Resumen
This paper deals with the structure, activity, and liquidation of the Danube-Sava Vicinal Railway Stock Company during the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes/Yugoslavia. The company, founded in 1912, was based in Budapest and constructed the following railway lines: Vukovar-Ilača and Šid-Sremska Rača-Sava. These private railway lines were exploited by the state. The stock company was solvent. After the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the company’s headquarters moved from Budapest to Zagreb. Shortly after the establishment of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovens/Yugoslavia, the railway lines were exploited by the Directorate of State Railways in Zagreb, but after 1921 they came under the jurisdiction of the Directorate of State Railways in Belgrade. According to the Agreement of February 7, 1931, the state redeemed the railway lines of the abovementioned company and thus the company ceased to exist. The company went into liquidation in 1932 and was shut down on April 12, 1933.

Resumen
This study examines the Nederlandsch-Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij (NISM) Company in 1863-1873 which was founded in Semarang. Transportation in the Dutch East Indies before 1863, especially the Semarang Residency area, still used simple transportation to deliver goods and people. The main issues studied in this article are the development of the NISM Company from its construction to the completion of the railway line, and the impact of the railway operation on the government and society. The transportation company first used an engine-powered train by making the Semarang Residency the starting point for the railway line as well as the main office of the NISM Company. The research method used as a form of historical study is the historical method. The results of the study explained that the establishment of the NISM Company in the Residency of Semarang was due to the need for a mode of transportation to transport Cultivation products from the interior to the port. Resumen
This research examined the impact and challenges of globalization on railway transport sector in Africa. The study employed two railway companies as sample, state-owned railway company and private owned company. Using questionnaire as research instruments, data were collected and analyzed with simple percentages and non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis statistical tools. The major findings of the study were that: (a) the problem of competition and poor technology are the greatest challenges; (b) Railway companies with fewer globalization challenges perform significantly much better than those with more challenges; (c) Managers with positive attitude toward globalization perform significantly better than those with negative attitude and; (d) Railway state-owned receives government’s support but not enough to warrant its competitiveness. The study concluded that for railway sector to continue surviving in this globalization era, governments must immediately step up and render support to railway transport sector as opposed to only supporting road sector.

Organisation is a significant segment of every enterprise, and so is the case with companies providing railway freight transport services. The success of a company depends on the organisational structure that makes it much easier to conduct business owing to the clearly defined hierarchy and responsibilities that lead to the ultimate goal – freight transport. This paper defines and describes railway freight transport, as well as the impact of freight transport market liberalisation on the sole organisation of a company. Moreover, various organisational schemes are analysed along with their potential benefits for the railway transport. The organisation of HŽ Cargo Ltd. is shown together with an outline of business activities of certain organisational units of the company.

Social media utilizing the internet is increasingly needed in everyday life, socialization activities, transportation, education, business, and others. One of the most used social media is Instagram. Indonesian Railway Company also uses Instagram to convey information to the public and enhance the company's image. However, conveying messages from the Indonesian Railway Company to the public is often hampered by several problems, one of which is the long response to answering public questions. Because of this phenomenon, this study aims to find out how the @keretaapikita governance process managed by the Indonesian Railway Company is to improve information services and to find out the obstacles in its management. This research uses a qualitative approach based on case studies. The data collection technique of this research is; in-depth interviews, literature studies, book documentation, literature, documents, archives, journals, and the internet. The data-checking technique uses triangulation (source & method). The results of this study found that the governance process of @keretaapikita at the Indonesian Railway Company (applying the PDCA (Plan, Do, Check and Action) approach by Dr. Edward Deming, a quality expert from the United States.

