This study, taken into effect in 2014 and 2015, conducted the investigation of the schooling and literacy processes of Bolivian immigrant children enrolled in schools in the city of Guarulhos, which is situated in the great region of São Paulo, focusing on the pedagogic work accomplished with non Portuguese-speaking children. First of all, it was necessary the inventory and analysis of the federal and state educational legislation concerning immigration. Secondly, the empirical research was implemented in two public municipal schools, in two distinct regions, Pimentas and Bonsucesso, locations with great concentration of Bolivian immigrant students enrolled in the public schools. Three different instruments of data collection were used: interviews and observation of school activities and verification of school handbooks and students’ notebooks. Two school administrators and six literacy teachers were interviewed in each school. With the first interviewees, the school context was characterized; the interviews with the teachers were divided into three categories: what they say, what they do, and how they do it to ensure the immigrant children’s literacy in their classrooms. With the observations, it was possible to build “scenes” of the school daily routine that were transcribed and analyzed. The verification of the school handbooks helped to verify the children’s family city of origin and nationality. The verification of the students’ notebooks allowed us to verify their development in the activities proposed by the teachers. The data analysis was accomplished by means of Pierre Bourdieu’s and Gimeno Sacristán’s contributions. The outcomes allowed us to understand the gap between the public educational politics and the schools concerning the schooling and literacy processes of non Portuguese-speaking immigrants

Texto completoThis dissertation incorporates and builds upon, in a descriptive mode, the results of comparative studies between Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese conducted from different theoretical references, all of which focus on how languages work. Our research is based on specific studies about each of these two languages, usually with a Generative and/or Functionalist basis, but which we will consider only in their descriptive aspect, without binding our research to any of these explanatory models. In order to contextualize the situation of contact and to define methodologies and procedures, we will use a set of references from sociolinguistic studies. Our research presents a comparative study of the written textual productions of Bolivian students and first-generation descendants of Bolivians and of Brazilian students without any Hispanic anscestry. We work with two samples: the first one, provisional, had the participation of 40 informants who produced 40 texts in total. The second one, definitive, had 100 informants who produced 200 texts in total. All the students come from São Paulo city public schools and are enrolled either in ensino fundamental II or ensino médio. The question asked during research has sought to answer this inquiry: around which constructions found in variation in Brazilian Portuguese can we find tendencies which differentiate, in writing, Bolivian students or children of Bolivian immigrants from Brazilian students who have no contact with the Spanish language at their homes? In the analyses we have conducted we have deemed significant the pronominal constructions in which the clitics are neither direct nor indirect objects. Among these constructions, two modalities have presented disparities between the two groups: (i) the quantitative difference in the occurrence of the clitic se; and (ii) the difference of the frequency of the occurrences for 4 verbs in their pronominal uses, lembrar-se, perder-se, recordar-se and sentir-se. We have also questioned the use of the verbs ter and haver with existential value. However, we have found no significant differences in the textual productions of either group.

Texto completoIn public schools of São Paulo is a growing number of foreign students, notably Bolivia, due to recent migratory waves. This phenomenon has changed the conformation of the classrooms, making the needed teachers adapt to bilingualism and intercultural character of the new classroom. This research, aiming to assist the work of teachers, analyzes the textual production of Brazilian and Bolivian, classes of 8th graders of elementary school of the School Infante Dom Henrique, in order to point out and describe linguistic and cultural aspects that may portray the specificities of forming groups such mixed classes. Linguistically, we identified the phonetic-phonological aspects that affect the writing of Portuguese students, making a minimal grammar (VAZQUEZ, 1999) revealed that, by identifying inadequacies and adjustments, the written language domain level. Culturally, based on the identification of the discursive ethos (MAINGUENEAU, 2008), detected in written productions on theme involving violence and friendship, it was found as students of both groups, Brazilian and Bolivian, build self-image - which revealed its values and world view, exposing the meaning of their behavior. Thus, associated, the linguistic and cultural analysis sought to guide the actions of the teacher in mixed classrooms.

In the turn from the 20th century to the 21st one the immigrant entrance issue in Brazil gained prominence again. At the city of São Paulo stands out the Bolivian Immigration, calling back to the 1950s, with the arrival of the Bolivians participants of the Brazil-Bolivia Cultural Interchange Program. The foreign presence raise happens in all social spaces and, obviously, it¿s not different in the school environment. According to data from the São Paulo¿s Secretary of Education, in 2016 there were almost 3700 foreign students registered in the network, about 2358 being Bolivians. Keeping this in mind and facing the constant presence of Bolivian children in São Paulo¿s network, the objective of this research was analyze the relationship happening between them, their Brazilian colleagues and educators in the school space. In summary, we seek to comprehend how cultural interaction happens in the school environment by the presence of Bolivian students in the literacy cycle of a São Paulo public school. Having as fundaments the principles of intercultural education, in addition to issues of social theory related to otherness and to the process of identity construction. The used methodology was the ethnographic study with participating observation. The school activities of seven classes from 1st to 3rd years that possess Bolivian students in their student body were observed and accompanied. These were selected two groups (1st and 2nd years) and proposed activities of reading, conversation circle and preparation of illustrations in order to observe and understand how students understand the issue of diversity in the classroom. Interviews were also held with five teachers from the literacy cycle, an auxiliary class and one of the school¿s coordinators, located in the neighborhood of Mooca, east of the city of São Paulo. The data analysis has been made by social theory as it relates to diversity, intercultural and otherness and intercultural education. We conclude that it is essential that the school rethink its role to provide adequate socialization and learning of all students.

Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo - SEE
This work analyses the insertion of black immigrant students in a secondary school of the state educational system of São Paulo, in São Paulo city, SP, Brazil, among the years of 2014 and 2016. That choice is based on the professional position occupied by the researcher, who works for the same state education system specifically with its racial relations issues. The research aims to describe and evaluate the insertion of those students in the school routine, through identifying the relations among the black African immigrant students, the other students, the teachers, the school administrators and the school staff in general, as well as the relations among cultures in the school environment. To reach those aims, the researcher observed the classes, free times, entrance and leaving of students, how they arrange themselves in the workrooms, the activities realized during the class times and the teacher’s and administrator’s meetings and activities. The purpose was to note in all those situations the presence or absence of actions of discrimination and/or prejudice and of conflicts and barriers directed to the black immigrant students in the scholar environment and routine. It was also analyzed the following documental fonts: documentation from the Centre of Register of the Education Secretary of the State of São Paulo, the document of the pedagogical plan of the school and the laws from union, state and municipal spheres relevant to the insertion of immigrant students and to the racial relations in school. The main authors adopted as theoretical support for this work are the following: Dominique Julia and António V. Frago, for the analysis of the scholar culture; Jacques A. Sayad, Stuart Hall e Pierre Bourdieu, for immigration; Valter Silvério, Nilma L. Gomes e Kabengele Munanga, for racism and racial prejudice. The analysis has shown that the insertion of the black African immigrant students in the secondary school of the state educational system of São Paulo is limited to the right of being registered, that there is no pedagogical politics to assure the proper appreciation of the cultures of immigrants and that the school environment is permeated by discrimination, prejudice and racism, which favors conflictive relations among black immigrant students, non-immigrant students, teachers and school staf

This work aims to use a sociological perspective to analyze the schooling of students coming from the lower classes of a needy community in the western part of the city of São Paulo who are children of immigrant (Bolivians) and migrant (northeastern) families. More specifically, it intends to analyze how the teachers understand the family involvement in the school performance of these students. It checks the expectations that teachers have regarding family participation in the children's educational process and whether these are in line with results of previous studies. It also analyzes the conditions of the families to meet these demands and the actions of teachers to circumvent the family's potential inability to fulfill their desires. It works on the assumption that teachers have an impossible idea that families need to meet in their children's educational process and do not take this difficulty into consideration in their pedagogical work, thus they do not consider the culture and history of immigrant/migrant student. The theoretical framework employs the concepts of Primary and Secondary Educational Action and the Primary and Secondary Educational Work of Bourdieu and Passeron (2013). It uses the concepts of Sayad (2010) regarding the deletion of the immigrant / migrant's identity by forgetting their history in the process of adapting to the new culture and regarding the need for an analysis of the immigration process that goes beyond the economic aspects and involves cultural and political ones as well. To collect data, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews used with the lower class families coming from the northeast and Bolivia and with the teachers were prepared

Abstract: Research recovers the memory and history of life of Sao Paulo Saihou Jogakuin boarding school's ex-students, the importance of this institution on the development of their female identity. Texto completoWas formulated main objective of the study: the analysis of acculturation: difficulty in teaching and learning process of immigrants in Portugal. It was placed as guiding questions: the variables related to acculturation interfere with the immigrant student teaching-learning process? What are the difficulties involved in acculturation in immigrant student with a view to improvement strategy? Although the results are not exhausted in this discussion from this study aims to contribute subsidies to the (re) formulation of improvement strategies in the teaching-learning process immigrant students at the college level. The methodology is quantitative and qualitative nature, carried out by the researcher through direct research and participant observation was developed with migrants in order to address the learning difficulties of the immigrant student, and reflect on the concepts of developmental psychology, human development and educational psychology. Sought to discuss issues related to social and cultural differences (acculturation) among others that interfere with teaching and learning. It was concluded that the variables related to acculturation interfere in the teaching-learning process of the immigrant student, and the main difficulty refers to the linguistic competence that is an integral part of the culture and is closely linked to social integration and cultural conflict. It was observed that the difficulties encountered in the acculturation of the immigrant student with a view to the improvement strategy stem from material, social and intrinsic causes. In this case, there should be more attention on the part of the educators, more attention on the part of the institutions to the students' problems, greater inclusion, less discrimination and more multicultural teaching.

Texto completoThis work consists of research on the educational (in)success of pupils of immigrant descent, specifically of pupils of Cape Verdean origin. The aim of the study was to understand the relational dynamics (student, teacher, family) that lead these students to school failure. We decided to use a qualitative methodology using a qualitative instrument. The school failure of students of immigrant descent has been documented in recent decades in Portugal. During our research, we found several factors that may be involved in the causes of school failure, and we focused on the relational dimension. As part of this study, we had the opportunity to conduct interviews with student boys, class leaders and parents. The 3rd cycle of basic education is considered a decisive cycle because young people start to be more responsible and autonomous in their choices. The main conclusions we reached were that there is a certain distance between the school community and the family. There is a lack of intensive educational monitoring by parents. There is also a certain lack of motivation on the part of the students in their studies.
