, lasting for almost one century, unite each other? Did they really influence the social life of France? We are naturally curious about such questions. It can be a quite good way to follow the relevant trails in the history of French theatre in order to trace out how China was apprehended by the French society. The interest about the others often reflects the inner preoccupation of the observer himself. When the French playwrights criticize or compliment China, they think rather of their own country. Therefore, the interpretation of China in the French theatre is the product not only of the information conveyed by the missionaries, the sailors and the merchants but also of the intense meditation about the French society, about its system and its rules. .

Texto completoIn order to maintain its economic growth, essential to its social stability and to the Party survival, China has to meet its exponential energy needs, which make it dependent on coal (3/4 of its energy mix) and oil imports. The stakes in terms of energy security, environment and climate, add to the urgency to develop a more sustainable, innovative and higher value-added growth model. Therefore China is investing heavily in new and renewable energy technologies- contributing to a 'green recovery' of the post-crisis economy, and do so, according to its traditional policy of techno-nationalism and the new credo of "indigenous innovation". If the legacy of the past still weighs, pockets of competitiveness emerge at the territorial level, where local governments, largely autonomous if not arbitrary, are able to stimulate and enrich the national efforts. Considering the apparent opportunities, national and local, offered by China energy development, French companies and technology players have a role to perform in providing technology and knowledge, all the more that ‘’energy’’ has become a priority theme for the Sino-French relationship with agreements on climate change, sustainable urban development and nuclear energy in 2007. Nevertheless, the issues of technology transfer and competitiveness arise therefore. China has indeed, since its opening, sought to acquire foreign competencies by any means, shaping a system that integrates its industrial policy as well as the role of scientific cooperation or the one of overseas Chinese; nowadays moreover the government tightens its market access conditions. Given the potential risks of technology and knowledge leakage, French energy companies, to remain competitive, might implement a business intelligence policy, optimally at the Chinese territory level. . .

Texto completoThe sector of Chinese public markets has for a long time been considered a sanctuary, protected from any foreign incursion. Today, in order to respond to the demands of globalization, under the influence of international institutions such as the World Trade Organization, the World Bank or the International Monetary Fund, this sector is progressively transforming itself. Following China's membership of the WTO, two laws foreshadowing a future code of the Chinese public markets have been announced to address this. With respect to the stakes at play with such an openness, as much on the economic scale as political, the importance of a legal analysis of this mutation is naturally essential

Texto completoThrough the prism of articles edited in the French print media, we think about the question of the public opinion in China between the summer 2007 and the end of 2010. The objective is double: on one hand understand the public opinion in China and on the other hand comprehend the public opinion in France on China. The public opinion in China pierces in social aspects. To think better about the question, it is important to consider the conditions of the elaboration of the public opinion: the evolution of the Chinese context and its international image; the economic sphere of influence which makes the population oscillate between tradition and modernity … Divided between capitalism and communism, China is suffering from important disparities. The analysis examines the social and political life, and the opinion the Chinese have of themselves and of the world which surrounds them. Finally, the western glance on China leads to the question of the democracy. Is the recurring number of riots the indication of a will of democratization? China feeds western illusions which see in the democracy the universal solution. The Chinese government itself regularly uses the term of democracy, but "Chinese-style". From then a synthetic vision of the probability of evolution of the Chinese politics is discussed. Is it possible to conjugate socialism and democracy either does China move towards an acculturation of the current Regime? Besides, the study being based on articles of the French print media, it seems useful to ask the question of the partiality of this media. Qualitatively, quantitatively what are the themes of the Chinese opinion in the French print media? Are articles many? Who writes, with which frequency? It will appear that the Press can be rather partial and structures the French public opinion. Yet, a better communication, bigger and more opened on China seems absolutely essential

Texto completoFrom the July monarchy to the turning point of the 20th century, the representations of China experience a radical change in the French literature. They oscillate between a decadent empire and a wonderful universe. On the one hand, the Middle Kingdom is suddenly closer to French opinion by the Warrior news. China has gradually lost his political power. On the other hand, in the cultural and artistic field, the representations are like a spiral wall: from the omnipresence of its precious and luxurious objects, to the notices of the well-known places of China, to the zest for classical Chinese literature both in literary writers and in academic Sinologists. What are the reasons for such contradiction in the representations of the same country? How has the French men of letters based their views?

