Resumen
In this article we show that the probability for an electron tunneling a rectangular potential barrier depends on its angle of incidence measured with respect to the normal line. The majority of the studies in the field consider a one-dimensional tunneling of an electron of mass in a potential barrier along the -axis. Using a two-dimensional approach, we observed that the angle of incidence of the electron influences the probability of tunneling.

AbstractThis study examined the effects of a rider on the angular momentum and angular velocity of the jumping horse, particularly during the flight phase. Sagittal plane video recordings were digitized of eight horses jumping a vertical fence (1 m high) under two conditions: Loose and Ridden. An experienced rider rode the horses during the Ridden condition. Using appropriate segmental inertial data for the horse and rider, angular momentum and angular velocity were calculated for the Loose and Ridden conditions. Estimates of the various rider effects on angular momentum and angular velocity were obtained by comparison of Loose and Ridden conditions and examination of the contributions of the horse and rider segments to the total angular momentum. The results showed that the rider's effect on angular momentum was significant but that the rider's segmental contribution to the angular momentum of the horse–rider system was minimal. Repeated-measures ANOVA revealed that the rider had a significant effect on the angular momentum and angular velocity of the horse during the flight phase (P<0.01). However, the rider did not have a significant effect on the transfer of angular momentum during the flight. We concluded that the rider's instruction has a greater influence on the horse's motion than the mechanical transfer between rider and horse.

Discrete point cloud data from unmanned aerial vehicle laser scanning (UAV-LS) can provide information on the three-dimensional structure of a forest, the leaf area index (LAI) at the landscape or sample plot scales, the distribution of the vertical forest structure at a fine resolution, and other information. The retrieved parameters, however, may be affected in a non-negligible way by the inclusion of scan angle information. In this study, we introduced a relational model that encompasses the angular effect, predicted the mechanism of this effect, and extracted the vegetation structure indices that the angular effect might influence. Second, we quantified the direct and indirect effects, particularly the magnitude of the angular effect in broadleaf forests, and used mediated effects to investigate the components and processes that influence the angular effect. The findings demonstrate that some of the differences between the LAIe extracted by UAV-LS and the Decagon LAIe considering the angular effect of UAV-LS can be explained by adjusting physical LiDAR parameters (aerial height, laser divergence fraction, and scanning angle) and vertical forest structure variables. Along continuous and closed forest vertical gradients, the indirect angle impact is negative for the upper canopy and positive for the understory. Three-dimensional vegetation measurements were created using multiangle LiDAR data. In conclusion, this article (1) addresses the angular effect in UAV-LS; and (2) discusses how the angular effect affects 3D vegetation parameters such as LAIe, demonstrates the nonlinear trend of the angular effect, and demonstrates how multiangle LiDAR data can be used to obtain 3D vegetation parameters. This study serves as a reference for reducing the uncertainty in simulations of the angular effect and vegetation light transmission, in addition to the uncertainty in analyses of the vegetation characteristics determined by UAV-LS (e.g., the uncertainty of LAIe).

Angular misalignment is unavoidable in most applications of rolling-element bearings. The goal of this study is to examine the effects of angular misalignment on the running torque of angular contact ball bearings. A computational method to calculate the running torque of misaligned angular contact ball bearings was introduced. Then, the effects of angular misalignment, along with radial and axial loading, on the running torque of angular contact ball bearings were investigated for two representative preloading methods: constant-force preload and constant-displacement preload. The simulation results showed that (1) the angular misalignment, irrespective of bearing loading, significantly increases the angular contact ball bearing running torque when the constant-displacement preload method was implemented, and (2) the angular misalignment has an insignificant effect on the angular contact ball bearing running torque when the constant-force preload method was adopted. Furthermore, an extensive simulation was performed to examine the effect of load-induced angular misalignment on the running torque of angular contact ball bearings implemented in a geared shaft system. The simulation results showed that the radial load-induced angular misalignment requires additional running torque to the actual rotor-bearing systems, especially when using the constant-displacement preload.