Resumen
After the end of World War II, Yugoslavia and Albania continued the cooperation that had been established during the war. The economic cooperation between the two countries began after the signing of the Friendship and Assistance Agreement in mid-1946. Part of the cooperation were joint ventures between the two countries and one of them was a railway company. The first Albanian railway, Drač-Elbasan, represented the result of Yugoslav-Albanian reconciliation. Its construction began in early 1947 and completed in November the same year. A plan for the Drač-Tirana railway also existed and was to be implemented as a joint project, but due to the crisis of the relations between the two countries, it never materialised. Yugoslavia and Albania discontinued their cooperation after Albania’s acceptance of the Informbureau Resolution in mid-1948.

Debrecen’s marshalling yard and railway facilities were dealt with an over whelming air raid by the US Air Force on 2 June 1944. As the result of the attack, the town also sustained major damage. However, out of the keyparts of the industrial and transport infrastructure, only Debrecen’s transport company sustained irreparable damage. In my study, with the help of archive resources, I represent the lines and sites of the Debrecen Local Railway and the Debrecen Nyírbátor Railway Public Limited Company, the catastrophic bombing damage of 2 June 1944, the aftermath of the bombing, and the steps take into restart transport.

The South Korean government has established guidelines for railway capacity allocation. Railway transport services are provided by a monopoly company, which together with the guidelines, has hampered research into railway capacity allocation in South Korea. Recently, a new high-speed railway company has been established. Therefore, there is a pressing need for a fair and objective railway capacity allocation procedure. A model was developed to be applicable to South Korean high-speed railway capacity allocation, which is optimized by viewing the railway network as a location–time network. Because railway capacity allocation in South Korea is an administered process, various requirements must be followed; the model uses a genetic algorithm for such requirements. Two test scenarios were used to validate the proposed model, the solution to which resolves more than 70% of conflicts within 20 iterations (148 min). When an attempt is made to schedule infeasible trains compulsively, it is impossible to do so without relaxing one or more constraints. The average headway among real operating trains is very close to the results of the analysis. The proposed model with a genetic algorithm is a rational solution.

This article explores the shifting relationship between the state and the rural elites in Sichuan during the last decades of the Qing dynasty through the lens of taxation and public debt by using a creditor-debtor model as a theoretical framework. Sichuan’s unique rewarded land tax surcharge, called the “Contribution” and levied since 1864, established a relationship of symbolic and economic indebtedness of the imperial and local state to the taxpayer. Western-inspired reforms after 1898 directly attacked the symbolic and economic bonds established by the Contribution. The Railway Rent Share tax shifted the creditor-debtor relationship from the state to the public Sichuan-Hankou Railway Company by making individual taxpayers into shareholders. When Beijing eventually banned what it saw as a privatization of taxation and decided to nationalize the railway company, this ignited the Railway Protection Movement, which precipitated the 1911 Revolution in Sichuan.

Abstract Railway towns, in their essence, are a specific evolution of the system of company towns, which disseminated during the 19th and 20th centuries. These company towns were characterised by communities of workers employed by the same company or group of companies, which owned the houses and infrastructures and exerted some sort of control over the town’s economic and social living. The model of a garden-city, under which most of the examples studied were developed, was the most common, although not the only one. Despite the relevance of these processes, there are no papers that analyse them in a global perspective and in the long run, but only studies that focus on particular cases with barely any contextualisation. Lest we forget that railway towns grew in tandem with the rail networks all over the world, from the most industrialised and populated areas to the new regions targeted for colonisation. In order to overcome this set of isolated reports of individual railway towns, in this paper, I group the most significant references and studies about railway towns created by different companies in different countries to propose a broader interpretation of the overall phenomenon. Amidst the features intended to be analysed, I highlight the origin and nature of these towns, their forms and urban structures, the most notable case studies, and their future as industrial heritage (questioning the reasons for the current status of the towns, some devoid of their railway functions, others with a lesser presence of the railway, and others almost depopulated).