Texto completoIn the current context of extreme competition for the best young Graduates available on the market, Graduate Programmes (GP) are becoming the model of reference in the management of this population at an international level. However, these recruitment, integration, training and development programmes seem overlooked by management research. We mobilize here the strategy-as-practice (SAP) approach to explore in detail the dynamics of implementation of such a programme in a French corporate and investment bank.More concretely, we study the context of emergence of this programme and the day-to-day praxis and activities of HR practitioners in the design and implementation of this programme. We also explore the practices that constitute a GP from the SAP perspective and the benefits, limits and suitable conditions for such a programme. Doing that, we propose a sound portrayal of a key concept in Graduate management nowadays. We therefore claim the importance to be given to SAP in the study of corporate HR activities in the coming years

We have chosen the works of Pierre Loti, Victor Segalen, Pierre-Jean Remy and Suzanne Bernard, in order to explain the subject with the help of concrete examples, that is to say by analyzing the image of the city of Beijing in different French works of the twentieth century. During this study, we take a deep look at the image of Beijing, and especially at its historical evolution, as described by the authors of the different periods that we have presented. We chose to study this evolution of Beijing's image from three dimensions. The first dimension is that of the city history, as well as that of its presence in the literary text and its influence on representation. This is a rather geocritical approach that examines the relationships between human spaces and literature. The second dimension is the Beijing signs’ dimension. We will study the texts according to an imagological perspective, focusing on how the writer transcribes reality, as well as on the representation of the object of study. Finally, the third dimension is about the evolution of novelistic forms and writing

Texto completoChinese Philosophy is little known in France and is not officially recognized by twenty-first century French philosophers. They do not consider Chinese philosophy as a philosophy but regard its contributions as wisdoms, thoughts or spiritualities. My study attempts to understand this fact by identifying the emergence of such representation across several centuries and starts with its reception in France through Jesuit missionaries in the sixteenth century. This thesis argues that French philosophers’ representation of Chinese philosophy is an Orientalist legacy that French philosophers and scholars have built from a distorted, biased and reductionist view of China and its philosophy as formulated by the Jesuits. This problem of the existence of Chinese philosophy can only be understood if it is approached in relation to the eurocentric and Orientalist ideology that characterizes philosophy and addressed through the intellectual coloniality that dominates traditional epistemology by deconstructing it

Texto completoKung Shang University of Tianjin, founded in 1923 and directed by the Jesuits, was meant for Chinese youth: provide them with a vocational training of high level like in the educational establishments in Europe and through them gain some favour for the Catholic Mission in China; French authorities, hoping an expansion of the French influence, support this enterprise from the beginning and support it again whenever needed. The Institute was officially recognized by the Chinese Government as “Gongshang College” in 1933, and “Jingu University” in 1948. It was later nationalized by the Communist Regime in 1951. This thesis questions the foundation of this school, its evolution and developments in the context of the socio-political changes of Modern China. It analyses its interactions between the Catholic world and the political authorities, Chinese and Foreign. Within a short period of existence, how did the school write its pages of history? Which pages did it write? Has it reached out the purpose of its foundation? Lastly, its closure. A Hero’s story?

