Resumen
The aim of the work is to automate the stand that simulates the technological equipment of oil tank farms, including the hydraulic part and automation tools for controlling and monitoring, using the necessary hardware and software, to study the operation of protection and blocking algorithms, alarms and automatic control in accordance with industry regulations and requirements for microprocessor equipment control systems at hazardous production facilities. The objective is to create a modern level and temperature control system. The research uses the method of system analysis, the theory of automatic control, structural solutions of human-machine systems designed to automate production and intelligent support of control processes and the necessary data processing in organizational, technological and distributed control systems. As a result of the study a block diagram of the stand is developed based on the well-known three-level model of a typical automated process control system for monitoring the level and temperature of the tank farm. The novelty of the work lies in building a model of an automated control system for a tank farm with a distributed structure to study its operation. The findings of the research state that the proposed automated control system of the level and temperature monitoring system stand is a model of a real tank farm and implements all the basic functions associated with automating technological and control operations, which allows studying its work in the laboratory. It fully fits into the terms of designing modern automated process control systems, which makes it a good subject for studying as part of advanced training courses for students of educational institutions in the direction of “Automated control systems for oil pipeline transport”.

Resumen
The current level of technology in terms of instruments, devices and software enables the construction of local intelligent transport systems that contribute to the prevention of accidents. It has become possible to build crewless and unmanned vessels. Geographical information services such as Google Maps, Mapbox, OpenStreetMap have already shown their effectiveness. The relevance of the study stems from the possibility to partially automate ship’s route planning nowadays. As navigation monitoring is carried out by means of VHF (very high frequency) - Automatic Identification System (AIS) receivers, the authors propose to collect and analyse data. However, for the construction of the geographical information system and data processing, the authors justified the proposal to build the concept, methodological foundations, mathematical models and scenarios, which will serve as the basis for the development of software for the geographical information system. They propose data types for constructing time/speed matrices for planning optimal routes based on the current navigational situation. The data collected will provide a 12-36 hour forecast and allow for the determination of vessel speeds and times, considering vessel specifications, traffic of other vessels, queue at locks, forecast of hydro- and meteorological conditions, estimates of traffic intensity and density. The service is expected to optimise the route in terms of speed and journey time to meet the transport and logistics challenge.

Resumen
Logistics and transport have become an increasingly important topic in recent years. In this kind of scenario, being able to offer added value to users means an important improvement in the services offered by the different companies. Different actors take part in the process of sending, transportation and collection of the different products through roads, ports and airports. During this process different aspects of security must be taken into account, since an error in one of them can cause major problems for public health, nature or even the economy of a country. With all this in mind, this work proposes a new system that allows us, through the use of wireless technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification, Global Positioning System, Wi-Fi Direct and mobile communication technologies, to automate the process of authentication and tracking of different products and goods. The proposed scheme allows through the use of the cloud the creation of a ubiquitous communications system for monitoring, control and even automation of repositioning orders automatically. In addition, the use of a system based on blockchain allows to carry out the whole process in an optimal way that guarantees the privacy and immutability of the data referring to the transports and merchandise. This work allows to reduce costs and improve the quality of the processes of sending, transport and reception of products for the different companies involved in the supply chain.

Resumen
The article considers the possibility of using planned-prevention system in modern conditions. The system of vehicle telematics and remote diagnostics allows you to automate the getting of correction coefficients to determine the standard values of labor intensity of maintenance and repair and make calculations with high accuracy. The mileage before major repairs or write-off of the vehicle set by the manufacturer is also corrected for coefficients. The use tools of navigation allows you to determine the location of the vehicle in the coordinates of navigation maps with characteristics of the road surface, locality, with the definition of height above sea level and road-climate zoning. This method is an alternative solution that allows you to automate the mileage and labor intensity of technical actions and can be used to clarification parameters. To implement these principles, we propose a flowchart for processing transport telematics data for calculating correction coefficients, followed by calculating the periodicity and labor intensity. The proposed flowchart is implemented by a standard vehicle telematics system, but it can be upgraded with the possibility of remote diagnostics, which allows performing the functions of general diagnostics of individual systems and the vehicle as a whole. The use of systems of transport monitoring make it possible to improve the system of maintenance and repair. Analysis of the existing requirements regulated by documents in the perspective of the capabilities of modern transport telematics systems allows us to justify and create a new approach to the calculation of mileage before technical impacts and adjust the standards for the complexity of performing these impacts. The introduction of the general remote diagnostics function for individual systems and the vehicle as a whole makes it possible to eliminate errors in the calculation of correction coefficients, as well as to prevent the occurrence of failures during operation.

