Resumen
Artikkelissa tarkastellaan holokaustin ja antisemitismin käsitteen tulkin-toja Anatoli Kuznetsovin romaanissa Babi Jar. Teoksen sensuroitu versio ilmestyi Neuvostoliitossa vuonna 1967. Sensuroimaton versio julkaistiin kolme vuotta myöhemmin englanniksi ja venäjäksi. Kirjailija oli tuolloin jo loikannut Britanniaan. Neuvostoliitossa holokausti yhdistettiin neuvostokansalaisten surmaamiseen toisessa maailmansodassa.

Tarkastelemme kahden eri etnografisen aineiston pohjalta suomenjuutalaisten naisten kokemuksia antisemitismistä nyky-Suomessa.

This article studies eight European countries, investigating how the level of antisemitism as registered in national populations relates to the perception of antisemitism by the Jewish population in the same country. Furthermore, the article empirically identifies distinct aspects of antisemitism, deconstructing the concept of antisemitism and breaking it up into three kinds of empirically differently based and composed antisemitisms (note the plural!): classic antisemitism, Israel-derived antisemitism and Enlightenment-based antisemitism. The article also elaborates on some more general implications for the understanding of the character of antisemitism in contemporary Europe, and based on that, presents some perspectives on the development of the three distinct antisemitisms in contemporary Europe.

This article examines the current globalization of political antisemitism and its effects on the resurgent normalization of anti-Jewish discourse and politics in a global context. The focus is on three political spaces in which the “Jewish question” has been repoliticized and become a salient feature of political ideology, communication, and mobilization: the global radical right, global Islamism, and the global radical left. Different contexts and justificatory discourses notwithstanding, the comparative empirical analysis shows that three interrelated elements of globalized antisemitism feature most prominently across these different political spaces: anti-Jewish conspiracy myths; Holocaust denial or relativization; and hatred of Israel. It is argued that the current process of the globalization of political antisemitism has significantly contributed to antisemitism’s presence in all kinds of public spaces as well as the convergence of antisemitic ideology among a variety of different actors. Moreover, the globalization of political antisemitism has helped accelerate the dissemination and social acceptance of anti-Jewish tropes that currently take shape in broader publics, that is: the globalized mainstreaming of antisemitism. The article concludes by discussing some factors favorable to the globalization and normalization of antisemitism, and the resurgence of antisemitic politics in the current age. Keywords: conspiracy myths, globalization, Holocaust denial, Israel hatred, political antisemitism

Advocatesfor minority rights make stringent demands upon those they defend. The relationship between the persecuted and their defenders is often a minefield of conflicting agendas, made even worse by patronizing attitudes on the one side and wounded pride on the other. One example is the Verein zur Abwehr des Antisemitismus (The Association for Defense Against Antisemitism), founded in Vienna in 1891 to combat the alarming rise of political antisemitism, unmistakable in the stunning electoral successes of the Christian Social Party led by Karl Lueger. Abwehrverein members came from Austria's elite of education and property (Bildung und Besitz): Liberal politicians, large-scale industrialists and merchants, members of the free professions, and artists. Most members were Austro-German liberals, and Liberal Reichsrat deputies sat on its board. Its founder and president was Baron Arthur Gunduccar von Suttner (1850–1902), a writer, and husband of Bertha von Suttner, recipient of the Noble Peace Prize in 1905. My intention is to explore the attitude of the Abwehrverein to Jewry, and to raise the question of whether it served Jewish interests well. But before that, a word or two must be said about the association.

* * *Books on Jewish history in Denmark the last 15 years • The most spectacular work about Jewish culture is without doubt Martin Schwarz Lausten’s six-volume work about the attitude of the Danish Lutheran church towards the Jews and Judaism. It is a work of great precision and with the use of many new sources. Although it is a work on church-history it has a lot to say on Jewish reactions to the church and the state. The volumes are: Kirke og synagoge,De fromme og jøderne, Oplysning i kirke og synagoge, Frie jøder?, Folkekirken og jøderne og Jødesympati og jødehad i folkekirken. Antisemitism has also been in focus and Sofie Lene Baks work on the history of antisemitism in Denmark is probably the most central: Dansk antisemitisme 1930–45. The rescue of the Danish Jews in WWII is without doubt the most researched topic in Danish Jewish history. Many new works have been published. Sofie Lene Baks book on what happened to the Jews when they came back from Sweden I 1945, Da krigen var forbi. It turned out that the municipality of Copenhagen had taken care of many flats and possessions. The history of the Jewish minority has been more in focus than ever. Many new books have been published. Arthur Arnheim’s Truet minoritet søger beskyttelse is the biggest book on the history from seventeenth century until today.

