The main trunk lines of the Rhodesian railway system were built under the aegis of Cecil Rhodes' British South Africa Company (BSA Co.) between 1890 and 1911. This article begins with an analysis of the motivations behind railway construction during this period. It argues that interpretations which set up a dichotomy between ‘Rhodes-as-imperialist’ and ‘Rhodes-as-capitalist’ are misconceived. Nevertheless, it shows how the motivations behind railway development took on a more narrowly economic and financial character after the fiasco of the Jameson Raid in 1896 put paid to Rhodes' sub-imperial ambitions.There follows an analysis of the economic and financial foundations of the BSA Co.'s regional railway monopoly. The article charts how railway construction was sustained through the manipulation of the interlocking interests of the BSA Co. and the Witwatersrand; through the creation of a ‘group structure’ of railway companies; and through the triangular relationship which developed between the BSA Co., Paulings, the monopoly contractor, and d'Erlangers, the chief broker and underwriter of railway loan (debenture) capital.Finally, two fundamental allegations made by critics of the railway policy of the BSA Co. are assessed: firstly, that debenture finance was a means of distributing disguised dividends to itself and its friends; secondly, that these disguised dividends were paid for by the settlers through exorbitant railway rates. The nature of debt within the railway monopoly, the functions of debenture finance and the imperatives which shaped rating policy are discussed. The allegations are revealed to be ill-founded. It is argued that the tensions between the settlers and the BSA Co., their interdependence notwithstanding, were rooted in conflicting perceptions of what the priorities and parameters of economic development should be.

Mid-mountain ecosystems provide a broad diversity of resources, heterogeneous relief, and a mild climate, which are all very useful for human necessities. These features enable different strategies such as the terracing of the slopes as well as wide crop diversification. Their relations lead to a parallel co-evolution between the environment and human societies, where fire and grazing become the most effective landscape management tools. This paper presents the results obtained from a multi-proxy study of the Bermú paleoenvironmental record, which is a minerotrophic mire located in the Quintos de Mora National Hunting Reserve (Toledo Mountains, central Spain). The bottom of this core has been dated in the Islamic period (ca. 711–1100 cal AD), and the study shows how the landscape that was built over time in the Toledo Mountains up to the present day is narrowly linked to human development. This study shows the increasing human pressure on the landscape, as well as the subsequent strategies followed by the plant and human communities as they faced diverse environmental changes. Thus, it is possible to attest the main role played by the humans in the Toledo Mountains, not only as a simple user, but also as a builder of their own reflexion in the environment.

ABSTRACT This paper studies the design of co-located spaces and how organizational actors experience such spaces. The literature on co-location is ambiguous about how reduced physical distance increases collaboration. To address this problem, we draw on an ethnographic study of a co-located railway control center, housing the largest Dutch railway organizations under one roof. Although the intention of the co-location was to improve collaboration by bringing different organizations into closer proximity, our findings tell a different story. Railway employees developed several territorial practices (preserving existing boundaries, creating new boundaries, and the situational use of boundaries) through which they resisted the design of the control center, thereby changing the control center from co-located to “dis-located.” We argue that understanding the relationship between co-location and collaboration should not only focus on how such spaces are designed but, rather, account for how spaces where collaboration is demanded are experienced and used by employees.

China Railway Fourth Bureau Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as China Railway Fourth Bureau) is a large-scale construction enterprise with comprehensive construction capabilities and a "benchmark" member unit of China Railway Co., Ltd., a Fortune 500 enterprise in the world. This paper briefly sorts out the road of corporate culture construction at China Railway Fourth Bureau Group and finds that the unique culture of China Railway Fourth Bureau is different from other enterprises based on existing literature and data. The general summary is divided into four levels: material layer, system layer, spiritual layer, and behaviour layer, and it analyses the reasons for its success, mainly reflected in strategy, humanism, behaviour, and diversity.In short, these are all key factors for a company's success. Firstly, it establishes enterprise plans and goals that run through the top and bottom. Secondly, it strengthens employee training to improve productivity. In addition, it identifies the core of the company's goals and comes straight to the point.

This article is an institutional study on the history of the ill-fated Wusong Railway, China's first operational railway. The nine-mile light railway was built by the British firm Jardine, Matheson & Co. without the Qing government's permission. After negotiations with British diplomats, the Qing government agreed to purchase the line but the reformist governor-general Shen Baozhen later ordered it to be removed to Taiwan. Unfortunately funds were never provided for the rebuilding work. This article argues that it was the Qing government's failure to raise funds for capital-intensive projects that led to the railway's final destruction.

