Briend, Simon. "Inference of the past of random structures and other random problems". Electronic Thesis or Diss., université Paris-Saclay, 2024. http://www.theses.fr/2024UPASM013.
Texto completoThis thesis is decomposed in three disjoint parts. The first two parts delve into dynamically growing networks. In the first part, we infer information about the past from a snapshot of the graph. We start by the problem of root finding, where the goal is to find confidence set for the root. We propose a method for uniform L-dags and analyse its performance. It is, to the best of our knowledge, the first method achieving network archaeology in general graphs. Then, we naturally extend the question of root finding to the one of seriation. Given a snapshot of a graph, is it possible to retrieve its whole ordering? We present a method and statistical guarantee of its quality in the case of uniform random recursive trees and linear preferential attachment tree. To conclude the network archaeology section, we study the root bit finding problem, where one does not try to infer the position of the root but its state. In such problems, the root is assigned a bit and is then propagated through a noisy channel during network growth. In the L-dag, we study majority voting to infer the bit of the root and we identify three different regimes depending on the noise level. In the second part of this thesis, we study the so called friendship tree, which is a random recursive tree model with complete redirection. This model display emerging properties, but unlike in the preferential attachment model they stem from a local attachment rule. We prove conjectures about degree distribution, diameter and local structure. Finally, we delve into the world of theoretical machine learning and data analysis. We study a random approximation of the Tukey depth. The Tukey depth is a powerful tool for data visualization and can be thought of as an extension of quantiles in higher dimension (they coincide in dimension 1). Its exact computation is NP-hard, and we study the performances of a classical random approximation in the case of data sets sampled from log-concave distribution
Electronic Thesis or Diss., Toulouse 2, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015TOU20053.
Texto completoUnderstanding the process leading to the construction of a city requires a multidisciplinary approach. Herein are included disciplines such as archeology, history, mathematics, geography and geomatic. The sources should be diverse (archaeological, written, tax, iconographic, planimetric) and the scales varied, from the house to the territory. The city of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, whose development was closely related to the hydrographic network management, was the second largest city of Rouergue in the Late Middle Ages; it constitutes this research lab-area. With the example of this monastic town, a new methodology developed to study medieval urban phenomenon is provided. In order to perceive the dynamics of urban space over time, both medieval and modern tax sources, traditionally used for landscape study, are modeled as adjacency graphs of the plots. The comparison between the cadastral allotment of the Late Middle Ages and the XIXth century is achieved using the graph theory and its intersections with available archaeological data; it allows to approach the arrangement modalities of an urban area

Kaddouri, Lahouari.
• les réseaux de villes de proximité et de voisinage, sur des contraintes d'espacement entre les villes ;
Texto completoThis multidisciplinary project initiated by Sorbonne University aims to provide mathematical and computing solutions to archaeological problems. It deals with the ancient theater of Orange. An extensive literature review allowed to restore this monument thanks to the software Blender. In addition to the visualization part, this project also aims to study the acoustics of the monument. Thus, a numerical simulation tool especially designed for this significant size numerical problems has been developed in C++ in partenership with the CMAP (École polytechnique). The algorithm uses geometric methods thanks to the high frequency approximation. From a sound source, beams carrying a certain amount of energy are propagated in all directions and reflected on the building walls. The method provide the reverberation curve of a room for eight octave bands by considering the materials properties and the propagation medium. The algorithm is optimized by using a Divide and Conquer approach with a hierarchical octree structure. This allow to reduce the quadratic complexity of the ray/element interactions to near-linear and significantly improves computation time. The algorithm is validated by comparison with theoretical test cases. The study of the Orange theater is eventually carried out with this acoustic simulator. Thanks to different output data, it is possible to qualify the acoustic impact of certain theater configurations : presence of ornament or roof, position of spectators or sound sources
Piri, Sara. "Archéologie, typographie et mise en scène du générique de films : les apports de Kyle Cooper". Thesis, Paris Est, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016PESC0029/document.