Texto completoThis thesis aims to further clarify the territorial deployment of foreign settlements in China in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Although the period examined extends from 1846 to the retrocession of the last concessions in 1946, special emphasis is placed on the 1910s, a decade which spelled the end of expansionist logic. The first part analyzes the project of expansion led by the French Municipality of Tianjin from 1902 to 1946 in the Laoxikai District 老西開. This symbolic example serves both as pillar and springboard for writing a connected history of the expansion of foreign settlements. The case study on Tianjin provides a clearer analysis that encompasses Shanghai and Hankou in the second part. Establishing a perspective on the three cities reveals the principles and conditions under which foreign imperialism evolved in China, where mutually competing forces played leading roles. Further, it captures and illustrates the mechanisms of exchange and compromise engaged with Chinese officials and urban citizens. It also discloses the difficult position and weakness of the Chinese State before and after the 1911 Revolution, and the complexity of the relationship between national and local authorities. Finally, it offers a unique vantage point from which to observe sections of Chinese society within the treaty ports whose forms of expression and protest experienced a significant turning point in the 1910s. Relationships between these intertwined evolutions challenge both the dominant historiographical narrative on Western triumphant imperialism and orthodox representations associated with Chinese "modern" nationalism

Texto completoThe translation and reception of French monographs of comparative literature in China has been going on for a hundred years, it is an important part of the study on the translation of Western literary theories. This thesis mainly sorts out and describes the history, status quo and characteristics of the translation and reception of French monographs of comparative literature in China, trying to find out how the philosophy, core concepts and research methods of French comparative literature fit into the Chinese context, how they participate in the discipline construction of Comparative Literature in China, how they contact and merge with pluralistic Chinese literary creations, and how they are enriched and perfected in a brand new literary field. The thesis consists of two parts, including six chapters, the introduction and the conclusion. The introduction part emphasizes that the current research lacks a comprehensive review and theoretical reflections on the translation process of French comparative literature monographs. In view of this, this thesis attempts to describe the basic trajectory, development and characteristics of the translation of French comparative literature monographs in China, highlight the initiative and creativity of Chinese scholars in the process of translation and reception, show the dual value of theoretical travel to the recipients and the theory itself. The first part of the thesis consists of Chapter One, Chapter Two and Chapter Three, which correspond respectively to the first, second and third phase of the history of translation. Based on Edward Said’s “theoretical travel” and Anthony Pym’s method to construct the history of translation, the first part shows the context faced by the translation of French comparative literature monographs in different periods. The second part is composed of Chapter Four, Chapter Five and Chapter Six. Chapter Four focuses on the overall understanding and acceptance of French comparative literature in China, discusses the connotation of the term “French School”, the image and role of French comparative literature scholars, shows Chinese scholars’ identification for the main values of French comparative literature and the interpretation of the core concepts. To conclude, this thesis helps to reveal the important role of translation activities in the development, construction and reinterpretation of national literature, and shows the multiple appearances and possibilities of the same theory in the different cultural spaces and historical contexts. Among them, the translation and publication of related research by Chinesecomparative literature scholars in the French context constitutes the true dialogue and mutual learning. This thesis provides a reference for the mutual translation and learning of Chinese and French literature in the future

Finally, I try to assess the resonance that this representation has been reached among the first readers of the masterpiece

Texto completoChina discovered modern art in the early twentieth century. This discovery was made possible by the country's existing pedagogical structure, which had been established by painters of the reform movement or Shanghai school. In very little time, these artists came to dominate the artistic scene in china. In the Shanghai of the early 1930s, the world of modern Chinese art comprised various circles made up of the disciples of three art schools: the fine arts department of the University of Nanjing, headed by Xu Bei-Hong; the Shanghai fine arts school, directed by Liu Hai-Su; and the Hangzhou fine arts school, directed by Lin Feng-Mian. Xu, inspired by western realism, rationalized traditional Chinese painting and created an easily accessible style. Liu was the first to introduce the nude to Chinese students of western art, a genuine "artistic revolution". Lin redefined Chinese artistic concepts. He wrote many essays in the aim of propagating his theories, and devoted his life to working to fulfill his own personal dream: that of blending Chinese and western painting styles. Anyone interested in understanding twentieth century Chinese art would do well to begin by studying xu, liu and lin - the three painters who best represent the Shanghai school