Мета роботи. ВЕРХ-дослідження складу і вмісту агліконів флавоноїдів у сухому екстракті пагонів чорниці. Матеріали і методи. Сухий екстракт пагонів чорниці отримували методом дробної мацерації; екстрагент – етанол (70-50 %, об/об); екстракційне співвідношення сировина-екстрагент – 1:9-15, кратність екстрагування – 5, час одного екстрагування – 24 год. У дослідженні застосовували: роторний випарювач Laborota 4011 (Heidolph Instruments GmbH & Co. KG, Німеччина), сушильну шафу СП-100 (UOSLAB, Україна), аналітичну вагу Mettler Toledo XP205DR (Mettler Toledo, Швейцарія), ультразвукову баню Bandelin Sanorex digitec (BANDELIN electronic GmbH & Co. KG, Німеччина), рідинний хроматограф Agilent 1200 із детектором G1315D DAD Detector (“Agilent”, США), хроматографічну колонку Kromasil 100 C18 (0,125 м х 4,6 мм, 5 мкм, Supelko, США), стандарти агліконів (Sigma-Aldrich), хімічні реактиви аналітичної чистоти і розчинники для градієнтного елюювання (Sigma-Aldrich, Macron Fine Chemicals™). Результати та обговорення. Хроматографування проб сухих екстрактів пагонів чорниці після кислотного гідролізу дозволило ідентифікувати за часом утримування і ходом електронних спектрів поглинання три аглікони: мірицетин, кверцетин і кемпферол. При кількісному визначенні їхнього вмісту у трьох серіях екстракту знайдено: кверцетину – 0,647-0,724 %, мірицетину – 0,068-0,098 % і кемпферолу – 0,030-0,034 %. Отримані результати узгоджуються з даними літератури, а саме – домінування кверцетину і присутність мірицетину і кемпферолу або одного із них у незначних кількостях у стеблах, листі і плодах чорниці. Висновки. Агліконовий профіль флавоноїдів сухого екстракту пагонів чорниці представлений трьома сполуками – кверцетином, мірицетином і кемпферолом, вміст кверцетину є найвищим, а кемпферолу – найнижчим. Кількісне визначення вмісту агліконів (поокреме/сумарне) методом ВЕРХ запропоновано застосовувати як показник якості сухого екстракту пагонів чорниці.

Tamping operation is an important part of railway maintenance work. The porosity of railway ballast is an important maintenance quality evaluation index during tamping process. In this paper, based on the discrete characteristics of railway ballast, the discrete element analysis model of railway ballast is created using the discrete element method, numerical simulations are performed to study the evolution of porosity of railway ballast under sleeper during tamping process. This paper focuses on the influence of vibration frequency of tamping tines during tamping process; an optimal vibration frequency is obtained from the simulation and compared with the actual vibration frequency recommended by China Railway Large Maintenance Machinery Co., Ltd. Kunming, it is found that the two vibration frequency is consistent. This result verifies that the discrete element method is an effective method to study the evolution of porosity of railway ballast during tamping process.

Power quality and neutral section are two technical problems that hinder the development of electrified railway to high-speed and heavy railway. The co-phase power supply technology is one of the best ways to solve these two technical problems. At present, a V type connection traction transformer is widely used in a power frequency single-phase AC traction power supply system, especially in high-speed railway. In this paper, a new type of co-phase power supply system for electrified railway based on V type connection traction transformer is proposed. One single-phase winding in the V type connection traction transformer is used as main power supply channel, and three ports are used as compensation ports. Neutral section is no longer set with traction substation, and the train is continuously powered through. The independent single-phase Static Var Generators (SVGs) are used to compensate the three-phase imbalance caused by single-phase traction load. When necessary, the power factor can be improved at the same time. The principle, structure, control strategy, and capacity configuration of the technical scheme are analyzed in this paper, and the effectiveness of the scheme is verified by using the measured data of electrified railway. The advantage of this scheme lies in the universal applicability of the V type connection traction transformer, and the flexibility of the SVG device.

Ehrlichia canis, Anaplasma platys, and Babesia vogeli are frequently detected in the veterinary routine with varied pathogenesis that can lead to death, mainly in co-infections. Although canine hemotropic mycoplasmas are considered of low clinical importance, they have recently gained prominence in molecular research. The present study aimed to analyze two hospital populations of dogs, randomly selected from the year 2013 and 2015, from the municipalities of Toledo (n=68) and Cascavel (n=107). Direct examination of blood smears, serology, and PCR were used to detect the presence of E. canis, A. platys, B. vogeli and Mycoplasma sp. Direct blood smear examination was negative for the investigated agents in all samples. Serum immunochromatography (SensPERT ™, VetAll Laboratories, Korea) in 175 animals showed that only 4% (n = 7) had anti-E. canis antibodies, while 60% (n = 105) were positive for Anaplasma sp. All PCR samples were negative for E. canis, while 18.28% (n = 32) were positive for A. platys, 3.42% (n = 6) positive for Babesia vogeli, and 7.41% (n = 13) positive for Mycoplasma sp. The study revealed the presence of A. platys in Toledo and Cascavel by PCR, which accentuates the need to monitor vector populations and usual hosts and to evaluate the potential risk of infection in humans.

The “Railway Work, Life & Death” project explores accidents and ill-health amongst British and Irish railway workers from the late nineteenth century to 1939. Drawing from state, railway company and trade union records, the project is making details of the working lives and accidents of railway employees more easily accessible. This note describes the collaborative impetus behind the project, and the crowd-sourcing methodology used, including the importance of working with volunteers. It shows that focusing on individual cases, at scale, is extremely revealing about the nature of work and the dangers of one of the largest employers of its time. It aims to encourage others to engage with crowd-sourcing and co-creation, as well as to make use of the resources being produced.