Resumen
Purpose. To increase output of traffic network while deriving new dependencies of transport flow characteristics upon control law parameters and using them to develop an algorithm to automate a process of the transport flow coordinated regulation within towns and cities. Methodology. The aggregated simulation model, describing processes of road traffic formation within a local section of urban traffic system, is used for the analysis of dependencies to assess quality of transport flow control upon correcting conditions being parameters of traffic cycles within intersections. The abovementioned should involve a PID controller as well as a negative feedback idea to automate control of the road traffic process. In this context, control criterion is applied to determine critical flow intensity if a traffic jam occurs. The criterion makes it possible to identify changes in the road traffic nature. To determine the optimal settings of the PID controller for different stocks of the stability control system, the standard deviation of the controlled variable from the set value and the mean static control error are defined. The derived dependencies of control quality criteria upon a law of flow regulation have helped develop a new algorithm of the coordinated automated road traffic control within a local section of urban traffic section using standard control action. Simulation experiments made it possible to assess efficiency of the proposed algorithm of control compared with available ones applied in terms of different road conditions. Findings. As a part of the studies, algorithm of the coordinated automated road traffic has been developed. It helps support maximum output of road systems while monitoring changes in the traffic environment characteristics. Originality. For the first time, dependencies of assessment criteria of traffic flow control upon the parameters of a law of flow intensity regulation have been identified if maximum output of road systems is provided. The dependencies have helped substantiate optimum control criteria for different road conditions while automating a process of coordinated traffic flow regulation within local section of urban traffic network. Practical value. The proposed dependencies of assessment criteria of traffic flow control upon the parameters of a law of flow intensity regulation as well as the algorithm of automated coordinated control are the theoretical foundations to solve such an important applied scientific problem as automation of a process of urban traffic flow regulation.

Resumen
The proposes of article is a fundamentally new method of designing innovative transport systems is the method of developmental design. The object of study to innovative transport systems as part of the general technosphere of the Earth. The purpose of the work is to determine the methods of improving the technical level of innovative transport systems and approaches to their development using scientific knowledge that is on the verge of the world knowledge threshold. The method of developmental design refers to methods of increasing the flexibility of the system while maintaining consistently high operational and economic performance of the system. Research method: system analysis and complex structural-parametric optimization. The existing methods of designing innovative transport systems are based on a combination of heuristic and computational approaches. They provide for the initial formation of the concept of innovative transport systems, the definition of their structural compositions on the basis of intuitive-reflex procedures and the subsequent calculation of technical and economic indicators of all elements of innovative transport systems. A distinctive feature of the existing methods is the insufficient formalization of the first phase of design, and, as a result, insufficient predictability of obtaining the necessary solutions, the lack of guarantees for solving problems in general. This feature, together with the need to automate engineering work and harmonize relations in the system “Nature – Technology – Man” creates the need to find other design methods that would provide more efficient procedures and synthesis results. Keywords: innovative transport systems, innovative development, developmental design, system approach.

Resumen
This project was developed to be designed in a real-time monitoring and alert system, applying the iot concept, for a cooler, which aims to ensure that a cold chain is maintained during a transport stage that uses as coolers. Rather, it is quite an easy-to-use design and other functional systems, which can be used for real-time monitoring as well. This system has the location functions: temperature and temperature control of the cooler, its sound alert emission. If the box temperature monitoring falls into the ideal range, the system detects and emits a sound in the box and sends the temperature, humidity and protection to the actions of an alert location, preserving the immediate actions taken for the cargo transport. A circuit with the Arduino microcontroller is used to automate this system, together with sensors and modules. The results obtained were satisfactory and the tests were carried out with the proposed objective. Therefore, it is concluded that the project worked correctly, meeting the essential requirements of a real-time monitoring system. With this, increasing confidence in the transport of pharmaceutical products, guaranteeing their diligence.

Collaborative driving is a growing domain of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) that makes use of communications to autonomously guide cooperative vehicles on an Automated Highway System (AHS). For the past decade, different architectures of automated vehicles have been proposed, but most of them did not or barely addressed the inter-vehicle communication problem. In this thesis, we address the collaborative driving problem by using a platoon of cars driven by more or less autonomous software agents interacting in a Multiagent System (MAS) environment: the automated highway. To achieve this, we propose a hierarchical driving agent architecture based on three layers (guidance layer, management layer and traffic control layer). This architecture can be used to develop centralized platoons, where the driving agent of the head vehicle coordinates other driving agents by applying strict rules, and decentralized platoons, where the platoon is considered as a team of driving agents with a similar degree of autonomy, trying to maintain a stable platoon.