At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Tsarist Russia built a wide-gauge railway that crossed northeast China. The Railway in Eastern province of China, its arteries start from Manzhouli in the west, passes through Harbin in the middle and reaches Suifenhe in the east, and it is connected with the Russian Rear Baikal Railway and the South Wusuli Railway in the end. Later, Russia obtained the right to build the southern line of the railway through the Renewal Contract, thus forming the trend of connecting Europe and Asia. After the opening of the railway, Northeast China was forced to open passively in the shock of the steam-powered locomotive in which capitalism was established. Although the Railway in Eastern province of China has the legal basis of the Contract of Jointly running Eastern Province Railway Company, there are various unequal treaties in political, economic, military, social, cultural and other fields derived from it, all at the expense of China’s interests. In fact, it was the Russian who took the lead in the struggle for the interests of the world capitalist powers in our northeast. Starting with the Contract for the Joint operation of Eastern Province Railway Company, the Russians are able to misinterpret it arbitrarily. If they cannot explain it, they will show their strength by actual control, or regain their interests under various names such as “renewal” and “supplement”. This fully reflects that many texts on Sino-Russian relations around the railway in Eastern province of China basically follow the “law of the jungle”.

The article considers the problem of planning the optimal loading of freight trains on a limited railway network – the network of a mining company. Two variants are illustrated. In the first variant only one type of locomotives operates on the railway network. In the second variant there are different types of locomotives. The types of lo-comotives are determined by their carrying capacity. The algorithm of scheduling multiple locomotives in a network is a combination of solutions for particular scheduling problems for each locomotive subject to the restrictions on their joint movement. Structurally, the set of possible locomotive schedules is a set of system states at discrete points in time. The state at each moment of time describes the location of each locomotive at a particular station and the amount of cargo transported. Thus, two consecutive states unambiguously determine the routes of locomotives. To describe a complete picture of all possible states and the sequence of their transitions from one state to another are represented in the form of a tree. There is proposed an algorithm for decreasing the variants of schedules by comparing the states in the tree nodes at each step and excluding the branches of states that would knowingly lead to a non-optimal schedule. The problem statement including several locomotives of different types, the solution algorithm and its application to a particular case are presented. In the formulation of the task the criterion of optimality for comparing different schedules is the minimum completion time of transporting the necessary volume of cargo. The additional criterion is total operating time of all locomotives, which is used only in case of equality of the main criterion for several schedules.

Economic analysis and safety, and hence reliability and readiness, are the most important parameters in the operation of railway vehicles. The article presents a strategy for maintaining railway vehicles based on reliability indicators. The strategy was verified based on empirical research in a transport company.

Purpose. The introduction of private freight railway carrier companies in Ukraine corresponds to the European trend of demonopolization of railway transport and has a number of consequences, including the creation of a market pricing mechanism and the formation of prerequisites for improving the quality of services in railway transport. In order to ensure the economic development of the railway industry, an integrated approach is required, which includes reviewing and improving the tariff policy regarding the access of private regional railway carrier companies to the railway infrastructure of joint-stock company (JSC) «Ukrzaliznytsia» and providing non-discriminatory access to the railway infrastructure for other transportation participants. This will ensure equal conditions for competition and will contribute to the development of railway transport in Ukraine. Based on this, the purpose of this study is to achieve the effective functioning of a cargo delivery system for regional railway carrier companies when it is implemented on the Ukrainian railway network. To achieve this goal, a functional description of the specified system is used and its parameters are optimized. Methods. To formalize the system of cargo delivery by a regional railway carrier company, used methods of systems theory. The results. The research carried out made it possible to formalize the system of cargo delivery through a regional railway carrier company. In the process of formulating the functional description of the system, various factors affecting the carrier company's costs were taken into account. When analyzing these factors, it was found that the key parameters of the system that have a significant impact on the costs and cost of transporting goods are the serial number of the cargo delivery route, the number of stops on the route, the duration of train downtime at the railway stations of the carrier company's branches while waiting for shunting operations to be performed (attaching groups of wagons). The goal of optimizing these parameters is to increase the efficiency of the system and reduce the cost of transporting goods for individual clients. Practical significance. Subject to the adoption in Ukraine of an appropriate legislative framework that will regulate access to the railway infrastructure of JSC «Ukrzaliznytsia» for private carriers, the implementation of the proposed system will have such positive consequences as increasing the level of competition in the transport market in Ukraine, improving the quality and reliability of transportation and growth Country's GDP. Setting the optimal balance between route numbers, the number of stops and the duration of train downtime will ensure optimal use of the carrier company's resources and reduce the cost of transporting goods. This will help improve the quality of service and meet customer needs.