Abstract In this paper, we deploy the public-safety network which is overlapped with 5th-gerneration (5G) commercial network. Note that 5G commercial networks is assumed to operate on 700 MHz frequency band to observe the effect on public-safety network. Our main focus is to evaluate the interference on public-safety user equipment (UEs) (which are distributed outside the tunnel) from the 5G base stations (gNBs) (which are deployed inside the tunnel). Considering the aforementioned scenario, we compare it with the coexisting scenario of public-safety, and railway networks. In second scenario, we deploy the railway eNBs without tunnel and evaluate the co-channel interference on public-safety UEs. Radio access network sharing is an important candidate to consider for coexisting next-generation wireless communication networks. For the coexisting LTE networks (public safety verses railway) and 5G commercial network, which are assumed to utilize the same spectrum, active radio access network sharing should be considered. In this chapter, we evaluate the co-channel interference on two types of scenarios, i.e., (i) coexisting public-safety and railway networks, (ii) coexisting public-safety and 5G commercial networks. Moreover, we compare these scenarios by considering the radio access network sharing and non-radio access network sharing by public-safety UEs to evaluate the co-channel interference. The system-level simulations are performed to evaluate the UE average throughput, UE received interference, and UE outage probability. By activating the radio access network sharing, some improvement in throughput, and reduction in interference and outage performances, can be achieved. Simulation results validates the effectiveness of radio access network sharing for coexisting public-safety networks and 5G commercial networks.

In the era of the dynamic development of rail transport caused by the implementation of many railway projects, some problems related to the implementation of railway investments are beginning to be noticed, which refer to obtaining a permit for placing in service of structural subsystems. Most of the investments are co-financed from EU funds, and their main goal is to increase speed on railway lines with the same or improved safety level. In addition to the modernization of railway lines with accompanying infrastructure, devices and power grids or railway traffic control devices, railway lines are equipped with trackside ERTMS / ETCS systems. All modernized railway lines are subject to a certification process following European and national law. Concerning lines equipped with ERTMS / ETCS systems, which have already been certified and accepted to operation, some actions are taken to improve the operational performance of the railway infrastructure. For this reason, it is necessary to assess the impact of investments on ERTMS / ETCS systems already installed, which have a valid EC verification certificate and have received or expect an authorization for placing in service issued by the Office of Rail Transport.

Contamination of the soil and water environment with harmful substances can be associated with many activities carried out on the railway. The problem is particularly relevant to liquid fuel loading and refueling facilities as well as to increased traffic at railway junctions. Studies were conducted in the area of railway junction Zduńska Wola Karsznice in central Poland (Łódź Voivodeship). Soil samples were collected from specific research points: from the inter-railway (A), 5 m from the main track (B), from the embankment—10 m from the main track (C), and from the side track (D), at the depth of 0–5 cm (1) and 20 cm (2). The following analyses were made: granulometric composition, pH in H2O, and percent content of carbonates (CaCO3). PHEs were determined in the fractions: 0.25 ≤ 0.5 mm, 0.1 ≤ 0.25 mm, and 0.05 ≤ 0.1 mm: Pb, Cd, Cr, Co, Cu, Ni, Zn, Sr by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry technique (ICP-MS/TOF OPTIMass 9500). The objectives of the study were (1) to assess PHEs (potentially harmful elements) contamination of the topsoil level of railway area, (2) to determine the correlation between the concentration of PHEs and the size of the fraction, and (3) to identify the areas (places) where the highest concentrations of PHEs were recorded. Based on the studied parameters, significant differentiation in soil properties of the areas in Zduńska Wola Karsznice was found. The analyses carried out showed that the accumulation of potentially harmful elements was as follows: Cu > Zn > Sr > Pb > Ni > Cr > Co > Cd. The average concentrations of Cu, Zn, Sr, Pb, Ni, Cr, Co and Cd were 216.0; 152.1; 97.8; 64.6; 15.2; 14.4; 3.1 and 0.2 mg·kg−1 d.w., respectively. These contaminations occur in the topsoil layer of the railway embankment, which suggests a railway transport origin. The highest concentrations of PHEs were recorded in samples collected from close to the rails (inter-railway, side track), and in the embankment (10 m from the track) in the very fine sand fraction (0.05 ≤ 0.1 mm). The high accumulation index of copper, cadmium and lead in the surface layer of soil indicate their anthropogenic origin. The results presented in the paper can be used in local planning and spatial development of this area, taking into account all future decisions about ensuring environmental protection, including groundwater and soils.

Transport infrastructure makes important contribution to economic growth. At the same time, the economic growth provides support to the transport infrastructure. Based on the co-integration theory and Granger casualty analysis, using time series data in Tianjin from 1978 to 2010, empirically analyze the co-integration relationship and Granger causality between the index of all kinds of transport infrastructure and the GDP in Tianjin. Research shows that there are positive correlations between the length of road, railway, quay line and GDP. The length of road, railway and quay line is the Granger cause of GDP. However, GDP is not the Granger cause of transport infrastructure.