Light containing twisted phase structures, i.e. light carrying orbital angular momenta (OAM), when propagating inside ring-core fibres leads to a complex interference dynamics resulting in the fundamental self-imaging phenomenon known as the Talbot effect in the angular domain. We study the effect in the classical and quantum optics domain and show that it can be used to implement higher-order beams splitters. Interestingly, such beam splitting operations become more compact the higher the splitting ratio. In addition, we show that a similar self-imaging effect appears for whispering gallery modes carrying OAM in step-index multi-mode fibres, which enables the application of the angular Talbot effect in off-the-shelf components. Finally, we extend the study of the angular Talbot effect through combing it with its Fourier-analogue, i.e. the Talbot effect in orbital angular momentum space. Thereby we implement the generalized angle-orbital-angular-momentum Talbot effect, which enables full control over the angular intensity distribution as well as the OAM spectrum of the light field. Moreover, the complex self-imaging dynamics can be used to sort OAM light fields, in principle, without any crosstalk and, thus, can be seen a promising method for OAM multiplexing schemes.

The optical rotational Doppler effect occurs when vortex beams are scattered by rotating objects and demonstrate the Doppler frequency shifts in scattered beams, which are associated with the optical angular momentum of vortex beams and the relative rotating angular velocity. Here, we investigate the rotational Doppler effect of a rotating vector beam in its tight focusing and find that similar Doppler frequency shifts arise when the polarization order and vortex charge satisfy some specific relations. We note that the vortex charge is the indispensable parameter in the rotational Doppler effect of the vector vortex beam. Nonetheless, the sign and magnitude of the frequency shift are only determined by the angular frequency of the rotating beam and are irrelevant to the vortex charge of the beam. In addition, the on-axis energy flow and spin angular momentum in the focal plane can also be well modulated, accompanying the rotational Doppler effect of the vector vortex beam. Our results may be applied to an optical micro-manipulation, especially for some kinds of microparticles which are sensitive to frequency changes.

Among these are the Danner et al. oscillations, the “third angular effect", and very rich angular oscillations discovered by Lee et al. The physical meaning of the latter oscillations is shown to be related to interference effects.

We present here a minor modification of our numerical implementation of the Hall effect for the 2D Riemann solver used in Constrained Transport schemes, as described in a former paper. In the previous work, the tests showed that the angular momentum was not conserved during protostellar collapse simulations, with significant impact. By removing the whistler waves speed from the characteristic speeds of non-magnetic variables in the 1D Riemann solver, we were able to improve the angular momentum conservation in our test-case by one order of magnitude, while keeping the second-order numerical convergence of the scheme. We also reproduce the simulations of a previous study with consistent resistivities, the three non-ideal magnetohydrodynamic effects and initial rotation, and agree with their results. In this case, the violation of angular momentum conservation is negligible in regard to the total angular momentum and the angular momentum of the disk.

The rich physics exhibited by random optical wave fields permitted Hanbury Brown and Twiss to unveil fundamental aspects of light. Furthermore, it has been recognized that optical vortices are ubiquitous in random light and that the phase distribution around these optical singularities imprints a spectrum of orbital angular momentum onto a light field. We demonstrate that random fluctuations of intensity give rise to the formation of correlations in the orbital angular momentum components and angular positions of pseudothermal light. The presence of these correlations is manifested through distinct interference structures in the orbital angular momentum–mode distribution of random light. These novel forms of interference correspond to the azimuthal analog of the Hanbury Brown and Twiss effect. This family of effects can be of fundamental importance in applications where entanglement is not required and where correlations in angular position and orbital angular momentum suffice. We also suggest that the azimuthal Hanbury Brown and Twiss effect can be useful in the exploration of novel phenomena in other branches of physics and astrophysics.