Resumen
The thesis has as a general aim to analyse if and to what extent automated urban transport systems (AUTS) can provide more sustainable mobility in urban areas. AUTS is defined as a transport system with the following properties. AUTS consist of a fleet of road vehicles with fully automated driving capabilities for passenger transport on a network of roads with on-demand and door-to-door capability. The vehicle fleet is under control of a central management system in order to meet a particular demand in a particular environment. Key Findings are that various related systems and technologies which provide one or more of the functionalities of AUTS have proven to be feasible and to provide some of the benefits anticipated for AUTS. A number of early AUTS applications have already been used or tested since 1997; these systems have proven to be safe and reliable, but various perceived risks so far delayed a wider implementation. Users and stakeholders were able to envisage the potential of AUTS to improve urban mobility, but some concerns remained at this stage over technology being mature enough for systems in mixed traffic. After having used the system, public acceptance increased, as due to the innovative characteristics of AUTS, users who had no direct experience with the system before, developed a different attitude. AUTS vehicle performance parameters including acceleration, deceleration, and jerk are below benchmark values for comparable systems in terms of comfort and safety levels for passengers. AUTS as part of the multi-modal public transport system and with accompanying measures can improve .network efficiency and reduce travel times. The research has shown that there is large potential for AUTS to provide more sustainable mobility in urban areas. But a number of implementation barriers have been identified, which so far have hindered a more widespread and large-scale implementation of AUTS. Future work in this field therefore has to address these issues and to develop means to overcome these barriers in order to realise the potentials of AUTS. Furthermore sensor technologies and robotics algorithms have to be further improved, and new vehicle, infrastructure and operational concepts have to be developed for larger and more advanced systems.

Resumen
Industries such as trade, manufacturing and transportation have undergone significant changes due to the globalization concept. Sea ports play a very important role in building and strengthening the economies of countries worldwide. Due to the high rate of production, the work load has increased at the ports which resulted into financial as well as capacity problems. As a result of such problems, cost optimized and automated solutions are being developed and introduced at the ports. In the horizontal transport system of the sea ports, AGVs are one of those automated solutions used to transport containers from ships to yard and vice versa. Newer and more practices are being employed to make the efficient transportation of these AGVs. Numexia has recently introduced a new version of Cassette AGVs called Zero-Emission C-AGV. A conceptual model is developed for Zero-Emission C-AGVs and different layouts are evaluated using multi agent-based simulation. The greedy algorithm has been used for the efficient dispatching of jobs. The Simulation will carry out the dispatching of jobs for C-AGVs between quay area and yard using different layouts and scenarios for the unloading operation.

Resumen
A large-scale introduction of driverless trucks could start taking place during the next decade. While this could bring several economic benefits for freight transport actors and society, it may also change the freight transport system and exacerbate the negative effects of road transport. This thesis aims to increase the understanding of how an introduction of driverless trucks could materialize and impact the freight transport system in Sweden. Two overarching issues are addressed. The first is how freight transport patterns will change due to the impacts of driverless trucks on road transport supply. This is addressed in Paper 1 and Paper 2. The second issue, which is studied in Paper 3, is what factors are shaping the ongoing development towards an introduction of driverless trucks in Sweden. In Paper 1, the impact of driverless trucks on the costs for long-distance road freight transport is studied through a total cost of ownership analysis which shows that driverless trucks could enable cost reductions of around 30%-40% per ton-kilometer. A key determinant of the cost reduction is to what extent reduced driver costs will be offset by other forms of human labor that may be required for driverless truck operations. Other factors, including changes to the truck acquisition cost, have marginal importance. The cost-saving potential provides a strong motivation for freight transport actors to develop and adopt driverless trucks. In Paper 2, the impacts of driverless trucks on road transport demand, utilization of different truck types, modal split, and total logistics costs are studied by using the Swedish national freight transport model Samgods. Two scenario types are studied, one in which driverless trucks substitute manually driven trucks and one where driverless trucks capable of operating between logistics hubs are introduced as a complement to manually driven trucks. The analysis shows that in both scenarios, driverless trucks could reduce total costs for Swedish freight transport in the range of billions of SEK per year. Road transport demand and truck traffic volumes may increase significantly through modal shifts from rail and sea. This could lead to increased societal costs through, for instance, increased CO2 emissions and congestion which are, however, not quantified in the study. In Paper 3, an analysis of the innovation system of driverless trucks based on an interview study with actors involved in the development and introduction of driverless trucks in Sweden is presented. The findings suggest that there are several favorable factors for a successful introduction of driverless trucks, but also that the innovation system is characterized by a high degree of uncertainty related to what infrastructure will be required and available, what business models will be emerging, and which actors will be able to capitalize on the development and which actors that become marginalized in a future with driverless trucks. The findings from this thesis can be of interest for policymakers since it highlights potential benefits and challenges associated with driverless trucks from a transport-system perspective and the provided indicative quantitative estimates on system-level impacts offer a glimpse into a future freight transport system with driverless trucks. Also, the thesis highlights critical challenges for the innovation system of driverless trucks which could guide efforts to improve its performance.
The monograph discusses the application of telematics in dispatch control systems in urban passenger transport. The role of telematics as a technological basis in automating the solution of control tasks, accounting and analysis of the volume and quality of transport work in modern dispatch control systems on urban passenger transport is shown. Analytical models have been developed to estimate the capacity of a high-speed bus transportation system on a dedicated line. Mathematical models and algorithms for predicting passenger vehicle interior filling at critical stages of urban passenger transport routes are presented. The issues of application of the concept of the phase space of states introduced by the authors to assess the quality of the passenger transportation process on the route of urban passenger transport are described. The developed classification of service levels and their application in order to inform passengers at stopping points about the degree of filling of the passenger compartment of the arriving vehicle is described. The material is based on the results of theoretical research and practical work on the creation and implementation of automated control systems for urban passenger transport in Russian cities. The material of M.H. Duque Sarango's dissertation submitted for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in the specialty 05.22.10 "Operation of motor transport" was used. It will be useful to specialists in the field of telematics on urban passenger transport.