Iii, and t. Iv), provide useful information on the chinese empire in the 18th century. These letters, which come from beijing as well as provincial capitals or other minor cities, reveal the attitude of missionaries as regards imperiam power. Not only are they indispensable for the awareness of christianism in these regions through the establishment of the catholic church, its development, the persecutions it underwent, but they also provide a unique contribution concerning various features of chinese history : 1) the emperer and his court, the central administration and the army, the local and provincial administration; 2) chinese religions traditions other religions existing in china (islam, judaism); 3) justice, courts and punishment; 4) education and schooling; 5) handcrafts, country life and economic crises; 6) aspects of social life, the organisation and role of the family. Texto completoThis doctoral thesis focuses on a question that has been little studied by the historiography of modern China but that is nevertheless fundamental to the understanding of imperialism in the modern history of this nation. By positioning itself at the intersection of three historiographical camps that are connected and yet distinct—urban history, the history of empires, and the history of the forces of law and order—this thesis will seek to emphasise the idea that the circulation of the skills and knowledge-base of a modern state were an example of “statecraft” within the city of Shanghai, which occupied an intermediary position between the European empires and the Chinese state. The primary focus of the thesis is the issue of defence and the maintenance of public order in the French Concession of Shanghai as being indicative of the relations that existed between the French and local authorities, the possible tensions between the empires, the administrative hierarchy of the French Empire on the ground, and the distribution of the power of military command between the civil and military authorities. The objective is to shed light on the shaping of the municipal administration of Shanghai before the establishment of the Kuomintang municipal authority in 1927 on three levels: what form did relations between the three municipalities within the city take? How did the French authorities build a security administration on the ground? Lastly, how did this security administration respond to the challenges of war and military conflict?
Pu, Zihong. "Compétence culturelle et politesse en situation de communication sino-française : implicites et malentendus". Paris 3, 2002. http://www.theses.fr/2002PA030003.
Texto completoAs the relations between China and France and between both cultures keep developing, the problem of intercultural communication between both countries, is becoming a major issue. This study focuses on the way French learning Chinese students practice politeness in situations of communication with French expatriates living in the province of Guangdong in China. We analyse the behaviour of the Chinese students and their strategies of politeness through the story of their successes and failures. In the communication between French leraning students and French expatriates, the students often find themselves in a low or inferior social position. Even if they use politeness as a strategy to reduce the imbalance in communication, they often fail to succeed because of the implicit elements in these two distant cultures. This implicit knowledge makes it difficult to understand correctly the expression of polite behaviour and to avoid misunderstandings. For the acquisition of an intercultural competence in the Chinese University System, we suggest teaching/learning of politeness as one the required subjects. .

Therefore, questions relating to the cross-cultural aspect has gradually taken up the minds of especially those in charge of teaching French as a foreign language. Consideration of such cross-culturality can be pointed out in the modest contribution of various cultural aspects such as "Politeness", "Curtesy or its cultural routines" and "Different misunderstandings that are brought about in exolingual interactions". In order to carry out such a presentation, theoretical tools of pratice, conversational analysis and sociolinguistics have been looked at in perspective

Texto completoThe French cement industry has considerable international influence. Lafarge is now the world's largest cement company. Its French competitors are equally performing. These include Vicat, a family business, or Ciment Français, a subsidiary of the Italcementi group. Ciments Français is a company inheriting from the group Poliet and Chausson. In 1971, following the purchase of the cement sector of Poliet and Chausson by Ciments Français, the cement departments of the two groups merged. Then Poliet and Chausson was transformed into a holding company for the distribution of building materials under the name Poliet S.A. It was bought by Saint Gobain in 1996 and its name disappeared. The firm was, however, the first French cement company in 1930. This thesis attempts to transcribe the monography of Poliet and Chausson. The history of Poliet and Chausson during the twentieth century is tortuous. Through a windfall effect, this Parisian company of building materials, profits from the invention of the cement market to become one of the largest producers of French cement in the 1930s. Its trajectory is parallel to that of the Lafarge company. However, it differs in many aspects. It is fraught with obstacles, and oscillates between moments of considerable success and more troubled periods. Between industrialization and desindustrialization, the story of Poliet and Chausson is written in the shadow of its brighter competitor, Lafarge. How can we explain the success of the one and the disappearance of the other?