The effects of gravity and an angular velocity profile on the performance of an automatic ball balancer (ABB) are studied in this paper. In order to investigate these effects, a physical model of a Jeffcott rotor with an ABB is adopted in this study, in which gravity as well as the angular acceleration is considered. With the polar coordinates, the non-linear equations of motion are derived by using Lagrange's equation. These equations include gravity, the angular acceleration, and the angular jerk. Based on the equations derived, time responses are computed by using the generalized α method. The effects of gravity on the balancing performance are analysed. For various angular velocity profiles, the ABB performance is also evaluated. The analysis of results shows that the balancing of the rotor with an ABB can be achieved regardless of gravity. It is also shown that a smooth velocity profile results in less vibration compared with a non-smooth velocity profile.

The vestibular coriolis (or "cross-coupling") effect is traditionally explained by cross-coupled angular vectors, which, however, do not explain the differences in perceptual disturbance under different acceleration conditions. For example, during head roll tilt in a rotating chair, the magnitude of perceptual disturbance is affected by a number of factors, including acceleration or deceleration of the chair rotation or a zero-g environment. Therefore, it has been suggested that linear-angular interactions play a role. The present research investigated whether these perceptual differences and others involving linear coriolis accelerations could be explained under one common framework: the laws of motion in three dimensions, which include all linear-angular interactions among all six components of motion (three angular and three linear). The results show that the three-dimensional laws of motion predict the differences in perceptual disturbance. No special properties of the vestibular system or nervous system are required. In addition, simulations were performed with angular, linear, and tilt time constants inserted into the model, giving the same predictions. Three-dimensional graphics were used to highlight the manner in which linear-angular interaction causes perceptual disturbance, and a crucial component is the Stretch Factor, which measures the "unexpected" linear component.

Recent work on the angular distribution of sputtering yields is reviewed and then compared with experiment. The most probable angular distribution law is evaluated from experiment. By averaging over an incident Maxwellian spectrum of ions, it is shown that there is considerable enhancement over the isotropic case, which would increase the total sputtering at the walls or limiters of fusion reactors over the example of an isotropic angular distribution.

Welding process is joining method which is extensively utilized in shipbuilding and automotive industry. Distortion is a classic problem encountered during the welding process which always occurs in welding processes. Distortion on weld joint involves many parameters that influence such as properties of materials and welding parameters. The objective of this work is to investigate effect of various processes of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) on angular distortion in low carbon steel weld joints. To obtain optimum parameters of angular distortion, the effect various welding parameter is analysed using Taguchi Method. In this work, the effect of groove type, welding current and root opening are investigated for determining angular distortion. Taguchi method with L9 orthogonal array is utilized to analysed contribution for each parameter. ANOVA results revealed that the welding current the significant contribution parameter, on the other hand root opening shows minimum contribution to determine angular distortion value. Optimum parameter is obtained with groove type, welding current and root opening is X, 75A and 3 mm, respectively. Welding current parameter is considered the most significant contribution to determine for angular distortion effect due to has the highest contribution (50.04 %) than the other parameters groove type and root opening, with contribution value 21.76 %, 2.38%, respectively. Moreover, hardness test result on weld joint shows that X type groove has maximum hardness number than the other groove type.

We present the design of a magnetic encoder to measure angular position. The proposed encoder includes two Hall sensors in quadrature in a fixed platform. In addition, and over the sensors, there are two permanent magnets in a shaft. The relative motion between the fixed and the movable components generate a voltage variation in the sensors, which serve to generate the approximation of the angular position. We detail the acquisition process and the linearization method, because we consider that these are the most important contributions of this work. Lastly, we show the application of the encoder in the position control of a direct current motor to show the performance of the encoder estimating fast and slow angular position changes.