Resumen
The article presents a case study on Antisemitic hate speech in Twitter in the period September 2019 - May 2020, with a particular focus on the months of the Covid-19 emergency. The corpus, consisting of 160.646 tweets selected by keywords, was investigated in terms of the amount of hate for each month, rhetoric and forms of Antisemitism. The analysis is carried out through social network analysis (SNA) techniques, with the goal of understanding whether it is possible to automate the process of identifying Antisemitic hatred. 26.11% of tweets contain hatred, that prejudice is the most common rhetoric (44%) and association with financial power the prevailing form (74%). The sample was also compared with another research methodology that only detects the presence of hate words. It emerges that, in addition to an in-depth knowledge of the phenomenon, it is necessary to integrate the automatic classification phase with the manual contribution.

Abstract The aim of this publication is to critically rethink Manfred Böcker’s classic notion of “Antisemitismus ohne Juden” (Böcker, M. 2000. Berlin: Peter Lang) and to translate it within the contemporary context of the Spanish Nationalpopulismus (Hirschmann, K. 2017. Der Aufstieg des Nationalpopulismus. Wie westliche Gesellschaften polarisiert werden. Bonn: Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung; Wilp, M. 2019. “Konfrontation statt Konsens: Der Aufschwung des Nationalpopulismus in den Niederlanden: Die politische Auseinandersetzung um Migration und Integration.” In Rechtspopulismus in Einwanderungsgesellschaften, edited by H. U. Brinkmann, and I. Panreck, 187–215. Wiesbaden: VS Verlag für Sozialwissenschaften) represented by the radical party Vox España. The existence of a formula of “Anti-Semitism without Jews and without Anti-Semites” (Botsch, G., and C. Kopke. 2016. “Antisemitismus ohne Antisemiten?” In Wut, Verachtung, Abwertung Rechtspopulismus in Deutschland, edited by R. Melzer, D. Molthagen, A. Zick, and B. Küpper, 178–194. Berlin: Friedrich Ebert Stiftung; Wodak, R. 2018. “The Radical Right and Antisemitism.” In The Oxford Handbook of the Radical Right, edited by J. Rydgren, 1–33. Oxford: Oxford Handbooks Online) seems to acquire corporeity in the “Civil-War-like” lexical arsenals (Rivas Venegas, M. 2018. Propaganda activities of Willi Münzenberg in Support of the Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War. An Approximation to His Visual and Rhetorical Communication Strategies. Berlin: Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung / Münzenberg Forum, 2019) of a party acutely connected to its Francoist past and to the paranoia of the “Francmason-Jewish-Bolshevist” conspiracy. This article aims to offer new perspectives on the study of national-populism via the parallel analysis of its “lexical arsenals” and visual-performative dispositives, what we here and in further publications identify as the messa in scena populista. It aims to fulfill the complex task of identifying the latent or indirect traces of Anti-Semitism in a party that chose the Muslim community as its preferred and most visible scapegoat, applied the tested political formula of the transnational nouvelle droite, yet never fully abandoned certain aspects of the Francoist and Spanish fascist worldview.

The issue that followed up by Ariel Muzicant, The Vice President of the European Jewishs Congress, that mounted in the newest paper by title An End to Antisemitism! A Catalogue of Policies to Combat Antisemitis. They uttered that Al-Quran and the Bible has to be revised for the point in which contain anti-semitic doctrine. Some Islamic and Christianic documents that discrimined the Jews must be eliminated and discard. And they argue that the cases of crime on the Jews followers are caused by the doctrine in that Holy Book. This letter will try to answer and explain accusations above, by showing the textual and historical context of the verse which related with the topic. And also showing the reality that happens now adays. Because the Quran in the most of its verses revelation is related with the case that happen in its time revealed (asbab an-nuzul). Without understanding the asbab an-nuzul, the verse meaning and message can be misunderstood. Also with no effort for understanding the verse textual context, to understand its purpose, is nil.