In the near future, there will be a greater emphasis on sharing network resources between roads and railways to improve transportation efficiency and reduce infrastructure costs. This could enable the development of global Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITSs). In this paper, a software-defined networking (SDN)-based common emergency service is developed and validated for a railway and road telecommunication shared infrastructure. Along with this, the developed application is capable of reducing the chances of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) situations. A level-crossing scenario is considered to demonstrate the developed solution where railway tracks are perpendicular to the roads. Two cases are considered to validate and analyze the developed SDN application for common emergency scenarios. In case 1, no cross-communication is available between the road and railway domains. In this case, emergency message distribution is carried out by the assigned emergency servers with the help of the SDN controller. In case 2, nodes (cars and trains) are defined with two wireless interfaces, and one interface is reserved for emergency data communication. To add the DDoS resiliency to the developed system the messaging behavior of each node is observed and if an abnormality is detected, packets are dropped to avoid malicious activity.

Вступ. Флавоноїди шовковиці білої представлені різними глікозидами, що ускладнює стандартизацію за їх вмістом як сировини, так і її екстрактів. Зважаючи на різноманітність глікозидних форм флавоноїдів, присутність інших речовин фенольної природи, які за аналітико-функціональними властивостями подібні до флавоноїдів, спектрофотометричне визначення останніх є утрудненим. Мета дослідження – вивчити склад і вміст агліконів флавоноїдів у сухому екстракті листя шовковиці білої. Методи дослідження. Сухий екстракт листя шовковиці білої отримували із сировини вітчизняного походження методом дробної мацерації; екстрагент – етанол (80–60 %, об/об); екстракційне співвідношення сировина:екстрагент – 1:9–15, кратність екстрагування – 5, час одного екстрагування – 24 год. У дослідженні застосовували: роторний випарювач Laborota 4011 (Heidolph Instruments GmbH & Co. KG, Німеччина), сушильну шафу СП-100 (UOSLAB, Україна), аналітичну вагу Mettler Toledo XP205DR (Mettler Toledo, Швейцарія), ультразвукову баню Bandelin Sanorex digitec (BANDELIN electronic GmbH & Co. KG, Німеччина), рідинний хроматограф Agilent 1200 із детектором G1315D DAD Detector (“Agilent”, США), хроматографічну колонку Kromasil 100 C18 (0,125 м × 4,6 мм, 5 мкм, Supelko, США), стандарти агліконів (Sigma-Aldrich), хімічні реактиви аналітичної чистоти і розчинники для градієнтного елюювання (Sigma-Aldrich, Macron Fine Chemicals™). Результати й обговорення. Аглікони флавоноїдів отримували шляхом кислотного гідролізу наважки сухого екстракту впродовж 2 год. Одержані аглікони вилучали шляхом вичерпної екстракції етилацетатом; відганяли розчинник, а сухий залишок, який містив досліджувані аглікони, розчиняли в метанолі, готуючи випробовувані розчини для ВЕРХ-вивчення. На хроматограмах випробовуваних розчинів спостерігали появу низки піків, три з яких відповідали мірицетину, кверцетину і кемпферолу. Отже, флавоноїди сухого екстракту листя шовковиці білої представлені глікозидами вказаних трьох флавонолів. Дані щодо наявності кверцетину і кемпферолу збігаються з даними досліджень інших авторів. Висновки. Досліджено склад агліконів флавоноїдів сухого екстракту листя шовковиці білої. Встановлено, що вони представлені флавонолами: кверцетином, кемпферолом і мірицетином. Знайдено 0,20 % кверцетину, 0,14 % кемпферолу і слідові кількості мірицетину – 0,003 %. Отримані дані можна використати для розроблення методики стандартизації сухого екстракту листя шовковиці білої за показником “Кількісне визначення”.

Abstract The electrified railway has power quality problems such as three phases seriously unbalanced, large harmonics, and reactive power. In addition, the neutral section exists at each power supply section, which restricts the development of the high-speed and heavy-haul railway. This paper proposes a novel co-phase traction power supply system (TPSS) based on a YNvd balanced transformer, which can not only solve the above problems but also save one single-phase coupling step-down transformer, thus reducing the cost and space of the whole system. In addition, the voltage level of the converter switching device can be reduced by the rational design of the transformer tap position, which enhances the reliability and feasibility of the system. The compensation principle and control strategy of the co-phase TPSS based on the novel YNvd balanced transformer are analyzed in detail in this paper, and the compensation current detection and integrated power flow controller (IPFC) control methods are given. Simulation and analysis show that the proposed topology structure and control method are correct and feasible.

Innovative digital twins (DTs) that allow engineers to visualise, share information, and monitor the condition during operation is necessary to optimise railway construction and maintenance. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is an approach for creating and managing an inventive 3D model simulating digital information that is useful to project management, monitoring and operation of a specific asset during the whole life cycle assessment (LCA). BIM application can help to provide an efficient cost management and time schedule and reduce the project delivery time throughout the whole life cycle of the project. In this study, an innovative DT has been developed using BIM integration through a life cycle analysis. Minnamurra Railway Bridge (MRB), Australia, has been chosen as a real-world use case to demonstrate the extended application of BIM (i.e., the DT) to enhance the operation, maintenance and asset management to improve the sustainability and resilience of the railway bridge. Moreover, the DT has been exploited to determine GHG emissions and cost consumption through the integration of BIM. This study demonstrates the feasibility of DT technology for railway maintenance and resilience optimisation. It also generates a virtual collaboration for co-simulations and co-creation of values across stakeholders participating in construction, operation and maintenance, and enhancing a reduction in costs and GHG emission.