In this paper, we investigate the spin Hall effect of a polarized Gaussian beam (GB) in a smoothly inhomogeneous isotropic and nonlinear medium using the method of the eikonal-based complex geometrical optics which describes the phase front and cross-section of a light beam using the quadratic expansion of a complex-valued eikonal. The linear complex-valued eikonal terms are introduced to describe the polarization-dependent transverse shifts of the beam in inhomogeneous nonlinear medium which is called the spin Hall effect of beam. We know that the spin Hall effect of beam is affected by the nonlinearity of medium and include two parts, one originates from the coupling between the spin angular momentum and the extrinsic orbital angular momentum due to the curve trajectory of the center of gravity of the polarized GB and the other from the coupling between the spin angular momentum and the intrinsic orbital angular momentum due to the rotation of the beam with respect to the central ray.

The effect of angular misalignment between inner and outer raceways on the stiffness characteristics of tapered roller bearings (TRBs) is investigated. A computational procedure is introduced to solve the equations of TRB in the presence of angular misalignment. A dynamic analysis of a spindle supported by TRBs is also performed to investigate the natural frequency behavior by the stiffness variation due to angular misalignment. An extensive simulation demonstrates the effect of angular misalignment on the TRB characteristics such as roller–raceway contact loads, radial and axial displacements, and induced moment load. Computational results show that angular misalignment alters TRB stiffness characteristics and results in the splitting of the spindle natural frequencies by inducing anisotropic behavior of the TRBs. The proposed model and computational procedure are effective in estimating TRB characteristics and thus would aid in selecting TRBs or determining TRB loading conditions in practical applications.

This study investigates the effect of crystal electrons on the angular distribution of channeled protons passing through a thin silicon crystal. The effect of crystal electrons on the 2 MeV proton beam channeled through a thin Si crystal plays an important role in the experimentally observed angular distributions. Using the crystal rainbow effect, we have morphologically compared the experimental and theoretical angular distributions of channeled protons and corresponding rainbow lines, with and without the effect of crystal electrons. Our results demonstrate that the influence of crystal electrons affects the angular focus of the channeled ions in the vicinity of the rainbow lines, which are the envelope of this angular distribution. These findings provide insights into the energy loss mechanisms for protons channeled through thin silicon crystals and can have implications for future studies in ion beam physics.

The Fresnel’s formula is reduced in terms of conductivity and angular frequency so that nature of absorption coefficient with respect to conductivity of plasma and angular frequency of wave is studied, with the assumption that conductivity and angular frequency are two independent terms. By keeping conductivity of plasma constant, it is seen that the absorption coefficient is increased with increase in angular frequency and also absorption coefficient has the lowest value for the highest value of conductivity. At constant angular frequency of incidence, the absorption coefficient is decreased with increase in conductivity and also absorption coefficient has the highest value of angular frequency of incidence. Also the nature of force on the plasma is studied by considering that the conductivity of plasma is very large with compare to angular frequency of incident laser. The expression of absorption coefficient is separated into real and imaginary parts, and then plots are studied with respect to these parts. It is found that in both cases, the force on plasma is existed for short in time and distance, and then damps exponentially. Also, the variation of potential with distance is cleared that the potential is shielded within multiple distance of Debye length.

<p>We have studied the effect of phase difference between different multiple beams on the photoelectron angular distribution in three photon ionization of atomic hydrogen by using Dalgarno-Lewis methods. It has been found that both total and photo-electron angular distribution vary with laser intensity, phase and polarization of different beams. Intensity dependance of corresponding assymetry parameters has also been studied. We have shown that this variation with laser intensity is caused by two effects: the effect of phase and polarization of different beams. Interaction between energetic electrons and a circularly polarized laser pulse in a relativistic plasma channel is studied. Laser radiation can be resonantly absorbed by electrons executing betatron oscillations in the channel and absorbing angular momentum from the laser. The absorbed angular momentum manifests itself as a strong axial magnetic field (inverse Faraday effect). The magnitude of this magnetic field is calculated and related to the amount of the absorbed energy.