Resumen
Abstract This article summarizes the main findings of a study on antisemitism in schools in Germany. The focus is on the experiences with and perspectives on antisemitism of Jews. In presenting experiences of antisemitism, different dimensions and manifestations of antisemitism are taken into account. On this basis, hostile attitudes and discriminatory actions and their justification are reconstructed. In particular, antisemitism rooting in deflecting guilt and Israel-related antisemitism appear in this context as a problem that emanates not only from students but sometimes also from teachers. As a result, a situation arises for those affected that is essentially characterized by the feeling of being left alone. Established patterns of perception and ways of dealing with antisemitism by non-Jewish teachers contribute to perpetuating the problem of anti-Semitism in schools. Finally, challenges for pedagogical approaches to antisemitism are identified.

Abstract This article explores the Jewish perception of antisemitism in Windsor-Essex by surveying forty-nine Jews living in the area. Those surveyed were asked about their level of concern with the state of antisemitism, possible causes, and how Windsor-Essex compares to other Canadian regions. The researcher found that respondents are moderately concerned with the state of antisemitism. They also identified several dissimilar causes for antisemitism. A majority believe there are similar levels of antisemitism found across Canada. The researcher hypothesizes that demographic factors will impact the respondents’ perception of antisemitism. After a comparative analysis, the researcher finds that there is no such discernable relationship. The researcher believes that future studies need to incorporate factors that go beyond the basic ones to better understand how antisemitism is perceived by Jewish Canadian communities.

Antisemitism is hostility to Jews as Jews, but defining antisemitism is complicated by Zionism and the existence of the State of Israel. The fundamental right to freedom of expression is threatened by the misuse of a definition of antisemitism and claimed examples of antisemitic conduct that encourage confusion between antisemitism and criticism of the policies and practices of the Israeli government and its institutions. The right to express criticism and to debate such policies and practices must not be suppressed by reliance on unsubstantiated claims of antisemitism.

Abstract This article explains the development and face validity of the Generalised Antisemitism (GeAs) scale, which provides an up-to-date measure of antisemitism consistent with the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Working Definition of Antisemitism (generally known as the IHRA Definition). The GeAs scale is comprised of two six-item subscales, each containing a balance of reverse-coded items: the Judeophobic Antisemitism (JpAs) subscale, which tests for endorsement of “classic” prejudicial attitudes towards Jews, and the Antizionist Antisemitism (AzAs) subscale, which tests for endorsement of related attitudes expressed in relation to Israel and its supporters. Both subscales reflect the current state of historical and social scholarship on antisemitism and have already been employed in large-scale survey research with funding from Campaign Against Antisemitism. Findings of a validation study presented elsewhere are summarized, and the scale’s use in future scholarly and stakeholder research is recommended.

Resumen
It was the late distinguished historian and antisemitism scholar, Professor Robert S. Wistrich, who famously described antisemitism as “the longest hatred.” Antisemitism has appeared throughout history in various guises and degrees of intensity and continues, unabated, to the present day. It frequently masquerades as anti-Zionism, sometimes expresses itself as hatred of Jews qua Jews, and may still manifest itself in genocidal form, as the recent tragic murder of Jews at prayer in the Tree of Life Synagogue, Pittsburg, and the Poway Synagogue, San Diego, demonstrate. The changing character of antisemitism and the changing motivations behind it have made it notoriously difficult to define and categorize, although today we have the benefit of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism, which recognizes the continuities between the “old antisemitism” and “contemporary antisemitism” in the form of certain, although not all, criticism of Israel.