Resumen
AbstractIn this chapter, we will consider selected projects relating to the transport or mobility transformation in rural and suburban areas, examining them in the context of connected and automated driving. The hypothesis outlined in this study is that, while connected and automated transport can fundamentally change the existing “system of automobility” (Urry 2004), the changes in question have to be seen in the context of specific local challenges and contemporary conflicts around mobility systems. This analysis therefore focuses on local mobility projects that look beyond simply replacing automobility’s fossil fuel combustion systems, instead aiming to achieve a broader-based transition via new mobility services such as public transport microsystems, non-profit lift services and car-sharing schemes.

Resumen
AbstractWhen collaborative embedded systems (CESs) connect to form a group, this collaborative system group (CSG) can achieve goals that are beyond the reach of individual systems. The goals such a group can achieve depend on the constituent collaborative embedded systems. Consequently, the ability of a collaborative system group to adapt itself is driven by the capabilities of its collaborative embedded systems. This tight interconnection impedes the manual handling of adaptation strategies. Therefore, this chapter introduces a goal-based approach for strategy exploration that considers the peculiarities of collaborative system groups and collaborative embedded systems. The chapter sets out the model-based approach to adaptive system (group) design, incorporating the goals of collaborative system groups and individual systems, and outlines corresponding automated validation methods. We demonstrate the applicability of our approach for a case example of collaborative transport robots.

Resumen
In the last years, there have been several attempts to deploy Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs) to automate the operation of warehouse environments. The implementation of AGVs has numerous advantages over conventional warehouse automation systems in terms of cost and scalability. In this work, we present the development of a test-bed platform for the utilization of an AGV collective to a warehouse automation system. The system architecture has plug-and-play algorithmic design which makes it extremely modular. In this system, small-scale robotic forklifts are used to transport an arbitrary number of circular pallets to predefined locations. The forklift robots are able to move in the arena without colliding each other due to the implementation of a centralized deconfliction algorithm. A task allocation algorithm prevents the forklift drives from being trapped by a fence of pallets. The performance of the proposed system is validated by both simulation and experimental results.

Resumen
Abstract The importance of automated guided vehicles in flexible manufacturing systems is increasing because they can flexibly respond to changes in facilities and factory layouts. Herein, we propose an autonomous conveyance system for automated guided vehicles based on the operation of a taxi transportation system to solve indefinite and accidental problems. The system focuses on the application of traffic engineering knowledge to a flexible taxi transportation system. A taxi is a transport unit in a traffic system, with high adaptability to traveling routes and arrival/departure points. We also propose a task linear density based on transport density, which is an indicator of the scale of transport, such as that of rail transport. We evaluated the efficiency of an automated guided vehicle (AGV) transportation system that introduced waiting and cruising operations, which determine the taxi behavior, using the task linear density. The results indicate that the average matching time and task linear density were negatively correlated and that the transport efficiency improved when the P/Ds were frequently transported to a centralized location.

Fowler, Camilla. Automation in transport - Leading the UK to a driverless future. TRL, julio de 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.58446/tawj9464.