We investigate the spin angular momentum (SAM) of double-index cylindrical vector beams in tight focus. Such a set of beams is a generalization of the conventional cylindrical vector beams since the polarization order is different for the different transverse field components. Based on the Richards-Wolf theory, we obtain an expression for the SAM distribution and show that if the polarization orders are of different parity, then the spin Hall effect occurs in the tight focus, which is there are alternating areas with positive and negative spin angular momentum, despite linear polarization of the initial field. We also analyze the orbital angular momentum spectrum of all the components of the focused light field and determine the overwhelming angular harmonics. Neglecting the weak harmonics, we predict the SAM distribution and demonstrate the ability to generate the focal distribution where the areas with the positive and negative spin angular momentum reside on a ring and are alternating in pairs, or separated in different semicircles. Application areas of the obtained results are designing micromachines with optically driven elements.

The steel St3 was processed by equal channel angular pressing. The structure and properties of the steel after two ECAP passes were determined. The different routes (Bc and C) resulted in different microstructure evolution during the equal channel angular pressing. It has been shown that equal channel angular pressing is a very suitable method for produce materials with good mechanical properties.

Effects of the various neutron emission energy spectra, as well as the influence of the angular momentum of pre-scission neutrons on theoretical predictions of fission fragment angular anisotropies for several heavy-ion induced fission systems are considered. Although theoretical calculations of angular anisotropy are very sensitive to neutron emission correction, the effects of the different values of kinetic energy of emitted neutrons derived from the various neutron emission energy spectra before reaching to the saddle point on the prediction of fission fragment angular distribution by the model are not significant and can be neglected, since these effects on angular anisotropies of fission fragments for a wide range of fissility parameters and excitation energies of compound nuclei are not more than 10%. Furthermore, the theoretical prediction of fission fragment angular anisotropy is not sensitive to the angular momentum of emitted neutrons.

The equations of motion of a prismatic isotropic Timoshenko beam with a tip mass and attached to a rotating hub are derived including the effects of centrifugal forces which appear in the equations of motion as nonlinear functions of the angular speed. The Rayleigh-Ritz method is used to obtain approximate solutions for the cases of a prescribed torque profile and a prescribed hub angular speed profile. In the case of a constant torque input, the effect of the centrifugal forces is not observed until sufficient angular speed is reached. When the system is driven under a constant velocity, it is observed that, for a sufficiently high angular speed, the centrifugal forces reduce the vibration amplitude.

Abstract We use an analytic framework to calculate the evolution of binary orbits under a physically motivated model that accounts for angular momentum loss associated with winds from an accretion disk around the compact-objected accretor. Our prescription considers wind mass ejection from the surface of an accretion disk, accounting for a radial mass-loss dependence across the disk surface. We compare this to the standard prescription of angular momentum loss associated with isotropic mass loss from the vicinity of the accretor. The angular momentum loss from a disk wind is always larger. For mass ratios, q, between 2 and 10, angular momentum loss via a disk wind can be ≃3–40 times greater than the standard prescription. For the majority of mass ratios and disk properties, accounting for the disk wind can result in considerably smaller orbital separations compared to the standard formalism, the differences being ≃60% depending on how long the effect is integrated for. We conclude that it is important to consider the effects of angular momentum loss from a disk wind when evolving binary orbits.

The precision of two-dimensional angular sensing is crucial for applications such as navigation, robotics, and optical alignment. Conventional methods often struggle to balance precision, dynamic range, and affordability. We introduce a novel method leveraging the Talbot effect, enhanced by 3D printing technology, to fabricate a grating prototype for high-precision angular measurements. The method detects amplitude grating displacement at the self-imaging position and employs a frequency filtering algorithm for improved accuracy. Rigorous validation through simulations and physical experiments demonstrates that our method achieves a detection resolution of 0.4 arcseconds and a dynamic range exceeding 1400 arcseconds. This research presents a cost-effective, high-precision angular detection solution with potential for broad application in precision mechanical assembly, optical alignment, and other relevant domains.