Resumen
AbstractThis essay coins a term “Judeopessimism,” engaging questions of some of the contemporary writing on antisemitism and its claim to be historical in nature through the lens of critical race theory, specifically Afropessimism and its offshoots, which make claims of anti-Blackness as political ontology. Is some of this writing on antisemitism really making theological or political ontological claims of “eternal antisemitism” refracted in a less volatile historical narrative? How can critical race theory and its understanding of anti-Blackness help refine, clarify, and push the discussion on antisemitism to be more forthright about its underlying claims? I explore some examples of ontological antisemitism in the writings of Meir Kahane and Naftali Zvi Berlin who each in different ways offer ahistorical and even ontological views on antisemitism that are mostly shunned by contemporary writing on the subject and suggest that Afropessimism offers a helpful way to see beyond the historical veil of how antisemitism is understood today.

Resumen
ABSTRACTThis article examines the anti-antisemitism novels of the 1940s as an indication of the decade's changing attitudes toward Jews, antisemitism, and religious pluralism, and so contributes to scholarly research on both social protest literature and mid-twentieth-century American religious culture. Recent scholarship has shown that American Jews responded to the Holocaust earlier than had previously been assumed. The anti-antisemitism novels of the 1940s were one of the popular culture arenas in which this response to the horrors of Nazi Germany occurred, as fiction proved an ideal genre for imagining and presenting possible solutions to the problem of antisemitism. These solutions often involved a change from a racial to a religious conception of Jews. Laura Z. Hobson's Gentleman's Agreement (1947) was the most culturally significant of this 1940s genre of anti-antisemitism novels (a subgenre of social protest literature), in part because of its foregrounding of non-Jewish responses to antisemitism. Archival research into the roots of Hobson's novel reveals that news of other female authors writing popular anti-antisemitism fiction encouraged Hobson, allowing Hobson to feel part of a movement of anti-antisemitism writers that would eventually extend to her readers, as demonstrated by readers’ letters. Although Will Herberg's Protestant, Catholic, Jew (1955) is frequently cited as the midcentury book that heralded a postwar shift toward religious pluralism, the anti-antisemitism novels of the 1940s reveal signs of this shift a decade earlier.

Resumen
Abstract Europe is facing a new wave of antisemitism, which has grown in recent years. In 2019, the number of reported antisemitic crimes has increased in Germany. On the one hand, Muslim immigrants are suspected of so-called “imported Antisemitism”. On the other hand, right-wing extremism still appears to be the main cause of most antisemitic crimes. Moreover, antisemitism may also be rooted in the left-wing spectrum hiding behind the criticism of Israel and its policies. To analyze the connections of antisemitic attitudes, data from a school survey of 6,715 ninth-graders are used. The results indicate a strong connection between right-wing attitudes and antisemitism as well as left-wing and Islamist attitudes and antisemitism. Higher values of antisemitism are also found among Muslims, but the main predictor of antisemitic attitudes is by far right-wing attitudes.

Resumen
Since 1995, Surveys on antisemitism using national representative samples have been regularly carried out in Hungary. In this article, we used data from the 2011 and 2017 surveys to explore the relationship between three types of antisemitism, namely religious, secular, and emotional. Moreover, we scrutinized how different religiosity indicators can be used as explanatory variables for the different types of antisemitism. We found a slight increase in religious and secular antisemitism between 2011 and 2017, while emotional antisemitism remained almost the same. Religious anti-Judaism significantly correlated with both secular and emotional antisemitism, however, its relationship was much stronger with the former. When analyzing the relationship between different types of antisemitism and religiosity indicators, we found that while in 2011, all the indicators were connected to religious, and most of them to secular and emotional antisemitism, in 2017, only the variables measuring subjective self-classification remained significant. The results show that the relationship between religion and antisemitism underwent some substantial changes between 2011 and 2017. While in 2011, personal religiosity was a significant predictor of the strength of antisemitism, in 2017, religion serving as a cultural identity marker took over this function. The hypothetical explanatory factor for the change is the rebirth of the “Christian-national” idea appearing as the foundational element of the new Hungarian constitution, according to which Christian culture is the ultimate unifying force of the nation, giving the inner essence and meaning of the state. In this discourse, being Christian is equated with being Hungarian. Self-declared and self-defined Christian religiosity plays the role of a symbolic marker for accepting the national-conservative identity discourse and belonging to the “Christian-national” cultural-political camp where antisemitic prejudices occur more frequently than in other segments of the society.