Texto completo
Resumen
The gap between technology development and automated vehicle deployment has been underestimated and the challenges involved with delivering autonomy have been far greater and more complex than first envisaged. TRL believe that in order for the UK to achieve its potential for automation in transport, the following activities are key in overcoming these challenges: Develop a UK regulatory approval system that enables the safe and secure deployment of automated vehicles in the future. A flexible and responsive regulatory system is needed that can enable innovation by streamlining entry into emerging markets and lessen the initial regulatory burden on developers and manufacturers. Provide a simple, consistent but robust approach to assuring safety during trials and testing to enable and facilitate trials across all UK locations and environments. The approach to safety assurance varies between stakeholders and this inconsistency can provide a barrier to testing in multiple locations or avoiding areas with more stringent requirements. TRL is developing a software tool that could be used to guide and support stakeholders when engaging with trialling organisations. Develop and implement a UK safety monitoring and investigation unit to monitor safety, analyse data, investigate incidents and provide timely feedback and recommended actions. TRL can identify road user behaviours that are likely to lead to a collision. These behaviours could be monitored using in-vehicle data and supplemented with environmental and location data from intelligent infrastructure. This proactive approach would drive safety improvements, promote continuous improvement, accelerate innovation and development and make Vision Zero a more realistic and achievable target. Enable more advanced trials to be undertaken in the UK where the boundaries of the technology are extended and solutions to the identified challenges are explored without compromising safety. London’s Smart Mobility Living Lab (SMLL) provides a unique real-world test facility to conduct advanced tests and validate vehicle behaviour performance. Through testing in a real-world environment and monitoring performance using cooperative infrastructure, we can accelerate learning and technology progression. Accelerate the adoption and safe implementation of automated vehicles for off- highway activities and minimise worker exposure to high risk environments and working practices within the UK and globally. As part of an Innovate funded project on Automated Off-highway Vehicles, TRL has developed and published a draft Code of Practice providing guidance to operators of automated vehicles in all sectors of the off-highway industry.

Hsueh, Gary, David Czerwinski, Cristian Poliziani, Terris Becker, Alexandre Hughes, Peter Chen y Melissa Benn. Using BEAM Software to Simulate the Introduction of On-Demand, Automated, and Electric Shuttles for Last Mile Connectivity in Santa Clara County. Mineta Transportation Institute, enero de 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.31979/mti.2021.1822.

Texto completo
Resumen
Despite growing interest in low-speed automated shuttles, pilot deployments have only just begun in a few places in the U.S., and there is a lack of studies that estimate the impacts of a widespread deployment of automated shuttles designed to supplement existing transit networks. This project estimated the potential impacts of automated shuttles based on a deployment scenario generated for a sample geographic area: Santa Clara County, California. The project identified sample deployment markets within Santa Clara County using a GIS screening exercise; tested the mode share changes of an automated shuttle deployment scenario using BEAM, an open-source beta software developed at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to run traffic simulations with MATSim; elaborated the model outputs within the R environment; and then estimated the related impacts. The main findings have been that the BEAM software, despite still being in its beta version, was able to model a scenario with the automated shuttle service: this report illustrates the potential of the software and the lessons learned. Regarding transportation aspects, the model estimated automated shuttle use throughout the county, with a higher rate of use in the downtown San José area. The shuttles would be preferred mainly by people who had been using gasoline-powered ride hail vehicles for A-to-B trips or going to the bus stop, as well as walking trips and a few car trips directed to public transport stops. As a result, the shuttles contributed to a small decrease in emissions of air pollutants, provided a competitive solution for short trips, and increased the overall use of the public transport system. The shuttles also presented a solution for short night trips—mainly between midnight and 2 am—when there are not many options for moving between points A and B. The conclusion is that the automated shuttle service is a good solution in certain contexts and can increase public transit ridership overall.

Barajas y George. PR-015-05600-R01 Assessment of Sampling Systems for Monitoring Water Vapor in Natural Gas Streams. Chantilly, Virginia: Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI), enero de 2008. http://dx.doi.org/10.55274/r0011197.

Texto completo
Resumen
Research has been conducted to assess the usefulness of various sampling and delivery methods in transporting a representative sample of a natural gas stream for analysis of moisture content. Three sampling configurations commonly used by the natural gas industry were evaluated, including a sample system with a regulated probe heated above ambient conditions, the same system held at a constant temperature simulating ambient conditions, and a heated sample system incorporating a membrane filter. Each configuration was used to transport samples of distribution-quality natural gas with levels of water vapor within common tariff limits, as well as samples of a water-saturated stream of methane simulating a common dehydration system upset. The time response of samples in each configuration to step changes in water vapor content between these two conditions was also evaluated. Measurements were performed using both manual chilled mirror dew point testers and automated analyzers.