Traditional carrying equipment that is being still used in polish railway system for dozens of years is based on typical steel profiles with low mechanical strength, low corrosion resistance and also with poor assembly and adjustment possibilities. Major part of other overhead railway equipment like support constructions, trolley wires and current carrying equipment is now modernized leaving the carrying system one of the lasts that needs to be redesigned and optimized to meet nowadays requirements for high speeds of railway travel. For that direct reason a project was started to conduct research works on design and development of the new type of railway overhead carrying equipment with enhanced exploitation properties. Within this articles authors presented a complete set of research results including designing of first concepts, FEM simulation and experimental research results including tests on final geometries in actual railway traffic. Performed studies and design works allowed to obtain an innovative overhead railway carrying system which is based on 6082 aluminum alloy and new geometry of used profiles and connection system. Research results conducted and presented within article are a part of the project co-founded by The National Centre for Research and Development.

In the application of detached object recognition in public places like railway terminals, the recognition of the co-located objects in the video is a more vital process. Nevertheless, owing to the occurrence of multiple co-located object instances, the analysis of the status of the co-located object in the video is a challenging process. Hence, for solving this issue, this paper proposes the Min-Max Distance based K-Means (MMD-K-Means)-centric co-located object recognition with object status identification. Primarily, the input video from the railway is converted to frames. Subsequently, it was improved using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE). Next, Tukey’s Bi-weight Correlation-based Byte Tacking (TBC-BT) and MMD-K-Means clustering are done for the detection and tracking of moving and non-moving objects. Subsequently, the Cyclic Neighbor-based Connected Component Analysis (CN-CCA) process was done from the static and moving object-detected frames for the main and co-located object labeling. Next, it executed the patch extraction for the separate analysis of each instance. At last, the Maxout-based Gated Recurrent Unit (Max-GRU) determined the object status in CN-CCA processed frame with the estimated distance between objects and extracted features from the static objects. The proposed system was then experimentally examined and validated in contrast to the standard methods. The proposed MMD-K-Means achieved a co-located object identification rate of 97.92% in 1184 milliseconds. Next, the Max-GRU achieved 98.13% identification accuracy, and it also achieved excellent results for other performance parameters. The proposed system’s performance is experimentally proved with several performance metrics.

The United States relies on carceralism—mass incarceration and institutionalization, surveillance and control—for its continued operation. The criminalization of difference, particularly in relation to race, disability and queerness, renders certain people as perpetually subject to state violence due to their perceived unruliness. This article relies on two case studies, in Toledo, Ohio and Brooklyn, New York to question the construction and co-optation of vulnerability by state agents and focus on interrelated instances of state violence done under the guise of protectionism of and from unruly subjects. We then discuss the response to these instances of violence- from the state in the form of carceral ableism and sanism, and from local activists trying to navigate the shifting contours of protectionist violence by enacting queer transformative justice.

The purpose of this article is to contribute the conceptual knowledge of the railway policy issue in Mongolia. The paper presented an overview of the current transport situation of Mongolian Railway. It analyzes the statistical indicators of freight and passenger traffic as well as capability analysis of the railway transport. Moreover, it highlights its further development prospects and its importance for country’s economic. In last but not least, it formulates the future prospects of sustainable development of railway sector.Findings of this research are: a) by analyzing statistic data the high correlation (R=0.87) between GDP and freight transportation of Mongolia has been confirmed. The type of cargo analyzed and the economically efficient type of cargo within Mongolia has been highlighted. b) The GDP and passenger turnover has a very weak relationship. c) In the regional context, Mongolia’s transport statistics main indexes performance somewhat in the middle and there has room to increase the freight operation in the future.The research method is based on the analysis of strategic documents, secondary data, including statistical data obtained from the Central Statistical Office in Mongolia, Statistical Office in UBTZ (Ulaanbaatar Railway Mongolian-Russian Joint-stock Company), OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) official site, International Union of Railway (UIC) official site and World Bank official site.

The geological setting of Sichuan-Tibet Railway is complicated, while magmatic and metamorphic rocks are widely distributed. Reference to the other engineering experience of underground works under similar geological conditions at home and abroad, the analysis shows that it exists the hazardous possibility that the inorganic gas are toxic and harmful in the tunnels of Sichuan-Tibet Railway. Combining the conditions that inorganic gas produced and the geological conditions along the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, it analyzes and predicates that CH4, CO2, H2S, SO2, CO, NO2, NH3 and H2 are the main types of poisonous gas along the Sichuan-Tibet Railway. The poisonous gas is mainly distributed in the three suture zones, three crustal fault zones and more than three basement fault zones and mafic and ultrabasic rock zone, granites zone, volcanic zone and contact metamorphic zone. All these zones are the favorable migration point to area and gathering area to the toxic and harmful gas. It should be highly mentioned on the construction of the tunnels.