Antisemitism has long been found on both the political far-right and farleft. The recent rise in antisemitism worldwide raises the question of whether current antisemitism is found more with the far-right or far-left, the former a function of right-wing populism and the latter with what has been termed the new antisemitism. This paper uses data from the 2014 round of the European Social Survey in 20 nations to test for the connection between ideological selfplacement and antisemitic attitudes in mass publics. Analysis finds greater levels of antisemitism with the extreme far-right compared to the far-left, but extreme leftists appear slightly more antisemitic than moderate leftist. Further, there is less antisemitism than anti-Muslim and anti-Roma (Gypsy) attitudes at all positions on the left-right continuum. The conclusion puts the findings into context and suggests directions for future research.

The contribution is based on the findings of the theoretical research on antisemitism, while a proposal for a theory of modern antisemitism is formulated. Structural formations of civil society and the socialization of the individual are taken into account. Because antisemitism have to be understood as a negative guiding principle of modernity, a theory of antisemitism must start with the structural forms and contradictions of modern society itself. But it must also go beyond that – and locate the theoretical core of antisemitism in the political itself. At the center of these considerations, the relationship the public, private, and the secret is located, and also the enchanted disenchantment of modern society in its relationship to death.

Resumen
The Tragedy of the Holocaust (the ferocity of persecution, violence, and genocide directed against the Jewish population in Europe) cannot be understood without grasping the historical and cultural background of European antisemitism. This background is where multiple “traditions,” some millennia-old and others more recent, intersect, and their circulation was accelerated by the mass communication means specific to the 20th century (press, printed material accessibility, and an abundance of brochures and pamphlets). It was also facilitated by the literacy of a significant portion of the population. Following the immense socio-political crisis generated by World War I, especially in the defeated countries, this antisemitic background became the fuel that allowed the creation of the explosive mixture represented by the Nazi ideology. The Nazi policy and the chauvinistic nationalism of associated countries were able to thrive successfully in this specific European antisemitic mental framework, which can be historically outlined in several successive historical patterns: cultural antisemitism, religious antisemitism, economic antisemitism, political antisemitism, and racist antisemitism. This work describes and problematizes the “cultural” origins of antisemitism (Judeophobia) in the ancient Greco-Roman world, which laid the roots upon which other justifications for hostility towards Jews and Judaism were constructed.

Abstract This article studies the discursive construction by Jewish communists of the struggle against antisemitism in France between 1944 and the 1960s. It shows that after the Holocaust, without denying the racial aspect of Nazi antisemitism, Jewish communists adopted the French Communist Party and the ussr’s antifascist analysis of antisemitism according to which antisemitism was the corollary of fascism, a strategy to divide people and the working class. However, after the War, Jewish communists’ fight against antisemitism was also shaped by their experiences as Jews during the Holocaust, by their commitment to defend Jewish interests and by their desire to be (re)integrated into the French nation. The author argues that through a specific Jewish and communist antifascist fight against antisemitism, Jewish communists managed to remain faithful to their multiples allegiances – to Jews, to the pcf, and to French universalism – and to reach multiples audiences that identified, at least temporarily, with antifascism.

Resumen
Antisemitism continues to rise on both sides of the Atlantic. Since the last issue of the Journal of Contemporary Antisemitism went to press, the Community Security Trust (CST), a charity that advises and represents the UK’s Jewish community on matters of antisemitism, terrorism, extremism, and security, published its mid-year Antisemitic Incidents Report for January–June 2019.1 It recorded 892 antise-mitic incidents in the UK for the first six months of 2019. This is the highest number of incidents the CST has ever recorded in the January to June period of any year and is a 10 percent increase on the 810 incidents recorded for the same period in 2018. The CST has been recording antisemitic incidents since 1984. While these recorded incidents include vio-lent assault, damage to property, and abusive behavior, 36 percent of the 892 total involve social media, with the highest monthly totals of online antisemitism recorded for February and March, the very months when issues relat-ing to Jews and antisemitism were prominent in the news and politics due to the continuing controversy about antisemitism in the Labour Party. Indeed, a further CST report published in August 2019 titled, Engine of Hate: the online networks behind the Labour Party’s antisemitism crisis revealed that the problem of antisemitism in the Labour Party since 2016 has been fueled by a steady flow of antisemitic tweets and posts on social media. These have spread the lie that concerns about antisemitism in the Labour Party are nothing more than a bad faith attempt to smear Corbyn and have also promoted con-spiracy theories about Israel, Zionists, and Jews.