The railway is an important sector of the economy of Georgia. Despite its small share in the gross domestic product of the country, its role in the socio-economic development of the country is large. "Georgian Railway" is the only railway operator in Georgia. The company mainly provides services related to cargo transportation and transports various types of cargo from Central Asia to the Black Sea. The Georgian Railways also provides passenger transport. The company has a vertically integrated business model, owning and managing tracks, stations, terminals, other railway infrastructure and rolling stock covering the entire railway system across Georgia. The main railway network of "Georgian Railways", together with the railway of Azerbaijan, forms the Caucasus Railway Corridor, which is a key segment of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor (TRACECA). The main railway network of "Georgian Railways" is the shortest way connecting the Caspian Sea region and Central Asia with the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The mentioned location uniquely contributes to the positioning of Georgian Railways in the trade system of Europe, the Caspian Sea region and Central Asia. Therefore, its economic growth and sustainable development largely depends on the effective use of the potential of a transit country. In this regard, it is necessary for the railways to be able to offer profitable conditions to customers and their practical implementation, for which it is necessary to create a powerful modern infrastructure, which ensures guaranteed protection of cargoes, their fast transportation and reduction of transport costs. Priority is given to scientific and technological directions, which should expand the use of advanced inventions in railway transport and increase the competitiveness of Georgian transport services in the market. Resumen
Crucial logistical and export challenges, faced by agricultural producers in Ukraine, are described. Drawing on data from the Kernel company, one of the leading players in the agribusiness sector, internal strategies to overcome export barriers are analyzed. Crucial sources of financial resources mobilized by the company are identified. Additionally, an analysis of the company’s transportation assets is conducted. Furthermore, an investment project for the modernization of key assets, specifically railway transportation, is outlined. This involves collaboration with European countries, whereby Ukrainian grain delivery costs to European ports are offset. The economic feasibility of the project is substantiated through the discounted cash flow method.

This study aimed to identify the critical factors and items affecting the productivity of sustainable human resources in a Railway Operation Company based on the perceptions of employees and managers in the Human Resources Department. The study was motivated by research which was applied in terms of the objectives of the study and a descriptive survey was employed as the method. The statistical population of the current study consisted of all employees and managers of the Human Resources Department of the company. Random sampling was employed to collect data and the sample size was 191 people according to Morgan’s Table. Methods including the correlation coefficient, multivariate regression, and factor analysis were employed for data analysis. The findings highlight the main factors and items affecting labor productivity in the Urban and Suburban Railway Operation Company as perceived by the Human Resources Department, which were mainly related to human resources management and could be attributed to motivation and requirements for their effective contribution to the improvement of public welfare. Organizational Attitude and Culture, Leadership Style, and Bonus and Ergonomics were extracted as factors affecting productivity or as independent variables. This study is the first study that has aimed to discuss the perceptions of the Human Resources Department active in a company. As such, the study highlights the standpoint of the main decision makers in the Urban and Suburban Railway Operation Company with regard to labour productivity in the urban and suburban sector.

Refinancing is an activity that can generate profits for the recipient. Carrying out refinancing can be a challenge for a company so it will make efforts well and optimally so that the refinancing is successful. This research uses a case study method by collecting data through interviews and documentation studies related to refinancing by PT Celebes Railway Indonesia (CRI). The aim of this research is to describe the refinancing carried out by PT CRI with the "Makassar-Parepare Railway" project which uses the Availability Payment (AP) scheme. PT Celebes Railway Indonesia has carried out refinancing after the completion of the construction period, the operations and maintenance processes have also been carried out and the first Availability Payment has been absorbed in December 2022. Refinancing is carried out based on stages developed by PT CRI itself so that profits are obtained for the Company. PT CRI is the pioneer of the first refinancing of railway infrastructure in Indonesia. It is hoped that the success of the refinancing carried out by PT CRI can be used as a benchmark and can be used as a guide for future researchers in carrying out refinancing.