Based on microeconomics of banking literature we show that local banking institutions have a critical impact on economic development as far as quantitative information is not avail able in the given environment. In this respect, regard to the French economic system of that time, the ability to manage private information gives comparative advantage to small (local) banks to finance small and medium enterprises investment and innovative projects. Likewise, the Banque de France's regional policy improves le access to credit and allows short term capital market integration. Proximity with local banks is then the turning point of the Banque de France's local policy success

Texto completoThis dissertation aims to explain a policy : how the Chinese and French States employ institutions to develop their foreign cultural policy in the context of globalization. Based on a comparison between China and France, this study has examined the institutionalization of their foreign cultural policy with an analytical framework which integrates three approaches (historical neo-institutionalism, public sociology, and analysis of policy transfer). Firstly, it illustrates how the institutions and specific mode of interference have emerged in China and in France during several centuries by using a socio-historical and neo-institutionalism perspective. It then locates the dynamics of cultural institutions of two countries in the context of contemporary transformations of the State and of the public policy. Therefore, it focuses on the relationship of State to culture and to these institutions, by employing the analytical categories of reengineering State sociology. When it has showed how the cultural institutions take their roots in an historical tradition as well as in a path dependence, this study illustrates that the internal change of the State cultural interventions also impact upon the modalities of international exportation of cultural policy. The theory of policy transfer can help to understand the international diffusion of cultural policy through the role of Confucius Institute and French Alliance, when those cultural institutions are considered as the driver of institutional transfer. Thus, this dissertation demonstrates that the development of a foreign cultural policy should be understand as a dynamic process of co-construction between the State and its institutions, through the interactions of a large range of actors who are subjected to a form of centralized government in the two countries. However, despite their similarities, the mechanisms for regulating cultural policy are different not only in terms of historical trajectories, but also in irreducible visions of cultural policy, as well as according to the different internationalization strategies in a context of globalization

Texto completoThe eighteenth century opens a new era in the history of Franco-Chinese cultural exchanges. China appears not only as a mysterious country, which inspired the authors of fiction, but also, in the eyes of the philosophers, as a nation deserves to be studied. This study focuses on a field so far little discovered in the works on cultural exchanges between France and China, namely the press. Our investigation intends to consider the representations of the Chinese art of governing in French-language periodicals in the second half of the 18th century and the role played by them in the dissemination of representations of China in French society
Le, Cocq Yani. "La diffusion de la pensée de Pierre de Coubertin en Chine". Pau, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011PAUU1001.
Texto completoThe abundance of the thought of Pierre de Coubertin went unnoticed for long, he is just present in fact in the official speeches of the Olympic Games, whereas he has put forward an educational reform the actuality of which remains. If China has provided a considerable effort for the organization of the Games in 2008, unfortunately Coubertin himself stays entirely misunderstood, not any monograph about him has been carried out. The Olympic spirit is the philosophical base on which Coubertin tries to rest his works, it is also the concentrate of his principal ideas. In spite of its cultural dissimilarities from the occidental world, China is predisposed to the diffusion of the thought of Coubertin. The quintessence of the Olympic spirit, that is the spirit of chivalry, the cult of beauty, comes within the movement of Chinese tradition. They have been praised, nourished since more than two thousand years by all of the philosophical schools and Chinese religions. Making bloom in China the sportsmanship of Coubertin, it is in fact to honor the Chinese chivalrous spirit. The peaceful and imbued with a country culture Chinese people, often appears as spineless and confined despite its radiant chivalrous history. In 1889, Coubertin launched his slogan : “an educational rebronzing” (“un rebronzage pédagogique”), aiming at developing the whole man, that is to say his physique, his intellect and his morality, by means of sports. More than one hundred and twenty years have passed, it’s time for Chinese people to reply to this call. Be a sportsman, be a knight !