Abstract To recognize the depths of American antisemitism, this article contends we must dispense with the conventional ways we think about it. This requires a rejection of an “American exceptionalism” in which antisemitism happens elsewhere-in other states, political parties, professions, campuses, and communities. Antisemitism so understood occurs only to the unfortunate, in places we don’t frequent, and at the outer edges of the political spectrum. By contrast, I suggest American antisemitism is so pervasive-so utterly mainstream- that it hides in plain sight.

This article deals with the relationship between the Holocaust and antisemitism, focusing on the events of 2020-2021. The point of departure is the fifth World Holocaust Forum at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, held under the slogan: “Remembering the Holocaust, fighting antisemitism”. The event took place at the invitation of Israel’s president, Reuven Rivlin, in advance of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 23, 2020). Content analysis of the speeches given by presidents and prime ministers from around the world reinforce the insights of the Holocaust and the association with current-day antisemitism. In March 2020 the COVID-19 virus appeared, and a wave of antisemitism surfaced with it. Analysis of contents that appeared on websites and social networks reveals vitriolic antisemitism against Jews as generators of the virus, being the virus themselves. This study utilized the method of anthropologist Clifford Geertz (1926-2006), who established the interpretive approach to anthropology for analyzing culture contents. This, with regard to content analysis in general and to the contents of social networks and their contribution to antisemitism, in particular. Operation “Guardian of the Walls” in Gaza in 2021 further fanned antisemitism. Content analysis of websites and social networks portrays the Jewish soldier as a Nazi soldier and all Jews as murderers – with all the Holocaust symbols and Holocaust language. The study seeks to examine whether and to what degree the educational system in general and guides of youth trips to Poland as mediators of memory in particular, are prepared for the educational challenge of eradicating antisemitism in the post-Holocaust era. The research findings show that the challenge still awaits us. Education is an essential instrument in the battle against antisemitism but the educational system, both formal and informal, is not prepared.

This paper deals with the question of antisemitism in relation to the construction of national identity in late capitalist and post-Nazi societies. Its argument centres on the concept of ‘secondary antisemitism’, as developed within the Critical Theory tradition. Thus, I will elaborate on the complex relationships between post-Nazi antisemitism, the culture industry and the radical destruction of memory in late capitalist societies. The aim is to show the contemporary relevance of secondary antisemitism beyond the immediate context of the task of remembering the Nazi past. In the second section of this paper I will illustrate this by an analysis of examples from print media debates in Austria on the recent financial crisis and show that instances of secondary antisemitism are utilized for the discursive construction of an exclusive national(ist) unity.

Some recent trends in the study of National Socialism tend to downplay the significance of antisemitism*—in particular of Christian antisemitism—in producing the Holocaust. Indeed, it would be inaccurate and misleading to present the Christian legacy of hostility toward Judaism and Jews as a sufficient cause for Nazi genocide. Christianity, however, did play a critical role, not perhaps in motivating the top decision makers, but in making their commands comprehensible and tolerable to the rank-and-file—the people who actively carried out the measures against Jews as well as those who passively condoned their implementation. In his analysis of pre-Nazi forms of German antisemitism, Donald Niewyk concludes that, “The old antisemitism had created a climate in which the ‘new’ antisemitism was, at the very least, acceptable to millions of Germans”.