This abstract examines the tariff policy of freight transportation in the context of railway transformation in Uzbekistan. Given the changes taking place in the country's railway sector, particular attention is given to analyzing and assessing the impact of transformation on freight tariffs and transportation conditions. The study explores factors influencing tariff formation, such as changes in railway company structure, infrastructure modernization, reforms in government policy, and private investment attraction. The importance of establishing optimal tariffs and creating competitive conditions for freight transportation in times of transformation is emphasized, and recommendations are provided for improving the tariff policy considering the changes in Uzbekistan's railway sector. This study aims to provide useful information and practical recommendations for railway companies, government authorities, and stakeholders to facilitate the development of an effective tariff policy and contribute to the sustainable development of railway transportation in Uzbekistan.

Sustainable transport is a critical and complex issue that the world is currently facing. Managers of railway companies in particular face significant challenges in achieving self-sustainable management of their assets. This paper introduces a new causal loop and explores the interaction among company dimensions—including financial, social, and environmental aspects—in order to assess the financially sustainable management of Raja Corporation, one of the largest railway companies in Iran. Our main contribution is the proposed system dynamics (SD) model, which can aid in policy analysis for Raja, a company that operates multiple routes within the country. The presented model compares different strategies employed by Raja using economic, social, and environmental indicators to evaluate the financial sustainability of the company. Our findings demonstrate that government subsidies may boost the company’s revenue, but they also hinder the rate of profits. Additionally, we highlight the impact of inflation on the company’s financial sustainability, showing that higher ticket prices may have a considerable impact on profits. The proposed approach of using the SD model may help specialists evaluate the sustainability management of transport sector corporations and significantly enhance their performance. This study highlights the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to assess the financial sustainability of railway companies, considering the interdependencies among various dimensions of each company. The findings of this study may have implications for policymakers, managers, and researchers in the transport sector, especially those who are interested in sustainable management practices.

The creation, formation and activities of the Inter-Regional Public Organization the "Railroad Amateurs’ Society" (VOLZD) are considered. The Society has become a notable unit for the preservation and promotion of the historical heritage of our country's railways. At the conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the VOLZD, the great role of the Company was noted, congratulations were made by the head of the JSC "Russian Railways" O.V. Belozerov and the chief engineer of the company S.A. Kobzev. The main goals and objectives of VOLZD are shown: preservation and promotion of the historical heritage of railway transport, creation of a positive image of railways in the eyes of the general public, satisfaction of cognitive interest in the railway, education and vocational guidance, development of railway modeling, reference and information activities. The algorithm of the Society's work is presented. It was noted that VOLZD is an active partner of Russian Railways in the field of popularization of the past and present of the industry, propagandizes the historical activities of Russian Railways in Russia and abroad. The Society advises the company, its branches, and other organizations in the field of the history of railways (while maintaining retro technology, preparing mass events and orders in the field of the history of railways, filming, etc.).

Railway ballast tamping operations is an important work in the line maintenance and repair operations, the selection of tamping parameter is usually dependent on field trials and practical experience, for the mechanical properties of railway ballast is difficult to measure and describe. This paper creates discrete element analysis model of railway ballast using the discrete element method, the numerical simulations are carried out to study the mechanical properties of railway ballast during tamping process. We focus on the influence of amplitude during tamping process; an optimal amplitude of the simulation analysis is obtained and compared with the recommended amplitude of Plasser & Theurer Company, it is found that the two amplitudes accord. This result verifies the correct validity of the discrete element analysis model of railway ballast during tamping process.