Se realiza un estudio de suelos en el término municipal de Villanueva de Alcardete (Toledo, España) con la finalidad de señalar zonas homogéneas para el cultivo del viñedo. Se practicaron 15 calicatas en lugares representativos y se realizaron análisis físico químicos y clasificaciones edafológicas. También se consultaron fuentes clásicas de información pero se apunta como novedosa herramienta para la zonificación la composición geoquímica de los suelos. Se determinaron para cada perfil 11 elementos mayoritarios (Al, Ca, Fe, K, Na, Mg, Mn, P, S, Si, Ti) y 27 elementos traza (As, Ba, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Cu, Ga, Hf, La, Mo, Nb, Nd, Ni, Pb, Rb, Sc, Sn, Sr, Ta, Th, U, V, W, Y, Zn, Zr). Una vez estudiadas las fuentes de información y los datos obtenidos, el mapa de distribución del Estroncio (Sr) representa bastante bien las distintas zonas de suelos del área estudiada y puede ser utilizado (con las debidas comprobaciones y correcciones) para establecer lotes de suelos homogéneos.

As a dedicated digital mobile communication system designed for railway application, GSM-R must provide reliable bidirectional channel for transmitting security data between trackside equipments and on-train computer on high-speed railways. To ensure the safety of running trains, redundant network architecture is commonly used to guarantee the reliability of GSM-R. Because of the rigid demands of railway security, it is important to build reliability mathematical models, predict the network reliability and select a suitable one. Two common GSM-R wireless architectures, co-sited double layers network and intercross single layer network, are modeled and contrasted in this paper. By calculating the reliabilities of each reliable model, it is clear that more redundant the architecture is, more reliable the system will be, the whole system will bear a less failure time per year as the benefit. Meanwhile, as the redundancy of GSM-R system raises, its equipment and maintenance will cost much, but the reliability raise gently. From the standpoint of transmission system interruption and network equipment failure, the reliability of co-sited double layer network architecture is higher than the intercross single layer one, while the viability and cost of the intercross redundant network is better than co-sited one in natural disasters such as flood and lightning. Taking fully into account reliability, viability and cost, we suggest that intercross redundant network should be chosen on high-speed railway.

Railway track maintenance plays an important role in enabling safe, reliable, and seamless train operations and passenger comfort. Due to the increasing rail transportation, rolling stocks tend to run faster and the load tends to increase continuously. As a result, the track deteriorates quicker, and maintenance needs to be performed more frequently. However, more frequent maintenance activities do not guarantee a better overall performance of the railway system. It is crucial for rail infrastructure managers to optimize predictive and preventative maintenance. This study is the world’s first to develop deep machine learning models using three-dimensional recurrent neural network-based co-simulation models to predict track geometry parameters in the next year. Different recurrent neural network-based techniques are used to develop predictive models. In addition, a building information modeling (BIM) model is developed to integrate and cross-functionally co-simulate the track geometry measurement with the prediction for predictive and preventative maintenance purposes. From the study, the developed BIM models can be used to exchange information for predictive maintenance. Machine learning models provide the average R2 of 0.95 and the average mean absolute error of 0.56 mm. The insightful breakthrough demonstrates the potential of machine learning and BIM for predictive maintenance, which can promote the safety and cost effectiveness of railway maintenance.

In recent years, with the gradual networking of high-speed railways in China, the existing railway transportation capacity has been released. In order to improve transportation capacity, railway freight transportation enterprises companies have gradually shifted the transportation of goods from dedicated freight lines to passenger-cargo lines. In terms of the organization form of collection and distribution, China has a complete research system for heavy-haul railway collection and distribution, but the research on the integration of collection and distribution of the ordinary-speed railway freight has not been completed. This paper combines the theories of the integration of collection and distribution theory, coordination theory, and coupling theory and incorporates the machine learning fuzzy mathematics to construct an “Entropy-TOPSIS Coupling Development Degree Model” for dynamic intelligent quantitative analysis of the synergy of railway freight collection and distribution systems. Finally, we take the Tongchuan Depot of “China Railway Xi’an Group Co., Ltd.” as a research object to construct a target system and use the intelligent information acquisition system to collect basic data. The analysis results show that through the coordinated control of the freight collection and distribution system, the coordination between the subsystems of the integrated freight collection and distribution system is increased by 5.94%, which verifies the feasibility of the model in the quantitative improvement of the integration of collection and distribution system. It provides a new method for the research of integrated development of railway freight collection and distribution.

W ostatnich latach nastąpił znaczny wzrost liczby ludności na świecie, a tym samym wzrost zapotrzebowania na transport. Aby sprostać temu zapotrzebowaniu, konieczny jest zrównoważony rozwój sektora transportu, tak aby nie zwiększać zanieczyszczenia środowiska. Wymagania co do ograniczeń emisji związków toksycznych wymuszają wprowadzanie zmian konstrukcyjnych w silnikach pojazdów, stosowanie nowoczesnych i skutecznych układów oczyszczania spalin silnika oraz poprawę sposobu użytkowania pojazdów. Redukcję emisji zanieczyszczeń i zużycia paliwa można osiągnąć także poprzez wykorzystanie paliw alternatywnych, w tym gazowych, jak również ich współspalanie z paliwami konwencjonalnymi. W artykule przedstawiono przede wszystkim wyniki badań toksyczności spalin z pojazdu kolejowego, zasilanego paliwem B100 (tzw. biodiesel). Wykazano różnice w stężeniach toksycznych związków w układzie wylotowym silnika.