Resumen
This paper provides a basis for re-examining the contemporary connections of antisemitism and racism through an examination of the conceptual and theoretical parameters of the concept of racism. It argues that racism is a broad and dynamic category, the forms of which must be seen as varied and constantly changing. Thus although ‘new antisemitism’ arguments are wrong to propose a strong connection between opposition to Israel and antisemitism, they are correct to argue that antisemitism has changed and that its current forms are connected to the changes that Israel has brought about for the position of Jews. However, examining antisemitism as a variety of racism requires us to investigate racism in general in the conflicts in, and surrounding, Israel-Palestine. The paper argues for a structural concept of racism in these conflicts. While criticising the ‘apartheid’ framing of Israeli racism, it argues that anti-Palestinian racism is structurally embedded in Israeli society at many levels, and that recent wars have exacerbated this racism on a much larger scale than the antisemitism which they have also stimulated.

Resumen
Abstract Education is possibly the profession most frequently addressed with expectations of dealing with contemporary forms of antisemitism. However, the topic is not prominently discussed in the field of didactics and teachers report of feelings of overburdening, dealing especially with forms of antisemitism relating to the State of Israel and the Middle East Conflict. These forms are the most controversial variations of antisemitism and also the ones often not mentioned and also not interpreted and responded appropriately. The paper argues for a stronger awareness of non-intended effects of education on antisemitism. It shows their relevance focussing three exemplary contexts regarding spontaneous interventions to antisemitic statements as well as pedagogic concepts represented in published documents. Without a profound understanding of antisemitism as a complex phenomenon with specific patterns, awareness for possible non-intended effects can hardly be reached.

Abstract: Existing scholarship on contemporary antisemitism tends to sacrifice breadth for depth, typically focusing on a specific dimension of the phenomenon or a single national or ideological context. This myopia threatens to limit our understanding of current antisemitism because separate parts of a complex picture are studied in isolation, and because crucial questions about temporal and cross-national variation remain understudied. To help remedy this situation, this article introduces a more comprehensive conceptual and empirical framework along with a new dataset intended to encourage the study of antisemitism as a multidimensional, cross-national, and dynamic phenomenon. The framework provides a model for studying antisemitism in four core dimensions—attitudes, incidents, cultural imagery, and Jews’ exposure—and specifies relevant variables and indicators, thus facilitating future research and data collection efforts. To supplement the framework, the article introduces a new dataset (DIMA—Dimensions of Antisemitism) featuring publicly available data covering three of the four dimensions: attitudes, incidents, and exposure. Based on patterns emerging from these data, hypotheses for further study are suggested. These contributions are intended to prepare the ground for a new and theoretically more ambitious research agenda in the field of contemporary antisemitism research.

Resumen
In this text I examine the online presence of antisemitism and the ways it is spreading on a global level. I focus on different forms of antisemitism, distributed through numerous social network platforms. I also dwell on the possible causes of this phenomenon, with all its consequences. Antisemitism has always been present in public discourse, and thus its presence in online space is not new or unusual, but what surprises is certainly a significant failure of responsible institutions to prevent this phenomenon and punish perpetrators. In the last ten years, the level of online antisemitism has significantly risen. Covert and overt types of antisemitism on social networks represent a serious social problem, and a threat directed not only towards the Jewish community, but also towards every society that fosters the values of human rights, equality, peaceful communication and non-violence in all its forms.

Resumen
Abstract The article discusses criteria for better educational resources on the critique of antisemitism in religious education. The thesis is formulated that religious education has a corrective and broadening function with respect to perceptions of everyday experiences. Considering examples from school textbooks, the article argues for educational resources that take seriously both everyday experiences of antisemitism and the critiques of antisemitism in religious education.

Resumen
Online technology has produced expressions of antisemitic abuse that, whether or not they are novel in content, do have novel experiential consequences. Online platforms have broadened, although not necessarily deepened, the Jewish experience of antisemitism. At the same time, they have multiplied the opportunities for Jewish action against antisemitism. However, the rapid growth in “decentralized” Jewish activism against antisemitism raises questions about its efficacy and the consequences for Jews who engage in this kind of activism. Thus, the practice of countering online antisemitism is therefore nascent, ill-understood, and imperfectly mapped. Above all, the experience of those engaged in this world is under-researched. This research note sketches agendas for research and Jewish communal action that might respond to these developments at a time when “exhaustion” has become a key experiential component of the contemporary Jewish experience of antisemitism and the fight against it.