Texto completoThis thesis proposes a study of the relation between graphic art and cinema through ananalytical approach of film opening credits as a hybrid cinematographic fragment with areunion of graphic elements and cinematographic elements. Through this study, we willanalyze opening credits, from the beginning of cinema until contemporary experiences, following the evolution of a from simultaneously/both graphic and film based on a technicalline constantly shifting with innovations. In this work, we are also interested in fonctions, types, typography and staged opening credits, elements which are expressed according to historical, technical and aesthetic modes. Theaesthetics of typography and its evolution are the subject of a particular attention. This thesis focuses specifically on Kyle Cooper and more precisely on the opening credits ofSe7en with its outstanding style of kinetic typography and its incredible aesthetic andtechnical tour de force. Our goal is to prove the significance of Kyle Cooper’s contribution and why his contributionsfor art of the generic design are so fundamental and substantial across graphic developmentsand opening credits. Cooper had an important part in the rebirth of the art of film credits withSaul Bass in the 1950s
Thesis, Lyon, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020LYSES042.
Texto completoThis study covers the photographic editions of Félix Thiollier (1842-1914), the books he has worked as an editor and / or author, illustrator, photographer. Industrial entrepreneur and amateur scholar who decided to live on his income, Thiollier published from 1881 onwards more than forty works dealing with art, archeology, sometimes tourism and regionalist themes. The thesis seeks to define the structure of the meaning of this set as well as the methodological framework which allows to study the emergence of this meaning, through the consideration of the relationships between text, images, graphics and typography of books. By analyzing the cultural networks in which Thiollier gravitates in Saint-Étienne as in Paris, we identify the unique personality of this publisher, capable of bringing together different social spheres and mixing indifferently with the technical, artistic and scientific networks of his time. The study makes it possible to present the ideological issues that surround the production of works and help to condition their forms. Traditional in appearance but welcoming the latest image reproduction techniques, Thiollier's books mingle with the dying liberal Catholic movement and question the aesthetic and social hierarchies in effect. By paying particular attention to both the conditions of production of works, the networks of actors and the discourses of legitimation, we propose an analysis of the discursive complexes that are the works of Thiollier, who studies their materiality while understanding the pragmatics of forces that conditioned their emergence
Thesis, Bordeaux 3, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012BOR30025/document.
Texto completoThis thesis raises the issue of the use of infographic techniques and synthetic imagery to represent vestiges of the past, in particular archaeological and architectural heritage. Our approach is multidisciplinary. Since infographic systems belong to the category of media-related and cultural inventions that have come into existence since World War II, our study aims to be comprehensive, drawing on Art History, Archaeology, Information and Communications Technology. Our intention is to look beyond the purely technical dimension and to analyse these systems as cultural spaces of representation, within the scientific community (“specialists”) and for the general public (“neophytes”). Representation of built heritage using infographic tools has of course not sprung up spontaneously overnight, whether in the public sphere or in the more restricted sphere of the research community. Although this phenomenon is of course closely correlated with the development of the IT sector, it would be simplistic to regard it only as a consequence of this technological revolution. Indeed, changes in the media and scientific fields have gone hand in hand. The conservation of historic monuments and archaeological sites, their listing as being of public interest and management for exhibition purposes, consequently gives rise to debate and controversy in both the scientific-research and institutional spheres. More generally, these matters raise the issue of “heritage”, as much for ideological as for historical reasons. The purpose, then, of this study is to identify the social and cultural factors that have led to the emergence and development of these practices, which involve a combination of graphics, information technology and scientific research. Thus defined, the context invites us to analyse the ways in which these tools have been used and appropriated by different players in the heritage industry. Finally, we need to consider the material aspect of these images and highlight the areas of mediation which these systems create. In conclusion, it would seem that these new modes of representation exemplify a hybridisation of communication practises and codes of meaning resulting from the mixing of “scientific” and “popular” culture