This paper discusses the optimization of emergency resource scheduling for major railway emergencies under multiple uncertainties while considering the uncertainties in demand, reserve, and transportation costs of resources. We introduce a novel approach that integrates stochastic mathematical programming, interval parameter programming, and fuzzy mathematical programming to study uncertain parameter interactions and coupling. A two-stage interval fuzzy credibility-constrained model is established and solved using an interval interactive algorithm. Finally, through a case study on China Railway Nanchang Group Co., Ltd., the novelty and effectiveness of the proposed method for optimizing emergency resource scheduling strategies under multiple uncertainties are demonstrated.

Smoke control for the underground platform of a high-speed railway station was investigated. Nowadays, the development of high-speed railway in China is rapid. In order to economize valuable urban space and to realize the convenient interchange to the subway, some of the high-speed railway station platforms and transfer halls are set underground. It is difficult and uneconomic to achieve static ventilation in the underground platform. Therefore, The mechanical smoke control system is the most feasible and most reliable method to ensure the fire safety of the underground platform. How to protect the evacuation stairs free from the threat of fire-induced smoke is a major concern of smoke control in the underground platform. An underground island platform and underground waiting and transfer halls of an under construct high-speed railway station in south China are reconstructed in this paper. Three smoke control modes based on mechanical ventilation, namely mechanical air makeup, pressurized air supply for stairwell and air curtain, are numerically simulated by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method. The distribution of smoke, temperature, and CO in the platform and influences of them on evacuation staircases are computed and analyzed. The effect of fire location in smoke spread are explored in our research. This study based on CFD modeling enables the improvement of the design and operation of smoke control and exhaust system for underground high-speed railway station. The results are applicable to practical fire engineering designs for underground high-speed railway station platform.

Abstract A Co – Cr –Mo laser cladding applied on railway wheels is characterised by a combination of EBSD and EDX. A complete pass of the cladding is investigated to achieve a better understanding of the microstructure evolution during laser cladding. A microstructure with columnar grains extending over the whole thickness of the cladding is observed. The grains have a <001>-fibre texture with the fibre axis parallel to the normal of the substrate surface, and a substructure consisting of cells/dendrites. During the cladding process, two different kinds of precipitates form in the cell walls, which can be identified as M6C and a non-equilibrium phase. Furthermore, stacking faults are observed to occur in the cladding grains and are discussed with respect to the laser cladding process.

Resumen
With the widespread use and rapid development of electric locomotives, the negative sequence and excessive phase problems of traction networks have become increasingly prominent. A hybrid railway power conditioner system (H-RPC) for co-phase was proposed, And compared with the traditional RPC system. The paper analyzed its topology and compensation principle. The design of its key parameters was given. The analysis results show that H-RPC has better compensation effect than RPC. Finally, the correctness of the H-RPC compensation effect is verified by simulation.