In this paper, the sensing mechanism of the embedded time-grid angular displacement sensor is used to analyze the compensation effects of Harmonic error compensation, HHT-ELM Error Compensation, PSO-BP neural network error compensation, and Multi-step compensation effects of Harmonic error compensation, HHT-ELM Error Compensation, PSO-BP neural network error compensation, and Multi-step calibration method are analyzed and compared to find that the Multi-step calibration method has the best compensation effect but the compensation system is complex and suitable for places with high accuracy requirements. compensation, HHT-ELM error compensation, and Harmonic error compensation. and as the compensation effect decreases the compensation method also tends to be simpler.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of partial excision of the A2 and A4 pulleys on digital angular rotation and the energy required to flex the finger. Partial excision of A2 resulted in a statistically significant decrease in angular rotation of 3 and 5% after 50 and 75% excision, respectively. Partial excision of A4 failed to produce any significant differences in angular rotation. Combined partial excision of A2 and A4 resulted in a significant decrease of 5 and 8% after 50 and 75% excision, respectively. Significant differences in work of flexion occurred only after excision of 75% of the A2 pulley. Although optimal finger function relies on the integrity of the A2 and A4 pulleys which maintain the efficiency of the digital flexor system, these data suggest that 25% of the A2 pulley, up to 75% of the A4 and 25% of the A2 and A4 together can be excised without significant effects on angular rotation.

We present a study of spin vector orientation of 1331 SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey) galaxies in SDSS Supercluster S[202-001+0084] having redshift 0.02 to 0.03. The data are provided by our collaborator, Institute of Astro-particle Physics, Innsbruck University, Austria. We have converted two dimensional data to three dimensional by Godlowskian Transformation. Our aim is to find out non-random effects in the preferred alignments of angular momentum vectors of galaxies. In general, no preferred alignments angular momentum vectors of galaxies are noticed, supporting Hierarchy model of galaxy formation. In almost all sub samples the 1st order Fourier coefficient suggests that the angular momentum vectors are randomly oriented but other statistical tests suggest anisotropic distribution probably due to the binning effect and gravitational shearing effect.

The double-row self-aligning ball bearing commonly runs with angular misalignment between the inner and outer rings, and the angular misalignment significantly affects the bearing performance. However, the effect of angular misalignment on the dynamic characteristics of the double-row self-aligning ball bearing has not been studied thoroughly. This paper investigates the effect of angular misalignment on the stiffness of the double-row self-aligning ball bearing. The quasi-static model for the double-row self-aligning ball bearing is established with five degrees of freedom, namely, three translational displacements along x, y, and z directions and two tilting angles around x-axis and y-axis. The internal clearance between balls and raceways is included in the presented model. The formulation of the three-dimensional stiffness matrix for the double-row self-aligning ball bearing is analytically derived, and is verified by comparing with the available dada in published literature. Finally, the stiffness of the double-row self-aligning ball bearing under various angular misalignment conditions is analyzed systematically. The results show that the tilting angles vary the contact angles and contact forces of the compressed balls in the double-row self-aligning ball bearing, thus affect the bearing stiffness; the bearing stiffness decreases with the internal clearance; the angular misalignment significantly impacts the stiffness of the bearing running at a low speed.

We discuss the transport of angular momentum induced by tidal effects in a disk surrounding a star in a pre–main sequence binary system. We consider the effect of both density and bending waves. Although tidal effects are important for truncating protostellar disks and for determining their size, it is unlikely that tidally–induced angular momentum transport plays a dominant role in the evolution of protostellar disks. Where the disk is magnetized, transport of angular momentum is probably governed by MHD turbulence. In a non self–gravitating laminar disk, the amount of transport provided by tidal waves is probably too small to account for the lifetime of protostellar disks. In addition, tidal effects tend to be localized in the disk outer regions.