Abstract Introduction: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Double Hit Lymphomas (DHL) and Double Expresser Lymphomas (DEL) are high grade B-cell lymphomas (HGBLs) that have high MYC and BCL2 dependency. DHL harbor translocations of MYC and BCL2 (or BCL6 less frequently), which lead to increased cell growth and survival. Standard R-CHOP therapy is inadequate and results in poor patient outcomes. Novel targeted agents, which inhibit MYC and BCL2 are currently under investigation; however, there is no established standard-of-care for these highly aggressive lymphomas. Menin is a scaffold protein that is essential for cancers driven by oncogenic MLL-fusions, such as in acute leukemias. At present, the role of menin in DLBCL is not well described. A recent study demonstrated that MYC and menin co-localize on chromatin, leading to menin-mediated enhancement of MYC target gene expression in cancer cells. However, the relationship between menin and MYC and the direct effect of menin inhibition on MYC in liquid tumors has not been examined. Here, we demonstrate the ability of BMF-219, a novel, selective, orally bioavailable, irreversible inhibitor of menin, to modulate MYC expression in leukemia cells as the basis for exploring activity of the molecule in DLBCL cells. Methods: MOLM-13 cells incubated with BMF-219 for 6 and 24 hours at 0.5 μM and 1 μM were analyzed by RNA-seq on the Illumina NextSeq 550 platform. Differentially expressed genes were identified through DeSeq2 negative binomial model analysis. Transcription factor activity inference of differentially expressed genes was calculated using a published statistical framework and algorithm. DLBCL DHL cell lines, DB and Toledo, were treated with BMF-219 as monotherapy, and in combination with ABT-199, at a concentration range of 0.01 μM to 3 μM for a 4-day duration. Cell viability was measured using CellTiter Glo and IC 50 values were calculated. Results: RNA-seq analysis of MOLM-13 cells treated with BMF-219 showed a marked reduction of MYC transcript levels by ~25-fold at 6 hours of treatment at both concentrations tested, and ~110-fold and ~220-fold at 0.5 μM and 1 μM BMF-219 treatment, respectively, at 24 hours. Additionally, MYC and its co-factor, MAX, emerged as top candidates in transcription factor activity inference analysis based on ChIP-seq GEO repository datasets and differential expression of MOLM-13 cells treated with BMF-219 at 24 hours. These results prompted an examination of the effects of BMF-219 on lymphoid malignancies known to be highly dependent on MYC aberrations. Single-agent BMF-219 reduced &gt;90% of cell viability in both DB and Toledo cells, at 1.0 μM and 0.36 μM, respectively. The IC 50 values of BMF-219 were calculated as 0.32 μM and 0.29 μM for DB and Toledo, respectively. Two reversible menin inhibitors tested were less effective in reducing growth of DHL cell lines. One reversible menin inhibitor exhibited IC 50 values of 3 μM and 1.5 μM in DB and Toledo, respectively, while neither cell line was sensitive to the other reversible compound. Given that a 20-fold reduction in BCL2 transcript occurred in MOLM-13 cells at 24 hours of 0.5 μM BMF-219 exposure, we investigated whether a combination of BCL2 inhibitor, ABT-199, with BMF-219 could further reduce cell viability of DHL cells. ABT-199 as a single agent reduced viability of Toledo cells, but not DB cells, at 0.33 μM. By contrast, the combination of BMF-219 and ABT-199 synergistically killed both DB and Toledo cells. Combination treatment using both inhibitors at 0.33 μM killed &gt;80% of DB cells and 100% of Toledo cells. These results demonstrate that DLBCL DHL cells are sensitive to menin inhibition. Of note, initial data has indicated that multiple myeloma cells also manifest responses to BMF-219 similar to DHL DLBCL. Conclusions: Collectively, our study demonstrates the unique ability of BMF-219's irreversible menin inhibition, which leads to marked killing of DHL cells. BMF-219, as a single agent, substantially reduces MYC and BCL2 gene expression in liquid tumor cells, providing a molecular basis for targeting DLBCL and other tumors with these aberrations. Additionally, BMF-219 offers single agent as well as treatment synergy when combined with ABT-199 in DHL cells. These data serve as initial pre-clinical evidence for employing irreversible menin inhibition as a promising therapeutic strategy in DHL DLBCL. The Organisation for Co-Operation between Railways (OSJD) is an international organisation established on the basis of the “Provisions on the Organisation for Cooperation between Railways” international agreement. The year 2021 is significant for the OSJD since the Organisation celebrates 65 years of its existence. The past years were a period of constant development of the OSJD, full of important events and changes, both within the Organisation itself and in the economic and geopolitical situation of the regions in which it functions. The OSJD has always been focused on the development and improvement of railway transport in Eurasia through the development and improvement of transport corridors and the harmonization of transport law. It is one of the major organisations in the railway sector, actively operating and cooperating with other important international organisations functioning in the railway transport sector, such as the International Union of Railways (UIC), the International Rail Transport Committee (CIT), and the Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF), whose task is to promote, cooperate, develop, improve, and facilitate international railway transport as a means of transport that could meet the challenges in terms of mobility and sustainable transport. As part of this cooperation, the OSJD is focused on the constant improvement of railway transport through the simplification of border procedures and the harmonisation of transport documents, which is exemplified by the common CIM/SMGS consignment note. The purpose of this article is to outline the main tasks and roles of the Organisation in the development of railway transport in Eurasia in recent years. The article presents the assumptions of a modern management model of railway stations. In this model, the station is perceived as part of a multimodal hub which includes, besides the building used for passenger’ check-in, also railway platforms, access routes and surrounding infrastructure in the form of public transport stops and parking lots and other facilities. The authors point to the necessity of constructing interchange nodes integrating the station with the urban tissue. The article discusses the issue of categorizing stations and standardizing services at railway stations to best meet the needs of users. The authors point out that innovative solutions are the key condition for improving the quality of stations. The station design process should be linked to the current review and the search for innovations in the field of materials, energy, ICT, architecture and passenger services. An interesting direction for the development of railway stations are services related to the sharing economy, such as co-working, car-sharing and bike-sharing. The article also presents the concept of creating an integrated entity managing the passenger station area, a model of solutions in other European countries.

AbstractAs infrastructure development has become a key ingredient in Africa–China relations, the role of African governments in co-determining the design, funding and governance of the continent's infrastructures has come under close scrutiny. This article sheds light on the rehabilitation of a symbol of Sino–African friendship: the Tanzania–Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA). Employing Jessop's strategic-relational approach, it is shown that the strategies of the shareholding governments in the negotiations with a Chinese consortium were informed by strategic learning from previous railway privatisations, corresponding cost–benefit analyses and reflection about Chinese commercial interests. Zambia's indebtedness and Tanzania's autocratic developmental state under President Magufuli formed crucial elements of the structural context in which the fate of Africa's Freedom Railway was negotiated. The article transcends both crudely structuralist accounts of a supposedly all-powerful China and voluntarist conceptions of African agency that are void of structure. Assessing (African) agency requires analytical sensitivity towards the dialectical interaction between specific strategic capacities and strategically selective political–economic contexts.
